00:06Hey, Hank, can you dig me a hole right here?
00:09Today, our niece and nephew, Hank and Nell,
00:13my little brother Jesse, and his wife, Lauren,
00:15are going to come over.
00:16The kids will actually eat fresh vegetables
00:19if they pull them out of dirt first.
00:21Well, you're going to want to sit down.
00:23We got something to tell you.
00:24Are y'all OK?
00:25We bought a house.
00:27What?
00:28Yeah.
00:28Where?
00:29What house?
00:30In Ellisville.
00:30You want to see pictures?
00:32Yeah.
00:32OK.
00:33It needs some work.
00:34The house is not great.
00:36The house is not great.
00:37It's ugly.
00:38What brought this home?
00:40Where are we growing our house?
00:41Hold on.
00:42Are you pregnant?
00:45Good morning.
00:46Just another day of making our favorite small town better.
00:49Erin, we got to go, babe.
00:51Love you, girls.
00:51Y'all have fun.
00:52Ben, let's go.
00:53You believe we fixed up over 100 houses in Laurel?
00:55I don't know what's going to go wrong today.
00:57I'm sure something.
00:59Anytime we start a new house, we don't know how it's going to go.
01:01Girl, the bat just flew through here.
01:03That's not good.
01:05No way.
01:06They're about to see the house for the first time.
01:08This is the best part.
01:09Oh, my God.
01:11Are you serious right now?
01:12It is perfect.
01:13Every day is different when you're renovating houses in Laurel, Mississippi.
01:24Are you pregnant?
01:26We are.
01:27I knew you were pregnant.
01:29There's going to be another baby.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Oh, my gosh.
01:33You're pregnant.
01:34Yeah.
01:34You've listed the green house.
01:36Mm-hmm.
01:36And you are under contract.
01:38Mm-hmm.
01:38Yeah.
01:38You're talking about the one over by Katie and Chris's house?
01:41Where we saw y'all the other day?
01:43Hey, what are y'all doing?
01:45We're looking at a house.
01:47We'll tell y'all about it later.
01:49Did y'all just go look at it the one time?
01:51Yeah.
01:52Yeah.
01:52It was a great price.
01:53We got it for $200,000.
01:55Mm-hmm.
01:55We bought it because it has six acres.
01:58It has a huge kitchen.
01:59It has a pool.
02:00It has a basement.
02:02It needs a lot of love.
02:04Are you just going to move into it?
02:05We're going to do renovations.
02:07Has your house sold?
02:08No.
02:08That's yeah.
02:09We just put it on the market.
02:10Y'all, that was really, like, impulsive to buy a house before your other one sells.
02:16No need to fear.
02:17You look a little worried.
02:19We're going to be good.
02:19Their life is just a completely different thing than it was when we did the little green cottage.
02:26Welcome to the Napier house.
02:28Hey!
02:29Woo-hoo!
02:31Have you thought about that?
02:32That was the last Christmas and we didn't know it.
02:35We definitely have sweet memories there.
02:38You're just not as sentimental as we are, I guess.
02:41Yep.
02:43There will be more memories made at the new house.
02:47I just feel some, like, sadness because Ellisville is not two blocks away.
02:53It's a 15 minute drive to that house?
02:5515 minutes.
02:5615 minutes.
02:57Yeah.
02:57I love that house.
02:58We do too.
02:59But we're also outgrowing it, looking for more space.
03:03How big's the house?
03:04What's going on here?
03:04Same amount of bedrooms, but just more room in general.
03:07We love the basement.
03:08Let's play the last five years.
03:12They got married, bought a house.
03:15Oh my God!
03:18Oh, it looks so good!
03:20Dang!
03:20They got pregnant.
03:22They got pregnant again.
03:24They bought a small business.
03:27They frame shop in town.
03:30It's been four years.
03:31Yeah.
03:31And since then we have moved locations to a new building downtown.
03:35We now know got pregnant again, bought a new house, and listed their house.
03:40That's a lot.
03:42You're dramatic.
03:43I'm not being dramatic.
03:44We're going to try and do it ourselves.
03:46We're trying to be thrifty.
03:47We'll move in as is, and we probably won't do half the things before the baby comes.
03:53We love some paint ideas.
03:56I can definitely help.
03:57Kitchen ideas.
03:58We kind of want to do it.
03:59Yeah, we'll do it ourselves.
04:00All right.
04:01It's going to be good.
04:02We're excited.
04:04I am excited, but I am also nervous.
04:07So are we.
04:08Okay, good.
04:09That's what I needed to hear.
04:11Maybe if we talked about ideas and walked through the house with them,
04:16pumped them up about what we could offer, what we could bring to the table,
04:21that might soften them on this DIY thing they're so
04:25crazy obsessed with trying right now at the worst time possible.
