00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine. This is the show where two celebrity teams face a series of fiendishly difficult puzzles, often
00:07against the clock.
00:08I must say, the whole thing is rather stressful, but exciting at the same time.
00:12Now, if you'll excuse me, I will use the title sequence to get into quiz master mode.
00:16This is Celebrity Puzzle.
00:33Hello, welcome to Celebrity Puzzle. Right, no time to dawdle. Let's meet our two incredible team captains.
00:38First up, she's the face of prime time and prime numbers. She's more of a plus than a minus. It's
00:43Carol Vorderman.
00:44Hey!
00:47Up against her is a multi-talented actor, writer and presenter who also knows a thing or two about solving
00:52mysteries. It's Sally Lindsay.
00:54Yay! But which celebs have we roped in today to help Carol and Sally at such short notice?
01:00Let's find out. Joining team captain Vorderman here to run rings around the competition is the incredible Roger Black MBE.
01:08Welcome, Roger.
01:10And Sally's wingman tonight is a comedian who attended the same school as John Major and is in pretty good
01:15nick for his early 80s, I must say.
01:17It's Jeff Norcots.
01:20So, Roger, Jeff, welcome.
01:22So, Roger, you're known for speed. Will speed be useful in puzzling terms?
01:28I've been practising the buzzer.
01:30Well, Carol will counsel you not to go too early with some of these.
01:34OK.
01:34I know you've said before you've got a D in maths or something. Will that be a problem in puzzling?
01:37That's all I'm...
01:38Well, there's not a lot of maths here, is there?
01:39Well, there...
01:40I wish there was, but...
01:42A good team-mate for maths, actually.
01:43And now we've got maths there and English over here, right? So, English teacher.
01:47Yeah, I think people normally are quite perturbed when they find out that I taught kids.
01:52I just sort of look like an electrician with A-levels, but I was terrible. I was terrible.
01:58The thing about this, I know there's quite a lot of word-based games, and I'll just reassure you, I'm
02:02absolutely terrible at word stuff, you know?
02:04Oh, yeah.
02:04Oh, great.
02:05Yeah, really bad. Sorry, Sally.
02:06OK, this show is made up of a series of puzzles, six rounds in total, all random, meaning no two
02:12episodes are the same.
02:13Although I do appear in all of them. I'm sorry if that comes as a disappointment.
02:17Players, you'll be doing exactly what you expect, i.e. trying to solve the said puzzles to win points.
02:22That's the crucial thing we have to remind all our challenges about.
02:26The points are useful because you take them into the final, but it can all change with the final round,
02:31which is called Answer Bank.
02:33To sweeten the deal, the winning celebrity guest will get one of our puzzling cubes as a keepsake.
02:42And I know immediately I can feel the tension rising in the studio because they're both Jeff and Roger thinking,
02:47I want that.
02:49So, time to find out the identity of round one. Let's get puzzling.
02:53You've got to keep your eyes peeled for this one. It is word flash.
02:59So, in this round, you're going to be given a category followed by some of the answer.
03:03Your job is to fill in the full answer.
03:04So, for example, you might be given the category big sculpture followed by a series of boxes that appear one
03:10by one.
03:11Some have letters in and some don't.
03:12Once all the boxes have been revealed, they will quickly disappear.
03:16When they reappear, there will be more letters filled in.
03:18You've got to give this a go. Big sculpture.
03:22Something of something.
03:24Yes, so different letters are coming up each time.
03:26Oh, Angel of the North.
03:28Angel of the North. Good for you.
03:30I'll call you Sally.
03:32I'm glad.
03:34So, big sculpture, Angel of the North.
03:36You triple as well.
03:36OK, Carol, Roger, Sally, Jeff. Fingers on buzzers.
03:40Because you've got to be fast. It's going to favour Roger, I think.
03:43Here's your first Arthurian legend.
03:50Long word.
03:52Second word, two letters.
03:54Three, four.
03:56Oh, Jeff!
03:57Gone too early, haven't I?
03:59Go on.
03:59I've got something of the round table, but none of that fits.
04:02Let's see if you're right.
04:05Ah.
04:05No.
04:06Carol, Roger, get a chance to steal.
04:08Yes.
04:09Knights of the round table.
04:10Yeah, now, I know what you're thinking, Jeff.
04:12You're thinking it can't be table because it's only three letters.
04:14Had you allowed it to go to the end of the reveal,
04:18yet.
04:20You would have seen the other two.
04:22First blood to Carol and Roger.
04:24Next, please.
04:25Sandwich filling.
04:26Ooh, nice.
04:27Is the clue.
04:30A very long word.
04:34Carol.
04:35Coronation chicken.
04:36Oh, blimey.
04:37Let's see if you're right.
04:40Yes.
04:41I didn't do that.
04:42I don't know.
04:43I was going tuna mayonnaise.
04:45That's what I thought.
04:45Egg sarnies.
04:47You know, all the egg and press.
04:48Very posh sandwich.
04:49I've never had coronation chicken.
04:51Coronation chicken, yeah.
04:51You haven't lived.
04:52Next, please.
04:55Oh, a film quote.
05:00What?
05:01Oh, gosh.
05:02Go on, Sally.
05:03It's a guess.
05:04May the force be with you.
05:05Let's see if you're right.
05:09This is fast.
05:11Yeah.
05:11Even for these two captains, it's fast.
05:14Sally used the force there.
05:16I didn't know one quote.
05:18And that was it.
05:18Action stations.
05:19Next, please.
05:21It's a dance track.
05:22Oh, blimey.
05:26Roger.
05:27Murder on the dance floor.
05:28Yes!
05:29This is nuts.
05:30How are you doing this?
