00:10:01games for the first time in this
00:10:03postseason they also haven't lost
00:10:06back to back games in this
00:10:08postseason Garrett Rankin Kyle
00:10:10Raymond are the referees Devin
00:10:12Berg and Ryan Daisy the linesmen
00:10:15in Game 3 is underway in Montreal
00:10:18the first ball Owen power out on
00:10:20defense with Bo Byron to start the
00:10:23only change on either lineup
00:10:25tonight is on the fourth line for
00:10:28Buffalo Sam Carrick enters the
00:10:31series for the first time as he
00:10:33has recovered from a left arm
00:10:35injury suffered late in the
00:10:37regular season he's in for Tyson
00:10:38Kozak other than that it's the same
00:10:42skaters and same goaltenders as
00:10:45we've seen in games one and two
00:10:47in on the four check Taich
00:10:49Thompson back to the line Rasmus
00:10:51Dallin spun it around room behind
00:10:55the net and now into the corner
00:10:57Peyton Cripps tried to move it to
00:10:59the front and was stopped but the
00:11:02Canadians couldn't clear Dallin
00:11:04rebound score Taich Thompson took
00:11:07it off the back wall 53 seconds
00:11:11in Buffalo leads one to nothing in
00:11:15game one the Sabres got off to a
00:11:17quick start a goal in the first
00:11:19five minutes game two it was the
00:11:20Canadiens with two goals in the
00:11:22first five minutes now it's the
00:11:24Sabres taking the air out early
00:11:26here Krebs does a nice job to
00:11:28control the puck and as he heads to
00:11:30the bench on a change Rasmus
00:11:32Dallin Schaub will go wide in the
00:11:34net it's a fortunate bounce and
00:11:36for the first time since game one
00:11:38against the Sabres Taich Thompson
00:11:40has scored he said game two was
00:11:42an absolute disaster for him game
00:11:45three couldn't start out any
00:11:46better first goal and 21 shots on
00:11:51goal for Thompson his third of the
00:11:53playoffs the first two came in
00:11:55that come from behind went against
00:11:57Boston in game one in Buffalo when
00:11:59they rallied from a two nothing
00:12:01deficit in the final eight
00:12:03minutes he scored the two goals
00:12:05that tied it into and has done
00:12:07very little since played out by
00:12:11Alex Newhook we have had quick
00:12:15scoring in all three games of this
00:12:17series Newhook delivered a check
00:12:24out of the crowd here's Matias
00:12:27Samuelson that missed the far post
00:12:30now the line Connor Timmons good
00:12:32pass and a shot right on by
00:12:35Samuelson retrieved in the corner
00:12:38by Jack Quinn Ryan McLeod
00:12:39centered and I got played away to
00:12:41Ivan Demedon and now Alex Texier
00:12:44sidestepped the check from big Logan
00:12:47Stanley Texier has Anderson at the
00:12:50top of the circle and a stop by
00:12:52Lyon man that was a good stop
00:12:54Phil Deneau was right in the
00:12:56crease centering pass and Deneau
00:12:58fanned on it and now it's the
00:13:00Sabres trying to clear Stanley
00:13:03couldn't reach it even with his
00:13:04long reach in game one the first
00:13:11goal for Buffalo came at 431 in game
00:13:14two Newhook scored the first goal of
00:13:17the game for Montreal at a minute
00:13:19and 36 seconds and now tonight game
00:13:22three 53 seconds in Thompson from
00:13:28Darlene you're only going to go as
00:13:30far sometimes as your big boys are
00:13:32going to get you the Sabres have
00:13:33gotten to this point without much
00:13:35from Thompson in the first game
00:13:39against Boston he got two goals in
00:13:40the third period here he takes the
00:13:42fortunate bounce this point shot
00:13:44deflects off of Alex Carrier here
00:13:46Dobish can't react to it because
00:13:49it's moved a couple of feet to his
00:13:51right Matt Tate Thompson dreams
00:13:53about that that puck pops out on
00:13:54the off the end boards and into the
00:13:56empty net the 1-0 Sabres lead
00:13:58don't forget the Sabres won three
00:14:00times in the first round on the
00:14:02road in Boston they're a very good
00:14:04road team and they've got to jump
00:14:05here in game three in Montreal
00:14:07they're a good road team all
00:14:09regular season as well 24 road wins
00:14:12second behind only Colorado Sam
00:14:15Carrick centered it Dobish couldn't
00:14:17smother with the glove and now
00:14:20Jordan Greenway shoved into the
00:14:23boards by Arbor Jack guy Kirby
00:14:25Duck tied up his man along the wall
00:14:28that was Carrick and then Beck
00:14:30Allen Stein stepped right out in
00:14:32front Bowen Byron in deep Malen
00:14:38Stein and Caden Gouley Gouley out on
00:14:41the fence now with Jack guy Joe
00:14:46Valeno dumped it in playing in his
00:14:49third career playoff game in his
00:14:52first here in Montreal that's an
00:14:56icing call as Alex Tuck was well
00:14:59behind the red line let's welcome
00:15:00in Emily Kaplan thanks Sean Sam
00:15:03Carrick was injured March 31st in a
00:15:05fight with Anders Lee one of the many
00:15:07reasons he endeared himself to
00:15:08Sabres fans early but it was
00:15:10described as a freak injury didn't
00:15:12break a bone didn't hurt his
00:15:14shoulder but not a typical injury
00:15:16hockey players have so they had no
00:15:17idea when he was going to come
00:15:18back this is right before the six
00:15:20week mark but guys there was a fear
00:15:22it was going to be a lot longer than
00:15:24that Montreal wins the faceoff that's
00:15:28been a recurring theme yeah they're
00:15:30happy to have him back right out in
00:15:33front what a stop by Lyon as Suzuki
00:15:36was all alone and Lyon flashed out
00:15:39the right leg Suzuki was all by
00:15:42himself the Sabres got chasing up the
00:15:45boards he had all the front of the
00:15:47net to himself and just couldn't get
00:15:49it up over top of Lyon and a big stop
00:15:52by Lyon the 33 year old Minnesota
00:15:55native his first year here in
00:15:57Buffalo just his 10th career
00:15:59playoff start at age 33 then a
00:16:02backup for much of his career and
00:16:05he's taken over the net here in
00:16:07the playoffs for coach Lindy Ruff
00:16:08Mike Matheson dumps and goes
00:16:11after it himself he puts a hit in
00:16:13Erasmus Darlene gets picked up by
00:16:16Caulfield back near the line Demand
00:16:18Dov he takes a check from Norris
00:16:20there's a broken stick that caused a
00:16:23problem Demandoff tried to walk in
00:16:25with three Sabres right on him then
00:16:27he fanned on a backhand pass and it's
00:16:30lofted out by Norris hoping that
00:16:33Josh Doan could run it down he did
00:16:35not now it's Benson flying in on the
00:16:38four check on Noah Dobson who moved
00:16:40it quickly to Lane Hudson and out to
00:16:42the neutral zone for Demandoff shoved
00:16:44by Stanley the entry by Benson and
00:16:48he's denied just inside the line and
00:16:51it's played back by Evans that
00:16:56quick tally by Buffalo has taken a
00:16:59little bit of the starch out of the
00:17:01crowd when they lost game six there
00:17:05was no guarantee of course it would
00:17:06be a another home game this year
00:17:08this feels like a bit of the get of a
00:17:10gift for the Canadians and it started
