00:00You have to try this with the wasabi.
00:02The wasabi is so hot!
00:03It's not that spicy.
00:04You sure?
00:05Yeah.
00:06Only because you said so.
00:10I felt the wasabi instantly.
00:12You felt it? You felt it?
00:13Oh my god, that is so hot.
00:15Oh my god.
00:15I'm sorry.
00:18Wait a minute.
00:19Tetris!
00:20Is that the prettiest man in South Korea, even when it's raining?
00:25How are you?
00:26I'm good. How are you?
00:27I'm good.
00:27Where did you bring me today?
00:30I love this place.
00:31It's open 24-7, so you can come here any time of day.
00:34But I wanted to take you here because it's something special.
00:37Okay, I heard there's a lot of wild things on the inside.
00:40There's a lot of wild things.
00:41And we're going to eat them?
00:42We're going to eat them today.
00:44Okay, well show me what you got, Joshua.
00:45Let's do this.
00:46Let's go, let's go.
00:56Are there multiple places like this in Korea?
00:59Well, this is a place that's, I think, most famous around Seoul.
01:04A lot of people come here just to like do casual drinking.
01:07Oh, so you can like drink and hang out here too.
01:08Yeah, you can drink, hang out.
01:10Oh, wow.
01:10So you pick like the food from here and you go to a restaurant.
01:13There are like restaurants that you can eat at.
01:16You just say, hey Nemo, I want you.
01:19Yeah.
01:19Basically, before the prices, I think it depends on the season.
01:22So like it might be more expensive like this season.
01:25Like in the winter, it might be more expensive for a certain fish.
01:29So do you have favorites?
01:30Like, do you have go-to fish you always get?
01:32I always get like the mix because you could get the variety of like everything.
01:37So you could get like salmon, you could get like mackerel.
01:40You could get all of that in one plate.
01:42So I usually get the combination.
01:43And they're going to cut it here.
01:45Basically, yeah.
01:46This is crazy.
01:47You pick up the fish that you want to eat and then they cut it here.
01:50All right, Joshua.
01:51Well, I guess we need to pick our fish.
01:53Let's do it.
01:59Let's do it.
02:08Hmm.
02:08So this type of fish is in season right now.
02:12So he recommends this fish.
02:19So this is the one that's like,
02:21straight from the ocean.
02:22It's pure white.
02:23Wow.
02:24Belly.
02:38This tastes a lot better.
02:40Oh, so it's like this is a bread fish and then that one's in the ocean.
02:42I got you.
02:44So we only get the best stuff because we're with you basically.
02:47Let's do it.
02:47Let's do it.
02:48So we're going to get this, which is in season right now, but I want to get the mixture.
02:53The mix.
02:54So we could get a variety of like fish.
02:56Okay.
02:57Let's do it.
02:57Let's do it.
02:58I'm going to try it all nervously.
03:00Okay.
03:00Let's do it.
03:01Let's go upstairs.
03:04All right then.
03:06So I guess we go to the restaurant.
03:07Let's do it.
03:08All right.
03:08He's going to prepare it.
03:09I think the craziest thing to me right now is last time I saw you, we were like hanging
03:14out backstage at the Golden Globes.
03:15Right.
03:15And then now we're at like a fish market in Korea.
03:18It's a very different vibe.
03:20Definitely.
03:21Definitely.
03:21And I mean, you're from LA.
03:22So does this like compare at all to like Korea town or the food?
03:26I mean, obviously you would probably say this is better.
03:29Uh, it's, there's nothing like this in Korea.
03:31Right.
03:32That's what I'm saying.
03:33So when I first came to Korea, this is what one of my friends recommended to me to come.
03:38Cause it's something very new.
03:39It's a new experience.
03:40And now like if my friends come from the States, I always take them here.
03:44Oh, well, thank you.
03:46Yeah.
03:46I feel so honored.
03:50Well, I gotta say, man, there was no better way to land into Korea than going straight to
03:55your show.
03:56Oh, bro.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Like, Oh my God.
03:58Super everything.
03:59It was so good.
04:00But we got to talk about the rain.
04:02Have you seen how viral you are?
04:04No, I just found out about that.
04:07That video, that one video that the fan took.
04:10Yeah.
04:10Cause I was watching that.
04:11I was like, okay, so how close were they to you?
04:15Because it's like, you're in the camera dripping in rain.
04:18So did you know like what was happening in that moment?
04:21No.
