00:01This program documents actual homicide investigations.
00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:24911, please, paramedical.
00:26Believe in medical, someone just got shot like five times.
00:31Do you see the person who got shot?
00:32They're laying on the floor.
00:34There's so many people out here.
00:37Not one.
00:37There's a man shot.
00:39He's still breathing.
00:40And he got on light pulse.
00:42Did you see who shot them?
00:43I just heard it.
00:45Dude is bleeding out right here.
00:46Y'all need to hurry up.
00:47They need to come back.
00:51Oh, hell.
00:52Shot five or six times.
00:53Yeah, get everybody.
00:54Okay, let's roll.
00:55No, no, no.
01:00When police and EMS arrive.
01:02Get back up.
01:03Get back up.
01:04They find the gun shotgun victim.
01:06Dead.
01:08Don't go down.
01:08I need people so this way as possible.
01:11Get to that window.
01:13You're okay.
01:21For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half
01:26if they don't get a lead within the first 48 hours.
01:45Detective Mark Kennedy will lead the investigation, 21-year-old Isaac Walker was a senior at Langston
02:08University. He was a linebacker on the college football team, and spent his free time fixing
02:15motorbikes. An only child, Isaac leaves behind his mother and a large extended family.
02:31Man, he hit him at close range. Isaac was shot seven times.
02:38Really? Well, he looked like 223, or?
02:42Yeah.
02:44CSI collects seven .223 rifle casings.
02:48His cell phone's over there.
02:55And he pulled up into 30 people.
02:57Had everybody that supposedly saw anything do with it, they'd take it downtown.
03:03Patrol transported several witnesses to homicide for questioning.
03:08I spoke with a friend of the victim. The victim had been living with him for the past couple
03:12days, but he himself was not at the apartment complex when the victim was shot. He was at
03:17the store.
03:18Right.
03:21We've worked a few murders at this complex before.
03:25They're in the camera in here.
03:27The complex doesn't have any surveillance video.
03:31This is mine, right here. He's speaking to me.
03:34Okay.
03:35Ms. Walker, I'm Detective Kennedy. I'm going to be the one that's got this case.
03:39Reggie's my backer.
03:41Sorry for your loss.
03:44We're going to take you down, and we just want to get all the information we can from you.
03:48Yeah.
03:48All right?
03:55One hour in, the team gets a lead.
03:58She said, as soon as they ran in that corner, they pulled up a big gun.
04:02A witness saw two men wearing baseball hats, heading toward the crime scene with a rifle.
04:08Those two baseball cats primed by their car. You guys had them all.
04:12When the two men fled, they dropped their hats.
04:16So the hats are going to belong to our suspects?
04:18Yeah.
04:24It says, let's have them on the other side.
04:26All right.
04:31It says, loyalty is royalty.
04:35That'll stand out.
04:36If we're lucky, we got DNA on the hats.
04:40Right now, we're in the very infant stages of this, and I don't know where it's going to
04:44lead us.
04:51All right, Reg, you ready to start interviewing?
04:53We want to knock everybody out and do mom laughs?
04:55Yes.
05:01Hey, my name is Reggie.
05:03I'm a homicide detective.
05:05My name is Detective Kennedy, okay?
05:08Mm-hmm.
05:09Kennedy and Detective Reggie Warren split up to interview the witnesses.
05:41I'm the one that's going to be working this case and trying to figure out who did this
05:42and they were headed toward the apartment where Isaac was shot.
05:46Then I looked back, he hit the duck, and put the gun out.
05:50I was running four speed, and then we were like, wha, wha, wha.
05:55Both of them had masks on.
05:58Did they have baseball caps on?
06:00I don't really know if they both had caps on or if she wanted to make caps on them.
06:04I don't know.
06:05I know this isn't everything you do every day, man, but I get it, but just remember as much
06:10as you can.
06:11Yes.
06:12Which one had the gun?
06:13I think both of them had them.
06:15Was it like a pistol or was it like a rifle?
06:18It was a big gun.
06:19It was a clip.
06:21Gotcha.
06:22Is that all you know?
06:23Mm-hmm.
06:25All right.
06:27Down the hall...
06:28Do you heard the shots you just took off?
06:30You didn't see anybody walk off or anything?
06:31No.
06:32Warren wraps up with another witness.
06:35Okay.
06:36Then I'll get you.
06:37All right.
06:39But he doesn't get any new leads.
06:47None of the witnesses I spoke with actually saw the shooting.
06:50They did see the suspects as they approached the scene.
06:53Others saw the suspects that they were running away from the scene after the shooting.
06:57They were masked up and everybody said they came from the north and they ran back to the
07:00north.
07:01Here's the thing about it.
07:03Whoever went there to shoot him knew exactly where he would be.
07:08We'll get to mama here in a minute.
07:11Kennedy and Warren head in to speak with Isaac's mother.
