00:00Tonight, on the thrilling season finale
00:03of The Curse of Oak Island.
00:05Start your engines.
00:06If there's a vault below here, this can tell us.
00:09Wow.
00:09It can lead literally to where treasure's deposited.
00:12Whoa.
00:13Check this out.
00:14This is strange.
00:15This came from 200 feet in the money pit.
00:17That's incredible.
00:18Oh, yeah.
00:19Oh, you got it.
00:20Oh, my gosh.
00:22Oh, wow.
00:22It's treasure from the money pit spoils.
00:25That's amazing.
00:26Yeah.
00:26And it's ours.
00:31There is an island in the North Atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible
00:37treasure for more than 200 years.
00:41So far, they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it, manmade workings that
00:49date to medieval times, and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:56To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:02And according to legend, one more will have to die before the treasure can be found.
01:25Hello, guys.
01:26It's a new day.
01:28So I'm optimistic here in money pit one.
01:30Terry, remind me what depth we finished at yesterday.
01:32Finished up at 138.
01:33Okay.
01:35Winter is fast approaching on Oak Island, which means the year will soon come to an end for
01:40Rick, Marty, and their team.
01:43But as they excavate a key target in the money pit area, they may have all the time they need
01:49to solve a 231-year-old mystery.
01:54We're just about 12 to 20 feet short of the actual solution channel top.
01:58So, high hopes.
02:00We're just now getting to the most interesting depth, and it's only going to get better from
02:03here on out.
02:04And that's music to my ears because that means there could be artifacts at any level we're
02:09going through.
02:10Mm-hmm.
02:12The seven-foot diameter shaft known as money pit one, or MP1, is located in a region where
02:19soil and water tests from more than 200 feet deep in the solution channel have revealed
02:25unnaturally high traces of silver.
02:34All right, Terry, let's get stuck in.
02:36Got it.
02:36And even more compelling is the fact that those silver levels match the composition of the
02:43so-called Pit Blado coin, a 14th century silver coin reportedly extracted from the original money
02:50pit in 1849 by a drilling foreman named James Pit Blado.
03:02Big signal, eh, mate?
03:03Big signal, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
03:13Is that it, Tim?
03:15Big, big, big, big, big, big, big.
03:20Wow.
03:22That's a piece of drill point.
03:23Piece of drill point.
03:24Looks about two inches.
03:26Yeah.
03:27It's a little bigger than that inch-and-a-half stuff.
03:29So it looks a little different, isn't it?
03:31Yeah.
03:32Okay, we're interested to see how old that is. Yeah. Well, that was an interesting go. What'd you find?
03:39Two-inch pipe. Two-inch pipe. Yeah. So the last time we found two-inch pipe out here, that dated
03:45in the lab to mid-1800s.
03:47Right. We figured it may be connected to the Pip-Lado incident, right? Yeah. I think this is more of
03:52that same pipe. Yeah.
03:54Earlier this year, as the team was core drilling just a few feet from this location,
04:00they recovered an identical piece of drill pipe that was scientifically dated to the same era as James Pit Play
04:07-Doh's drilling operation.
04:10We are chasing the collapse of the money pit, so it's possible that we are in the vicinity of the
04:14original money pit.
04:15Exactly. It's an interesting artifact.
04:19Hey, guys. Hey. Hello, buddy. Morning. Hey, Adam. How you doing?
04:22Well, we're at 151. Right. We're going to push pretty hard here on these next few turns.
04:28Sounds good. That's good.
04:30Everything from here on out is going to be good for us, I think.
04:33Yeah. Good.
04:35Okay, guys. Thank you for the update.
04:36Yep. See you, man.
04:38Onward and downward for sure.
04:40Mm-hmm.
04:41Target depth's about 215.
04:44We've just got to get down there.
04:45As the dig continues in the MP1 shaft...
04:51Hey, Laird. Fiona. I got my support troops here today.
04:54You sure do.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Marty brings Rick to the mysterious stone cradle on Lot 8 to update him on a potentially important recent discovery.
05:04So, Rick, I dug a trench over there to see if there was something underneath it.
05:09What if it covered a tunnel?
05:12Yeah.
05:12Then I dug down to bedrock.
05:14Yeah.
05:15You both observed I was pounding on it. The teeth were scraping.
05:18And you were hitting it directly.
05:21Yeah.