04:32We want them to let us do this house, but they're not asking anybody to help do anything.
04:38I just want to help in some way.
04:40You can't be actively involved in helping them unless they ask for it.
04:44That is hard for you.
04:45But we're all like, dude, you need help.
04:52This weather was so crazy.
04:55Look at the paint.
04:56Holy smokes, y'all.
04:58The paint looks so good.
05:01You didn't even know if you was in the right house or not, did you?
05:02No.
05:03You got time.
05:04What all have you done inside?
05:06Blood room area.
05:08This looks special.
05:10Yeah.
05:11There's no wood floors in here.
05:12There's not wood underneath.
05:14It's all.
05:14No, we looked at it.
05:15It's just a plywood.
05:17We love the size.
05:18It's huge kitchen.
05:20That was a big selling point about the house.
05:22We would just like some updates.
05:23So how thrifty are we wanting to be?
05:26Like, do you want to use the cabinets that are here?
05:28Do you want to reface them?
05:29I'm okay to be thrifty elsewhere to have a better looking kitchen.
05:34We spend a lot of time in here.
05:36This, I think it's got to go because you've said you wish you could have a big island, right?
05:40There's plenty of room for that as long as that's not there.
05:43So if you lost that, you could open up a case opening here.
05:48You would need to push the ductwork up into the attic and then you would need like a laminated
05:52beam because you're going to have to have big support right here.
05:55Okay.
05:56But then we would build a huge island right here.
05:59I love that.
06:01You could have the fridge.
06:02These are great ideas.
06:03In the corner over there.
06:04The range would kind of shift.
06:05I like that.
06:06But you could have another oven in the island.
06:08You bake more than anybody I know.
06:10We're cooking family.
06:12And then as far as countertops.
06:14We loved our granite countertops at the previous home.
06:17I would love something.
06:18Have you ever seen green quartzite?
06:20No.
06:20Because I have been dying.
06:21But I love green.
06:24Oh, gosh.
06:26That's pretty.
06:27That's so you.
06:28I love it.
06:29They're kind of expensive though.
06:30So we don't have to do that.
06:31That would be a great choice.
06:32We could be thrifty elsewhere.
06:34I think a backslash that's classic but makes some kind of statement.
06:39Like you could do a two-tone field tile checkerboard pattern where it's like a terracotta and cream.
06:45If we went with like a cream color on the cabinetry.
06:48A deep ecru maybe if you wanted to have a little more color so it's not too white.
06:53I think you got to get rid of the floor.
06:55Yeah.
06:55I hate the floor.
06:56Rats of really cool sheet vinyl would be your super budget choice.
07:02Love that.
07:02Or you could tile in here and do something that's like a salteo colored hex tile I think would be
07:08really pretty.
07:09That would be so easy to clean too.
07:11The dishwasher works so we're going to keep that.
07:13Uh huh.
07:14We could look for appliances that are not super expensive because again they're not the star of the show.
07:19I'm fine with the little scratch and dent.
07:21So then you're going to be kind of sharing the space with the dining room.
07:24If you deleted the door and the window it would allow for a bigger dining room table.
07:31You could just really use the dining room though.
07:33And then lighting, paint.
07:35You got to refinish the floors though.
07:36Do you know how to refinish floors?
07:38I was just going to get on the internet and watch a video.
07:42What are you thinking about the bathroom?
07:44This is going to be the kids slash guest bathroom probably most used.
07:50This tile is really great.
07:54This tile is really bad.
07:57It's a whole situation.
07:58We really love the blue 50s, 60s look.
08:02I mean it's appropriate.
08:05Everything else, the stucco walls.
08:08Yeah, it's bad.
08:09What are you going to do?
08:10Sheet rock over it.
08:11Or cut it out.
08:13I have no idea how to do that.
08:14That's going to be another internet video.
08:16I love the idea of keeping the blue tile and doing some type of wallpaper in here.
08:21Yes.
08:21And then, you know, find a vanity or something.
08:24Yeah, you can definitely get a prefab vanity that's beautiful.
08:28Yeah.
08:28And that would save a lot of money.
08:29Something thrifty.
08:30And you said you definitely need double sinks in the kids bathroom.
08:33Yeah.
08:34All right.
08:34So that's what we're doing in here.
08:36So the biggest style changer in here would be, I think you got to take all this off completely.
08:42I would love- And re-sheet rock.
08:44I would love like a wallpaper.
08:45Yes.
08:46I love pattern.
08:47And then taking out this tile floor, you could do possibly a sheet vinyl that looks like mosaic,
08:53just like white floor tile, or you could actually do mosaic floor tile is not that expensive.
08:58Yes.
08:58By a beautiful prefab vanity unit.
09:00You could have a funky little semi-flush light fixture.
09:04Yes.