04:22So I didn't know it was going to rain that much.
04:24And my hair was down.
04:26I didn't want it to be like messy.
04:27So I just put it like all the way.
04:29I slicked it back, but I didn't know if it looked okay.
04:32So I asked the fan in the front at the VIP seat.
04:35Oh, wait.
04:35Can I use your phone as a mirror?
04:37Stop.
04:37You asked them?
04:37Yeah.
04:38Let me use your phone as a mirror, please.
04:40They were like, okay, let me fix my hair.
04:42And I was asking them, do I look okay?
04:44They were like, yeah.
04:45Yeah.
04:45Oh my God.
04:46And that video went viral.
04:47So crazy.
04:48It's all over my timeline.
04:49I was like, Joshua in the rain.
04:51That was crazy.
04:51But how was it emotionally for you guys?
04:53This was like the last show of the tour, you know, before pretty big breaks coming up.
04:56Yeah.
04:57It was like an emotional ride.
04:58Cause it was, we had the tour for like nine months and it was finally like the end basically.
05:04So I teared up the first day and the second day I was like, no, I'm going to like show
05:09like how happy I am.
05:11And we released a news that we're like, we're going to go together as 13 once again.
05:16Yeah.
05:17The contracts.
05:17Yeah.
05:18Everybody was so excited about that because I feel like, you know, with your culture, people get so like, what's
05:22going to happen when they go to military and stuff.
05:23And so you guys uniting and saying, Hey, we signed our contracts.
05:26I think it was really big news for your fans.
05:28Yeah.
05:28We've been talking about this contract for like over six months and we're really happy to sign together.
05:35We're just really happy as a team.
05:36I always feel that we work the best together.
05:39We have the best energy together and that's what all of our fans like.
05:42So, and yeah, that's how it happened.
05:45Even hearing you say that me over here, I'm like, I love my team.
05:47I love my crew.
05:48It's like so good that you guys are sticking together.
05:54And how was it to like kind of have the staggered breaks where somebody's going and somebody else is going?
05:58How do you guys handle that time?
06:00I think we're using this time to explore like new parts of ourself because we worked as one team for
06:06so long.
06:07So working as units, like we're showing like new colors to our fans and showing them.
06:13Yeah, this is like the type of music comes out if like Vernon and D8 come out.
06:18Yeah, it's really creative to see.
06:20And then talk to me about like when you look back at your history so far with the group.
06:24What's been like your favorite accomplishment or something you're really proud of?
06:27There are too many.
06:32Maybe getting the biggest award at MAMA.
06:34I was just going to say it's got to be MAMA, man.
06:37Yeah, that was very emotional for us because the first time we came out at MAMA, we were just like
06:42all the way at the back.
06:43We weren't that important.
06:44We weren't that relevant.
06:46But as time passed and like our fandom grew and like our music grew, we finally got that award.
06:52We achieved something that we've been wanting for so long.
06:55So maybe that time period.
06:57Yeah.
06:58I'm even thinking about our history now all of a sudden because I'm like, I remember being there.
07:02I was injured.
07:03And like watching you guys on stage, I could feel that emotion.
07:07Like you guys were crying and it was like such a big accomplishment for you guys.
07:11It was crazy.
07:12We weren't expecting it, honestly.
07:14Yeah.
07:14And then what do you feel like you've grown as a person or as even as a musician throughout the
07:19time you've been in Seventeen?
07:21I remember like when I first debuted, I got really scared like going on stage.
07:24And I was concerned of like what people might think of me, stuff like that.
07:29But right now, like after 10 years, I just want to show like more of myself.
07:37I don't think about like being scared of showing myself.
07:40I try to show more of myself, actually.
07:41I try not to hide myself.
07:43So I think I grew up as a person.
07:45And I even really like hearing you do Fortunate Change at the show the other night.
08:02Tell me about like what you want to give in the future as a solo guy or as you're working
08:07on music.
08:08What kind of genres and how do you want to experiment with that stuff?
08:12I'm producing music right now.
08:14I want to show like acoustic music because that's what I grew up on.
08:19And that's like how I got into music.
08:21So I want to show more of that side of myself to my fans.
08:25Something like indie too.
08:27Okay.
08:27Do you do a lot of songwriting?
08:30I just started, honestly.
08:32Never had time, but I'm trying to do more of that these days.
08:35Dude, I'm excited to see what you come up with.
08:37Who is like somebody that inspires you in that kind of world of like acoustic singer-songwriter kind of stuff?
