00:31And welcome again to the big match.
00:32And three more games for you today, each of them filled with plenty of incident.
00:37For our main match, we go to Stamford Bridge for the London Derby game between Chelsea and Spurs.
00:42Nice put.
00:44Hausman's gone on.
00:45And Hausman with a chance.
00:47Oh, and he's missed it.
00:49What a miss.
00:50Also, Nottingham Forest against Leeds.
00:52Jones on the jump.
00:54And number 11 is Eddie Gray.
00:57And the goal has not been allowed.
00:59And Luton against Portsmouth.
01:02Travellecock turns.
01:03And reads leg.
01:04Here's Jennings.
01:06And there were five goals in that Luton game.
01:08A studio guest today, David Webb of Chelsea.
01:11Welcome to him.
01:11But now let's get on with the action down at Stamford Bridge yesterday between two Jekyll and Hyde sides.
01:16Chelsea, who after a dismal start to the season, now going superbly.
01:20Spurs unbeaten at home, but so far no wins away.
01:23And first of all, it's the Chelsea side.
01:25And with injuries to Boyle and Baldwin, it means a further chance for Paddy Mulligan at number two and Steve
01:30Kemba at eight.
01:32That leaves us with the Spurs side.
01:34And a close-up look at their line-up shows that full-back Cyril Knowles has recovered from an ankle
01:39injury received against Arsenal.
01:40So they are unchanged.
01:42Two great sides, then, who can cancel each other out in so many respects.
01:47Because when it comes to goal scorers, Chelsea, first of all, can point to their own Peter Osgood with 19.
01:53Spurs, meanwhile, can say, what about Martin Chivers with 24?
01:57Then, when it comes to big buys, Chelsea have £170,000 worth of Steve Kemba.
02:02And Spurs have Ralph Coates, who cost them £190,000.
02:06So as the two skippers, Martin Peters of Spurs and Ron Harris, meet, the referee is Brian Daniels of Raynham
02:12in Essex.
02:13The £52,000 crowd, the Chelsea section having plenty to say at that end.
02:17Counted at the other end by the Spurs supporters.
02:20And there's even one of those marvellous RAF police dogs as a part of the show.
02:24So Spurs, then, who've yet to win away from home this season.
02:29Kick-off, defending the goal to our left.
02:31White shirts and shorts, yellow stockings,
02:33against a Chelsea side who've won their last five games
02:36and have been unbeaten in their last ten.
02:40But in derby games, past records don't really count for too much,
02:43with so much pride at stake,
02:45with two such classy sides here.
02:47Here's Kemba.
02:50Challenged by Philip Beal.
02:52And then presented with the ball by Alan Gilsey.
02:55Hudson.
02:57Mulligan.
02:58Who is in for the injured John Boyle.
03:01Hook.
03:02Back to Hollins.
03:08Searching ball into that Spurs penalty area.
03:10And it's Pat Jennings.
03:15Chivers going fast for that one.
03:17And what a beautiful little lay-off for Neymar.
03:20Dempsey coming across.
03:21He's lost to Chivers for the moment.
03:24But we're picking up Coates and turning the ball into touch for Tottenham's throw.
03:29Chivers already going across to take it.
03:32And that means one of those effortless long throws of his into that Chelsea goal mouth.
03:38Ray Evans.
03:41And Beal.
03:43Peters getting ahead to it.
03:45Dempsey also.
03:47And now Kemba.
03:49Kemba and Coates there.
03:51Hollins.
03:54Two sides who are soon to meet in the semi-finals of the Football League Cup.
04:01First leg of which is here just before Christmas.
04:04And the second one at Tottenham early in the new year.
04:09Hudson with the throw for Chelsea.
04:15Hudson.
04:16Hudson.
04:18Perryman there scuffling in.
04:20Hudson finding Hollins who was on another good run.
04:23And that should be a corner to Chelsea.
04:25The ball going off Martin Peters.
04:28So Pat Jennings.
04:30Who will be put under pressure.
04:31Knowles at the far post.
04:33Evans at the near post.
04:36Mike England right in there too.
04:38Hudson with the corner.
04:39And that wasn't far away.
04:41But the touch came off the Chelsea player.
04:44Either Osgood or Dempsey who was right up.
04:50Knowles who was having a fine season for Tottenham.
04:52But he was doubtful yesterday with an ankle injury received in the Arsenal match.
04:56But now Cook.
04:57And Osgood in a lot of space on the right for him.
05:00Hudson going hard into the middle.
05:01And Hausman too.
05:03Still Osgood.
05:06And now Cook.
05:07And he turned it in.
