00:09there are people in this world whose life is filled with loneliness over like the last six
00:15months I have been bummed out just because like I've been out of work and they will go to any
00:20left to fix that I've been talking to this woman online she lives in Bulgaria she is in love with
00:28him and he is in love with her there was like that emotional connection a virtual girlfriend I guess
00:34you'd say wife is grand the problem is none of us true not even remotely true who did this to
00:42your
00:42family I don't know are there overseas connections do they know where the money was going or is this
00:50something more bizarre he was fixated what will he do to prevent his fantasy world from
00:57being destroyed I spent my career closing murder cases but I'm not the only one who answered the
01:14call it takes a rare breed to solve the unsolvable to catch a ruthless killer to find justice for the
01:26dead that's what it takes to be an American detective
01:53I'm not assuming the worst but like this is just very out of character he hasn't missed a day in
01:59five years so people become alarmed when the total
02:02really reliable Cody Amato is not where he's supposed to be
02:09deputies from the Seminole County Sheriff's Department arrive at the family home
02:16deputy sheriff doesn't get any response after making numerous attempts to try to alert anybody
02:22who's inside the house knocked on every window every door we got to go around back this way
02:30they've jimmied open the French doors with a pocket knife three five thirteen we'll be clearing the
02:36residence sheriff's office when they entered the home the police they found a pretty grisly scene
02:43with blood everywhere and a dead body in the kitchen and another body in another room and a third dead
02:55body
02:57we need backup we need homicide detectives we need crime scene people we need everything
03:05my name is Eva Marie Moultary and I was an investigator at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office right out of
03:11high
03:12school I became a nurse of nine years and then I had an opportunity to switch careers and go into
03:17law
03:17enforcement I always had a lifelong dream of that I really enjoyed the adrenaline and just being there for
03:25the families I received the call from the road that we have three bodies and it's all hands on deck
03:33it
03:35definitely is a shock for the area Chuliotta is not a place that we go for homicides primary
03:42activities out there are horseback riding folks have target shooting in their backyard it's very country
03:52detective Moultary arrives and is briefed by officers first on the scene three members of this family
03:59are dead in this house a common police expression for such a crime as a family wipeout when you first
04:08enter a crime scene that magnitude with three bodies you're observing everything crime scenes will speak to
04:16you if you listen the difficulty is crime scenes only whisper so you have to pay strict attention to what
04:23you're observing in the kitchen Moultary finds the body of the father Chad Amato age 59 I observed the
04:36male lying on his back there was a lot of blood around him he had two gunshot wounds to the
04:42head
04:44he also had a gun holster on his hip that certainly stood out it is unusual for someone to carry
04:52a
04:53weapon in their own home however they're obviously a gun enthusiast family there were a number of
05:00firearms located a shotgun rifles with a number of pistols the Amatos were avid gun folks we noticed the gun
05:09on
05:09his hip didn't look like it he attempted to take it out the fact that it was not drawn indicates
05:15that
05:15Chad Amato didn't know that was coming whoever shot him did so from behind him there's evidence of him
05:25having fallen at the sink there was blood all over the kitchen blood was smeared on the ground it appeared
05:32he was crawling away but then he was shot in the back of the head a second time it's an
05:38execution
05:42there was a lunchbox around him it appeared he had just come home from work
05:47Moultary notices chicken breasts on the kitchen counter that have been thawing
05:51so we're getting ready for dinner when nobody's in any condition to eat
05:58well Tari goes into the home office area and finds the body of Margaret age 61
06:07the mother of Cody and the wife of Chad
06:12she was sitting at her desk and she was slumped over she had blood around her face and head that
06:17we
06:17could see she was shot once in the back of the head execution stall there's an expended casing on the
06:25floor and it's a nine millimeter it appeared that Margaret was working at her desk and the position
06:32that she was in would make us believe that she had no idea that she was gonna be shot
06:44she is playing a computer game and having a glass of wine
06:51when somebody decides to blow her brains up
06:56if she heard someone walking up to her from behind she wouldn't be fearful
07:03no one anticipates being murdered in their own home
07:09Margaret never knew what hit her never knew
07:15finally Moultary turns her attention toward Cody the 31 year old nurse anesthetist that the
07:22co-workers initially called about they found Cody in the entryway between the garage and the gym area
07:30he was lying in a fetal position wearing scrubs as if he was coming back home from work
07:36he was shot once in the face and an exit through the back of his head there are no signs
