00:00:00Rooney! Oh-ho!
00:00:02Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:44Good evening. Five games on the way this evening and only three weekends remain in the Premier League season.
00:00:50It's the final sprint towards the finish line. Always up to speed, of course, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Williams.
00:00:56League leaders Arsenal play tomorrow. They began the day with a five-point advantage at the top, having played a
00:01:02game more than second-place Manchester City.
00:01:04Pep Guardiola's side faced Europe chasing Brentford this evening on the back of something of an epic at Everton on
00:01:10Monday.
00:01:12Pep Guardiola's team hoping to narrow the gap at the top to three points.
00:01:17This could be a big night in the title race.
00:01:20Dukku. That's the call for Manchester City!
00:01:26Come on, come on, come on, you all!
00:01:29Oh, Gay completely switches off. Tina Barry does his bit.
00:01:35Jake O'Brien! Everton have turned it around!
00:01:44And Erling Haaland gets one back!
00:01:49Jeremy Dukku rescues a point from Manchester City!
00:01:56Your commentator at the Etihad is Guy Mowry.
00:02:02A late equaliser usually feels like a point gain but not in Manchester City's case on Monday, having lost the
00:02:09lead and any notion of having an advantage in the title race.
00:02:13It feels now like only a mistake-free run to the finish will keep them in with a shout.
00:02:19And the team setting out to start that run today shows two changes from the draw at Everton, with Dutch
00:02:24duo Nathan Ake and Tijani Reinders coming in, replacing Kusunov, who's got a knock, and Nico Gonzalez back to the
00:02:32bench.
00:02:32Two changes to the Brentford team as well, as they chase a European place for the first time ever, and
00:02:38maybe even a spot in the Champions League.
00:02:41Aaron Hickey and Christopher Ayer come in for Seb Vandenberghe and Dango Watara.
00:02:49Five minutes played, and Andy Morrison's name is being sung by Manchester City fans.
00:02:56The former captain has been diagnosed with Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, it's a virus in the facial nerve.
00:03:02He was the man who wore number five in that famous 1999 playoff final against Gillingham.
00:03:09All that Wembley drama, fondly remembered and still loved here.
00:03:14Ake, had to stretch for it, stretched enough to make it a throw-in rather than a corner.
00:03:26Donnarumma doesn't get there, he's struggling, and it's cleared away by Mateus Nunes.
00:03:32Donnarumma appealing for a foul, nobody listening to him.
00:03:39He's the only sort of foul on Donnarumma there.
00:03:43Igor Thiago is just a big presence in front of him.
00:03:47He doesn't have to get out of the way just because the goalkeeper wants him to.
00:03:57Igor Thiago with a touch on for Schade, now there's a race on, and Mateus Nunes takes the ball.
00:04:03Brentford are adamant that he took the ball by foul means.
00:04:07And VAR are in operation.
00:04:11He took the ball.
00:04:12That's the VAR's opinion.
00:04:15The collision with Schade happened afterwards.
00:04:23I hope he senses his chance here, and he has forced Doku off-balance.
00:04:27Think it was just a slip there.
00:04:28It is going to be a corner.
00:04:31And the corner will be taken quick and short.
00:04:37Doku, with a shimmy past Jensen, and a touch towards Haaland, it's blocked, it's Gehi trying to get to it,
00:04:44but Kelleher then gathers the ball.
00:04:47The city threat is rising.
00:04:50Doku's in the midst of most of it.
00:04:52Haaland is starting to get more and more involved by the minute.
00:04:57Doku, with a lift through to Bernardo Silva.
00:05:00Jensen back to challenge him.
00:05:03And this one rolls behind for once given this time.
00:05:06The referee's frantically blowing away on his whistle.
00:05:09Bernardo Silva trying to get to the ball, stop from doing so.
00:05:13And a little bit of afters between Bernardo Silva and Nathan Collins.
00:05:18Bernardo Silva gets the yellow card, which is his tenth of the season.
00:05:23He's past the threshold, isn't he?
00:05:30Well, Manchester City have to hit the ground running.
00:05:33This is a big 45 minutes.
00:05:37Coyote.
00:05:39Through for Igor Thiago.
00:05:41Igor Thiago through on goal.
00:05:43Gehi now gets in his way and Donnarumma gets in the way of the shot.
00:05:48Important save.
00:05:50The Premier League's second most lethal marksman was in for Brentford.
00:05:55And Brentford got in really simply.
00:05:59Donnarumma sharply down and Gehi regained his composure to put it behind.
00:06:12It's not rocking and rolling, is it?
00:06:14Not at all.
00:06:17Too used to it?
00:06:19Expecting it?
00:06:20Don't know.
00:06:22Reinders.
00:06:24Doku.
00:06:30Doku!
00:06:32Just invited Kiki to get there first for Brentford and he did.
00:06:35It's going to be a corner.
00:06:38Dijani Reinders is going off and I think Ryan Shirky is going to see his number on the board as
00:06:43well.
00:06:44And on will come Omar Mahmouche and Phil Foden.
00:06:55Foden has scored seven goals in nine previous games against Brentford.
00:06:59Here's Doku.
00:07:01Here's Doku.
00:07:01He's gone for it again and he's done it again.
00:07:05It's a repeat show from Jeremy Doku.
00:07:09All eyes were on the touchline with the substitutions being made.
00:07:13As soon as they were on the field, the corner was taken, caught Brentford.
00:07:18And Doku hasn't half relieved the atmosphere in here.
00:07:23And that's the sort of view he's been looking for all game.
00:07:26He loves that view.
00:07:28He loves that goal.
00:07:29We've seen it a few times now.
00:07:32More than once in the last few weeks.
00:07:36They needed that.
00:07:39Goodness, they needed that.
00:07:43Tara.
00:07:47Played through beautifully to Igor Thiago.
00:07:50Igor Thiago's touch.
00:07:51Down goes Shada in the box.
00:07:53He's at him and he was pushed.
00:07:56Mateus Nunes plays it against Jamal Juk, but there will be a VAR check.
00:08:02And this is a really important one for Manchester City, for Brentford, for Arsenal.
00:08:07The first thing to be looked at will be the offside potentially, Igor Thiago.
00:08:12And then was there a push on Shada?
00:08:14That's what this is about ultimately.
00:08:17Well, the check's over.
00:08:18There will be no Brentford penalty.
00:08:20Just a bit of jostling between the two and not enough to constitute a push on the back of Kevin
00:08:25Shada.
00:08:25That's how the ref saw it in real time.
00:08:27And that's how VAR has seen it having another look.
00:08:31That's how VAR.
00:08:34Bernardo Silva.
00:08:39Semenya.
00:08:44Semenya will have a head of steam here.
00:08:47For the cross for Haaland.
00:08:49He can't finish first time, he can second.
00:08:52A different sort of earning Haaland goal.
00:08:58And a different sort of feeling of relief from the first goal.
00:09:02And City do now seem to be on their way to the three points that were an absolute cast-iron
00:09:09must.
00:09:10Welling Haaland has now scored in four successive Premier League games.
00:09:15Can't recall him netting too many times like this before, if ever.
00:09:20Manchester City two, Brentford nil.
00:09:22But what is it?
00:09:25What is it?
00:09:26And that is Silva.
00:09:27Malmouche.
00:09:29Foden.
00:09:30Nicely shifted from boot to boot.
00:09:36Doku
00:09:39Doku across to Foden
00:09:40What a save that is from Gellagher
00:09:44Razor sharp
00:09:45Phil Foden thought his long wait for his next goal was over
00:09:49He was sharp too with the attempt to score
00:09:52What about that strong arm from Gellagher
00:09:56Manchester City have played their best football since going 1-0 up
00:10:00Just seemed to shake all the cobwebs from them, calm everything down
00:10:05He started to actually play rather than be swamped by what it all meant today
00:10:11Bernardo Silva
00:10:13He's trying to prompt City to push forward to the end
00:10:15Knowing that goals could be a factor right at the end of the season
00:10:19Here's Haaland
00:10:21Haaland through to Marmouche
00:10:23And Marmouche has taken that beautifully
00:10:27And that's what Bernardo Silva's been insisting upon
00:10:30For the last few minutes
00:10:33Revving them up for more
00:10:34You never know
00:10:35One more at the end of the season could make all the difference
00:10:40Marmouche has found game time really difficult to come by in the last few weeks and months
00:10:45But you wouldn't know it by the way he puts this in
00:10:48That's clinical
00:10:50And another assist for Erling Haaland
00:10:52We talk a lot about his goals
00:10:54Well that's eight that he's made in the Premier League this season as well
00:10:59Semenyo's poke
00:11:00And only to Lewis Potter
00:11:02Henderson
00:11:11Rating by Watara
00:11:13Eagle Thiago
00:11:14And it's saved by Donnarumma
00:11:17Again
00:11:18Academic in terms of today's points
00:11:20Could mean something at the end of the season in terms of goal difference
00:11:27Manchester City get the result that they absolutely had to this evening
00:11:32For Brentford, a real blow to their hopes of getting into Europe
00:11:36for the first time in the club's history.
00:11:38They'll go again next week with two to play.
