00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced, and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:20Just before midnight in the Norcross neighborhood.
00:26When accounting, I have a wrong application of your emergency.
00:30I'm at the Horizon Hotel off of Dawson, and there's a gunshot.
00:35Somebody's shooting me.
00:36Somebody's screaming outside that he just got shot.
00:39Clinic County 911.
00:41Junk's fired, two-pane, short's fired.
00:44He's on the floor, he's dying.
00:46He's getting there. He's getting there.
00:48Is he still breathing?
00:50He's dying. Go police.
00:57All right.
00:58Oh my God, keep that, keep that
01:01He's coming there.
01:02Please are here!
01:03You have a touch context.
01:04Everybody move across the media, to show!
01:07One of five. I've got a male with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
01:12They've being happy to the media is going to be responsive.
01:17He's got multiples, like two to the chest, barely breathing.
01:23EMS rushes the victim to the hospital, but he doesn't survive.
01:38For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within
01:45the first 48 hours.
02:02What's up, Bryce is on the way, she's the lead.
02:06Okay, I'll show you back here.
02:10Basically everything happened right here.
02:14That's where he was laying, right there.
02:20We have the guy identified.
02:23The victim, 29-year-old Andre Jones, worked as a logistics specialist for a freight company.
02:30He had been staying at the hotel where he was killed, but was in the process of moving out to
02:35live with his mother.
02:37Andre had eight siblings and was the proud father of three young boys.
02:46Through and through.
02:48Andre was shot twice in the chest.
02:52There's a couple of cell casings right here.
02:55The casings are both nine millimeter.
03:01The camera's filming down this way.
03:04We can upload the video.
03:06Yeah.
03:08I got a good witness to talk to.
03:09As far as the other witnesses, good luck.
03:12Yeah.
03:12Because there was about 30 of them out here.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And nobody saw anything.
03:15Okay.
03:16So I think he's the most important one right now.
03:19I'll go do that now.
03:23What's up?
03:24I'm a detective early.
03:25Can we go talk over there?
03:26I just want to hear what happened from your standpoint.
03:30I was on the stairs at the door.
03:33I had somebody calling me.
03:34This guy got shot.
03:36Tez.
03:37He knows the victim, Andre, as Tez.
03:41So I came down.
03:43He wanted me to go to the store for me.
03:45I said, yeah, I was on the store for me.
03:47When we had to start walking, it was just a direction.
03:51I was walking, I looked up.
03:53I see two guys.
04:05They both had masks on?
04:06Both of them.
04:07That's all he knew, because when he seen them jump down,
04:10he dashed over to me.
04:12They basically just did like this when they walked past us.
04:16Was he mad at them or anything?
04:17Or did he just say, hey, you know, like...
04:19He was like, what's up, yo?
04:21So me and him walking behind them.
04:24They turned, we went that way.
04:26And by the time we got, he turned, they coming back.
04:30So when they cast us, I took on one because I think he did behind me.
04:35Yeah.
04:35So I did not turn around.
04:36He's going back this way.
04:37And he came.
04:39So I said, hey, Tez, what's up?
04:40He's like, he's jumping around.
04:42Kind of speeding up towards me.
04:44Then the dog said, just go to the officer to get me the soda.
04:47I said, I got you.
04:48Got the dog from him.
04:49See me, I turned around.
04:50Bow, bow.
04:53Shot.
04:54I didn't see this lady took off or anything.
04:58The second guy was still there.
05:01The darker hoodie?
05:03Yeah.
05:04He was the shooter.
05:05I see him going that way, but I was still focusing too.
05:08Showing him just be still, still going down, going back.
05:11Yeah.
05:13Did he call them by any kind of nickname or anything?
05:16Well, he said, son.
05:19All right, man.
05:21Appreciate you hanging around.
05:28Hey.
05:29Hey.
05:30Lead detective Julie Price arrives on scene.
05:34Someone came up to York about somebody to look into.
05:38I was like, would you at least talk to one of my people now?
05:41And she's like, no.
05:42I don't want my name involved.
05:44While Sergeant Dallas York was canvassing the hotel,
05:47a guest said the man staying in room 243 may be involved.
05:53Yeah, I checked out.
05:54But according to the manager,
05:56the man in that room checked out this morning.
06:10The manager gave York the names of all the hotel guests for that day.
06:17This hotel shares their cameras with Gwinnett Police Department.
06:22So I'm going to go back to headquarters and just review a bunch of video.
06:40So the car comes and stops on 85.
06:45So here's the hotel.