07:41of a
07:41defensive position no signs of a struggle we noticed right near Cody's body was a nine millimeter pistol
07:50Cody Amato was known to carry a firearm so it's not necessarily unusual for a firearm to be
07:55uh next to his body it is possible that Cody Amato had a gun in his hand to fend off
08:01the attacker and
08:02dropped it when he was killed so we have three members of the Amato family shot to death with a
08:08nine
08:08millimeter what we don't find is any reason why they all needed to die we don't know if Chad is
08:16involved because he has a handgun on him we don't know if Cody's involved because he has a gun near
08:20him
08:21it's like how did this all happen once we saw the three bodies obviously our first thing is to see
08:27if there was any forced entry to see if anybody that the family did not know came in there were
08:31no signs of forced entry all the windows were closed the doors were locked there was nothing
08:36that appeared to be taken either of this perpetrator is Houdini or he was in the house with their
08:43permission so that's when we determined it had to have been someone they knew who is that someone we
08:48don't know the uniformed officers contact military and explain that there is a woman present Cody's
08:56girlfriend it is likely that she's gonna know a great deal about what's going on with his family
09:01it's time to question her right away Cody's girlfriend was very concerned but she did not
09:09know that Cody was dead we eventually had to tell her she was very upset she started telling us about
09:18Cody and that they met in nurse anesthetist school Cody Amato was a very very bright young man
09:25very gregarious kind funny outgoing everyone really liked coding he was he was a very positive influence
09:32Chad Amato was a pharmacist he was successful worked long hours a family man was always there for his boys
09:42Margaret was also in the medical field she loved horses she loved the outdoors she was a loving
09:48mother to her three kids Miltari learns there are two other sons in this family a 29 year old son
09:57named
09:57Grant and a 36 year old son named Jason Miltari asked the obvious question is there anything going on in
10:07Cody's life that's causing him to be upset or frightened or angry the girlfriend she said oh
10:14yeah he has told me that there are many arguments going on in the household and it stresses him out
10:22the girlfriend told me that Cody received a call the night before saying that there was a problem at the
10:27home and that he needed to leave work and come home and fix it he said he had to go
10:33deal with some
10:33stupid bullshit with his family in a very angry tone he storms off in an obvious state of distress and
10:43that was the last time she saw so what can that tell you well after determining that there was no
10:53forced
10:54entry it did cross our mind that Cody killed his parents and then turned the gun on himself
11:00could it be their own son
11:05yeah it could
11:08detective Miltari is trying to determine what happened to this family shot to death in their own home
11:15looking at the wound in his face is it possible that Cody Amato became so distressed with his parents
11:22he killed them and then turned the gun on himself we were trying to establish if it was a murder
11:27suicide but the injuries were not matching up to that Cody's gunshot was to his upper cheek area
11:37normally when we see suicide by gun it's to the temple now it's unlikely that Cody has a plastic arm
11:44how does he turn a four inch barreled handgun perpendicular to his face and pull the trigger
11:51it's not going to happen it can't happen and also what happens with a very close fired pistol is you'll
12:00get um burn marks from the gunpowder he didn't have that this is not a self-inflicted wound when Cody
12:09comes
12:10home he opens that door and now he's dead
12:15manner of death homicide
12:19once we determined that it was probably not a murder-suicide one thing that was suspicious to us
12:25there was a gun on Chad Amato's waist
12:27the holster is cross draw it's on backwards requiring the gun to be pulled with the left hand
12:35Chad Amato was right-handed and the way the gun was positioned it was opposite to how you would draw
12:40a pistol and that just didn't make any sense further this body it's produced a massive amount
12:48of blood but there is no blood on the holster this gun it's put there after the fact
12:56it appeared that the crime scene had been staged whoever shot Chad puts a gun holstered on his belt
13:04in an attempt to make it look like he was armed and was unable to draw this gun in defense
13:10of himself
13:12and then the gun was placed next to Cody to make it look as if he shot himself
13:16to create an atmosphere of murder-suicide and doing the absolutely impossibly worst job of it you think
13:25well who is the stupid son of a bitch who did this
13:32so the next step is Miltari is going to go speak to the coroner to determine the outcome of the
13:37autopsies
13:38but the coroner notices something interesting about Chad Amato's body that Miltari did not notice at the scene
13:46all of his fingers were covered in blood except for one and that would have been the right index finger
13:50that was very very clean and the vision of the coroner that someone had taken that dead hand
13:57and carefully cleaned the right index finger that was very odd what would be the purpose of that