05:22After the team previously found evidence of both silver and a possible shaft buried below the mysterious cradle of stones,
05:31Marty dug a trench to the side of it in search of a possible tunnel.
05:37However, he was surprised to reach bedrock just six feet down, which is at a shallower depth than the cradle
05:44feature.
05:45Here's where you come in, Ian.
05:48Laird never hit bedrock in the stone cradle.
05:51It's as if this was dug through the bedrock.
05:53Right.
05:54Topographic change of rock over a short distance isn't something I've experienced anywhere.
05:59Mm-hmm.
06:00It's impossible to be more surprised than we were to find that rock cradle.
06:05It's intentional.
06:06It's purposeful.
06:07So, I think there's more work to be done to come to an understanding of what this is.
06:11Is there something under here?
06:13We need to find out.
06:15The Lot 8 feature represents one of the most enigmatic finds on the island.
06:21And Phil and Laird are taking the time to uncover the cradle.
06:25But we're going to run out of time here.
06:27There's no question about it.
06:29Perhaps we need to take a different approach.
06:32Well, if we want to know how far bedrock is there, the only thing I can think of is basically
06:38a hammer drill if you want to keep on going down, down, down here.
06:41You need, like, a pneumatic hammer drill.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Yeah.
06:45A hammer drill would work.
06:49Often utilized in masonry, a hammer drill is a power tool that simultaneously rotates and hammers an attached auger bit
06:57into a hard surface, such as stone or concrete.
07:01The percussive motion allows the drill to penetrate denser objects more efficiently than a standard drill.
07:09And it wouldn't shake and vibrate the cradle?
07:12No, it doesn't shake.
07:13It doesn't do anything.
07:13Just checking.
07:13It's more that I'm thinking of shaking the rocks loose that I don't wish to come loose.
07:17Yeah.
07:18Yeah.
07:18What do you think?
07:19No, it sounds good.
07:21Yeah.
07:22You know, if we're not finding the bedrock, I think we need to keep on going just in case there's
07:27a shaft or a tunnel underneath here.
07:29I mean, while we're here, we should get it done.
07:31No, we don't want to do it invasively or destructively, but I think, to your point, I'd like to know
07:37where bedrock is.
07:38Me too, Rick.
07:38I mean, both of you have said that many, many times, you know?
07:42Is there something hiding under here?
07:44Let's do this for right now.
07:45We don't have the right equipment right now.
07:47Let's go talk to Billy and see what he's got.
07:48Yeah.
07:49And then we'll come back here and see if we can get to the bottom of this.
07:53All right.
07:53See you later.
07:57Meanwhile.
07:58Hey, Katja.
07:59Hi, Steve.
08:00How's it going here?
08:01Really good.
08:01This area has just been amazing for us.
08:04We're digging through a lot of the old spoils from old searchers.
08:09Steve Guptill joins Katja Drayton and Billy Gerhardt, several yards south of the Money Pit area, to search the so
08:17-called Dunfield spoils.
08:20These are several mounds of earth that were excavated from the Money Pit by Robert Dunfield in 1965 during his
08:28unsuccessful effort to recover the treasure.
08:32Could be quite exciting today.
08:34Well, let's find some treasure.
08:35Yeah, let's find something.
08:36Yep.
08:39Robert Dunfield's efforts to conduct his big dig certainly pushed a lot of spoils piles in the Money Pit down
08:47the hill.
08:48And they were never really investigated for clues to the area we are now intent on exploring.
08:54So the hope is that we will find artifacts that will help us unravel what happened in the Money Pit
09:00long ago.
09:09Oh, you got a hit.
09:10That sounds really good.
09:11It sounds really good.
09:15Oh, it's small too and non-ferrous.
09:18Right here?
09:19Yep.
09:19All right.
09:21Where would you like it?
09:23Anywhere in front of me is fine.
09:29Okay.
09:29That's it?
09:31Yeah, we'll give it a little pinpoint in the hole, see if we can find it.
09:37Ooh.
09:38I'm on it.
09:41Oh, you got it.
09:43Oh, my gosh.
09:48It's very clean.
09:49What is that?
09:51I mean, the things that really don't corrode are precious metals.
09:57While searching spoils that were removed from the Money Pit by treasure hunters more than 60 years ago.
10:03I think that we just found a silver coin.
10:06Oh, wow.
10:08Katya has just made a potentially critical discovery.
