SynopsisAfter delivering a herd of cattle, Ben, Hoss, and Little Joe take a trip to San Francisco, but the trip takes a dark turn when two of their ranch hands are shanghaied. While attempting to find them, Ben himself gets caught up in the dangerous Barbary Coast scene and is shanghaied, destined for a ship bound for Hong Kong.

00:20Well, trail heard, delivered, top price for our beef, beautiful San Francisco weather,
00:25what more could we ask?
00:26A few days out of the saddle.
00:27By golly, we'll have that too.
00:28Listen, as a change from Hopsey's chuck wagon, I'm throwing a little supper party tonight.
00:33Oysters, steak, champagne, the works.
00:36After that, after that, five days for all of us in San Francisco with nothing to do but have a
00:40good time.
00:41Hot to go.
00:41Oh, that's what I've been waiting to hear you say.
00:43What's the matter, Johnny?
00:45Mr. Cartwright, I think you made a mistake here.
00:47I got too much pay.
00:49No, no, you haven't.
00:50You and Ham both deserve a bonus.
00:53Now, you're going to have a good time, but remember, this is not the Ponderosa in San Francisco, so be
00:57careful.
00:58Thanks, boss, but don't worry about us.
01:00After riding trail with these boys of yours, this town is going to seem downright tame.
01:05Hey, thanks a lot.
01:06Come on, Ham.
01:07Don't be late for supper.
01:10Fine boys.
01:12Well, with hands like Johnny and Ham, we won't have any trouble running the Ponderosa.
01:16Come on, let's get back to the hotel.
01:18Say some fun.
01:26Ham, I'm beginning to like this San Francisco town.
01:29You know something?
01:31You know what I'm going to do?
01:32I'm going to buy that sweet wife of mine a whole bowl of Chinese silk.
01:37Silk?
01:38You say silk?
01:39I said silk.
01:41Nothing too good for that sweet wife of mine.
01:44Gentlemen, I just happened to over here.
01:46Now, as you see by my card, I'm a silk merchant, and I just happened to have a brand new
01:51shipment
01:52from the Orient.
01:52It's the home of the silk world.
01:54Now, if you'll follow me to my establishment.
01:56Why, sure, neighbor.
02:08Yes, gentlemen, right back here.
02:10I have my shop because it's wholesale.
02:15Right this way, gentlemen.
02:19I hope Shanghai Pete takes them off my hands.
02:22That ship sails for Hong Kong at midnight.
02:24Pick them in, boys.
02:26Pick them in, boys.
02:29All right.
02:33Pick them in, boys.

10:33I'm looking for a couple of friends of mine.
10:35I thought they might have come in here.
10:36Two cowboys.
10:39Sonny, we serve out drinks here, not information.
10:43Yeah, well, I just...
10:44And you look too young to drink, so why don't you get out of here?
10:48Wait a minute.
10:49All right.
11:00All right.
11:01There are many questions being asked around here.
11:10I think I better tell Mr. Perman.
11:25Oh, Mr. Cartwright.
11:27Yes, Mr. Cartwright.
11:28Where's Horse and Little Joe?
11:29They go Barberley Coast.
11:31What?
11:31Not good.
11:32On Barberley Coast, hit, slice, cut, push.
11:35Very dangerous.
11:36Shanghai.
11:38Little Joe didn't have enough sense to know that horse should have.
11:40Why didn't you tell him?
11:41I tell him.
11:42He say he looked like fun.
11:44Looked like fun?
11:45Better find those two before they get into some real trouble.
11:49Barberley Coast.
11:51I'll say he'll go find Cousin.
11:58Joseph!
12:03Well, at least I found one of you.
12:04Now, where's your brother?
12:05Oh, he's looking for Hampton, Johnny.
12:07Didn't I tell you two to stay together?
12:09Oh, we thought it would go faster this way.
12:18Night, horse.
12:36Hey, come on.
12:39Boss, didn't I tell you to stay out of trouble?
12:42Oh, I ain't no trouble.
12:43This here is Bustad Branigan.