00:17:13out off the wrong foot with the early
00:17:16goal by Taige Thompson here's Alex
00:17:18Lyon's first great stop of the night
00:17:21this point shot will deflect over to
00:17:23Suzuki Thompson will leave Suzuki
00:17:26they're chasing the puck at this point
00:17:30Thompson's got to recognize his guy
00:17:32oh yeah that's him right there it's
00:17:34Suzuki the diving poke check by Lyon
00:17:36Suzuki just doesn't lift it over the
00:17:39pad of Lyon who's now in desperation
00:17:41mode bit of a fortunate stop off a
00:17:43defensive zone leak by Buffalo
00:17:46Suzuki trying to extend his goal
00:17:49streak to four games scored an
00:17:51empty netter in game two to finish
00:17:54off that five to one win here's
00:17:57Jack Quinn pestered from behind by
00:18:00Hudson and now Deneau moved it out
00:18:03but turned it over at center ice to
00:18:05Logan Stanley and it deflects off to
00:18:08no one out of the rink and the
00:18:10faceoff will come outside the line
00:18:12Lindy Ruff in his second tour of
00:18:16duty as head coach of the Buffalo
00:18:17Sabres winning his coach in
00:18:19franchise history and fourth
00:18:21winningest all time by total wins
00:18:23including regular season and
00:18:26playoffs behind only Bowman
00:18:28Quenville and Maurice what he likes a
00:18:31lot about his Sabres team this young
00:18:33team is that they've learned to
00:18:34balance the risk in their game with
00:18:36when they have to defend and that's
00:18:38certainly been a growing point for
00:18:39the Sabres where they had all this
00:18:41offensive talent and they got a
00:18:43little loose when they didn't have
00:18:44the puck they've tightened that up
00:18:46considerably to the point that
00:18:48they're in this second round of the
00:18:52playoffs Zach Bolduc and now Ghouli
00:18:56that's off the stick of Malenstein
00:18:58off the back wall Valeno trying to
00:19:00dig it free and now Doc back to the
00:19:03line Jack I now Valeno comes to
00:19:07Bolduc and back to Ghouli quickly
00:19:09moved to Jack I stopped by Lion a
00:19:12lot of bodies out in front but
00:19:14Montreal couldn't come up with a
00:19:16rebound now Owen power up the
00:19:19middle to Greenway to the line
00:19:22played in by Malenstein and that
00:19:24fourth line will go off for
00:19:26Buffalo each fourth line has had a
00:19:28really good first shift the Buffalo
00:19:30group Greenway Carrick and
00:19:32Malenstein on their first shift
00:19:35the Valeno line just on that last
00:19:37shift where they hemmed the Sabres
00:19:38in the lean lost the puck for a
00:19:41moment now he's double-teamed that
00:19:43pops into the slot one handed down
00:19:45low and another big stop by Lyon
00:19:47on Caulfield well Thompson's ended
00:19:51his drought and now Caulfield
00:19:53with a chance and Lyon tested early
00:19:56and he's stopped everything the
00:19:58Canadians have thrown at him a
00:20:01good sign for Montreal is that
00:20:02they've had two good chances and
00:20:04it's been their big boys Suzuki and
00:20:07now Caulfield Caulfield has shot the
00:20:09puck under two times a game in the
00:20:12playoffs in the regular season way
00:20:14over three times a game he's a
00:20:16trigger man he's got to get the
00:20:18puck and shoot it but what I liked
00:20:19about that shot is he's in between
00:20:21the dots that's the danger spot
00:20:23right now he's faded away outside
00:20:25the dots and become a less
00:20:27dangerous player it was
00:20:29interesting Ray talking with Jeff
00:20:30Gordon the president hockey operations
00:20:32for the Canadians more than a
00:20:34second Caulfield shot blocked by
00:20:36Samuelson and now Lane Hudson
00:20:39down low another great chance for
00:20:42Suzuki and Lyon held the post and
00:20:45it was played out by Thompson now
00:20:49the 20 year old Benson will turn 21
00:20:51Tuesday night when they play game
00:20:53four here Benson's been as good as
00:20:56anybody in this series centering
00:20:59pass out in front and Benson
00:21:02couldn't whack it home off a feed
00:21:04from Norris who retrieved the
00:21:06bouncing puck tried to flip it down
00:21:08low that was blocked up by Suzuki
00:21:10got knocked down there'll be a
00:21:12Buffalo penalty here Suzuki taken
00:21:15down in the neutral zone and
00:21:17and Montreal is going to get the
00:21:19first power play of game three
00:21:33Buffalo penalty number nine two
00:21:35minutes interference with Josh
00:21:38Norris going to the box for
00:21:40interference this tackle on Nick
00:21:42Suzuki in the middle of the ice the
00:21:44Habs will try to tie this game up
00:21:46Tate Thompson's third of the playoffs
00:21:48his first since game one against
00:21:50Boston in the first round gives
00:21:52Buffalo the early 1-0 lead
00:21:581-0 lead for Buffalo here at the
00:22:01Bell Centre in downtown Montreal
00:22:02the Habs will get the game's first
00:22:05power play with Josh Norris in the
00:22:06box Cole Caulfield is their trigger
00:22:09man 51 goals in the regular season
00:22:11a tremendous one-timer but watch
00:22:14him sliding on the back door down
00:22:16towards the post they work that
00:22:18goal line play as well as anybody
00:22:21they're just six for 33 in the
00:22:24playoffs that's 18.2 percent just
00:22:28one for 13 at home in the series
00:22:31against Tampa Bay puck went out of
00:22:35the rink they'll start again this
00:22:36power play is brought to us by Pepsi
00:22:41Marty St. Louis was a tremendous
00:22:43power play player he's got the
00:22:45luxury of this fabulous quarterback
00:22:47in Lane Hudson when he goes across
00:22:50the blue line he's so quick and has
00:22:52such great vision the plays open up
00:22:55whether it's Caulfield on his left
00:22:57Slavkowski or on his right but he
00:23:01always has his head up he's such a
00:23:03creative player on the blue line
00:23:05Buffalo won the draw through the
00:23:08first two games Montreal's won nearly
00:23:1160 percent of the face-offs it's
00:23:13been a problem all year for Buffalo
00:23:15Hudson got it off to Caulfield
00:23:19who dropped it for Suzuki
00:23:21dangerous pass but it connected
00:23:23and then Demidoff tried to hit
00:23:25Caulfield and hopped past him
00:23:27Suzuki trying to shed Samuelson
00:23:31Slavkowski there to help Demidoff
00:23:34gave it back to Slavkowski Demidoff
00:23:37centers one and Suzuki couldn't
00:23:40handle it in the low slot he had
00:23:41some room go best shout
00:23:44aggressively to play it as he is
00:23:46want to do Suzuki played it in
00:23:48deep down to a minute and five on
00:23:51the penalty to Norris Buffalo
00:23:55penalty killings been very good
00:23:56lately they've killed 15 of the
00:23:59last 16 given up only one power
00:24:02play goal over the last six games
00:24:04fewest ever allowed by Buffalo in
00:24:06that span in the playoffs new
00:24:08hook stopped by Lyon who's back on
00:24:12form after he didn't have his best
00:24:15night in game two Lyon won ten
00:24:20straight games on the road in the
00:24:22regular season he's won three
00:24:23straight in the playoffs all three
00:24:25in Boston and Montreal is offside