10:12I've learned that when you don't have, what do you call it, the beveled edges?
10:16Milled edges.
10:17Milled edges.
10:17Yes.
10:18Okay.
10:18So that dates back to older.
10:20Much.
10:22In the late 17th century, Sir Isaac Newton, who also served as the master of the Royal Mint of England,
10:30was the first to design coins with milled edges.
10:34This was done in order to combat counterfeiting.
10:38Now, you know, you can see something written on the edge there.
10:42Could that mean that this silver coin may date back to the 1600s or even earlier?
10:49We've been looking for silver in the Money Pit a long time.
10:51And based on what Dr. Spooner has shown us, there is a bunch of silver up there somewhere.
10:57Could be a whole bunch of that somewhere, right?
10:58And I should run that back to the lab.
11:00I agree.
11:01Good find, Katya.
11:05Later that day...
11:08Is there a vault below here or something?
11:11This could tell us.
11:13Rick, Marty, Craig, and other members of the team arrive at the man-made depression on Lot 8,
11:19dubbed the Stone Cradle.
11:23Laird, as long as he's in that square area, he can drill multiple holes.
11:27Oh, yeah, absolutely.
11:28In our world, it's transitioned from archaeology to geology.
11:31So when you bring it up, we'll get the sample.
11:34Start your engines.
11:36Laird is allowing the team to punch a three-foot hole in the bottom of the cradle with a hammer
11:41drill
11:42to collect new soil samples, and look for evidence of man-made workings buried deeper below.
11:50Well, it's going.
11:51There he goes.
11:54What if we just don't even encounter the bedrock at all?
11:57Well, that would tend to mean something.
11:59And whatever might be interesting is deeper yet.
12:02That went down quite far.
12:04It doesn't seem like it's bedrock.
12:05Well, we're about to find out.
12:08Trade spots.
12:10And I'll take that sample.
12:16It's pretty gritty.
12:20That's enough?
12:21But look at the color in that.
12:24It doesn't look like bedrock to me.
12:26Okay.
12:27Well, let's drill a boulder that has slate and see how it compares.
12:30Yeah, let's see what the difference is, and we can see what the cuttings look like,
12:33and the penetration rate, and all that stuff.
12:35In order to be sure that they have not drilled through the slate bedrock beneath the cradle
12:40feature, the team will now drill into a nearby boulder that is also composed of slate.
12:47This will allow them to see if the drill experiences the same kind of resistance.
12:58It's a little bit harder.
12:59It's kind of what I thought.
13:02That's not bedrock.
13:03No.
13:06I bet you the bit's heating up a lot more than it did as well.
13:09Yeah, I wouldn't touch that bit.
13:11The conclusion has to be that it's not on bedrock.
13:15Is there a feature or a void or a tunnel or a shaft underneath the cradle or close by?
13:23Okay, here's what we can be certain of.
13:25We're not done with this.
13:27I agree.
13:28Not that we get an answer.
13:30Of all the frustrating archaeological weights we have had to endure, this one is the most
13:37aggravating.
13:38I thought by the end of this year we would have figured it out, but we haven't.
13:42The archaeologists are incredibly protective of the site for good reasons, but I would really
13:48like to know what's at the bottom of it, because I know there's a good chance of something really
13:52interesting.
13:54Well, I think it's good that it gives us a little bit of time to actually do some research on
13:57this as well, and we certainly know it's purposeful and extremely significant.
14:02Well, let's run with that.
14:03In the meantime, we will leave you to it for now.
14:06Thanks.
14:07Okay, let's go.
14:08Okay.
14:09Thanks.
14:09Thank you guys.
14:15Watch your back.
14:17I'm going to shake Dylan.
14:18Just watch yourself.
14:19While the dig proceeds in the MP1 chat.
14:23Welcome back to the lab, everybody.
14:26Emma's ready with some data.
14:27Members of the team meet to receive a scientific report on the believed silver coin found near
14:34the money pit area.
14:36Well, right off the bat, I'm just going to confirm that it is silver.
14:39Solid silver.
14:41It's a silver alloy.
14:43What did you get?
14:44What percent?
14:4687%.
14:47Oh, that's good enough for me.
14:49Yeah.
14:50That's a silver coin.
14:51It's a silver coin.
14:52Yeah.
14:53What do you make of that?
14:54It is very worn.
14:56It took a lot of effort to get a good image in the CT scan.