05:32I'm going to see you later.
05:34Go on.
05:35Is he right?
05:36With Murder on the Dance Floor.
05:39Hey!
05:40Mad.
05:42Murder on the buzzer.
05:43We've not had a game like this.
05:44This is when you get an athlete in.
05:46Everyone speeds up.
05:47Next one.
05:4990s film.
05:51See if you get this before, it's fully spelt out.
05:55A three and a four.
05:56And a four.
05:57And a one.
06:00And a long one.
06:03Ah.
06:04Now there's a bit of a pause.
06:06Okay.
06:07We've got you.
06:10Something.
06:11W.I.T.
06:11Something.
06:13Ooh.
06:15What's that last word?
06:1790s film.
06:19Starts with a D.
06:20Ah.
06:20Jeff.
06:21Die Hard with a Vengeance.
06:24Is he right with Die Hard with a Vengeance?
06:29We're all in.
06:30We're all in, guys.
06:31That's good.
06:32We have got a puzzling game today.
06:35My goodness me.
06:37Excellent.
06:37Okay.
06:38Last one.
06:38This feels like almost a decider in this round.
06:41All four of you playing so well.
06:432020s TV series.
06:45Come on.
06:45This is right up your street.
06:48Probably Madame Blanc.
06:50It's a four.
06:52A seven.
06:53Two.
06:54Three.
06:55Look at that.
06:56Oh.
06:57Seven.
06:57Eight.
06:59Oh, I can see this.
07:012020s TV series could be on any platform, I guess.
07:05Oh, here we are.
07:07Second word.
07:07Go on, Sally.
07:09Only Murders in the Building.
07:11Only Murders in the Building.
07:13Yeah.
07:14Oh, it is.
07:15No, you're right.
07:16I've not heard of that.
07:17Only Murders in the Building is the right answer.
07:19Well done, Sally.
07:21Wow.
07:21What a round.
07:22Red hot.
07:23Carol and Roger have five points.
07:26Not bad.
07:28Jeff and Sally got one more.
07:31Oh.
07:33The gauntlet has been thrown down.
07:35Were you quicker than our celebrities on that buzzer?
07:37I hope you enjoyed playing it at home.
07:39What's a round?
07:43I'm there watching, trying to play it in my own head.
07:46He's constantly shot when we get into it.
07:48I'm on zero, guys.
07:49I'm on zero.
07:50It's off to the letterbox we go for our next round.
07:52In this round, the teams each get a turn to try to bank some more points,
07:55and the puzzle in question now is called Word Blocks.
08:01I'll show you how this works.
08:02You will see an empty word block with just the corners filled in,
08:04so you can see there.
08:05You also have a number of letter tiles to choose from.
08:08So you pick your four letters to spell out four words.
08:11You might want to give that a go.
08:12Top right E for or.
08:14Or.
08:15Or, yes.
08:16And then egg.
08:17Tug.
08:18Tug.
08:19And aft.
08:20Act.
08:21Act.
08:21What is it?
08:21OK, so that's right.
08:23Aft.
08:23And K wasn't needed because it's in there to just throw us a bit of strength.
08:29It's worth three points.
08:30As ever, you're against the clock.
08:31So, Sally and Geoff, you're going first.
08:33Head on over and let's play Word Blocks.
08:38So, when you are happy with your answer,
08:40make sure you hit the button.
08:41Good luck to you both.
08:42Your time starts now.
08:43OK.
08:44OK, so that's off, isn't it?
08:45Yeah, off.
08:46Is that fly?
08:47Whoa.
08:47Is that bay?
08:50Bay, so...
08:51No, it can't be.
08:51It's got to be orb.
08:52So that's bay.
08:53There you go.
08:54Press it.
08:54What?
08:54Choice.
08:55Push.
08:57OK, yeah, you're going to be out of here early tonight.
09:01Let's see.
09:02Your next word block will be a tiny bit harder.
09:04We're giving you more letters to choose from,
09:05so there are more red herrings.
09:07This is where it gets left.
09:08And this is worth four points.
09:09Reveal the puzzle.
09:10Your time starts now.
09:14OK, er, oh, what's that?
09:16Er, OK, dob, dob?
09:19Dab?
09:19Dab, dob?
09:20Dab, yeah, yeah, dob.
09:22Fib, like a lawyer.
09:23Fib, hang on.
09:23And what's this one, then?
09:25Old.
09:26Um, old.
09:27What's the name of that can't?
09:28Oh, oh, there you go.
09:30That's by accident.
09:31Well done.
09:32Old.
09:33Old.
09:33Fib, dob.
09:35Yeah.
09:35Well done, you got them all.
09:36Well, within time, your final word block is the hardest yet.
09:39Still just three letter words on each side,
09:41so the same pattern for your solutions,
09:43but even more spare letters to choose from.
09:46This one is going to be worth a massive five points.
09:48Your time starts now.
09:51Oh, Katie, oh, I'm all...
09:53What's that?
09:54Pre-pro...
09:56What is that?
09:56Pro-pro-pro-professional, maybe?
09:58Right, OK, cop.
09:59Koi is in Koi, cop, yeah.
10:00Fry.
10:01Cop, is that...
10:02Ivy.
10:03So what's that?
10:04That'd be, er...
10:06Q...
10:07Key?
10:08Kef?
10:08I wonder if it's like Koi is in Koi.
10:10Oh, OK, yeah, yeah, right, you're right.
10:11Kip, Kip.
10:12Yeah.
10:12Is that right?
10:13Yeah, Ivy, yeah, that one.
10:15Yeah?
10:15Fry, yeah.
10:17Well done.
10:18Yeah, doesn't look right for it.
10:20K-something-I does not look right.