05:09No he can't.
05:10And Peters right back there.
05:12Taking a push from his own goalkeeper.
05:14But Spurs for a second or two.
05:16Were in tremendous trouble.
05:19And Chelsea at the moment in these opening five minutes.
05:23Are making the running.
05:25Hudson.
05:28Oh between the legs of Gilsane to Hollins.
05:31A little dink again.
05:32And Osgood hoping to get on the end of it.
05:34And Tottenham's goal kick.
05:39Oh Peter Osgood already showing a bit of appetite for this match.
05:42Perhaps needing a big occasion to pull out the best of him.
05:51Tudor and Perrievon.
05:53And Perrievon.
05:55Coates.
05:59No.
06:02Coates once more.
06:05Perriman, good tackle there by Perriman
06:07never shoots a tackle
06:10first time in there by Peters
06:12but now it's Cook again for Chelsea
06:14Mulligan
06:21and the feet were high on Marnin Peters
06:23and so it's a free kick for Spurs
06:31Coates going towards that Chelsea penalty area
06:33knows to take the free kick
06:37Chivers in fact getting ahead to that one
06:39and Chelsea holding off a moment
06:42and now Kemper to bring it away for them
06:46Mulligan
06:48and Hudson
06:52good jump there by Hausman
06:55now it's Cook
06:57Hausman's gone on
06:58and Hausman with a chance
07:00oh and he's missed it
07:01what a miss
07:05again that's Spurs defence
07:08left wanting
07:09and it was Ray Evans who was in the middle of it
07:12and Hausman who surely should have put Chelsea ahead
07:16well he'll be furious with himself for that
07:20chances in the first division don't come easier than that
07:23and then he'll be able to help them in the middle of it
07:37and he'll be able to hold off and he'll be able to put Chelsea in the middle of it
07:51Cook with the shot but it's over
07:52and Osgood is down
07:54and it really was a bad tackle by Mike England
07:57and the referee coming across
07:59towards that situation but away from England
08:02Mike England
08:03probably a little conscious that he was
08:04leaving Osgood a yard or two free
08:06when that situation developed
08:11well Osgood alright again
08:13some strapping round his right foot
08:15as you can see
08:19and Pat Jennings to take the goal kick
08:28Dempsey
08:31Haussmann leaning on Evans
08:33and in fact Evans penalised
08:34and I wouldn't have thought there was too much
08:36he could have done about that
08:39he kept his eye on the ball
08:40and he had Haussmann pushing into him
08:42and a chance for Hollins
08:44to blast another of those famous free kicks of his
08:47no it's Hudson instead to chip it over
08:49Osgood right in there
08:50just passed
08:58brilliantly conceived free kick there by Chelsea
09:01Spurs stealing themselves for the
09:04drive from Hollins
09:06now Neibor
09:08invitingly in space
09:10Hudson pursuing him
09:14Perryman
09:17Neibor
09:17Evans making the overlap for him
09:20that's the ball for Ray Evans
09:21good cross by Evans
09:23and a corner to Tottenham
09:29well I would think that'll make Evans feel a little happier
09:31and certainly some of his form against Arsenal was good
09:33Burnetti doing his share of shouting
09:35good break by Ray Evans
09:41Neibor with a kick
09:42Mulligan waiting for it
09:45Neibor turning it back first time there
09:47and now Peters
09:48oh and a fine save
09:49and it's not away yet
09:52Hudson
09:52and it's still not away
09:53but a fine save there
09:56reflex save by Burnetti
09:58from Martin Peters
09:59Chelsea now
10:00with foot
10:08and down goes Jennings
10:10that ball
10:11skidding across that patch of mud
10:12in that goal mouth
10:13not making it easy for him
10:15Chelsea manager Dave Sexton
10:16has deserted his
10:18crow's nest
10:19on the top of the stand
10:20obviously wants a little change of tactics somewhere
10:22having a good work with Chris Garland on the left
10:24the Chelsea substitute
10:27now Kemba
10:30Hudson
10:30and Oscar trying to get in with the head
10:32and it fell just behind Cook
10:34and Kemba
10:35and to safety for Tottenham
10:49Dempsey
10:50a little moment ago
10:54it looked as though Martin Peters
10:55was the player who was more seriously hurt
10:57Ron Harris
10:58who's just played that one forward
10:59seems to be struggling a good deal more than Peters at the moment
11:02but Osgood turning that ball in nicely
11:04for Kemba
11:05but Herriman doing tremendous covering again for Tottenham
11:10Noles
11:16Gilzeen
11:16and Noles to Chivers
11:18desperately trying to get away from that Chelsea defence
11:20and succeeding in finding Gilzeen