08:43I really love John Mayer.
08:45Like ever since I was like a little kid.
08:48That's how I got into like wanting to learn guitar.
08:52So John Mayer maybe.
08:54Gabe Bondock.
08:55Is that a local artist?
08:56He was a YouTube artist when I was younger.
08:59He was like really big.
09:00So Gabe Bondock, AJ Raphael, similar category.
09:04And I really like Justin Bieber.
09:07Are you excited to see his like Coachella set?
09:09Bro, I'm so excited.
09:11Honestly, I can't wait.
09:12You guys would kill it at Coachella.
09:14Now that I'm thinking about it.
09:15I want to.
09:15I'm like, man, that would be crazy to see all of you guys out there in the desert.
09:19That was like one of my dreams to go perform at Coachella.
09:22So hopefully in the future.
09:23Yeah, we got to make it happen.
09:30Okay, so Joshua, now that all the food is here,
09:32Can you just explain to me a little bit of what's going on?
09:36Okay, so this is like the combination set that we got of the raw fish.
09:41The fish that was right there in front of us.
09:43And this is like fish stew.
09:45So usually when you eat this in Korea, it's paired with like fish stew.
09:49It's made with like fish bones.
09:51It's like broth that's made with like all the things that come from here.
09:54So cool.
09:55It's like spicy fish stew.
09:57This is the live octopus, which was hard for me.
10:01Like when I first came to Korea, but now I'm used to it.
10:03It's really, really good.
10:04Okay.
10:05And this is crab fried rice.
10:08Oh my God.
10:09So, okay.
10:09It's crazy to me because you're from LA.
10:11Yeah.
10:11But then you came to Korea, which I feel like it's just an interesting kind of like way.
10:15So how has it been for you to like acclimate to culture here?
10:18This was really hard for me at first.
10:19I was like, what is this?
10:20It's like, how are we going to eat this?
10:23But once you try it and like get used to it, it's really, really good.
10:27Okay.
10:27Well, I'm going to let you know I'm normally a little kid, man.
10:30And I don't like to try a lot of things, but I'm ready to jump into this.
10:33Okay.
10:34Let me do the sauce for you first.
10:36So this would be chili paste.
10:38It's like a little bit tangy.
10:41Soy sauce.
10:46And this is raw.
10:48Yeah, it's raw.
10:48This hasn't been cooked.
10:49It hasn't been cooked.
10:50And this, and the fish hasn't been cooked either, right?
10:52The fish hasn't been cooked.
10:53All right.
10:53We love it.
10:54The only thing that's cooked is this and this.
10:57Okay.
10:58Let's try it.
10:59So how I do it.
11:04I dip it in this like sesame oil with salt.
11:07Oh my God.
11:08I can't even.
11:10You know how to use a chopstick, Tetris.
11:12Yeah, let me get it.
11:14Okay.
11:15Oh, I like how you use the spoon here.
11:17That was okay.
11:18Okay.
11:18Oh, you dip it in the sauce first.
11:21You put it in the sauce first.
11:21Sauce first.
11:22Okay.
11:22Okay.
11:26Okay.
11:28And you just.
11:30Okay.
11:31You go first.
11:32Okay.
11:37It's really good.
12:01It's good.
12:02It's good.
12:02That is so good.
12:04Yeah, I want to talk to you about other stuff you've been working on too.
12:06I love that you were like interested in getting into acting.
12:09Mm.
12:09So I heard you've been in some acting classes as well.
12:11So how has that been?
12:12Mm.
12:13It's very new.
12:14But I'm learning new things.
12:15It's helping me express my emotions more.
12:18Because I feel like most of the time I might be a little bit closed off.
12:22So through the lessons, you know, it's helping me like bring out my emotions more.
12:28I'm having a lot of fun with it now.
12:30What's like an interesting like what exercises do you have to like do when you're like in
12:35acting classes and you're learning how to like channel your emotions?
12:38What I think of like, because I haven't done like a lot of acting classes, but it kind
12:42of feels like therapy.
12:44Oh, interesting.
12:45That makes sense actually.
12:45A little bit like therapy.
12:46Yeah.
12:47I talk a lot about myself with the teacher and then learn how to express my emotions through
12:53that.
12:54Oh, that makes sense though.
12:55What would be your like dream role or like something you want to do?
12:58Maybe something like Begin Again.
13:01Oh, nice.
13:02I wanted to do something like that too.