07:17Is you all right?
07:18No.
07:19I know you're not, but it's kind of a stupid question, but I just want to make sure you
07:24can talk.
07:25Yeah.
07:25I'm really sorry you're going through this.
07:28How many times he got hurt?
07:30It looks like he was hit multiple times.
07:33He just couldn't make it in the house on time.
07:35No, he couldn't.
07:36I know my child is gone, man.
07:39He is.
07:40I'm sorry for that.
07:41He's gone multiple times.
07:47I know you're hurting.
07:49We just want to get as much information as we can.
07:56You're the closest to Isaac, and you knew what was going on in his life more than anybody.
08:01Yes, I did.
08:02So that's kind of what we want to get at.
08:04Any beast that Isaac had with anybody, I want to know anybody.
08:09He got invited to my name, Javion Washington.
08:14She says, a month ago, Isaac got into a fight with a friend named Javion Washington.
08:21What happened during the fight?
08:22Well, my son had shanked him.
08:25She says, during the fight, Isaac stabbed Javion with a knife.
08:30So why did it happen?
08:30There was something dumb.
08:32Patty.
08:33Patty's stuck.
08:34He used to stay with me and I was there one month.
08:37We was helping him because he had nowhere else to go.
08:39I ain't seen him in a minute since he left.
08:42She says Javion left town after the fight with Isaac.
08:46Where's he from?
08:48He's from Arkansas.
08:49And so since that shanking, has Javion made any threats towards your son?
08:55He has, yes.
08:57So that one night, he made a breath, said he gonna come down here with some dudes, too.
09:02Who's they?
09:03The people in Arkansas.
09:04When was the last time that there was a threat sent that you know of to Isaac from Javion?
09:10In September.
09:12She says Javion made the threat a month ago.
09:16So it's been kind of quiet since then?
09:18Yes.
09:20So that's the only person you really know that he's really had a violent encounter with.
09:25And there's a lot of people beefing with Isaac.
09:27There's just a lot of beefing going on and I just wanted it all to stop.
09:31Did Isaac ever call you and say, man, I'm talking to somebody, they're giving me problems?
09:36He told me today.
09:38He got in two with some people out there in the sunset.
09:42She says Isaac called her this morning after arguing with some men at the same apartment complex.
09:48He said, I need me a piece today.
09:51And he asked her to get him a gun.
09:53He kept on saying, mama, y'all gonna have to plan for my funeral and all this.
10:11He said, f***ing him, got in two with some dudes out there in sunset.
10:17She says Isaac's friend, the man he was staying with at the complex, was there when Isaac got into a
10:22fight today.
10:23Did he say these guys come threatening to shoot him?
10:25Somebody was gonna come and shoot him.
10:32Hold on, let's back up.
10:33So he's telling you that these guys are threatening him to shoot him today?
10:38Yes.
10:40Okay, that's big.
10:41Yeah.
10:42You know, that's huge.
10:43Yes.
10:44Did he say who it was, who they were?
10:46He didn't tell me who it was.
10:48Did he say it was over?
10:50No, he didn't.
10:51He didn't tell me that.
10:52We need to figure out what that's about.
10:54Yes.
10:55And f***ing should know about that, correct?
10:56Yes.
10:57She says Isaac's friend should know who he had a beef with.
11:02Is there anything else I haven't asked?
11:04I don't know anything else.
11:10I can't even, I don't, I just, I just see my, I just, I just see my child is laying
11:15there, man.
11:16No, I understand.
11:17I'm sorry you have to go through this.
11:21All right, sorry for your loss.
11:33I just have a patrol officer over here.
11:35Okay.
11:36Warren sent patrol officers back to the apartment complex to look for Isaac's friend.
11:41Hopefully that he can come down and I'll shed some more light on what we need to know.
11:51An hour later, patrol finds Isaac's friend.
11:57We found some information that I wanted to ask you about.
12:01I know that Isaac had been at your house all day long.
12:05Yes.
12:06Had he been beefing with anybody while he was at your house that you know of?
12:11No.
12:13I'm going to be straight up with you.
12:15We talked to his mother.
12:16He told her that him and you got into it with a couple of guys in the complex and he
12:22needed a gun.
12:24It wasn't even that big of a deal.
12:27Who are these guys that you supposedly, he's saying you got into it with?
12:31I don't even know their names.
12:34They're just some guys that I know from around.
12:38You have to get more specific.
12:40How did you know them?
12:42Because I'm a street tattoo artist.
12:44I've tatted him back up back in the day.
12:46He just wanted to talk to me about getting some more tattoos.
12:51Okay.
12:52How did that get turned into the point to where Isaac's telling his mom that you guys got into it?
12:58I'm not sure.
13:01So did Isaac get into it with these guys?
13:04Isaac didn't get into it with anybody.