00:11:41City play Palace on Wednesday night.
00:11:44The first of three that they've got left as the chase of Arsenal goes on.
00:11:50In the first half, we arrived a lot in the final third,
00:11:53like what happened against Everton,
00:11:55but we didn't have enough players there.
00:11:57In the second half, we had enough players there.
00:11:59To score a goal is not to be a genius.
00:12:01It has to bring players close to Erling.
00:12:04You know, and Omar scored because Erling,
00:12:06and Phil Foden was close to Erling in the second half.
00:12:08That's why we create the sense of more goals.
00:12:11So Erling is there, Omar is there,
00:12:13and create a little bit doubts for the defenders.
00:12:15Otherwise, as Erling alone against three central defenders,
00:12:18it's impossible to score a goal.
00:12:19We know that we had to score.
00:12:21And when we scored a goal, obviously, there was more space,
00:12:25and then we scored the second goal,
00:12:26and we were a bit relieved, happy.
00:12:28He could have, should have had a penalty, key moment.
00:12:32I've looked at it three or four times.
00:12:33There's no way Kevin would go down.
00:12:36And the comment that was made was there wasn't enough contact.
00:12:40But Kevin's one of the quickest players in the league,
00:12:43and when he's moving at such speed,
00:12:45it's only going to take a little bit of contact.
00:12:47He's got the goal gaping.
00:12:50So, for me, that one is a penalty.
00:12:52And the gap is down to two points again.
00:12:55Over to Arsenal.
00:12:56What do you do tomorrow?
00:12:57Do you watch it?
00:12:57Follow it?
00:12:58Going golfing?
00:12:59By training.
00:12:59I have my sister here.
00:13:01So, we'll see.
00:13:02But, yeah, yeah, my home, I'll watch it, yeah.
00:13:04We all will, Pep.
00:13:05We all will.
00:13:06It really was Wayne the Doku show again today, wasn't it?
00:13:09He's stepped up as good and big players do when their teams need them.
00:13:13He has.
00:13:14And I think over the last few weeks, he's been incredible, really.
00:13:17And his run of form and his goals, he's scored the chances he's created.
00:13:21You see this first goal against Everton,
00:13:23cutting inside on his left foot, whipping in the far corner.
00:13:26And again here, hanging out in the back of the space.
00:13:29And then, no hesitation, gets the ball, cutting inside,
00:13:33and it's a great finish.
00:13:35And today, he was an absolute nightmare for the Brentford defenders.
00:13:38They couldn't deal with him.
00:13:39He was direct.
00:13:41He was positive.
00:13:42But with quality, which sometimes he has lacked at times.
00:13:45He makes the goalkeeper make a good save.
00:13:48And then he's forming a really good partnership with Nick O'Reilly.
00:13:51I think, again, and this is part of his game which I think he's improved a lot.
00:13:54It's a really good ball to O'Reilly.
00:13:56And then he pulls the ball back, but nothing really comes of it.
00:13:59Again here, drawing players into him.
00:14:01Good bit of communication with his eyes with O'Reilly,
00:14:04which is important and you need.
00:14:06Really good touch, flick.
00:14:07Ball comes into the box.
00:14:08And then Man City get another half-decent chance from him being positive
00:14:12and taking the ball.
00:14:14Here, drawing players into him again.
00:14:17Stands the defender up.
00:14:18No chance the defender can do anything about it.
00:14:20And creates a really good chance for Ireland Harland.
00:14:22So everything that City done comes through him.
00:14:25Find the pocket of space in the middle of the pitch.
00:14:27Being positive again.
00:14:28No hesitation.
00:14:29Taking a shot at his left foot.
00:14:30And here, Brentford now, they know that he's caused them problems all day.
00:14:35So now what they've done, they've got three players out and they still can't deal with him.
00:14:38They've got three players to try and get close to him.
00:14:40To try and tackle him.
00:14:41To try and foul him.
00:14:42Get to the byline again.
00:14:44Another good ball into the box.
00:14:45And unlucky not to score.
00:14:47And now on the corner, Phil Foden plays it short.
00:14:50They try and double up on him.
00:14:53Thiago comes out to see if he can help as well.
00:14:55And then here, the problem here is Thiago thinks that Brentford have got the ball.
00:14:59He goes to run forward.
00:15:00He gambles for the counter-attack.
00:15:02And Dockby comes into the space where Thiago was.
00:15:04And it's another incredible finish.
00:15:07Incredible.
00:15:08And to repeat that goal, if you like, as he has done a few times, is just phenomenal.
00:15:13And have a look at this as well.
00:15:15Well, I think this shows how reliant today.
00:15:18And not just today.
00:15:19Over the last few weeks, Man City has been on Dockby.
00:15:22Most of the attacks have come down the left-hand side.
00:15:24And when you've got a player that confident and not in form, you have to just keep him in the
00:15:27ball.
00:15:28And if you keep giving him the ball, he'll cause problems.
00:15:30Well, this increase, this flurry of goal-scoring activity is no coincidence, Wayne.
00:15:34Have a look at this clip.
00:15:36You and Micah telling him he needs to shoot more, this is, after the FA Cup semi-final.
00:15:40And this was his response.
00:15:42My first reaction when I dribble is like, who is free, instead of where is the goal, you know?
00:15:47Yeah.
00:15:47Instead of shoot or...
00:15:48So I have to be more selfish in those moments and look for the goal first as an attacker.
00:15:53And since that FA Cup semi-final, I mean, he's literally gone out there and done everything you told him
00:15:58to.
00:15:58Yeah, well, after the semi-final, I said to him off air, I said, you need to be more selfish
00:16:01and get more shots off.
00:16:03And you see from that, you know, the goals he scored, the shots he's had, the chances created.
00:16:07Everything about his game since then shows he's an absolute world-class player.
00:16:12And this season, but especially over the last month, you see it come together.
00:16:15Are you claiming an assist?
00:16:17I hope not, because obviously...
00:16:19Well, Arsenal fans aren't happy with you.
00:16:20No, but what you enjoy is top players being, you know, good and creating and causing problems for defenders.
00:16:26And speaking of Arsenal, of course, for the title race, they could not afford to drop any more points, Manchester
00:16:31City.
00:16:31They had to get back to winning ways today.
00:16:33Let's remind ourselves of the run-in there, Ashley.
00:16:36Yeah, they did what they had to do today against a very stubborn Brentford team.
00:16:40And then they just put the pressure a little bit back onto Arsenal tomorrow.
00:16:43I feel like Arsenal will be confident.
00:16:46They'll go into that game with confidence and they know it's in their hands now.
00:16:48And if you're Manchester City, today you just go out and get the win any way you can do.
00:16:53Yeah, I think City have just got to tie and win the games.
00:16:55And I said this last week, I felt City would drop points against Everton.
00:16:59And I feel like both teams will win every game, which makes Arsenal champions.
00:17:04And, of course, there were a couple of decisions.
00:17:06You heard Keith Andrews there talking about Kevin Sharder that he felt could have gone for them today.
00:17:11Did you agree with him?
00:17:12No, I can understand why he's frustrated.
00:17:15Because in real time, both decisions seemed like a foul, which weren't given.
00:17:19But after watching it back, after Sad, I don't think either of them was a foul.
00:17:23This was the first one.
00:17:24And as you can see, Nunes just gets a touch on the ball there.
00:17:27And I don't think that's enough contact.
00:17:29I can understand.
00:17:30I don't think Sharder's dived because he's running at pace.
00:17:33But I don't think it's enough for a foul.
00:17:35Watching this one, in real time, I thought it was a penalty, definitely.
00:17:38But as we see the replay, Sharder actually trips himself up.
00:17:42That's his own foot against his own heel.
00:17:45And because, again, he's running at such pace, he goes down.
00:17:47So I can see why Keith Andrews would be frustrated.
00:17:50But looking back at them, they're not fouls.
00:17:52At this stage in a title race, when it's tit for tat, Wayne, you've been there.
00:17:56Tell us what it feels like when you're inside that environment.
00:18:00Exciting, nervous, you get every emotion.
00:18:03And obviously, with Man City winning today, now it's Arsenal's turn to go out
00:18:06and go and win the game tomorrow against West Ham.
00:18:09So every type of emotion you think you can have, you go through over this next couple of weeks.
00:18:14And it's brilliant when you're in it.
00:18:16When you get out of it at the right side, then it's incredible.
00:18:20It's such a good feeling.
00:18:21When you're on the wrong side of it, which I've been on as well,
00:18:23it's one of the worst feelings in the world.
00:18:25OK, all to play for.
00:18:26Well, if Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish fifth in the Premier League,
00:18:31then sixth place would qualify for next season's Champions League.
00:18:34Bournemouth currently occupy that spot on a run of 15 games unbeaten
00:18:37ahead of their visit to Fulham.
00:18:38And Chris Latchen was at Craven Cottage.
00:18:42Anthony Iola has three games left at Bournemouth.
00:18:45Can he deliver continental football as the perfect parting gift?
00:18:49Marco Silva may also be on the move.
00:18:51We don't know if he'll extend his Craven Cottage contract.
