00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:25Insolidated Dispatch, Operator 381.
00:27Yes, hi.
00:28So, I'm the Chief, I can get you at the Canada Outlet.
00:31We have a few buses that are here,
00:34a group of young, like called 13-year-old girls,
00:36and they need to afford this bus.
00:39We have somebody, I don't know if they're alive.
00:42They, like, right next to the bus, sitting there on the wood line,
00:46which is terrifying.
00:48I'm not concerned if you're sending the closest to all the units.
00:58Do you see that ghost is right there?
01:01There is a deceased female.
01:04Blunt-force trauma to the head.
01:08So, around 7.53 this morning,
01:11patrol responded to a call for an unidentified body in the bushes.
01:17Initially, we thought it was potentially a hit-and-run.
01:20He's in almost full rigor.
01:23Looking at it, you can tell if she wasn't hit by a car,
01:25she would be beaten up.
01:27It looks like it's going to be a homicide.
01:29Your baby will be around.
01:38For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half
01:43if they don't get a lead within the first 48 hours.
01:53North Charleston, South Carolina.
01:57I love North Charleston because it is a unique city.
02:03I mean, people flock here.
02:04100,000 people to, like, 200 and some thousand people during the day.
02:09North Charleston is a truly diverse city.
02:13The city of North Charleston, the police department and the community itself,
02:16is just a big family.
02:18And, you know, our crime rate is steady dropping.
02:21You know, we're getting the bad guys off the street.
02:24We deal with a lot of high-end situations that perhaps a cop in a smaller town
02:28wouldn't get that kind of experience.
02:29I do like that about North Charleston, that you never know what's going to happen.
02:34I feel that the community interacts very well with police.
02:38We've spent a long time building that trust.
02:42Well, I would say at least 50% of the people that we get in contact with,
02:46I either know a family member or went to school with a family member
02:49or we actually grew up in the same neighborhood.
02:51And be able to help these moms and dads and families members,
02:54I feel great about that.
02:57You have to have a servant's heart somewhere down inside of you.
02:59You have to come in here to say that I'm going to serve people
03:02and that I'm going to be the one that's going to fight
03:04for those who can't fight for themselves.
03:07The team has a 73% solve rate, 20% higher than the national average.
03:14First thing that pops in my head when I think of unit is unity.
03:17You know, friendship, family.
03:19We all work together, always have each other's back.
03:22We're always there to help each other to accomplish the same goal.
03:26We all come from different backgrounds of life.
03:30We all have different years of experience in law enforcement.
03:34Sergeant Bailey just told me this morning he's got a pair of socks that are older than I am.
03:39Unlike some departments, North Charleston doesn't immediately assign a lead detective, approaching each case as a team.
03:46When we have a homicide occur, it could be a day or two later that we'll assign a case agent
03:52to it.
03:52And a lot of things come into factor with that.
03:55The connections that could be made on scene, you'll see that one detective has a stronger connection with the family
04:01than another detective.
04:04If it's going to be solved relatively quick, you're going to want to assign that to somebody that's going to
04:08be able to get everything together in a timely fashion.
04:11We're here trying to do the right thing, get justice for people.
04:22So right now we're heading over to the Tanger outlet area.
04:25We've got a female that's deceased in the bushes over near one of the hotels in between.
04:31We have homeless population in the area.
04:34So, you know, vulnerable people in bad situations.
04:47She took one to her head, to her right eye.
04:52The cause of death is blunt force trauma.
04:54I'm not seeing a club or a bar.
04:58Might have just beat her with his hands, honestly.
05:02She looks pretty fragile.
05:05I'm trying to identify her.
05:07Detectives find no identification on the victim.
05:11The coroner will get all that information.
05:14Hopefully, if she's been in Charleston County, we'll get her identified by fingerprints.
05:22On this side are a lot of the bushes.
05:25You can tell they're broken.
05:26Very possible she was pulled in from this side.
05:32Bunch of fingernails.
