00:00At 17 minutos past one this morning, Mr. Bobby Sands, the IRA MP for Manor South Tyrone, died.
00:07His mother and sister were at his bedside with a priest during the final hours.
00:10They, along with other members of the family, drove quickly and without comment away from the maze shortly afterwards.
00:17Minutes later, Northern Ireland Secretary Humphrey Atkins issued a brief statement,
00:21saying Bobby Sands had taken his own life by refusing food and medical attention for 66 days.
00:29The response in Belfast was immediate and violent.
00:32The Falls Road was closed off by rioters and petrol bombs were hurled in large numbers at the security forces
00:38who moved in to try to contain the situation.
00:40This response to Bobby Sands' death was expected and planned to be made by both sides,
00:45but some rioters were obviously unskilled in petrol bombing.
00:47Use the bomb, use the bomb.
00:49Hold it, I got it.
00:50Stop it.
00:54Good luck.
00:55Yeah!
00:58As the news of the death in the maze spread, more Catholics took to the streets
01:01and more petrol bombs and rocks flew at the army and police.
01:05Direct hits called for a tactical withdrawal.
01:16An armoured personnel carrier was brought in to move vehicles being used as barricades
01:20only to be met by more petrol bombs.
01:31Another attempt was made to clear the road, this time at high speed.
01:51But still, the rioters wanted the Falls Road barricaded and another van was moved across it.
01:56Attempts were made to set it on fire before the youths decided to make it harder to move
02:00by turning it on its side.
02:10The army replied with plastic bullets fired down the falls from the Springfield Road Junction.
02:23In the side streets, too, smaller battles were taking place.
02:38Large grabbers were brought in to clear some of the wreckage while the rioters were kept at bay by the
02:42security forces.
02:53There was trouble in virtually every Catholic area of West Belfast, with fires and barricades dotted everywhere.
02:59But by dawn, the worst was over.
03:01Three civilians were injured during the night.
03:03One of them is seriously hurt.
03:10This morning, the city is relatively quiet, as the clearing up starts and an assessment of the damage is made.
03:18And the demonstrations this morning have been peaceful ones,
03:21as Republicans remember there are still three others on hunger strike.
03:25One of them has been a long time, as they can be filled with a fire.
03:29One of them has pronounced arch and it is not difficult to do with the invasion of the world,
03:31but we don't have to wear it from our open way.
03:32Alright, let's go away and see how the rioters is.
03:32And doing this, they can't fight it.
03:32Make it a fire department of fire department,