00:24:29as they tried the entry 30 seconds to
00:24:32go on the Montreal power play we
00:24:34talked a little bit earlier about
00:24:36Lane Hudson look at him drop three
00:24:37savers to one side of the ice and
00:24:40new hooks wide open he is so nimble
00:24:43that when he gets across the line
00:24:44everybody has to focus on him
00:24:46because he's creating space new
00:24:48hook who had two goals in game two
00:24:50beaten by Lyon here early in game
00:24:55three bold played it back to Dobson's
00:24:59not the first power play unit for
00:25:01Martin San Luis Texier now across the
00:25:07line new hook tried to center that
00:25:08got blocked and played out by
00:25:12Greenway after the block by Connor
00:25:13Timmons dumped in by Malenstein and
00:25:16and the excellent penalty killing
00:25:18continues for the Sabres who lead
00:25:20one to nothing on an early Tage
00:25:22Thompson goal bold Duke sent it
00:25:25through Darlene he's first there in
00:25:27the corner tied up now by Byram
00:25:30Deneau trying to help for Montreal
00:25:32he's walled off by Darlene played
00:25:35around by Anderson to Matheson who
00:25:38scored in game two ending a personal
00:25:4116 game goalless drought in the
00:25:43playoffs for the 32 year old
00:25:46veteran defenseman who grew up
00:25:47here in the Montreal area dreaming
00:25:50about playing for the Canadians
00:25:52cross ice it didn't connect with
00:25:54Thompson he's right on the tail of
00:25:56Thompson Matheson didn't get it
00:25:59out Darlene kept it in rebound free
00:26:02off the shot by Krebs and then a
00:26:04follow-up by Tuck turned aside by
00:26:07Dovish Matheson and the
00:26:11Tuck battle in the corner Krebs and
00:26:17Tuck and now Krebs again good work
00:26:20on the forecheck by the top line
00:26:22for Buffalo finally banked out by
00:26:24Montreal gathered by Anderson has
00:26:27Deneau out in front and he fanned
00:26:29on the pass great chances for
00:26:33Montreal they can't get anything
00:26:35past Lyon and that time it was a
00:26:38whiff by Deneau the Canadians
00:26:41to go first period right yeah
00:26:42sorry Sean Canadians feel like
00:26:44there's more room in the offensive
00:26:46zone certainly this series than there
00:26:48was against Tampa which was a
00:26:50smothering type defense by Tampa
00:26:52that the Canadians eat dog in game
00:26:54seven both teams talked about that
00:26:57they are highly skilled they like the
00:26:59up-and-down kind of game and both
00:27:03teams in round one play defensive
00:27:06oriented teams Tampa Bay and Boston
00:27:08where it was hard to find any space
00:27:10against the Lightning or the
00:27:12Bruins there been chances throughout
00:27:15this series there's more room than
00:27:17they had on either side in round one
00:27:22and they had to be able to find any
00:27:22shots are six to four for Montreal
00:27:26and an entanglement in front of the
00:27:27Buffalo bench new hook trying to get
00:27:32free from tone at one point he was
00:27:35wrestling with the entire third line
00:27:37of the Sabres Norris Benson and
00:27:40Doan they were all wrestling around
00:27:42with new hook and it'll be Doan and
00:27:44Newhook that will go to the box when
00:27:48we come back from the break it'll
00:27:49be a little four on four action
00:27:55it's Newhook and Doan get tied up
00:27:57now there's Norris there's Benson
00:27:59and at the end of it it's just
00:28:01Doan and Newhook it is the
00:28:04playoffs on ESPN presented by
00:28:08Geico it feels good to have a
00:28:10winning team it feels good to Geico
00:28:17home twenty seven shots in game two
00:28:20for Alex Lyon you see him doing a
00:28:22little skate repair at the Sabres
00:28:24bench he's faced six shots already
00:28:26in this game and they've been
00:28:28difficult ones Nick Suzuki's all by
00:28:30himself he can't lift it through
00:28:33traffic Lyon's had to battle and
00:28:35fight and he's even stopped Cole
00:28:36Caulfield in tight Newhook may be
00:28:39the best chance on the Canadian
00:28:41power play the skate repair involved
00:28:44a new blade you couldn't do that
00:28:46that's not that long ago you would
00:28:48have had to go get a new skater just
00:28:50figure it out for the rest of the
00:28:51period Lyon's got new steel he's
00:28:53ready to go and it's one nothing here
00:28:55Sabres on a four on four
00:28:59the Buffalo Newhook of Montreal each
00:29:02off a roughing at eleven forty seven
00:29:06trying to work down the wall Hudson
00:29:08got it to Caulfield not a good
00:29:10stick by Bowen Byram to take it
00:29:11away pestered by Caulfield now
00:29:15lean a nice spin away from
00:29:17Caulfield down to seven forty five
00:29:22to go first period one nothing Buffalo
00:29:24Tage Thompson the goal centering pass
00:29:27picked off and skated briskly the
00:29:30other way by Suzuki with help
00:29:31Suzuki room in the slot and another
00:29:34stop by Lyon and he's been sharp here
00:29:37as the Canadians have had maybe
00:29:41predictably at home the better of the
00:29:42chances early on and Lyon's turn them
00:29:46away and the Sabres hold this one
00:29:47nothing lead which is critical here on
00:29:49the road Montreal lost two of their
00:29:52three home games in round one
00:29:54against Tampa Bay including that game
00:29:57six that forced the deciding game
00:29:59seven down in Tampa to know a blast
00:30:03elected to go on the slap shot from
00:30:05the dot and Lyon stopped it there
00:30:09offside as tuck carried across it
00:30:11was Norris a bit too eager to his
00:30:14left now Phil Deneau is not here to
00:30:18score goals Deneau's a checker a
00:30:20tremendous face off guy Lyon knows who
00:30:23the shooter is so watch how
00:30:24aggressively he pushes out he's way
00:30:27out top of the blue paint he
00:30:29probably plays that different against
00:30:31a different player but Deneau's
00:30:33slapper catches him high on the
00:30:35shoulder a really strong positional
00:30:37save for Lyon man Deneau has done a
00:30:39tremendous job since he's come from
00:30:42LA they traded a second round pick
00:30:43for him the Canadians were looking for
00:30:46some stability and a defensive
00:30:48conscience and they got it in in
00:30:50Phil Deneau good face off man as
00:30:53well still four on four centering
00:30:56pass another great chance for Suzuki
00:30:59set up by Demidoff Alex Lyon
00:31:06brilliant here in the first thirteen
00:31:09and a half minutes Matheson carries
00:31:12across as Suzuki trailer Suzuki
00:31:15might say let's someone else try
00:31:17carry a hard off the back wall for
00:31:20Suzuki Matheson bothered at the
00:31:24line by Norris who forced it out
00:31:26then Benson was on a take away
00:31:30Anderson's onside Suzuki still
00:31:32out there in the four on four
00:31:35which has now expired and gone to
00:31:37five on five Hudson pinched in
00:31:43Suzuki lobbed it toward the net
00:31:45he's intent to get off after a
00:31:47shift of more than a minute
00:31:52Montreal has won twenty three
00:31:54Stanley Cups but the last was in
00:32:041993 welcome back to Montreal midway
00:32:07through game two there was chaos