05:37Possible struggle out here.
05:44I like about blood and drag marks.
05:49I really got to wait to find out who she is.
05:51I just want to really get further from there.
05:53Hey, go over here.
05:55See if they'll keep you in attendance.
05:58Now is the job of figuring out where we got a couple of witnesses.
06:08Hello, how are you?
06:09I'm Detective Miller.
06:10This is Detective Miller.
06:12We got a new family.
06:21So we got multiple witnesses.
06:24The team identifies two hotel residents who might have information about the victim.
06:30One of the gentlemen that's been saying that a girl named Kelly, he saw her wearing like a blue sweatshirt
06:36and like some blue sweatpants.
06:37And that clothing kind of matches what our victims wear.
06:41So the lady I spoke to, she's not from here.
06:44She said her friend left and never returned last night.
06:48The two witnesses are taken to homicide for questioning.
06:52We have a name.
06:54We'll start going through the tenant list.
06:58Fire extinguisher over there.
07:00It's not in the right spot.
07:01Okay.
07:02CSI finds a fire extinguisher left near the hotel's front office.
07:06Maybe it's going to be related.
07:08Take photos of the fingerprint where it's supposed to be.
07:11I'm trying to find her on camera, seeing who she was with.
07:16Corporal Tim Holly and Detective Cameron Miller break off to look for nearby businesses with surveillance cameras.
07:23All right, I'm going through the office.
07:35Okay, thanks.
07:39In the corner, we've got the fingerprints back.
07:42So it's going to be Kelly Wingate.
07:48That's going to be her.
07:5048-year-old Kelly Wallace Wingate was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina.
07:56She had three daughters, ages 29, 28, and 13, and a 16-year-old son, who thought of her as
08:04the cool mom, who loved to paint.
08:0713 years ago, she opened a carpentry store, but struggled with drug addiction, and ended up living on the street.
08:16Looks like the victim's daughter is local.
08:19The coroner will be making that notification.
08:26At least 30-plus arrests for drugs and shoplifting.
08:30We'll try to draw a link.
08:31Let's try to figure out what the link is.
08:34He knew Kelly would start with him.
08:44Hi.
08:46So this is, I'm just at reach.
08:48We met out there at the hotel.
08:50Mm-hmm.
08:51Oh, I appreciate you coming in and talking to me.
08:54Feels right.
08:58Sorry.
09:01Tell me all about Kelly.
09:03Kelly is an homeless lady from here.
09:07Kelly does drugs.
09:30She says he saw the victim with the other resident, who was brought to headquarters, near a picnic table at
09:35the back of the hotel.
09:37How do you know her?
09:39I don't remember last night.
09:42So back at 10 p.m. last night.
09:44What happened?
09:46I went back inside.
09:48And, uh, go to sleep.
09:50I woke up like 6.30.
09:52The record was getting right out.
09:54Mm-hmm.
09:54And, uh, I went outside and smoked a cigarette.
09:57And , which is the only one at the picnic table now.
10:02I said, we're just getting waiting on me.
10:04She said, I don't know if she left.
10:06And, uh, she said she won't be some blankets or something.
10:09She never came back.
10:10I was like, okay, well, um, she said that she was worried about her.
10:16Because some white dude was harassing her.
10:20And I said, one thing about Kelly, you know, she's been on here.
10:23She knows how to handle herself, you know.
10:25She's like, well, this guy is really...
10:27He was scaring me.
10:30So...
10:30And then that's all of that was this.
10:33So I'm fixed up.
10:34He said that there was a black male.
10:37Mm-hmm.
10:39Arraising Kelly.
10:41Did she tell you who it was?
10:55No.
10:56She didn't know the names.
10:59Did she tell you what the black male looked like?
11:02No.
11:03Did she tell you that she had ever seen him before?
11:07No, she never said that either.
11:11I'm gonna give you my number.
11:12That way you can text me.
11:14Okay.