00:18:54He makes changes from the side, folded by Arsenal last week.
00:18:58Tom Cairney comes into midfield,
00:19:00while Rodrigo Munez starts in place of the injured Raul Jimenez.
00:19:05Bournemouth have stood down right-back Alex Jimenez
00:19:07while they investigate social media posts.
00:19:09So Adam Smith comes in.
00:19:1112-goal junior groupie has impressed everyone this season,
00:19:15including Barcelona, said to be tracking his progress.
00:19:22It's been a good watch, some terrific football, but precious little by way of real chances.
00:19:29Chiquese now.
00:19:30Threads one through to Castagna.
00:19:32Hangs the ball higher, Munez!
00:19:35With the goal gaping heads the ball wide.
00:19:38Head in hands for his manager.
00:19:41Chiquese with disguise on the pass.
00:19:44The arc of the run kept him onside.
00:19:46And Munez surely should have hit the target.
00:19:52Castagna plays the ball inside to Wilson.
00:19:55Helps it on, and now look at this space down the left-hand side.
00:19:59Robinson galloping forward.
00:20:01Hill comes across to block him, and it's important defensive work
00:20:04by the right-back who tucked in Adam Smith.
00:20:14Kearney is the first meet, and Munez with the overhead attempt.
00:20:20Wonderful technique.
00:20:21Shout for handball.
00:20:22Play continues.
00:20:29VAR are checking for any whiff of handball from the Munez overhead kick.
00:20:33Play continues for now.
00:20:36That's a wonderful shimmy from Castagna.
00:20:39And a foul from Christie.
00:20:41Will produce the first yellow card of the afternoon.
00:20:46Really clever body shimmy from Castagna.
00:20:50He paid for it.
00:20:51Here's another look at Munez overhead kick straight into the ground.
00:20:56Well, Andy Madley is being sent to the screen here
00:20:59for the challenge by Ryan Christie on Castagna.
00:21:04It's a bad one.
00:21:06When you slow it down.
00:21:08And here comes the verdict.
00:21:10After review, the yellow card for Bournemouth number ten
00:21:13has been upgraded to a red card for service-style player.
00:21:16The fine decision is red card.
00:21:19If it's not, wait till you see it.
00:21:21So Ryan Christie is sent from the field in front of the watching Scotland boss Steve Clarke.
00:21:27And Bournemouth are down to ten.
00:21:32So not yet half-time.
00:21:34And Fulham are a man up.
00:21:38Wilson's cross.
00:21:40Anderson's header is looping onto the crossbar.
00:21:44Well, that would have been a one-two punishment for Bournemouth.
00:21:47Really well worked.
00:21:48Anderson gets up high.
00:21:50I think Petrovic had it covered.
00:21:56Long-range effort from Lukic is a good one.
00:21:59And Petrovic punched.
00:22:01Castagna helps it back in.
00:22:03It's too high for Smith-Rowe.
00:22:05Fulham surging towards the half-time break.
00:22:10Really good hit from Sasolukic.
00:22:13Denied by the brilliant diving save from Petrovic.
00:22:19Tabernier has ridden the challenge of Castagna and...
00:22:24The play was initially allowed to continue
00:22:26and then Anderson has gone in really heavily on Truffaut.
00:22:29And all of a sudden Bournemouth is surrounding Andy Madley
00:22:32and asking him about the ferocity of the challenge.
00:22:39It is a yellow card for Joachim Anderson.
00:22:43They're checking this for a red card for possible serious foul play.
00:22:48And now Andy Madley is being sent to the screen again.
00:22:53The VAR are showing Andy Madley the incident in full speed first
00:22:58so he can see it and then slowing it down so he can see the top leg
00:23:02and can judge for himself whether it's two feet with dangerous force.
00:23:10After review, the yellow card for Fulham number 5 has been upgraded to a red card for stage foul play.
00:23:16The bad decision is a red card.
00:23:20It's ten on ten. The yellow card for Anderson deemed insufficient after review.
00:23:27And now Marco Silva's Fulham are also down to ten men.
00:23:31And Fulham's advantage is removed.
00:23:35Well, the half-time team talks would have been shaken up, maybe even torn up by those two late red
00:23:40cards.
00:23:43Tavernier, did well to keep it in play, couldn't keep possession.
00:23:49But he's won it back here, Tavernier.
00:23:51And now Kruppi on the edge never needs too much!
00:23:54And he's whipped the ball onto the crossbar.
00:24:00Barely a yard to work in for the young Frenchman, but he's shown all season.
00:24:03He doesn't need much more than that.
00:24:07First look at goal for the teenager.
00:24:09And he's so nearly beat Bernd Leno.
00:24:16Trafer with the delivery too high for Ryan.
00:24:21Smith recycles the play.
00:24:22Might yet fall for Ryan.
00:24:24Who got it out of his feet!
00:24:25And further back of the net!
00:24:30A magic moment for Bournemouth in the sunshine!
00:24:34Their brilliant Brazilian at it again.
00:24:39What a season this teenager is having.
00:24:41And when Smith laid it off, he only had one thought in his mind.
00:24:44Bang!
00:24:46Could Bernd Leno have done better?
00:24:48Slightly unsighted.
00:24:49Antony Iriola cares not a jot.
00:24:521-0 Bournemouth.
00:24:54Marco Silva says if Fulham want European football,
00:24:57every game really becomes must-win.
00:25:00If Bournemouth get the points today,
00:25:02they can almost touch European football.
00:25:05Bob.
00:25:05Lovely disguise on the pass and gets it back.
00:25:08Gets a yard and fires the ball over the top.
00:25:12What an introduction that would have been for the young Norwegian.
00:25:19Good to see Roy Hodgson, one of five former Fulham bosses in the stands today.
00:25:25Kruppi to Ryan.
00:25:26Kruppi is foul.
00:25:27Play continues.
00:25:28Ryan is advancing on his own.
00:25:30But Josh King is the only man to stop him.
00:25:33Ryan goes past two and Castagne has done well.
00:25:36It's still alive and Truffaire has his shot blocked on the line.
00:25:40Josh King who's just come on, a teenage attacker,
00:25:44is initially beaten but he is the player that recovers
00:25:47to block the certain goal from Truffaire.
00:25:53Unal keeps possession and has it in the box now and whips it across goal
00:25:58and Amin Adley flosses lines.
00:26:04Brilliant work by Unal and if not quite an open goal,
00:26:08four fifths of an open goal.
00:26:13Fulham are into their last minute.
00:26:14Robinson sends it into the box.
00:26:16It might yet fall for Bob.
00:26:19It might yet fall for King off the underside of the bar.
00:26:23And still alive.
00:26:24Munez is blocked out.
00:26:26And Bournemouth can breathe again.
00:26:30What a moment for Fulham and Josh King.
00:26:33But he couldn't beat the upright.
00:26:35And that's why they're celebrating.
00:26:39Bournemouth have held on.
00:26:41And now they believe they can almost book their flights.
00:26:45Full time at Craven Cottage.
00:26:47Fulham nil, Bournemouth one.
00:26:50Today was not decisive because we still need more points
00:26:53but it was a big game considering also the opposition.
00:26:59Also how the game has gone.
00:27:01The two red cards you kind of reset, start a different game.
00:27:04And I think especially the players have shown like big spirit.
00:27:08Completely undeserved result for us.
00:27:10I think is the first thing that I want to say.
00:27:13After of course that real moment from Anderson,
00:27:16the red card changed completely the dynamic of the game.
00:27:19I didn't see so far an image that showed to me
00:27:22that is a clear red card for Rohr.
00:27:24That is true, I didn't see.
00:27:25I see many replays about the moment.
00:27:28You don't think that's a red card?
00:27:29No, I didn't see an image that showed to me that is a red card.
00:27:32The lads are buzzing.
00:27:34That was a real shift of a game.
00:27:36We believe in ourselves.
00:27:37The ability we've got in this group is top.
00:27:40It's a special group.
00:27:41And, you know, we've got two big games now to keep our dream alive.
00:27:45We'll get onto the dream in a moment.
00:27:47But Michael Silva having a bit of a grumble there about Joachim Andersson.
00:27:49And that was the second red card of the match.
00:27:52So let's do them in order.
00:27:53Ryan Christie first.
00:27:54How did you see them both?
00:27:56Yeah, I think this one's a now done red card.
00:27:58I think he's just misjudged it.
00:27:59I don't think there was malice in the tackle, but you can see clearly here.
00:28:03It's high with force and he's out of control.
00:28:05So I think Castagne is lucky that he managed to continue playing in that game.
00:28:10I think Christie knows straight away he's mistimed that and it got upgraded.
00:28:14And rightly so by Andy Madley, who did have a busy afternoon.
00:28:17This one at first I didn't I didn't think it was a red card.
00:28:22And I thought that Anderson was a little bit unlucky.
00:28:25But watching it back, I think he's left the floor with both feet.
00:28:29Whereas he has touched the ball a little bit.
00:28:33Both of his right and his left foot made contact.
00:28:36So I can see why it was given.
00:28:37And he has tweeted about this.
00:28:39And that appears to be genuine his sentiment in there that, you know,
00:28:43that he's taking full responsibility.
