00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine, and welcome to what might just be the trickiest 60 minutes of
00:04Telly on the Box, a game where only the coolest, the calmest, and the most well-coiffed will
00:11prevail.
00:11This is Celebrity Puzzling!
00:30Hello, welcome to Celebrity Puzzling. Now, we don't have a show without some team captains, and
00:34just look at what the cat's dragged in. She's quicker off the mark than Usain Bolt, the people's
00:42princess of puzzling. Carol Vorderman, herself in person, and competing with her tonight,
00:49the yin to her yang. She thinks fast, she plays hard. It's Sally Lindsay, amazing actor. And
00:58I'm not just here to make up the numbers. No, Carol, that wasn't a long multiplication
01:01gag. Here are our celebrity guests. With Carol, we have a beloved actor who claims to be a
01:07bit of a daredevil, and that's lucky, because round one is solving anagrams while being fired
01:11out of a cannon. We didn't tell you. We didn't tell you that. Nina Wadia. Sally's plus one
01:18tonight is a comedian whose name is Kane, but is he able? We're about to find out. Russell
01:23Kane is here. He loves to puzzle. Anyway, Nina, I mentioned daredevil. I've just discovered
01:30this about you. Oh. Where was your most recent daredeviling? Oh, gosh, it's been a while, but
01:35my last one would have been Sao Paulo, uh, jumping off just the mountain next to Sugarloaf and
01:42hang gliding. I was going to say, you were, you had some form of support. Yeah, I love it.
01:46Scared. Were you strapped to a Brazilian? Of course I was. That's every reason I did it. I'm
01:50talking about the actual event. Sorry, that wasn't about the evening's entertainment. There
01:56was a Brazilian involved. Yes, the thing was, he was six foot two and he said to me, in a
02:01very, very thick sort of Portuguese accent, he went, so he goes, when I say run, run, when
02:06I say jump, jump, and I went, is that it? He goes, yes, let's go, and he jumped off the
02:10mountain.
02:10Oh, wow. So now, Russell, you are a man of many parts. I know you love to puzzle, so
02:16watch out for him, Nina. Oh, no. He writes children's books, he writes grown-up novels,
02:22he does his, you've been touring for, goodness knows how long? I've never done two years, 18
02:27months is enough, because obviously with stand-up, there's a spine of 45, 50 minutes of spine
02:32of the show that's the same, and I do 80 minutes, but after two years, saying the same thing.
02:36This is what gets me about stand-up. I mean, you can't do, well, some comedians,
02:40the whole 80 minutes will be almost identical, yeah. I adapt much better to different countries,
02:46because my stuff's like cultural observations, and I wanted to set myself the challenge of
02:50tour in a country where no British comedian had toured before, so I put some suggestions
02:54online, and a guy went, well, come to the Cayman Islands, we've never had anyone here,
02:58and I called his bluff, and I went, if you get the room, I'll come, and he called my bluff,
03:03licensed a 500-seater, Cayman Islands. I went and played the Cayman Islands, and it was amazing.
03:08I had to accidentally stay for seven days, tax deductible, legally, nothing they can do.
03:13Well, good luck to you both tonight.
03:14In each episode, our teams will face a selection of puzzles so random, even I haven't been told
03:19what's coming, although I did skip rehearsals to go to hot yoga.
03:23Changing it up like this means no ball two contests are ever to say.
03:27It's our player's job to simply win as many points as possible. We do have to point that out.
03:31We can then sometimes see it turning on the final round, which is called Answer Bank,
03:36and then if you win, this is going to excite you no end. These are so precious.
03:42Oh, I love it.
03:42Then the short way of describing it, the celebrity puzzling, puzzling cube.
03:47They are brought around in Group 4 security vans, but I have one here, and it will be yours
03:54if you win.
03:54Right, now I must win.
03:56And there's endless fun twisting it. It works, just to say, it's not a demonstration model.
04:02The sweet spot is Sally's smile, Carol's chin, Jeremy's head.
04:06There's one particular combination that can't be shown on television.
04:08No, absolutely not.
04:10Scares the children.
04:12Let's get this show on the road with round one.
04:15Our celebs are about to get hot under the collar as they face the heat map.
04:21So this is how the heat map works. For each puzzle in this round, the players have shown an image
04:25of a QWERTY keyboard.
04:27Above the keyboard is a category, so here it's Italian bread.
04:30The letters in the answer are highlighted on the keyboard.
04:33All the others are grey.
04:34What's more, the letters are colour-coded as follows.
04:37If the letter features in the answer just once, it appears green.
04:40Oh, you've already got it.
04:41Okay.
04:42If it's twice, it's orange.
04:44Three or more is red.
04:46Go on, you said...
04:46Focaccia.
04:47Focaccia, says Nina.
04:48Oh, we've got a contest on here.
04:52So Sally and Russell are up first, and this is your first puzzle for two points.
04:57Category, Doctor Who actress.
04:59I don't know, no clue.
05:00The eye is in it at least three times.
05:06Yeah.
05:07Go on.
05:07Billy Piper.
05:09Oh, okay.
05:10You think Billy Piper.
05:11Let's see.
05:14I haven't watched Doctor Who, I just noticed she's in it.
05:17Carol and Nina, here's your first one.
05:19Okay, we can talk.
05:20The category is radio programme.
05:22Jeremy Vine show.
05:24Might be better at this, yeah.
05:26There's no other show.
05:27So the three, S and the D are in it three times at least.
05:31Okay, at least.
05:32At least, okay.
05:35Desert.
05:38Oh, yes.
05:39Did you think?
05:40Desert Island Discs.
05:43Yes.
05:43Okay.
05:44I think that's good.
05:44Yeah, Desert Island Discs.