11:22but that's Harris
11:25and now Dempsey
11:33Hudson to Harris
11:37Ron Harris still obviously not feeling himself
11:43Hollins
11:45got a space there for him
11:47and a long range shot
11:47but
11:49wide enough
11:53Hollins who really has had
11:54a good scoring record this season
11:56with 11 goals
11:57four of them from penalties
12:04Dempsey
12:04Dempsey doing a bit of pushing to get his head to it
12:06and being penalised for it
12:07Tottenham's free kick
12:08on Chivers
12:14Harris who really does seem to be feeling the effects of the knock he had moments ago
12:28Webb
12:29letting Cook go ahead with it
12:30probably one of the most encouraging sights of all in any afternoon for Chelsea
12:33is when Charlie Cook badly wants to get a touch of the ball all the time
12:38good play there by Hollins
12:40but Peters to cut it out
12:42now to Coates
12:45Neva
12:53off Harris
12:54for Kepa
12:57Osgood
12:57followed by England
12:59although it's deep into that Chelsea half
13:00Hudson
13:01Mulligan
13:14Hudson
13:14Hudson taking this one
13:18to Cook
13:21Beal watching him
13:23and Knowles
13:26and he still gets away with it
13:27beautiful play there by Cook
13:29in such a confined space
13:30Mulligan
13:31to turn it in once more.
13:33Osgood, on his body.
13:34Beautiful skills by Osgood,
13:36but not quite the shot at the end to magic.
13:40What a lovely piece of artistic play by Peter Osgood
13:45in a game that so far in the first half hour
13:48has certainly had no shortage of really talented football.
13:53And in that respect, Charlie Cook has played his part too.
13:57Hudson.
14:03And Evans.
14:05And another throw to Chelsea,
14:06and certainly after their patchy form
14:07in the opening part of the season,
14:09it's quite easy to see why Chelsea have had this good recent run
14:12as Beal gets in that time and concedes the corner.
14:15And we're now well into injury time at the end of the first half.
14:20Beal and Perryman who've done a wonderful job for Spurs
14:24and really done so much to keep them afloat
14:27on level terms at 0-0.
14:30Caps now facing the last crisis of the first half
14:33as Hudson takes the corner for Chelsea.
14:36Webb going in.
14:38And Hudson again.
14:42Good piece of play there by Evans,
14:44coming out so quickly to make it difficult for Hudson.
14:48Hudson with room to cross it once more.
14:51And a header there,
14:52and a good save by Jennings from Charlie Cook.
15:03And really it would have been no injustice
15:04on the run of the play of the first half
15:06if Chelsea had gone in with that one goal lead.
15:11Where the Spurs are conscious of their pour-away record,
15:14they look a very withdrawn side so far this afternoon,
15:17and really have had just this one shot
15:21saved by Peter Bonetti from Martin Peters.
15:25Certainly had this hard game against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
15:29But Chelsea had this testimonial match on Tuesday against Rangers.
15:33Now Neva.
15:38The twinkling skills,
15:40but the ball into touch again for Chelsea's throw.
15:43But a highly skilful first half,
15:45and a very entertaining one as well.
15:47Just that one commodity goals missing at the moment.
15:54So there's the half-time whistle with two sides
15:56who really looked up to their entertainment value,
15:59certainly in the first half,
16:00and particularly Chelsea.
16:04With Peter Hausman,
16:05who had a brilliant smell,
16:06but certainly missed an open goal
16:07that would have put them ahead.
16:09Still to come for you to enjoy
16:10on the big match this afternoon.
16:11Highlights from Nottingham Forest against Leeds United,
16:14and Luton Town against Portsmouth.
16:16But the half-time score here
16:18at a packed Stamford Bridge
16:19is Chelsea nil, Spurs nil,
16:22and we'll be back with you in a couple of minutes.
16:37So Chelsea then,
16:38who've had so much of the first half,
16:40get us away now at the start of the second.
16:42Hollins.
16:42Hollins.
16:45Liesman flagging for a push,
16:47presumably by Ray Evans on Peter Hausman.
16:50No, he's given it the other way.
16:51The referee, in fact,
16:54seemed to think it was that way as well,
16:56but the Liesman indicating
16:56that it was probably an offside decision.
17:11Mulligan.
17:14Mulligan again.
17:17Veal once more there,
17:18I suppose.
17:24Kemba.
17:30And now it's Gilsey.
17:35Chivers fighting for the ball there,
17:38which is something he wasn't doing
17:39to very good effect in the first half.