09:04You could have a funky mirror and hardware for paint towels.
09:08I love like curves and different shapes and texture.
09:12Yes.
09:13I love the idea of mixing all of that together.
09:15Are we happy with the tub?
09:16We like the tub.
09:17I love the tub.
09:18You get Marletta to refinish that.
09:20That's not expensive.
09:21Okay.
09:21What else have y'all done?
09:23Nothing's changed in here.
09:24No, the hallway's the same.
09:25We have done some painting.
09:26The kids' room.
09:27How is that?
09:28Oh, the paint looks good.
09:30We didn't paint.
09:31My parents painted.
09:32Just because some of the paint, I can't be around while being pregnant.
09:35I have been pregnant and renovated.
09:37I just remember how stressful it was.
09:39We would be living in a lot of the renovation.
09:41Yeah, which doesn't sound appealing.
09:44I mean, you still have such a very long way to go.
09:48And you're halfway to growing a full baby.
09:51And it's not getting easier.
09:52Before you can live in this house, you need the kitchen.
09:55A kitchen and a bathroom.
09:56Yep.
09:57And you need one bathroom.
09:58We were prepared to do it ourselves when we bought the house.
10:01Yeah.
10:02I think realistically, it's going to take longer to do it yourself than you have thought about.
10:08I'm just going to buy a house.
10:09It's going to work.
10:09We can figure it out.
10:10We're going to fix it up ourselves.
10:11We're thrifty.
10:12We're capable.
10:13All of that is true.
10:15Like, even though the house is not really a disaster, it's just that I don't think that
10:19they can possibly fix it before the baby comes.
10:22I just don't think we kind of realized how much of a big burden that would be.
10:27The idea of not living in the house while it's getting renovated is appealing.
10:31That is a little overwhelming.
10:32We don't like to ask for help.
10:34But they have more of a shot at getting all this done than we do ourselves.
10:38The house sold.
10:39You need some of that money to pay for this one.
10:42But then you have some left over.
10:44We've got $75,000 that you want to spend on this house.
10:50Yeah.
10:50To renovate.
10:51What were you thinking?
10:52What if we take the $75,000?
10:55We could just do the urgent rooms only.
10:57Kitchen, a bathroom, and get in the dining room, living room, livable.
11:01Your roof's 25 years old, so we need to work in $10,000 for that.
11:05I like that.
11:07Yeah.
11:07We like that.
11:07Yeah.
11:08Y'all are currently a family of four, and you only have a few more weekends of that.
11:14Before little sister arrives.
11:16Is it a little sister?
11:17It is a little sister.
11:18I bet y'all already have a name picked out.
11:20Bonnie.
11:21Girls.
11:22Little girls.
11:23So many girls.
11:24Hank's so outnumbered.
11:26I love everything that we talked about when we were walking through.
11:29Yeah.
11:30I feel like $75,000 would do it.
11:32It would be so much fun to do it again.
11:34Let's let them do it.
11:35Yeah.
11:36Okay.
11:36You want to do it?
11:37Let's do it.
11:38Let's do it.
11:39Let's do it.
11:40Be thrifty.
11:41You starting today?
11:42No.
11:43Um, I can show you some stuff.
11:46No.
11:46We'll come back and talk about the outside when it's not raining.
11:48We'll be right back and talk about the outside when it's not raining.
12:14We'll be right back and talk about the outside when it's not raining.
12:16And your big brother.
12:18Tom's not here yet.
12:19Tom's not here yet.
12:19I don't know if he's coming.
12:21Let's go.
12:22What's with this?
12:22I don't have no tools.
12:23I'm in charge, Jesse.
12:24Jesse, come back over here.
12:26I'm in charge.
12:26All right.
12:27Jeez.
12:29All right, let's do this.
12:48So you canceled class for this.
12:50I canceled it just for Jesse.
12:51Just for you, buddy.
12:52Thanks, man.
12:53Vanity didn't even take off work.
12:55No.
12:59You heard from Tom?
13:00He never showed.
13:01I wanted to get out of it, too.
13:05I wish we could keep this blue tile on this wall,
13:09but I don't know what we'll do ultimately, because we're going to have,
13:11I think budget will only handle a prefab vanity.
13:14But let's just see how much of the blue we can save on this wall.
13:25That mirror is hanging by a thread now.
13:28This scares me.
13:31We did it.
13:33It did great.
13:35Pretty impressive.
13:35I feel like that never happened.
13:40There's pretty tile back there.
13:45I think that is some super 70s tile.
13:47Look, I'm excited.
13:49Anything we can find that is usable that could become beautiful.
13:51It's super on board to keep it.
13:55I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was little.
13:58I wanted to dig for dinosaur bones.
14:00It's pretty close.
14:00This is it.
14:03What'd you find?