00:32:08in front of the Canadians bench
00:32:10which led to an incredible moment
00:32:12of sportsmanship Mike Matheson said
00:32:14he recognized that Zach Benson was
00:32:16in a dangerous position skates were
00:32:18flying everywhere and he said I need
00:32:20to protect him so he put his arm
00:32:22around his neck and in his ear he
00:32:24says don't move I got you guys I ran
00:32:27into Matheson's wife Emily before
00:32:29the game she was an elite hockey
00:32:31player herself she said I recognize
00:32:32that right away that was Mike going
00:32:34into dad mode it's a pretty special
00:32:39reaction for Matheson to make I mean
00:32:43Benson's been in the middle of it all
00:32:45in the playoffs for the Sabres and
00:32:48Matheson protecting them in that
00:32:50spot I I just don't know that a lot
00:32:51of players would realize that scene
00:32:54a classy veteran out of Boston
00:32:57College as Emily mentioned his
00:33:00wife Emily played in the Olympics
00:33:02the United States twenty eighteen
00:33:05clean faceoff win back to Jack
00:33:08guy but he couldn't get it
00:33:09through he backhands it in and
00:33:13it's Milano went on the four
00:33:15check his first career playoff
00:33:18action in the first two games in
00:33:20Buffalo he told us this morning
00:33:21Ray his heart was racing it took him
00:33:23a while from a cardio standpoint to
00:33:25settle into game one that's set to
00:33:28the net by Sam Carrick as he was
00:33:30going down he said his first shift
00:33:32he got steamrolled that he wasn't
00:33:34quite ready for it he hadn't played
00:33:35in about three weeks he said in
00:33:38both games in Buffalo he got smoked
00:33:41on his first shift was hoping to
00:33:43avoid that tonight and I think he
00:33:44has we didn't notice him getting
00:33:45a big flat centering pass and a point
00:33:48blank chance for Valeno denied by
00:33:51Lyon that Montreal's just got to
00:33:53continue with the four check they've
00:33:54had three or four goal mouth
00:33:57chances here in the first period
00:33:58Buffalo's got to tighten that up
00:34:02Hudson walks the line as he does so
00:34:04well Dobson's drive blocked by Greenway
00:34:08Dobson lost it off the stick of
00:34:10Malenstein who sent it the length of
00:34:12the ice and that will be an icing call
00:34:15against the Sabres their fourth of this
00:34:18first period ten shots for the
00:34:20Canadians as you see about seven of
00:34:23them are grade A variety Lyon probably
00:34:27could do a little more with that puck he
00:34:29he leaves it there Timmons doesn't have
00:34:31the inside lane to it really good
00:34:35forecheck Bull Duke shields away
00:34:37Timmons and look at the Sabres they're
00:34:40all expecting the breakout to start
00:34:41they're not in position defensively
00:34:44and Valeno is that close to his
00:34:46first playoff goal a couple of feet
00:34:48out in front Lyon had moved right
00:34:51to left and shielded the left post
00:34:54Valeno just two goals in the regular
00:34:56season in 61 games Demidov had a
00:34:59blocked by Stanley and the carom goes to
00:35:02the red line Hudson got there ahead of
00:35:03Quinn Dobson off the stick of McLeod
00:35:08off the back glass to Canadians on
00:35:11forecheck it leads to another chance
00:35:13finally they score Alex Newhook again
00:35:32alex Newhook had 13 goals in the regular season
00:35:35he's now got four in the playoffs this was seemingly
00:35:38inevitable the Sabres getting outworked again behind the net
00:35:43another grade A chance that's deflected off of Byram Lyon's able to make that but when the puck bounces out
00:35:52front and goes to Newhook Newhook's able to put this in the back
00:35:59into the net it bounces off of Timmons it goes into the net and the relentless Canadians pressure has finally
00:36:08resulted in the tying goal it's Alex Newhook it's 1-1 his third goal of the series and he had
00:36:25the game winning goal in game seven in the first round of the series
00:36:29one at Tampa Bay as you said Ray just felt like it was a matter of time
00:36:36Lyon had to make one glittering stop after another Newhook his fourth in the playoffs from Evans and Thompson
00:36:44set up off the aggressive four checking by the Habs
00:36:51nice move to get around Caulfield
00:36:54the Buffalo captain
00:36:57back at the line now and pressured up high by Caulfield and Darlene
00:37:02fans as he tried to set it in low and got there anyway
00:37:05carry a double team by Tuck and Darlene
00:37:08Tuck centers that one off a skate and pass Krebs
00:37:11Thompson passed up the wrister and then he couldn't handle it now he does off the return from Darlene
00:37:20tough angle shot hit a stick and wound up on the near wall
00:37:24Byron pinched in
00:37:26slap Kosky with Tuck to take away
00:37:29Thompson tried to center
00:37:31Karebs to Tuck he threw it right across the blue paint
00:37:35power to Krebs retreating through it on net awkwardly off the arm of Dobish
00:37:43he's looked a little shaky
00:37:46he hasn't been as busy as Lyon
00:37:48yeah he didn't see that shot almost the whole way
00:37:51I've got a great line on it and he just suddenly reacted with his blocker
00:37:55he pushed it straight up in the air still couldn't find it
00:38:01down to 240 to go in the first period
00:38:05tied at one
00:38:07going power
00:38:10out across the line played ahead by Benson
00:38:12Norris is on the move his shot stopped
00:38:15and the rebound stopped as well
00:38:18as Dobish kept his left skate against the post
00:38:21Anderson there no icing
00:38:27Ghouli deflected by Samuelson
00:38:29Deneau got it down low
00:38:30and Anderson couldn't poke it on net
00:38:33he's taken to the wall by Power
00:38:35and Power knocked down Anderson
00:38:38crowd wanted to call they won't get it
00:38:40good check by Deneau
00:38:42into Benson
00:38:44Bouncing puck now
00:38:47Anderson
00:38:49intercepted for a moment by Benson
00:38:51but taken back by Texiak
00:38:54Alex Texiak
00:38:56spun it around
00:38:57Anderson
00:38:58Ford Deneau
00:39:01Hudson
00:39:02works through some traffic
00:39:04and put a shot right on that's smothered
00:39:06by Alex Lyon
00:39:11the quest begins with the Buffalo Sabres
00:39:14believe in yourself believe in your teammate
00:39:16go behind the scenes with one team
00:39:18it's all about this hunger
00:39:19for each round of the Stanley Cup playoffs
00:39:22quest for the Stanley Cup only on NHL YouTube
00:39:28The Sabres finally get a couple of pucks towards Jakob Dobish
00:39:32it's the play has been pinned in their zone
00:39:34there's the one he doesn't see
00:39:35it's up in the air
00:39:36he has no idea where it is
00:39:38Norris takes a nice pass from Benson
00:39:41and Dobish makes this save
00:39:43watch Hudson here
00:39:44there's no room to go through there
00:39:46and if he loses it
00:39:47it's a breakaway the other way
00:39:49but he splits the two Sabres forwards
00:39:52and then creates this chance with all kinds of traffic around Lyon
00:39:56just a special player Hudson is on his feet
00:39:59he's a great player to watch