14:08the ballistics people and the police laboratory examined the handguns found near the bodies
14:13none of the firearms that were found in the house were a match a different firearm was used for the
14:19homicides so we never found the murder weapon on scene the killer is still armed which makes him
14:27exceedingly dangerous at this point we were still trying to rule out who could have did this we needed
14:35to talk to the other family members that are still around Cody said this was all about the bullshit with
14:42his family but there are two other members of this family that so far are unaccounted for
14:48the two other members are Grant Amato and Jason Amato Grant did live in the home with the family we
14:56don't know
14:56what happened to Grant if he was a victim and escaped saw something Jason Amato is Margaret's son from a
15:04previous
15:04relationship raised as a child by the father even though not a natural child still a part of the family
15:12Jason was more of an outsider it appeared he was one that just stuck to his own life
15:17stepchildren are often the source of difficulty in families so we'll begin with him
15:26they find Jason where he lives they make contact they inform him what's happened investigators pay close
15:33attention to his reactions he was completely shocked he was devastated those kinds of emotions are very
15:43difficult to fake as an explanation for his whereabouts of prior evening that is ironclad Jason didn't do this
15:52further they inquire with Jason what can you tell us about Grant Cody and Grant were very close from all
16:00accounts Grant looked up to Cody quite a bit emulated him hung out with him all the time
16:06Grant was going to follow in Cody's footsteps he became a nurse he went to a good school he got
16:13along just fine but then things around him were kind of collapsing Jason Amato shared with the
16:21sheriff's office that there was in fact a family strife with regard to Grant
16:33he was working in 2018 for a local hospital here as a nurse and and had gotten trouble for
16:41essentially overdosing his patients he is apparently been administering propofol which is what killed
16:49Michael Jackson he's been giving those to patients it sounds like yeah non-prescribed when he spoke to
16:55the Orlando Police Department he had indicated that he didn't agree with the doctor's prescribed
17:00amounts and was taking it upon himself to give these patients relief from their ailments Grant was
17:07someone who is right all the time knows more than other people and is smarter than other people in the
17:15state of Florida when you are giving an excessive amount of medication to a patient it's considered
17:20theft and also medical negligence Orange County dropped those charges but he lost his job as a
17:27result after Grant had the legal troubles he started to spiral downward he was very depressed and he would
17:39find himself at home just in his bedroom gaming a lot on the computer he was alone he was lonely
17:46he had
17:46no direction in that circumstance unsurprisingly you can go into the world of being online and finding
17:53someone to spend time with Jason is aware that Grant now has a girlfriend and that they met online and
18:02that
18:03he is a much happier person than he's been in the recent past but where is Grant what is he
18:10up to at this point Grant is
18:13certainly a person of interest perhaps even a suspect it's all hands on deck to try and find him to
18:19talk to
18:20him we were looking at his easy pass to see his way of travel his digital footprint from a cell
18:27phone and so
18:28we knew kind of an area where he was at they knew the car that he was in they knew
18:34the plate number so
18:35obviously that was put out some very good sheriff's office deputies found that particular car he was at
18:49a hotel in Orange County 10 miles away from his home the police show up to the hotel like arm
18:57to the
18:57teeth looking for Grant right the car is clearly not in the car we need to lock everything down yeah
19:04we
19:04need to get in this hotel and people out yeah the police believe that Grant could be involved in this
19:09if they're right he's got a gun and he's deranged definitely it makes him pretty dangerous so they're
19:27all you hear is a bunch of snaps being unsnapped which is everybody's holsters
19:34are you doing a favor call the other rooms not that room make sure no one call their room and
19:40start
19:40saying hey you need to come out of the room and come downstairs drywall doesn't stop bullets
19:47you quietly move some people away from him and isolate him in a box
19:54we got to go now okay we have everyone out of here then you make an attempt at contact and
20:02see what happens
20:05you plan for the worst and you hope for the best
20:11want to come out and play Grant because we'd like to play with you
20:20to knock on a door and wonder if it's going to end up in gunfire is an activity that focuses
20:26the mind
20:27let's go the world slows down noise around you stops and you can feel your heartbeat in your fingertips
20:39it's quite a moment the door opens and it's not Godzilla it's not even a Mothra it's a little skinny
20:58kid it looks like he's scared to death well you must be Grant he's in his nursing uniform and unarmed
21:06he's completely compliant with them I mean I have my my like duffel bag and whatnot in there you guys
