00:00I
00:31And welcome again to the big match.
00:32And three more games for you today, each of them filled with plenty of incident.
00:37For our main match, we go to Stamford Bridge for the London Derby game between Chelsea and Spurs.
00:42Nice put.
00:44Hausman's gone on.
00:45And Hausman with a chance.
00:47Oh, and he's missed it.
00:49What a miss.
00:50Also, Nottingham Forest against Leeds.
00:52Jones on the jump.
00:54And number 11 is Eddie Gray.
00:57And the goal has not been allowed.
00:59And Luton against Portsmouth.
01:02Travellecock turns.
01:03And reads leg.
01:04Here's Jennings.
01:06And there were five goals in that Luton game.
01:08A studio guest today, David Webb of Chelsea.
01:11Welcome to him.
01:11But now let's get on with the action down at Stamford Bridge yesterday between two Jekyll and Hyde sides.
01:16Chelsea, who after a dismal start to the season, now going superbly.
01:20Spurs unbeaten at home, but so far no wins away.
01:23And first of all, it's the Chelsea side.
01:25And with injuries to Boyle and Baldwin, it means a further chance for Paddy Mulligan at number two and Steve
01:30Kemba at eight.
01:32That leaves us with the Spurs side.
01:34And a close-up look at their line-up shows that full-back Cyril Knowles has recovered from an ankle
01:39injury received against Arsenal.
01:40So they are unchanged.
01:42Two great sides, then, who can cancel each other out in so many respects.
01:47Because when it comes to goal scorers, Chelsea, first of all, can point to their own Peter Osgood with 19.
01:53Spurs, meanwhile, can say, what about Martin Chivers with 24?
01:57Then, when it comes to big buys, Chelsea have £170,000 worth of Steve Kemba.
02:02And Spurs have Ralph Coates, who cost them £190,000.
02:06So as the two skippers, Martin Peters of Spurs and Ron Harris, meet, the referee is Brian Daniels of Raynham
02:12in Essex.
02:13The £52,000 crowd, the Chelsea section having plenty to say at that end.
02:17Counted at the other end by the Spurs supporters.
02:20And there's even one of those marvellous RAF police dogs as a part of the show.
02:24So Spurs, then, who've yet to win away from home this season.
02:29Kick-off, defending the goal to our left.
02:31White shirts and shorts, yellow stockings,
02:33against a Chelsea side who've won their last five games
02:36and have been unbeaten in their last ten.
02:40But in derby games, past records don't really count for too much,
02:43with so much pride at stake,
02:45with two such classy sides here.
02:47Here's Kemba.
02:50Challenged by Philip Beal.
02:52And then presented with the ball by Alan Gilsey.
02:55Hudson.
02:57Mulligan.
02:58Who is in for the injured John Boyle.
03:01Hook.
03:02Back to Hollins.
03:08Searching ball into that Spurs penalty area.
03:10And it's Pat Jennings.
03:15Chivers going fast for that one.
03:17And what a beautiful little lay-off for Neymar.
03:20Dempsey coming across.
03:21He's lost to Chivers for the moment.
03:24But we're picking up Coates and turning the ball into touch for Tottenham's throw.
03:29Chivers already going across to take it.
03:32And that means one of those effortless long throws of his into that Chelsea goal mouth.
03:38Ray Evans.
03:41And Beal.
03:43Peters getting ahead to it.
03:45Dempsey also.
03:47And now Kemba.
03:49Kemba and Coates there.
03:51Hollins.
03:54Two sides who are soon to meet in the semi-finals of the Football League Cup.
04:01First leg of which is here just before Christmas.
04:04And the second one at Tottenham early in the new year.
04:09Hudson with the throw for Chelsea.
04:15Hudson.
04:16Hudson.
04:18Perryman there scuffling in.
04:20Hudson finding Hollins who was on another good run.
04:23And that should be a corner to Chelsea.
04:25The ball going off Martin Peters.
04:28So Pat Jennings.
04:30Who will be put under pressure.
04:31Knowles at the far post.
04:33Evans at the near post.
04:36Mike England right in there too.
04:38Hudson with the corner.
04:39And that wasn't far away.
04:41But the touch came off the Chelsea player.
04:44Either Osgood or Dempsey who was right up.
04:50Knowles who was having a fine season for Tottenham.
04:52But he was doubtful yesterday with an ankle injury received in the Arsenal match.
04:56But now Cook.
04:57And Osgood in a lot of space on the right for him.
05:00Hudson going hard into the middle.
05:01And Hausman too.
05:03Still Osgood.