00:40:01he really brings people out of his feet
00:40:03alongside of the 80 points he had this year
00:40:08his second year he won the Calder Trophy
00:40:10as the Rookie of the Year last year
00:40:12in the NHL
00:40:15he's 22 years old
00:40:17Lane Hudson out of Boston University
00:40:19played a couple of the seasons there for Jay Pandolfo
00:40:22here's Kirby Dock sliding it in
00:40:25Lyon will take no chances
00:40:26with a couple of Montreal players flying in
00:40:31and now some pushing and shoving
00:40:34hold it winds up on the back
00:40:37of Lyon
00:40:40where's Mike Matheson when they need him
00:40:42that's a pretty good chokehold that Doc has got on somebody
00:40:45Lyons escaped the mess
00:40:52this is likely to happen
00:40:53throughout most of the games
00:40:56when you have your fourth lines on the ice
00:40:58they're a little bit more rambunctious
00:41:00maybe around the scrums
00:41:02this was a long play that
00:41:04that Lyon froze
00:41:07and as the referees speak about this
00:41:10Bull Duke is going to spray Lyon
00:41:12that never goes over well
00:41:14it doesn't go over well in November
00:41:16it's not going to go over well here
00:41:18as Timmons throws Bull Duke out of the way
00:41:22and then everybody's going to join
00:41:25and try and grab their pound of flesh out of this
00:41:27they have
00:41:29both officials
00:41:30the linesmen and they're all trying to discuss
00:41:34what the final total will be here
00:41:36here comes Kyle Raymond with the penalties
00:41:40right now he's telling Mike Matheson to beat it
00:41:42he wants to do his announcement
00:41:48I'm asking you to go away please
00:41:56there you heard it
00:41:58there's a power play for Buffalo 5-on-4
00:42:01so the initial is that spray on top of the goaltender
00:42:06that was the initial call that Raymond made immediately
00:42:09and then once the scrum starts
00:42:11Timmons and Bull Duke will go
00:42:16eventually
00:42:17oh there's Garrett Rank's going to explain to
00:42:19Marta St-Louis the initial penalty
00:42:23that's the penalty
00:42:24initially
00:42:25you can't really see the snow from the back
00:42:28but the snow creates that
00:42:31Montreal will need to get
00:42:32somebody in the penalty box to serve
00:42:36the second Bull Duke penalty
00:42:38now the next part of this story
00:42:41is the Sabres have revamped their power play
00:42:44they've broken up their first unit
00:42:46they want more attack
00:42:48they put Doan and Benson alongside of Thompson
00:42:52they want attack from the goal lines
00:42:55their entries which were a disaster in game 2
00:42:58look for them to be more simple
00:43:00rims around the board chips into the corner
00:43:03and then the new guys get to the puck
00:43:05they win the faceoff
00:43:07they've put Quinn on the front
00:43:08power play as well
00:43:10on the flank
00:43:12Benson tried to touch it out in front
00:43:14Matheson blocked it
00:43:16and it's cleared by Newhook
00:43:18Bolduc got 4 for roughing
00:43:21Timmons 2 at 1844
00:43:24Buffalo 2 for 8 in the series
00:43:26they got 2 power play goals in game 1
00:43:29but they went 2 for 3
00:43:30McLeod and Bowen
00:43:33Byron scored the goals
00:43:35they were 0 for 5 on the power play in game 2
00:43:40even that last entry
00:43:42they do the drop again
00:43:44which they seem to love
00:43:45I don't love it so much
00:43:46because Montreal stands right up at the blue line
00:43:49but as they enter into the zone
00:43:52Thompson's going to pass it to a forward standing still
00:43:56that's going to get snuffed out 9 times out of 10
00:43:58that puck has to go forward
00:44:00you have the momentum
00:44:01to go get it
00:44:033 for the last 54
00:44:06on the power play
00:44:07back to the beginning of April the end of the regular season
00:44:10and they've given up three short handed goals
00:44:14Darlene is up top now
00:44:16still Benson and Doan out in front of the net
00:44:19and they have to start over again
00:44:26with 20 seconds in the period
00:44:33Darlene with 12 in the period
00:44:35from the dot
00:44:36and a left pad save made by Dobish
00:44:39Darlene trying to play it in deeper
00:44:41it got blocked by Newhook
00:44:44Benson there in the final seconds
00:44:46of a very entertaining first period
00:44:48tick off
00:44:51Tage Thompson
00:44:54scored 53 seconds in
00:44:57as the officials are trying to separate the combatants here
00:45:00and it's getting more spirit in
00:45:02with punches being thrown
00:45:05down
00:45:06Darlene and Gulley
00:45:08Benson wants to throw a punch at Gulley as well
00:45:12and the officials
00:45:13pointing demonstratively
00:45:15we're going to have penalties here for sure
00:45:18and Buffalo's going to have one for sure
00:45:21I assume Gulley will end up with one as well
00:45:24but by the time they sort this out
00:45:27there'll be more players in the penalty box at the start of the second period
00:45:31Buffalo penalty number 26
00:45:33two minutes roughing
00:45:34that's all just Darlene
00:45:41Thompson scored 53 seconds in for Lindy Ruff and Newhook tied it at 15 31
00:45:521 1 after 1 the shots were 14 to 8 for the Canadians
00:45:57let's go back to the studio with PK Subban and Mark Messier
00:46:01here's John Bouchergras
00:46:03thank you Sean Expedia first intermission report
00:46:05happy Mother's Day
00:46:08Mary Donovan Bouchergras
00:46:10Maria Subban
00:46:12Mary Jean as well
00:46:13we got two Marys and a Maria
00:46:16raised by three great moms
00:46:17welcome inside boy you know Buffalo gets the early goal but Montreal was dominating
00:46:22and like Ray Ferraro said it was only a matter of time
00:46:24well there's only one other place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now is in the Montreal
00:46:28because that start of that game was electric
00:46:30I've been to a lot of games that crowd was insane
00:46:34is there is there a person in the building without a Montreal jersey on?
00:46:37no everybody had a jersey on
00:46:38not one person didn't have a jersey on to start
00:46:41when I was there it was covered in red
00:46:43unbelievable energy in that building
00:46:44give Buffalo credit I mean taking the air out of the building
00:46:4753 seconds in
00:46:49for a second
00:46:49yeah
00:46:50because they came right back
00:46:52it was amazing
00:46:52we'll break it all down with Dr. Subban
00:46:54he will give a full examination from head to toe
00:46:57yes
00:46:59that one would have gone wide
00:47:01it ends up in the net
00:47:02everyone loves PK
00:47:03and the Canadians finally get one past line
00:47:06it's all next
00:47:15welcome to the Expedia first intermission report
00:47:20Dr. Subban
00:47:21six-time Stanley Cup winner Mark Messier
00:47:23welcome inside
00:47:24Tage Thompson had two goals in game one against the Bruins
00:47:26but none in seven games since Mark Messier
00:47:29the lively end boards in Montreal got Buffalo on the board
00:47:31what happened in that goal?
00:47:33well there was a lot of things going on
00:47:34we're going to go to the board and show it to you
00:47:35but stay with me here because there's a lot that happened here
00:47:38can I come?