00:28:44So he's taking ownership of it.
00:28:46Yeah, which would suggest that he probably knows as well.
00:28:49That is the right decision.
00:28:50And of course, that all happened in the first half.
00:28:52Second half Bournemouth come out.
00:28:53And we're seeing them playing very attractive attacking football.
00:28:56And they kind of reverted to their type.
00:28:58Yeah, absolutely.
00:28:59And I think a credit to the manager.
00:29:01Again, we we often say this, but he he actually took his striker off
00:29:05and put on Tyler Adams, who was excellent.
00:29:06And you can see with these three players at the top end of the pitch,
00:29:09Tavernier wins the ball back.
00:29:10It's a great best girl from Kruppi.
00:29:12So unlucky not to score that.
00:29:13That would have been a great goal.
00:29:16And that Truffaut delivers the ball in.
00:29:19They keep it alive.
00:29:20It goes out the back.
00:29:22Rayan's very clever with where he gets the ball.
00:29:24And once he gets in this position, you just fancy him.
00:29:26And it actually takes a bit of a nick off Calvin Bassi and goes past the goalkeeper.
00:29:32Truffaut, as I said, he had a really good game.
00:29:34He's added so much to this Bournemouth team this season,
00:29:37driving forward.
00:29:38They've got pace and power.
00:29:40Tavernier is always lively.
00:29:41Great bit of skill.
00:29:42Double step over.
00:29:43Shifts it.
00:29:44Gets his shot off.
00:29:44And they're creating chances.
00:29:46They still look dangerous, even though Evan Nilsson's not on the pitch.
00:29:48You can see here how quickly they get the ball forward.
00:29:51A little bit of skill from Kruppi.
00:29:53And then Rayan, he's been electric since he's been in the league.
00:29:56But look at the support with him.
00:29:58They're up.
00:29:58Even though they've got ten men, they've still got energy.
00:30:01A little bit unlucky.
00:30:02Truffaut probably should score a good block from King.
00:30:05But, you know, having taken his striker off with ten men,
00:30:08you wonder what he's doing.
00:30:09But when you've got those players up front, you've still got a second option.
00:30:12The whole passage there actually kind of sums up.
00:30:14It was a crazy game in me, wasn't it?
00:30:15Very entertaining.
00:30:16They are on the longest unbeaten run at the moment of 16 games.
00:30:22That's in Europe's top five leagues this season.
00:30:24They're the ones that are in the continuous unbeaten run.
00:30:27The others have come to an end.
00:30:28And that is why they're in the box seat, really, for that sixth spot.
00:30:31Yeah, and I do really believe it's down to the manager.
00:30:35I think he's been so impressive this season.
00:30:36They've recruited well.
00:30:37But it's almost like whoever he puts on the pitch gets the job done.
00:30:41And he plays his style of football.
00:30:42And I think they've been a credit to themselves and the league.
00:30:45Man City at home.
00:30:46Nottingham Forest away are their two remaining fixtures.
00:30:50And Fulham, of course, could have been up there.
00:30:52But they've just tailed off, haven't they?
00:30:54Just two wins in nine.
00:30:55And it's kind of an opposite situation, in a way, to Bournemouth.
00:30:59They've got real clarity in what's going on with their team,
00:31:01their manager for the future.
00:31:03Yeah, it is.
00:31:03And I think for the Fulham players, obviously,
00:31:05with the uncertainty with Marco Silva's future at the club.
00:31:10And you don't know how that affects players
00:31:12and whether that affects them in a negative way.
00:31:14But, obviously, the run of form they've been on hasn't been great.
00:31:17And the flip side, as you said, was Bournemouth.
00:31:20They lose the manager.
00:31:21Announce the manager's leaving.
00:31:23And swiftly announce a new manager, which gives them players clarity.
00:31:26It gives them the energy and the vision to look forward,
00:31:29to know what they want to do, and hopefully go and qualify for Europe.
00:31:32And, of course, new manager coming in, Marco Rosa.
00:31:34Delighted that they're sitting there at the moment,
00:31:36potentially with Champions League football next season.
00:31:38OK, well, Brighton manager Fabian Herzler signed a new deal this week
00:31:42to keep him at the club until 2029.
00:31:44His side were looking to continue their push for European football
00:31:47when they faced bottom-side Wolves at the Amex.
00:31:49Jonathan Pearce, watch this one.
00:31:52Hurt's throw has won 43.5% of his games in charge,
00:31:55the highest win percentage of any of their managers
00:31:58since Gus Boyette 13 years ago.
00:32:01Two wins from the last three should be enough for European qualification.
00:32:04Wolves haven't won in 19 away league games,
00:32:07and their seven away goals this season
00:32:09is the lowest tally in Europe's top ten leagues.
00:32:12Two Brighton changes to Koifa for Wifa, who's injured,
00:32:15Carioglu switches to right-back,
00:32:16and Dunk returns after four games for Boscagli.
00:32:19If Danny Welbeck scores a 14th Premier League goal this season,
00:32:22it'll set a new club record.
00:32:25One Wolves change, Hwang for Raccadari up front.
00:32:27Crecci is fitting up for the bench.
00:32:29They haven't beaten Brighton in the last eight meetings,
00:32:31but they've lost here just once in six visits.
00:32:39In the old gold and black,
00:32:40Wolverhunt and Wanderers get us off and underway.
00:32:43Kicking from right to left.
00:32:45If they lose today,
00:32:47it means they'll have lost against all other 19 Premier League clubs this season.
00:32:52And that would be just the second time that's ever happened.
00:32:56Hugo Bueno takes the throw to Andre,
00:32:59here's Danny Welbeck to Mitoma.
00:33:01Brighton will want to start the game on the front foot and well.
00:33:04And it's out wide here for De Kuyper's cross into the middle,
00:33:08and they've started brilliantly!
00:33:10Hincherwood, three goals in three games!
00:33:13And Brighton over Albion score in the first minute of play.
00:33:17Brighton one, Wolves nil.
00:33:19What a start.
00:33:21It was a towering leap and a fine header,
00:33:24but I'll tell you what Mitoma does well here.
00:33:28Battled hard to play it out wide.
00:33:31De Kuyper back in the starting line-up saw the run of Hincherwood,
00:33:33no one in all gold did.
00:33:35Really appalling defending.
00:33:38Brighton Albion one, Wolves nil.
00:33:40Is the score in the first minute.
00:33:44Minty tries the big switch.
00:33:47All the way to Mitoma, Lima was hesitant, Mitoma inside him.
00:33:51Will shoot from here, will he?
00:33:52He releases, Minty arrives back into the middle.
00:33:55And it's cleared away by Santiago Bueno.
00:33:59And Brighton cut effortlessly through Wolverhampton Wanderers there.
00:34:06Brighton are flying.
00:34:07Four minutes gone, they're ready lead.
00:34:10De Kuyper will take the corner kick.
00:34:14To the far post.
00:34:16Dunk makes it two.
00:34:20This is a stroll in the sunshine for Brighton and Hove Albion.
00:34:25Two up inside four minutes.
00:34:27It's his first goal since February 24.
00:34:30Back in the side, he's missed four games,
00:34:32a couple of them through suspension.
00:34:34Made his run in from beyond that far post.
00:34:37Too strong, too focused, too hungry.
00:34:40Look at the old gold shirts back in there.
00:34:42A lot of them are just marking space.
00:34:46Victory today, coupled with other results, could take them sixth.
00:34:49If Aston will win the Europa and finish fifth.
00:34:52Sixth will be enough to bring Champions League football.
00:34:56Wellbet.
00:34:57Steps away from the challenge.
00:34:59Into Minte.
00:35:00Sharp return.
00:35:01Pinchyward.
00:35:03In it comes to Mitoma!
00:35:05It's well worked but wide.
00:35:08First touch took it wider than he really wanted.
00:35:11Narrowed the angle.
00:35:12He was allowed to get the shot away.
00:35:15There's no communication out there for Wolves.
00:35:18Lack of leadership.
00:35:22Diagonal switch to Minte.
00:35:26Mario Rambueno.
00:35:28In comes across, Welbeck, far post, needed to be saved.
00:35:34And again a ball from the wide position, causing damage.
00:35:38Cross for Welbeck at the far post.
00:35:41Perhaps got too much on it, headed down.
00:35:44Onto the ground, and Bentley pushed it around.
00:35:48Wolves have made a change.
00:35:50They've taken Hugo Bueno off, he hasn't reappeared.
00:35:53And David Muller-Wolf has come on.
00:35:58Mane looks for the substitute.
00:36:00Carioglu got back at him and deflected it away.
00:36:02But that's a meaningful Wolves attack for the first time in the game.
00:36:05And as a result of it, they get their first corner of the game.
00:36:10Right-footed.
00:36:11It's dangerous, you know, towards that far post area.
00:36:14Dunk got up well.
00:36:16This is Andre.
00:36:18Flashes it back into the middle.
00:36:20Wang with the header on.
00:36:21Mane scoops the cross back in.
00:36:23Off the top of the bar.
00:36:26That's the closest we've seen from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
00:36:29Ahead from Yes and Mosquera.