05:06And now Cook.
05:07And he turned it in.
05:09No he can't.
05:10And Peters right back there.
05:12Taking a push from his own goalkeeper.
05:14But Spurs for a second or two.
05:16Were in tremendous trouble.
05:19And Chelsea at the moment in these opening five minutes.
05:23Are making the running.
05:25Hudson.
05:28Oh between the legs of Gilsane to Hollins.
05:31A little dink again.
05:32And Osgood hoping to get on the end of it.
05:34And Tottenham's goal kick.
05:39Oh Peter Osgood already showing a bit of appetite for this match.
05:42Perhaps needing a big occasion to pull out the best of him.
05:50Noes.
05:52And Perryman.
05:55Coates.
05:59Noes.
06:03Coates once more.
06:05Perriman, good tackle there by Perriman
06:07never shoots a tackle
06:10first time in there by Peters
06:12but now it's Cook again for Chelsea
06:14Mulligan
06:21and the feet were high on Marnin Peters
06:23and so it's a free kick for Spurs
06:31Coates going towards that Chelsea penalty area
06:33knows to take the free kick
06:37Chivers in fact getting ahead to that one
06:39and Chelsea holding off a moment
06:42and now Kemper to bring it away for them
06:46Mulligan
06:48and Hudson
06:52good jump there by Hausman
06:55now it's Cook
06:57Hausman's gone on
06:58and Hausman with a chance
07:00oh and he's missed it
07:01what a miss
07:05again that's Spurs defence
07:08left wanting
07:09and it was Ray Evans who was in the middle of it
07:12and Hausman who surely should have put Chelsea ahead
07:16well he'll be furious with himself for that
07:20chances in the first division don't come easier than that
07:29Neva
07:32comprehensively beaten though by Paddy Mulligan
07:36Hudson
07:41to Holland
07:45oh osgood there left dangerously loose by that spurs defense and taken with a late tackle by
07:50england cook with the shot but it's over and osgood is down and it really was a bad tackle
07:56by mike england and the referee coming across towards that situation but away from england
08:02mike england probably a little conscious that he was
08:04leaving osgood a yard or two free when that situation developed
08:11well osgood all right again some strapping around his right foot as you can see
08:19and pat jennings to take the goal kick
08:28dempsey
08:31aspen leaning on evans and in fact evans penalized
08:34and i wouldn't have thought there was too much he could have done about that
08:38he kept his eye on the ball and he had houseman pushing into him
08:42and a chance for hollins to blast another of those famous free kicks of his
08:47no it's hudson instead to chip it over
08:49osgood right in there just passed
08:58brilliantly conceived free kick there by chelsea
09:01spurs stealing themselves for the drive from hollins
09:06now neighbor invitingly in space hudson pursuing him
09:13perryman
09:17neighbor evans making the overlap for him that's the ball for ray evans
09:21good cross by evans and a corner to tottenham
09:29well i would think that'll make evans feel a little happier and certainly some of his form
09:32against arsenal was good burnetti doing his share of shouting
09:35good break by ray evans
09:40neighbor with the kick
09:42mulligan waiting for it
09:45neighbor turning it back first time there
09:47and now peters
09:48oh and a fine save
09:49and it's not away yet
09:52hudson
09:52and it's still not away
09:54but a fine save there
09:56reflex save by burnetti
09:58from martin peters
09:59chelsea now
10:00with hook
10:08and down goes jennings
10:10that ball skidding across that patch of mud in that goal mouth
10:13not making it easy for him
10:15chelsea manager dave sexton has deserted his crow's nest on the top of the stand
10:20obviously wants a little change of tactics somewhere
10:22having a work with chris garland on the left the chelsea substitute
10:27now kemba
10:30that's it
10:30and oscar trying to get in with the head
10:32and it fell just behind cook
10:34and kemba
10:35and to safety for tottenham
10:49dempsey
10:53a little moment ago
10:54it looked as though martin peters was the player who was more seriously hurt
10:57to ron harris who's just played that one forward
10:59seems to be struggling a good deal more than peters at the moment
11:02but osgood turning that ball in nicely
11:04for kemba
11:05but herriman doing tremendous covering again for tottenham
11:11nose
11:16gilzeen
11:17and nose to chivers
11:18desperately trying to get away from that chelsea defense
11:20and succeeding in finding gilzeen