11:16I'm gonna give you my number.
11:21I'm gonna give you my number.
11:22I'm gonna give you my number.
11:26She mentioned to us that she was with Kelly last night.
11:33How are you?
11:35The team turns to the woman who said her friend went missing last night.
11:40What did you get down?
11:41Uh, it'd be two weeks Monday.
11:44Okay.
11:46And how did you meet Kelly?
11:47I met her yesterday.
11:50I went to go sit down by her camp.
11:52Because I just got done walking.
11:55Where's her camp?
11:57It's kinda like where the site is.
11:59But a little bit further down.
12:01She says Kelly was staying in a tent near the hotel parking lot where she was found.
12:06What time yesterday did you meet her?
12:09Probably about one.
12:10In the afternoon?
12:11Mm-hmm.
12:13We start walking around.
12:14We're talking about our kids.
12:15We have kids around the same age.
12:17Um, and she just seemed like, you know, a sweet person.
12:22Like, she had a good heart.
12:24And she's like, I'm gonna take you in.
12:26You stick with me.
12:28You know, this girl's gonna have to get together because there's a bunch of weirds I heard.
12:32So, we went to Circle K.
12:34What time do you go to Circle K?
12:35I'm not sure.
12:37It was nighttime.
12:38And she's like, that guy over there, search home with me.
12:42She says she pointed to a man standing outside the convenience store.
12:46You know, like, last week, he pulled me by my hair.
12:48It hit me in.
12:50Is there any altercation in Circle K?
12:52No.
12:54What does this guy look like?
12:57He's black, big eyes, bald.
13:00He had a dark black jacket on.
13:03I don't know if it was blue jeans or black jeans.
13:04He had two shoes on.
13:06And he was like, some tough guy.
13:09Like, he'd just run his mouth to people.
13:12And then we walked back to the hotel where it's an outside chit-chat.
13:16Where you chit-chat now?
13:17We're sitting at the picnic table at the hotel.
13:20And we're talking about our older kids and how it would be neat.
13:23Like, we got all the situation that we're in, that our kids would meet.
13:27She decided, I'm going to get some blankets.
13:30Do you have anything to do with time this is?
13:31It's around 11, 11.30.
13:34It's just the two of y'all?
13:35Yeah.
13:37And she's like, I'll be back in about two minutes.
13:39Ten minutes went by.
13:40Nothing.
13:41I'm starting to worry.
13:44And he just happened to come by and he's safe.
13:47Me being?
13:49Yeah.
13:51And he said something to me and it didn't make sense.
13:54And then he just kind of burned it at me.
13:57So I got up.
13:58And I'm scared of ****.
14:00And I keep remembering, well, Kelly keeps telling me that he's a hitter.
14:03What's he going to do to me?
14:06And I was running full speed because at that time my adrenaline was rushing.
14:10I went across the street where there's fighting.
14:12And then I knew those people in case something happened.
14:15See, just the way his demeanor was, it just scared me.
14:19And then I heard him yelling, he was yelling at her.
14:21She says when she was across the street, she heard the man yelling at someone near the hotel.
14:27He was yelling, I'm going to kill you, I'm going to kill you.
14:30Where does he go?
14:32I don't know. I didn't see where he went off to.
14:35This bald-headed blackmail, I've seen him at all today.
14:37No.
14:39I felt like something bad happened.
14:41She had not been back. She had not been back all night.
14:44And I told him, I said, I wish I would've been to go sit for her, to live for her.
14:48Because if I would've lived for her, maybe she would be around.
14:53She's dead.
14:55I'm sick, he's dead.
15:12Who's so cold?
15:15I'm gonna help anybody if they f***ing eat it.
