INCREDIBLE GORILLA ENCOUNTERS SHOW FAMILY LIFE AND PLAYFUL MOMENTS
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
Extraordinary footage offers a rare glimpse into the intimate world of wild gorillas, from tender family moments to unexpected behaviour rarely seen in the wild.
The encounters were filmed by Nick Kleer, 38 from South Africa during guided expeditions in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
In one touching moment, a baby clings to its mother’s back as the family moves through the forest, highlighting the strong bonds within the troop.
In another rare sequence, gorillas approach a stream to drink, a behaviour Nick says he had waited years to witness.
While he had seen them cross water before, seeing them stop and interact with it in this way was a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Nick said: “I’ve seen them cross streams before, but never actually stop to drink.
“For this particular moment, I was sitting in the stream myself, waist-deep in the water, waiting for them to come down.
“I chose it carefully so I wouldn’t be in their way… giving them full choice to drink or cross without feeling disturbed.
“I sat there, quite uncomfortable… and just waited.
" Eventually, they came down to the water — and I was incredibly fortunate to witness this moment.
“Being with them is something out of this world. It’s absolutely extraordinary.”