10:22I would have got that.
10:22Yeah, well, you're thinking football, so you ain't cop.
10:25I was thinking cop, yeah.
10:26Well, look, you've had a perfect score there.
10:27Well done, Sally and Geoff.
10:28Your visit to the letterbox has scored you 12 points, the maximum.
10:31How many points did you rack up at home?
10:34Carol and Roger are next.
10:35How are you feeling, Roger?
10:36Pretty nervous if I'm on.
10:37You can see there's a speed element, but you just do it within time, you're fine.
10:42So before Carol and Roger get their chance to play word blocks, let's stop for a quick break.
10:46Remember, it's not goodbye.
10:48It's so long.
10:49See you in a few minutes.
10:53If you want to keep puzzling, see if you can complete the vertical word to solve this hurdle.
10:59Get puzzling.
11:06Have you completed the missing word and solved this hurdle?
11:11If you did, great puzzling.
11:16Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
11:17The ad break was useful.
11:19A couple of things in there that I might consider getting you to for Christmas.
11:22We're currently halfway through a puzzle we call Word Blocks because that's its name.
11:27Carol and Roger, as I promised, your turn to play Word Blocks.
11:30As a reminder, you'll see an empty word block down here with some of the letters filled in.
11:34You also have a number of letter tiles to choose from.
11:37You've got to pick four letters to spell out four words.
11:40Two horizontally, two vertically, just like a crossword.
11:43It's worth three points, the first one.
11:44You saw how it worked.
11:45Just remember, hit the red button when you're happy with your answer.
11:48Carol and Roger, here's your first word block.
11:51Here we go, Roger.
11:53Oh, so what would that be?
11:55Hot, maybe.
11:56Yeah, hot.
11:59What's that one?
12:00Osh.
12:01Osh, yeah.
12:01Would it be? Is that a word?
12:03It has to be, doesn't it?
12:03What else could it be?
12:04O-A-O-I.
12:07Ooh.
12:08Ooh.
12:09Ooh, yes.
12:10Hit.
12:11Knit.
12:12Own.
12:13Own.
12:13Own.
12:14Hat.
12:14Hat.
12:15Hat and knit.
12:17We good with that?
12:19Ooh.
12:20A bit of uncertainty.
12:22I didn't know ooh was a word.
12:23I don't know.
12:24It was a bit of a guesswork.
12:26Ooh is a word.
12:27We've looked it up.
12:28Your next word block will be a tiny bit harder because we're giving you more letters to choose from,
12:32so this puzzle is worth four points.
12:34Reveal the puzzle.
12:35Your time starts now.
12:38There are your letters.
12:40I would say shoe.
12:41OK.
12:41Yeah, ash.
12:42Ash.
12:44Asp.
12:44Asp.
12:45And pie.
12:46Yeah, are we happy with that?
12:47Very happy with that.
12:48We're very happy.
12:49That was sort of a snakey way you hit the red button.
12:52I think we were in sync then, weren't we?
12:54Very happy.
12:54Yeah.
12:55Yeah.
12:56Asp.
12:56Ooh.
12:56Is that a snake?
12:58Is that the Cleopatra?
12:59Yes, it is.
13:00Was she bitten by an asp?
13:02Or was she bitten on the asp?
13:03And she went ooh.
13:05And she went ooh.
13:06She did go ooh.
13:07Ash is right.
13:08Pie is right.
13:09Asp is the snake and hue is the colour.
13:12There we go.
13:13OK, your final word block is the hardest yet.
13:14Still just three-letter words on each side.
13:17Even more spare letters to choose from.
13:19It's sort of the red herring grand central.
13:21This word block is worth a massive five points.
13:24OK, both, your time starts now.
13:28Boa could be boa.
13:30Boa, yes.
13:31It could be bun or bum.
13:32It could be bum.
13:34It could be bun.
13:36Hang on, we've got a problem here.
13:39So it's something S.
13:42So it could be bus and...
13:43Yes, bus and scus, scus, lee, she.
13:48She and ale.
13:50Ale.
13:51Ale.
13:51Are we happy with that?
13:53That looks right to me.
13:55Yeah?
13:58Because these three letters are extra so they can mislead you.
14:01But you did well there.
14:02I don't know, but is there anything else could have gone in...
14:04Well, I was such a trick son.
14:06Bum.
14:07Yeah.
14:08Bum, yeah.
14:08Yeah, I went down the bum.
14:09Of course, we went straight to bum there.
14:11Well, we've had already the asp involved, so...
14:14Yeah, and now we've had a boa.
14:15We've got an asp, a boa, and a...
14:18OK, it's been a good round.
14:20And you've scored maximum as well.
14:22Well done.
14:22Please head back to your seats.
14:27So, how many puzzles did you solve at home?
14:30Carol and Roger, your visit to the letterbox has scored you 12 points.
14:34Oh, phew.
14:35Let's see what that's done to the scores.
14:36So, Carol and Roger, 17.
14:39Woo-hoo!
14:41Now, are they ahead?
14:43Sally and Geoff, 18.
14:45Yeah.
14:46Good evening.
14:47Very good.
14:49You're so competitive, Roger.
14:50I love it.
14:50But you have to be.
14:51Don't know about that.
14:52You've heard these three.
14:53Do you have...
14:54Don't make that assumption.
14:55Do not make that assumption.
14:56Time to play our next puzzle.
14:57Close your eyes.
14:58Count to 100, because it is time for Hidden Answer.
15:03So, an example for you.
15:05In this game, the answer will be there right in front of you,
15:07although, sadly, it's a bit jumbled up.
15:09So, you'll see a puzzle word on the left,
15:11followed by a clue on the right.
15:12Here we've got enlarged bird.