11:22but that's harris
11:25and now dempsey
11:33hudson to harris
11:37ron harris still obviously not feeling himself
11:43hollins
11:45a lot of space there for him and a long range shot but
11:49wide enough
11:53hollins who really has had a good scoring record this season with 11 goals, four of them from penalties
12:04to get his head to it and being penalised for it tottenham's free kick
12:08on chippets
12:14harris who really does seem to be feeling the effects of the knock he had moments ago
12:28webb
12:29letting cook go ahead with it
12:30probably one of the most encouraging sights of all in any afternoon for chelsea is
12:34when charlie cook badly wants to get a touch of the ball all the time
12:38good play there by hollins but peters to cut it out
12:41now to coax
12:44neva
12:52of harris
12:54for kepler
12:57osgood
12:57followed by england although it's deep into that chelsea half
13:00hudson
13:01mulligan
13:14hudson taking this one
13:18to cook
13:21beale watching him
13:23and knowles
13:26and he still gets away with it
13:27beautiful play there by cook in such a confined space
13:30mulligan
13:31to turn it in once more
13:32osgood
13:33on his body
13:34beautiful skills by osgood
13:36but not quite the shot at the end to magic
13:40and a lovely piece of artistic play by peter osgood
13:45in a game that so far in the first half hour
13:48has certainly had no shortage of really talented football
13:53and in that respect charlie cook has played his part too
13:57hudson
14:03and evans
14:04and another throw to chelsea
14:06and certainly after their patchy form in the opening part of the season
14:09it's quite easy to see why chelsea have had this good recent run
14:12as beale gets in that time
14:14and concedes the corner
14:15and we're now well into injury time at the end of the first half
14:20beale and perriman who've done a wonderful job for spurs
14:24and really done so much to keep them afloat
14:27on level terms at nil-nil
14:30perhaps now facing the last crisis of the first half as hudson takes the corner for chelsea
14:36webb going in
14:38and hudson again
14:42good piece of play there by evans coming out so quickly to make it difficult for hudson
14:48hudson with room to cross it once more
14:50and a header there
14:51and a good save by jennings from charlie cook
15:03and really it would have been no injustice on the run of the play of the first half if chelsea
15:06had gone in with that one goal lead
15:11where the spurs are conscious of their poor away record they look a very withdrawn side so far this afternoon
15:16and really have had just this one shot
15:21saved by peter bonetti from martin peters
15:25certainly had this hard game against arsenal on wednesday night
15:28but chelsea had this testimonial match on tuesday against rangers
15:33now a neighbor
15:38the twinkling skills but the ball into touch again for chelsea's throw
15:43but a highly skillful first half and a very entertaining one as well
15:47just that one commodity goals missing at the moment
15:54so there's the half-time whistle with two sides who really looked up to their entertainment value certainly in the
16:00first half and particularly chelsea
16:04with peter houseman who had a brilliant smell but certainly missed an open goal that would have put them ahead
16:08still to come for you to enjoy on the big match this afternoon
16:11highlights from nottingham forest against leeds united and luton town against portsmouth
16:16but the half-time score here at a packed stamford bridge
16:19is chelsea nil spurs nil
16:22and we'll be back with you in a couple of minutes
16:37so chelsea then who had so much of the first half
16:39get us away now at the start of the second
16:42hollins
16:45the line's been flagging for a push presumably by ray evans on peter houseman
16:50no he's given it the other way the referee in fact
16:54seem to think it was that way as well but the line's been indicating that it was probably an offside
16:58decision
16:58for it
17:13yeah
17:14okay
17:14yeah
17:15here
17:15well again
17:16Mio once more than this was
17:29and now it's Gilzee
17:35Chivers fighting for the ball there
17:38which is something he wasn't doing
17:39to very good effect in the first half
17:42and I'm sure one of the Chelsea substitutes
17:44dying to get on Chris Garland
17:47their £100,000 man from Bristol City
17:54Gilzee
17:55nice ball there for Perryman
17:57and now for Evans
18:01Labour
18:02beaten by Harris