06:47It stops right here.
06:49The team pulls up the security video from around the time of the murder.
06:54They get off the exit ramp on 85 right there behind Horizon.
06:58It sits up here with its hazard lights on.
07:02Six minutes before the shooting,
07:04the suspect's car stops on the side of the highway.
07:09They both come down the embankment.
07:15There's no cameras back there?
07:16The one on the back side's down.
07:22So they're in the back.
07:26Orange hoodie.
07:28And then the dark hoodie with bandana print sleeves.
07:32That's the victim in the white hoodie.
07:37So they, they pass the victim like they're thinking about it.
07:47And then they turn around and go back.
07:58The guy in the bandana print hoodie pulls his gun, fires two shots.
08:03They take off.
08:07It looks like he was targeted.
08:11They come running back up.
08:15You see him go back across the back of the car with his orange hoodie.
08:21So we got some good clothing to look for if we can figure out where to go.
08:25Yeah.
08:28So they have a camera that points basically at the roadway.
08:32And that's him pulling through.
08:35So that's the car right there?
08:37That's the car.
08:38It's going to be a dark car.
08:40Definitely dark.
08:42It's definitely a sedan.
08:45And there's nothing, there's no cameras up there that we can
08:49see which way that car goes.
08:51That's right now.
08:54Some girl gave a room number and said,
08:56you need to look at this guy.
08:58Jahari.
09:00The man in room 243, whom the tipster said may be involved,
09:04is 28-year-old Jahari Foster.
09:08There's no vehicles that look good that are associated.
09:12And he also just checked out that morning.
09:14But Jahari doesn't drive a dark-colored sedan,
09:17and he checked out of the hotel 12 hours before the shooting.
09:25Right now, I don't have any suspects.
09:29I'm hoping that somebody will call and just give me some little kind of detail
09:34in order for me to run with to figure out who these guys are.
09:47Later that morning,
09:49Detective, are you, sir?
09:51A guest from the hotel comes forward
09:53with information about Andre's murder.
09:56The lieutenant just told me that you have some information.
09:59They killed my friend last night.
10:02I'm sorry to hear that.
10:06What was your friend's name?
10:07Dr. Jones.
10:08He went by another name, though, right?
10:10Because I went there about
10:12that he took him in the street morning.
10:15And a test came out from the second floor.
10:18So, you know, he's like, man, I fell asleep.
10:21He's a little damn gun,
10:22and then I was to the back.
10:24So, if Ted's is going to have stolen?
10:26No.
10:28Some might go.
10:29She says Andre came into possession of a stolen gun
10:32and was planning to return it to the owner.
10:35But, you know, he stole that gun while Ted was asleep.
10:40And he stole it before Ted could be the back to do.
10:44That's why the shooting happened.
11:04Okay, so he had the gun initially is what he told you?
11:07And he got it.
11:09However, Ted said, I fell asleep.
11:11It'd be a stolen gun, and now I got to steal it back.
11:20Why does he think that he has to steal it back?
11:23I guess they're really mean it's real heat
11:25so he can get the gun back.
11:27I don't know, but...
11:28Okay.
11:29But basically, they're trying to make it seem
11:31like it was Ted's responsible for this,
11:32and it's not.
11:34She says the owner of the gun
11:36mistakenly thought Andre had stolen it.
11:39They're saying that the dude whose gun it is
11:42might be staying in that room 243,
11:47which is cleared out.
11:48She doesn't know the gun owner's name,
11:50but gives the room number that was registered
11:52to Jahari Foster.
11:55Did you see the shooting itself?
11:57No.
11:57Okay.
11:58You were in the shots with that room,
12:00and I came out.
12:02Okay.
12:03Amy, thanks for you.
12:11So the rumor mill is that all of this
12:13is over a stolen gun.
12:14Ready to go?
12:15She said that Andre wasn't the one that stole it,
12:17but somehow the gun's owner believed
12:19that Andre was the one that stole it.
12:21She also provided the same room number
12:23as the other tipster that Jahari Foster
12:26was staying in.
12:28But we need more than just rumors
12:29to put him at the scene.
12:38Later that afternoon...
12:39How are you?
12:42So yesterday when we came in,
12:44we started looking back
12:45through some of the video
12:47from the other camera views.
12:48After combing through more
12:50of the hotel's surveillance video,
12:52the crime prevention unit has a lead.
12:55Ricketts pulled footage
12:56from earlier in the day
12:57and actually located
12:58the guy in the orange hoodie.