05:46Desert Island Discs.
05:48Is that right?
05:50Yeah.
05:51Yeah.
05:51This is going to be a vicious battle, this.
05:53Sally and Russell, here's yours.
05:56Mythical Creature.
05:58A and N are in it at least three times.
06:00Mythical Creature.
06:04Not mine at all.
06:05No.
06:08Mythical Creature.
06:11Three Ns.
06:12Is it the Abominable Snowman?
06:14At least three Ns.
06:16Abominable.
06:17Ah, you're correct.
06:19Is it the Abominable...
06:20I can't say.
06:20Abominable.
06:22Abominable Snowman.
06:23Snowman.
06:24Is it the Abominable Snowman?
06:27You're good.
06:29That was absolutely brilliant.
06:32Carol and Nina, here's your next one.
06:36Flightless Bird.
06:37Me.
06:39Sally, Lindsay.
06:41E is in it at least three times.
06:43Oh, wow, this is hard.
06:47Flightless Bird.
06:49No, it can't be Penguin, can it?
06:51Something Penguin.
06:52Something Penguin.
06:53Emperor Penguin.
06:54Oh, yes, yes, because, yes, Emperor Penguin.
06:56Emperor Penguin, is that the answer?
07:03Penguins generally are flightless or not?
07:06Some can fly.
07:07Well, they dive, don't they?
07:08Yeah.
07:08I can't fly.
07:09If they really practice, would they be able to fly?
07:11That would be a democratically elected penguin.
07:13Yeah, okay.
07:14Russell and Sally, here's your next one.
07:18Tourist Destination.
07:20Oh, I'm in heck.
07:21So the R is in it at least three times.
07:23Is it sort of a name?
07:26We've got the V, A, Vacation.
07:28No, we haven't got it.
07:31We've got two E's, two I's, three R's.
07:36Three R's?
07:39Oh!
07:39Go on.
07:41No.
07:43No, it was a complete lie.
07:44My brain was tricking me.
07:46I was going to say...
07:46We'll need an answer.
07:47...Falls or something like that.
07:49I've got no clue.
07:50I just can't...
07:51Somewhere Really Famous.
07:53Is it the...
07:55I need an answer, please.
07:57No, sorry.
07:58All right.
07:59Nothing at all.
08:00OK.
08:01Carol and Nina, you can steal the point.
08:04French Riviera.
08:05French Riviera, does that work?
08:08Oh!
08:10Come on, Nina.
08:12We've got a game on here, haven't we?
08:14So Carol and Nina, you stole successfully.
08:18Carol and Nina, your next puzzle.
08:20Oh.
08:20It's really hard, this girl.
08:22Comedia!
08:24He'll know.
08:25Just say it out loudly so we can steal that.
08:29Three A's.
08:30Gosh.
08:30OK, Ken Dodd, Les Dawson.
08:32I'm going old.
08:33Time here.
08:35It's not...
08:36Miranda?
08:37No, M, no, there's no.
08:38No.
08:39No.
08:40Maisie?
08:41Can you say something?
08:41I don't know, Maisie.
08:42Hang on, D-A-M-I-E.
08:45Dami, Dami, I don't know how to say it.
08:47OK, we do know that.
08:48No, don't know, don't know.
08:49So, nothing that works from you.
08:52What about Russell and Sally?
08:53Well, I didn't have it, so you helpfully said the word Maisie.
08:56Maisie, yeah.
08:56And the solution is Maisie Adam, I believe.
08:58Let's have a look.
08:59Maisie Adam.
09:00Thank you for that.
09:02Good.
09:03Well done to Russell.
09:05At the end of that round of heat maps, Sally and Russell have got five points.
09:09Carol and Nina also have five.
09:12I'm happy.
09:14Nice to see you.
09:15What about it?
09:16Are you beating our celebrities at home?
09:17For our next round, we need to take our first trip across to the letterbox.
09:20There, they'll still face perplexing puzzles, but they'll do it in the relative comfort of competing one team at a
09:27time.
09:27Going first, Sally and Russell.
09:29And the game you're playing tonight is thirdle.
09:33So, I'll show you how this works.
09:35You see three words, each with the third letter missing, and you need to fill in the missing letters using
09:40the tiles provided to spell a new word vertically.
09:43So, hang on, what would it be?
09:45Sable?
09:46Sable.
09:46Maybe.
09:47Sable and broad.
09:48Brood.
09:49Brood.
09:49Brood, okay.
09:51And size.
09:52So, B-O-G, bog.
09:53Let's see if that's right.
09:54Yeah.
09:55Correct.
09:56Yeah.
09:56Is sable a colour?
09:57Is it type of leather?
09:58Or what is it?
09:59It's a colour, isn't it?
10:00It's a brown.
10:01It's a brownie colour.
10:02Sable's a kind of fur, is it?
10:03Yeah.
10:04In the Burmese cat world, it describes a colour.
10:06Oh, thank you.
10:07As I have a cat breed book out, I don't know if I've mentioned it.
10:09No, no, no.
10:10You actually haven't yet.
10:11You're against the clock.
10:12You'll score three points if you solve the puzzle.
10:14And you've got one full alphabet to play with.
10:16So, Sally and Russell, head on over to the Letterboxd to play Thirdle.
10:21Woo!
10:23Sally and Russell, hit that button when you've completed it.
10:26Here is your first Thirdle.
10:27Your time starts now.
10:30OK.
10:31Bars.
10:32Bars.
10:33Bars?
10:34Oh.
10:34Bars.
10:34No, what is it?
10:36Babes.
10:36Babes.
10:37Babes.
10:38OK.
10:39No, that can't...
10:39Was it rapid?
10:40So, that can't be babes.