21:11want to check that we search the room we find no gun no anything you're being cooperative sir we
21:21appreciate that some Seminole County detectives want to talk to you when Grant is apprehended at
21:25the hotel he is not charged I tell him that his family's dead and he voluntarily went to the
21:32Seminole County Sheriff's Office the forensic team has stayed behind to search the car while
21:40Detective Miltari and her partner sit down with Grant hi I'm Eva hi how are you I'm here so we
21:49just
21:49want to talk a little bit and get this in and out be on our way okay they both know
21:53that there's no
21:54concrete evidence that ties him to this offense they need something from him what do you like to do
22:01what do I like to do I like to watch anime me and my brother kind of started doing that
22:05back
22:07five years ago in the beginning we're just trying to build a rapport with him
22:13I don't I understand a few words Grant was not shy to answer any questions
22:18we actually just got like a virtual reality headset thingy for like the computer that was kind of fun
22:25this isn't normal for knowing that your family's dead that you're talking to us this calmly and
22:30telling us about the things you're interested in a number of years ago like me and my brother were
22:35actually like gun enthusiasts we would go like clay shooting we just kept running with it hoping that he
22:41would open up to us over like last six months I had been bummed out just because like I've been
22:46out of
22:46work my dad would like make me feel guilty to that Grant said he was close with his mother but
22:51him and his father had a lot of tension my dad the leo type a definitely very overbearing but he
22:57would always rationalize that he's just trying to like secure our future when was the last time that
23:02you and your dad did have you know a heated conversation uh it would be Thursday Grant explains the
23:11night of the murders he got in a horrible screaming match with his father he was yelling at
23:17me to pack my up and just get out of the house Grant says he left drove around for most
23:23of the night and
23:25wound up sleeping in his car but you left your house everybody was fine yeah everything was fine he explains
23:35to the
23:35investigators that the next morning he drives back to his house I saw like a news van and then there
23:45there might have been like a cop car there so I left he decides to turn around and go the
23:55other way
23:55which is just very odd normal person would drive there talk to the cops do whatever you can
24:02to get down to the bottom of what happened at your home and then what I searched for like top
24:09stories
24:10juliot or something like that found what and then I saw that there was shootings well what was your
24:16thoughts when you reviewed that story I was freaking out and I didn't know what to do
24:22Grant says that he becomes frightened by this and decides to get a hotel room what Grant is telling
24:30these detectives a story that would insult a three-year-old so what do you think happened I don't know
24:37what
24:37happened he's obviously lying and he's getting more agitated now that we keep questioning him
24:44about it so they ask him you say you had a heated argument with your father why did he say
24:52he needed
24:52to go what was his reason over the past four months or something like that I've been talking to this
24:59woman
24:59online Grant indicates that him and his father get into an argument about his girlfriend Grant says
25:06but he completely disapproves of my girlfriend Sylvie okay where's she in she lives in Bulgaria
25:12what Bulgaria Bulgaria you say that's not exactly next door to Orlando Florida
25:33and goes on to explain I'd buy time to chat with her and have her do things for me some
25:40of it
25:41uh sexual some of it not sexual because there was like that emotional connection I guess you could say
25:46uh between her and me like I I like you know it felt like like like a relationship
25:54so how are you
25:57he was telling us that it was his girlfriend and that he was in love with her and she was
26:01in love
26:01with him I mean how true can that be you're paying her for your time that's not a true relationship
26:07but that's what he believed don't say to me I can't possibly love this girl because I do
26:15he is holding on to sanity by a thread what happens if somebody cuts the thread
26:27detectives have learned that the girlfriend of Grant is nothing less than a camera girl
26:33who's making a living taking her clothes off for clients who pay her to do so
26:38all right Sylvia I'm asking you if you can please pretty please
26:46send me one of your videos
26:47so how much do you think you spent
26:49um probably close to like two hundred thousand dollars
26:55two hundred thousand dollars
26:57yeah
26:57wow Grant you are a major problem
27:03to spend that much money on someone you don't even know I was completely shocked
27:10it never met her in person but he was giving her thousands of dollars per day
27:16he was buying her a variety of gifts lingerie and sex toys and all kinds of things
27:21he's told Sylvie that he's very wealthy he drives a BMW that he's a very successful twitch gamer
27:31nice
27:31and just has a great life
27:34Grant is living in a fantasy world
27:38in reality he's a little jerk that lives with his parents and is unemployed
27:43and where did the money come from?