13:00So once we found him,
13:02we explored a lot more of the video,
13:04and we actually identified them
13:07parking at the rooms to go,
13:09walking over to the horizon
13:11earlier in the day,
13:12kind of scoping things out.
13:14Five hours before the homicide,
13:16three men appear to be casing the hotel.
13:20The subject with the orange hoodie
13:22actually obtains it from a female
13:23on the second floor
13:25as he's walking in.
13:26You see the female
13:27with the orange hoodie
13:28just walking down the hall.
13:30He literally just walks up the stairs.
13:32She's already walking
13:33down the hallway with it.
13:34It's just a pass-off,
13:36and she walks one direction,
13:37he walks the other.
13:45Do you all recognize
13:46that female at all?
13:48No.
13:48I was trying to get
13:49a better picture of her face.
13:55When this went earlier,
13:56we actually get a decent shot
13:57of his face.
14:00He walks this way,
14:02and then they kind of stop,
14:04and then they were talking
14:04to each other.
14:06It looks like Jahari.
14:07Price believes the suspect
14:09with the orange hoodie
14:10is the man who rented
14:11room 243, Jahari Foster.
14:15The two other subjects
14:16that he was with
14:17come around the backside
14:18of the building.
14:21They've already got
14:21their hoodies up.
14:23The second guy actually, like,
14:25pulls his drawstring tight
14:26to conceal his face.
14:34They go up.
14:35They're up there
14:35a very short time.
14:37They kind of walk around,
14:38and then they come back down.
14:42So this is the subject
14:43in the gray hoodie.
14:45He's going to be
14:46the actual shooter
14:47because he's wearing
14:48the same handkerchief-looking
14:49hoodie during the homicide.
14:57He meets up with the other two.
15:02Once they are leaving,
15:05they walk right back to the car
15:07that they came from.
15:09And then a few seconds later,
15:11you'll see the black passenger car
15:14and the rooms to go parking lot
15:15come around the left side
15:16of the building.
15:19We ended up identifying the vehicle
15:21as a Ford 500 passenger car.
15:27This is the Ford 500
15:29leaving rooms to go.
15:34Once we had this video,
15:36we pulled the flock kits,
15:37and Moon was able to identify the tag.
15:40The car is registered
15:42to 35-year-old Tyrus Lane
15:44from DeKalb County.
15:46You've got a very long
15:47and interesting room on this one.
15:50Tyrus has several prior convictions,
15:52including armed robbery
15:53and aggravated assault.
15:56The way it looked
15:57in one of the views
15:59from the night of the inside,
16:00it almost looks like
16:01there's brake lights on
16:02before they get up to the car.
16:04It almost looks like
16:05there was somebody
16:05still in the car.
16:07Officers believe Tyrus
16:09could be the getaway driver.
16:12The car seems like
16:13it doesn't come here very often.
16:15It seems like it tends to stay down
16:16in style like Dunwoody
16:18and Dora Valeria,
16:19Chambly.
16:23Right there at the Motel 6.
16:27There it goes.
16:29After the homicide,
16:30the suspect vehicle
16:31was captured by traffic cameras
16:33at a motel in Chambly,
16:34about 20 miles west of Gwinnett.
16:37That's all we did?
16:38That was pretty good.
16:40I appreciate you guys
16:40meeting with us.
16:41I really do appreciate
16:42the right work.
16:51Look, right here.
16:53That's got to be the same one.
16:55The team takes a closer look
16:56at the hotel surveillance video
16:58from around the time
16:59of the murder.
17:01She's wearing the same
17:03that's the same,
17:04it's the same female.
17:05Yeah.
17:06When they first come,
17:08she hands the suspect,
17:09which looks like Jahari,
17:10the orange sweatshirt.
17:17And then during the homicide,
17:19she's standing there
17:20on her phone.
17:23It's like she's looking
17:24and waiting.
17:26I wonder if she called.
17:28And said,
17:28hey, he's here out front.
17:29Hey, they're here.
17:31She's the lookout.
17:32Yep.
17:34She's involved.
17:35She already knew
17:36what was going to happen.
17:38I don't see how
17:38she's not a participant.
17:40If she wasn't a part of it,
17:41she should be able
17:42to tell me who was.
17:43We've got to figure out
17:44who she is.
17:5419 hours in.
17:58Price returns to the hotel
17:59to ask the staff
18:00if they recognize
18:01the female
18:02in the surveillance video.
18:05They do know her.
18:06She's been here,
18:07they said,
18:07for like the last
18:08three or four days,
18:08but they don't really know
18:09her name or anything.