15:23three hours in they responded to an incident where a crazy guy did a fire extinguisher
15:30corporal rob van tyne finds a police report about a recent disturbance at the hotel
15:34near the crime scene so there's a call at some point last night involving somebody
15:39out there spraying people with a fire extinguisher
15:44it's room 315 robert gardner a hotel resident identified 42 year old robert antonio gardner
15:53as the alleged offender with the fire extinguisher but he was a croc match the description of our
16:00suspect gardner was born and raised in charleston he has previous misdemeanor convictions for drug
16:07possession and shoplifting then detectives get another lead female let us know that hey i have
16:15information about what happened last night while canvassing for surveillance video another resident
16:21of the hotel approached corporal tim holly with possible information about the murder there's
16:27somebody go interview her hopefully she can tell us who did it
16:36okay i appreciate you coming in on the side of holly did you see kelly yesterday
16:43oh i never saw her at all she says she was at the convenience store last night
17:03the dude wrong that's all i know he was like are you going to get a ride i said yeah
17:08he's going
17:09to get a ride i was like no i got too much stuff in my car he had gotten in
17:13trouble at the store
17:14for stealing okay he got in trouble at the store so that's why you wanted to get a ride to
17:17get out
17:18okay so um i guess i waited until i was sitting in my car because we were working for an
17:25argument
17:25okay and um so i was sitting there good maybe 30 minutes and just rob walked up to the car
17:34like
17:34i mean he was just pouring sweat i've never seen nobody that way in my life
17:39okay when he came to the car he said you know that bitch
17:45she says robert brought up the name of another woman
17:47she says robert brought up the name of another woman
17:51you know i got that bitch good
18:06i got that bear that's what he said yeah
18:34she claims she doesn't know the other woman robert was talking about
18:38how long have you known rob maybe eight months
18:44can you describe him to me what does he look like
18:52all right do you remember what he was wearing yesterday
18:57he was a dark new shirt but he had a jacket on
19:03the greatest black looking color all right um we want to show you one thing and then we'll get
19:10you out of here
19:17so the witnesses talked about rob being upset with another female but i believe he was referring to
19:24kelly this being the individual that he got he said i got that a lot of times with a lot
19:30of these young
19:30ladies they'll give us a little bit of information but they won't always give us everything
19:35um just because they don't want to be labeled a rat or they don't want to get beat up or
19:39anything like
19:39that so we can't push them too hard then they'll just shut down and then they'll walk out so
19:44sometimes we have to kind of be careful
19:49we want him in a lineup for robert gardner we'll get a person who doesn't know anything about the case
19:54to create a lineup for us you know she identifies him as being the one who said i just got
20:00that
20:07bitch
20:08hey how's it going i'm going to end up showing you one picture at a time yeah okay
20:20okay okay and what is his name rob awesome all right give him a second
20:32witness interviews definitely did help but none of the witnesses we have so far saw the murder
20:37well he'll be on video footage with kelly at the circle that would be good
20:50an hour later somebody's got a video
20:57that's the victim and the witness we see her show up at 11 25.