00:36:32Managers got a reaction from them for the second half.
00:36:36The Hinchua goal, by the way, was his 150th in charge as a manager of Brighton.
00:36:42And the 400th goal his teams have scored in his career as a manager.
00:36:47Mane has crept infield.
00:36:50Tries to trick his way through.
00:36:52Still going!
00:36:52It's parried away!
00:36:54Arms run!
00:36:54Can he finish?
00:36:55Checks back to his left.
00:36:56And it's scrambled away.
00:36:59Couldn't clear his feet to get the shot off.
00:37:02Mane here was allowed to get through that gap.
00:37:05Get the shot away.
00:37:07Keeper didn't cover himself with glory.
00:37:10And Brighton fans are getting agitated.
00:37:19And Kuba Minto goes out wide.
00:37:23Dunk lets it run onto the Kuiper.
00:37:26Takes the extra touch.
00:37:27It's a backheel by Gross!
00:37:32Lovely little backheel here.
00:37:36Rob Edwards will take some cheer from the fact that they've kept the scoreline to the two.
00:37:44Oh, lovely football, Brighton.
00:37:47Rute.
00:37:48No free kick, picks himself up.
00:37:51Desperate defending back in there.
00:37:52Minty's turned away and scores!
00:37:55And Brighton have a third.
00:37:58Oh, they finally made the game safe.
00:38:0282 minutes after they scored their second goal, they get their third.
00:38:07It's not really deserved one.
00:38:11Tried to get it away, Wolves.
00:38:14But it wouldn't go.
00:38:16And it wouldn't go.
00:38:18And Minty exploded in the third goal.
00:38:22His third goal of the season.
00:38:24Alfie, we're with you.
00:38:26Alfie is the son of the kit man who had crucial surgery this week.
00:38:32And Brighton have already with three goals and three points.
00:38:36Move closer to Europe.
00:38:37Brighton three, Wolves nil.
00:38:39Me and Maxi, we just spoke in the warm-up.
00:38:41He said, when I've got the ball, you know, make runs into the box.
00:38:44And he obviously got the ball at his feet and crossed it.
00:38:48And yeah, I was arriving with good timing and it set us on our way.
00:38:52It probably weren't our best performance, but it's a 3-0 win.
00:38:55And that's all that matters at this stage of the season.
00:38:57It's results.
00:38:58I mean, it was a shocking start.
00:38:59I think we were still in our nice hotel for the first five minutes.
00:39:03Absolutely, yeah, it's a despicable start.
00:39:05Played backwards.
00:39:07Still in bed for the second one.
00:39:09The corner is shocking defending.
00:39:11We know there's going to be a lot of change going forward and for next season.
00:39:14So, you know, that is what it is.
00:39:16But the ones that are here right now continue to show some pride.
00:39:19Two games to go.
00:39:20Leeds, then Manchester United.
00:39:23How do you approach those games?
00:39:25We have to go all in now and that approach doesn't change.
00:39:29So, we will keep going.
00:39:31We focus on our jobs.
00:39:32We focus on things we can control.
00:39:33We can influence.
00:39:34That's only the performance.
00:39:35And then we see what happens.
00:39:37Well, they were disappointed with their performance last weekend against Newcastle
00:39:40and they were in a real hurry to get things done and dusted today, weren't they?
00:39:43They wasn't.
00:39:43The fastest ever Premier League goal for Brighton.
00:39:45They was and they started the game, you know, with so much intensity
00:39:48and you look at this from the start, getting around the ball, winning the ball back.
00:39:53And now they go forward, they've got runners going forward
00:39:56and Wolves just could not live with it right from the start.
00:39:58And I think this Brighton's fastest goal in the Premier League history, 35 seconds.
00:40:03But what a header, what a cross and what a header that is.
00:40:05And it didn't stop there.
00:40:06Wolves just could not deal with Brighton all day and this.
00:40:11Another great switch of play.
00:40:12We don't seem to see these switches play anymore.
00:40:15But then the intent again, runners off the ball, making Wolves, you know, look very ordinary,
00:40:20which, let's be honest, they have been all season.
00:40:23And then a good cutback and now they get a corner.
00:40:26But look at the bodies in the box.
00:40:27And from that resulting corner, this defendant is shocking.
00:40:31You look at the Wolves players, Brighton, the danger for Brighton is at the back post.
00:40:35The Wolves players are not even interested.
00:40:36They're not looking.
00:40:37They're not opening the body.
00:40:38They don't know what's around them.
00:40:40And then as the ball comes into play, the ball comes to the back post.
00:40:43And then it's a really good header.
00:40:45So I think how they started the game, the intensity, the energy, which Brighton had was incredible.
00:40:53And then this is the 15th minute.
00:40:55So all this is inside the 15 minutes.
00:40:57A game getting bodies in the box and then nearly killing the game off.
00:41:02But I think the way Brighton set out the stall to win this game from early on was devastating.
00:41:09And for the manager, a new three-year deal, three goals and three points.
00:41:13And it was a fantastic performance.
00:41:15Jack Hinchelwood has caught the eye all season, hasn't he?
00:41:17And he personifies versatility, I think, doesn't he?
00:41:20Because he's played in these positions here.
00:41:23This is the percentage of time that he's played in each of these different positions.
00:41:26And that's over 4,311 minutes as well.
00:41:29So you think, well, where is his best position?
00:41:32Well, of late, it would seem actually to be in the 10 rule.
00:41:36Yeah, and he's only 21 years old.
00:41:38And sometimes as a young player, you're asked to play and fill in and do a job for the team,
00:41:42which he's obviously done.
00:41:42You see 30% of his games are right back there.
00:41:45But he seems to have found a home, as you say, in this attacking midfield position.
00:41:48He was brilliant again today.
00:41:50He scored a really brave, good header at the start of the game.
00:41:53And he seems to be comfortable in that creative position.
00:41:56Well, I said that perhaps Bournemouth were in the box seat for that sixth place.
00:42:00But these are Brighton's remaining fixtures.
00:42:02They've got Leeds away, Manchester United at home, Wayne.
00:42:05And let's not forget, European football could go right down to eighth place this season.
00:42:10Yeah, I think the tough fixtures to both Brighton, a fantastic team they've shown that all season.
00:42:16And I think it's safe to say that they pretty look sure to be playing European football at some stage
00:42:22next season.
00:42:22They have had a season, of course, in Europe before.
00:42:24But, you know, having Fabian Hertzler's contract secured as well for a few more years,
00:42:29that was announced this week.
00:42:30Again, you referred to it with Bournemouth.
00:42:31That certainty shows what a well-run club it is.
00:42:35Yeah, well, exactly.
00:42:36I think Devon and Bramford are two of the best-run clubs in the Premier League.
00:42:40And it's no surprise, you know, they're doing what they're doing.
00:42:43OK, thank you.
00:42:44Four games on tomorrow's match of the day with plenty of attention on events at the London Stadium.
00:42:50.
00:42:51.
00:43:03And that would be...
00:43:06.
00:43:06.
00:43:06But he's crossed for it to Sola.
00:43:08It's a great chance.
00:43:10And Callum Wilson's done it.
00:43:12And a tap in for Jokeres.
00:43:17There's live commentary of all those games
00:43:19across Five Live and BBC Sounds,
00:43:21along with Celtic against Rangers
00:43:23from the Scottish Premiership at midday.
00:43:25Kelly Summers chats to Lucy Bronze
00:43:26in the football interview,
00:43:27which is straight after this programme on BBC One.
00:43:30Next Saturday afternoon,
00:43:31it's the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City.
00:43:34That's live on BBC One.
00:43:35And if you missed the start of the show,
00:43:37it's available right now on iPlayer,
00:43:38along with edits of every match.
00:43:40And watch out for this.
00:43:41It drops first thing on Monday.
00:43:45We got labelled like the golden generation.
00:43:48We had captains winning Premier League,
00:43:50winning Champions League.
00:43:51But in the World Cup,
00:43:53you get a crisis every two or three days.
00:43:57Reporters, cameras everywhere.
00:43:59This is a bad start for England.
00:44:00Everyone was thinking,
00:44:01why is it not quite working?
00:44:05You know any of the characters in that one?
00:44:10You don't have to watch it.
00:44:11OK, to Anfield,
00:44:12fourth place Liverpool,
00:44:13still work to do, of course,
00:44:15to guarantee Champions League football next season.
00:44:17Chelsea have the FA Cup final next week,
00:44:19but they've lost six in a row in the Premier League.
00:44:22Commentary comes from Simon Brotherton.
00:44:25Champions League football could be secured for Liverpool
00:44:27by the end of the day.
00:44:28If they win and Bournemouth don't,
00:44:30Rio N'Gamoa starts in place of Florian Beerts,
00:44:33who's ill,
00:44:34while fit again,
00:44:35Giorgi Mamadash Vidi returns in goal.
00:44:38Chelsea make five changes,
00:44:39among them,
00:44:40Philip Jorgensen starts in goal,
00:44:42with Robert Sanchez out,
00:44:43following his clash of heads on Monday,
00:44:45with Morgan Gibbs-White.