18:11But he did take my card
18:12and he says,
18:12if I find her
18:13and I can get a name,
18:14I'll text you.
18:17So at this point,
18:18I believe that the person
18:19in the orange hoodie
18:20is Jahari Foster.
18:22However,
18:22I need somebody
18:23to ID him
18:25and tell us
18:26who the other two
18:26of the suspects are.
18:28I've got the
18:29reasonable suspicion part.
18:30This is not going to
18:31hold up that far in court.
18:32So I need just
18:33a little bit more.
18:46The next day,
18:48we're about to go
18:49ahead to Chambly
18:49for video footage,
18:51see if we got
18:52a clearer picture
18:52of their faces.
18:53The team heads
18:54to the motel
18:55where the suspect vehicle
18:56was captured
18:57on traffic cameras
18:58after the homicide.
19:07They asked the motel
19:08manager to pull up
19:09video from that night.
19:15We got them.
19:17They are there.
19:21Look at them
19:22showing up
19:23immediately after the homicide.
19:25Boom.
19:40They show up.
19:42There's three of them.
19:43Two of them come out.
19:49My man still has
19:50the orange hoodie.
19:52Fifteen minutes
19:52after the murder,
19:53two of the three suspects
19:55are seen getting out
19:56of the suspect vehicle
19:57at the motel
19:58in Chambly.
20:00In the driver's seat,
20:01that's probably
20:02more than likely
20:03the registered owner.
20:06That's good stuff.
20:09You see them
20:10hanging out
20:10in the corner
20:11and talking
20:12for a couple minutes,
20:14smoking a cigarette,
20:15but you don't see
20:16what room they go in.
20:18The suspects disappear
20:19into one of two rooms
20:21off camera.
20:22So this is the room roster
20:24for everyone
20:25who's rented the room
20:26here at the Studio 6.
20:28On the night
20:29of the murder,
20:30both rooms
20:31out of camera view
20:32were rented by women.
20:33Price can look at this.
20:35We're in business.
20:42According to Swazza,
20:43they go into room
20:44like 214 or 215.
20:45Both registered to females.
20:47So I gotta see
20:48who they're connected with.
20:50Price researched
20:51the women
20:51in the two rooms
20:52but has been unable
20:53to find a link
20:54to the suspects.
20:56I think that's
20:57Jahari there.
20:59The driver, I think,
21:00is gonna be
21:01registered owner.
21:02Still trying to figure
21:03out who this guy is,
21:04but those are the
21:05same exact shorts
21:06and same pumas
21:07as a shooter.
21:09I think he's got
21:10the actual hoodie
21:11balled up in his arm
21:12right now.
21:14So I've done
21:15two out of three,
21:15but I still don't know
21:16who my shooter is.
21:35Three days later.
21:37It's still so unreal
21:38to me that my son
21:39is gone.
21:41Price speaks
21:41with Andre's mother.
21:43You hear about it,
21:44you see it,
21:45you just don't expect
21:46it to be you.
21:48He designed this.
21:50No.
21:50The story I'm getting
21:51of it is
21:52he got blamed
21:53for stealing a gun,
21:54but the rumor is
21:56is that it was
21:56somebody else
21:57and he got blamed
21:58for it.
21:59And then, of course,
21:59this happened.
22:01Right.
22:01Yeah.
22:02If my son
22:03had done something,
22:04he would tell me.
22:05He's never lied to me.
22:07Yeah.
22:08He never kept
22:09anything from me,
22:09even when he got
22:11in trouble
22:11as a young youth.
22:14I'm so torn.
22:15I can't even explain it.
22:17This is the child
22:19who calls me
22:20just to tell me
22:21he loves me.
22:22You know?
22:23Yeah.
22:24He's never gonna have that
22:26again.
22:28The kids are torn up.
22:30My oldest boy
22:31can't even come
22:32out the house.
22:33It has really devastated
22:34my whole entire family.
22:36Yeah.
22:37Hopefully,
22:38I'll have some news
22:39for you here
22:39by the end of the week,
22:40but I'll contact you
22:42as soon as I can,
22:42okay?
22:44All right.
22:44Thank you so much.
22:45Bye.
22:46Okay.
22:47All right.
22:47Bye-bye.
22:52Then...
22:52The Department of Labor
22:54came back with
22:54where Jahari works.
22:57This is the shirt logo.
23:00According to the
23:00Department of Labor,
23:02Jahari works for
23:03a moving company
23:04in Norcross.
23:06This is the back
23:06of the hoodie.