10:41Yeah.
10:42Is it rapid?
10:42Is it rapid?
10:43What's this?
10:44What are you, Russell?
10:44Foyer.
10:45Foyer.
10:46So, that's a Y.
10:47Could it be boy?
10:47Roy.
10:48Royd?
10:49No, no.
10:50What's that then?
10:50Spy?
10:51No, it can't be...
10:52It can't be...
10:53Spy?
10:54Y?
10:54Is that...
10:54What's that?
10:55S?
10:55Is that an S?
10:56Base?
10:57Bases?
10:57Bases.
10:58Bases.
10:59Soy.
11:00Is that right?
11:01Bases?
11:01Yeah, but what goes in?
11:01Spy, yeah.
11:02Yeah.
11:03Oh!
11:05I could see...
11:05You can't quite see the word there, but yeah, bases.
11:08What could we have had?
11:09Babes.
11:10Bears.
11:11Yeah, it was a big...
11:12It was a tricky one, that one.
11:13There's an off-bakes.
11:14You can have bales.
11:15The veins.
11:16We had so many veins of our lives.
11:18I thought that was quite tricky.
11:20I thought that well done.
11:21And provided spiritual support during that round.
11:23You did.
11:23You got a foyer.
11:24Yeah, I got a foyer.
11:25You got a foyer.
11:26I also thought rapid, and I thought it was rabid.
11:28I thought, oh, they've got a strong...
11:29Yeah, I do.
11:29Anyway, well done.
11:30Your second person will have four words with the third letter missing.
11:33You'll need to spell a new four-letter word vertically.
11:35It is worth four points if you're ready.
11:37Your time starts now.
11:40Manic.
11:41Manic.
11:42Manic.
11:43Manic.
11:43Manic.
11:44Bland.
11:45Bland or blind.
11:46Bland or blind.
11:47Razor.
11:48Manic, blind.
11:49Razor, yep.
11:49Razor.
12:14Manic.
12:15Manic.
12:17Manic.
12:18Manic.
12:19This is going to be the one that drives me manic.
12:20Manic.
12:20What else is that could be?
12:22Maze.
12:23Haze.
12:24Er...
12:25Oh!
12:26I think I know what happened.
12:27So what you wanted, I did, I must admit, I did see it.
12:29Magic.
12:30So sorry.
12:30Magic.
12:31It's a G.
12:31Magic.
12:32Gaze.
12:33There we go.
12:34That's the last.
12:35And then you get gaze.
12:36Listen, we smashed three out of four but you couldn't see the magic.
12:39Yeah, gaze.
12:40This is the big one.
12:41The final puzzle.
12:42Five words to solve.
12:43And you've got to spell a new five-letter word vertically.
12:46It's worth a bump of five points.
12:47Let's go.
12:48Your time starts now.
12:51Cargo.
12:51Cargo.
12:53Globe.
12:55Cater.
12:56Cater or carer.
12:57Carer.
12:57So that's cater.
12:59Hoist.
13:00Hoist.
13:01Okay.
13:02Roti.
13:03Goes well with chicken.
13:04Mouth.
13:05Yeah.
13:05Okay, that's not right, is it?
13:07So that's not right.
13:07Holst.
13:08No.
13:09So cater.
13:10What's this?
13:11I'm going to check cargo.
13:11You crack on.
13:13No, okay.
13:14Globe.
13:16Cargo.
13:16It's got to be cargo.
13:17It is cargo.
13:18Hoist.
13:19It could be glebe.
13:20Holst.
13:21I'm sure a glebe is a thing.
13:22Ten seconds.
13:23Okay, come on.
13:24Think.
13:25Hoist.
13:26Holst.
13:26Can you lock anything in here?
13:28Cater, that can change.
13:29What?
13:30Caper.
13:30Caper.
13:31Caper.
13:33Okay, we wanted caber as in the thing you toss.
13:37Robin.
13:37Robin.
13:38Caber.
13:39Robin.
13:40So cargo, globe, caber, hoist, month.
13:45Very good.
13:46That's an amazing selection of words.
13:48No idea.
13:48I'm so sorry.
13:49Pretty good effort there by Sally and Russell.
13:51It's scored them three points this trip to the letterbox.
13:54Before Carol and Nina have their turn and before we all get a little bit too carried away,
13:58I think now is a good time for a quick break.
13:59We'll see you on the other side for more celebrity puzzling after this.
14:06If you want to keep puzzling, see if you can complete the vertical word to solve this thirdle.
14:12All will be revealed after the break.
14:20Have you completed the missing word and solved this thirdle?
14:25If you did, great puzzling.
14:30Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
14:32You've made it in just the nick of time.
14:33I've tipped my hat to you.
14:34It's now over to Carol and Nina to have their turn to play thirdle.
14:38So remember, you're going to see three words, each with the third letter missing.
14:42You've got to fill in those missing letters to spell a new word vertically.
14:45You score three points if you solve this first puzzle.
14:48Carol and Nina, here's your first one.
14:50Your time starts now.
14:53Locum.
14:54C.
14:55Prude.

14:58Or Prude.
14:59How about N?
15:00And Hunch.
15:02Oh, gosh.
15:02I don't know.
15:04Hunch.
15:05There you go.
15:06Or Hutch.

15:08Ah, cut.
15:09Perfect.
15:09Well done.
15:10Cut is good.
15:11Yeah, well done.
15:13That looks good.
15:14I say well done because that looks right.
15:17Prude.
15:17Hutch.
15:19Locum.
15:20Your second puzzle will have four words with the third letter missing,
15:22and you'll need to spell a new four-letter word vertically.
15:25It's going to be worth four.
15:26So, if you're ready, your time starts now.
15:31Mucus.