14:04Can y'all be delicate?
14:05Oh, I can be delicate.
14:06Sam's leaving.
14:08Nope.
14:08I want to uncover, unwrap the original vanity.
14:11My first thought was, let's just rip the whole vanity out
14:13and see if this continues behind it.
14:15But I really don't think it does.
14:26I want to clean it up.
14:27That is so cool.
14:28Oh, Doyle rules.
14:30That's easy to clean off.
14:31Uh huh.
14:32To rework the vanity, we couldn't make it have double sinks no matter what, because the hole
14:37is cut in the center.
14:38So I called Lauren.
14:39And Lauren said she definitely would prefer double sinks over the original vanity with
14:45that backslash tile that we found.
14:47So we've got to just carefully cut the tile on the wall and remove the original vanity.
14:55Whatever we do, I just want to save money wherever we can.
14:58All of our big splurgy things have to happen in the kitchen.
15:02So if we can save money in the bathroom, I want to do it.
15:16Jaycee and Lauren are coming by the house today while they're staying at Lauren's parents.
15:19So they're going to swing by and grab a couple things while we're here working.
15:23We have a watercolor to show them.
15:25And that is exciting because they've already painted the house and it looks great.
15:28While they're here, I want to just talk about the roof and how I think mid-century houses
15:33were less afraid to use color on the roof.
15:36What are y'all doing?
15:38Well, I got the painting ready to show them.
15:41Jaycee!
15:42Come here!
15:44You want to see?
15:45Yeah, I want to see.
15:48You switch it off?
15:49I want to show you your house, but now I'm standing here realizing the trees are pretty obstructive.
15:54Preference on keeping all the trees that are close to the house.
15:57I don't mind getting rid of these two.
15:59Anyway, just something to think about because if you had no trees, this is what you would see.
16:05Super cool.
16:06I love that.
16:07I love the green roof.
16:09So my thinking was we went so green at your last house and you still love it.
16:13We could have a roof that's just a solid dark green.
16:17Do you have anything that's kind of a little more funky?
16:20I have a shingle sample that definitely has like flecks of cream, light green and dark green.
16:24Oh, I like that idea of the cream.
16:26Yeah, I think it could really bring out the color you fainted it.
16:29Yeah.
16:30I love what's going on here.
16:32This is a mid-century style house.
16:34If you did this mid-century modern mahogany custom-made door with a clear coat.
16:39That sounds really pretty.
16:40This railing was my idea because this wrought iron one is really loose and it's pulled the
16:48anchors out of the brick.
16:49It has to be replaced.
16:50Replaced or fixed.
16:51I have cypress left over from a project.
16:53Oh.
16:54And so we could use it on there.
16:56Oh, yeah.
16:57Uh, if we can save money wherever we can, we'd love that.
17:00Okay.
17:00Yeah.
17:00I'm trying to save money, like, everywhere.
17:02Anywhere we can.
17:03Yeah.
17:04I love that.
17:04So the thing is, we're getting really close to bringing in cabinets and things like that,
17:09and I'd love for you to be surprised.
17:10What if I finish mowing?
17:12Yeah.
17:13If you can get, like, your last box of things, whatever that is.
17:16Yeah.
17:17All right.
17:17Let's get going.
17:18Yeah.
17:18Jesse, show me how this mower works.
17:20All right.
17:21Careful with it.
17:22I think that's got a 300-pound rating.
17:25When you're designing a home that your family's gonna live in, it won't end when they move in.
17:31For us, it's gonna keep going.
17:33So it's more than just a house that needs help.
17:35This is like...
17:36It's the backdrop to our family.
17:38Yeah.
17:46So I hear you got some issues with this bathroom tile.
17:49Yeah, you can say that.
17:50We gotta talk to David about the bathroom because I know that...
17:53This is a different kind of tile problem.
17:54I love the bathroom tile for once.
17:57Great.
17:58And I want to use every bit of it that's here, but I'm really scared that you're about
18:02to tell me something awful.
18:04What's going on?
18:05Look here at this corner.
18:06You got a broke tile.
18:07Where's it at?
18:08Well, it was here.
18:09And now it's not.
18:10We don't know where that piece went.
18:12I'm sure...
18:13It's here somewhere, right?
18:14It got nicked and then hit the floor, and I guess it got scooped up and carried out with
18:20the rest of the trash.
18:21We really need that.
18:22It is what everything I'm designing hinges on.
18:25Like, if the tile is not there, the whole bathroom design falls apart.
18:29But also, we need it for money.
18:32Well, I gotta keep this tile.
18:33We are not changing the tile.
18:35It's vintage tile.
18:36It's worth saving.
18:38It's beautiful.
18:38This area here.
18:40Well, that's about to fall off the wall right there.
18:43Oh yeah, it's just loose.
