This simple mod adds a beacon above your bones when you die. The beacon will remove itself after two minutes, so best not dilly dally around while trying to recover your stuff.

00:01Welcome back to the Luanty mod review. Today we are looking at Light Dead.
00:07And this mod adds a beacon of sorts over dead bones.
00:12Now, you do have to die with this mod enabled in order for this beacon to appear.
00:18It doesn't look through existing, you know, nodes in worlds to see if there's...
00:27Man, I can't get back up to see if there's any bones sitting around to put a beacon on top
00:32of.
00:33So, oh, unfortunately, it looks like my bones were destroyed.
00:37I'm just going to let myself die here, suffocate to death in the water, so we can demonstrate how this
00:45works.
00:47So as you see, we're slowly dying. Actually, we haven't even started to die yet.
00:50We're still just perfectly fine. Now we're finally starting to die.
00:54Okay, and just about dead. There we go.
00:57I don't know why all my items are being thrown. It's probably because I'm underwater or something silly.
01:02And there we have it, another beacon.
01:05Now I'm going to follow the light and hope we can find our bones.
01:12Now, before you start worrying that this is going to pollute the world with these beacons...
01:21Oh, hey, perfect timing.
01:22They do...
01:26Despawn...
01:27Despawn is really not the right word.
01:29But they do disappear.
01:31I don't know, after two minutes, they will go away.
01:34Now, of course, the map block has to update on the client for that to be reflected, which is why
01:39we're still seeing that one up here.
01:42But yeah, if I make my way back down...
01:46Let me go get my items here.
01:48Now, it is worth noting...
01:50I don't know if it actually is worth noting, but we're going to note it anyways, because that's what we
01:53do on this channel.
01:55Now, these beacons, you actually cannot interact with.
01:59So if I turn on the debug, you'll notice that...
02:02See here, I'm putting in default stone.
02:05This does not show anything up.
02:06I can actually interact with items behind this, because it's not pointable.
02:15I thought...
02:17Oh yeah, there we go.
02:18It does cause damage.
02:19So, yeah, probably don't stand in the beacon, because it will damage you.
02:25I'm not sure what the exact reasoning behind that is, but...
02:29Maybe it's to deter people from trying to...
02:35Collect them? I don't know.
02:37Oh, you can see the map is just not updated.
02:41Out there, there's some old ones from one of my testing phases.
02:47Now, because this beacon is not pointable, you can't break it, and therefore you can't get free Mieslite portions, which
02:55is nice.
02:56I was a little worried about that going in.
02:59I was like, oh, can you just get free items by killing yourself?
03:02No, you cannot.
03:04So we are going to just make ourselves a nice little tower here, just so I can jump off and
03:09die.
03:09Okay, to demonstrate...
03:11There we go, it should be high enough, right?
03:14Perfect.
03:18Unfortunately, I have a ways to go.
03:22But, we know the safe way down is to go through here, and then to there.
03:27And then, here's our tower, there's our beacon.
03:30Below the beacon will be our bones.
03:33Of course, these will be visible to anybody on a server when they get within range.
03:42So, there is that.
03:45One thing I didn't check, and I should have.
03:47What if there's something solid on top of you when you die?
03:52Will it still put the lights through?
03:55I need to get through here.
03:57Hey, hey, there my bones are.
03:58See, so bones do still work as bones.
04:00Something with being in water made them not work, which I don't understand.
04:07So, that sounds like it's time for a test.
04:11So, let's put some dirt here, because you want not.
04:18And then, let's go down here and stand below the dirt.
04:22Perfect.
04:23Now, of course, my bones won't hold any items, but that's fine.
04:26And then, we'll just use the magic of editing to die right now.
04:31Hey, perfect timing.
04:34Okay, now, I'm going to go ahead and go home.
04:39Hmm, all right, let's check this out.
04:42It looks like the light went through.
04:45But did it replace the dirt?
04:47That's the real question.
04:48Oh, it's even through a tree.
04:49Did it replace the tree?
04:50Wait, this could get messy, because when I looked at the code, it's not, like, saving which nodes it's replacing.
04:58So, it's just punching a hole through the world if it's replacing the node.
05:01It did replace the node.
05:04Interesting.
05:05So, if you were to die in a cave, you would punch a hole through the earth above the cave.
05:15That may or may not be a thing you want, but that is a thing that would happen.
05:20So, something to be aware of using this mod.
05:23That's really all the mod does.
05:25It just adds this beacon, 200 nodes above your death position, and after two minutes, it will go away.
05:35Okay, now, it is done with node timers.
05:38I do believe they persist after world restarts, so they should work all the time.
05:47If they don't, there's really nothing you can do about it, because, again, you can't point to it, so you
05:51can't manually break it.
05:54But, yeah, that's going to be it.
05:55Also, as you noticed, breaking the bones doesn't make the beacon disappear, so you do have to sit the full
06:00two minutes before it goes away.
06:01Obviously, breaking the bones will not make that happen sooner.
06:07So, that is worth knowing as well.
06:10Anyway, if you liked the mod, you can get it on the content database in-game.
06:14Just search for Light's Dead.
06:15Or, if you want to download it old-school way, I'll have all those links on my website, which will
06:19be linked in the video description below.
06:21Thanks for watching, and I will see you next time.
06:24Are you looking for custom models to bring your mod to life?
06:27I can create static or animated meshes for your project.
06:31Or, maybe you need some help with code, textures, or voice talent.
06:34As it so happens, I'm in the freelance business.
06:37If it relates to Luanti, I'd be happy to try and help you out.
06:41Together, we can make the next great Luanti mod.