15:00What you're seeing on the screen right now is all that remains on the coin.
15:05So you have the back of the head, which is very clearly remaining.
15:11You have a very clear MVS and then some lettering over here.
15:17Wow.
15:18Which is great for identification.
15:20So this is an overlay of the CT image on top of the coin that I found on the coin
15:26database.
15:27Oh, yes.
15:28You can certainly see that.
15:30Mm-hmm.
15:31And I got an exact match with the sixpence William III.
15:37Wow.
15:38Really?
15:38So it's English.
15:40That's amazing.
15:41Yeah.
15:43And that all aligns with this coin right there.
15:47And you can see the ribbon.
15:49Perfectly.
15:49Yeah.
15:50Oh, yeah.
15:51Now that you show that, I can see it right in the coin.
15:54Yeah.
15:56Cool.
15:57What date are you putting on this?
15:59So the date range is 1697 to 1701.
16:04Oh.
16:09What date are you putting on this?
16:11So the date range is 1697 to 1701.
16:16Wow.
16:17It's so significant.
16:19That is a full hundred years before discovery of the money pit.
16:23Yeah.
16:24I think it's great.
16:24Yeah.
16:25In the lab, Emma has confirmed that a silver coin found in the Dunfield spoils is more than three centuries
16:32old.
16:34Common people weren't carrying silver.
16:36So this probably wasn't a worker?
16:37No.
16:38Somebody of means, right?
16:40Yeah.
16:41A hundred years before the money pit was discovered is a heck of a long time.
16:46A very long time.
16:47That's a big deal.
16:48Mm-hmm.
16:49These late 1600 dates lead you one of two places.
16:53Either that's the time of the depositor or searchers that were searching before the money pit was discovered.
16:59Bottom line, this is a silver coin and I would call it a piece of treasure.
17:03I think it's an incredibly important discovery.
17:05But just like almost everything we've found all over the island continues to provide partial answers and then pose a
17:13lot more questions.
17:14We found a silver treasure coin in money pit spoils on Oak Island.
17:20It's treasure from the money pit spoils.
17:23It's silver.
17:23It's, it's, it's ours.
17:27It's the end of the year and we were hoping to find more coins or a chest or a keg
17:33full of the Portuguese treasure coins.
17:35But it validates the reason why we're here.
17:38I'm not willing to give up on solving the mystery.
17:41I mean, we say it all the time, sempre avanti, you, you do not stop.
17:47Very cool.
17:48A big well done to everybody involved.
17:51All right, let's go.
17:52See you later.
17:53No problem.
17:57As a new day begins on Oak Island.
18:01Guys.
18:02Hey guys.
18:02The two gentlemen we want to see.
18:04Where are we, Hadeep?
18:06So we're about at 195 depth.
18:08Good stuff.
18:09195.
18:10Got it.
18:10Rick and other members of the team monitor the progress of the MP1 shaft, which has now reached the solution
18:18channel.
18:20Just hoping to find one thing.
18:23We're working on it.
18:24We'll keep you updated.
18:27Appreciate it.
18:28Yes, sir.
18:31Go over there and find something.
18:34No.
18:36A lot of muck and mud.
18:39Got something?
18:43A signal right there.
18:53It's in here.
18:54Whatever it is.
18:56It's like a heavy chunk of metal.
18:58Yeah.
18:59Don't know what it is until it's washed off.
19:00So what's it?
19:02This is a piece of twisted metal from the MP1 spoils at the moment.
19:08Boom.
19:09When it goes back to the lab, maybe Emma runs scans and tell us it's something completely different.
19:17There's a lot of stuff caped on it for sure.
19:20This could be some kind of bladed tool because I see a curve on it.
19:25See if the other guys can make head and the tails of it.
19:29It's very heavy.
19:31Whatever it is, it's been down there a long time.
19:34This is really, really hard.
19:36It's been on there for a long time.
19:38Let's bag it, Terry.
19:40I don't know what it is, but it certainly has the appearance of being old.
19:46Hey, got another load waiting for us.
19:48Let's find some more.
19:57Yeah, that is strange.
19:59Go in, Billy.
20:00Yep.
20:06Check this out.
20:07I watch it and I see this stain.
20:10Oh, yeah.
20:11What do you think it is?
20:12That sure looks like exotic wood.
20:15Why?
20:16Why did you say it?
20:17The color's on it.