17:42And I'm sure one of the Chelsea substitutes
17:44dying to get on,
17:46Chris Garland,
17:47the £100,000 man from Bristol City.
17:54Gilsey.
17:55Nice ball there for Perryman.
17:57And now for Evans.
18:01Labour.
18:03Beaten by Harris.
18:04Evans versus Harris.
18:05And Harris comes away with it,
18:06and Evans is down,
18:07holding his leg.
18:09Osgood.
18:12And now it's Coates.
18:15Turned nicely there for Gilsey.
18:18And Martin Peters having a word with the referee.
18:20I think he fears that Ray Evans might be badly hurt.
18:26Now it's Coates.
18:28Now Beal.
18:31Beal putting it in touch
18:33so that the trainer can come on
18:34to have a look at Ray Evans.
18:40Spurs give her Alan Mullery,
18:41who's having this stomach trouble.
18:45An injury there that is taking a bit of time to heal
18:48and looking anxiously there towards Ray Evans.
18:53And young John Pratt,
18:55who filled the number four shirt of Alan Mullery for a few weeks
18:57and did it to a very good effect too.
18:59Well, Evans,
19:00not too badly the worst for wear.
19:09Cook.
19:16Back to Mulligan.
19:18Long driving ball there towards Haussmann.
19:21Osgood right in there too.
19:23Was it handball?
19:24The Leisman is flagging.
19:26But is he going to give it inside?
19:27Jimmy Neighbours hand.
19:28It was that the ball touched.
19:31Osgood smiling away.
19:33I think he half suspected that was a penalty
19:35and it would be very interesting to look back
19:37and see whether, in fact,
19:39that ball was just inside the area
19:40or just outside it.
19:43The referee is saying
19:44it was a good two yards outside.
19:46Jimmy Neighbours, I would think,
19:47vastly relieved.
19:47The free kick then to Chelsea.
19:49Between Hollins
19:51and Hudson.
19:56And just passed from Hollins.
19:59I don't think even Pat Jennings
20:04for all his flying dive
20:06could have got to that one.
20:11Skipper getting some advice from the touchline.
20:14Oh, a push there by Webb on Peters.
20:17Unmistakable.
20:19Whatever David Webb may say,
20:20that must have been a push on Martin Peters.
20:27And he gives Spurs the free kick.
20:35I wonder if we can get another of those.
20:37Martin Peters flicks over the wall.
20:39He's put it for Chivers
20:40to hit it first time.
20:48Must be a long time
20:49since Martin Peters
20:50has had so quiet a game as this.
20:52Might fire it away
20:53as Tottenham's top scorer last season
20:55and 24 already to his credit this season.
20:58And really without a shot so far.
21:00Chelsea trainer Harry Medhurst,
21:02their former goalkeeper
21:02and West Ham too, of course.
21:07Chains his mind about playing it for Chivers,
21:09but now Chivers might get another chance.
21:10No, Webb in the touch again
21:12with Spurs' long throw
21:14with Martin Chivers.
21:18Again, no effort.
21:19Put all the distance you would want
21:21and Gilzeen turning it back.
21:23Coates now.
21:24And down goes Benetti from Ralph Coates.
21:32Go in the long throw
21:33that causes a certain amount of trouble.
21:55Cyril Knowles.
22:01Great challenge there by Chivers on Mulligan.
22:04Gilzeen to lay that off nicely for Coates.
22:07Evans has gone streaking down the right
22:08for Tottenham
22:09and that's beautifully weighted
22:10by Coates for Evans.
22:12And a corner to Spurs.
22:18That was much more like Ralph Coates as well.
22:20A beautifully weighted ball there
22:22for Evans down the right.
22:23Neighbours going across
22:24to take the corner
22:25and England has come right up for it.
22:29Osgood back with him.
22:35They thought about a short one for a moment.
22:37Now Neighbours, a long one.
22:40Peters there with his head.
22:42Mulligan now for Chelsea.
22:50Beal versus Cook.
22:53And Beal a long way back
22:54to Pat Jennings.
23:03Chivers again beaten in the air
23:04that time by David Webb.
23:05And now it's with Hudson.
23:08John Hollands.
23:17Chivers.
23:20Neighbours.
23:29Dempsey.
23:30Hudson.
23:31Good play by Chelsea.
23:32Dempsey to Osgood.
23:35Falling for Hudson.
23:38Swept nicely there for Kemba.
23:41A little fortunate.
23:41It hit him on the back.
23:45Aimed again.
23:46There.
23:47A chance for Cook.
23:47And a goal!
23:49For Chelsea by Charlie Cook.