00:44:46and Levi Colwell makes his first start of the season
00:44:49after recovering from an ACL.
00:44:58Bit of space here
00:45:00for Kerkhez,
00:45:02and he's taking full advantage of it,
00:45:04challenged by Caicedo,
00:45:05and it's going to be a Liverpool free kick.
00:45:11Clumsy from Caicedo.
00:45:17So, five minutes in,
00:45:20Sir Bosley strikes it,
00:45:22straight at Colwell.
00:45:26N'Gamoa,
00:45:28up against Parma,
00:45:30here is Gravenberg,
00:45:31oh, it's delightful!
00:45:35What a glorious strike!
00:45:38Brian Gravenberg scores for the first time
00:45:42since just after Christmas in the league.
00:45:46And what a beautiful strike it was too.
00:45:50And it's taken Liverpool just over five minutes to score.
00:45:55Liverpool 1, Chelsea 0.
00:45:58And Chelsea's recent woes are quick to continue.
00:46:07given away by Jorgensen,
00:46:09collected by Frimpong.
00:46:11Red shirt suddenly now
00:46:13appearing in and around Chelsea's penalty area.
00:46:16And it's a corner.
00:46:18First one of the game.
00:46:23Alexis McAllister to take.
00:46:28Super Sly.
00:46:30Decent ball in.
00:46:31It's left for Van Dijk
00:46:32and it was a great chance for number two.
00:46:38Completely unmarked.
00:46:40Van Dijk,
00:46:41not sure whether he was in an offside position there,
00:46:44but he was in plenty of space.
00:46:50Caicedo.
00:46:51This is better.
00:46:53Brilliant pass from Moises Caicedo.
00:46:55Kukureya.
00:46:57Fingertip saved by Mamadashvili.
00:47:00Gusto sending it in,
00:47:01trying to pick out Jean-Pedro.
00:47:03That was better from Chelsea.
00:47:07Chelsea suddenly bursting into life here.
00:47:19A free kick there conceded by Cody Gakpo.
00:47:26Chelsea,
00:47:27one assumes,
00:47:27a sensing opportunity here.
00:47:30Despite the fact they're behind.
00:47:34And so Fernandes whips it in.
00:47:36Oh,
00:47:36it barely needed a touch.
00:47:37It may not have even got one.
00:47:41Chelsea are level.
00:47:44It was slow and hard.
00:47:46And it went all the way through into the far corner of the net.
00:47:52Was there a touch by Fofana here?
00:47:55Swung his right foot at it.
00:47:58Chelsea won't worry too much about who it is who claims the goal.
00:48:02Because most importantly for them,
00:48:05they are level.
00:48:10It's been a while since Chelsea won a match at Anfield.
00:48:13Their last win here came in front of an empty stadium during COVID.
00:48:17Mason Mount scored the only goal of the game that day.
00:48:20It was five years ago.
00:48:25Caicedo.
00:48:26Great movement here by Kukureya.
00:48:28Almost an un-goal.
00:48:29And into the back of the net by Cole Palmer.
00:48:33Chelsea get their noses in front in the fourth minute of the second half.
00:48:38And Cole Palmer scores for the first time
00:48:42in a couple of months since the 4-1 win away at Aston Villa.
00:48:47Early in March.
00:48:51The goal is not going to stand.
00:48:54Kukureya is adjudged to be in an offside position.
00:48:57And it will be offside by a very slender margin.
00:49:02Well, there's a let-off for Liverpool.
00:49:07Andres Santos.
00:49:10Interception made by Jones.
00:49:12And Curtis Jones has it now.
00:49:13Advantage played by the referee.
00:49:15And Jones has done really well.
00:49:19And now it's with Frimpong.
00:49:25Sobozlai.
00:49:272-1 Liverpool.
00:49:28Flag goes up.
00:49:29Won't count.
00:49:31Curtis Jones celebrates for barely a second or two.
00:49:37Both teams then denied a goal by a slender offside margin in the opening 13 minutes of the second half.
00:49:47Liverpool have won the last two games here.
00:49:49Recently against Fulham.
00:49:512-0.
00:49:51And Crystal Palace 3-1.
00:49:52The last home match.
00:49:55And they're on the front foot once more with Ryan Gravenberg.
00:49:59Jeremy Frimpong.
00:50:01Looked like a handball there.
00:50:03Cuts back.
00:50:04Sobozlai brings the best out of Jorgensen.
00:50:07They will check for a possible penalty.
00:50:12Supporting arm.
00:50:14Here's the word that comes back to the referee.
00:50:20Here comes the change for Liverpool.
00:50:22Alexander Isak is going to come on.
00:50:25And the crowd are very unhappy that Rio N'Gamoa is the player being substituted here by Arnaz Slott.
00:50:33And having expressed their displeasure towards their manager at his decision, N'Gamoa gets a great reception.
00:50:49A bit of space here for Cutslai to strike it.
00:50:53Rattling.
00:50:55The frame of the goal.
00:50:57With a venomous shot.
00:51:00Sunder a strike.
00:51:07Cucuré is challenged by Jones and Caicedo loses it to Isak.
00:51:18Corner.
00:51:22More Liverpool pressure for Chelsea to try to deal with.
00:51:30And the header was a brilliant one from Van Dijk.
00:51:35They will check the challenge on him inside the penalty area.
00:51:40And they've actually looked at the other incident on McAllister.
00:51:44But it will not be given as a penalty.
00:51:53Nicely done from Jean-Pedro.
00:51:55Who's still going here.
00:51:57And still.
00:51:58And Frimpon challenges.
00:52:01He's back up.
00:52:02But it will be looked at.
00:52:03It breaks down for Chelsea.
00:52:04He's asking the question.
00:52:06But Liverpool can't get it away.
00:52:08They claim a handball.
00:52:10And the referee's going to give a free kick to Liverpool.
00:52:15They've completed the check on the challenge in the penalty area.
00:52:18And it will not be a penalty.
00:52:23That will do it.
00:52:25On is even at Anfield.
00:52:27And the noise in the background tells you what many among the home faithful think of it.
00:52:32It's finished at Anfield.
00:52:34Liverpool won.
00:52:34Chelsea won.
00:52:36It was disappointing to concede that goal.
00:52:38We'll have a look at that and look at the reasons why.
00:52:41A much better reaction from the early goal we conceded last week.
00:52:44So that's a positive.
00:52:45And that's what you have to do at this level.
00:52:47At any moment.
00:52:48Premier League teams can have a moment.
00:52:50Score a goal.
00:52:50A bit of quality.
00:52:51So you have to.
00:52:52It's not going to be perfect.
00:52:53And I was pleased with the response.
00:52:54Rio N'Gamoa was given an opportunity today.
00:52:57He's quite a handful, isn't he?
00:52:58The crowd clearly wanted to see a bit more of him when he came off.
00:53:02I can completely understand that they wanted to see him longer.
00:53:05But what they probably didn't notice is that three minutes before that he went to the floor,
00:53:09close to Kramp.
00:53:11So I had contact with him.
00:53:12Can you go on?
00:53:13And he was really doubting.
00:53:15So he gave the signal that he had to come off.
00:53:17But I knew when his number went up, that wasn't the most popular decision I could make at that moment
00:53:23of time.
00:53:25Yeah, there were definitely some rumblings at Anfield of disquiet today.
00:53:28Well, then we'll get into that.
00:53:29But first of all, Wayne, will you clear up the Chelsea equaliser and who should the goal go to?
00:53:37Yeah, it sends out goal, I think.
00:53:40It's a really good free kick, actually.
00:53:42But it's poor defenders from Liverpool.
00:53:45You look at the space here in the middle of the penalty box.
00:53:47And the ball goes right through.
00:53:50And for Fahna, I think he says straight away it's not his goal.
00:53:54And he points to Enzo.
00:53:56So it's Enzo's goal.
00:53:58But the marking from Liverpool was terrible.
00:54:01And I initially thought he actually got a touch on the ball here.
00:54:04That's the angle, that I think.
00:54:05Yeah, it looked like it did.
00:54:06But then this clears it up.
00:54:07I think you see here he's nowhere near the ball.
00:54:10And it goes straight in.
00:54:12But the worrying thing for Liverpool is, if you look at the Chelsea players here,
00:54:15they're all reacting and all waiting for a rebound or the second ball.
00:54:18And there's only one Liverpool player who's actually reacting.
00:54:20They're all stood, you know, eight to ten yards out the box and just watching it go on.
00:54:26So I think that was a big concern.
00:54:28Six defeats in a row before today for Chelsea.
00:54:31And there was a little tactical tweak, wasn't there, involving Mark Cucurella, which has made a bit of a difference
00:54:36for you.
00:54:36Yeah, absolutely.
00:54:37Today, I think they played him higher up the pitch.
00:54:40They had Fofana just in behind him.
00:54:43And this is from kick-off.
00:54:45And it shows that most of the attacks today were down Chelsea's left-hand side.
00:54:50And that was down to Cucurella, who we know is full of energy, full of running, very creative.
00:54:56And today he looked like he enjoyed himself in this more advanced position.
00:55:02The timing of his run here is brilliant.
