00:01took my daughter to an indoor play place okay these places are literally life-saving when it
00:08comes to bad weather for sure because it's like and every time we go she sleeps so much better
00:16that night because of course because you're exerting all the energy yeah there used to be
00:20a little little play area in our local mall that i would take the kids to but of course that
00:25mall
00:25is now closed so i wouldn't even know what to do this place is amazing right we actually just bought
00:31a ticket for 10 stamps so like saves you like eight bucks per visit wow if you pay in full
00:38right
00:38and and there's no limit there's limit 10 stamps but anyway the point is we love it so we go
00:44there
00:44i'm playing with mckinley emily at 36 weeks pregnant is not going to be climbing around this thing right
00:49so she's like hey i'm gonna run across the street i gotta pick something up at a store so i'm
00:53like i
00:53got this so we're playing we're having fun she braved the big slide and she did it she's been
00:58saying she's too scared now she does it by herself good girl dad's crawling around we're having so much
01:02fun and a little girl comes up to her and says hey do you want to go down the slide
01:05with me now
01:06we're at the bottom so you got to climb through everything and she goes yeah yeah yeah yeah and
01:11looks at me and i knew that look it almost made me cry which was like daddy like i've got
01:19this like
01:19you don't need to come with me i have my friend here okay okay cool she goes down i see
01:24her go
01:25down they're holding hands it's adorable they go down again and then all of a sudden i'm right there
01:31i see mckinley at the bottom of the slide and her friends know where to be found and she's kind
01:34of
01:34this way and that and looking around and i find her and i say what's going on she where's my
01:39friend
01:40where's my friend i said well i don't know where your friend is but i'll play with you she's
01:44okay so we go back in we're crawling around we find her friend and her friend she says hi friend
01:50and she goes you're not my friend what and then she looks at me and she says this little girl
01:57looks
01:58at me and says i don't want to play with her anymore oh and i'm just gonna say this i'm
02:03just
02:03gonna say this i debated whether or not to say this on the radio but i've never felt like punting
02:08a child before strictly out of defense of my own child you know what i mean like that energy
02:14took me over so quickly obviously i didn't do anything right you could do anything to me but
02:20do not do not do not come at my kid and so like she's she should be three in august
02:26so this is like
02:27really she's entering that era and andy i would love your take here because it's like she's entering
02:32this era of like independence but also like i can't always be there to protect her right when she
02:39starts going to school in the fall when she starts doing all these things people are gonna say
02:42things kids are gonna say stuff so i look at her and i say i'll play with you and her
02:47eyes are
02:47welling a little bit yeah the words hurt her and then when we went down the slide together she looks
02:52at me and she gives me a hug and she said thanks for being my friend daddy oh and i
02:57don't want to cry
02:58i just felt like as silly as it sounds like this world can be so cruel yeah but to just
03:05in that moment
03:05be her person right right it's really the first time i felt like she has been hurt by not something
03:11like
03:11oh you can't have a snack or you can't have that or this like truly hurt yeah and i could
03:17be there
03:17for her and i know this cup of joy probably sounds a little self-serving but like i've always wanted
03:22to be a dad and i've always wanted somebody to look at me the way i looked at my dad
03:28my hero and to
03:29like finally be that in that moment was like the coolest thing that's awesome so wait just to be
03:36clear you did not punt that little girl no i have a court date next week i did i did
03:40uh
03:41yeah i'm just kidding i followed up yeah yeah i like we're out of here girl be my i was
03:47like we
03:48are not looking at her when i and we ran by her later and mckinley didn't even look at her
03:52she's like
03:52we're just i'm playing with my dad i'm gonna soak in these moments for as long as she wants to
03:56play
03:57with me because i know that can be fleeting yeah they get older you're no longer cool i can't think
04:04about those days but yeah i just i love that little girl so so much and i'm glad i could
04:08share