15:31Why did I know that?
15:33Yes, mucus.

15:50No.
15:51Two Ts for that.
15:52Yeah.
15:52And there's no other...
15:53This is like locum, the mucus word.
15:55There's nothing else that...
15:56Yeah.
15:58I haven't even got mucus straight away.
16:00I don't know.
16:01I haven't even got mucus straight away.
16:01Oh, no.
16:02Well, your final puzzle has five words to solve.
16:05You'll need to spell a new five-letter word.
16:07It's worth a bump of five points.
16:09Let's go.
16:09Your time starts now.

16:25Oh, oh, oh, oh.
16:26Down your side.
16:27And...

16:30Dryer.
16:30And that is sent there.
16:32Okay, perfect.

16:38Oh, blimey.
16:41Celebrating advance of the moment there.
16:43That's very dangerous, yeah.
16:45What?
16:46Oh, we got it.
16:46Yeah, let's just put our feet up.
16:47No, well done.
16:48That was sent not scant.
16:50Scant, yeah.
16:50And pains.
16:52And bijou, a lovely...
16:54No alternatives on bijou, obviously.
16:55Yeah, that helps a lot, actually.
16:56Elope and Dryer.
16:57Yeah.
16:58Anyway, well done.
16:59Really, really good.
16:59Enjoy is the word.
17:01You scored top marks there.
17:02Please head back to your seats.
17:03Sure.
17:07So, how many points did you rack up playing that one?
17:09Well done, Carol and Nina.
17:11Top marks.
17:12Your visit to the letterbox scored you 12.
17:14So, now let's look at the overall scores.
17:17Sally and Russell on eight points.
17:19Yes.
17:20Carol and Nina streaking ahead on 17.
17:23Oh, my God.
17:26And Nina and Sally can't fall out too much,
17:28because you work together.
17:29Yes.
17:30On one of the classics, actually.
17:32Tell me, Sally.
17:33We worked on the reboot of Open All Hours,
17:35which was still Open All Hours.
17:37Wow.
17:37But we were the juvenile leads, weren't we?
17:39We were, yes.
17:40We were the youngins on it.
17:42So, it was me, Vegas, Johnny Vegas and Nina.
17:44The stories were incredible.
17:46Yeah, incredible.
17:46Yeah.
17:47Yeah.
17:47Do you have good memories?
17:48Because you've done some great shows.
17:50You've had EastEnders as well.
17:51My goodness.
17:52What stands out?
17:53Oh, gosh.
17:54I mean, goodness gracious me was my first love,
17:56but I loved the sketch show side of things
17:59and I thought, that's my bag
18:01and just really, really enjoyed it.
18:03We went right back to the beginning,
18:04because you were in Blind Date.
18:06Oh, no!
18:07You found that.
18:08We've got a steal.
18:09No, please.
18:10Oh, my God.
18:11Yes, my time.
18:12There she is.
18:15And I think, didn't he go on an outward bound thing
18:17with you or something?
18:18Yes, we did.
18:20That's so good.
18:21OK, so this was a challenge from drama school
18:24to see who could get on television the fastest.
18:27Anyway, I did it and I thought,
18:28please don't pick me,
18:29because if he picked me,
18:31then that meant that I couldn't do my final show
18:33at drama school.
18:34Oh.
18:35And he picked me and I was in trouble.
18:37Oh, no!
18:37And I missed my entire last show.
18:39Oh, my Lord.
18:40So, yeah.
18:41All right, our next puzzle requires our celebrities
18:43to be at their most verbose.
18:45That won't be a problem.
18:45This is, in other words...
18:49So, I'll explain for you here.
18:51I show you the initials to the answer.
18:53Well, you'll see synonyms for that word.
18:55So, OA are the initials.
18:57Venerable, dated, ancient, time, seniority, epoch.
19:00Shout out, what do you think?
19:01Old age.
19:02Old age, OK.
19:04So, old is a synonym for venerable, dated, ancient.
19:08Yeah, exactly.
19:08Old age is the way to go.
19:10They're not all that easy.
19:12So, Carol and Nina, I'll let you start here.
19:14Here is your first in other words puzzle.
19:16Worth one point.
19:18S.B.
19:19OK.
19:20The clue words, soaked, waterlogged, saturated, underside, rear, behind.

19:49I mean, it's now spread everywhere.
19:51Yeah.
19:51Sally and Russell, here's your first.
19:54TT.
19:56Trial, assess, exam, pipe, duct, TV.

20:03You think it's test tube.
20:06Test tube.
20:07OK, test, yes, I see that.
20:10Test tube.
20:10Let's have a look.
20:12You're right as well.
20:13Hey, well done.
20:14Good stuff.
20:14Both teams playing well in this round.
20:15Carol and Nina, get fewer synonyms this time.
20:18But it's worth more points.
20:20Two points.
20:20OK.
20:22T.S.
20:22The words, plaything small, warrior, fighter.
20:26Tiny...

20:30Synonym for it.
20:32Er...

20:33Warrior.
20:34I've got it.
20:36Plaything...
20:36Toy...
20:37Toy...
20:38A fighter toy.
20:39Time running out.
20:40That doesn't make sense, Toy Story, does it?
20:43No.
20:44Teeny...
20:45Teeny tiny.
20:47Oh, gosh, no idea.
20:50Um...
20:50We need an answer.
20:52Or they can steal.
20:53I can't get the warrior fighter.
20:57Spy.
20:57Tiny spy.
20:58I don't know.
20:59Tiny spy.
21:00Can I take...
21:01Should I take that?
21:02Is it tiny spy?
21:03It's not, but...
21:04Tiny spy.
21:05We've all seen tiny spies.