12:45He's a box fight champion of the whole Barberley Coast.
12:48Come on, Mr. Bustad, wake up.
12:50Hey, you mean you did this for money?
12:51Sure.
12:52I told you it was going to be fun down on this Barberley Coast.
12:54Look at there.
12:55More than $100.
12:56Makes me madder to Mr.
12:57to think about how much talent I done wasted for free.
12:59Come on, Mr. Bustad, wake up.
13:02Come on.
13:04Come on.
13:05Mr. Bustad, like I told you,
13:06I don't want your championship.
13:09It was nice of you to offer to help us.
13:11Come on.
13:12Come on.
13:14Mr. Bustad, I want you to meet my Paul.
13:16Bustad Branigan, this is not Paul.
13:18No, over here.
13:20Mr. Bustad?
13:22Champion.
13:26Oh, you're a real fine fellow.
13:28Well, champ,
13:30have you any conceivable idea of the seriousness of the situation we're in?
13:34Serious?
13:35Paul, you still think Johnny and Hampton are in trouble?
13:37I don't think it.
13:38I know it.
13:39You mean Shanghai?
13:40Yes, I'm in Shanghai.
13:41Dad burn it.
13:42Let's tear this dang town apart.
13:43They'll do no such thing.
13:44We're not going to invite trouble unless it's forced on us.
13:47And that goes for you two particularly.
13:49Well, just don't stand there making a speck for yourself.
13:52Go get your clothes on.
13:56Shirt on.
14:00Mr. Bustad, it's a real pleasure meeting you.
14:02You'll be a great champion.
14:05Mr. Hoss, Mr. Hoss, number three cousin, he'd like to talk to you.
14:09Mr. Hoss, I'm very happy to meet you.
14:13You're really strong.
14:14I've never seen anyone so strong.
14:17Ain't it something?
14:18Mo Hopsang's relative being so bad and glad to meet me?
14:20Why not?
14:21He win $100 on fight.
14:26You all be careful.
14:27Cousins say everybody on Barber Coast talk about man and two sons.
14:31Say they ask too many questions.
14:34Everybody's in cahoots.
14:36I don't see how we're ever going to find out anything.
14:38Well, we won't find out anything if the three of us keep barging in like we're going to tear the
14:41place apart.
14:42No, we used to do it that way.
14:43Well, it won't work now.
14:45You two boys, you get back to the hotel and you stay there.
14:48And don't move until you hear from me.
14:49I'm going to see what I can find out alone.
14:51Hey, Paul, don't you think we won't go along with you?
14:53No, I don't.
14:54If I find out anything, I'll send Hopsang for you.
14:58Paul, you stay out of trouble, you hear?
15:00You make sure you listen to your own advice, young man.
15:02You too.
15:03Go on, I'll send him.
15:05Lay out.
15:05Lay out.
15:09Sure, Paul knows what he's doing.
15:10Don't you worry about Paul.
15:11He knows what he's doing.
15:15What the hell?
15:25He knows what he's doing.
15:26He knows what he's doing.
15:27All right.
15:33He's doing something.
15:34Go on, he gets over.
15:35He knows what he's doing.
15:38Go on, I'll try it.
15:40Go on.
15:41Go on, go on.
15:42Go on, go on, go on.
15:42You boys wait here.
15:59What a fine-looking place you have here.
16:02We try to keep it up.
16:05If it isn't too much bother, could you make me a brandy squash, please?
16:09Don't bother at all.
16:10That's what I'm here for.
16:13That's what I'm here for.
16:29Now, there's a surprise.
16:31What's the matter? Something wrong?
16:33Wrong?
16:34Why, sir, this is the finest brandy squash I've ever tasted in my life.
16:37And I've tasted them all the way from New York to Chicago to New Orleans.
16:41Well, I'm glad you like it.
16:44It's an art.
16:45Bartender, it's an art.
16:47Not many men have the talent for it.
16:50Come on.
16:51Did you ever work in New Orleans?
16:55No, can't say as I have.