18:03Evans versus Harris
18:05and Evans is down holding his leg
18:09Osgood
18:12and now it's Coates
18:15turned nicely there for Gilzee
18:18and Martin Peters having a word with the referee
18:20I think he fears that Ray Evans might be
18:22badly hurt
18:26now it's Coates
18:28now Beal
18:31and Beal putting it in a touch
18:33so that the trainer can come on
18:34to have a look at Ray Evans
18:40Spurs give her Alan Mullery
18:41who's having
18:43this stomach
18:44trouble
18:45an injury there
18:46that is taking a bit of time to heal
18:48and looking anxiously there towards
18:49Ray Evans
18:53and young John Pratt
18:54who filled the number four shirt of Alan Mullery
18:57for a few weeks
18:57and did it to a very good effect too
18:59well Evans
19:00not too badly the worst for wear
19:09Cook
19:16back to Mulligan
19:18long driving ball there towards Haasman
19:20Osgood right in there too
19:24the linesman is flagging
19:25but is he going to give it inside
19:27Jimmy Neighbours hand
19:28it was
19:29that the ball touched
19:31Osgood smiling away
19:33I think he half suspected
19:35that was a penalty
19:35and it would be very interesting
19:36to look back
19:37and see whether
19:38in fact
19:39that ball was just inside the area
19:40or just outside it
19:43the referee is saying
19:44it was a good two yards outside
19:45Jimmy Neighbours
19:46I would think vastly relieved
19:47the free kick then to Chelsea
19:49between Hollins
19:51and Hudson
19:56and just passed
19:58from Hollins
20:03I think even Pat Jennings
20:04for all his
20:05a flying dive
20:06could have got to that one
20:11Skipper getting some advice
20:12from the touchline
20:14or a push there by Webb
20:16on Peters
20:17unmistakable
20:19whatever David Webb may say
20:20that must have been a push
20:21on Martin Peters
20:27and he gives Spurs
20:28the free kick
20:31and he gives Spurs
20:33the free kick
20:34and one of which
20:36to get another of those
20:37Martin Peters
20:38flicks
20:38over the wall
20:39he's put it for Chivers
20:40to hit it first time
20:48must be a long time
20:49since Martin Chivers
20:50has had so quiet a game
20:51as this
20:51by firing away
20:53Tottenham's top scorer
20:54last season
20:55and 24
20:55already to his credit
20:57this season
20:57and really without a shot
20:59so far
21:00Chelsea trainer
21:01Harry Medhurst
21:02their former goalkeeper
21:02and West Ham too
21:03of course
21:07changed his mind
21:08about playing it
21:08for Chivers
21:09but now Chivers
21:09might get another chance
21:10no Webb
21:11in the touch again
21:12but Spurs long throw
21:14with Martin Chivers
21:18again no effort
21:19but all the distance
21:20you would want
21:21and Gilzeen
21:22turning it back
21:23Coates now
21:24and down goes Bonetti
21:25from Ralph Coates
21:32again the long throw
21:33that causes
21:34a certain amount
21:34of trouble
21:55Cyril Knowles
22:01great challenge
22:02there by Chivers
22:03on Mulligan
22:03Gilzeen
22:04to lay that off
22:05nicely for Coates
22:06Evans has gone
22:07streaking down the right
22:08for Tottenham
22:09and that's beautifully
22:10weighted by Coates
22:10for Evans
22:12and a corner
22:13to Spurs
22:18that was much more
22:19like Ralph Coates
22:20as well
22:20a beautifully weighted
22:21ball there for Evans
22:22down the right
22:23Neighbours going across
22:24to take the corner
22:25and England has come
22:27right up for it
22:29Osgood back with him
22:35they thought about
22:36a short one
22:37for a moment
22:37now Neighbours
22:38the long one
22:40Peters there
22:40with his head
22:42Mulligan now
22:43for Chelsea
22:50Beal versus Cook
22:53and Beal a long way
22:54back to Pat Jennings
23:03Chivers again beaten
23:04in the air
23:04that time by David Webb
23:05and now it's with Hudson
23:08John Hollands
23:30good play by Chelsea
23:32Dempsey to Osgood
23:35falling for Hudson
23:38swept nicely there
23:39for Kemba
23:40a little fortunately
23:41hit him on the back
23:45aimed again
23:46there a chance for Cook
23:47and a goal
23:48for Chelsea
23:50by Charlie Cook
23:56beautiful ball though
23:57in the first place
23:58that set it up
24:01for Kemba
24:02on the right
24:02and Cook
24:04taking his cross
24:05superbly
24:05to give Jennings
24:07no chance
24:10so Chelsea then
24:12leading by a goal
24:13to nil
24:13with 16 minutes
24:14of the second half
24:15gone
24:17and that was only
24:18Charlie Cook's
24:19third goal
24:19of the season
24:26and now Spurs
24:27with this bad