00:47:39yeah sure come on over here
00:47:40but go ahead and roll over here for a second
00:47:42just want to identify a few players here
00:47:44and why communication is so important in your own zone
00:47:48amongst each other
00:47:49so go ahead and run it here
00:47:50we got Buffalo with the puck
00:47:51a bunch of all is in good position right here
00:47:53stop it right there
00:47:54no problem here
00:47:55you can see Slavkowski
00:47:56now is down low on on Tage Thompson
00:47:58he switched now with Suzuki
00:48:00Suzuki theoretically is with the defenseman Samuelsson
00:48:04so now watch run it here a little bit more
00:48:06watch Suzuki
00:48:08staying with his man
00:48:08he's got his man identified
00:48:10he's going to Samuelsson
00:48:11he's going back to this point
00:48:12but look at Slavkowski
00:48:13he's now effectively
00:48:14stop it right there
00:48:15effectively Slavkowski
00:48:17has become the center iceman down low
00:48:20Suzuki now is on his
00:48:22on Samuelsson
00:48:23but watch Slavkowski coming down here
00:48:25they have to communicate between the two of them
00:48:28they don't
00:48:28Slavkowski gets puck watching
00:48:30loses his man
00:48:31and sure enough he gets a gratuitous rebound off the board
00:48:34to him but
00:48:36Slavkowski effectively became the center iceman down there
00:48:39he's got to get his eyes off the puck
00:48:41get body position box out
00:48:44Tage Thompson
00:48:44he didn't do it
00:48:45and I think a little more communication there between
00:48:49Suzuki and Slavkowski
00:48:50knowing that there had to be the switch
00:48:52and he had to be the center man down low
00:48:53it didn't happen but he got puck watching
00:48:55you got to get your eyes off the puck
00:48:57and you have to get position and box him out of there
00:48:59he didn't do it and sure enough you got a great bounce
00:49:02off the boards
00:49:03so a big goal for Tage Thompson
00:49:04he needed it
00:49:05Buffalo needs him
00:49:07but then after that it was all Montreal
00:49:09you felt the pressure and Alex Lyon
00:49:11this could have been 3-4-5-1 Montreal
00:49:13when you think about it to start a playoff game at the bell center
00:49:16no matter what series you're in at any game
00:49:1953 seconds in
00:49:20I mean this guy was unbelievable from the puck drop
00:49:23second and third saves
00:49:24this one on Suzuki probably the biggest one
00:49:26one timers rebounds
00:49:29second and thirds like I said
00:49:30Colt Caulfield in the slot
00:49:32this one's a big one here
00:49:33as well a new hook
00:49:35he was up to the task in every way
00:49:38and he didn't get rattled or shaken by the moment
00:49:41the moment didn't get too big for him
00:49:43he was square to the puck
00:49:44and this was the only goal that got to him here
00:49:46in my opinion so Dobson comes in
00:49:48shot here not much he can do on this
00:49:51we see this new hook gets in on the forecheck
00:49:53bing bing bang
00:49:54puck comes out to Evans
00:49:55and it goes off the defenseman into the net
00:49:57so Alex Lyon he does everything he can do there
00:50:00you see the rebound there and the tip
00:50:02but he did his job in the first period
00:50:04he had to weather the storm of Montreal
00:50:07Montreal was the more dominant team in that first period
00:50:09in the first 10 minutes especially
00:50:11so I thought Alex Lyon was up to the task
00:50:14and new hook was the only one to get one by
00:50:16he's a Stanley Cup champion with Colorado back in 2022
00:50:19and he leads Montreal this postseason with those four goals
00:50:232.9 million 25 year old kid from Newfoundland
00:50:26first round pick of Colorado man he's been a good player for them
00:50:29so good and you talk about a guy that coming
00:50:32you give providing depth scoring
00:50:33both top lines on each team are having problems right now
00:50:38scoring and you get depth scoring from a guy like that
00:50:40that's been amazing from Montreal
00:50:41and what they missed with him in the ankle injury is his speed
00:50:44he brings a ton of speed through the middle of the ice
00:50:47absolutely all right this is just game one of our double header tonight
00:50:49on Mother's Day evening
00:50:51game two boy the pressure
00:50:53look how it comes in on the waist
00:50:56that's tapered that's a custom fit you cannot get that off the rack
00:51:00double breasted
00:51:01you better lean up
00:51:02you better lean up PK if you want to wear double breasted
00:51:06lean up PK

00:52:27happy Mother's Day
00:52:29that's amazing
00:52:32what kind of mom was Maria growing up
00:52:34oh my god she's the best mom
00:52:36I was very lucky man
00:52:37my parents are second to no one
00:52:40I really think I was spoiled with all the love that they gave me
00:52:43all the hard nights I'm sure that they had with me grooming me
00:52:48but I have to give them full credit for that because they
00:52:51I think they raised me the right way
00:52:53so they did a great job
00:52:54you're generous you're you're thick skinned
00:52:57you're fun to be around you can take a joke
00:52:58you energize the whole room so we love it
00:53:01and again congrats on what you did that is amazing
00:53:03truly amazing all right great work
00:53:04let's give the Buffalo Sabres some hope what can we do
00:53:07you got 10 seconds
00:53:07yeah I think this Buffalo Sabres really got to get skating
00:53:10I don't I think they're standing around watching and Montreal's playing faster
00:53:13right now Buffalo's got to get their feet moving
00:53:15they got to play a little quicker
00:53:16well Montreal's playing Buffalo's game better than them
00:53:18they have to get their feet going
00:53:20I don't know Dali let the boys know
00:53:22giddy up
00:53:25Expedia first intermission report second period next
00:53:28with the great Sean McDonough and Ray Ferraro
00:53:40we're watching the Stanley Cup playoffs on ESPN presented by Geico
00:53:47game three of the second round series of the East the series tied at one the game tied at one
00:53:52time for winning ingredients brought to us by Chipotle and by Ray Ferraro
00:53:5814 shots in the first period for the Canadians
00:54:02from a Buffalo standpoint way too many of them too close to the goal and too dangerous
00:54:07the Canadians had an exceptional first period they gave up the early goal
00:54:11and if not for Alex Lyons exceptional play
00:54:15they would have got on the board earlier than this Alex Newhooks fourth of the playoffs and third of this
00:54:20series
00:54:22a 1-1 game and as you look at where the shots came from way too many
00:54:27concentrated too close to the net a good first period for Montreal
00:54:32Buffalo will take solace in the fact that they got out of it 1-1
00:54:36a nice start a decent finish and now they go to the second period tied on the road
00:54:41and a fun period to watch and we expect more of this Ray throughout the series
00:54:45this is the way these two teams like to play and there is
00:54:48as we discussed earlier some open space to be had on either side
00:54:52yeah they're gonna stress the goalies at one point or another
00:54:55Alex Lyons already faced a real good test in the first period
00:54:58one thing to keep an eye on is that Buffalo is on pace tonight for about 24 shots on goal
00:55:05that is a total that has become the regular for them
00:55:09they're down 10 shots a game in the last four playoff games
00:55:14prior to that they averaged 34 shots a game the last four 24
00:55:18they've not spent enough time around the other teams now
00:55:22it's four on four to start the period for 44 seconds
00:55:26and it'll be a Montreal power play after the penalty taken to the end of the period by Rasmus Dahlin
00:55:33Lyon turn one aside Buffalo looks to break with numbers
00:55:36here's Bowen Byram and a save made by Yakup Dovish looked like Newhook might have gotten a stick on that
00:55:43and now he moved it away from Alex Tuck
00:55:46Mike Matheson dropped it back and then he took a nudge from Tuck by the Buffalo bench
00:55:55nine seconds left and then it'll be a Montreal power play
00:56:03and here is the power play as Hudson got it across the line
00:56:10slap Kofsky a lot of room played it off down low
00:56:15and Caulfield missed a tap in
00:56:18set up by Hudson
00:56:20unbelievable that's a wide open net for Caulfield
00:56:26he continues to be snake bit