15:14So, the clue is bird, and it's somewhere in the word enlarge.
15:18Eagle.
15:18Eagle.
15:19Yeah, eagle.
15:20Let's see if eagle is there.
15:22Yes, it is.
15:23That's it.
15:24That's how you do it.
15:25So, no points on offer there.
15:26Let's do it for real.
15:28Carol and Roger, your move.
15:29Oh, OK.
15:32Wetted fabric.
15:33And the clue is fabric.
15:34Oh, fabric.
15:39Gosh.
15:41Er, we...
15:43Let's do it.
15:46What would that be?
15:49Tweet.
15:50Tweet.
15:51Oh, very good.
15:52Let's see if it's right.
15:53Tweet is right!
15:56That was hard.
15:57Roger Black for the photo finish.
15:59Oh, unbelievable.
16:01Sally and Geoff, it's your turn.
16:02Here we go.
16:04Springy farm animals.
16:06The clue is farm animals.
16:10I am terrible at these.
16:12OK, so what's farm animal?
16:16Do noises.
16:20Pigs.
16:22Pigs.
16:22In space.
16:23Pigs.
16:23In space.
16:24Pigs is your answer.
16:25Let's see if they're in space or not.
16:26Yes, they are.
16:30I'm just going to be a good hype man for this round.
16:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:33You got it, girl.
16:34Exactly.
16:34Yeah.
16:35Get ready, Carol and Roger.
16:37Here is the next one for you.
16:39Here are the words.
16:40Flavia toy.
16:40Toy.
16:41The clue is toy.
16:46Barbie.
16:48Oh, you are good at this.
16:50Roger Black.
16:51Is that your answer?
16:53Yeah.
16:54Barbie.
16:56Barbie's right.
16:57Well done.
16:59You're on it.
17:00Really on it.
17:01Sally and Geoff to catch up.
17:04Flaky vegetable.
17:05So somewhere in the word flaky is a vegetable.
17:12I think it might be kale.
17:15Kale.
17:15So fashionable now, kale.
17:20And imagine if you were suddenly a kale farmer for years,
17:23just had a modest income.
17:24Yeah, exactly.
17:26OK, Carol and Roger, here's your final one.
17:29Non-smoker sport.
17:31By definition, the clue is sport.
17:38Ah, yes.
17:40Roger has got this, and you said...
17:42It's snooker.
17:43It's snooker, I think.
17:45You're good.
17:45I mean, I know you're...
17:46Very good.
17:47Once you see them, you see them, but all the same.
17:49Is it snooker?
17:51Yeah.
17:52Pop Black.
17:53Well done.
17:55Here we go with your last one.
17:57Invest in lubricant.
17:59Oh, hello.
18:00So, lubricant is the clue.
18:02My mind's going in all the wrong places.
18:08Oh, hang on.
18:09Let's think of lubricants.
18:11Jelly, baby oil, butter, if you're struggling.
18:23You've just got me laughing out there.
18:30Oh, wait a minute.
18:31Nivea.
18:32I mean, Sally and Lester's, I'm just not literally...
18:34That's the only thing I've seen in there.
18:36Do you need an answer?
18:37It's all right.
18:38Nivea.
18:38So, you say Nivea.
18:41Oh.
18:42I won't speculate.
18:43I'll let you steal it if you can.
18:45I don't think we're anywhere near.
18:46I don't think we can see it.
18:47No.
18:48No.
18:49This is such a good one, because you're going to go crazy.
18:51Vaseline.
18:52Oh.
18:53Oh.
18:53It's almost the most obvious.
18:56Yes, it is.
18:57Vaseline.
18:58Yeah.
18:58OK.
18:59At the end of that round, Sally and Jeff have got 22.
19:03Let's see Carol and Roger's score.
19:06It is 23.
19:09What a round.
19:10What a game.
19:12We crack on.
19:13Did you solve any at home?
19:14Well done, because they're not easy.
19:15Did you get Vaseline?
19:17That's the end of part two.
19:18We'll just smooth our way.
19:21Smooth our way into the adverts, shall we?
19:23Join us for part three if you want to remain on the right side of history.
19:27There's still ample celebrity puzzling to be done.
19:29I'll see you soon.
19:34Can you use the clue and pick the starting point to solve this around
19:37the block puzzle?
19:39All will be revealed after the break.
19:47Did you successfully solve this around the block puzzle?
19:51If you cracked it, well done.
19:57Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
19:59In a nutshell, it's kind of like solving riddles by committee.
20:02But it's more fun than that sounds.
20:04Carol and Sally have roped in celebrity friends Roger Black and Jeff Norcott.
20:08They all want to be winners.
20:10That is statistically improbable.
20:12I hope at least Carol has worked that out.
20:13In the next round, Roger and Jeff face off each other head-to-head.
20:17It's Olympic silver versus comedy gold as they take on Around the Block.
20:25On the screen, you'll be shown a puzzle consisting of a clue in the middle of the block and a
20:29series
20:29of letters around the outside.
20:30The answer is there for you to see.
20:32You've just got to work out where it starts and where it ends.
20:34Have a go.
20:35Landmark.
20:36So go and say it.
20:37Sydney Harbour Bridge.
20:39Sydney Harbour Bridge.
20:40So there are no stray letters in there.
20:42It's just the question of where it starts.
20:44Very good.
20:45Landmark Sydney Harbour Bridge.
20:46There will be five puzzles to solve.
20:48Fingers on buzzers.
20:50Just Roger and Jeff.
20:51Just our guests.
20:52Here's your first one.
20:54Conspiracy is the clue.
21:00Who's got it?
21:01Oh, go on.
21:02Jeff.
21:03The gunpowder plot.
