00:00I'm here at the New York City downtown Skyport where Joby is about to land one
00:06of the first ever test flights of an electric sky taxi. Basically like a
00:10giant drone, but it does have a pilot. No passengers right now. It's flying in
00:15from JFK to the seaport, 200 miles an hour, so a lot faster than say taking an
00:22Uber. They are partnering by the way with Uber and Delta to try and make this
00:26sort of a seamless trip from the airport to the city, but this is sort of, you
00:33know, this is a proof of concept. The company is Joby. They've been around for a
00:37few years. Port authorities trying to accelerate clean transportation and
00:42some alternatives like this. We've no idea how much a flight will cost, but we're
00:48here for the excitement. See how it flies, how quiet it is compared to say a
00:53helicopter. All that more. So let's let's check it out.
01:07All right, so there you have it. The first first ever air taxi, electric air
01:12taxi point to point flight from JFK to right here behind me. We saw it take off,
01:19come back, take off again, do some some exercises, six propellers on this thing,
01:25an incredible control system that matches what's in the F-35 jet fighter. So
01:30complex stuff. Just spoke to Buddy, the pilot, and he says it really, the whole
01:36system really makes it easy to fly because he's kind of controlling the
01:40acceleration, deceleration, and the altitude, and then really telling the system
01:45everything he wants it to do. And it kind of just does it, including, you know,
01:49those propellers folding. So right now they're in sort of takeoff position. They
01:53fold forward, becomes more like an airplane. Really, really a wild thing to see. And
02:00the future of commuting, they said by next year, we could be seeing these guys in the
02:06sky. And by the way, really quiet. The loudest is when it's taking off and landing. But
02:12otherwise, flying overhead, you barely hear it. Nothing like a helicopter. So
02:17stick with TechRadar.com for more amazing cutting edge technology just like this.