24:28away record
24:29remember they
24:30haven't won away
24:30from home this season
24:33face a Chelsea
24:34that are a goal up
24:34and a Chelsea side
24:36that have conceded
24:37only five goals
24:38in their last
24:39ten games
24:42so a wonderful
24:43defensive record
24:44that Spurs
24:44have got to break
24:45now
24:45Webb
24:45to take the free
24:46kick for Chelsea
24:54Osgood winning
24:54it in the air
24:55Cook
24:55the first timer
24:56but Jennings
24:57behind it
25:02Knowles
25:08Webb
25:09to head it away
25:10but that's
25:10Perryman
25:11now Coates
25:12Naver on the right
25:15but well taken out
25:16by Harris
25:16Naver if anything
25:17looked just a little
25:18lightweight this
25:19afternoon
25:20and the Chelsea
25:21supporters
25:23scarves a lot
25:24delighted with
25:25that one goalie
25:29Perryman to Peters
25:32good shot there
25:33by Peters
25:33and he called
25:34for a good save
25:35too from Bonetti
25:37took that short
25:38pass from Perryman
25:38well and with men
25:39closing in on him
25:40still got it in
25:45Chivas first to react
25:47to that ball
25:48that was allowed to
25:49go a surprisingly
25:49long way
25:51but now Harris
25:56Cook
25:59and Chelsea's throw
26:07good piece of play by
26:09Hausman
26:09Cook
26:11and now
26:12Hollands
26:12with a chance
26:13to hit one
26:14just past that
26:16Spurs post again
26:24now Nose
26:33now Nose
26:34that's a little one-two
26:35there with John Pratt
26:36the substitute on
26:36for Gilzeen
26:38Naver
26:40Pratt
26:44across there for
26:45Peters to go
26:45storming in on it
26:49Hudson
26:50Mulligan
26:51a long way clear
26:52Mulligan really
26:52has had a good game
26:55Evans to Coates
26:59Evans again
26:59a chance to cross
27:00this one
27:01so much room
27:02for him to do it
27:03and Chivas
27:04and he quite
27:05couldn't force it
27:06home
27:07very nearly
27:08got in there
27:08to force it
27:09home
27:13but very good
27:14brave goalkeeping
27:15by Peter Bonetti
27:17and Chelsea
27:18winning the free kick
27:25good cross
27:26by Evans too
27:31Peters forward again
27:33but Webb
27:33as safe as he has been
27:35the whole afternoon
27:35Mulligan
27:39and now
27:40Hollings
27:44and now goes
27:45Houseman
27:45he's alright
27:46he's onside
27:46but Jennings
27:48is there before it
27:57England
28:01to Evans
28:02to Evans
28:06Nulls
28:07just a shade
28:08over two minutes
28:09left now
28:09Peters
28:11they've really
28:11got to
28:12manufacture something
28:13out of nothing
28:14now Spurs
28:14and here's Ray
28:15Evans
28:15surging forward
28:16for him again
28:18Coates
28:21fair look
28:22across there
28:22Peters going in
28:23and just over
28:24from Martin
28:25Chivers
28:27and that's it
28:29Chelsea take their
28:30run of wins
28:31to six
28:32and Spurs
28:33have still the win
28:34away from home
28:35Charlie Cook
28:36the man who scored
28:37the only goal
28:38of a high class game
28:40full of the right
28:41sort of talents
28:41here at Stamford Bridge
28:43this afternoon
28:46Chelsea now take it
28:47to 11
28:47without a win
28:48without defeat
28:53Steve Kemba
28:54coming off
28:55and Charlie Cook
28:56so much invention
28:57in this
28:58Chelsea attack
29:00so the final score
29:01here at Stamford Bridge
29:02this afternoon
29:03Chelsea 1
29:05Spurs 0
29:07and the Chelsea
29:08manager Dave Sexton
29:09and chairman
29:09Brian Mears
29:10both confirmed
29:11afterwards
29:11that that was
29:11probably Chelsea's
29:12best home performance
29:13of the season
29:13Spurs manager
29:14Bill Nicholson
29:14would simply say
29:15we were very
29:16disappointing
29:26still to come
29:27for you today
29:27to enjoy
29:28your highlights
29:28of Nottingham Forest
29:29against Leeds
29:30and Luton
29:30against Portsmouth
29:31but now let's meet
29:32a man who had
29:32a couple of stitches
29:33in a head wound
29:34after that game
29:34at Chelsea yesterday
29:35Chelsea defender
29:36David Webb
29:37with him
29:37Jimmy Hill
29:38last time you were
29:39on David
29:39we could see the
29:40stitches
29:40this time they're
29:41hidden under
29:41that beautiful hair
29:42but Chelsea's
29:43great improvement
29:43yesterday
29:44everybody enjoyed
29:45that game
29:45coming
29:46at the end
29:47of a long run
29:48of better performances
29:49when you were
29:49knocked out of Europe
29:50what's brought
29:51the difference
29:52I think it's
29:53an all-round belief
29:54in each other
29:55I think that's
29:56particularly what's