16:57No, too bad.
16:58Why, a man with your talent could demand any wage he asks for.
17:01Yes, sir.
17:04Well, I'm a professional bartender, and you meet a mighty lot of interesting people.
17:09All kinds, no doubt about it.
17:10Yes, I can imagine.
17:11I, uh, wager that, uh, drinks like this practically everybody in town drops in here one time or another.
17:17Well, we, we get our share.
17:20I have two friends in town.
17:22I just got to bring in here and show them what a good drink really tastes like.
17:29Say, I wonder if they've been in here already.
17:33Well, I, uh, got a pretty good memory for bases.
17:37A couple of cowboys.
17:38They work up on a ranch in the Sierras.
17:40Drove a herd of cattle in the town.
17:51Uh, let's, let's see now.
17:53You say, um, I want to get this straight.
17:55You say that there were, uh, two of them.
17:58That's right.
17:59Those two are inseparable.
18:00Two of the best hands they ever had.
18:01Well, hello.
18:03My name is Alexander Pendleton.
18:06I'm the proprietor of this establishment.
18:09I don't believe I've had the pleasure of, uh, seeing you in here before.
18:13Uh, no.
18:15No, no, I, I think not.
18:16Uh, my name's Ben Cartwright.
18:18I've just been complimenting your bartender on the excellence of his drinks.
18:22Well, that's very kind of you.
18:24Uh, why don't we go down to the end of the bar?
18:26It'll be, uh, quieter, more comfortable.
18:30All right.
18:32Over in the corner is better.
18:34Thanks.
18:35Uh, you say your, your name is Pendleton?
18:37Yes.
18:37It's, uh, Alexander Pendleton.
18:40Would you care for another drink?
18:41Well, thank you.
18:43Bartender?
18:43Yes, sir.
18:44A real squash this time.
18:46For the road.
18:55Boss, are you sure you know what you're doing?
18:57Haven't you had enough trouble with those two cowboys you bought from Cutray Joe?
19:01That's their boss.
19:02You just dropped through the floor.
19:04I need three more men to fill out Captain Shark's crew.
19:06And I don't prefer to buy them from Cutray Joe.
19:10Oh, uh, but I...
19:11And if you're thinking of asking for a raise, don't.
19:15The man was lying to you.
19:17You make the worst drinks in town.
19:34No, boss, I'm getting worried.
19:36They've been going over an hour.
19:38Yeah.
19:38Well, I'll tell you one thing, little Joe.
19:40If we don't hear from Hop Singh or Paul one in the next 15 minutes, I'm just about ready to
19:44go down there and tear this dang Barbary Coast apart, board for board.
19:55Where's Paul?
19:57Not sure.
19:58What do you mean you're not sure?
20:00Where'd you leave him?
20:02Mr. Cutlight, tell Hop Singh, wait.
20:04Hop Singh, wait.
20:05Long time.
20:06Mr. Cutlight, no comeback.
20:08Hop Singh, worry.
20:09Come see you boy.
20:10Hop Singh, you shouldn't have done that.
20:12Paul comes out of there and you ain't there.
20:14What's he going to do?
20:15Number five cousin, wait.
20:18Well, Joe, you don't worry if anything's wrong with Paul.
20:20Pa, don't worry.
20:21He can take care of himself.
20:49Boss!
20:49Mr. Cartwright.
20:51Huh?
20:52Johnny!
20:52You boys all right?
20:53Yeah, all right.
20:54How do they get you in here?
20:56You'd never believe it.
20:57After me telling the boys to stay out of trouble.
21:00I know what you mean.
21:01If Johnny hadn't wanted to buy that silk for his wife, we wouldn't be in this mess.
21:06Well, never mind about that now, Ham.
21:07The point is, how can we get out of this mess?
21:10There's nothing we can do.
21:12You raise a fuss, they come in and beat you over the hair.
21:16I've got some fine sailors for you, Captain.
21:19Excellent, excellent.
21:20Sounds like that Mr. Pendleton.
21:29Well, you promised me six.
