00:01Colors are really, really important.
00:04They are a very powerful tool in order to change spaces.
00:09Probably everybody would think that in a small apartment
00:12you have to use bright colors,
00:14but here we did the opposite strategy.
00:17We used a dark color.
00:19The main idea was to concentrate all the storage
00:22in a big box in the middle of the house.
00:25In that way we could liberate the perimeter of the apartment
00:29so you feel it's much bigger.
00:39The apartment is located in Sol,
00:41a very popular tourist area in the city centre of Madrid.
00:49This building was built in 1905
00:51and it's a residential building.
00:53My client is Dani and she's a retired French woman.
00:57She was looking for a quiet place to live in
01:01where she could receive many guests and her children.
01:06The main influence for the design of this apartment was Le Corbusier,
01:11this French architect of the 30s
01:14that has a very precise style
01:17and at the same time very sophisticated.
01:20It was a very dark space when we came for the first time.
01:25Most of the colors were brown and grey.
01:29There was a tiny living area,
01:33a kitchen, a bathroom and a very small bedroom.
01:37We demolished the whole apartment
01:40and then we built a big blue box
01:43and around it we built the living room
01:47connected to the kitchen
01:48and then the opposite side the bedroom.
01:54Upon entering the house there is a blue wall from floor to ceiling.
02:00The living space is an open plan space with the kitchen.
02:04There is a sofa that converts into a bed for when guests stay over.
02:10The room is illuminated by large windows
02:13and a pendant light from the French designer Louis Poulsen.
02:19The kitchen is U-shaped.
02:21It is a white space visually connected to the living room.
02:26There is a large sink and an electric stove.
02:30There are two floating shelves next to the window.
02:35The wall of blue furniture serves to contain the refrigerator,
02:40the oven, the microwave, the water heater
02:43and even a wine cooler.
02:47The floor to ceiling mirror helps make the room feel bigger than it is.
02:52The worktop extends to form a high table with stools
02:57where all meals are served.
03:01The windows also has automatic shutters to block out the summer heat.
03:08The bedroom is by the entrance.
03:12A mirror on the wall makes this place brighter
03:15and the client can use to check her outfit.
03:19The bedroom has natural lighting through a skylight.
03:24At the feet of the bed there is a wall-to-wall storage.
03:28It can be used to store clothes as well as other household items.
03:35The bathroom is possibly the most unique room in this apartment.
03:40It has a window to bring in the natural light from the skylight in the bedroom.
03:45The glass can change from transparent to opaque when privacy is needed.
03:52In the bedroom, when you switch on the light of the bathroom, it looks like a light box.
03:59Above the sink is a mirror with storage.
04:03The floor of the apartment is a large grey tile and it covers the whole floor of the apartment, including
04:11the bathroom.
04:12Because we wanted to make it a continuous space.
04:15By doing this, the apartment looks bigger.
04:20All the lights of the apartment are from well-known designers.
04:24For example, Charrot Perriand, which are the lights of the entrance.
04:29Or Louis Poulsen, or these three lamps, which are from Flos.
04:34Well, the main advantage of living near the city, all the facilities are very close.
04:42You have public spaces, you have cinemas, you have a very active social life, if you like it.
04:48And it's important because it makes like a kind of community with you and the rest of the world.
04:58For this remote centre, there are a small space out there for every day.
05:04The door made the doors per stage and clear space process to look well together.
05:05However, the doors for open and Deaf Gates just flowered around a majorร bee once each day.
05:05Come here!
05:05The adapter is the ізINS today.