21:06I think the other team know you can steal.
21:08For a point.
21:09It's toy...
21:10I'll say one word, you say the other.
21:11Toy.
21:11Do you say it?
21:12Toy soldier.
21:13Toy soldier.
21:14Of course it is!
21:17Oh!
21:18We now go to you, Sally and Russell, for two points.
21:21I can't shut up.
21:23PW, the words, quite, lovely, lady, girl.
21:33Pretty woman.
21:34Yeah.
21:35I think it's pretty woman.
21:37Pretty woman?
21:38Yeah.
21:39Yes.
21:39That's really good.
21:41Oh, I see.
21:43I couldn't get pretty from quite, but now I see.
21:45Yes, it's pretty silly.
21:46Pretty woman.
21:46It's pretty good.
21:47Yeah, yeah.
21:47Yes, I've got it.
21:48Carol and Nina just one synonym per word.
21:50The trickiest yet, but it's worth three points.
21:54I'm not going to move.
21:54Look at this.
21:55There's nothing to say.
21:56Carol's fluent in eyebrow.
21:57No gap between the teams.
21:59Here we go.
22:00Oh, dear.
22:01TB.
22:03Genuine.
22:04Sad.
22:10True blue.
22:11Oh, beautiful.
22:13Well done.
22:13True blue.
22:14True blue.
22:14You were just, like, it just rolled out on you.
22:16Just...
22:18Yeah, let's see if that's the right answer.
22:20True blue, says Carol.
22:22It is true blue.
22:24That was brilliant.
22:25They're hard to shake off.
22:26Sally and Russell, your turn.
22:28Worth three points.
22:29Oh.
22:30We need this.
22:31BB.
22:32You need it.
22:32Claret, Monks.
22:34Ordo.
22:35Claret as Bordeaux is the same thing.
22:37I don't know if that's right.
22:38Or Burgundy.
22:39Er...
22:40Monk can only mean...
22:43Erm...
22:43Brother.
22:44Brother.
22:45Brother.
22:46Blood brother.
22:47Blood brother.
22:47Blood brother.
22:48You say blood brother.
22:50Mm-hmm.
22:50Blood brothers.
22:51Yeah, Clara.
22:52Blood brothers.
22:52Blood brothers.
22:53As in the play.
22:54I see.
22:55The musical.
22:56Let's see if it's right.
22:57Yes, you're right.
22:58Well done.
22:59That was brilliant.
23:00That's good.
23:01So, Claret, the blood colour.
23:04It's in my dialect as well.
23:05I don't know if I didn't get it.
23:06Claret.
23:06When people are saying that, he's clareting out all over the place.
23:09Oh, it's claret everywhere, mate.
23:10It's all right, man.
23:10It's claret everywhere.
23:11Is that a phrase?
23:12Claret all over the deck.
23:14Never heard that yet.
23:16Yeah, well...
23:16I mean, obviously...
23:17Come in my money, I'll be in it pretty quick.
23:20How did you get on at home?
23:21Are you giving our celebrities a run for their money?
23:23At the end of that round, Sally and Russell have got 15.
23:26Carol and Nina scored 21.
23:29Yeah.
23:30It's getting closer!
23:33And it's a very, very tight contest.
23:36That's it for part two of Celebrity Puzzling.
23:38We'll be back for more after this short break.
23:40See you in a moment.
23:42Have a go at this up or down puzzle.
23:44Move one letter, one place up or down in the alphabet
23:47to solve the clue and reveal the answer.
23:50Choose wisely.
23:57Here's the solution to your up or down puzzle.
24:01If you got this answer, well done.
24:06Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
24:08By now we're starting to get the measure of our two teams
24:10who should be walking tall and who is coming up short.
24:13In this next game, our guest celebrities will clash one-on-one
24:17without the team captains helping or occasionally hindering their play.
24:21As Nina takes on Russell at up or down.
24:25Here's how it works.
24:27You're going to see a clue plus a series of letters on the screen.
24:29Each letter has been moved either up or down by one step.
24:32It's fiendish, OK?
24:34So we could see here Q must be either P or R
24:40because it's either the letter before or after in the alphabet.
24:43B is going to have to be either A or C.
24:47Now you've already got the clue landing aid up there.
24:49Do you want to give it a go?
24:50No idea.
24:51R, A, C, H, U, T, E.
24:56Yeah, and by that stage you've already buzzed.
24:59You should know this.
24:59So it's just the example.
25:00But that's how it works.
25:02Parachute is the answer.
25:03OK, hope you got that at home.
25:05You've seen how it works.
25:06There are five to solve.
25:07It is our guests playing each other.
25:09That's why it's very exciting for us.
25:11Nina and Russell, here's your first one.
25:13On the buzzer, please.
25:14Four-letter word.
25:15The clue.
25:16Martial art.
25:20Russell!
25:21Judo.
25:22Is it judo?
25:24There's only one martial arts with four letters.
25:25Yes.
25:26I didn't even look at that.
25:27There you go.
25:28I see.
25:28I see how you did that.
25:30OK.
25:31He's fast.
25:32Fingers on buzzers.
25:33Fingers on buzzers.
25:34Second one for you.
25:35At least I didn't get nothing.
25:38Four letters again.
25:39US state.
25:41Four-letter words.
25:44Russell.
25:45Ohio.
25:46Let's see.
25:47Is it Ohio?
25:49Ah, your chance to steal, Nina.
25:51Utah.
25:53Let's see.
25:53Utah looks better.
25:56Is it Utah?
25:56Utah.
25:56Yes, well done.
25:58Utah.
26:00Here is your next one.
26:05Six letters.
26:06Cosy clothing.
26:14Russell.
26:15Onesie.
26:16Onesie.