27:44money came from me, my brother and then my dad
27:48did they know where the money was going then?
27:50they didn't know that it was going to a cam model
27:53these suspicious charges kept popping up
27:55and for a while Grant was explaining that it was part of his twitch gaming profile
28:00and then the amounts just were out of control
28:03that's kind of how they figured out something was going on
28:06he was stealing tens of thousands of dollars from his father and Cody
28:10instead of involving the police
28:13the Amatos because they love their son
28:15decided to try to handle it as a family unit
28:21my father chose to admit me to a depression or an addiction clinic or something like that in Fort Lauderdale
28:29they decide that they're going to take him away from social media computers
28:33and they take away his cell phone and take away it all
28:36now the problem there is that this was a unique type of addiction
28:40that required unique care
28:42that rehab facility was not tailored to that specific type of addiction
28:46so their final diagnosis of he was what?
28:49that I was fine
28:49he's supposed to be there for six to eight weeks
28:52and the second week his mother shows up and takes him out
29:00and when I came back my dad
29:03he had this list of all the rules
29:06and his dad drafts up this two-page agreement
29:09of the things he's supposed to do
29:11like get a job
29:13stay off the computer
29:15pay back the money you stole from everyone
29:16and one of the stipulations was that if you speak to this woman again
29:21you're out of the house
29:22I'm kicking you out
29:23Grant doesn't take that very well
29:29he disregards the agreement
29:32because there was like that emotional connection
29:33I didn't want to just stop cold turkey on it
29:35he was addicted to Sylvie
29:37he loved being on that high
29:39and that's why he would continue stealing the money
29:41to keep in touch with her
29:43on Thursday
29:44he had apparently found out that I was speaking to her again
29:50dad gets very upset
29:51tells him to pack his s*** and get the hell out
29:55so according to Grant
29:56he was out of there by nine
29:57he had threatened me that if I stepped foot back on his property
30:00that he would kill me
30:01and like he had
30:02he said those specific words
30:03according to Grant
30:05he'd been thrown out of the house
30:06and that's why he wasn't there for the murders
30:11he's trying to give himself an alibi
30:12what he's done instead is to give them a motive
30:16he's a little worse at coming up with alibis
30:19than he was at staging crime scenes
30:22Miltari is questioning him
30:24when the forensic team that had been searching the car
30:26opens the door to the room
30:28and says excuse me
30:29we have something you need to see right away
30:33there was a note in the car
30:34that was written
30:35that stated
30:37I said to take care of all of your problems at the house
30:40and I have
30:41no one will bother you again
30:43regarding this
30:44just please come home
30:47so what is that?
30:49Grant
30:49he told us that he wrote it
30:51so he could remember what Cody had said to him
30:54after I got kicked out
30:55I had met with my brother before he came home
30:58just like in the neighborhood area
31:00I basically brought him up to speed
31:02and he had told me that
31:04he was going to take care of it for me
31:06and that's all that I know
31:08so they ask him
31:09what do you think this means Grant?
31:10well I think it means that Cody is the one who killed our parents
31:16hmm
31:16and why would you think that?
31:19to protect me
31:20or to help me
31:21or to do something with me
31:23we knew he was full of shit
31:25we knew it wasn't a murder-suicide
31:27it's all lies
31:29you've painted this picture
31:30of how close you are with your brother
31:31and now you're trying to point fingers at him
31:33that he did this
31:34that was a trigger for us
31:35to know that he's guilty as hell
31:38so you're telling me
31:39you did not shoot Cody
31:41your father or your mother?
31:43no
31:43he still was adamant
31:44that he was not responsible for these deaths
31:46so after several hours of hearing
31:49bullshit
31:50lies
31:51I wanted to see his reaction
31:53when I showed him the crime scene photos
31:56did you leave the house
31:57with your brother Cody looking like that?
32:02or did you leave the house
32:03with your father looking like that?
32:05or your mother?
32:07is that how you left your family?