13:04Or I really love Modern Family.
13:08Such a classic.
13:09Yeah.
13:10So something like something to do with that.
13:12A little bit of comedy in there too.
13:14A lot of comedy too.
13:14Yeah.
13:15And then I like that we like walk past like Mark Ruffalo hangs out here.
13:19Yeah, that's crazy.
13:20So now I want to know like, who would you want to be in a movie with?
13:23That would be like, this is the Joshua film.
13:27Brad Pitt.
13:28I love Brad Pitt.
13:29Let's shoot.
13:29Hi Brad Pitt, Joshua.
13:31I mean, honestly.
13:32You can always dream.
13:33Yeah.
13:33I'm ready for this movie.
13:35Yeah.
13:35You know what I mean?
13:36You talk about, you can always dream dude.
13:37You're living the life.
13:38Like we were just talking about how we were at the Golden Globes.
13:41Right.
13:41That was crazy to see you there.
13:43So what was that experience like?
13:44Like being there by yourself and doing interviews and just being in that world of film.
13:50Man, I was so nervous because I'm used to like being surrounded by my members, but like going
13:56there by myself, I was really nervous, but there was a lot of good feedback from like my fans
14:01and you were there.
14:02So I was like a lot more comfortable doing like the interviews and it kind of blew up.
14:08But a lot of people were talking about that, like me going to the Globes.
14:12So I was really happy with like the feedback.
14:16Yeah.
14:17And I mean, what's also interesting to me is that like people were so excited that you got
14:21to meet the Heat It Rivalry voice.
14:23Yeah.
14:23How was that backstage?
14:25You getting to see Connor and all of that.
14:27It was crazy because I didn't know anything about Heat It Rivalry before, but my fans,
14:33like during like a fan call, my fan was like, you have to watch Heat It Rivalry.
14:37Do you know Heat It Rivalry?
14:39I was like, what's Heat It Rivalry?
14:41And then suddenly I'm at the Globes with like the stars from Heat It Rivalry.
14:46Yeah.
14:46It was really cool.
14:47Like meeting Hudson, he was like, oh, my fellow Korean.
14:52I didn't even think about that.
14:53Oh, my God.
14:54That's crazy.
14:55And I mean, you didn't just get to go to the Globes.
14:57You've been like everywhere.
14:58So talk to me about the Super Bowl, because that was also awesome.
15:00Like to just go to the Super Bowl, like what?
15:03That was crazy.
15:05Well, everyone like in the States grows up like watching football and like the Super Bowl
15:10is like the biggest event ever.
15:12So I've never imagined myself going there.
15:15But to see it like live at San Fran, it was crazy.
15:19I had so much fun.
15:21And the day before, I was at the Tom Brown show.
15:23So that was really cool, too.
15:25Just living the life that all of us dream of.
15:27Yeah.
15:27And I mean, what was like seeing Bad Bunny live?
15:30Oh, that was crazy.
15:32I loved his set.
15:34And I didn't know like they only have like 12 minutes to like build the whole set.
15:39You watched him like push it out on the field.
15:41Yeah.
15:41And like the bushes were walking.
15:43There were people like, it was crazy.
15:44I thought the bushes were going to dance, but it was because of the time limit.
15:48Yeah.
15:48They just have to get it out there and get it done.
15:50It's crazy.
15:51What's your life like when you're balancing like travel and work and like making that time
15:56for yourself to do personal things that you're excited to do?
15:58I don't know.
15:59Like these days, I'm kind of like a workaholic.
16:01So I like not being able to sleep.
16:05Really?
16:05Yeah, a little bit.
16:06You prefer it.
16:06Yeah, I prefer it like these days.
16:08I feel like a day is too short.
16:09Like 24 hours is too short for me these days.
16:12So what's a typical Joshua day like?
16:14A typical Joshua day?
16:15Um, I wake up in the morning.
16:19I take my Omega-3's vitamins.
16:23He's so healthy.
16:24If I have time to like work out, I try to work out in the morning or go to sauna.
16:31Yeah.
16:31All right, nice.
16:32And would you say you're early, you go to sleep early or you stay up late?
16:36I try to sleep early though.
16:38So I can wake up early.
16:39Because I like that balance.
16:42Because I heard that it's like really healthy to sleep early and wake up early.
16:46So I try to do that, yeah.
16:47And then I feel like being an idol also is something that you have a lot of spotlight on you
16:51all the time.