26:17Is that the answer?
26:19Very good.
26:20Well done.
26:21Are you doing this without looking at the letters?
26:24Initially, yeah.
26:25I'm just thinking of a five-letter word that means that and then I check it with the letter.
26:27If I look at the letters, I can't get it.
26:29It's working.
26:30Action stations.
26:31Time for another.
26:31Up against Nina.
26:33Here we go.
26:34Six letters.
26:35Astronomy.
26:41Okay.
26:41Planet.
26:43Planet.
26:45Is it planet?
26:46Oh, it is.
26:47Oh, wow.
26:49Well done.
26:50Okay.
26:50Last one.
26:51This is it.
26:52He's copying this.
26:54Anyway.
26:56It's nine letters, then it's an insect.
26:59Just got to move them up or down in the alphabet.
27:04Some go up, some go down.
27:09Ah, got it.
27:10Nina.
27:12Dragonfly.
27:12Yeah.
27:13Dragonfly, she says.
27:14Let's have a look.
27:18Well done.
27:19I got it at the same second there.
27:20I'll tell you what, the Zs are doing some heavy lifting in this game.
27:23It is the real...
27:24I got the first bit and...
27:26Oh, never mind.
27:26Yeah, yeah.
27:27You're spelling it through, aren't you?
27:29Yes, I am, yeah.
27:29Yeah, yeah.
27:29Where did that leave you, Russell?
27:31Were you still doing...
27:32I've refined my technique.
27:33Yes.
27:34I just listen to what you say and only look at the first letter because then I'm looking
27:37for an insect that starts with D or...
27:39That's clever.
27:40Yeah.
27:40Why have I told you that?
27:41Well, it doesn't matter now because the round is over.
27:44I can't.
27:44That's the thing.
27:45I'm...
27:46I just go straight to the letters.
27:47I don't know.
27:48Yeah.
27:48So, Nina scored three.
27:50Russell scored six.
27:52Wow, well done, Russell.
27:53Very good.
27:53And the totals for each team.
27:55This is so interesting.
27:57Sally and Russell have 21.
27:59Carol and Nina have 24.
28:01Oh!
28:02Good round.
28:03Good round.
28:04These two are starting to motor.
28:07Listen out for the afterburners.
28:09If you're playing at home.
28:10Did you solve it?
28:11Hope so.
28:12Well done if you did.
28:12Let's see what the next game is going to be.
28:14Keep your eyes peeled.
28:15It is word flash.
28:19I'll show you how it works.
28:21In this round, you're given a category followed by some of the answer.
28:25Your job is to fill in the full answer.
28:27So, here we go, for example.
28:28Give us a go.
28:29Food.
28:29And you see the letters coming in and out as they gradually populate the grey squares.
28:34So, food.
28:35And we know it's a three-letter word and a three-letter word.
28:38Oh, rum and raisin something or other.
28:40Ice cream.
28:41Ice cream, it looks like.
28:43Yes, OK.
28:44That's right.
28:45Rum and raisin ice cream.
28:46Yeah, you got it.
28:47That's it.
28:48OK, time to play.
28:49Carol, Nina, Russell, Sally, here we go.
28:52Here's your first one.
28:53On the buzzers.
28:54Railway station.
28:55OK.
28:59Six.
29:03Nine letters.
29:05And then six letters.
29:07Railway station.
29:08Watch the letters go in and out.
29:12You see some, then you see others.
29:13Oh, gosh, yes, Russell.
29:15London, Liverpool Street.
29:16London, Liverpool Street, he says.
29:18Is it correct?
29:19London in front of it.
29:21Yeah.
29:21Is it London, Liverpool Street?
29:23Fingers on buzzers.
29:24Here's the next one.
29:26Right.
29:26Right.
29:27US President.
29:28OK.
29:31Four letters.
29:38We've got three words.
29:40The second word is a long word.
29:45Nina.
29:48John Fitzgerald.
29:49No, no.
29:50Oh, what's his...
29:51Oh.
29:52Oh.
29:53No, you're buzzed out, I'm afraid.
29:56You can steal.
29:56You can steal, but you can't see any more.
29:58I don't know any John...
30:00John...
30:00John Adams is the only John I know as a US President.
30:03John Fitzgerald Adams.
30:03I only know John Adams.
30:05John Fitzgerald Adams, then.
30:06Nothing.
30:07Gerald Adams or John Adams?
30:09John Fitzgeralds.
30:09John Fitzgeralds.
30:10No, no.
30:11This is weird, because when you say JF, I think it's John...
30:14JFK!
30:14Well, I don't know.
30:15Let's have a look, though.
30:17Let's have a look.
30:18It is, yeah.
30:19JFK, yeah.
30:21JFK.
30:22Yeah.
30:22We don't often talk about the Fitzgerald, but that's it.
30:24The middle 90s.
30:24Sorry.
30:25Get ready.
30:26Here's the next one.
30:27Dog breathe.
30:28Oh, Russell loves these.
30:31Four letters.
30:35Seven letters.
30:36And seven.
30:37Three words.
30:38Watch the letters come in and out.
30:40See if it fills it in for you.
30:44Russell.
30:45King Charles Spaniel.
30:46Is he really going to be right this early?
30:49He should be Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, really.
30:50King Charles Spaniel.
30:52Cavalier King.
30:53You like Cavalier?
30:54Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the full name, actually.
30:57Because we should put London King Charles Spaniel.
30:59Yeah, exactly.
31:00They're actually two slightly separate breeds.
31:03One of them's got a more domed skull.
31:05Which one?
31:05One's got Cavalier and one...
31:07I can't remember the difference, but one was crossbred with a Japanese cheese dog.
31:10So, is the King Charles Spaniel a thing?