21:04The gunpowder plot.
21:06Yes.
21:06I think the the might have thrown you there.
21:08Because it wasn't quite clear where it started.
21:10Let's have a look.
21:13The gunpowder plot.
21:14Well done.
21:15There it is.
21:16OK.
21:17Fingers on buzzers.
21:18Here's the next for you both.
21:21It's birthday.
21:22Birthday.
21:25Jeff.
21:26Many happy returns.
21:28Let's see if it is many happy returns.
21:31I can't see these.
21:33OK.
21:35Next, please.
21:37Best-selling novel.
21:46Roger.
21:47Lessons in Chemistry.
21:49Lessons in Chemistry.
21:50Did you hear how hard he hit that buzzer there?
21:52Oh, yeah.
21:53That's an athlete's bang.
21:55Let's see.
21:56Lessons in Chemistry.
21:58Very good.
21:59I have never...
22:00I just, for the record, I have never heard of that book.
22:03That's what makes it more impressive, mate, yeah.
22:05Action Stations, time for another TV show.
22:08Not this one.
22:15Jeff.
22:17Holmes under the hammer.
22:20Yes.
22:21Holmes under the hammer.
22:23Surely you have to answer as soon as you hit the buzzer.
22:25That's your question.
22:26I was always talking.
22:27He put himself five, ten seconds.
22:29Just because I beat you around the track, right?
22:32Holmes under the hammer.
22:33I just said it.
22:34Or as Geoff said, Holmes under the hammer.
22:38I got it.
22:39Nah.
22:40Here's the last.
22:40This could be important.
22:41Category Singers.
22:49Roger.
22:50Simon and Garfunkel.
22:52Simon and Garfunkel.
22:54Let's see if that's right.
22:55Very good.
22:56Very good.
22:57Well done, Roger.
22:58And Geoff.
22:58That was quite a round.
22:59This is a contest, isn't it?
23:01Roger scored four.
23:02Geoff scored six.
23:04Can we take a look at the totals for each team?
23:06Carol and Roger have 27 points.
23:10Sally and Geoff have 28 points.
23:15It's like that.
23:16It's like that.
23:16Our next puzzling round proves it's hip to be square.
23:19So join us as we play Shapeshifters.
23:24Let's see an example of how this works.
23:27You will see a grid of answers, a question and a corresponding shape.
23:32Simply give me the correct answers.
23:34Crucially, Carol, you...
23:36You can't rotate the shape.
23:38Very good.
23:39So it's got to be one red square on top of the other.
23:41And I've heard...
23:42I've been outside the building.
23:43I've heard people say...
23:45Is it down on the street, Carol?
23:46Oh, yeah, well, it's almost.
23:47It's not quite the street,
23:48but it's the road between the studio and the street.
23:51It's golf terms.
23:52Yeah.
23:53And you've got nine words.
23:54Yeah.
23:55And you want two.
23:56And they're one above the other.
23:58Yeah.
23:59Say what it is.
24:00So it's albatross and bogey.
24:04Albatross and bogey.
24:04Let's see.
24:05We'll show you if it's right.
24:06And then I'll tell you what.
24:07Albatross is three under par.
24:09Bogey is one over par.
24:10And then I can show you the other ones that would have...
24:14Ostrich.
24:14Yes, they would have counted had they been in the right formation.
24:18Ostrich is five under par.
24:20Whoa!
24:21Birdie is one under par.
24:22Penguin, pelican, tit, vulture, thrush are not golfing terms.
24:27You can't say tit, vulture, thrush in one sentence
24:29and expect a comedian not to.
24:32Carol and Roger, you're up first.
24:34For two points, here's your puzzle.
24:35The category, characters in The Simpsons.
24:39Oh, OK.
24:39Do you know The Simpsons as well?
24:40I don't.
24:41Look at the shape.
24:42It's one and then the second on the diagonal.
24:45You can't rotate the shape.
24:47Maggie is one.
24:47Maggie and this goes to you, is it?
24:51I don't know The Simpsons.
24:52I don't know enough about Simpsons.
24:55So...
24:58Er...
24:58I've just got a feeling Comic Book Guy is one of them.
25:03But I know that Maggie is, so should we go with...
25:07And Disco Stew, it has to be.
25:08I don't watch that.
25:09We're going Maggie and Disco Stew, but we're not sure.
25:12Maggie, Disco Stew, is it right?
25:15They are characters in The Simpsons and they are in the right shape.
25:17Well done.
25:18So, well done, Carol, because you got that straight from Maggie.
25:20Other answers you could have had if they'd been in the right shape are...
25:25Well done.
25:26Oh!
25:26Yeah, Comic Book Guy.
25:27Comic Book Guy and Cletus Buckler.
25:29And you got the right answer.
25:30Well done.
25:31Both Sally and Geoff, here's your first shapeshifters puzzle.
25:36Coffee drinks.
25:37And it's one above the other, please.
25:41Coffee drinks.
25:44I don't drink coffee.
25:45I don't either.
25:47Because I like tea and I think drinking coffee is not very patriotic.
25:53You know when you get to a service station and they haven't got tea, I'll report them.
25:57I'll put them on a list.
25:59What do I reckon?
26:01Coffee drinks.
26:01Obviously, flat white is, but a long black isn't.
26:04No.
26:04So, cortado and ice blue, I'm thinking.
26:08Cortado is.
26:09Right, okay.
26:10And that's for ice blue, I'm thinking that could be.
26:12They're 100% going to know this because they're sophisticated.
26:15I can tell.
26:16I'm thinking.
26:17We have to get this right.
26:18Go on.
26:19I'm thinking cortado and ice blue.
26:21I don't know, though.