16:52So how is it that you handle like even social media?
16:54I think about something like going viral like you in the rain, right?
16:57But that's like something extremely positive.
16:58Everybody's talking about how great you look.
16:59But then I'm sure that's not always positive.
17:01So do you like avoid social media? How are you with that?
17:03I don't try to avoid social media.
17:05I try to avoid like anything negative.
17:08Because I like staying positive.
17:10So anything negative that pops up, I try to like ignore it.
17:13And just look at the positive stuff.
17:15Yeah.
17:16Nice. I love it, man.
17:17And then outside of this food, like what do you like to do in Korea?
17:20Like what are your activities?
17:21These days what I'm doing a lot is like producing music with like the producers that I'm close with.
17:26I like going on drives.
17:28I like going to the Han River to just like walk and like think about things.
17:32And it's like cherry blossom season, so.
17:34It's gorgeous out there.
17:36And then you're talking about those producers.
17:37I do want to talk to you a little bit more about the music.
17:39So how is the creative for you when you're working with a producer and you're saying I want to work
17:43with you?
17:43Like do you send them ideas first?
17:45Do they send you ideas?
17:46And how do you kind of do that collaboration?
17:47I think we go back and forth, but I try to find producers that match like my style of music.
17:53So I try to look for producers that produce music that I like personally, and then I might DM them
17:59or get closer to them like that.
18:02And then we produce and we get close and it goes back and forth like that.
18:06I love how natural it is for you guys to just like DM somebody and be like, hey, I want
18:09to work together.
18:10And it just like happens.
18:11It has to be like cool that you've worked so hard that you've gotten to the point where you can
18:14like reach out to people and be like, hey, let's do a track together.
18:17Yeah, it's really cool. And sometimes like if I upload like the Instagram photo, I might like input like music
18:25on it.
18:26And like the artist might comment on my photo and tell me like, thank you for using my music.
18:33And sometimes I tell them, yeah, I want to work with you.
18:36Yeah.
18:37That's so cool, man. And that's again, a positive way to use social media.
18:40Yeah, I love it, man. And then I got to talk to you about style.
18:43You are such a style king, man.
18:45Like every time you step out, I feel like the fit is always on point. So how important is fashion
18:50to you?
18:50Just like music. I feel like fashion is like another way to express yourself.
18:55So I try to put my personal touch to like everything I wear.
18:58Yeah.
18:59And is there any like dream brands and stuff you want to do?
19:02I like watches. So Jaeger would be like something really cool to work with, with that brand.
19:09For clothing, maybe Armani, Giorgio Armani, because I really like their shows.
19:16That'd be really cool.
19:17That's awesome. I know nothing about watches. Like what do you look for to watch? I don't even know how
19:21to shop.
19:21I like dress watches. So this watch I bought because like when I go to like an awards ceremony, I
19:30try to like wear this as much as possible because it goes with well with any suit.
19:34And this is a reverse though, so.
19:37Oh, wow. Yeah. That is really cool.
19:39Yeah. So you like subclassic. Yeah. It's something to be able to kind of like work with everything.
19:44Oh, dope, dope. I mean, also, of course, you just toured. How is traveling for you? Like what's your favorite
19:49places to go? Like what?
19:52Recently, I went to Hong Kong for our concert. The venue was really nice. The hotels were nice. It's like
19:58really fun to shop. So maybe Hong Kong.
20:01No, I mean, I went for the first time not too long ago and I was like so shocked by
20:05like, there's skyscrapers, there's ocean, there's mountains.
20:08Yes. It's like so much all at once. It makes a really cool place. You said like going shopping. Is
20:13that something that's like easy for you to do when you go out?
20:15Because I've asked a lot of people about shopping out here and everybody's like, I go online. And I'm like,
20:20wait, so is that something you prefer to do is go shopping in person actually?
20:24I love shopping in person. Yes. Come on, man.
20:27I don't like shopping online that much. Because I have to be able to wear it before I buy it.
20:31You know what I mean? Because I don't know how the fit's going to look on me like online.
20:34See, that's how you care. And I feel like the way you care about your fashion is probably the same
20:38way you're approaching your new music.
20:40True. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I see you, bro. I see you, bro. Well, I'm so excited to
20:45see what you come up with, man. I know your fans are going to be looking forward to it.
20:47Oh, I'm scared, but I'm hopeful. I guess I hope I'll see you out there and let's enjoy this video.
20:55Okay?
20:55Sure.