00:55:04He's looking to run forward.
00:55:05He's looking to run in beyond.
00:55:07He's creating chances for Chelsea in, as you said, where they've struggled up to now.
00:55:12But he was...
00:55:14Curtis Jones was playing against him, who's a midfielder.
00:55:16And you can see he just switches off here.
00:55:18Another good run from Cucurella.
00:55:21He was really trying to pierce the Liverpool defence with his movement and his runs in behind.
00:55:27Here now that Frimpong's on him, Jones is a little bit caught in between.
00:55:31Should he go to Fernandes or not?
00:55:33Again, this one was...
00:55:35He was just offside on this one.
00:55:36But again, it's another great run.
00:55:38The timing of it was nearly perfect.
00:55:40Nearly sets up the goal for Cole Palmer.
00:55:45This is Curtis Jones on the ball.
00:55:47Gives it away.
00:55:48Just look at Cucurella.
00:55:49He's on his bike straight away.
00:55:51He doesn't stop there.
00:55:52He continues into the box.
00:55:55Two Liverpool players are focused on the ball.
00:55:56Nobody's thinking about what's behind them.
00:55:59He makes that run and, again, nearly gets his shot off
00:56:03if it's not for a really good block from McAllister.
00:56:05So, you know, in a team that's struggled to find creativity,
00:56:08just moving Cucurella up the pitch
00:56:11seems to do his trick for them today
00:56:12and give them a different dynamic to their attack.
00:56:14And getting that point and having a performance like that
00:56:17the week before you've got an FA Cup final
00:56:18will have done them the world of good.
00:56:20But Liverpool, Wayne, could have today, of course,
00:56:22all but sealed the deal in terms of Champions League football.
00:56:24They had a lot to play for today.
00:56:25They did.
00:56:26They could have guaranteed Champions League football next year
00:56:29and it looks like they'll certainly get that.
00:56:31But there was a lot of worrying times,
00:56:34which there has been all season, if I'm being honest.
00:56:36And I think they don't know,
00:56:38they haven't got an identity of how they play.
00:56:41Players don't look as if they're interested to play for the team.
00:56:44And the fans are realising that, the fans are seeing that.
00:56:47And obviously, we've seen it with Rio going off.
00:56:49But the Liverpool fans are normally, you know,
00:56:51they give the players time, they give the managers time,
00:56:54they're patient with them.
00:56:55But I think they're starting to lose the patience.
00:56:57They've lost nine points from winning positions at Anfield this season,
00:57:01which is the most for a very long time.
00:57:03And obviously, it's a completely contrasting season, isn't it,
00:57:05to this time last year.
00:57:06There's a lot to get right, a lot to put right.
00:57:09Yeah, and I think they made a lot of changes in the summer,
00:57:12ones that we all sat here and thought were really good players.
00:57:15And it's taken them a long time to integrate into it.
00:57:17Going forward, I'm not sure, you know,
00:57:19which of these players that Arna Slott is going to try
00:57:22and build his team around and who are the core players in this team.
00:57:27At the minute, I don't see really where they're going.
00:57:30It's been a really frustrating season for Liverpool.
00:57:32OK.
00:57:33Third place Manchester United have already sealed their place
00:57:35in next season's Champions League.
00:57:37They headed to the Stadium of Light to face a Sunderland side,
00:57:39still with European ambitions of their own.
00:57:42Mark Scott is your commentator.
00:57:44Sunderland are just three points off eighth,
00:57:47which could be good enough for a place in Europe next season.
00:57:50But they've not been too good lately,
00:57:52taking just a point from their past three matches.
00:57:56Their appeal against Dan Pallard's red card at Wolves was unsuccessful,
00:58:00so Lutzer Alhid Traude comes in for his first minutes in over a month.
00:58:04Manchester United have Lissandro Martinez back available after a ban,
00:58:09while there are rare starts for Mountain Xerxi with Masraoui
00:58:12and former Sunderland favourite Ahmad also coming in.
00:58:19Krandi Xhaka.
00:58:22Wanted Reynaldo to make the run,
00:58:24almost used him by not using him,
00:58:26Reynaldo now shuffles it back to Talby.
00:58:31Sunderland making the brighter start,
00:58:33and a bright moment here,
00:58:34which nearly ends up in the net from Talby.
00:58:39Sunderland's, I think, knew it was going wide.
00:58:46Manchester United yet to have any serious possession in the Sunderland half.
00:58:52And it's Sunderland coming forwards again here,
00:58:54Siddiqui's through,
00:58:56and he's denied by a terrific stop from Sunderland.
00:59:05Siddiqui started to move with a bit of fancy footwork,
00:59:08continued his run,
00:59:09spotted and picked out by a super pass.
00:59:12And then it's a super stop from Lomans
00:59:14to prevent Sunderland taking the early lead.
00:59:16And they are making the early running.
00:59:20While he secured Champions League qualification last week,
00:59:23Michael Carrick says nothing's really changed
00:59:25in terms of whether he'll be staying on as manager next season.
00:59:29And that he's not bothered if the club are running the rule
00:59:31over other potential candidates as well.
00:59:35Given the job that both these managers have done this season,
00:59:38it's a bit strange that there is talk
00:59:40that they might not be in post
00:59:42come the start of the next campaign.
00:59:47Ahmad peeling away,
00:59:49and that's important from Reynaldo.
00:59:52Kunia back in,
00:59:53and Xerxi!
00:59:55best we've seen from Manchester United so far.
00:59:59Tricky for Xerxi though,
01:00:00as he was going backwards
01:00:02to try and generate some forwards momentum.
01:00:06A much-changed Manchester United side today,
01:00:09and they're yet to really click.
01:00:14Lafay,
01:00:15Brobby,
01:00:17laid off nicely,
01:00:18and sent wide by Siddiqui.
01:00:21With the aid of a deflection,
01:00:23it's another sight of Senel Oman's goal for Sunderland.
01:00:27And Siddiqui's strike looked on target
01:00:29until the intervention
01:00:31from Mason Mount.
01:00:36The weather is rubbish and the game hasn't been much better.
01:00:41Shaw's hurried clearance is cut out.
01:00:49Lafay,
01:00:50and Frobby denied by a quality stop from Lomans.
01:00:56Not the first time today
01:00:58that the Manchester United keeper
01:01:00has stood up
01:01:01and kept Manchester United level in the game.
01:01:05Perhaps a bit too close to Lomans,
01:01:07but he still had work to do
01:01:08and reacted smartly.
01:01:17Hittraude.
01:01:19Hittraude.
01:01:20Brobby,
01:01:21Hittraude!
01:01:24Hasn't scored for Sunderland.
01:01:27Lutzorel, Hittraude.
01:01:29Mightily close to changing that here.
01:01:33Nice layoff from Brobby.
01:01:34And although he slipped
01:01:36as he hit it,
01:01:37it was almost inch perfect.
01:01:45Mount to Fernandes.
01:01:48Manchester United have got a man down here.
01:01:51It's Bruno Fernandes
01:01:53who's holding his face.
01:01:59Oh, and I think that
01:02:00Anculo could be in trouble here.
01:02:05Certainly an arm in the face
01:02:06of Bruno Fernandes.
01:02:08I'd be surprised if VAR
01:02:10didn't want to take
01:02:11a closer look at this.
01:02:13Movement of the arm
01:02:15towards Fernandes,
01:02:16but not in a violent manner
01:02:18is the VAR verdict.
01:02:21So Bruno's going to be disappointed here
01:02:24that there are no further repercussions.
01:02:29Martinez,
01:02:30good strong challenge that.
01:02:31Not a bad pass either.
01:02:33And here's Mateus Cunha
01:02:34to possibly win it for United.
01:02:38Masraoui
01:02:40Fernandes!
01:02:42Still searching
01:02:43for that bit of quality
01:02:45this afternoon,
01:02:46Manchester United.
01:02:52Bruno Fernandes releasing
01:02:54from Dorgou.
01:02:55Danger here for Sunderland.
01:02:56Dorgou's cut back.
01:02:57Cunha!
01:02:59Roof's in the way.
01:03:04Cunha with the turn
01:03:06and then the tumble.
01:03:07And it's a free kick
01:03:08for simulation
01:03:09and a yellow card
01:03:11for Mateus Cunha.
01:03:13the referee had no hesitation here
01:03:16that this was a dive
01:03:17from Cunha.
01:03:19Hasn't had much to do today
01:03:20with Robin Roof's,
01:03:22but ensured that he was
01:03:23in the right spot
01:03:24to repel that strike
01:03:26from Cunha.
01:03:29I think a clean sheet
01:03:30away from home.
01:03:31Tough place to come here.
01:03:33We knew it was going to be tough.
01:03:34It was never going to be
01:03:35a perfect game.
01:03:36I think it shows probably
01:03:37where we're at
01:03:38in terms of not playing
01:03:39totally at our best
01:03:40and getting a good result.
01:03:41So the point's okay.
01:03:43Probably we created
01:03:44enough chances
01:03:45to win this game,
01:03:46but chances
01:03:47doesn't mean goal.