26:22A long black, you'd just say Americano, wouldn't you?
26:24You would, yeah.
26:25That's what I don't, I don't get it.
26:26So, I think it's iced blue, which is one of the modern young people drinks, I imagine.
26:31And cortado.
26:31Cortado is definitely, so I'd go for that.
26:33Yeah.
26:34Might be horribly wrong, sorry.
26:36All right, ice blue and cortado, are you right?
26:40Oh, sorry, mate.
26:42So, we passed it over.
26:44You can steal for a point.
26:46You know.
26:46No, you know, and it's your name.
26:49Yeah, so it is actually a long black is a coffee.
26:52Is it?
26:52Yeah.
26:53It's flat white and long black.
26:54You have a black coffee and then they add extra water.
26:57Yeah.
26:57Oh, I didn't know that.
26:59Let's see, long black and flat white, is that the answer?
27:02Well done, Roger and Carol.
27:04No, I wasn't sure either.
27:05Of course, Roger Black, long black, so you would have clocked your name on coffee menus.
27:10All right.
27:11Let's have a look at other answers that might have counted.
27:14Red Eye Coffee combines brewed coffee and espresso.
27:17That'd be fun.
27:19Cortado, you're right to say, you know it was, Sally.
27:21Espresso and milk in equal parts.
27:23Carol, Roger, here's your second.
27:25All right.
27:26And the shape increases, so you've got to find three answers in the book and match the shape.
27:31Towns granted city status in the 21st century.
27:33Is Wrexham one?
27:34Wrexham's definitely one.
27:36So is Preston, so Colchester, Wrexham, Sheffield?
27:39Yeah, so it's one of those sort of threes, isn't it?
27:42But Milton Keynes is 21st century.
27:44Worth three points.
27:4621st century.
27:4721st century.
27:47I think Sheffield has always been a city.
27:50Absolutely.
27:50Right.
27:51Milton Keynes is recent, isn't it?
27:53I think it is.
27:55And Preston.
27:55I didn't know that Preston was recent.
27:56But when was Wrexham?
27:57When was Wrexham?
27:58Wrexham was recently.
27:59So we've got 25 years, haven't we, to talk about?
28:01Yeah, yeah, correct.
28:02So you're sure about Wrexham?
28:03I'm pretty sure about Wrexham, yeah.
28:04So if you're sure about Wrexham, it's...
28:06Then we're going Preston and Milton Keynes?
28:08Because it's Sheffield.
28:10Sheffield's been a city for...
28:11It was a steel city.
28:13So we've got Preston, Milton Keynes and Wrexham.
28:16Yeah, we're happy with those.
28:17Preston, Milton Keynes, Wrexham, you say,
28:19were granted city status in the 21st century.
28:22Yeah.
28:22Is that right?
28:24Yes!
28:25Yes!
28:25Well played!
28:27Not easy.
28:29So any others in the category that might have worked?
28:34Colchester is the only one.
28:362022.
28:37So what an interesting thing.
28:38It's very, very late arrivals.
28:42Preston, Milton, Keynes, Wrexham, and they were the answer.
28:45Sally and Geoff now for three points.
28:47More points, but a bit harder.
28:49Lots of names.
28:50King Charles's grandchildren.
28:52Oh, dearie, dearie me.
28:53This is not easy.
28:54So we want three, please, in a kind of upside-down L shape.
28:58So I think I've got this.
28:59Yeah.
29:00I think.
29:01Lilybeth, George and Louie.
29:03Chardonnay.
29:03I mean, look, I'm not saying that is the answer.
29:05I wish it was.
29:06Obviously, Charlotte is, but it's not.
29:07Obviously, it's not in the...
29:09And you can't rotate the shape.
29:10Can't rotate the shape.
29:11That's it, good.
29:12Well done.
29:12Yeah.
29:13I like you can't rotate the shape.
29:14That's like classic Brucey.
29:16Yes.
29:16What do we say, lads?
29:17All right.
29:18Tonight, remember, you can't rotate the shape.
29:25Yeah, I think you're right.
29:26We think it's Louie, Lilibet, and George.
29:31OK.
29:31Yeah.
29:31Let's see.
29:33We want it to be Chardonnay.
29:34Is it right?
29:35Yes, it is.
29:36Well done.
29:38Let's have a look.
29:39Who else is a grandchild?
29:40Charlotte, Archie.
29:41Charlotte is Prince William's.
29:43Archie is Harry's.
29:45Lilibet is Harry's.
29:46George is William's.
29:47Louie's William's.
29:48And there is no Je Majesty.
29:51Jermaine Jackson's son is called Je Majesty.
29:54It's really.
29:55It's really.
29:56Carol and Roger, here's your final one.
29:58Slightly larger grid again.
29:59You are still looking for three answers that match the shape.
30:02Don't rotate it.
30:03Here we go.
30:04Types of hat.
30:05We've got 16.
30:06OK.
30:06So, we're at that shape, which we can't rotate.
30:10Boater and Stetson, obviously.
30:12I'm not sure about Ulster.
30:14No, nor am I.
30:17Um, Chesterfield is not.
30:21Muff isn't.
30:22Yeah.
30:23Southwester is something.
30:23And Muff is something you put your hands into.
30:25Chesterfield is a.
30:27It's a sofa.
30:28Sofa.
30:28At the moment, we're still looking at Boater and Stetson and Ulster.
30:32But we don't know there's an Ulster hat.
30:34Doesn't mean there isn't.
30:34But I can't see anything else.
30:36So, if we just go on the shape now.
30:37Yeah.
30:38And we're going to get.
30:39Lock it in, Roger.
30:41Lock it in.
30:41Pretend that we know that there is an Ulster hat.