23:08Can't really quite
23:09make it out,
23:10but it's their logo.
23:13And then here
23:14is his face shot
23:18wearing said hoodie.
23:19So he's wearing
23:20his work hoodie.
23:22So I'm gonna run
23:23over to Norcross
23:24and talk to a manager.
23:26Confirm,
23:26A, that's your logo,
23:27and B, who's that?
23:30Because we've only
23:31been able to guess
23:32that that's Jahari,
23:32so I just need somebody
23:33to tell me,
23:34yep, that's him.
23:40Later that afternoon...
23:43Price and Sergeant
23:44Michael Poppy
23:45pay a visit
23:46to Jahari's manager.
23:47He said,
23:48yeah, that's their logo.
23:49He said,
23:50yeah, that's their hoodie.
23:51Then flipped it over
23:52and showed him the guy.
23:53And he goes,
23:54I mean,
23:54he looks familiar.
23:56I was like,
23:57well,
23:57if you had to guess who,
23:58and he points to,
23:59on the wall,
24:00they have all their employees.
24:01He points to Jahari Foster's
24:02photo and says,
24:04I got enough
24:05to pull warrants.
24:06Now,
24:06he will be here
24:08Wednesday,
24:088 a.m.
24:10Jahari's next scheduled shift
24:12is in two days.
24:14I mean,
24:14there's no reason
24:15not to hook him up with him.
24:18He gave you
24:18his phone number, right?
24:19His Facebook username.
24:22The manager said
24:23he contacts Jahari
24:24through Facebook.
24:26So that was golden.
24:28I just would like
24:29to have a name
24:29of the third guy,
24:31the shooter.
24:37The next day,
24:41Early gets a lead
24:42on the third suspect.
24:45So I just went
24:46to Jahari's Facebook.
24:47I went to his profile picture
24:49and just looked
24:50at the two people
24:51that liked it.
24:52And one is this guy.
24:55He's got the chin.
24:56He's got the short hair.
24:58Yeah,
24:59he's got the long beard
25:00that the shooter had.
25:03I think that's him.
25:05Yeah,
25:06that looks like him.
25:08Demetrius Bush.
25:23It looks to me
25:24like the same guy
25:25that we have
25:26for the shooting.
25:27That big,
25:28long goatee,
25:29the short hair,
25:30same build.
25:35Now I got a close
25:36coming up.
25:37Oh, yeah.
25:3933-year-old Demetrius Bush
25:41was born in Maryland
25:42and grew up in Atlanta.
25:44He has prior convictions
25:45for possession of cocaine
25:47and possession of a firearm
25:48while committing a felony.
25:51He's wanted for probation violation.
25:53He has an active warrant
25:54for violating his probation.
25:57All right,
25:58so then I check.
26:02Right.
26:05Price checks
26:06the guest registry
26:06from the motel
26:07where the suspects
26:08were dropped off
26:09after the murder.
26:11I know which room
26:12he goes in.
26:152-14.
26:16One of the two females
26:18who rented a room
26:18on the night of the murder
26:19has the same last name
26:21as Demetrius.
26:22We got to get eyes
26:23on the hotel
26:24to see if he's still
26:25staying there.
26:26If I can just get him
26:27going in and out it,
26:29I'm golden to go
26:29search that room
26:30because that is
26:30where they go after.
26:38The next morning.
26:40So, a short while ago,
26:42our gang unit
26:43was able to go out
26:44to the Studio 6
26:47motel in Chambly
26:48looking for one
26:49of our suspects.
26:51They were able
26:51to lay eyes on him
26:53and watched him
26:54and watched him go back
26:55into room 2-14.
26:56They came back out
26:57a short while later
26:58and they were able
26:59to jump out
26:59and grab him
27:00and place him under arrest
27:01for a probation violation
27:03warrant that he has.
27:04The suspected shooter,
27:06Demetrius Bush,
27:07is on his way
27:08to headquarters
27:08for questioning.
27:10We're going to search
27:10his room.
27:11We're looking for some clothing
27:12that he was wearing
27:13and possibly
27:14the murder weapon.
27:16Hopefully,
27:16we get enough now
27:17to charge him
27:18with murder also.
27:26The team searches
27:27the room
27:27where Demetrius
27:28was staying.
27:34We recovered
27:35the clothing
27:35that Mr. Bush had
27:37when the homicide occurred.
27:40The whole get-up
27:41was in there.
27:43Shoe,
27:44shorts,
27:47Paisley Hoodie
27:48the whole night.