23:56Beautiful ball, though,
23:57in the first place
23:58that set it up
24:01for Kemba on the right.
24:02and Cook taking his cross superbly
24:05to give Jennings no chance.
24:10So Chelsea then,
24:12leading by a goal to nil
24:13with 16 minutes of the second half gone.
24:17And that was only
24:18Charlie Cook's third goal of the season.
24:26And now Spurs
24:27with this bad away record.
24:29Remember,
24:30they haven't won away from home this season.
24:33Face a Chelsea that are a goal up
24:34and a Chelsea side
24:36that have conceded only five goals
24:38in their last ten games.
24:42So a wonderful defensive record
24:44that Spurs have got to break now.
24:45Webb
24:45to take the free kick for Chelsea.
24:54Osgood winning it in the air.
24:55Cook
24:55the first timer
24:56but Jennings behind it.
25:02Knowles.
25:08Webb
25:09to head it away
25:10but that's Perryman.
25:11Now Coates.
25:12Naver on the right.
25:15But well taken out by Harris.
25:16Naver if anything
25:17looked just a little lightweight
25:18this afternoon.
25:20And the Chelsea supporters
25:23scarves a lot.
25:24Delighted with that one goalie.
25:29Perryman to Peters.
25:32Good shot there by Peters
25:33and he called for a good save too
25:35from Bonetti.
25:37Took that short pass
25:38from Perryman well
25:39and with men closing in on him
25:40still got it in.
25:45Chivers first to react to that
25:48ball that was allowed to go
25:49a surprisingly long way.
25:51But now Harris.
25:56Cook.
25:59and Chelsea's throw.
26:07Good piece of play by Hausman.
26:09Cook.
26:11And now Hollins
26:12with a chance to hit one
26:14just past that Spurs post again.
26:24for Gilzean.
26:25Now Nose.
26:34That's a little one-two there
26:35with John Pratt
26:36to substitute on for Gilzean.
26:38Naver.
26:40Pratt.
26:44Cross there for Peters
26:45to go
26:45storming in on it.
26:49Hudson.
26:50Mulligan.
26:51A long way clear.
26:52Mulligan really has had
26:53a good game.
26:55Evans to Coates.
26:59Evans again.
27:00A chance to cross this one.
27:01So much room for him
27:02to do it.
27:03And Chivers.
27:04And he quite couldn't
27:06force it home.
27:07Very nearly got in there
27:08to force it home.
27:13But very good
27:14brave goalkeeping
27:15by Peter Bonetti.
27:17And Chelsea winning
27:18the free kick.
27:25Good pass by Evans too.
27:31Peters forward again
27:33but Webb
27:33as safe as he has been
27:35the whole afternoon.
27:36Mulligan.
27:39And now Hollins.
27:44And now goes
27:45Houseman.
27:45He's all right.
27:46He's onside.
27:47But Jennings is there
27:48before him.
27:57England.
28:01To Evans.
28:06Knowles.
28:07Just a shade over
28:08two minutes left now.
28:10Peters.
28:11They've really got to
28:12manufacture something
28:13out of nothing now.
28:14Spurs.
28:15And here's Ray Evans
28:15surging forward
28:16for him again.
28:18Coates.
28:21Fair look across there.
28:22Peters going in.
28:23And just over
28:24from Martin Chivers.
28:27And that's it.
28:29Chelsea take their
28:30run of wins
28:31to six.
28:32And Spurs
28:33have still
28:33the win away
28:34from home.
28:35Charlie Cook.
28:36The man who scored
28:37the only goal
28:38of a high class game
28:40full of the right
28:41sort of talents
28:41here at Stamford Bridge
28:43this afternoon.
28:46Chelsea now take it
28:47to 11 without a win.
28:48Without defeat.
28:53Steve Kemba coming
28:55off and Charlie Cook.
28:56So much invention
28:57in this Chelsea attack.
29:00So the final score
29:01here at Stamford Bridge
29:02this afternoon.
29:03Chelsea 1.
29:05Spurs 0.
29:07And the Chelsea
29:08manager Dave Sexton
29:09and chairman Brian Mears
29:10both confirmed afterwards
29:11that that was probably
29:12Chelsea's best home
29:12performance of the season.
29:13Spurs manager Bill
29:14Nicholson would simply say
29:15we were very
29:16disappointing.
29:26Still to come for you
29:27today to enjoy
29:28your highlights
29:28of Nottingham Forest
29:29against Leeds
29:30and Luton
29:30against Portsmouth.
29:32But now let's meet
29:32a man who had a couple
29:33of stitches in a head wound
29:34after that game
29:34at Chelsea yesterday.