21:31There are only three.
21:32You've got to give me time.
21:33I need those men.
21:34My ship sails at midnight.
21:36Mr. Pendleton!
21:38Excuse me.
21:41I want to make a deal with you.
21:43A deal, Mr. Cartwright?
21:45I don't know what you expect to get for us.
21:47But whatever it is, I'll pay you twice that amount if you let us out of here.
21:53Twice?
21:54Fair enough.
21:55Oh, no you don't.
21:56A contract is a contract.
21:58You agreed to give me six men.
22:01So I did.
22:03An interesting offer, Mr. Cartwright.
22:04But due to circumstances beyond my control...
22:08Three times the going price!
22:09A contract is a contract if you want my business in the future.
22:14As you say.
22:15A contract is a contract.
22:18Good.
22:22The one who's talking.
22:23He isn't drunk.
22:24Perhaps he just holds his liquor well.
22:26You know my principles.
22:29Don't want him, huh?
22:30The two sailors, yes.
22:31The sober one, no.
22:33Unless you get me four more men within the hour, I'll take my business to cut rate Joe.
22:42All right, boys.
22:43Come get them.
22:45Mr. Cartwright, I feel pretty low down about all this.
22:48Oh, John, it's...
22:50It's my fault for not keeping us all together.
22:55All right, come on, let's go.
22:57Don't do it, Mr. Cartwright.
22:59You'll just be getting a beating for nothing.
23:01Believe me, it's best.
23:02All right, come on.
23:05Boys, we'll...
23:06We'll get out of this somehow.
23:08My boys are bound to be looking for me now.
23:09No, no, no, not that one.
23:11The captain turned him down cold.
23:14Come on, let's go.
23:34Have any luck?
23:36Not a dead burn bit.
23:38Unless I'm getting worried.
23:39Yeah, me too.
23:42I'm getting just about ready to tear this dead blame town apart.
23:46Come on, little Joe.
24:01I brought you something to eat.
24:04Well, I'm not hungry.
24:07Well, you'd better be.
24:09You know, Shanghai Pete is pretty mad about not being able to sell you.
24:15The Shanghai Pete, is that what that Mr. Pendleton calls himself?
24:18Oh, well, you got it wrong, N2.
24:20A Shanghai Pete sometimes calls himself Mr. Pendleton.
24:23Mr. Pendleton.
24:25You'd better eat this.
24:27What's all right?
24:28It ain't got no...
24:28No knockout drops in it.
24:35You're real quality, ain't you?
24:38What?
24:39Oh, well, I mean is, we don't get your kind in here often.
24:44Mostly drunks.
24:45Sailors and farmers and cowboys like them other two.
24:48Well, I'll have you know that them other two, two of the finest men I've ever known.
24:52Just because they happened to go out in a little celebration.
24:56It wasn't a little one.
24:57It was a real good one.
25:00I don't know why men have to act up so.
25:03It just gets them in trouble.
25:05I wish someday I'd find just one man who wasn't always one to get into trouble.
25:11Oh, well.
25:13Wait a minute.
25:16Don't go.
25:17Why not?
25:19Sit down.
25:21What's your name?
25:22Kathleen.
25:23Kathleen.
25:23Well, that's a, that's a right pretty name.
25:27I think so.
25:28Your name is Ben Cartwright, ain't it?
25:32Kathleen.
25:33Tell me, what, what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?
25:39Ain't that funny?
25:40So many men have asked me the same question.
25:42And I've given it a lot of thought.
25:44And I think the reason is, I like the money.
25:49Well, you're certainly an honest sort.
25:52You think so, really?
25:53Yeah.
25:54Well, why are you surprised?
25:56Well, I don't know.
25:56Sometimes, you know, you can't just trust everybody.
25:59Well, Kathleen, I trust you.
26:02Oh, I was sort of hoping you would.
26:06Kathleen, tell me, if this Shanghai Pete or, or Mr. Pendleton or whatever his name is, if he sells me,
26:15do you get anything out of it?
26:18No, I don't.