29:58instigated a change
29:59in the mood
30:01and everything
30:01we've got players
30:02all wanting to play
30:03for each other
30:03helping each other
30:05working for each other
30:06and I think it showed up
30:07yesterday against Tottenham
30:08were you a bit
30:08complacent at the start
30:09of the season
30:10I think complacency
30:12starts from
30:13a feeling of
30:14overconfidence
30:15which possibly we had
30:16last year when we
30:17played Real Madrid
30:18we came back
30:19we had a very short
30:20summer
30:21and we came back
30:23and probably we had
30:25a little bit of a
30:25hangover from the
30:26Real Madrid game
30:27a hangover
30:28I mean a hangover
30:29you're not
30:29I mean a hangover
30:31what about individual
30:32performances of players
30:33during that time
30:34who've suddenly improved
30:35well I don't think
30:37anyone can outshine
30:39Alan Hudson for his
30:39improvement
30:40and Peter Bonetti
30:42at the back
30:43you know
30:44Alan Hudson
30:45played a big part
30:46in that goal yesterday
30:47and I think that's
30:48probably his finest
30:49game of the season
30:50I was a bit
30:50disappointed in the way
30:51from a very promising
30:52start he'd slip back
30:53but he seems to have
30:54recaptured all of his
30:55old form
30:55is a tremendous
30:57start to this goal
30:58well he's absolutely
30:59you know he's got
31:00his old feeling
31:01back again
31:02you know he plays
31:03this one two
31:03with John Dempsey
31:04back again
31:05John does a terrific
31:06ball up here
31:07to Peter Osgood
31:09and this type of
31:10move
31:11Ozzy's showing
31:12no mean skill there
31:13to get away
31:15from Mike England's
31:15sliding tackle
31:16but it's this ball
31:17that spreads out
31:18the play
31:18that really opens
31:19up the defence
31:20there are four Spurs
31:21players there
31:21beaten
31:21as it's aimed
31:22away for them
31:23and a little behind
31:24trap there
31:24by Steve Kember
31:26but it's
31:27as the cost
31:27comes over
31:28I think Cyril
31:28Knowles won't
31:29want to see this
31:30very much
31:30because he ducks
31:31his head
31:31and takes his
31:32eye off the ball
31:32there
31:32leaving Charlie
31:34Cook not much
31:34time
31:35but he didn't
31:36need very much
31:37time and he
31:37flashed it straight
31:38in the net
31:40what's brought
31:41about this with
31:42Alan Hudson
31:42I'm very interested
31:43in this young lad
31:44because the first
31:45time I saw him
31:45I thought
31:46what a tremendous
31:47talent he had
31:48and then suddenly
31:49it all appeared
31:50to just fritter away
31:52well I think
31:53he had a very
31:54big disappointment
31:55the other year
31:56when we was in
31:57the cup final
31:59and he's taken
32:00him a year or so
32:00to get over it
32:01I mean he's still
32:01a very young fella
32:03and he's just
32:04got married
32:04and he's got a
32:05stability now
32:05that possibly
32:06he may not have
32:06had I don't know
32:07but what he's done
32:08now he's brought
32:09himself back
32:09into line
32:10and he's a much
32:11more mature player
32:12than I've ever seen
32:12tremendous performance
32:13yesterday
32:14but extraordinarily
32:14enough
32:15although people
32:15might have said
32:16you should have
32:16won by three or four
32:17goals
32:17in the end of course
32:18you could have
32:19you almost
32:19let a draw
32:20get into the
32:21score sheets
32:22yeah well I think
32:23that was particularly
32:24my fault
32:24you know
32:25there was a time
32:26there I let
32:26Martin Chivers
32:27get behind me
32:28and he had a
32:29blinding header
32:30what about in the
32:31first half though
32:32there was this
32:33point blank save
32:34there from
32:35before we look at
32:36that one
32:36from Martin Peters
32:38those reactions
32:39of Peter Bonetti
32:41quite fantastic
32:42now let's look at
32:43that second half
32:44one where you've
32:44already taken the
32:45blame
32:45but we can see
32:47really who it was
32:48who pulled you
32:49out of trouble
32:51there's the cross
32:54you've got caught
32:54with Chivers
32:55but Peter Bonetti
32:56the cat
32:58on the floor
32:58he's had a spell
33:00people still talk
33:01about his World Cup
33:02performance
33:02very unfairly in a way
33:04you know
33:04it's one of those
33:04things that's always
33:05dragged up
33:06but over the past
33:07few weeks
33:07you've hardly let
33:08in any goals at all
33:09his form has been
33:10remarkable
33:11very remarkable
33:11I think what Peter