13:05Did he talk to them at all?
13:06He didn't talk to nobody.
13:08So nothing bad happened?
13:10Nothing bad happened.
13:11That would cause somebody to come back and shoot the place up?
13:13No.
13:16All right.
13:17So tell me what you do know about Isaac.
13:20Did he have any money?
13:21Was he selling dope?
13:22Was he doing anything like that?
13:24Isaac was trying to get a job.
13:25What kind of job is this?
13:27It's a resource line.
13:28All right.
13:29Has he been into it with anybody lately?
13:32He's been into it with one guy.
13:34I don't know his name.
13:36I just call him Jay.
13:39Has he said anything about this Jay person threatening him to hurt him or anything?
13:44Possibly good.
13:45I don't know.
13:46Okay.
13:48I wish I'd be more.
13:51All right, man.
13:51We'll get you out of here, okay?
13:56He doesn't have any reason to lie to us.
13:57Because that was his friend.
13:59And I think if he knew something, he would tell us the truth.
14:02He said that the victim was feuding with a guy named Jay.
14:05When I spoke with the victim's mom, she said that he had been beefing with a guy named Javion about
14:10a month earlier.
14:11Now, it's highly likely that Jay and Javion are the same person.
14:17Kennedy looks up Javion Washington in the database.
14:21So that's him.
14:23He's got no record here other than getting a ticket for fireworks with my victim.
14:29But three months ago, Javion and Isaac were stopped by police on the 4th of July.
14:34Hold on.
14:35Let me look at this.
14:39This is a body cam from officers on 4th of July.
14:45So there's my victim sitting right there.
14:48Have you ever talked to police court?
14:54Spell your first name.
14:55J-A-Y-B-E-O-E.
14:57Okay.
14:58This is a guy they say he's into it with.
15:01On the 4th of July, it's obvious these two are friends.
15:04You know, their buddies are together.
15:07But Javion is a person of interest.
15:11We're going to come back in in the morning and Reggie and I are going to start looking for some
15:16video around there.
15:17If we can catch the suspects with those hats on, we've got a starting point.
15:21We've got a long ways to go on this one.
15:23It's not going to be an easy ride.
15:32The next day.
15:33We're going to look for a video at the complex where this murder happened.
15:38Kennedy and Warren circle back to the crime scene to see if any neighbors have doorbell cameras that captured video
15:43of the suspects.
15:45Here's the thing.
15:46You're not going to walk very far with masks on.
15:48Carrying a freaking rifle.
15:50I agree.
15:53There's a camera right there.
15:55That's a good camera, dude.
15:57Let's get out and look at this one.
15:58Let's see if we knuckle them a door.
16:06Tulsa Police.
16:10Hey, how are you?
16:11Hey, I'm Detective Kennedy with Tulsa Police Homicide.
16:15I noticed you have a camera.
16:17Yeah, it doesn't work.
16:18It doesn't work at all?
16:20No.
16:21All right.
16:25Oh, no, that might be one there.
16:27Is it?
16:29No, I'm fine.
16:36Then.
16:38Crazy, I didn't see you out here.
16:39I was going to try to figure out your phone number.
16:42Two women come forward.
16:44So what do you know?
16:45You know something?
16:46I know what was said and it didn't happen.
17:00You want to come downtown?
17:02Follow us downtown.
17:02Follow us.
17:05It can only happen to Mark Kennedy.
17:08Well, this isn't nothing yet.
17:09I like that, though.
17:14At this time, I'll take anything.
17:16See, this is why you come out and do follow-ups, boys.
17:19Great.
17:27All right.
17:29So tell me about everything you know.
17:33Jay is from Little Rock Arkansas.
17:35Okay.
17:36Then one day, him and Jay got into a fight
17:38and Jay knocked out Isaac's tooth.
17:40Then Isaac seen him again and Isaac stabbed him in his back.
17:46He went to the hospital.
17:47And then after that, when he got released,
17:49he had somebody drop him back to Arkansas.
17:53She called us, like, two weeks before this all happened.
17:57She says two weeks ago,
17:59she got a call from Javion's girlfriend.
18:02She called us, letting us know
18:04that they're finna come down here and shoot him.
18:08Jay's coming up here to shoot Isaac.
18:11She said that.
18:12Her boyfriend's finna come down here
18:13and finna handle that
18:14for stabbing him in the back.
18:17And we tell her,
18:18we let Isaac's mama hear all this.
18:20She says they were with Isaac's mother at the time
18:23and put the call on speakerphone.
18:26So she called you a couple weeks ago
18:28and said that Jay's gonna come up here
18:30and take care and shoot...
18:31Isaac.
18:32Isaac.
18:33And his mama didn't tell y'all that?
18:34No, she didn't say anything about you all.
18:37She had a hard time last night.
18:38Because that's her only son.
18:39That was her only child.