20:18Really?
20:19That's a curve.
20:20That shouldn't be here.
20:21Nope.
20:23This is strange.
20:24This linearity and that staining.
20:26Could be palm tree.
20:29Yeah, we don't know where that's from.
20:31I mean, we're on an island and we know people have traveled from a long way away to this island
20:36by boat.
20:37Yeah, it'd be really cool if you're right, Gary.
20:39I come from 200 feet in the Money Pit.
20:41That's incredible.
20:44This is wood from the bottom of the solution channel.
20:47And wood should not be at this depth unless it were pushed down from above.
20:54Get a bag, Peter.
20:55Put it in the bag.
20:56We need to talk to experts.
20:58If this is an exotic wood, it would lend credence to an old world ship coming to the new world.
21:07All right, let's take a look at this.
21:09Let's get stuck in.
21:12The year has come to an end.
21:13We're within a few hammer grabs of being done.
21:16And I hope we find the one thing or solve the mystery or find the treasure.
21:21I still have every fiber of my being believes that Oak Island is real.
21:27The mystery is real.
21:28I want to know what happened here.
21:34A lot of rounded stuff.
21:42No solid hits.
21:44We're probably getting very close.
21:46To the bottom.
21:47Yeah.
21:50Hey, guys.
21:51Hey.
21:51How you doing?
21:52We're on bedrock bottom of the hole.
21:56Okay.
21:57What are the final numbers?
21:59210.
22:00Okay.
22:03We gave it a good shot, man.
22:05We did.
22:05100% we did.
22:09We should all be quite proud of what we all did.
22:12Oh, yeah.
22:14I love the fact that the Money Pit, even though it denies us answers, at the end of the day,
22:21we walk away with our heads hella high.
22:24Thanks, guys.
22:25Appreciate it.
22:26Yep.
22:29Sometimes you get the ball across the goal line and sometimes you don't.
22:33But we did learn some things and we made some discoveries, which may be impactful as we delve into them.
22:41You can't deny the science.
22:43There is silver at depth down in the solution channel.
22:47I'm not willing to give up till we find it.
22:53Hello.
22:54Hey, Marty.
22:55Hey, Rick.
22:56What's going on?
22:58You know, this is the last caisson.
23:01Yeah.
23:02Good news is that it was a technical success.
23:06The concept of the treasure having fallen into depth, everything we encountered would have permitted that to happen.
23:13There's no question about that.
23:15Yeah.
23:15And we got down.
23:16And we got down to 10.
23:17We bottomed out.
23:18And unfortunately, we didn't find it.
23:22Well, you know, Rick, I agree.
23:24It sounds like proof of concept is there.
23:27We know it can happen.
23:28We know it can happen.
23:28But we missed.
23:29And we were both hoping for the one thing being found here and that one thing being distinctly treasure.
24:04Right.
24:06And we'll let him present his idea.
24:09Right.
24:17And we'll let him present his idea and I think you'll like it.
24:24Hello, Marty.
24:26I think a good place to start is with this heat map that Steve made some time ago to update
24:32it for this year's efforts.
24:33The idea is to say, where are the spots we have found artifacts?
24:40Earlier this year, surveyor Steve Guptill created a so-called heat map.
24:45It illustrates where the team has made their most significant discoveries, noting their approximate dates of origin by using different
24:53colors.
24:55So far, we have found about 800 artifacts island wide.
24:58Laird is his own team.
24:59They find hundreds more than that.
25:00We found about 1,200 artifacts this year.
25:02And then let me go over the hot areas.
25:05Most of the artifacts that you see are from the last two years.
25:08If it's in the 1700s, I've been clicking orange.
25:12If it's earlier than that, I click pink.
25:15Blue is 1800s to now.
25:17Yeah.
25:18Let me turn off every color except pink.
25:21Wow.
25:23There's an overwhelming amount of evidence that shows that people were here earlier than we originally believed.
25:30It's almost indisputable that there was island wide activity to a fairly large scale.
25:38That's significant, is it not?
25:40It is significant.
25:41Yeah.
25:42We just need to know who and why and when.
25:45Yeah.
25:46And what they were doing.
25:47Yeah.
25:48Mm-hmm.
25:49Well, we also know that the Lot 8 boulder was moved.
25:51And looking up there on the heat map, that would have had to be work that was done earlier.
25:57That's a huge anomaly.
