00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today there had been major progress in ASEAN's latest discussions on Myanmar,
00:07with member states now showing greater willingness to engage the country more effectively.
00:14Anwar said ASEAN leaders are now seriously considering an aggressive engagement with Myanmar while maintaining the bloc's five-point consensus.
00:22He said the shift marked a significant change from previous discussions where there had been little commitment among ASEAN leaders
00:30to move the process forward.
00:33Anwar added that ASEAN foreign ministers will begin discussions within weeks on new engagement mechanisms with Myanmar,
00:40which could include visits by regional ministers and leaders to strengthen dialogue channels.
00:45At the same time, he stressed that this was not a final resolution and that efforts to resolve the Myanmar
00:52crisis would take time.
00:54Myanmar has remained one of ASEAN's most difficult challenges since the military coup in 2021,
01:00with the bloc struggling to enforce the five-point consensus agreed upon with the Junta.