18:41Did Jay ever get on the phone and say...
18:43He didn't say anything.
18:44Did she say if he was bringing anybody with him or...
18:47No.
18:48But I know he did.
18:50He's gonna have somebody else do his dead work.
18:52He's kinda smart.
18:54And last night when we found out Isaac was dead,
18:57we called her.
18:58They called Javion's girlfriend
19:00to ask about Isaac's murder.
19:02She was like,
19:03oh, where did this happen at?
19:05Girl, did I know who did it?
19:07I was like,
19:07did y'all do something to him?
19:08She was like,
19:09what do you mean?
19:10That's what I told her.
19:11I said,
19:11you are funny.
19:12And I hung up in her face.
19:14Who was staying with?
19:17She says Javion's girlfriend
19:18stays in the same apartment complex
19:21where Isaac's mother lives.
19:24Do you know if Jay knows
19:26that Isaac would hang out over at Sunset?
19:29Yep.
19:30He used to hang out there with him.
19:32Okay.
19:32So he knew exactly where to go.
19:33I used to be friends.
19:35Right.
19:35Yes.
19:36Before the chaos.
19:37Before the chaos.
19:38Oh, and it's really over, b****.
19:40She says the feud started
19:42because Isaac liked Javion's girlfriend.
19:45Okay.
19:46So it's over there.
19:47The girl more than there's anything else.
19:49Yeah, him stabbing him in the back.
19:51You know if Jay has a phone number.
19:54Yeah, he do got a phone number,
19:55and I don't know.
19:57Who would know it?
19:58But he has a baby mama
19:59that lives down here.
20:01She says the mother
20:02of Javion's children lives in Tulsa.
20:04All right, is there anything else
20:06we haven't asked you,
20:06information that you think
20:08we need to know about?
20:09Tulsa.
20:10I told you everything I knew.
20:13Well, young ladies,
20:14I appreciate you coming down
20:15and giving us that information.
20:22You have two new messages.
20:24I just want to know
20:25what's going on with me.
20:27I just want to let you know something
20:30about my son, please.
20:37Kennedy reaches out
20:38to Isaac's mother.
20:39Hello?
20:41Francine, Detective Kennedy.
20:42What can I do for you?
20:44I just want to know
20:45how y'all found out
20:46any information.
20:47So Jay is our biggest person
20:49of interest right now,
20:50but I can't call him
20:51a suspect yet.
20:52Well, the girl should be
20:54the one also.
20:55She has something to do with it.
20:57She says Javion's girlfriend
20:59also made threats
21:00toward Isaac.
21:01How come you didn't mention
21:02to me last night?
21:03I don't know.
21:04I was just going for it.
21:06I know.
21:07And I get that.
21:09And I apologize.
21:10I, you know,
21:12sometimes forget the grief
21:13you're going through.
21:14I apologize for that.
21:17So I've got that information today,
21:19and we're working on that,
21:21but I want some more intel
21:24and some more information
21:25before I go at her
21:26because I don't want
21:27to burn that bridge
21:28before I have some more ammo
21:30to go at her, okay?
21:32But I am aware of her,
21:34and I want to get some things
21:36in place first
21:36before I play my hand.
21:39All right.
21:40Well, God bless you.
21:41You take care, all right?
21:42All right.
21:43All right, bye.
21:46You know, sometimes
21:47we get so in-depth
21:49into these cases
21:50trying to solve them,
21:50we forget about
21:51the human aspect of this
21:52and forget how they're hurting.
21:55And I cannot imagine
21:57what she's going through.
21:58I can't imagine
21:59having my kid killed.
22:01So it's hard for us
22:03to relate to that,
22:04but we have to keep it in mind.
22:05And sometimes
22:06I get so wrapped up
22:07in trying to solve it
22:08that we forget about that.
22:10Right now,
22:11JVON's our number one target.
22:25I would say right now,
22:26JVON's our number one person
22:28I'm interested in.
22:29We've just got to build a case.
22:38The next morning,
22:40Kennedy looks to see
22:41if JVON filed a police report
22:43after he was stabbed by Isaac.
22:46I'm looking for a stabbing
22:48and I don't see any stabbings
22:49or even assaults
22:51that match up to mine.
22:52We can look at their body cam
22:53and see kind of if it's...
22:5523, yeah, look at that.
22:59Kennedy locates
23:00the responding officer's
23:01body cam footage.
23:03JVON, what was your last name?
23:05Washington.
23:06Oh, Washington.
23:07He didn't know his name.
23:08He said nothing to it.
23:09Come here.
23:11What's up?
23:12JVON, you want to press charges?
23:16He did tell the officers
23:17you don't want to press charges.
23:18That's probably why
23:18they didn't do a report.
23:19Probably, yeah.
23:21Isaac got his tooth
23:22knocked out by JVON
23:24and JVON got stabbed by Isaac.