30:43Yeah, exactly.
30:45Lock it in.
30:45OK, Boater, Stetson and Ulster.
30:48Boater, Stetson, Ulster.
30:49See why you've done that.
30:51We're not confident.
30:51Boater, of course, Stetson, of course.
30:53Let's see.
30:54Are you right?
30:56Oh!
30:56Oh, that's painful.
31:00Right as still.
31:01We totally thought you were right, so we just signed out.
31:04So we're just done the same.
31:04We're just staring at you.
31:05I would have done the same.
31:07Where are you going to go then, team?
31:09But you've got to give me the answer quickly, please.
31:10So the only other hat I know, it's our Western newsboy cloche.
31:14Oh, OK.
31:16Let's see if that's right.
31:17Yeah.
31:18Hey!
31:19It's our Western.
31:20It's inspired.
31:20It's our Western.
31:21I thought the Southwest was the whole coat.
31:23I did as well.
31:24That's interesting.
31:24Let's have a look here at other examples.
31:26of hats we know Boater and Stetson are.
31:29Derby hat is a sort of bowler hat.
31:31OK.
31:31Sally and Geoff for three points.
31:34Comedy double X.
31:35Come on, mate.
31:35Lovely.
31:36So, look at the shape.
31:38One up, one down, one diagonal.
31:40OK, so Burke and Hare are obviously your body snatchers.
31:42Hall and Oates are singers.
31:44Key and Peele are, but it wouldn't work,
31:46cos Eric B and Rakim aren't.
31:47Hinge and Bracky definitely are.
31:49Lee and Herring is.
31:50And Derek and Clyde definitely are.
31:51Hinge and Bracky definitely are.
31:54So Watson and Oliver are they?
31:56That's where I'm just slightly unclear.
31:59I mean, I know that Key and Peele are.
32:03I know that Abba and Costello are.
32:05I don't know who Ashford and Simpson are.
32:06Ashford and Simpson are singers.
32:08Perfect.
32:09We can hold that out.
32:10Now, I think we're probably in the realms of Derek and Clive, Lee and Herring, Sam and Dave,
32:14or Lee and Herring, Watson and Oliver, Hinge and Bracket.
32:17Yeah, Bracket.
32:17My hunch would be Derek and Clive, Lee and Herring, Sam and Dave.
32:21Right, go on.
32:22You go first.
32:23Derek and Clive, Lee and Herring, Sam and Dave.
32:25Let's have a look here.
32:25Derek and Clive, Lee and Herring, Sam and Dave.
32:27Is it right?
32:30Oh!
32:31It's the other one.
32:32Oh!
32:33Well, it has to be the other one then, doesn't it?
32:35It has to be Lee and Herring, Watson and Oliver.
32:38It's that one, yeah?
32:39OK, Lee and Herring, Watson and Oliver, Hinge and Bracket is your attempt to steal.
32:43Is it right?
32:45Yes.
32:47All right, don't worry.
32:49Which Watson and Oliver, though?
32:51Well, I tell you, so Watson and Oliver is Lorna Watson and Ingrid Oliver.
32:55That's where I was confused.
32:56So these are the ones that would have counted had they been in the right position.
33:00Key and Peele, American duo, Abbott and Costello, of course.
33:03But Carol and Roger, you're right.
33:04Lee and Herring, Stuart Lee and Richard Herring.
33:06Watson and Oliver, I mentioned.
33:08Hinge and Bracket, the famous drag act from the 70s, 80s.
33:11Can I just say, when me and Roger were having the chat before,
33:15I said, the one thing you can't do on a quiz show
33:16is get something wrong that's in your area.
33:20At the end of that round, Sally and Geoff have 32 points.
33:24There you are.
33:26Who's in the lead?
33:27Well, only slightly.
33:29Carol and Roger with 34.
33:32Oh, my God.
33:34We lose five people.
33:36It's time for our penultimate round.
33:38In this one, both teams will be tackling the letterbox.
33:40The fastest team to solve their puzzle this time
33:43will get two bonus points,
33:44which should keep things interesting
33:46because the scores are so tight.
33:48I say that in case you were just zoning out a bit.
33:51So it's time to play Fernandrum.
33:56Let's see how it works, shall we?
33:57You'll see three anagrams.
33:58Each is a letter longer than the one before.
34:00You must rearrange the tiles
34:02to solve the five-letter anagram before you move on to the sixth.
34:05Well, look, there it is in front of you.
34:06Give us a go.
34:07Well, kayak, it looks like, at the bottom.
34:08Yeah, I have.
34:09Anything else?
34:09It might be the same.
34:10Person.
34:11Person, Carol.
34:13Magazine.
34:14Magazine.
34:14Oh, no, it's not.
34:15Oh, blimey.
34:16Go on, guess.
34:17Let the guests do this one.
34:18Amazing.
34:19OK.
34:19Amazing.
34:21Just shout out any louder.
34:22Amazing.
34:23Who do you think were competitive?
34:25Yeah, yeah.
34:26Yeah, yeah.
34:27You see it there.
34:28There we are.
34:29The tiger jumps out.
34:30As ever, you'll be against the clock.
34:32So, as soon as you've solved the third anagram,
34:34just do hit that red button to stop the clock.
34:36You'll score two points per solved word.
34:39However, if you complete all three anagrams faster than your opponents,
34:42you will receive two bonus points.
34:44Carol and Roger, you're leading.
34:45Please head over to the letterbox to face your Fernundrum.
34:51As soon as you solve the third Fernundrum,
34:53hit the button to stop the clock.
34:55Your time starts now.
34:56Clank.
34:56Clank.
34:57You tried the next one.
34:58Creeper.
34:58No, no, no, no, sorry.