18:44I just take all the loose ones out, cut some of this grout out, restickle.
18:48Currently, the problem that we have is that we don't know what happened to these.
18:52Someone has thrown them away.
18:53I can do that.
18:54There are places you can find it.
18:56I'm gonna find it.
18:57Yeah, I guarantee you can't find that.
18:59It's vintage tile.
19:00That corner is gonna be near impossible to find.
19:04What are you gonna do with this floor?
19:05This floor is getting new tile.
19:07We're gonna do an inexpensive white hex mosaic tile on the floor.
19:11And it's just not making a statement because we want everything else in the room to make the
19:15statement.
19:15So I'm gonna go check the dumpster.
19:17Y'all keep talking about where you're gonna find it online and all that.
19:21We got a bet going on.
19:23He's not gonna find it.
19:25It's gonna be tough if he does.
19:27See what you can find.
19:28All right, what do I get if I win?
19:29Pot roast with rice and gravy.
19:32Mm.
19:36I think that I'm gonna be the one to find the tile because we had it and now we don't,
19:41which means it's here.
19:44I think the chances of you finding that very corner piece that came off of the wall is so slim.
19:53It's gonna be like finding a baby sock in a dumpster.
20:04Corner piece!
20:06That's it.
20:07I'm pretty sure I found what will work.
20:10Pot roast.
20:11Did you find?
20:12Well, I haven't, I haven't looked that clear.
20:13I have found.
20:14The corner piece.
20:15I found a corner piece.
20:17This ought to work if I can get it off in one piece.
20:19Yes, it's got me in corner.
20:30Chicken Coop 101.
20:32If your wife wants it.
20:33You build it.
20:34You build it.
20:35So why didn't Jessie build fence?
20:37Well, Lauren told me that it would be a dream come true if they could have gardens and chickens.
20:45Sis is making her own bread.
20:46She's gonna be also making her own eggs.
20:49I was raised on a chicken farm, but like a commercial one, there were no coops.
20:53I have no experience with chicken coops, but I've been reading.
20:56You can put six chickens in a 36 square foot chicken coop.
21:01That's what you need.
21:02Okay.
21:03I think we could put it in the front yard somewhere to the side.
21:06For me, the most important thing about the chicken coop is that Hank and Nail and future baby Napier can
21:12open and access the eggs.
21:14Because think about how exciting that is that every morning to go out and get eggs from the chicken coop
21:20for breakfast.
21:20So here was my thought. This is all scrap stuff from the factory that I've just been compiling over here.
21:26This is all Spanish cedar because I want it to be a pretty chicken coop.
21:30Yes, of course.
21:31I'm gonna buy two sheets of plywood. Everything else will be scraps.
21:34It should be like a little small thing.
21:38Here's what I saw in my mind's eye.
21:40I thought it would be like five feet wide, maybe seven feet high.
21:45Egg box wall.
21:47These boxes need to be between 12 and 20 inches off the ground.
21:51The chickens need to feel like they have privacy and comfort so they can lay their eggs.
21:54And so then you would have a screen door here or, you know, chicken wire.
21:58The chickens having their little privacy wall here of slats. This is all screen.
22:04You've got to have the little ladder. Those chickens can't fly.
22:08And then I imagined it having wheels. And on this end, wheelbarrow style handles that you pick up one,
22:17I'll pick up one and we'll move it together. But this is definitely no taller than like seven feet
22:22at the tallest point. I want to have some color. I brought some color samples.
22:27All right. I trust you. It's gonna be great.
22:30So I'm essentially building a rickshaw, but it's a chick shawl.
23:01That's, that's close.
23:03Okay. Feels a little tight right here. Can it go that way?
23:06Oh yeah. Yeah. Sure.
23:07And I know we'll have overhang for the bar. Yeah, that feels way better. I think this kitchen feels
23:12super comfortable, especially with lots of kids. Lauren is going to freak out.
23:19You know what'll make her really love this kitchen? Green quartzite?
23:23Yeah. Sure wish I could afford it. I'm working on it though. I think I'm close.
23:26Like if we reuse their old dishwasher and I save money into a prefab vanity in the bathroom,
23:32I've asked the moms to come help us paint. So that should save us a little bit. I think I'm
23:37like
23:38$500 away.
23:52Front door is going in today.
23:55Big moment. I hate leaded glass. That front door is terrible on this house.
24:001960s ranch. It's not the time for a 1980s leaded glass.
24:06Man, I like this door. A front door is the taste maker of a house. It really does tell you
24:12what to
24:13believe about this house. So that's what I think this front door is going to do. It's going to be
24:17transformative. This is what tells the world the house is mid-century. So this door is more modern
24:23than what we typically do? Mm-hmm. But Jesse and Lauren really like that.