23:27I mean, the escalation
23:28definitely increased
23:30over a short period of time.
23:34But right now,
23:35we don't have anything
23:35to show that JVON was involved
23:38in the murder.
23:39If he is involved,
23:41I need to get some proof video,
23:43phone records,
23:44things like that
23:45that'll put him at the scene.
23:57In the first 48,
23:59Tulsa Homicide responded
24:01to the murder of Isaac Walker
24:03gunned down
24:03outside his friend's apartment,
24:05interviewed witnesses
24:06who said they saw
24:08two masked men with rifles
24:09approaching the apartment
24:11and saw the same two men
24:13drop their hats
24:14as they fled the scene,
24:15discovered Isaac was feuding
24:16with a former friend
24:17named JVON Washington,
24:19but haven't found any evidence
24:21tying JVON to the murder.
24:28Nine days later...
24:29We're going to start
24:30kind of ruffling some feathers.
24:32We're going to go try to find
24:34baby mama of JVON Washington,
24:38and then we're going to go
24:39to the current girlfriend.
24:41Need to talk to them.
24:42Here we go.
24:44While Detective Max Ryden
24:46and Sergeant Jeremy Stiles
24:47look for the mother
24:48of JVON's child,
24:50Kennedy and Detective John Brown
24:52head out to an address
24:53for JVON's girlfriend.
24:56Right here.
25:09Hey, how's it going, man?
25:11A family member of the girlfriend
25:12answers the door.
25:14What's up, I hear?
25:16Where's your boyfriend at?
25:18You jerk?
25:19Yeah.
25:19That's my technique.
25:20You're supposed to go
25:21back to Arkansas.
25:23How long ago was that?
25:25Well, because Isaac got killed.
25:27So you know Isaac?
25:29Yeah.
25:29He's got to go here.
25:31This guy's the person
25:32of interest in this.
25:33Was he back here that day
25:35that that happened?
25:36Well, he came.
25:37I heard the day that it happened.
25:41It was him with somebody else.
25:43He says JVON showed up
25:45at his house
25:45the day of the murder
25:46with another man
25:48he'd never seen.
25:49The other guy
25:50go by anything or?
25:51I don't know.
25:52I ain't ever seen him.
25:53He says he never got
25:54the other man's name.
25:56They have caps on
25:57or anything?
25:58Yeah.
25:59Kennedy shows him
26:00photos of the hats
26:01from the crime scene.
26:04Yeah.
26:05Who's wearing that?
26:06L'Oise, L'Oise.
26:07I think I don't know
26:08that was with him.
26:10Has she been staying here
26:12since he left?
26:13He says the girlfriend
26:14may be staying
26:15with another family member.
26:17Hey, appreciate you, man.
26:18Thanks for being
26:19straight up with me.
26:26JVON was here
26:27the day that Isaac died.
26:30He said they showed up
26:31his place around three-ish,
26:33so I think we need
26:33to pull video from like
26:34noon to like four or five
26:35in here.
26:36The team will work
26:37on getting video
26:38from the apartment complex.
26:40So, that's good stuff
26:42right there.
26:42We need to follow up
26:43on that.
26:45Detectives head
26:45to the other address
26:46where the girlfriend
26:47may be staying.
26:49That's it right there.
27:01Toss, please.
27:04Hey, how are you?
27:05Hello.
27:06Good.
27:06I'm Detective Kennedy.
27:08Detective Brown
27:09with Tulsa Police.
27:10Can we talk to you
27:11for a minute?
27:11Yeah, sure.
27:12He's here.
27:14Mm-mm.
27:15You know where she's at?
27:16I think she went to Arkansas.
27:18She went to Arkansas
27:19with who?
27:20Her boyfriend.
27:22She says JVON,
27:23his girlfriend,
27:24and another man
27:25she didn't know,
27:26stayed at her house
27:27the night of the murder,
27:28then left for Arkansas
27:30the next day.
27:31You know what kind
27:32of car he's driving?
27:33It was a white car
27:34with a pig tag on him.
27:44Well,
27:45that was pretty informational.
27:48We're heading back to the office.
27:50Detective Ryden
27:51calls in with an update.
27:53The mother of JVON's child
27:55wasn't home.
27:57All right,
27:58we'll see you downtown.
28:00We got good information
28:02about the time left
28:03of them being here
28:04and when they left.
28:06He thinks white car
28:07with four doors,
28:08not real big,
28:11and it had a paper tag on it.
28:21One week later.
28:23So,
28:23do we have a phone number?
28:25Really?
28:25Yeah.
28:26The team finally tracked down
28:28the mother of JVON's child
28:30and got his phone number.
28:31So,
28:32I'm going to do a war on it.
28:33We're going to get phone records
28:35from JVON.
28:36Hopefully that phone
28:37will track
28:38to the area
28:39of the crime scene
28:40at the time
28:41of the shooting.