21:08oh she's friends with all the clerks
21:1211 29 there he is that's him
21:19yeah she gets out of there immediately she sees him
21:26just walk out
21:44he's just raging
21:46he's just raging pacing back and forth
21:5012.06
21:53her car's pulling up just like she said
22:00she does talk to her everything is matching up i think we just got another to get arrest warrants
22:08the witness placed the suspect in the same area where the body and the the victim's camp is out
22:13with him yelling out i'm going to kill you another witness identified him as being the guy who said i
22:19just
22:19got that
22:19i just got that
22:20so her statement combined with that statement combined with the video that we got we can piece
22:24it all together to say that the person who said i just got that is the same person who ran
22:28into
22:28the wood line saying i'm going to kill you
22:31whose case is this cam's with all signs pointing to robert gardner as their suspect
22:36the case is assigned to rookie detective cam miller as lead i feel really good about solving
22:42cam's case for
22:43i think we have enough right now just trying to put all the pieces together because we have
22:49so many hands in it so we're trying to put everything that we have together but right now
22:54i'm going to try to type in warrants and then hopefully we're going to try to get out and locate
22:59this dude
23:10i'm right around the tanger area and see if i can see him the team searches the area around the
23:17crime scene for robert gardner we'll probably try to get this dude by the end of the night
23:23uh just because of how brutal it was and he seems to be targeting multiple women so
23:33longer this dude's out the higher the chance he does it to somebody else we don't need that
23:42two hours into the search
23:45oh yes i am sorry your office is back
23:48uh
23:51two six eights interrupt you
23:58yep he's wearing the exact same
24:03how you doing see each other your name
24:16you
24:17yeah it's him
24:18north ralston police stand up face wall
24:27just a new investigation that's all i can say detectives want to talk to you
24:43so i went down brought him up we're walking i looked down on his shoes and he has what appears
24:48to be
24:49blood on his shoes
24:55hopefully we can talk
25:00what's up man i'm lieutenant miller
25:04you ever been in trouble before yeah okay where are you from charleston charleston
25:12what's the highest level of education you completed six six or eight
25:27what were you before that i was nowhere
25:37all right so there was an incident with a female that happened probably between midnight and
25:42probably like six o'clock this morning
25:50can you walk me through what happened with you yesterday
26:05i know you're tired i can tell you tired so can you tell me where you were yesterday
26:12mr gardner
26:25he's just trying to get in cam's head mind game type of thing
26:30Oh, for sure.
26:40I'm doing something wrong.
26:43You're letting him get to you.
26:45He's a very smart criminal.
26:48You just go in there and be straight up honest with him.
26:51Like, you're in here right now because you're a person of interest.
26:54We have witnesses who are saying you murdered the girl.
27:01You just took all your clothes because you're a person of interest.
27:04We got a bunch of video from the area.
27:07You know, he's the one who's got to explain himself.
27:09He's the one who's got to try and justify what he did.
27:16Hey, Robert.
27:18You know who that is?
27:21She look familiar.
27:24She else beat to death.
27:29She look familiar?
27:31No?
27:34You were the last person in that area with that female.
27:38That's a lie because I ain't been with that lady.
27:40It's not a lie.
27:41It's on video.
27:43I have video surveillance from Circle K.
27:46You were there last night.
27:48I was not with that lady.
27:51You were at Circle K.
27:53I've been at Circle K, but I haven't been with those people.
27:55After you left Circle K, you walked back towards the extended state, right?
28:01I went through the extended state.
28:03Did you see anybody as you were walking to the extended state?
28:08That was a girl by quality and extended sleeping on a bench.
28:14Well, where's that bench at?
28:16Right by Zaxby's.
28:17He says the woman he saw was near a neighboring hotel, 100 feet from where Kelly was found.
28:24Did you see that female?
28:27No, she was covered up.
28:29She had like a white blanket on her.
28:32She was by herself?
28:33Mm-hmm.
28:35Okay.
28:36Who else did you see there?
28:38I was talking to somebody over the fence.
28:41She got smart.
28:42I asked her if she had an extra pipe.
28:44Mine's broke.
28:45Okay.
28:45What did she say to you?
28:47She was like, get the hell out of something.
28:49And then that's when I kept walking through the parking lot.
28:52Okay.
28:52So when you walked through the parking lot, where did you go to?
28:56When y'all picked me up and I slept up there last night.
28:59But you've never seen this female before?
29:03I see her around.
29:18Do you recall seeing her last night?
29:35I don't think that's true because she wasn't what I do with Dre.
29:39Yeah, what's blood on your shoes?
29:42Whose blood is on your shoes then?
29:46Yours.
29:47Yours?
29:47What happened?
29:49I cut my foot.
29:50When did you cut your foot?
29:53Antonio.
29:56All right.
29:56What problem you got with her?
29:58Man, I don't even hang with this dude.
30:01You ain't got to hang with her to have a problem with her.
30:04You have an issue with something else could have happened.
30:07The reason why I'm asking, man, because you're facing a murder charge.
30:11I don't want you to be viewed as a woman beater or nothing like that.
