00:04Mankind is constantly facing down two existential threats, nuclear war and more recently, global warming.
00:10Now, according to a new report published in the journal Copernicus, the two are linked in a surprising way.
00:15Since the Industrial Revolution began, humans have pumped over 2 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
00:22Carbon dioxide, of course, traps heat on our planet, resulting in a global climate change that is already starting to
00:28alter the habitat on Earth.
00:29Now, experts say that amount of CO2 is the equivalent of setting off not one, not a million, but 25
00:35billion nuclear bombs.
00:38So why is this metric noteworthy? Well, because humankind is causing our planet's temperature increase, and we're about to miss
00:43our catastrophic climate goals.
00:45Experts believe we need to prevent a 2.7 degree Fahrenheit average climate increase, or many of our planet's systems
00:51will be thrown into chaos.
00:53The polar ice caps will melt, something we've already seen happening, leading to rising sea levels and the acidification of
00:59our oceans.
00:59More acidic oceans means carbon sequestering ocean life will die, leading to a domino effect, with warmer waters also changing
01:06currents, killing sea life and altering the weather.
01:09Humans are also expected to experience more intense and frequent storms, and water scarcity will become an ever-present issue
01:16for billions around the globe.
01:17We'll see you next time.
01:22We'll see you next time.
01:22We'll see you next time.
01:22Shawn
01:22Well, fortunately
01:23we'll see you next time.
01:23you