27:50But there was no sign
27:51of the murder weapon.
27:53At this point,
27:54we have enough
27:54to take out arrest warrants,
27:56take him to jail.
27:58We're about to go
27:58talk to him now.
28:00We're at headquarters
28:00and see what he has to say.
28:08Hey, ma'am.
28:10Good.
28:11I'm Detective Price.
28:13Detective Swazzo.
28:14Hello, Price.
28:15Yes.
28:18And you're Mr. Bush?
28:19Yes.
28:20Okay.
28:20So,
28:21have you ever been
28:22to the Horizon?
28:24No, I don't go
28:25to the Horizon.
28:26Well,
28:27on Wednesday,
28:28there was
28:28a homicide
28:29that occurred there
28:31and there was
28:32clothing specific
28:33with the shooter
28:34at the homicide.
28:35Okay?
28:36That clothing
28:37was found
28:37in your room,
28:38all right?
28:39So...
28:39No, kid.
28:40No.
28:41So you're getting
28:42charged with
28:42malice murder,
28:43felony murder.
28:46possession of a firearm
28:47and possession
28:48by a convicted felon,
28:49okay?
28:50Yeah.
28:50It's too easy.
28:52Y'all hiding
28:52like that for you?
28:54So here's the thing.
28:55There's enough
28:56probable cause
28:57to talk to a judge
28:58to get these warrants
28:59we're not playing
29:00with you.
29:02I need a lawyer.
29:03All right, brother.
29:04Gotcha.
29:04I love you.
29:13He wasn't having it
29:14and asked for a lawyer.
29:16But it's a good feeling
29:17when you got
29:17the shooter arrested.
29:25While I was up here
29:26waiting for Mr. Bush
29:27to get up here
29:28we got intel
29:29that there's a dad
29:31looking for his daughter.
29:32He went to the Horizon Inn
29:34while the manager
29:34has the photo
29:36of the female
29:36that we're looking for
29:37in Casey Caesar.
29:38Shows dad
29:39and was like,
29:39hey,
29:40I know pretty much
29:41everybody here
29:41and everybody around
29:42but I don't know
29:43who this is.
29:44Maybe this is her?
29:45And he goes,
29:46yeah,
29:46that's my daughter.
29:47The female seen
29:48handing Jahari Foster
29:49the orange hoodie
29:50in the surveillance video
29:52has been identified
29:53as a teenage runaway
29:54but her location
29:55is unknown.
29:57So now
29:57we have
29:58vice unit,
29:59special victims unit,
30:01narcotics.
30:02They're all looking
30:03for her.
30:04And I do have
30:06active warrants
30:07out on
30:08Jahari Foster.
30:09We were told
30:10that Jahari works
30:11tomorrow at 8 a.m.
30:14Hopefully we'll get him
30:15tomorrow morning.
30:21The next morning.
30:23Fugitives just texted me
30:24saying that
30:26Jahari is 1095,
30:28he's arrested.
30:29The plan is for them
30:30to bring him up here
30:32so we can attempt
30:32to interview him.
30:34If anybody's gonna talk,
30:35I think it's gonna be
30:37Jahari.
30:49He blew it up
30:50as soon as he walked in.
30:51Did he?
30:52Yeah.
30:53On his way
30:53into homicide,
30:55Jahari Foster
30:56asked for a lawyer.
30:58He's like,
30:58what are even my charges?
31:00I told him.
31:01Malice murder,
31:02felony murder.
31:03And he's like,
31:03what?
31:04And I was like,
31:05listen,
31:05I want to talk
31:06to you about him,
31:06but you already
31:07want a lawyer
31:08and I can't
31:08talk to you right now.
31:15I don't understand it,
31:17but honestly,
31:18I don't need
31:18my final arm.
31:19Yeah.
31:20My final arm
31:21got stolen from me
31:21two weeks ago
31:22at that hotel.
31:24So I didn't know
31:24what's going on.
31:26And like I said,
31:27I do want to talk
31:28to you, okay?
31:29So if you want
31:29to talk to me
31:31but you want
31:31a lawyer present,
31:32that's fine.
31:33Because I understand
31:33that's all I got
31:34a job to do,
31:34but I don't need
31:35any pregnant
31:35to take me.
31:36Okay.
31:36Some serious charges
31:37that I don't even...
31:38Trust me, I know.
31:40I don't even know
31:40how to do it.
31:42I'll give you my card
31:43and you can take
31:44this with you, okay?
31:46I have nothing to hire.
31:47Yeah.
31:48We will get you
31:49transported to jail.