30:13So that's why I'm trying to get to the side of the story and trying to figure out what happened.
30:21What's crazy?
30:34I can't hear you, bro.
30:37Antonio, man, come on.
30:38Talk to me.
30:40You said no?
30:43All right.
30:49He's shutting down, like.
30:51He said, I don't know her.
30:53Never seen her.
30:54Yeah.
30:54And then he says, well, I've seen her now.
30:57Y'all trying to say I was with her last night?
30:58I wasn't with her last night.
31:00He puts himself there.
31:03It can be frustrating.
31:05He didn't confess to what he did.
31:08The blood from Rob Shoes will be sent to SLED for further testing.
31:13Our witnesses, we don't know how reliable they'll be.
31:16Yeah, they came in and talked today.
31:18But a lot of times it's going to be very hard to try and get them in a court of
31:20law to testify.
31:22The chances of that, I'm going to say with this case, are pretty slim.
31:27I think with the DNA evidence, that's crucial.
31:30But there are several avenues we can take to help sure up this case for trial.
31:35It's not closed until it goes to court and we have a conviction.
31:38So we'll continue to do our investigation.
31:42Hello?
31:47Hello, is this Ms. Devin Craig?
31:52Hey, this is Detective Hollywood, North Charleston Police Department.
31:56Hey.
31:56Hey, so I'm just calling you to let you know that we just made an arrest in your mom's murder.
32:04You did?
32:06Yes, ma'am.
32:08Who killed her?
32:11Uh, subject by the name of Robert Gargan.
32:15I'm sorry you're having to go through all this.
32:18Detective Miller is going to be the case agent on this.
32:21But I will have him reach out at some point and make contact with you.
32:25Do you have any questions for me as a right to second?
32:28No.
32:30Again, I give you my condolences.
32:36Yeah, I hate doing those, man.
32:4424 hours in.
32:47It's just my worst nightmare.
32:51It's just the worst thing that could happen.
32:55Devin and her boyfriend come into homicide to speak with detectives.
33:02Um, do you have any other siblings or anything you do?
33:07I have a full sibling.
33:08She's ten and a half months younger than me.
33:10I have two half-siblings from my mom's second marriage, and they're 16 and 13.
33:18The younger two have lived with me since August of last year.
33:24Can you remember the last time you talked to your mom?
33:27Thursday.
33:29Oh, seven days ago.
33:32The last time you talked to her, everything seemed normal.
33:35Yeah, she wanted me to come and see her.
33:39Um, she said that she missed me.
33:42She said, do you promise you'll come and see me?
33:44And I said, yes, I promise I'll come and see you.
33:47And I wasn't able to go see her.
33:53She never mentioned any trouble with anyone.
33:56She told me that she gets raped and beaten out there all the time, and that I don't know
34:04what it's like to live out on the streets, and she wanted to live with me.
34:08And I told her that I had her kids, and I couldn't, I couldn't let her live with me,
34:14because she's lived with me before, and she stole from me.
34:20Mm-hmm.
34:22How was your relationship like?
34:25I loved her, and she loved me, and she loved all of her kids.
34:32And I loved being around her.
34:38She was just crippled by her addiction.
34:42She started doing drugs when I was, like, ten.
34:46I know she didn't want to do drugs.
34:49I know that's not the life she wanted.
34:56One question that you have for me.
34:58Why was she murdered?
35:01That I don't know.
35:03There was an arrest that was made.
35:06Well, I found him so quick, and some people don't ever get justice.
35:11I'm just grateful for that.
35:18I know our agent's advocate can assist you.
35:21Would you like to speak to her?
35:23Yeah.
35:29Hi.
35:32Our job is to try to help you get through each phase of the process.
35:45We're going to continue to aggressively work the case,
35:47looking for video and other possible witnesses.
35:52I think a lot of people can relate to her mom's story.
35:56A lot of people will just look at, like, she's just a homeless person that's around here.