00:56:29now Suzuki gets knocked down
00:56:32slap Kofsky played it back to the point
00:56:36Suzuki for Caulfield
00:56:40Caulfield's only goal in the playoffs was on the power play sliding stop by Stanley
00:56:46a half minute left on the Darlene penalty
00:56:50Dan Madoff stick handling but couldn't get through Greenway and Stanley
00:56:54Hudson passed up a shot with Greenway nearby
00:56:5820 seconds on the power play
00:57:00and that wrister blocked by Malenstein
00:57:03and the puck cairns out of the zone
00:57:08and now they're offside on the entry
00:57:10Hudson protests
00:57:13but to no avail 13 seconds on the Darlene minor
00:57:17Hudson gets a move to dance around the top of the blue line
00:57:20watch Caulfield come off the backside
00:57:23this puck is in the goal crease for Caulfield
00:57:27it bounces off his skate and stick
00:57:29we'll get a good look at it
00:57:30oh it's just his stick
00:57:3251 goals in the regular season
00:57:34Cole Caulfield will not
00:57:36miss that very often
00:57:38an unbelievable play by Hudson
00:57:40Buffalo with an escape and a good break
00:57:43and it's still 1-1
00:57:46we talked to the outset Thompson
00:57:49had a drought
00:57:50Caulfield continues
00:57:52we start to say Jeff Gordon this morning
00:57:54talking about how that isn't that uncommon in the playoffs Ray
00:57:57because these teams play each other
00:58:00regularly
00:58:01they come up with a scouting plan
00:58:03they just have a more cohesive approach
00:58:06on how to stop the top downs on the other side
00:58:09well it's the same thing with a power play
00:58:11I mean you're playing against the same guys all the time
00:58:13they adjust they change
00:58:15and you've got to adjust with them
00:58:17but man Caulfield will not miss that again
00:58:19that was stunning miss for him
00:58:22mm-hmm
00:58:23like you missing a two-foot putt just never happens
00:58:26oh
00:58:29whoop
00:58:29Dovesh held on to the puck and then Gouly went down
00:58:32as he was tangled with Tuck
00:58:37here's Emily
00:58:38well in his own words
00:58:40Taich Thompson was fighting it in game two
00:58:42he called the entire game a disaster
00:58:44said his own play was sloppy
00:58:46and the message from the coaching staff was
00:58:48okay frustration hit now let it go
00:58:50just talk to Seth Appert who told me this is the complete opposite
00:58:54it's not just the goal his pace his compete level
00:58:57he said this is the Taich Thompson who was our driver all season long
00:59:01I noticed in the first two games it felt like he was trying to create so much to have the
00:59:06puck so much he overhandled it
00:59:08he ended up turning it over for a goal in the first game turning it over for a goal in
00:59:12the second game
00:59:13sometimes the less you do the better it is and Thompson looks a little more free tonight
00:59:19it was just one of those nights he lost the edge fell down and led to the goal by Carrie
00:59:24a really opened the game up for Montreal
00:59:28there's only minus four in one game the entire regular season back in December in Calgary
00:59:36Demidoff behind the net
00:59:38back of the line Matheson both teams are in full strength but blocked by Norris to the side of the
00:59:43circle
00:59:43Demidoff tried to center it
00:59:46and he missed Newhawk
00:59:47carry it back on
00:59:51now Newhawk
00:59:52one on one on Darlene and a glove save made by Lyon
00:59:58all of a sudden Newhawk is Guy Lafleur
01:00:04coming up next on ESPN game for the Golden Knights and the Ducks from Anaheim
01:00:12Vegas won there the other night on the center to take it two games to one lead in that series
01:00:18tomorrow night at eight o'clock on ESPN game for the Avalanche and the wild Minnesota got back in that
01:00:25series of the home win last night
01:00:27Tuesday we'll have game four for you here in Montreal this is for Newhawk to Ray when he shoots it
01:00:37hits on net last twelve shots have all been on net this last twelve attempts
01:00:43first round pick by Colorado it's you know this is but this is his best stretch and certainly in the
01:00:49playoffs
01:00:50Ryan smothers it
01:00:53Newhawk won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022
01:01:00when the puck starts to find you then it finds you in good positions here's that last chance by by
01:01:06Newhook and if you go back through any team that's had success in a playoff run there's always a player
01:01:12at least one like Newhook
01:01:14when Montreal last won their Stanley Cup in 93 I was playing against them it was Stefan LeBow it was
01:01:21Paul DiPietro who had the greatest moments of their career in one playoff run
01:01:26Newhook's on a great run three goals in this second round series already
01:01:31Good skater and he's just really getting his speed back he had ankle surgery
01:01:37and limited him during the regular season really throw it toward the net this played away by Malenstein
01:01:48missed the target icing the call against the haps well not only was Newhook on that Stanley Cup champion team
01:01:58for the Avalanche as was Bowen Byram they were teammates in Denver from 2020 to 2023
01:02:07and handed off the Stanley Cup in 2022
01:02:09Oh what a great picture that is look how young they are even back then just four years ago Byram
01:02:14had a great quote you win game one of the series you think you're gonna sweep you lose game two
01:02:19it feels like you're gonna lose in five
01:02:20the ups and downs of a playoff series you let the game go after it's done and now you move
01:02:26on to the next one Byram's had a great playoff man he looks just like the maturing player that he
01:02:31is he's
01:02:32a true top four defense but he's got four goals in this playoff
01:02:36he's got four goals in this playoff
01:03:02came out so far from the craze that when the carrot came off the back wall the net was wide
01:03:07up wide open
01:03:09he's aggressive he will jump out
01:03:12and he'll also give Krebs a little shove
01:03:15after the glove save
01:03:17Matheson went over
01:03:19to say something to Peyton Krebs
01:03:21and Dobish is a little bit of an emotional sword he got tied up and tangled up with Zach Benson
01:03:26in the last game
01:03:28this last chance is by Krebs
01:03:31and Dobish is starting to move a little bit to his right
01:03:34kind of sliding out of the play
01:03:36he makes a good glove save though
01:03:38on Krebs there
01:03:39here's this last one
01:03:40an easy catch
01:03:41and with Thompson going past the net
01:03:44Dobish gives him a little
01:03:45a little push
01:03:47she's having a discussion with Garrett Rank the official
01:03:51basically asking for the same protection that Alex Lyon got at the other end
01:03:55well it was at that end in the first period
01:03:58protect my crease
01:03:59let me play my position
01:04:00well dangerous move
01:04:02and here's a penalty
01:04:03and it's coming up against Dohm
01:04:06as Carrier moved toward the front of the net
01:04:09and got away with it in part because he got taken down
01:04:13Dobish on the bench
01:04:14and extra attacker on for the Canadians
01:04:17and as Norris plays it
01:04:18the whistle sounds
01:04:20and Montreal go back to the man advantage
01:04:22on a tripping call
01:04:24against Dohm
01:04:30Buffalo penalty number 91
01:04:32two minutes tripping
01:04:35Josh Dohm
01:04:36one of those young guys that's had a really great playoff for Buffalo
01:04:39he's always aggressive
01:04:40he's always up on the puck
01:04:42but there he takes the feed out
01:04:43from Caulfield going in front of the net
01:04:45so the Canadians their third power play
01:04:49of this hockey game
01:04:50they likely should have had one in the last one
01:04:53when Caulfield deflected that wide of the net
01:04:57they'll get a full two minutes here
01:04:59Suzuki and Greenway will be on the draw
01:05:03always helps you win that first faceoff
01:05:05you can get set without having to chase it down the ice
01:05:090 for 2 tonight
01:05:10a man up
01:05:10another clean faceoff win
01:05:12this one by Suzuki
01:05:13Demidoff touched it down low
01:05:15Slamkovsky
01:05:16beautiful
01:05:17fade
01:05:18and a miss
01:05:19by Caulfield
01:05:22Demidoff walks right into the dot
01:05:24missed the net
01:05:25and Hudson
01:05:26good
01:05:27reach to keep it in
01:05:28he's only 5'9