25:59That's a great segue to go to Lot 8.
26:01And to me, this boulder came out of nowhere this year.
26:05Something rather significant had to happen here.
26:08Laird, is there anything like it in Nova Scotia that you know of?
26:11I haven't found anything like it in North America.
26:14I think it's much older.
26:16I would not be surprised if it got us into the 1,200 range.
26:21The team was stunned to discover a 40,000-pound boulder on Lot 8 this year that was covering the
26:27Cradle of Stones and a potential shaft deeper below it.
26:32However, prior to that, they had found two curious artifacts on the lot.
26:37One, a lead bag seal that may date back some 700 years.
26:42And the other was a copper artifact with symbols that may be connected to the Knights Templar.
26:49Well, and Rick, you've got some light that you can shed on the Lot 8 boulder from that trip to
26:53the Azores.
26:53Yes, we wanted to find if there is some evidence that the Templars or associated groups in the 1300s needed
27:03to safeguard a treasure via the Azores prior to coming to Oak Island.
27:09We went to a megalithic site, and on the way up the hill, I just noticed a huge stone, but
27:16it had slots carved into it.
27:18And to me, it was so similar to the spacing in the Lot 8 boulder.
27:26That rock has a big void, to me, purposely built underneath it.
27:32Which brings me to what Scott did yesterday.
27:35So yesterday, we went out and got a large hammer drill, three-foot-long Corbett, and when we drilled in
27:40there, we didn't find bedrock.
27:43Okay, well, here's what's certain. There's a lot more work to do on this boulder on Lot 8, including digging
27:50underneath it.
27:51There still could be a tunnel. There could be a shaft.
27:54But there could be treasure.
27:55There could be treasure, Gary.
27:57We need to completely eliminate any question as to what might have been done underneath that boulder.
28:03But let's shift over to Lot 5, which has been hugely significant.
28:07So we have this feature, which became two features, which became three features.
28:13This year, the team made a number of new discoveries in the rounded stone foundation near the shore on Lot
28:195,
28:20that suggest it was occupied by different groups over different periods prior to the discovery of the Money Pit.
28:27These include a folded coin, meant to represent a religious symbol of protection that may be more than 300 years
28:36old.
28:37They also found a decorative lead artifact that may date back more than 700 years.
28:44And in just the last month, they began investigating what was previously thought to be a modern well just a
28:51few yards away.
28:53But after digging next to it, they discovered evidence that it is a much larger feature and may be connected
29:00to the rounded foundation.
29:03And my understanding there, it wasn't just a domicile, something different than that.
29:08Correct.
29:09We've always looked for the camp.
29:11If there was this tremendous activity at the Money Pit, it would have taken men and animals and support structures
29:18and all kinds of stuff.
29:20And maybe Lot 5 is what we've been looking for.
29:22We have evidence here that substantiates that.
29:25And we have possibly found a road that might be a way to move the treasure here on Oak Island,
29:32the Sand Road.
29:33And again, it leads us down a path of discovery in the swamp.
29:38The Sand Road potentially changes the whole island.
29:43While excavating the western side of the swamp...
29:46Still sandy.
29:47The team was surprised to uncover a sand-covered cobblestone road that was lined with eight-sided wooden survey stakes.
29:55And as they kept exposing the mysterious feature, they found signs that it may run through the center of the
30:03island toward Lot 5,
30:05as well as through the swamp toward the believed Portuguese stone road.
30:12I find the Sand Road really interesting now.
30:14We were always looking for a connection between the Money Pit and Lot 5.
30:19And perhaps the Sand Road is the connection.
30:22That it could lead literally to a place where treasure's deposited.
30:29Good. Excellent.
30:34The Sand Road could lead literally to a place where treasure's deposited.
30:40Exactly.
30:41I love this little ox shoe that was found along that path.
30:45I only mean one thing, and that's all in it.
30:48We thought that the Portuguese stone road that we call it was a big job.
30:52Well, you know, look at the length of this thing.
30:55They might be the same thing.
30:56Right.
30:57This Sand Road is a continuation of Center Road.
31:00That means that it's there much earlier than we first thought.
31:04Agreed.
31:04And so we have these in front of us are what we believe to be a hand cannon.
31:11And four stone shots.
31:13These two are from previous years.
31:15They're both from the Azores.
31:17But then this year we find two more.
31:19Actually, Derek found them on the wash plant.