36:00She's a dirty person, and she's not.
36:04She had this whole life and got addicted to stupid s*** that she just couldn't get off of.
36:10I've been on the side of that, the family members that have the addictions and stuff like that,
36:15and you want to be angry with them and tell them to get their s*** together,
36:18and sometimes they just can't.
36:21The victim's daughter, she's going to think about, like,
36:24had she just sucked it up and had her mom living with her and stealing from her,
36:28then maybe she would still be here.
36:30She doesn't have to take care of everybody else right now.
36:32Now she needs to make sure she takes care of herself
36:34and let other people take care of her when she needs it.
36:45Still lacking any direct evidence that Robert Gardner killed Kelly.
36:50This is video of the wood line where the victim was found.
36:54The team gets video from another hotel facing the crime scene.
36:58This view is right here, now towards where the body is.
37:01Right on the other side of the bus.
37:07So that's the victim right there.
37:10Looks like she has a blanket over her shoulder.
37:17She walks pretty fast.
37:27That's going to be the suspect behind her.
37:41We know just based off clothing descriptions,
37:45he was wearing a puffer jacket.
37:48Our victim is being followed by the suspect.
37:52It's her.
37:55That's him.
37:57138, they disappear in this area where the bus is.
38:04143, he pops out from the wood line.
38:09She was killed at 138, 139.
38:12He does go back to the hotel for killing her.
38:15I believe the video is great evidence for court.
38:20It's just frustrating not knowing exactly why this happened.
38:23But right now, I don't have a motive for why Rob did this to Kelly.
38:28She probably was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
38:31I don't think we'll ever know the exact reason of why someone would do something like this
38:37to someone who appears to be completely innocent and just be brutally beaten for no reason.
38:44With all the evidence and the witness statements that we have,
38:47I feel like we bring justice for Kelly.
38:49Dole.
39:05Dole.
39:06Dole.
39:16Dole.
39:24One time for science class, she made slime and she came into the classroom dressed like
39:33a mad scientist.
39:34She had like wire hangers in her hair, braided it up into crazy little things and then different
39:41colored socks and like a mad scientist trench coat and was like, hey kids, we're going to
39:47make slime today.
39:49And like everybody's like, man, your mom's so cool.
39:55When I was one years old, this was my birthday party and my mom was helping me open all my
39:59birthday presents and that's me.
40:04This was hers.
40:06She was a witch one year and I put it on.
40:09I always wore her like shoes and hats and sunglasses and she would catch me in her high heels sometimes
40:17and she'd be like, better get those high heels up.
40:22I miss the way she laughed.
40:24Funniest woman on you.
40:27I miss her like before she got like back into drugs.
40:32I miss her like being happy.
40:34I miss the moments before that when she was trying to be a mom.
40:39She was very loving and caring.
40:42It does suck that she wasn't in our lives like as much.
40:48I really do miss my mom and like the woman that she could have been.
40:54I was hoping that she would get better eventually and that we would get to see her and stuff and
41:00that she would like be more of a mother figure for us.
41:05I don't have a lot of like early memories of her before she started doing drugs and stuff.
41:11When she was in jail, she used to draw us pictures and put them in letters and then mail them
41:16to us.
41:17Like Philip got like a little Iron Man.
41:21You got a flower.
41:22I feel like I did.
41:24A big sunflower maybe?
41:25Yeah.
41:36This is my mom's urn and I put a beautiful plaque on it that says I love you to the
41:43moon of that because that's something she would always say.
41:46And she kept pictures of us to try and remind herself to do right.
41:52Mom seemed so happy with all of us kids around her.
41:56That's when she was the happiest.
42:00Whatever had a hold of her, she wasn't strong enough to fight it.
42:06But, you know, I never got that opportunity to see if my mom would actually stop with the things that
42:15she was doing.
42:17And because he took her life, I'll never know.
42:21But I like to hope she would have.
42:26I love you, Mom.