26:19No, I don't.
26:19Not a penny.
26:21Well, wouldn't you like to?
26:24Oh, yes, I would.
26:26I've been asking to be put on commission.
26:30Kathleen, if you help me out of here.
26:32Oh.
26:33Oh, mercy, no.
26:35Well, I have the money.
26:38Well, I don't see how you could.
26:40Wait the minute, brought you in here.
26:41Pick your pocket first.
26:43I mean, I don't have it with me, but I own a ranch.
26:46I can get all the money I want without any trouble.
26:56How much?
26:59If you help me get out of here, and tell me where I can find the other two men, $500.
27:07$500?
27:08$500.
27:11You wouldn't back out.
27:12Oh, I give you my word, the money's at my hotel.
27:14If you help me get out of here, you get the $500.
27:17Yes.
27:18You know something, Mr. Cartwright.
27:20What?
27:20I was thinking about getting you out of here the minute I came in.
27:23Oh, you'll help with that, Kathleen.
27:30I'll be back in a little while.
27:47That furnace, Joe, this ain't no good.
27:48I know.
27:49He ain't getting us no place.
27:51Look, you go on down the corner.
27:53See if Hop Singh knows anything new.
27:55If he doesn't come on back, and the two of us will take this place apart.
27:57That's what we should have done in the first place.
27:59My temper's only short-fused, Joe.
28:00I can just feel it.
28:01Well, you're not alone, brother.
28:02Hurry up.
28:09Hop Singh.
28:10Hop Singh, you heard anything new?
28:11It's very bad news.
28:12What do you mean?
28:13Number five cousin, he see Mr. Ben go in saloon.
28:16No see Mr. Ben come out.
28:17What saloon?
28:18That one on other corner.
28:20Hop Singh, are you right sure?
28:22Very sure.
28:24Have more bad news.
28:26Number six cousin, he work on dock.
28:28He say ship short-handed, no can sail.
28:31Ship now ready.
28:32Hop Singh think maybe Mr. Johnny, Mr. Hemp, no longer cowboy.
28:36It's sailor man now.
28:38Hop Singh think maybe Mr. Ben sailor man too.
28:44Mr. Hoss, where you go?
28:45I'm going over that wire to be saloon.
28:48You better wait for little Joe.
28:49You're only one man.
28:51Yeah, well that ain't but one saloon, is it?
28:59Mr. I want me some information.
29:06I want it straight and I want it quick.
29:09Now Mr., you better get to talking.
29:10Otherwise, I'm going to twist your geisel pipe out.
29:13My pa was seen coming into this saloon.
29:15He wasn't seen coming out.
29:16Now where is he?
29:18You two better just stand right where you are.
29:20Otherwise, you're going to be waking up with somebody tapping you in the face with a spade.
29:24Now Mr.
29:29I'm looking for Ben Cartwright and two of my best friends.
29:32Here, here, what's going on in here?
29:35What is this?
29:37Mr., you're going to find out what it is if I don't get me some information in quick.
29:40Well now, is this any way to get it?
29:42This is a respectable establishment, son.
29:45I'm the proprietor, Alexander Pendleton.
29:47Have I had the pleasure of seeing you in here before?
29:49Don't make no difference whether you have or not.
29:51I won't meet some answers.
29:52Now son, please try to calm yourself down.
29:55What is it you want?
29:56I won't my pa.
29:57His name's Ben Cartwright and two of his ranch hands.
30:00Then why all the shouting?
30:02I talked to Mr. Cartwright just a short time ago.
30:04Told him where he could find his men.
30:09Mister, are you telling me the truth?
30:11Now why would I have any reason to lie to you?
30:14Won't you please put that thing away?
30:17I have a reputation to maintain here.
30:20That's better.
30:22Don't you forget.
30:23I can draw it out again right quick.
30:26Lady Buck, I'm only trying to help you.
30:28Do you want to hear about your father or not?
30:32I reckon I did get a little too excited.
30:35Dad, Bernard, I've been word plumb sick.