31:22And here's the ultimate point.
31:24No country significant was using them after about 1450.
31:28So what are those doing on Oak Island?
31:30It really, I think, is one of the most concrete dates we have.
31:35When the team first uncovered a section of the Sand Road in the swamp this year...
31:40Look at that.
31:41...they also found part of an early firearm known as a hand cannon.
31:46But that is unusual.
31:48It was a curious find.
31:50Given that they have now also discovered four pieces of stone shot.
31:55Three of which were unearthed in the Money Pit area.
31:58It's a very interesting piece.
32:00And during the team's recent trip to the Azores Islands...
32:04The hand cannon were common in the 1300s, yes.
32:08Portuguese archaeologist Tiago Rodriguez affirmed that these artifacts may not only date back to the 14th century,
32:16but could also be of Portuguese origin.
32:20Is this enough to prove a pre-Columbian voyage?
32:24No, but it's a good indication.
32:26And a good sign of treasure because you'd need guns and ammo.
32:30If you're putting a large treasure in the Money Pit.
32:33Yeah.
32:34And so finally, conceptually, we arrive at the Money Pit.
32:39We did a lot of work there.
32:41And what got us very excited is this right here.
32:44This is the fabled Pit Blado coin.
32:49So this coin turns out to be a 1369 to 1371 Portuguese coin.
32:56Extremely rare and very valuable.
33:00And of course, that got us all really excited, including me, who was fixed on treasure more than story.
33:07A chest of these would be worth just that.
33:09It would be worth an enormous fortune.
33:11And it did, apparently, come out of the Money Pit.
33:14So we got real excited about this.
33:16And then we chased the theory of, all right, there was a treasure in the Money Pit, and the treasure
33:23fell into the solution channel.
33:25And scientific evidence to show that it's still down there.
33:28Exactly.
33:29So it got us all enthused, and we were able to get canisters down into the solution channel.
33:34Yeah.
33:34We found lots of things that shouldn't have been in the solution channel.
33:38My analysis of that is that it was proof of concept and proves the theory that stuff could fall down
33:44in there.
33:45We weren't successful in finding the treasure.
33:48But we all still think it's here because of your work, Ian and Dr. Fred, because of the metals in
33:53the water.
33:54Mm-hmm.
33:54I know you have a potentially new method that we could zero in and maybe find the treasure.
34:00Yep.
34:01Can you bring the group up to speed on that?
34:03Yeah.
34:05A little while ago, Dr. Michael suggested we're having problems with water.
34:10Water moves around, gets diluted.
34:12So Fred suggests, why don't we look at wood?
34:14Because it has the ability to soak up metal.
34:17Just like a water filter would soak up metal from water.
34:20And the wood's much better at soaking up metals than water.
34:23And I think we just need to do more work with the wood.
34:26The wood's at its early stages.
34:28And we got the data back, results from like 15 sort of random samples.
34:34So if you've just done the tests now, where did you get the wood to test?
34:38We got it from the outside of logs and planks that were in various tunnels and shafts throughout the money
34:45pit.
34:46And something did show up in shaft 2A, which is, I think, the unknown shaft.
34:56We're digging up the first ever searcher shaft on Oak Island.
34:59In 2024, the Oak Island team began uncovering a feature that they believed to be an early 19th century searcher
35:08shaft known as Shaft 2.
35:11Which, according to historical records, was located 14 feet southeast of the original money pit.
35:17I tend to think it's two different shafts.
35:21However, during the excavation, they discovered another undocumented shaft, some 10 feet to the northeast, that they dubbed Shaft 2A.
35:31This made them wonder whether they found an old shaft built by treasure hunters or perhaps treasure depositors.
35:40So in Shaft 2A, the wood sample from Shaft 2A, we had the highest amount of silver we've ever seen.
35:47And also, I think, the third highest level of gold.
36:02Great.
36:06There you go.
36:07Well, that's pretty exciting, right?
36:08It's another direct indication of treasure, isn't it?
36:11With that result, if we have this kind of silver, the highest silver we've seen in something like 2A, that
36:16could mean that there's silver very, very close to where it is.
36:20That wood is.
36:22After testing numerous samples of wood that the team has unearthed in the money pit area over the years,
36:29Dr. Spooner has found new evidence of buried silver in the mysterious shaft known as 2A,
36:36a structure located more than 30 feet northeast of where they detected precious metals in the solution channel.
