An unemployed Myanmar national, Aung Tun Ngwa, 26, was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (May 5) with murdering his ex-wife, Merry Yet Ngwa, 33, in front of a condominium block in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya on April 23.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

00:33The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code,
00:38which upon conviction carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years
00:43and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
00:46The court fixed July 31 for mention.
00:48Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Masus was reported on April 24
00:54as saying that his department had received information that a Myanmar woman had died,
00:59believed to have been stabbed by her ex-husband.
01:02An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.