30:37Well now, why don't you try to calm yourself down?
30:42Everything's all right.
30:44Here.
30:45Why don't we come down here at the end of the bar?
30:48What's quiet?
30:49Relax.
30:51Have a drink.
30:52Bartender?
30:55What do you have?
30:56I'll have a drink.
30:57It's all the same to you, sir.
30:58Down the hatch.
31:00Yes.
31:08A fine piece of merchandise.
31:11A fine piece of merchandise.
31:19Here, matey.
31:21Let me give you your hand.
31:22Oh.
31:23Whoa.
31:24Thank you, matey.
31:31I can't swim.
31:32Now, now, this is going to be real interesting, ain't it?
31:34Yeah.
31:36I got a funny feeling like you're standing out here waiting for me to fall down through that hole the
31:40floor.
31:40No, no, no.
31:42I'm getting a stranger feeling that I ain't the only member of my family spinning down through that hole tonight.
31:47Yeah.
31:49Oh, no.
31:50You see a man with gray hair and dark eyes and a deep voice?
31:53I can't remember.
31:54Yeah.
31:55You better start remembering, Buster, because I'm a cowboy.
31:58I ain't no sailor.
31:59And I like to try a land.
32:00There's one way I can get it that I can think of, and that's holding you under till you drink
32:03all the water in this bay.
32:06You starting to remember?
32:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:09Yeah.
32:09Yeah, that's real good.
32:11You just took the first step to establish the basis of a friendship between me and you.
32:15Now, where's my paw?
32:21We'd better hurry.
32:22We'll be back in a minute.
32:23Certainly.
32:25I'll never forget you for this.
32:27Oh, I believe that.
32:39We'll be back in a minute.
32:59Yes.
33:00You're a friend of mine.
33:01I remember.
33:03You promised to help me find my men.
33:05Oh, you'll find them.
33:20Kathy, what is this?
33:22Explain to them.
33:23Well, cut right, Joe.
33:24Let's get down to business.
33:26But you work for Mr. Pendleton.
33:28I work where I make a buck.
33:30You do it.
33:30Look sound to wind and limb.
33:32You know me.
33:33High-class merchandise.
33:37Don't do that, Mr. Cartwright.
33:39You're worth less if you're all battered up.
33:41Double-crossing witch.
33:42Well, quick, Buck Katie, how much do you want for him?
33:46A hundred bucks.
33:48A hundred?
33:49I offered you five hundred.
33:51And then turn me into the police afterward.
33:52Oh, I know the likes of your kind.
33:55A hundred and fifty bucks.
33:56The price has gone up.
33:57Oh, come now, quick, Buck.
33:59You know better than that.
34:00This is stolen merchandise.
34:03This is carriage trade, and you know it.
34:06Double-crossing rats, the lot of you.
34:08He won't be too easy to turn over.
34:10I'll have to buy him new clothes.
34:12The overhead has eaten me up, Katie.
34:15All right.
34:16I'll make it half price.
34:17Seventy-five dollars, and it's a deal.
34:19But only because I've got to get back to the store before I miss.
34:23Quick, Buck, you're a thief, and you know it.
34:27But I do need the merchandise.
34:34Oh, quiet, Mr. Cartwright.
34:41Quiet.
34:42You'll see your crew.
34:43That's what you want, Aide.
34:44See you later, Cartwright.
34:45Have a pleasant trip, Mr. Cartwright.
34:48All right, boys.
34:49Let's see what we can do with it.
34:52What do you want to cross the door?
34:54Nobody come in this room, but quick, Buck, cake.
34:56What you brought Cartwright is supper.
35:05Oh, hello, sweetie.
35:08Don't sweetie me, you little double-crosser.
35:09You sold Cartwright to Cartwright.
35:11But darling, only because it was costing you money
35:14to keep him.
35:15All that good food.
35:17And especially if you couldn't sell him quick.
35:20Now, don't do that.
35:21I wouldn't cheat you.
35:23Sweetheart, none would I.
35:25I'm not so sure.