35:02Correa.
35:03Correa.
35:03Oh, you're good at this.
35:05Yeah.
35:05She's good.
35:06What's this one?
35:08Maniac, no.
35:09Charmaine, Char, Char.
35:12Oh.
35:13Erm.
35:15Yeah.
35:16Chairman, Char...
35:17No, forget that car.
35:19Maniac.
35:20Let's start doing this.
35:21Maniac, I was thinking.
35:22No, it's not.
35:23No, no, no.
35:24Let's start doing this.
35:28Erm.
35:29Oh, let's pick it up.
35:30Come on.
35:30Erm.
35:32Erm.
35:33Unchime.
35:34No, I'm just trying things here.
35:36Unchime.
35:38Machine!
35:38Machine, machine, machine.
35:39Get it in!
35:40Machine.
35:41Time is running out.
35:42OK, got it.
35:44Yeah.
35:45Yeah!
35:47Sorry.
35:48Sometimes moving them around really helps.
35:51Yeah, you're right.
35:52Very clever, yeah.
35:53Machine, then career, then plank.
35:56Three words.
35:57Well done.
35:57You've scored six points.
35:58We'll see if it's good enough for the bonus points after Sally and Geoff have played.
36:03But before you two play, if I may, we're going to have another ad break.
36:07So we'll stop and take a breath.
36:09And if you want to find out who wins tonight's celebrity puzzling, don't move a muscle.
36:13See you in a moment.
36:17Why don't you try unscrambling this fenundrum during the ads?
36:21Happy puzzling.
36:31Did you successfully solve this fenundrum?
36:35If you did, great job.
36:40I can see that Geoff is loving this.
36:42Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
36:43Don't look round.
36:44You're the Geoff I'm talking about.
36:46We'll soon be ready to crown tonight's winners.
36:48As I use the term loosely, before the final scores are calculated by our hyper-advanced AI-powered
36:55supercomputer, we've got some red-hot puzzling still to do.
36:58So Sally and Geoff are here at the table to face fenundrum.
37:02Do make the most of this opportunity.
37:04In many ways, it's the first day of the rest of your life.
37:06Sally.
37:07What was this?
37:08Profound.
37:09Three new anagrams to solve.
37:11Remember, you must solve them in order.
37:12You need to beat the time set by Carol and Roger in order to earn the crucial bonus points.
37:16I won't tell you until afterwards if you've done that.
37:18Remember, once you solve all three anagrams, hit the button.
37:20Good luck.
37:21Your time starts now.
37:22Vixen.
37:23Vixen.
37:23Well done.
37:25Have a look at that one.
37:26OK.

37:29Joking.
37:30Oh, you should get that one.
37:31Blimey.
37:31Yeah.
37:32That was there for you.
37:34OK.
37:35OK, so what's this?
37:36Move to the table.
37:36So, OK, let's have a look.
37:41So that's throwing us there.
37:42Yeah.
37:45Choc.
37:46Mohawk?
37:47Mohawk.
37:48Mohawk.
37:48No, there's two M's there.
37:49There's two M's, yeah.
37:51Choc.
37:52No, choke.
37:54Chocum?
37:55What?
37:56Is it double M?
38:01Oh, I'm fucking happy.
38:02I don't know.
38:02Let's do it.
38:03OK, let's start again.
38:11So, I think, erm, mocker, no, what is that, K?
38:16I think it's getting in my nose.
38:19Start, end with K, oak?
38:21No, I can't get it.
38:22Oak.
38:26Hammock.
38:27Hammock!
38:29Five seconds to go.
38:30You do it and I'll press the buzzer when it's down.
38:32OK.
38:33That's it.
38:34Just put that one.
38:35Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
38:37That's it.
38:39That's it.
38:40That was just that.
38:41But you did it.
38:43That was impressive.
38:43But were you faster than them?
38:45I very much doubted.
38:46So, the words Hammock, Joking, Vixen, head back to your seats and we'll see who did it fastest.
38:55So, Sally and Jeff, you managed to add six points to your score.
38:59Who did it faster?
39:01Winning the bonus to, yeah, Carol and Roger.
39:03Yeah.
39:04So, they got the bonus.
39:06So, going into the final, the overall scores are as follows.
39:10Sally and Jeff have 38.
39:12Yeah.
39:13Carol and Roger are on 42.
39:16Oh!
39:17That's quite an advance of that.
39:18It now all comes down to this.
39:20It is time for our final round and it is Answer Bank.
39:23Oh!
39:25Come on, Carol.
39:26Come on, right.
39:27You can do it.
39:27You really can do this.
39:28Oh, you can.
39:29We can all win.
39:30Sally and Jeff, you really, really can.
39:31So, you've got some catching up, but this is for all four of you to play now.
39:35In a moment, I'll show you a grid of 12 words.
39:37I'll then ask questions against the clock.
39:39Buzz in and give me the correct answer,
39:40which could be a little bit lateral, like a crossword clue.
39:44If an answer has more than one word,
39:46you must give all the corresponding words in the correct order.
39:49You'll score a point per word.
39:51So, it could add up to winning or losing the whole show on this.
39:55Let's reveal all the words on Answer Bank.
39:58In, rum, ding-a-ling, red, heart, hour, my, arm, hand, under, cross, right.

42:44I wanted to play with it.
42:44Did anyone get, when we said backwards crime?
42:47No.
42:48Murder is red rum.
42:50Red rum spelled backwards, as in The Shining.

43:50You'd have a steward's inquiry if this was our thing.
43:52All that remains is to thank Carol, Sally, Roger and Geoff
43:55and ask them if they think they'll all stay in touch.
43:58OK, maybe we'll discuss that off-camera.
