00:00Cop star Britney Spears accepted a plea deal today in connection with her DUI charge after an arrest back in
00:06March.
00:07Spears was not required to attend today's hearing.
00:09One of her lawyers appeared before a California judge on her behalf and entered a guilty plea to a lesser
00:15reckless driving charge.
00:17The singer was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence on March 4th.
00:22She voluntarily checked herself into a rehab facility in April before she checked herself out last week.
00:28Joining us now is NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz.
00:31Liz, walk us through what Spears will have to do as part of this whole plea deal.
00:35Well, hey, guys. Yeah, so she did plead guilty to this reduced charge of what is called a wet reckless
00:42here in California.
00:43That's because this is her first offense of a DUI.
00:47She will have to serve one year probation as part of this plea deal.
00:51And one day in jail, which she's already completed from when she was arrested back in March,
00:57She also will have to do a three month alcohol education program and she has to meet once a week
01:04with a psychologist and meet twice a month with a psychiatrist.
01:09She also is going to be prohibited from driving with any intoxicant in her system.
01:15And if she is stopped while driving, she's essentially waived her rights to any kind of privacy in this case.
01:21She must agree to alcohol and drug testing there.
01:24And she also has to agree to having her car searched.
01:27Again, all of this stemming from that DUI charge going back to early March in Ventura County here in Southern
01:34California, the county where she lives, guys.