24:28The things that Lauren and Jesse really gravitate toward is using natural wood wherever you can add
24:32it. This front door does that. I love this door. How's it look? Looks great.
24:51Lauren has been really crazy about these European kitchens that are super minimalist,
24:56that are all about function. And then you'll see a checkerboard pattern on the backsplash.
25:01Okay. This house is different. It's a little bit funky. So we have the terracotta and cream everywhere.
25:06The countertops are going to be a dark green quartzite, which we've never used before because
25:11it's crazy expensive. But I can't wait to see that. I know. Well, I'm being very splurgy. We've
25:17saved money everywhere. Like this is a super budget terracotta look towel. Okay. Lauren wants
25:23terracotta towel floors. I cannot afford terracotta towel floors, but I can afford ceramic towel that
25:30is the color of terracotta. It works with this also cheap version of Zilege tile that's really not
25:39the age, but it's going to look beautiful and we can do it under budget.
25:51Don't forget, this is vintage. If by some completely off chance you were to break this one tile,
26:00I don't have a backup. Oh, my goodness. Please be gentle.
26:16Oh, easy.
26:23It came off in my hand.
26:25That is a lot of luck right there. Oh, I thought it broke off. I thought it broke too
26:33there for a minute. Great job, man. I was worried about that one piece. You saved the whole bathroom
26:38with a single tile. Mike could say I saved the house. When David took that tile and just carefully
26:44placed it in the spot. It's like the house unlocked. It unlocked its full potential for us.
26:52Good job. That's what we needed.
27:12Lauren's parents, Lynn and Sunny, have been here painting every minute they're not at work.
27:18Miss Lynn, you have been so busy. I know. So she started the dining room today and me and Ben's
27:24mom
27:25are here and we're going to try to knock out dining room and living room tonight. Lauren has said she's
27:32so,
27:32so, so thankful for y'all letting them stay. I love them staying. I don't want them to move. I
27:37think
27:38you're lying. I'm not lying. I love having them. Painting is not fun, but it's something that has
27:44to be done. Well, anybody can do it. You just have to want to. I don't, you know, I don't
27:49really want to
27:50anymore. I used to watch them.
27:57Y'all, we're getting a roof today and they are so fast.
28:01If Erin gets her pick, it's going to be a statement roof.
28:06I get to do it this time. We don't always. So it's a fun day for me.
28:20Floors are getting refinished. That is exciting because that was the ugliest thing about the
28:24whole house. Jesse and Lauren really wanted to sand the floor themselves. We think this
28:29needs professional help. Those floors are in really rough shape. I think it's going to cost
28:33about $2,500, but it's important. But now that you just see the clear, beautiful oak, it's so
28:39blonde and bright. And I think a water-based clear coat is going to do the trick to keep it
28:45light so
28:46it doesn't become red with like an oil-based clear coat.
28:54Oh, I'm so sorry. The weather's like this today.
28:59What a lovely day. Great day for moving thousands of pounds of stone.
29:05The moment I saw it pop up on my calendar that we were going to get to get the stone
29:10today, I have been giddy. We've just never gotten to choose a colorful stone with so much movement
29:18that's so out of the ordinary. That's so good. I was so scared when I first saw the trailer coming
29:23because I saw the back side and it's gray and I was like, it's supposed to be green. This is
29:28so
29:29beautiful. This is so cool, y'all.
29:35That was slick. Hey, how does it look with the door? I am so nervous about corners getting chipped off.
29:40I know. Guys, this is our first countertop that is a color. I like that. This is big. It's so
29:49unexpected
29:50and so Lauren and Jesse. It's so good.
29:56That one. You like it? I tried so hard to color match the front door to the countertop without having
30:02a sample of the countertop. I was just going off of a picture. I know that it was splurgy to
30:06get this
30:06countertop. It was totally worth it. We scrimped and we saved. It just looks really expensive.
30:13Because it was. Because it was.
30:25Golly, that looks good with the floor. This is like the beach. The ocean and the sand.
30:31Mm-hmm. Dave is going to do the backsplash today. Really? Yes.
30:44We got another problem in the bathroom. I don't know. David texted me. Okay.
30:52Ooh, love it, love it, love it, love it. I've been so ready to see this wallpaper because that
30:59is what makes this all finally make sense. This is the exact same color. Yes. These blueberries
31:06match the towel. It's all so youthful. So we're taking this very old powder blue look that's dated,
31:15but when you change the upper half of the wall, it changes everything. Oh, yeah. What do you think?