29:35Chelsea defender
29:36David Webb.
29:37With him Jimmy Hill.
29:38Last time you were on
29:39David we could see
29:39the stitches.
29:40This time they're hidden
29:41under that beautiful hair.
29:42But Chelsea's great
29:43improvement yesterday
29:44everybody enjoyed
29:45that game.
29:46Coming sort of
29:47at the end of a long run
29:48of better performances
29:49when you were knocked
29:49out of Europe.
29:50What's brought the difference?
29:52I think it's
29:53an all-round belief
29:54in each other.
29:55I think that's
29:56particularly what's
29:58instigated a change
29:59in the mood
30:01and everything.
30:01We've got players
30:02all wanting to play
30:03for each other
30:03helping each other
30:05working for each other
30:06and I think it showed up
30:07yesterday against Tottenham.
30:08Were you a bit
30:08complacent at the start
30:09of the season?
30:10I think complacency
30:12starts from
30:13a feeling of
30:14overconfidence
30:15which possibly we had
30:16last year when we
30:17played Real Madrid.
30:18We came back
30:19we had a very short
30:20summer
30:21and we came back
30:23and probably we had
30:25a little bit of a
30:25hangover from the
30:26Real Madrid game.
30:27A hangover?
30:28I mean a hangover.
30:29You're not going to be
30:29a hangover.
30:31What about individual
30:32performances of players
30:33during that time
30:34who've suddenly improved?
30:36Well, I don't think
30:37anyone can outshine
30:39Alan Hudson for his
30:39improvement
30:40and Peter Burnetti
30:42at the back.
30:44Alan Hudson
30:45played a big part
30:46in that goal yesterday
30:47and I think that's
30:48probably his finest
30:49game of the season.
30:50I was a bit disappointed
30:51in the way from a
30:52very promising start
30:53he'd slipped back
30:53but he seems to have
30:54recaptured all of his
30:55old form.
30:56He had a tremendous
30:57start to this goal.
30:58Well, he's absolutely
30:59he's got his old
31:01feeling back again.
31:02He plays this one-two
31:03with John Dempsey
31:04back again
31:05and John does a
31:06terrific ball up here
31:07to Peter Osgood
31:09and this type of
31:10move that...
31:11Ozzy's showing no
31:12mean skill there
31:13to get away from
31:15Mike England's
31:15sliding tackle
31:16but it's this ball
31:17that spreads out the
31:18play that really
31:19opens up the defence.
31:20There are four Spurs
31:21players there beaten
31:21as it's aimed away
31:23for them and a little
31:23behind trap there
31:24by Steve Kemba
31:26but as the cross
31:27comes over I think
31:28Cyril Noles won't
31:29want to see this very
31:30much because he
31:30ducks his head
31:31and takes his eye
31:32off the ball there
31:32leaving Charlie Cook
31:34not much time
31:35but he didn't need
31:36very much time
31:37and he flashed it
31:38straight in the net.
31:40What's brought about
31:41this with Alan Hudson?
31:42I'm very interested
31:43in this young lad
31:44because the first
31:45time I saw him
31:45I thought what a
31:46tremendous talent
31:47he had and then
31:48suddenly it all
31:50appeared to just
31:51fritter away.
31:52Well, I think he had
31:54a very big disappointment
31:55the other year when
31:56we was in the cup
31:57final and
31:59he's taken him
32:00a year or so
32:00to get over it
32:01I mean he's still
32:01a very young fella
32:03and he's just got
32:04married and he's
32:04got a stability
32:05now that possibly
32:06he may not have
32:06had I don't know
32:07but what he's done
32:08now he's brought
32:09himself back into
32:10line and he's a
32:11much more mature
32:11player than I've
32:12ever seen.
32:12Tremendous performance
32:13yesterday but
32:14extraordinarily enough
32:15although people
32:15might have said
32:16you should have
32:16won by three or
32:17four goals in the
32:18end of course you
32:18could have you
32:19almost let a draw
32:20get into the score
32:22sheets.
32:22Yeah, well I think
32:23that was particularly
32:24my fault you know
32:25there was a time
32:26there I let Martin
32:27Chivers get behind
32:28me and he had a
32:29blinding header.
32:30What about in the
32:31first half though
32:32there was this
32:33point blank save
32:34there from before
32:36we look at that
32:36one from Martin
32:37Peters.
32:38Those reactions of
32:40Peter Bonetti
32:41quite fantastic.
32:43Now let's look at
32:43that second half
32:44one where you've
32:44already taken the
32:45blame but we can
32:47see really who it
32:48was who pulled you
32:49out of trouble.