36:46Dr. Spooner, how do you reconcile the silver that we're finding in the wood from 2A and the silver that
36:53we're finding in the solution channel?
36:55Maybe what we're looking at here is a variety of sources.
37:00Or multiple deposits.
37:02Yep.
37:03This is getting interesting.
37:04Multiple treasures.
37:05There's a possibility, sure.
37:07Wow.
37:09What I'm proposing is we take a much more detailed look at metals in the wood.
37:14Dr. Spooner's latest report perhaps proves the worthiness of the idea of testing the wood in several of the shafts.
37:21It certainly introduces new possibilities that we're chasing after multiple treasures in Oak Island.
37:27This is pretty much a no-brainer. Let's continue this.
37:30Yep.
37:31So, yes, proceed, please. Tell us where the treasure is. We're ready.
37:35Do my best.
37:39Well, I just think it's a very productive year. We've had some major finds, the boulder on Lot 8, the
37:46sand road in the swamp.
37:47Right.
37:48It just seems like Oak Island has its secrets and we've uncovered some.
37:52Yeah.
37:53So, I want to thank you and I think we had a great year.
37:56Yep.
37:56So, I thought a long time about how I would like to close here today.
38:01And I thought a good way to do that might be to use a symbol.
38:05Gary, it's right here in me top pocket.
38:08Top pocket find.
38:10Yeah, top pocket find.
38:11And, uh, it's this.
38:16This is one ounce of pure gold. It appropriately has the Canadian maple leaf on it.
38:21And here's the pure gold I would like to find.
38:24And we have found pure gold here from the people of Canada, from the people of Nova Scotia, and certainly
38:30the people in this room.
38:32And if we are moving caissons around next year, instead of these poker chips, we're going to move this maple
38:38leaf around to decide where to dig.
38:40And hopefully find the treasure.
38:43Yeah.
38:44Yep.
38:46It goes without saying how important you have all become to me.
38:52We're a family.
38:55Because the experience here is only as wonderful as it is because of each and every one of you.
39:01Without you, without each of you, these past years of my life would have been far less rich.
39:11The treasure in this story are like brothers. They're together, right?
39:18But the real treasure, really, is each and every one of you.
39:24This is the true treasure in life that we share now.
39:29100%.
39:30We are very grateful to be a part of your passion and share it with you.
39:36We would not be here if you did not share your dream, not only with us, but the world.
39:46Yeah.
39:47Yeah, well said.
39:48I agree.
39:49Absolutely.
39:50Yep.
39:51The thank you that Craig expressed, the thank you that Marty expressed, the thank you that
39:54I'm expressing is heartfelt, it is genuine, and it is important.
39:59Emiliano, why don't you close out the day?
40:03Grazie mille.
40:05Perfecto.
40:10Okay.
40:11Let's go.
40:12Thank you all.
40:13Thanks, everybody.
40:15After you.
40:15The year on Oak Island has come to an end.
40:19Her legendary secrets remain unknown.
40:22Look at the enormity of the finds.
40:24The owner, thanks.
40:25Look at the early dates.
40:27Thanks, Mark.
40:28We have written, maybe not the answer to the Oak Island mystery, but we have added chapters
40:33upon chapters of information.
40:36Goodbye, all.
40:37However, Rick, Marty, Craig, and their team have proved one thing.
40:43The quest for answers to this 231-year-old mystery is well worth the pursuit.
40:50My whole life I've been curious about things, very, very curious about things.
40:54It gets me in trouble sometimes.
40:55Oh, it's another good year.
40:57Yep.
40:57Always bittersweet, isn't it?
40:59How can we have found so many inexplicable things in one year?
41:02So there's many reasons that would make me come back here to find this treasure.
41:07We have to be close to the end game, don't we?
41:11So far, they have found more than 2,000 artifacts.
41:16And numerous man-made structures predating the discovery of the Money Pit.
41:22Some by as much as 800 years.
41:25And they have obtained mounting scientific evidence that treasure really may lie buried all across the island.
41:36So, next year, when they return, they will build upon all they have learned and revealed to solve the mystery.
41:48And like a year where we said, you know what?
41:52We did it.
41:53That moment has not come.
41:55But that is still my hope.
41:57I won't relent.
41:58I...
41:59Quite stubborn that way.
42:00I...
42:00...
42:02...
42:04...
42:05...
42:05You