31:54He says he doesn't
31:55even own a gun
31:55because his gun
31:56got stolen
31:57two weeks ago.
31:58Feels good
31:59that I have
32:00these two in custody
32:01and I'm like
32:02this close
32:03away from getting
32:04the third person.
32:05I just need
32:05that one little nugget
32:06to put Tyrus
32:07at the location.
32:09As soon as I do that,
32:10I'm good.
32:11We got to find
32:12the female too.
32:14Yeah, yeah.
32:23Eleven days later.
32:26So the female miner
32:28that we were looking
32:29for got picked up.
32:31The teenage runaway
32:32seen on video
32:33handing Jahari
32:33the orange hoodie
32:34was tracked down
32:35and interviewed
32:36by the special
32:37victims unit.
32:38They did a forensic
32:39interview with her.
32:40She ends up talking
32:42about the shooting
32:43in detail.
32:44At first she says
32:45that Jahari believed
32:48that it was
32:49his ex-girlfriend
32:49that stole his gun.
32:51He heard later then
32:53that it was a male
32:54and then she was
32:55supposed to run around
32:56and try to figure out
32:58who the male was
32:59but he supposedly
33:00figured it out first.
33:02She knew Jahari
33:03was looking to fight
33:04but after the shooting
33:05she then realized
33:06it wasn't to fight
33:07it was to actually
33:08shoot him.
33:10She flat out asks
33:12Sid what's planned
33:12and he eventually
33:13confessed and said
33:14it was planned.
33:16And then she talks
33:17about how afterwards
33:18at the hotel
33:20she's with Jahari
33:21and Bush
33:22and Bush starts
33:24talking about
33:25his body count
33:25and how he just
33:27killed somebody
33:27but the minor
33:29couldn't call police
33:31at all about anything
33:32because she was
33:33on the run herself
33:34being a runaway.
33:36The young female
33:37will not be charged
33:38and has been released.
33:41Unfortunately
33:42she didn't mention
33:42anything about
33:43a driver
33:44in her interview
33:45so at this point
33:46we're still trying
33:47to figure out
33:48how to tie Tyrus
33:49to the murder
33:50and we're still
33:51trying to locate
33:52his car.
34:03A month later
34:04So we're headed
34:05down to Clayton County
34:07Tyrus has a meeting
34:09right now
34:09with his probation officer
34:11so we're headed
34:12down there
34:13to hopefully
34:13intercept him.
34:15The team
34:15plans to confront Tyrus
34:17after he meets
34:18with his probation officer.
34:19I have plenty
34:21to take his car.
34:22I just can't say
34:22that he's the one
34:23that was driving it.
34:25But if we go down here
34:26and he says
34:27I'm the only person
34:28to ever drive my car
34:29nobody drives my car
34:30that kind of stuff
34:31that would be golden.
34:32I would be comfortable
34:33pulling warrants
34:34on him too.
34:42This is him right here
34:43standing outside his car.
34:48Hey I'm Detective Crowe.
34:52Tyrus agrees to speak
34:54with Price
34:54and Corporal Rodrigo Araya
34:56inside Sergeant
34:57Hegwood's car.
35:00I just got a couple
35:01of weapons for you.
35:04That's your car?
35:06Yes that's my car.
35:08Does anybody else
35:09drive your car?
35:11No, not recently.
35:15When was the last time
35:16somebody drove your car?
35:17June, July.
35:20One of the guys
35:21who stayed over
35:22at the studio asleep
35:23he said
35:24he had to run air.
35:27Who was that?
35:31A guy named
35:32Meech.
35:33Meech?
35:49You don't Meech's real name?
35:53I don't.
35:58How long did you give him
35:59What did you give him your car for?
36:00Um, hour and a half
36:02at the most I guess.
36:04I got some photos for you.
36:06Do you recognize those two?
36:08Price shows him a photo
36:10of Jahari Foster
36:11and Demetrius Bush
36:12being dropped off
36:13at the motel
36:14after the murder.
36:16That's Meech.
36:17He identifies Demetrius
36:19as Meech.
36:21Do you know who
36:22was behind him?
36:24Have you ever seen him before?
36:26I don't know his name.
36:28I've seen him over there
36:29a couple times before.
36:31Can you see it?
36:32This vehicle?
36:35Does that look like your car?
36:36Yeah.
36:37But you don't know
36:37who would have been
36:38driving your car?
36:39Meech.
36:40No, Meech gets out
36:41of the passenger seat.
36:43Oh, no.