33:13is so good at
33:13is that when he's
33:14not in the game
33:15he's actually in it
33:16because the ball
33:17will come up
33:18at the end of the
33:18field and all of a
33:20sudden he'll have
33:20to be in the game
33:21and a lot of
33:22goalkeepers can't
33:22respond so quickly
33:23but Peter responds
33:24very quickly
33:25and you always find
33:26a ball that's
33:26flashing past you
33:27you think
33:27oh he's
33:28you know that's in
33:29and he's always
33:30leaping across his
33:31goal and pulling
33:31them down
33:32marvellous
33:32well it was a very
33:33good all-round
33:34performance yesterday
33:35how do you see
33:35the rest of the
33:36season going for
33:36Chelsea
33:37you're in the
33:37semi-final of the
33:38league cup
33:38you're still in the
33:39FA cup
33:40I mean not had a
33:40chance to be knocked
33:41out
33:41the league you're
33:42beginning to creep
33:43up on all the
33:44other London clubs
33:46well if I was to be
33:47a gambling man
33:48it's just the way I'd
33:48like to see my horse
33:49win a race
33:51for the league
33:52for anything
33:53because I think
33:53you know it's just
33:54the right time of the
33:55season to start
33:55going
33:56it's just like I'd
33:57like to see my horse
33:57start to come to
33:58win a race
33:59in a mile race
34:01or something
34:02well all the
34:03Chelsea Stallions
34:04there at
34:04Stamford Bridge
34:05they certainly
34:05showed class
34:06form yesterday
34:07and let's hope
34:08David that they
34:09continue to do that
34:10for the rest of the
34:10season
34:10I hope you might
34:11Jim
34:12it's worth
34:12watching
34:14well in fact it
34:15was worth watching
34:16yesterday and I
34:16thoroughly enjoyed it
34:17but there were just a
34:17couple of tackles
34:18which I want to draw
34:19your attention to
34:20the first one by
34:21Mike England on
34:22Peter Osgood
34:23and what you have to
34:24decide here as
34:25Hollies plays the
34:26ball over is
34:27whether in fact Mike
34:28England was going
34:29for the ball or
34:30whether he was
34:30going for the man
34:31he lunges his foot
34:33through it's a
34:33typical England
34:34tackle but I think
34:35one could say there
34:36although Osgood
34:36fell very heavily
34:37that there was some
34:39justification in
34:40arguing that England
34:41went for the ball
34:42there as hard as he
34:43in fact did go for
34:44it but the second
34:45tackle which Ron
34:46Harris makes on
34:46Ray Evans I see no
34:48justification in
34:49claiming anything else
34:50but it's the kind of
34:51tackle that we can do
34:52without on football
34:53fields just look now
34:55you'll see Harris in
34:56the dark shirt there
34:57win the ball and
34:58then chase in
34:59after it this is in
35:00slow motion and it's
35:01the tackle in its
35:02entirety now we'll
35:04look again and stop
35:05the action just at
35:07the point where
35:08Harris goes in for
35:09that ball Evans has
35:10gone for the ball
35:11Harris's foot is
35:12clearly over the top
35:13of the ball and I
35:15sat very close to
35:16that incident yesterday
35:17and from my seat I
35:18would have certainly
35:19taken Harris's name
35:20for that one tackle
35:21and most probably
35:22would have sent him
35:22off because that is
35:23a kind of dangerous
35:24tackle in football
35:25that I certainly for
35:26one don't want to
35:27see so much for
35:28those two incidents
35:28what about Spurs
35:29well for me it
35:30cleared up the
35:31mystery of Spurs
35:32yesterday because
35:32they played so well
35:33when we've gone to
35:34White Hart Lane I
35:35wondered why they
35:36couldn't win matches
35:36away the answer is
35:38very simple their
35:39players don't fight and
35:40tackle hard enough to
35:41gather points
35:42consistently away from
35:43their home ground I
35:44think it was
35:44typified most with an
35:46old player and a
35:46young player Alan
35:47Gilzean didn't seem to
35:48relish the game at all
35:50yesterday and in the end
35:50was pulled off and
35:52young Jimmy
35:52neighbor there who is
35:54obviously still learning
35:55the game and plays so
35:56well in front of his
35:57own crowd showed that
35:58there's a lot more to
35:59learn about football for
36:00him yet before he can
36:01give a contribution both
36:02home and away so the
36:04Spurs mystery cleared up
36:05a wonderful afternoon's
36:06entertainment for all of
36:07us and a question mark
36:09over the future of both
36:10London clubs I suppose