28:4825 days
28:49after Isaac's murder.
28:51Let's see.
28:54JVON's phone records
28:55are in.
28:58Oh, my God.
29:01What do you got in there?
29:02My murder went out
29:03at 1741
29:04and there is
29:05where his phone's at.
29:07I got him
29:07within a few meters
29:09from where it happened.
29:23I've got his phone
29:25at the time
29:25of the murder
29:26right there.
29:28We need to get
29:29a warrant for him.
29:30He's going to get
29:31a DNA swab.
29:37My name is
29:38Detective Mark Kennedy
29:38with the Tulsa Police
29:39Homicide Unit?
29:40Yes, sir.
29:41Kennedy reaches out
29:42to homicide detectives
29:44in Little Rock, Arkansas.
29:45I'm going to need
29:46to get a DNA swab
29:47from him
29:48because they left a hat
29:49when they took off
29:50running
29:50and they came
29:50off their heads.
29:51Yes, sir.
29:52Little Rock PD
29:53will start searching
29:54for JVON.
29:55Okay, thank you.
29:56Appreciate it.
29:57All right.
29:58All right.
29:58You take care.
30:00So, I've got a DNA warrant
30:02being served
30:03in Arkansas
30:03at some point
30:04when they find him.
30:05So, when they do that,
30:06I'm going to go down
30:06to Arkansas
30:07and talk to him
30:08and see if I can
30:08lock him
30:09into a store.
30:16One week later...
30:17So, I got with
30:19Little Rock, Arkansas
30:20Detective Stephen Henry
30:22to get
30:23JVON's
30:24DNA.
30:26Detectives in
30:26Little Rock
30:27track down JVON
30:28at a relative's house
30:29and serves a warrant
30:30for his DNA.
30:32Now that we have
30:32his DNA,
30:33we want to get a rush
30:34now with our lab
30:35to compare it
30:37to that.
30:37Yeah, to be straight on.
30:38So, we're going to
30:39collect the DNA
30:40from Detective Henry
30:41and we're going to see
30:42if we can make contact
30:43with JVON Washington
30:45and see if he wants
30:46to talk to us.
30:51Four hours away
30:52in Little Rock, Arkansas.
30:54Hey, Stephen,
30:55Mark Kennedy.
30:56Nice to meet you.
30:56John Brown.
30:57Nice to meet you.
30:59Is that the DNA
31:00right there?
31:00Yes.
31:01Buckle swabs?
31:02Buckle swabs.
31:03Nice.
31:04We said that night
31:04he was up here with us.
31:05Shaking like a breeze.
31:10So, we have an idea
31:11where he could be?
31:12Yes.
31:13Possibly.
31:14Okay.
31:15Henry believes
31:16JVON may be staying
31:17with the relative
31:18who brought him in
31:19for the DNA swab.
31:20So, we're going to go
31:21try to find him
31:22and talk to him.
31:23Sound like a plane,
31:24sugar, please?
31:26We are following
31:27these detectives
31:27just trying to make
31:28contact with JVON Washington.
31:31They were driving
31:32a little white four-door
31:33with a paper tag in it.
31:35I definitely want to
31:36see if it's here.
31:44I'm going to hit
31:45a jackpot right here.
31:46Interesting.
31:47So, this might be the car.
31:51Who's it registered to?
31:53Order information shows
31:54it's registered to
31:54quality cash cards.
31:56Well, we can call them.
31:57We're going to make it.
31:59Takes a picture of his car.
32:03You can go out there and check.
32:14No one answers.
32:19So, we'll go out to the office.
32:20Maybe they can tell us a little bit.
32:23Okay.
32:23Detectives turn
32:24to the apartment manager.
32:25How are you?
32:27This is the guy
32:28I'm looking for.
32:30Yes.
32:31She says she's seen JVON
32:33within the last week.
32:34Okay.
32:36Then...
32:37Hey.
32:39JVON's relative reaches out.
32:41She got an alert
32:41from her doorbell cam
32:42and recognized
32:44Detective Henry
32:44who had collected
32:45JVON's DNA.
32:47Okay.
32:47So, is he home?
32:48No, he's not home.
32:50Where's he at?
32:51I think he's...
32:51He's with my dad
32:52in Hot Springs.
32:55I'll introduce myself.
32:57My name is Detective Mark Kennedy
32:58with Tulsa Police, okay?
33:00Yes, sir.
33:01So, let me ask you this.
33:03How long have you guys
33:04had the white Camry?
33:05Maybe right at a month.
33:06Okay.
33:07Who drives that?
33:08I drive it sometimes.
33:10JVON drives it.
33:11Okay.
33:12Well, I need to talk to JVON
33:15about a case I'm working
33:16back in Tulsa.
33:18We gave his DNA
33:20or whatever.