32:51there's the cross
32:54you've got caught
32:54with Chivers but
32:55Peter Bonetti the
32:57cat on the floor
32:58he's had a spell
33:00people still talk
33:01about his World Cup
33:02performance very
33:03unfairly in a way
33:04you know it's one of
33:04those things that's
33:05always dragged up
33:06but over the past
33:07few weeks you've
33:07hardly let in any
33:08goals at all
33:09his form has been
33:10remarkable.
33:10Very remarkable
33:11I think what Peter
33:13is so good at is
33:13that when he's not
33:14in the game he's
33:16actually in it
33:16because the ball
33:17will come up our
33:18end of the field
33:19and all of a sudden
33:20he'll have to be in
33:21the game and a lot
33:22of goalkeepers can't
33:22respond so quickly
33:23but Peter responds
33:24very quickly and
33:25you always find a
33:26ball that's flashing
33:27past you you think
33:27oh he's you know
33:28that's in and he's
33:30always leaping
33:30across his goal
33:31and pulling them
33:32down.
33:32Marvellous.
33:33Well it was a very
33:33good all-round
33:34performance yesterday
33:35how do you see the
33:35rest of the season
33:36going for Chelsea
33:37you're in the
33:37semi-final of the
33:38League Cup you're
33:39still in the FA Cup
33:40I mean not had a
33:40chance to be knocked
33:41out the league
33:42you're beginning to
33:43creep up on all
33:44the other London
33:44clubs.
33:46Well if I was to
33:47be a gambling man
33:48it's just the way
33:48I'd like to see my
33:49horse win a race.
33:51For the league?
33:52For anything because
33:53I think you know
33:54it's just the right
33:54time of the season
33:55to start going
33:56it's just like I'd
33:57like to see my
33:57horse start to come
33:58to win a race in a
34:00mile race or
34:01something.
34:02Well all the Chelsea
34:03Stallions there at
34:04Stamford Bridge they
34:05certainly showed
34:06class form yesterday
34:07and let's hope David
34:08that they continue to
34:09do that for the rest
34:10of the season.
34:11I hope you're right
34:11Jim.
34:12It's worth watching.
34:14Well in fact it
34:15was worth watching
34:16yesterday and I
34:16thoroughly enjoyed it
34:17but there were just a
34:17couple of tackles which
34:19I want to draw your
34:19attention to.
34:20The first one by Mike
34:21England on Peter
34:23Osgood and what you
34:24have to decide here as
34:25Hollies plays the ball
34:26over is whether in
34:27fact Mike England was
34:29going for the ball or
34:30whether he was going
34:31for the man.
34:31He lunges his foot
34:33through it's a typical
34:33England tackle but I
34:35think one could say
34:35there although Osgood
34:36fell very heavily that
34:38there was some
34:39justification in
34:40arguing that England
34:41went for the ball
34:42there as hard as he
34:43in fact did go for it
34:44but the second tackle
34:45which Ron Harris makes
34:46on Ray Evans I see no
34:48justification in
34:49claiming anything else
34:50but it's the kind of
34:51tackle that we can do
34:52without on football
34:53fields.
34:54Just look now you'll
34:56see Harris in the
34:56dark shirt there win
34:58the ball and then
34:59chase in after it.
35:00This is in slow motion
35:01and it's the tackle in
35:02its entirety.
35:03Now we'll look again
35:05and stop the action
35:06just at the point where
35:08Harris goes in for
35:09that ball Evans has
35:10gone for the ball
35:11Harris' foot is clearly
35:12over the top of the
35:13ball and I sat very
35:15close to that incident
35:16yesterday and from my
35:18seat I would have
35:19certainly taken Harris'
35:20name for that one
35:20tackle and most
35:21probably would have
35:22sent him off because
35:23that is a kind of
35:24dangerous tackle in
35:25football that I
35:25certainly for one don't
35:26want to see.
35:27So much for those two
35:28incidents.
35:28What about Spurs?
35:30Well for me it cleared
35:31up the mystery of Spurs
35:32yesterday because they
35:32played so well when we've
35:33gone to White Hart Lane
35:34I wondered why they
35:36couldn't win matches
35:36away.
35:37The answer is very
35:38simple.
35:38Their players don't
35:39fight and tackle hard
35:40enough to gather points
35:42consistently away from
35:43their home ground.
35:44I think it was
35:44typified most with an
35:46old player and a young
35:46player.
