00:01Now, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coalfield has become the first in the West Midlands to use a
00:07new capsule endoscopy system called Genius. Patients swallow a small capsule containing
00:12a camera and light which takes thousands of pictures as it moves through the small bowel.
00:16The technology is designed to help clinicians identify conditions including inflammatory bowel
00:22disease and causes of iron deficiency anemia. Instead of a bulky belt and bag, patients wear a
00:30discreet adhesive patch on the abdomen. Staff say it should be more comfortable and allow people to
00:36continue with normal activities. Patient feedback will help decide any wider local rollouts across
00:42endoscopy services.