36:44I don't know
36:44what's wrong with him then.
36:45No, I don't.
36:47So over at the Horizon Inn
36:48there was a homicide, right?
36:49Oh, please.
36:50And your car was seen
36:53at the homicide.
36:54Like, used in the homicide.
36:58So that's why
36:59I'm here talking to you.
37:02Do you have any reason
37:03to be out there
37:03at the Horizon Inn?
37:04I don't even
37:05around with it.
37:07No.
37:08No.
37:10Most definitely not.
37:11Do you have any text messages
37:13or anything with Meech?
37:14No, I got my
37:15on AutoD.
37:16Would you mind
37:17if we took a look
37:18at your phone?
37:19Just to kind of confirm that?
37:21Tyrus hands over
37:22his phone.
37:24So what we're going
37:26to be doing
37:26is taking your car
37:29up to Gwinnett County
37:30Police Headquarters.
37:31And then once we're done
37:32with the car,
37:33I'll call you.
37:34All right, that's cool.
37:35All right.
37:36I appreciate you
37:36talking with us.
37:45You're good to go.
37:46All right.
37:52I'm still convinced
37:53it's him.
37:53Yeah, the story
37:54still doesn't make sense.
37:55It doesn't make sense.
37:57It just sucks
37:58that it's like,
37:58you know it's him,
37:59but you just don't
38:00have enough.
38:01The last thing you have
38:03is going to be his phone.
38:04I know.
38:18One week later.
38:20I did a search
38:21more on the car.
38:22There was nothing
38:22remarkable in the car.
38:27This here is
38:28Tyrus Lane's phone.
38:32It seems like
38:33on the 17th
38:35through the 18th,
38:36he deleted
38:37all of his stuff.
38:40But if you go
38:42into Google,
38:43the day of the homicide,
38:4510.30,
38:46he's searching
38:46for Studio 6,
38:48which is where
38:49I believe Demetrius
38:50and Jahari
38:51were picked up from.
38:53About an hour
38:54before the 911 call,
38:56Tyrus searched
38:57for directions
38:58to the motel
38:58in Chambley,
38:59where Demetrius
39:00was staying
39:01with his relative.
39:03Then at 11.40,
39:05he puts the Studio 6
39:06back into his maps.
39:08Seven minutes
39:09before the shooting,
39:10while his car
39:11was parked
39:11on the exit ramp
39:12near the crime scene,
39:13Tyrus searched
39:14for directions
39:15back to the same motel.
39:18Then,
39:18just like an hour
39:19or so after
39:20the homicide,
39:21he's searching
39:21Google Help
39:22to delete
39:23his browser history
39:24in both his
39:26search browser
39:27and maps.
39:28Yeah,
39:29so it's hard
39:29to say
39:30that he wasn't
39:31involved.
39:33I have asked
39:34for indictment
39:35on this
39:35by the DA's office.
39:38Price will wait
39:38for the district attorney
39:39to decide
39:40if there's enough evidence
39:41to charge Tyrus Lane
39:42with the murder
39:43of Andre Jones.
39:45I feel good
39:47about it now.
39:47I think it's
39:48a pretty solid case
39:49against those three.
39:53obviously Andre
39:54didn't deserve
39:55to die.
39:56I think he was
39:57just an unfortunate
39:59target of bad rumors.

40:34one month after andre was killed thank you you're welcome beautiful his family and friends
40:42gathered to celebrate his life on his mother's birthday when he was little look just like you
40:57i thank everybody for being here and i appreciate y'all celebrating my birthday with me andre
41:05i know everybody here is still hurting i know we're all grieving and maybe this will finally
41:11give us that closure we need to continue our grieving process for me it's a little different
41:18i'm probably going to grieve for quite some time it's a child it's my child that's a hard pill to
41:24swallow to know that his life was cut short and especially by gun violence so i'm hoping that
41:32many of you or all of you will help me take up that mantle in helping with reform for gun
41:38violence
41:39so that we can help with some change especially in our communities
41:46i'm trying not to have hate and vengeance i'm trying but i can't believe someone stole his life
41:51like that there are days when i just can't breathe and i literally break down
41:58someone told me that our children are not ours god gave them to us forever long and he's called him
42:04back home so if i look at it like that then i look at it like my son was here
42:10for a purpose
42:11i think his death and the way he died was what he wanted me to do pick up that mantle
42:17and make change help with reform so maybe that's my purpose now and he gave it to me
42:25it's senseless gun violence is senseless come on let's let's do better it's time because this is
42:31with the idea of what happens