31:12It is, yeah, it's a thing, but there's two of them that have very similar names.
31:15And that's the mainstream one that everyone owns.
31:17OK, that's the Cavalier King Charles.
31:18OK, action stations.
31:19Time for another.
31:22Tolkien.
31:23Yes.
31:24Now we're Tolkien.
31:26Russell.
31:27Go on.
31:28The return of the king.
31:29Is he right this early?
31:31Seeing one and a half words.
31:32Is it the return of the king?
31:34You're a good quizzer.
31:36Nerd.
31:36Wow.
31:37Dungeons and Dragons.
31:38No.
31:39I told you what...
31:40I told you what happens with this guy.
31:42The return of the king.
31:42The return of the king.
31:44The return of the king.
31:45You're so good.
31:46It's what he loves.
31:47Come on, Carol, Nina.
31:49Pull it back here.
31:50Here is the next one for you.
31:52Carol.
31:54V-O-R.
31:55No.
31:56Three letters.
31:58Four letters.
31:58Two letters.
32:00Five.
32:01Oh!
32:02Nina.
32:03God rest ye merry gentlemen.
32:05Is it really that?
32:06God rest ye merry gentlemen.
32:10Can it...
32:11Well, again, well done.
32:13Well done.
32:13If you got that before we even have the fifth word out there.
32:17We've had high scoring rounds.
32:18It combined high score, this might be really something, this game.
32:22Very good.
32:22Because we don't get above 50 very often if you want to set yourselves a target.
32:25So the final one now.
32:27Actor.
32:28Ugh.
32:29Actor.
32:34Six.
32:35Six.
32:35And Russell?
32:36Robert Downey Jr.
32:38Robert...
32:38I don't know how you see this.
32:39Yes.
32:40Robert Downey Jr.
32:41Is it Robert Downey Jr. as an actor?
32:44Yes.
32:46Lovely.
32:46Look at that.
32:47I've found my hack.
32:49I play in reverse.
32:49I just look for an actor that has that letter in it and I don't get drawn into your horrific
32:54grid.
32:55No, but you know, I do that so I can't do it.
32:57But at the end of that round, Carol and Nina have 26 points.
33:02Sally and Russell have 29.
33:04Wow!
33:08I just know it's all going to be on the answer bank and I know the answer bank at the
33:11end
33:12is going to be ferocious.
33:13So, time for our penultimate round.
33:14Once again, both of our clever couplings will head over to the letterbox.
33:18This time, the fastest team to solve their puzzle will snag two bonus points.
33:22Let us play Fernandrum.
33:25APPLAUSE
33:26So, we see how this works.
33:27You will see three anagrams, each a letter longer than the one before.
33:31I sort of love this game.
33:32You must rearrange the tiles to solve the five-letter anagram first.
33:35You want to give us a go on this?
33:37Nappy.
33:37Nappy, OK.
33:38Second one, then.
33:40Commit.
33:41How about that?
33:42Commit.
33:42Commit.
33:43Then the third one, anyone on that?
33:46Hmm.
33:48Swimming.
33:50Wigwams?
33:51Wigwams!
33:52Wigwams!
33:53Wigwams!
33:53Very good!
33:54I've never seen more than one of the...
33:56Wigwams is not a...
33:57I've never seen more than one!
33:58No, you can...
33:59You can't have a plural.
34:01As ever you'll be against the clock.
34:03So, as soon as you've solved the third anagram, you must hit the button to stop the clock.
34:06You'll score two points per solved word.
34:08If you complete all three anagrams faster than your opponents, you'll receive two bonus points.
34:13Sally and Russell, you're leading.
34:14Please head over to the letterbox to face your fenundrum.
34:22As soon as you solve the third fenundrum, hit the button to stop the clock.
34:25Your time starts now.
34:27OK.
34:28Erm...
34:28Right.
34:30Mmm...
34:30Cabal?
34:31Cabal.
34:32Cable.
34:32Cable.
34:33Cable.
34:35It's this way around, I think, innit?
34:36Cable's good, yeah.
34:37Cable's a word.
34:38Well done, goes green.
34:39Great.
34:39Nobody.
34:40Nobody.
34:41Nobody doesn't have an E in it, does it?
34:42Oh, no, it doesn't.
34:44No.
34:45Ah.
34:47Er...
34:48Oh, that's a point.
34:49Let's get rid of that one.
34:50Mmm.
34:51Duh.
34:52Bode.
34:53B-O-D.
34:55Er...
34:55N-Y.
34:56N-Y.
34:56N-Y.
34:57Boyd.
34:57N-Y.
35:00Er...
35:01Is it...
35:02Er...
35:02Mmm.
35:03So, N-Y, it's not N-Y.
35:04Beyonce.
35:05Oh, no.
35:05Ah!
35:06It's not Beyonce.
35:07I actually saw that then, I was so sure.
35:09Like, bygone?
35:10No.
35:11Bygone.
35:11Is it by...
35:12No.
35:12No, it can't be.
35:13Biden.
35:15Er...
35:16Er...
35:17We've got to keep moving.
35:18Er...
35:19Er...
35:22E on...
35:23It doesn't start with an E or something weird like that, is it?
35:2520 seconds left.
35:28Er...
35:28Who?
35:30Is it again?
35:31On.
35:31N-Y.
35:32On-D.
35:33On-D.
35:34It'll come really, really up.
35:35Bendy.
35:36Body.
35:38Five seconds.
35:40I see it there.
35:42There's the answer, N-M-L.
35:43Er...
35:44I think I see beyond there.
35:45Beyond.
35:45Beyond.
35:46One step beyond...
35:48Er...
35:48It was beyond your powers of whatever there, because it was just...