33:20Right.
33:21We don't know
33:22what's going on.
33:23I need to talk to him.
33:25I wanted to get JVON's
33:27side of the story
33:27and see if he was even
33:29in Tulsa
33:29the day that this
33:30case I'm working
33:32occurred.
33:33We don't even know
33:34what day
33:35anything about anything.
33:37Well, I mean,
33:38his name's been brought up.
33:40Well, I really am not
33:41going to get into that
33:42a whole lot
33:42until we talk.
33:44I just want to have
33:44a discussion, okay?
33:48I'm going to see
33:49what I can do.
33:52All right.
33:53Well, we know
33:54the car's there.
33:55We'll see if she calls back.
33:58I really appreciate
33:59all you guys' help.
34:03Two days later,
34:05still with no word
34:06from JVON,
34:07his girlfriend shows up
34:10after hearing detectives
34:12were looking for her.
34:14All right.
34:15My name's Detective Kennedy
34:16with Tulsa Police.
34:18I'm a homicide detective.
34:19This is Detective
34:20Reggie Warren.
34:21I kind of got a feeling
34:22you probably know
34:23what we're here about.
34:24Yes.
34:25What do you think
34:25we're here about?
34:26About a death
34:27that occurred,
34:27I think, last month.
34:29I think his name is Isaac.
34:31I've seen him
34:32a couple times.
34:33Did you know
34:33he got murdered?
34:36Not until
34:37my auntie called me
34:38and told me.
34:40Where were you at
34:41whenever she called you?
34:42I was in Arkansas.
34:44We're at Arkansas.
34:45I was with my friend.
34:46Who's your friend?
34:47Jay.
34:49Okay, so
34:50you know Isaac.
34:52I didn't really know him.
34:52I've seen him
34:53a couple times.
34:54Everybody knows
34:55you all know each other.
34:56You.
34:56Hold on.
34:57Just let me finish
34:58before you start
34:58interrupting me
34:59because I want to tell you
35:00what I found out,
35:02okay,
35:02without even talking
35:03to you.
35:04You and Isaac
35:06and Jay
35:07and everybody
35:07was cool.
35:08At some point
35:09did Isaac and Jay
35:10become uncool,
35:11okay,
35:12and they got
35:13into a fight.
35:14Isaac stabbed
35:15Jay.
35:16I know he went
35:17to the hospital,
35:17and he went back
35:19to Little Rock
35:19after that,
35:20didn't he?
35:20The same day, yes.
35:24When did Jay
35:25come to Tulsa?
35:27They came to Tulsa
35:28on the 14th.
35:29She says the day
35:30Isaac was murdered,
35:32Javion came back
35:33to Tulsa
35:33with a friend.
35:34Who's his friend?
35:36I don't know his friend.
35:37And we were
35:38at my auntie's house
35:39the whole day.
35:43Here's the thing.
35:44You seem like
35:45an intelligent girl,
35:46and I don't want you
35:47to screw your life up
35:48because this is
35:49a murder investigation,
35:51and I know
35:51that Javion
35:53is the one
35:53that killed Isaac.
35:55Okay, let me tell you.
35:57You'd have to know
35:58something about that,
35:58and I'm going
35:59to tell you why,
36:00because you just
36:00locked yourself
36:01into a story
36:02about these young men
36:03being with you
36:04the whole time
36:04at your auntie's house.
36:06I got Javion's
36:07phone number,
36:08and guess what?
36:09I can put his phone
36:11at Sunset Plaza.
36:25I don't know
36:26nothing about that.
36:27You got to know
36:27about that because
36:28you said they were
36:29with you the whole time.
36:30anything about that.
36:33Okay.
36:34Guess what else I got.
36:36I really don't care.
36:37Well, you probably need to.
36:39I'm going to show you
36:39something.
36:41See if you recognize this.
36:45No, I do not.
36:46You don't recognize that?
36:47No, I do not.
36:48You recognize that?
36:50The two hats
36:50that they were wearing
36:51that day?
36:51You don't recognize those?
36:52I don't recognize
36:52these hats.
36:53Sure you don't.
36:55I don't.
36:59All right.
36:59Well, I can see
37:00we're going to not
37:01get anywhere with you.
37:02So here's what
37:03I'm going to tell you.
37:04I've got enough
37:05probable cause at this
37:06point that Javion
37:08killed Isaac.
37:09And you know that,
37:10and I know that,
37:11and you don't want
37:11to talk about that.
37:12Well, I don't know
37:12what you're talking about.
37:13Oh, yeah, you do.
37:15Ma'am, you know,
37:16I've been doing this
37:16for a long time,
37:17and I don't have
37:17to know somebody
37:18very well to know
37:19when they're lying to me.
37:20Well, I'm telling you
37:22I'm not lying.
37:22I'm done.
37:24And you're welcome
37:25to get out of here.