32:11no
32:11he's completely detached
32:13there's no emotion
32:15and then when there is emotion
32:17it's a fake cry
32:19I didn't do any of this
32:21you could see right through him
32:23if you were the one that's been depressed
32:25you were the one that owes money
32:26you were the one that got into a confrontation
32:27with your father
32:28who did this to your family?
32:30I mean I don't know
32:31like what more I can say
32:32he is a sociopath
32:34eyes like a shark
32:36nothing
32:38no feelings
32:39no anything
32:42detectives try one last tactic
32:48to send Jason in alone
32:51and speak to his baby brother
32:55we were hoping Jason would get through to him
32:57to give us some type of answer
32:59I just
33:00I'm going to ask you
33:01you are not part of it anyway
33:03no
33:05things aren't adding up
33:07I'm really confused
33:08Jason
33:10he's very emotional
33:11he doesn't know what to think
33:12he doesn't understand
33:13how it led up to this point
33:14I need you
33:16to be honest with me man
33:18he was just trying to be consoling
33:20and being a loving brother
33:23just again to try to build that rapport
33:24for Grant to open up to him
33:26I don't know
33:27I don't have the answers
33:29and
33:30he never did
33:32you already made the decision
33:33on whether or not they can live or not
33:36that's by your job
33:39alright I'm ready
33:41I do love you though
33:43just remember that
33:45just like mom
33:46Cody and dad loved you
33:48I was frustrated
33:50I knew he wasn't going to break
33:56it's an attempt
33:57and a reasonable one
33:58that might work
33:59except it didn't
34:01do you have anything else
34:03you need to talk about
34:04before we
34:04let you go
34:05because now's your time
34:06you know that
34:07I know
34:08you can live with yourself
34:09knowing that you're not going to
34:10tell us the truth
34:11I said what I can say
34:14I said what I can say
34:15that's his last words to me
34:17nothing to try and convince us
34:19that he was not the one
34:20who committed these crimes
34:22Grant Amato
34:23is as guilty
34:24as the day is long
34:26but they are forced to say
34:28the dreaded words
34:29thank you for coming in
34:30you're free to go
34:33it's the last thing
34:34you want to do
34:35because you never know
34:36if he's going to find a way
34:37to make himself disappear
34:44you never want to be the one
34:45that has to say
34:46you're free to go
34:47you're the one
34:48that wants to say
34:49stand up and turn around
34:50you're under arrest
34:52so we take Grant
34:53to a hotel room
34:54and several deputies
34:56were placed at the hotel
34:57to watch him
34:58because we needed time
34:59to gather enough
35:00for an arrest warrant
35:03because the sheriff's office
35:05knew that Grant
35:06was tied to the digital world
35:10they turned their investigation
35:12to focus on
35:14the digital forensics
35:15so they noticed
35:16that the night of the murders
35:18according to Grant's
35:19telephone records
35:21he spent $599
35:23to join Sylvie's
35:25private video session
35:28where is he getting this money
35:31Grant is broke
35:33we were able to
35:34piece together
35:35a minute by minute
35:37account
35:37of Chad Amato's cell phone
35:39they noticed
35:40that the cell phone
35:41goes silent
35:42at 5.52pm
35:44so that puts
35:45Chad's time of death
35:46around 6
35:47but then
35:48his fingerprint
35:49was used to unlock
35:50his banking app
35:51on his phone
35:51to try and move money around
35:52around 11 o'clock at night
35:54way after death
35:57Moltari thinks back
35:59to the autopsy
36:00and recalls
36:01that the right index finger
36:03of the victim
36:04was cleaned
36:04and wiped of blood
36:06light bulb goes off
36:07Grant Amato
36:08must have cleaned
36:09his father's finger off
36:10placed it on the phone
36:11and unlocked the phone
36:12bingo
36:14so within hours
36:16of murdering his family
36:17our hero Grant
36:19is spending more
36:20of his father's money
36:21to engage again
36:22with Sylvie
36:23his dearest love
36:26there is the final nail
36:28in Grant's coffin
36:31we went out
36:32to the hotel room
36:33and Grant Amato
36:34was placed under arrest
36:35for the three homicides
36:37he is charged
