On May 4th, twenty-twenty-six, U.S. Central Command officially launched Operation Project Freedom. This is a massive military effort to restore commercial transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Since February, Iranian threats and ‘Smart Mines’ have collapsed shipping traffic by over ninety percent. This new operation represents a significant shift in naval doctrine. Instead of a traditional convoy system, the Navy is utilizing ‘Area Security.’ Guided-missile destroyers and over one hundred aircraft are now securing narrow transit lanes, using localized protection to defend individual vessels from mine and missile threats. With fifteen thousand service members supporting the mission, the U.S. is directly challenging Iran’s ability to paralyze the global economy.