01:05:30needed all he had to keep that one
01:05:32in the zone
01:05:33has it back from Suzuki
01:05:35gives it back to the captain
01:05:38Demidoff to Hudson
01:05:40Greenway is without a stick
01:05:41for Buffalo
01:05:42Slamkovsky
01:05:43couldn't figure out what he wanted to do
01:05:45get knocked down by Samuelson
01:05:47Sabres couldn't clear
01:05:49they have a minute 20 to kill
01:05:501 1 game
01:05:52second period
01:05:53Demidoff
01:05:54blocked by Malenstein
01:05:56retrieved by Hudson
01:05:58Demidoff again
01:05:59Suzuki
01:06:03the handoff to Demidoff
01:06:05tough angle for Caulfield
01:06:07Suzuki
01:06:08Hudson
01:06:09Suzuki
01:06:10stopped by Lyon
01:06:11rebound
01:06:12touched back by Demidoff
01:06:13to Hudson
01:06:16Suzuki
01:06:17out in front
01:06:18for Slamkovsky
01:06:19at the far post
01:06:21now Hudson
01:06:24off the back wall
01:06:25to Caulfield
01:06:28Damidoff
01:06:29Hudson
01:06:30what a move
01:06:31Hudson
01:06:32out in front
01:06:33and they score
01:06:34finally
01:06:35called Caulfield
01:06:39and it's 2-1
01:06:58in the first period
01:06:59it was inevitable
01:07:00it felt like the Montreal
01:07:01was gonna break through
01:07:02this felt the same
01:07:04Greenway's out there
01:07:05doing what he can
01:07:06without a stick
01:07:08so Hudson's able to dance
01:07:09around him
01:07:12he doesn't look
01:07:13for Caulfield
01:07:14he sees him
01:07:16out of his peripheral
01:07:16vision here
01:07:18and he drops it
01:07:19right on the tape
01:07:20you think Cole Caulfield
01:07:22is gonna miss that
01:07:22twice
01:07:23no chance
01:07:25his second goal
01:07:26of the playoffs
01:07:27both on the power play
01:07:28this place erupts
01:07:30it's 2-1 Montreal
01:07:32his first point
01:07:34in six games
01:07:36he had gone pointless
01:07:37in the previous five
01:07:43set up by Hudson
01:07:45just a magnificent
01:07:46handler of the pocket
01:07:48passes
01:08:01Caulfield's on the right spot
01:08:03the Canadians have the lead
01:08:05the bell center is rocking
01:08:07and it is outside
01:08:08where there's 20,000 more
01:08:17Matthias Samuelson's broken his stick
01:08:20Greenway gave him his stick
01:08:22that's why Greenway has no stick
01:08:25and as Hudson dances through
01:08:27Greenway's helpless
01:08:28at this point in the power play
01:08:30they've been on the ice
01:08:31over a minute
01:08:32the penalty killers
01:08:33are gassed
01:08:34the power play guys
01:08:36are smelling blood
01:08:37and Caulfield takes that
01:08:38gorgeous Hudson feed
01:08:40to make it 2-1
01:08:42his second
01:08:44of the playoffs
01:08:45centering tried by Texier
01:08:47had Anderson breaking free
01:08:49it didn't get through
01:08:50Matheson Carrier moved it
01:08:52with Krebs moving in closely
01:08:55Anderson trying to spin away
01:08:56from Tage Thompson
01:08:58hard around
01:08:59Matheson's there
01:09:00with some room
01:09:01Tuck comes after him
01:09:05couple of Boston College Eagles
01:09:07there
01:09:07Matheson and Tuck
01:09:09Carrier down low
01:09:10off the skate of power
01:09:12and backhanded on net
01:09:13by Deneau
01:09:15good pressure by this line
01:09:17Deneau with Anderson
01:09:19and Texier
01:09:22Texier steps away from power
01:09:25Anderson room
01:09:26right out in front
01:09:27backhand off
01:09:28rebound
01:09:29no goal
01:09:31crowd takes it to goal
01:09:33the officials say no
01:09:35the puck is in the back of the net
01:09:38but with another swarming shift
01:09:40by the Canadians
01:09:42Lyons gonna make a stop
01:09:47and the pressure will continue to come
01:09:49he's got the puck here
01:09:51and he gets shoved into the net
01:09:53it looks like by Deneau
01:09:57there's the initial stop
01:09:59oh the puck's through his feet
01:10:04it might
01:10:05looking at replays on the big board
01:10:08here thinks this should be a goal
01:10:09let's bring in our rules expert
01:10:12Dave Jackson
01:10:13good evening Jacks
01:10:14goaltender was pushed into the net
01:10:16with the puck
01:10:17this is goaltender interference
01:10:20that's the explanation
01:10:22from the on ice officials
01:10:23Jacks what say you
01:10:25well Sean
01:10:26if Montreal feels
01:10:28this is the wrong call
01:10:29they can challenge this
01:10:30they can do a coach's challenge
01:10:32say we do not believe this is goaltender interference
01:10:35there is a shove of the pad
01:10:37I don't know exactly where the puck is
01:10:39when the pad is hit
01:10:40that could go to review
01:10:41but it'd be a very risky challenge
01:10:43if you're wrong on the challenge
01:10:45you're then serving a penalty
01:10:46you're down so I'm not sure I would challenge this play
01:10:48that's a bang bang judgment call
01:10:50the puck looked to be covered before it was shot
01:10:54Marty St. Louis feels the same thing
01:10:56Jacks he had a quick discussion
01:10:59he and Trevor Lutowski the coach to his immediate left
01:11:02had a quick chat
01:11:03they're not challenging obviously we're back at it
01:11:08Montreal carrying the play at 21 to 11 shot advantage
01:11:13their first lead of the night comes on Caulfield
01:11:15second goal of the playoffs
01:11:18from Hudson and Demidoff
01:11:20on the power play at 6 0 5
01:11:22it feels more than 21 to 11 in shots
01:11:25this is a survival time here for Buffalo in this game
01:11:31high quality from those 21 shots for sure
01:11:39the quest begins with the Buffalo Sabres
01:11:42believe in yourself believe in your teammate
01:11:44go behind the scenes with one team
01:11:46it's all about this hunger
01:11:47for each round of the Stanley Cup playoffs

01:11:55on DraftKings Sportsbook all customers can score a profit boost every day
01:11:59use code skate to get in on the action
01:12:08the cloud won the face off
01:12:10he was Buffalo's best in the regular season
01:12:12they're the worst face off team in the league
01:12:16beautiful move by Quinn
01:12:17and then he couldn't get a shot off
01:12:20as Evans got back in the play for Montreal
01:12:22I think this line is critical for Buffalo
01:12:25they've Zucker and
01:12:29McLeod and Quinn they haven't gotten anything done
01:12:32they've got to get on the board here for the Sabres
01:12:35second line for Buffalo
01:12:37McLeod with Zucker and Quinn have
01:12:39scored one goal combined in these playoffs
01:12:43that's the McLeod power play goal
01:12:45that's been it
01:12:47for them and
01:12:49you get into a stretcher where a few guys don't create anything
01:12:54and as we talked earlier it's harder and harder as the series goes on
01:12:58to find your way offensively
01:13:00but if you don't create enough
01:13:01pretty soon you've got one or two guys that are scoring
01:13:04that's it
01:13:05it's not going to be enough
01:13:07well the top line for Buffalo
01:13:09Thompson with Tuck and Krebs did not have a point
01:13:12in the first two games of this series
01:13:14in Buffalo
01:13:15nice pass save
01:13:16glove save rather
01:13:18on dome by Dobish
01:13:24Josh
01:13:24Jones got four goals in the playoffs
01:13:26and he's going to walk into this one
01:13:28he's got lots of room to skate
01:13:29as Kerry backs in a little bit
01:13:32Dobish who's a big guy
01:13:33down top of the paint
01:13:36pretty acrobatic split and glove stop here
01:13:38he got
01:13:39beat by Greenway over the glove
01:13:41it deflected off his glove in game one
01:13:43but he's had a good glove in the playoffs
01:13:45there he flashes the leather
01:13:47the other one loves the goalie making a glove stop
01:13:53Dobish has been rock solid in the net
01:13:56here's Anderson trying to turn on Samuelson
01:13:59used his long reach to stop the rush
01:14:02Texier back in the line carry it
01:14:04thrown toward the net by Gouldy
01:14:06and hits the side of the net and came out in front
01:14:09set away but not out by Darlene
01:14:11thrown in deeper by Texier
01:14:13now carried out by Darlene
01:14:17nice pass
01:14:19Doan
01:14:19and the stop being by
01:14:22Dobish
01:14:23then he took a little bit of a dive it seemed
01:14:26as he tumbled backwards
01:14:29easy for me to say
01:14:30from the gondola high above the ice
01:14:34oh
01:14:35man what a play by Darlene
01:14:37he's trying to create some room
01:14:38and he finds Doan out wide for the shot
01:14:41oh
01:14:41News
01:14:41not in the ground
01:14:41look from the bottom line
01:14:41all the way up here