35:52Because actually, you know what, when you see a Y, it's got to go at the end, right?
35:57And beyond...
35:58How many words have a Y in the middle?
36:00Now, let's have a look.
36:00Anyone?
36:01Want to have a go at that?
36:02Sand something.
36:03What's the opposite of wife?
36:04Husband.
36:05Husband.
36:06Yeah.
36:06I think that's it.
36:09Husband.
36:11Yeah.
36:12Husband.
36:12There we go.
36:13That would have been...
36:13Yeah.
36:14Husband.
36:15Beyond cable.
36:16All right.
36:17Sally and Russell, well done.
36:18You scored two points there.
36:19Unfortunately, you didn't complete all three, so you miss out on the bonus points, which
36:23means they can get the bonus points if they complete their puzzle.
36:25Right.
36:26Before they have a go at Fernandrum, we'll take our final break, so please join us in a
36:30few minutes, and if I'm not here when you get back, please send help, because I may
36:33be stuck in the loo.
36:35We'll see you in a moment for more celebrity puzzling.
36:41Why don't you try unscrambling this Fernandrum during the ads?
36:45All will be revealed after the break.
36:55Did you successfully solve this Fernandrum?
36:58If you did, great job.
37:03Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling, the show with just two rules for our celebrities.
37:07One, solve as many puzzles as you can.
37:10And two, if you can't solve the puzzles, you won't be asked back.
37:14Carol and Nina, it's now your turn to face the Fernandrum.
37:18You'll have three new anagrams to solve.
37:20You saw what happened just then with Sally and with Russell.
37:23You've got to solve them in order.
37:25Sally and Russell failed to complete all three, so there's a little bit of a way in for you
37:30now.
37:31Let us see you go.
37:32Good luck.
37:32Your time starts now.
37:34Human.
37:36Straight there with human.
37:38Very good.
37:40Y at the end.
37:41Yes.
37:42Pacify.
37:43Pacify.
37:44Yes.
37:44Pacify.
38:00Pacify.

38:01No.
38:01Let's start with L.
38:03S-L.
38:04S-L.
38:06Slumpy.
38:07No.
38:09Slime.
38:09Something pie.
38:11No.
38:12Start with L.
38:14Is there such a word as lumpies?
38:16Plump.
38:17Plump.
38:18Hang on.
38:18P-L-U-M.
38:19No.
38:20Plump.
38:21It's not going green.

38:25I'm.
38:26Something slime.

38:37Please.
38:37P-L-I-E-S.
38:39Can you solve the last one?
38:41No.
38:43Frantically trying.
38:43S-L-I-M.
38:44You're right.
38:44Something S-L-I-M.
38:45Um.
38:46Lip S-L-I-M.
38:47Uh.
38:48Liz.
38:49Oh.
38:52Oh.
38:53Let's have a look.
38:54You had lumpies and other words that...
38:57We had lumpies.
38:58We had lumpies.
38:58In a way, the problem is it's actually a selection of letters which is quite useful.
39:02But one of the words you can do...
39:04Impulse.
39:04Is impulse there.
39:06Yeah.
39:07We had the wrong impulse.
39:09Impulse.
39:10Impulse.
39:10Pacify.
39:11Human.
39:12Well, well, well.
39:12We tried.
39:13Well, you...
39:14But this makes the last round really exciting because I suspect the scores are very, very
39:19tiny.
39:19They are.
39:20Impulse.
39:21Pacify.
39:21Human were the three we were looking for.
39:22You got two out of three.
39:23Please head back to your seats.
39:24Wow.
39:30So, Carol and Nina, you managed to add four points to your score.
39:33That means going into the final, the overall scores are Carol and Nina on 30.
39:38Yay!
39:40Sally and Russell on 31.
39:42Yay!
39:43So, it really does come down to this, our final round.
39:47It is Answer Bank.
39:51Carol and Nina, you've got a tiny bit of catching up to do but not much.
39:55It's all to play for, obviously.
39:57In a moment, I'm going to show you a grid of 12 words.
39:59I'll then ask questions against the clock, buzz in and give me the correct answer, which
40:03could be lateral.
40:04If an answer has more than one word, you must give all the corresponding words in the correct
40:08order.
40:09Yeah.
40:09You'll score a point per word so it could add up to winning or losing the whole show on
40:14this.
40:14Yes.
40:14Let's reveal all the words on the Answer Bank.
40:17God, plum, board, superior, cake, fairy, walk, spell, nature, sugar, mother, jaffa.

42:57Sally and Russell have 42.
43:01Carol and Nina have 45.
43:06Oh, what a great day.
43:08I was watching, you flip backwards and forwards several times, you know, who was leading during
43:14that.
43:15The incredible thing is, in the last three questions, with three questions to go, you guys
43:19were leading, and you made seven points in the last three questions.
43:24Sugarplum fairy.
43:25That was very valuable.
43:26Three points.
43:27Yeah.
43:27That's it.
43:28So, those last three just took you past them.
43:30Well done.
43:31Well done, Nina.
43:31Your first time, Nina.
43:32Have you enjoyed it?
43:33I've loved it.
43:34Never wanted to do it again, but I've loved it.
43:37We're going to have you back.
43:38I'm so sorry.
43:39And Nina, as the winning guest celebrity, you will get the puzzling cube to take home
43:43with you.
43:46And if you could, I know you're doing a lot of TV at the moment, if you could smuggle
43:49that in, maybe a serious role, and you just go, what's that?
43:52That would be fantastic.
43:54What's that?
43:55So easily do that in a drama, can't you?
43:57You could easily.
43:58Yes.
43:59Definitely.
43:59She wouldn't know this.
44:00Definitely.
44:00So that's for you.