36:12the real questions being
36:13are Chelsea coming up on
36:14the reels as David Webb
36:15suggests and what are
36:16Spurs going to do about
36:17that away form maybe those
36:18questions could be answered
36:19in those tremendous league
36:20cup semi-finals that are
36:21coming up but now it's
36:23time for some more action
36:23and for that we go to
36:24Luton where it hasn't
36:25really been a very happy
36:26season for them I
36:27noticed that yesterday
36:28the Luton supporters
36:28club were handing out
36:29leaflets saying please
36:30support our team a little
36:32more well let's see how
36:33that worked out as we
36:34pick up Luton against
36:35Portsmouth commentator
36:36Jerry Harrison and
36:37Luton are in white
36:40there's Chris Nicholl
36:43conceding the first
36:44corner of the game in the
36:46second minute
36:48Owen Hand is at the back
36:50of the penalty area so is
36:52Jenkins Reynolds going
36:53to the near post the
36:54short one right across the
36:56face of the area Keane
36:58there to get it away and
36:59there it is from Reynolds
37:03and what an abject piece of
37:06luck for Luton Mike Keane's
37:08header hitting Reynolds here
37:12and leaving Tony Reid the
37:14goalkeeper absolutely helpless
37:21Buzby a flick on straight to
37:22Yulden though to hand McCann
37:28Portsmouth seem to have just
37:29that little bit more time and
37:30just that little bit more
37:31accuracy and here's Lay going
37:32for a good ball from McCann
37:33over the far side now for
37:35Portsmouth players if he can get
37:36the crossing to Billcox the far man
37:38but he's got to get past
37:40Givens first and Givens gives it
37:42back to McCann anyhow
37:44good play by McCann can he try one
37:47Reynolds gonna shoot
37:50and so easy from that distance
37:53but made by McCann an error in the
37:58first place by Givens and half the
38:01Luton town defense standing still
38:03and Portsmouth go two up
38:10oh and Yulden flicking it past
38:12almost cause more trouble with it
38:14and now at last the roar of
38:16support from this Luton crowd
38:22another one number seven
38:25six minutes into the second half
38:26Gordon Heinsohn Keane coming to the
38:29near post out comes standing
38:30changes his mind
38:32Keane
38:37well that is the breakthrough and
38:40the man who thoroughly deserves it
38:46ten men
38:49now it's 2-1
38:51and Mike Keane with his second goal
38:54of the season
38:56puts Luton in with some sort of a
38:58chance
39:06well out by nickel under terrific
39:08pressure Keane thumbing it away
39:13very little width in the
39:16Luton attack of course they can't
39:18afford it really with only playing
39:20with only ten men but it means the
39:22flanks are quite useless very often
39:29quickly in there by nickel and now it's
39:31Luton breaking again
39:32here's Heinsohn can he turn one up and
39:34try one
39:35Heinsohn
39:35oh he's there
39:37and standing absolutely helpless with
39:40that one
39:41it was slow across his goal but give
39:43the credit to Gordon Heinsohn and the
39:47salute says that's his first goal for
39:49Luton
39:51and what a time to get it
39:54and there goes Gibbons he doesn't look
39:56like as if he's got an injury now
39:58it's always in the post
40:02and Gibbons the lip suddenly comes back
40:04but here's Anderson
40:05Anderson going to get one
40:08oh he's there
40:13and with three minutes to go
40:17it's Anderson
40:25but most of the congratulations of the
40:29Luton players going over the other
40:31side of the field to Don Gibbons

41:54it's 1-0 Leeds
41:58and that was just about as most professional a goal as you can hope to see from Lorimer
42:03goalkeeper well off his line
42:04he started to blast it

42:31took it a fraction too far
42:33I'd love to be able to count up the number of passes
42:35that Forrest strung together
42:36seven or eight at least
42:38I would think
42:39keeping possession of the ball
42:42and the referee
42:43pointing
42:45the finger
42:47the finger of referee Sid Caley

44:05Eddie Gray two nothing
44:06and a very unhappy Jim Barron down there
44:08in a situation which Forrest

44:26the pictures there came from ATV
44:28and they've at least helped us a little bit
44:29in helping to solve the mystery
44:31of the sending off of Chapman of Nottingham Forest
44:33they tell us
44:33it was for an infringement by Chapman
44:35on the Leeds United striker Mick Jones
44:37well that's it from today
44:38hope very much you've enjoyed it