31:19I love it. What's the problem? David's gone now, but he texted me
31:24that he didn't have much luck getting the blue tile off the board. He tried soaking it and every
31:30time the tile would crack. David had to cut out the old tile that was loose here. So now we
31:35have
31:36a space that the vanity is not big enough to cover. And we got to fill the gap. All right,
31:42now that I'm looking at it, what if we just push the vanity this way so it touches the tile,
31:46and then in that corner have a linen cabinet to the ceiling. We could do like spice rack pullout drawers
31:54style so you could see from the side all your product. Cool. Because it's the only way we can
31:59deal with the tile hole. Look how good that tile looks right there. I have one tile. That's so fun.
32:06Now we got to get Marletta to refinish the tub. I think it's in good shape. It needs a cleaning
32:12more
32:12than anything. Cool.
32:26There's no one in the door strikes. We can carry it every weekend. I was sleeping by my top.
32:58I don't know how chicken coopery works, but Lauren wants it real bad. That'll be a huge surprise.
33:09I am so thrilled with how this house turned out. It is so distinctly Lauren and Jesse. They're
33:17colorful. They're offbeat. They admire the unusual and their house should reflect that. The bathroom
33:25was the problem child of this house. All in the pursuit of original tile. Was it worth it? I think
33:33so.
33:33Yeah. The vanity was not expensive, but I thought if we add custom hardware and it feels like it is,
33:43you know? It's really pretty. Similar. We did an inexpensive sconce up there and it just had white
33:48shades, but a painted stripes. Oh, I love that. Did I go too far? Nope.
33:57See, the thing that's different is that I'm going to spend a lot of time in this house. Usually,
34:02we finish a house and we say goodbye. It's a special relationship with the whole design process.
34:09When you really can envision yourself being a part of a project beyond completion.
34:15Welcome to the Napier house. Woo! Holy cow. I love it.
34:26That looks so good. My gosh. That's awesome. Y'all, this looks great.
34:37You see that door? Really? Really looking at it. I love the front door.
34:41The door is custom-built mahogany. Wow. Shoot. I love the little window. Oh,
34:46and the railing looks so good. Not only does it look good, it is rock solid, so Hank and Nail
34:52aren't
34:52going to. I love that. Because I know they're going to climb on it. I love the lines that it
34:56kind of creates with the windows. The door, the railing, the windows. It's very linear. I love it.
35:02And that is the theme of a mid-century house and we just kind of pushed it in there. Yeah,
35:08I love that. I love the green roof. It's not too green either. It's just so new and fresh. Yeah.
35:13And the color is honestly kind of nondescript. It looks very cool. Because you can't really
35:17see your roof. I love it. Hey, look at that over there. Whoa.
35:24Is that a chicken coop? That's a chicken coop. Hot dog. Shut up. The back of it is really beautiful.
35:30Did y'all build that? We did. We got Spanish cedar, treated pine. It should last a very long time.
35:36It's so pretty. I love the wood. Yeah. The slatted look was, you know, to tie it to the house.
35:42Yeah.
35:42I wanted it to be bigger. Then Erin said, no, build it this size and put it on wheels. And
35:47I
35:47built it this size. There's no way you could have moved it, even if it had wheels on. So we'll
35:51use
35:51the tractor to put it where you want it later. Okay. Yes. Let's go inside. I can't. You want to?
35:57I want to. Y'all go home. Slow down, Jessie. Your wife's pregnant.
36:06Oh, my goodness.
36:07Uh-huh.
36:12It's cool.
36:13Y'all. Holy cow.
36:18Oh, my goodness. Yeah. This is so cool. This is like the easy. We didn't do anything. We just painted
36:23it.
36:24It's the floor. Isn't that pretty? That's real wood, baby. I did not think that this floor could
36:30be this. This is beautiful. This is so nice. I can't get over it. So much lighter in here. I
36:37know.
36:38The colors in here are the colors we used in your house before. Yeah. The walls, I love it. The
36:43same
36:43living room colors. The grandmas helped paint it. Yeah. They saved us some dough. That was the game of the
36:48game. I'm down for that,
36:49as we try to save you money everywhere. I love it. Like the, uh, baby. Yeah. Already ready for Bonnie.
36:54That was Helen's, and then it was May's, and now it's Bonnie's, and I got all their names embroidered on
36:59it. So sweet. I love this. I love this. Let's keep going. Go see your dining room. Take her,
37:11Jessie. Show her something. We did a little something-something. Holy cow.
37:19Y'all. Okay. You like it? Yeah. Okay. It's nice. It's really pretty. We can all sit here. I'm just
37:27so
37:27excited to have everybody here so we can all eat together and hang out. Do you like the style? I
37:33love
37:34the opal. Did you help with this? A little bit. A little bit. So this is white oak, and Jessie
37:40and I
37:40wanted to do the tapered legs. But it's just like one piece, right? Yes. There's no leaf in there. No
37:45leaf.
37:45It's an X underneath. Your legs can fit. Yeah. More tall people leg room. Yeah. Yay. Ben found
37:51these folding chairs. It was a set of 12 for $300. Dude. Heck yes. There was a door here,
37:57by the way. I saw that. A door and a window. I forgot. I love that it's all blocked off.