36:39with three counts
36:40of first degree
36:40premeditated murder
36:41again no emotion
36:44he just went with it
36:45turned around
36:46put his hands
36:46behind his back
36:47and he was
36:48brought down
36:49to the sheriff's office
36:52so now
36:53we were trying
36:53to determine
36:54the woman
36:54he was speaking
36:55to Sylvie
36:56in Bulgaria
36:56if she had any
36:58role in this
36:58as well
36:59we reached out
37:00to the Bulgarian
37:00consulate
37:01and the sheriff's
37:03office realized
37:03that the Bulgarian
37:05girl had nothing
37:07to do with his
37:08at all
37:08other than being
37:09the object
37:09of his affection
37:10so Sylvie is out
37:12but Grant
37:14is all the way in
37:18without a statement
37:19from Grant Amato
37:20they really don't know
37:22what happened
37:22in that house
37:24but the evidence
37:25would suggest
37:26the spark
37:27that started
37:27this event
37:28was the absolute
37:30nature
37:30of the cutoff
37:34he was losing
37:35everything
37:35so I think
37:37his only way out
37:38was to just
37:38get rid of them
37:39and try and salvage
37:40what he could
37:42he needed money
37:43to feed his
37:44fantasy world
37:45his parents had it
37:47and they wouldn't
37:48give it to him
37:48so he's going
37:49to take it
37:54Grant comes
37:55into where
37:55his mother
37:56is playing a game
37:57in a computer
38:00and executes her
38:01without comment
38:02first to die
38:04Grant lived there
38:05so he knows
38:05all their habits
38:06he positioned himself
38:07in the living room
38:08across from the kitchen
38:10and waited for his
38:12father to come home
38:18bullet goes in the back
38:19of Chad Amato's head
38:21he falls to the ground
38:23he's crawling
38:24he's crawling on the floor
38:25Grant walks over
38:26top of him
38:29puts the second bullet
38:30in the back of his head
38:33then Grant
38:34puts a gun
38:35holstered
38:36on his belt
38:37in an attempt
38:38to make it look
38:38like he was armed
38:40and was unable
38:40to draw this gun
38:42in defense of himself
38:47Grant makes a phone call
38:49to his brother Cody
38:50to lure him home
38:56Cody walks
38:57into the doorway
38:58to the interior
38:59of the home
39:01and is immediately
39:02shot in the face
39:05with a nine millimeter
39:08our hero
39:09throws a gun
39:10on the floor
39:11to make it look
39:12as if Cody
39:13killed everybody
39:14and killed himself
39:15he is thinking
39:16he's being very clever
39:18but he puts
39:19the wrong gun
39:20on the floor
39:21it's not the murder
39:22weapon
39:22he is an idiot
39:26I think Grant
39:26thought he had
39:27the plan
39:27figured out perfectly
39:28and it clearly
39:29didn't work out
39:30that way
39:37just a few months
39:38after the murders
39:39on July 15th
39:40of 2019
39:42Grant Amato's
39:43trial begins
39:45Grant's emotion
39:46in the courtroom
39:47was
39:49very distant
39:50very cold
39:51he just pretty much
39:52sat there
39:53that was the last time
39:54that I saw
39:55Cody
39:56Cody
39:56you're my dad
39:57the only time
39:59he elicited
39:59any kind of response
40:01was when
40:02we were publishing
40:03photographs
40:04of Sylvie
40:05for the jury
40:10he perked up
40:11was transfixed
40:12I am hyper-focused
40:14on her
40:14Grant Amato
40:16you've been found
40:17guilty
40:17for killing
40:18both your mother
40:19your father
40:20and your brother
40:21I would sentence
40:21you to
40:22life imprisonment
40:24without any possibility
40:25of parole
40:25God have mercy
40:26on your soul
40:27when I learned
40:29that he was found
40:29guilty
40:30that's when I knew
40:30me and my team
40:31did a good job
40:32the reaction
40:33for Grant
40:34was no
40:35real reaction
40:36just
40:37same old
40:39flat line
40:40Grant Amato
40:42you can't understand
40:44people like this
40:45there is no understanding
40:46they do what they do
40:47Grant focused on
40:49imaginary love
40:50and the imaginary life
40:52because he couldn't
40:53face reality
40:54because there was
40:56no woman
40:56in this country
40:57that was gonna love him
40:59except his own mother
41:00and he put a bullet
41:01in her head
41:04you give life
41:06and sometimes
41:07that life
41:08takes yours
41:10on the next
41:11American detective