35:47Alan Gilzean didn't
35:48seem to relish the game
35:49at all yesterday and in
35:50the end was pulled off
35:51and young Jimmy
35:52Neighbour there who is
35:54obviously still learning
35:55the game and plays so
35:56well in front of his own
35:57crowd showed that there's
35:58a lot more to learn about
35:59football for him yet
36:00before he can give a
36:01contribution both home and
36:03away.
36:03So the Spurs mystery
36:04cleared up.
36:05A wonderful afternoon's
36:06entertainment for all of
36:07us and a question mark
36:09over the future of both
36:10London clubs.
36:11I suppose the real
36:12questions being are
36:13Chelsea coming up on the
36:14reels as David Webb
36:15suggests and what are
36:16Spurs going to do about
36:17that away form?
36:18Maybe those questions
36:18could be answered in
36:19those tremendous League
36:20Cup semi-finals that are
36:21coming up.
36:22But now it's time for some
36:23more action and for that
36:24we go to Luton where it
36:25hasn't really been a very
36:25happy season for them.
36:27I noticed that yesterday
36:28the Luton supporters club
36:29were handing out leaflets
36:30saying please support our
36:31team a little more.
36:32Well let's see how that
36:33worked out as we pick up
36:34Luton against Portsmouth,
36:36commentator Jerry Harrison
36:37and Luton are in white.
36:40There's Chris Nicholl
36:43conceding the first corner
36:44of the game in the second
36:47minute.
36:48Owen Hand is at the back of
36:50the penalty area.
36:51So is Jenkins.
36:53Reynolds going to the near
36:54post, the short one,
36:55right across the face of the
36:56area.
36:58Keen there to get it away.
36:59And there it is from
37:01Reynolds.
37:03And what an abject piece
37:06of luck for Luton.
37:07Mike Keen's header hitting
37:11Reynolds here and leaving
37:13Tony Reid the goalkeeper
37:14absolutely helpless.
37:21Busby a flick on.
37:22Straight to Yulden though.
37:24To hand.
37:26McCann.
37:28Portsmouth seem to have
37:29just that little bit more
37:30time and just that little
37:31bit more accuracy and
37:32here's Leigh going for a
37:32good ball from McCann.
37:34Over the far side now
37:35four Portsmouth players
37:36if he can get a cross in.
37:37Jabril Cox the far man
37:38but he's got to get past
37:40Givens first and Givens
37:41gives it back to McCann
37:42anyhow.
37:45Good play by McCann.
37:46Can he try one?
37:47Reynolds going to shoot.
37:50And so easy from that
37:51distance.
37:54But made by McCann
37:56an error in the first place
37:58by Givens
38:00and half the Luton
38:02town defense standing still
38:03and Portsmouth go two up.
38:10Oh and Yulden flicking it past
38:12almost caused more trouble
38:14with it.
38:15And now at last
38:16a roar of support
38:17from this Luton crowd.
38:21Another one.
38:22Number seven.
38:25Six minutes into the second half.
38:27Gordon Heinsen.
38:28Keane coming to the near post.
38:29Out comes Stanton
38:30changes his mind.
38:32Keane.
38:37Well that is the breakthrough
38:39and the man who thoroughly
38:42deserves it.
38:46Ten men.
38:49Now it's 2-1.
38:51And Mike Keane
38:52with his second goal
38:54of the season
38:56puts Luton in
38:57with some sort of a chance.
39:06Well out by
39:07Nickel under terrific pressure.
39:08Keane thumbing it away.
39:14Very little width
39:15in the
39:16Luton attack.
39:17Of course
39:18they can't afford it
39:18really with
39:19only playing with
39:20only ten men
39:21but
39:21it means the flanks
39:22are
39:23quite useless
39:24very often.
39:29quickly in there
39:30by Nickel
39:31and now it's
39:31Luton breaking again.
39:33Here's Heinsen
39:33can he turn one up
39:34and try one?
39:35Heinsen
39:35oh he's there!
39:37And Stanton
39:38absolutely helpless
39:40with that one.
39:41It was slow
39:41across his goal
39:42but give the credit
39:44to Gordon Heinsen
39:45and the salute says
39:47that's his first goal
39:49for Luton.
39:51And what a time
39:52to get it.
39:54And there goes
39:55Gibbons
39:55he doesn't look like
39:56as if he's got an injury
39:57now
39:58it's always
39:59in the post
40:02and Gibbons
40:03the limp
40:03suddenly comes back
40:04but here's Anderson
40:05Anderson
40:06going to get one
40:07oh he's there
40:14and with
40:15three minutes to go
40:17it's
40:18Anderson
40:25but most of the
40:27congratulations
40:28of the
40:29Luton players
40:30going over the