01:03:49And when we got
01:03:51this momentum
01:03:52and the big chances,
01:03:54we were not clinical enough.
01:03:55And I think the Premier League
01:03:56is really demanding.
01:03:57When you don't score,
01:03:58you are always on the edge.
01:04:00But it shows that our season
01:04:01has been excellent so far.
01:04:03And I think
01:04:04we don't know what will happen
01:04:05for the last two games,
01:04:06but it's very positive.
01:04:08And if we are disappointed
01:04:09at home
01:04:11after a draw
01:04:11against Man United,
01:04:13it's a good sign
01:04:13for the club.
01:04:14And some people
01:04:15from the outside looking in
01:04:16will say,
01:04:16was there an issue
01:04:17with motivation
01:04:18now that you've got
01:04:18Champions League in the bag?
01:04:20No.
01:04:22And that's not something
01:04:23that you need to be concerned about
01:04:24for the remainder of the season
01:04:25neither, is it?
01:04:26Not at all, I think.
01:04:28Nothing's done, you know.
01:04:29The season's not finished,
01:04:30so I don't...
01:04:31If someone's got that mentality,
01:04:32then they're not in our camp.
01:04:34It's not something
01:04:35we've spoken about
01:04:35and it's certainly
01:04:36not going into the game today.
01:04:37The boys were in a really good place,
01:04:38so that's really not something
01:04:40that we're concerned about at all.
01:04:41We'll talk about
01:04:42Manchester United's performance
01:04:43and maybe the drop-off
01:04:44from last weekend
01:04:45in a moment.
01:04:46But first of all,
01:04:46the incident on Bruno Fernandes,
01:04:48Nilsson Angulo.
01:04:50Was he lucky?
01:04:51Yeah, very lucky.
01:04:52Really lucky boy
01:04:53because I don't know
01:04:55what he's thinking here.
01:04:56He's clearly...
01:04:57That's not a running action.
01:04:59He's clearly tried to elbow him
01:05:02in the face.
01:05:02He's caught him with his forearm.
01:05:04We've heard today
01:05:05that because it was the forearm,
01:05:07not the elbow,
01:05:08or it wasn't enough contact
01:05:10that it's not a red...
01:05:11It is a red card.
01:05:12That's the naughty challenge.
01:05:13He's very lucky
01:05:14not to be sent off.
01:05:15And there was a drop-off
01:05:16in performance.
01:05:17There were a few personnel changes
01:05:18as well.
01:05:19And perhaps,
01:05:20if we have a little look
01:05:21at Michael Carrick's
01:05:22use of his players
01:05:24since his time in charge,
01:05:26he's actually used
01:05:27fewer players
01:05:28in the Premier League
01:05:29than most teams around.
01:05:32In fact,
01:05:32any other team around him
01:05:33equal there
01:05:34with Leeds and Everton
01:05:35and Bournemouth below.
01:05:36And that points to,
01:05:38perhaps,
01:05:38the fact that he is showing today
01:05:40he needs to strengthen
01:05:41his squad
01:05:42the Champions League football
01:05:43next season.
01:05:43Yeah, no,
01:05:43I think it was
01:05:44with Manchester United
01:05:45not in the Champions League
01:05:46last season,
01:05:47obviously,
01:05:47to get back
01:05:48in the Champions League
01:05:48against Liverpool
01:05:49last week
01:05:50was big for the club.
01:05:52And today,
01:05:53yeah,
01:05:53they weren't at the best
01:05:55today.
01:05:56But in terms of
01:05:56the players' views,
01:05:57I think what it shows
01:05:58is that Manchester United
01:05:59need to invest in players
01:06:01in the summer
01:06:02because
01:06:03in order for Man United
01:06:05to compete
01:06:05in the Premier League
01:06:06next season
01:06:06and the Champions League
01:06:07next season,
01:06:07where they want to be,
01:06:09they have to invest.
01:06:09They have to strengthen
01:06:10the squad.
01:06:10And I don't think
01:06:11there's any denying that.
01:06:12Now,
01:06:13if I was a player
01:06:14and Manchester United
01:06:15wanted to sign me,
01:06:16the first question
01:06:17I would ask is,
01:06:18does the manager want me?
01:06:19Who is the manager?
01:06:20Does the manager want me?
01:06:21So,
01:06:21I think for Manchester United
01:06:22to have that clarity
01:06:23on who the manager is
01:06:24and listen,
01:06:25I think everyone knows
01:06:26I've been very supportive
01:06:27of Michael Carrick.
01:06:28If Michael Carrick
01:06:29hadn't done the job
01:06:30he'd done,
01:06:31I wouldn't be sitting here
01:06:31saying you should
01:06:32give him the job.
01:06:33But I think
01:06:34for what he's done
01:06:34and he's earned
01:06:36his right to get
01:06:36that manager's job
01:06:37and I think
01:06:39for the club
01:06:40to announce him,
01:06:41I think they need
01:06:41to do it swiftly
01:06:42because they need
01:06:43to get players in
01:06:43and they need
01:06:44to get players,
01:06:44you know,
01:06:45they'll be talking,
01:06:46I'm sure they will,
01:06:46but they need
01:06:47to get players in
01:06:48for next season
01:06:48to improve that team.
01:06:49And the price
01:06:50of those players
01:06:50that they're looking at,
01:06:51if they have a good
01:06:52World Cup,
01:06:52it only goes up,
01:06:53doesn't it?
01:06:53So,
01:06:54in terms of good
01:06:54business sense,
01:06:55you want to get
01:06:56those players signed up
01:06:57before they go off
01:06:58and play in the World Cup?
01:07:00Absolutely,
01:07:00because they'll have
01:07:01their targets
01:07:01and we've seen now
01:07:03that, you know,
01:07:04he wants the players
01:07:05that he wants to play
01:07:06and when some of those
01:07:07players are out there
01:07:08are a weaker team,
01:07:09first and foremost,
01:07:09I agree with you,
01:07:10I don't know what more
01:07:11Michael Carrick can do
01:07:12to get the job,
01:07:13it's a bit farcical
01:07:14that he hasn't got
01:07:14the job already,
01:07:15just give him it,
01:07:16he's got the club
01:07:17back into the Champions League
01:07:18so back him
01:07:19and then he can go
01:07:20on and choose players
01:07:21that he wants
01:07:21quickly and swiftly
01:07:22before the World Cup.
01:07:23But it's not that,
01:07:25it's players will be
01:07:26looking at Manchester United
01:07:27but they'll also
01:07:28be looking at other teams
01:07:28so what you don't want
01:07:30to do is have your targets
01:07:31and then lose them
01:07:32because you haven't
01:07:32got a manager in place
01:07:33and I think he's done
01:07:34everything to get it done
01:07:36and then let's start
01:07:37bringing players in.
01:07:38And some people might say
01:07:39well yeah,
01:07:39they've not played
01:07:40as many players
01:07:40because they haven't
01:07:41played in as many
01:07:41competitions,
01:07:42they've played the
01:07:42fewest games in their
01:07:43history this season
01:07:44haven't they,
01:07:44but they'll be playing
01:07:45a lot more next season.
01:07:46Yeah, they will
01:07:46and listen,
01:07:47whether it's Michael
01:07:48or someone else,
01:07:49they're going to have
01:07:50to bring players in
01:07:50regardless so it should be
01:07:52Michael and let's open it.
01:07:54Final word.
01:07:55OK, let's have a look
01:07:55at the table.
01:07:57The gap at the top
01:07:57is now two points
01:07:58after Manchester City's win.
01:07:59Manchester United
01:08:00and Liverpool
01:08:00stay third and fourth
01:08:02respectively.
01:08:03Bournemouth, Brighton
01:08:03and Brentford remain
01:08:04in the race for Europe.
01:08:05At the other end
01:08:06both West Ham and Tottenham
01:08:08are still fighting
01:08:09for survival.
01:08:10Arsenal go to the
01:08:10London Stadium on Sunday
01:08:12while Spurs host Leeds
01:08:14on Monday night.
01:08:16Thank you so much
01:08:17Ashley and Wayne.
01:08:18In a season then
01:08:19of surprises,
01:08:20here's where we stand.
01:08:21Pep supporting the Hammers,
01:08:22Spurs might need
01:08:23Arsenal to do them
01:08:24a favour
01:08:24and Bournemouth
01:08:25could be in the
01:08:25Champions League
01:08:26and we're still no closer
01:08:27to knowing who's
01:08:28going to win the title.
01:08:29Expect more twists
01:08:29and turns over
01:08:30the next few weeks.
01:08:31Good night.
01:08:33We'll see you next time.
01:08:35We'll see you next time.
01:08:36We'll see you next time.
01:08:42We'll see you next time.
01:08:44We'll see you next time.
01:08:46We'll see you next time.
01:08:48We'll see you next time.
01:08:49We'll see you next time.
01:08:49We'll see you next time.
01:08:50We'll see you next time.
01:08:50We'll see you next time.
01:08:51We'll see you next time.
01:08:51We'll see you next time.
01:08:52We'll see you next time.
01:08:52We'll see you next time.
01:08:53We'll see you next time.
01:08:54We'll see you next time.
