00:00and if you've listened to our show before you know that the three of us experienced

00:05loss in our families all like unusually close to each other for sure just a couple months apart

00:12we even noted that all on major holidays yeah yeah my uncle passed away on labor day donnie

00:18your mom on new year's day and your sister on saint patrick's day right and everybody deals

00:23with grief differently and i had a really i had a really tough day yesterday and i had zero plans

00:32on talking about this today as a cup of joy why would you ever talk about oh i had a really grief

00:37stricken day why would you make that a cup of joy and it's because of a conversation i had with my

00:43wife emily so at the end of the show yesterday i'm super super anal about things i like things to be

00:49very clean and organized as you guys know right so i got in this weird wind of energy the end of

00:54the show yesterday to clean out my voicemail box i was like i've never done this and there's

00:59thousands of messages holy cow you don't delete messages no i just i never i never even knew that

01:04was a thing when they changed to the visual voicemail on your phone i didn't even know it was a thing

01:09so i realized i have sex so i'm sitting there on our little couch delete delete delete delete delete

01:14and that's when i see a voicemail from my uncle who passed away from als back in 2023

01:20and for those who aren't familiar with the disease of als commonly most people one of their first

01:26symptoms is losing your voice right because of the the muscles in your throat and muscles in your

01:32whole body stop working really the motor neurons stop firing the whole thing but their voice is one

01:38of the first things to leave so i haven't heard my uncle's voice not just since he passed but since

01:43years before that and there was a voicemail and i wasn't even i was like oh well my uncle and i

01:49used to talk on the phone all the time this can't be like hey you know it's gonna be call me back

01:55right all right talk to you soon i will see you this weekend and i clicked play patrick

02:02this is the biggest day ever you and emily are now engaged to be married that is the coolest thing

02:11ever your mom and dad must be over the hills because i know how excited i am and now we're

02:18gonna have a wedding in las vegas it is wonderful wonderful news put your arms around her for me

02:25that's a beautiful ring you got her and we will talk very very soon okay my boy you take care bye

02:31bye oh my gosh jeff and it's like it's not what i was expecting you know i was thinking it's just

02:38gonna be like a little reminder of his voice and i was so upset all day yesterday it was so hard

02:44i was bursting into tears which is uncharacteristic for me sure i like to stay as positive and happy

02:52as possible and and my wife came downstairs when i was working and i was really struggling

02:57and she said jeff now you have this forever like you have this moment and it was like the coolest

03:03thing and it became this such a positive thing now and isn't it interesting that it kind of pops

03:08into your life almost when you need it those things right those little signs you know and

03:12everybody has seen them donnie i know that you know you've mentioned times when you're having a

03:18tough day or whatever and then all of a sudden you'll kind of get a sign always i mean this is

03:23actually your uncle's voice right like what a beautiful beautiful thing thank goodness that you're

03:30not deleting all those i know as they come through and i won't play the other one because i was like this

03:35one's got to be a goofball one and it was right after my sister asked me to be my my my nephew's godfather

03:42yeah and he was talking about how important that job is and how great that job is and you know he

03:47was the only person on earth to call me patrick which is my middle name and that's how he started

03:52i didn't understand what he said every call every call so right when i heard it i was like wow i

03:58haven't been called that in so long that is so sweet and sometimes we just need that sometimes we

04:03like you know it was interesting my friend jane sent me a text last night she came across something

04:07from her mom oh and her mom has passed away years ago you know but she said i just i've been

04:13really weepy because i came across this and i said it's really interesting that you went through the

04:18exact same thing yesterday because i said jane like sometimes it feels so good to feel that hurt

04:26yeah of loss because it shows that you had someone in your life that you loved and treasured so deeply

04:35it felt so good after i really cried yeah because all day well not all day at work but towards the

04:40end of work i was like holding it back i didn't cry in the car right i got home and i just like

04:45exploded and it felt so good for lack of a better term and it felt like man this is so beautiful

04:50exactly as you said andy to have something to miss to have something that loved me so much
