Transcript
00:00Today we take a look at the team behind flight operations on board the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, LHD
00:07-1.
00:11Lieutenant Eduardo Aceves discusses what's involved in successful flight operations on the amphibious platform.
00:22I'm the Airbus and I'm on board the USS Wasp. My name is Eduardo Aceves and I work with the
00:27Crash and Salvage guys.
00:28Doing DLQs, making sure that we develop the proficiency, whether it's from our training team to our pilots that come
00:36on board, most of them were brand new so they're experiencing landing on an amphib or a big deck for
00:42their first time.
00:43For us it's more when we continue training with these aircraft and come out here for these short underways, it's
00:48mainly keeping that proficiency.
00:50Here we have the ABHs, ABFs and then we also have our ASs who help us out with our support
00:56equipment.
00:56Your yellow shirts, that's going to be all your ABHs. They're going to be a mixture between your LSEs, your
01:02directors and your deck callers.
01:05Blue, that's your chalk and chain guys. They're the ones that will chalk and chain the aircraft as soon as
01:10it lands.
01:10They're also part of the aircraft moves. They'll be your tractor drivers.
01:15The Crash and Salvage team, it's going to be the special group of ABHs. They got to know how to
01:20conduct rescue, how to shut down the aircraft from the battery to the APU and be able to provide any
01:28type of firefighting assistance.
01:29You got your purple shirts. Your purple shirts are combat grapes, the ones that go out there and fuel the
01:34aircraft.
01:35Here on this specific platform, it's not just the aircraft, they also integrate with the LCACs, so they fuel those
01:40up.
01:40You have your white jerseys, which is going to be your air traffic control men.
01:46What makes Flight Off so efficient on the Wasp? It's easy. We got the best crew and we got the
01:51number one ship in the fleet.
01:53That's always the best crew.
01:56A very good crew, what makes Flight Off so that we have to work on the vehicles.
01:57That's all, there's a lot of staff, and we're fine.