37:27You're welcome.
37:31I was losing my patience.
37:33I was going to get ugly
37:34there if I didn't get
37:34out of there with her,
37:35and she wasn't going
37:36to come off of it.
37:39It doesn't matter
37:39if people are going
37:40to talk to us or not.
37:41We're going to try
37:42to find things
37:43that we don't need
37:44witnesses for,
37:45you know,
37:45such as videos,
37:46such as DNA.
37:48Sometimes we have
37:49to do it the hard way.
37:54The next day...
37:58Oh, here it is.
38:00The team gets video
38:01from the apartment complex
38:03where Javion's girlfriend
38:04was staying
38:04on the day
38:05of the murder.
38:07Oh, there it is.
38:09So the car's backing up
38:10right there.
38:11You can see it.
38:13You can even see
38:14the paper tag.
38:16If I could just catch
38:17one of them knuckleheads
38:18with that freaking hat on,
38:21but you can't tell
38:22who's in there.
38:26And then it leaves
38:27in about 518.
38:31It's about a seven
38:32or eight minute drive
38:33to the crime scene.
38:36Kennedy turns
38:37to surveillance video
38:38of the team recovered
38:39from a business
38:40next to the crime scene.
38:44Yeah, about 537.
38:47Seven minutes
38:48before the 911 call,
38:49the same white Camry
38:51pulls into the complex.
38:53Same front end,
38:55same type of vehicle,
38:56same headlights.
38:58So, yeah,
38:58we've got a vehicle
39:00that matches
39:00the description
39:01of Javion Washington
39:03entering the crime scene
39:05at near the time
39:07of the murder.
39:09Looking at the totality
39:11of this whole investigation,
39:12we have motive,
39:13we have means,
39:15and we have opportunity.
39:18Javion and Isaac
39:19were obviously feuding.
39:22And I got Javion's
39:24cell phone hitting off
39:25a tower in direct direction
39:28of where the crime
39:30occurred,
39:31and then the vehicle
39:33in that complex
39:34at the same time.
39:36We have plenty enough
39:37for a first degree
39:37murder charge
39:38on Javion Washington.
39:41My belief is
39:42he's in Little Rock, Arkansas.
39:44I've contacted
39:45Detective Henry
39:47with the homicide unit there.
39:49They're on it.
39:50We'll put his face
39:52on the news.
39:53We'll see if we can
39:54get him to either
39:55give himself up
39:57or be apprehended.
40:02New at 9,
40:03detectives believe
40:03a Tulsa murder suspect
40:05may be in Arkansas.
40:06Now, police in
40:07Little Rock, Arkansas
40:08posted this digital
40:10wanted poster
40:11of Washington today.
40:18Three months
40:19after Isaac was murdered.
40:20We had Little Rock PD
40:22trying to find
40:24Javion Washington.
40:25They put out
40:26media release
40:27that he was wanted
40:28for a murder in Tulsa.
40:29I guess it was
40:30enough pressure on him
40:31that he decided
40:32to come turn himself
40:33into the Tulsa County Jail.
40:35Tried to go talk to him,
40:37but he requested
40:38an attorney.
40:39So he's been booked in
40:40on one count
40:41of first-degree murder.
40:49Kennedy calls
40:50Isaac's mother.
40:51Hello?
40:52Hey, it's
40:53Detective Kennedy.
40:54I just want to let you
40:55know that Javion
40:56is in custody.
40:59You're very welcome.
41:00He's in the Tulsa County
41:01Jail right now.
41:04So now we just
41:06start the court process.
41:07It's going to be
41:08a lengthy time,
41:09so just get prepared.
41:10It doesn't happen overnight.
41:11Okay.
41:12All right?
41:13All right.
41:14All right.
41:14You take care.
41:17I think she's
41:17just happy he's in custody.
41:20Obviously,
41:20there's a second person.
41:21We would love to know
41:22who that is,
41:23so I'll keep trying
41:24to work on that
41:25and figure out
41:25who that could be.
41:28I don't know who that is,
41:39so I'll keep trying to work on that
41:40and figure out who that could be.
41:57Guys that used to be friends,
41:59one's dead at the hands of the other.
42:02It's sad.
42:03It's unnecessary.
42:04Could have easily been avoided
42:07by just walking away
42:08or just being men
42:10and sitting there
42:10and talking about it.
42:13The younger generation,
42:14they don't seem to have
42:16those coping skills.
42:18If it's such a situation
42:19that you think
42:20that violence could occur,
42:22call the police.
42:23Have us come out there.
42:25You know,
42:26we have officers
42:27that are highly trained
42:28to resolve
42:29high-stress situations.
42:32There's nothing worth
42:33taking another life.
42:35Or if it's like...
42:40You know,
42:42Be honest.
42:42See you at the location
42:43looking,
42:43You really