38:02Mm-hmm. I love this space. Let's go see. Holy. Holy cow. Y'all. Oh my goodness.
38:13This is awesome. Y'all. I know. You're so fancy. Oh my goodness. I know. This is so pretty.
38:26This is the most expensive countertop we've ever used. This is gorgeous. It's so. It looks like it.
38:31It's so unique. It's quartzite. I love the deep green, but I also love the variation. It just looks like
38:37the ocean. Gosh. This counter space. I love so much. Golly. These are beautiful. I'm glad we
38:44were thrifty elsewhere to splurge here. We found a lot of ways to save the money to give you so
38:49much
38:49pretty counter space. Saving your dishwasher and reusing it. Yes. Using porcelain tile instead of a
38:57concrete. I wouldn't know. No one would know. I wouldn't know. They're beautiful. They're super affordable.
39:01I like that it's like a matte finish to the tile. Then the backsplash was also a super affordable tile,
39:07but you put it in an unexpected pattern and it becomes. That's awesome. I've never seen it like
39:12that. I love the checkered pattern. Good. We saved a lot of money using these cabinet door profiles.
39:18These are the most affordable cabinet doors you could get. This is the, we didn't do anything fancy
39:23with the cabinet. The cabinets are great. The handle is what makes it. It looks like mid-century modern look.
39:29You have double ovens. Is that what this is? Yeah. That's so nice. Oh my gosh. Having both of these,
39:38all the bread. So you can do a loaf of bread for your family and a loaf of bread for
39:42our family.
39:43All at the same time. Every day. Every day if you need to. If I need to. Yeah. It's so
39:49bright. It's so big.
39:51It doesn't even look like the same place. I love how this wall is open. I don't. Without that side
39:57here
39:57of the random walkway and that random window bar, there's just so much space. This view looking into
40:04the house is awesome. I can see the kids. They can see me, but we're not all on each other.
40:10Yeah.
40:11You want to go see the bathroom? Yes. Yes. Come on. Look at your house. I love everything.
40:18Oh. No way.
40:24Oh my goodness. It tried to kill us, but this is gorgeous. Isn't that fun? It does look. It killed
40:33you.
40:34Cool. Oh, this wallpaper. It's the same that's in our guest bathroom, but a different color way.
40:41Yeah. I'm a big fan. Yeah. I love the bright little pops of color too. Yeah.
40:47This vanity looks. I'm glad you like it. Yeah. Glad you like that, Lauren.
40:51The floors. The floors. They're nice. Do you remember what this looked like?
40:56Stucco. Yeah. The heavy stucco awful. Yeah.
41:00Okay. We demoed everything. In the process, the tile on the wall started coming off.
41:05And that meant the vanity had to scoot down here. And that meant there was a big gap down there
41:09where
41:09there was no tile on the corner. So we had to build a cabinet. I love it. Wow.
41:13But it's really actually cool because the top one pulls out like a spice rack.
41:19Oh, heck yeah. This is so nice. Because I figure you'll have two girls at minimum
41:24using the bathroom. Yeah. Absolutely. You need product storage.
41:28This is gorgeous. I'm so thankful y'all were able to save the blue tile. I'm so sorry that it
41:34was a hassle.
41:34That's okay. It saved money. We have new shower fixtures and Marletta refinished the tub.
41:40The tub is beautiful. It's so clean and smooth. Oh, that light.
41:45That's awesome. So cute. I painted stripes on your lamps.
41:49Wait, you painted those on there? I painted the stripes on the scotches.
41:51That's adorable. Well, y'all did good. Thank you.
41:55Let's go look at the chicken house. Yeah. It's a chicken coop. I know.
42:02This is a legit chicken house. This looks awesome. I love that there's so much space for the girls.
42:09What are the girls' names going to be? Well, there are grandmother and great-grandmother's names.
42:14Bertil, Mavis, Inez, Janice, Darce.
42:22I love this. You like it? This is gorgeous, y'all. I love it. Yes.
42:27How'd we do? Y'all knocked it out of the park. I can't wait to live here for a long,
42:32long time.
42:33You got the house for $200,000. We objected. We were wrong. Did you object more than you let on?
42:38Yes. Yeah. In private, there was great objection. We felt it. DIYing it scared us.
42:44We squeezed every bit of the $75,000 y'all gave us and then had some family members chip in.
42:51I love it now. I do, too. Pretty dang good. Yeah. I feel like this was a great idea.
42:55Yes. We did great. Awesome house, guys. Good job. Good job.
42:58Yeah. Thank y'all. We did it before Bonnie comes. I'm just really proud of that.
43:03Awesome job, y'all.
