00:01Ron Arad is one of the most important figures in contemporary design
00:05who has never stopped experimenting with form, materials and their functionalities.
00:11The solo exhibition Ron Arad 1992-2026 at the Opera Gallery in Monaco
00:17spans 35 years of the creative journey of the 75 year old British Israeli artist
00:22through a series of his iconic works.
00:24I have a studio and it's like a progressive kindergarten.
00:34You know, I mean it is driven by curiosity and we are very privileged that, you know,
00:42we can try everything that we want and it's from very little things, from jewellery to skyscrapers.
00:50You know, we designed a tall building, designed a hospital, a museum and small objects
00:58and there's no need to define exactly what we do.
01:03We do things that we are interested in and lucky other people are interested in what we do,
01:08otherwise we wouldn't be able to survive.
01:09And the key elements are things that I'm excited to explore, to sketch, to talk about, to model, to develop,
01:19to build
01:19and to see, like here in this exhibition, the pieces that I made 30 years ago or more.
01:27Known for his radical approach, Arad challenges the boundaries between art, architecture and industrial design.
01:35You know, to design or to make art is always a symbiosis between the will of the artist, the process
01:43and what the materials will let you do and what happens.
01:47There's no bad materials and there's no bad colors, they're all good, depends what you do with them.
01:52People always ask you, where do you get ideas from?
01:55Ideas are the easiest thing in the world. There's no shortage of ideas.
02:01The difficulty is to know which ideas you give your time to, which ideas you invest in and which ideas
02:08you just let go.
02:09The exhibition Ron Aran 1992-2026 at the Opera Gallo in Monaco is presented as part of their Principality's Art
02:16Week and runs until May 28th.