35:26Little Katie wouldn't hold out on Shanghai feet.
35:31Here you are.
35:32See?
35:39Twenty-five dollars.
35:40Is that all you got for him?
35:42Captain Shock already turned him down.
35:44And Cartwright Joe's got to be stuck with him.
35:51Now, now, you're not mad at little Katie now, are you?
35:54Lucky for you, you caught me in a good mood.
35:57Besides, I've got another Cartwright.
35:59And is he a beauty.
36:01A live one.
36:02A real live one.
36:04All right, wait a minute, boy.
36:12I don't see my pa.
36:14Where is he?
36:14Now, now, wait a minute, lady.
36:16Wait a minute.
36:16Your dad isn't here.
36:17Where's my pa?
36:18Now, now, listen.
36:19Cut, wait.
36:20I'm a lover, not a fighter.
36:26Where is my pa?
36:27Help!
36:29Hopson!
36:31Take it, boy.
36:32Take it, boy.
36:34Take it easy.
36:35Relax.
36:36Relax.
36:36Relax.
36:37Relax.
36:37Now, what happened?
36:38Mr. Horse, he go in saloon.
36:40Long time, nor come out.
36:41Hopson go in saloon, nor see Mr. Horse.
36:43Something happened, Mr. Horse, too.
36:45Now, what's saloon?
36:48Forget it.
37:08Hey, Joe, that ain't no way to treat a lady.
37:12Well, you know, brother, I think you're right.
37:15Hmm.
37:17Oh!
37:22As I told you, I've seen this man before and turned him down.
37:26Not at this price, Captain.
37:28Only a hundred dollars.
37:29I'm letting him go to sacrifice because I'm after your future business.
37:34Besides, your ship sails at midnight.
37:36Cut rate, Joe, you know my principles.
37:38I'm a fair man and a temperance man.
37:41I'm not offering you a drink.
37:43I'm offering you a sailor.
37:44I'm not a sailor.
37:45Sir, I do not approve of the practice of shanghaying.
37:48Now, what are you doing with two of my men?
37:50I would not resort to it except I find myself so often shorthanded.
37:54Now, what kind of an excuse is that?
37:57Sir, I have dedicated my life to stamping out the evils of drink.
38:01It is abominable.
38:03Any man who is so drunk that he doesn't know what's happening to him
38:06deserves to be shanghaied.
38:08This man is perfectly sober.
38:10I can't use him.
38:14Well, thank you, Captain.
38:15I can't say I agree with all of your principles.
38:28Take a smell, Captain.
38:33The reek of demon rum is nauseating to me.
38:36This man is obviously drunk.
38:37I'll take him.
38:38All right, boys.
39:00All right, what's your part in this?
39:03Honestly, I just happened to be walking by.
39:06Well, you just better happen to start remembering a few more things.
39:10Oh, now, laddie.
39:12You wouldn't be harming little me, would you?
39:20That's such a beautiful arm.
39:24It'd be a shame to tear it off.
39:25Oh, help, help, help.
39:27Start talking.
39:28I don't know what you want to know.
39:30What do you want to know about a man named Ben Cartwright?
39:33I don't know.
39:34I sold him.
39:36You sold him?
39:37You sold him?
39:38Where?
39:40To cut Ray's throat.
39:42Down the street in Embarco de Ruale.
39:45You sold our paw?
39:47Yes.
39:48How much did you get for him?
39:49Oh, horse, for Pete's sake, who cares how much you got for him?
39:52Let's get down to this cut Ray Joe's before Pa and the boys are on their way to China.
39:55Let me get my hat.
40:02Get down to this cut Ray Joe's before Pa and the boys are on their way to China.
40:11Come on.
40:25All right, sir.
40:29Lay off.
40:33Let fall for me in the gate, sir.
40:36Take in your back, Springer.
40:43Let fall for me in the gate, Springer.
40:50Hey, sir.
40:53Let fall for me.
41:01Take over your head, lad.
41:05Up sink.
41:08Little Joe, Mr. Horse, this cousin number three.
41:11He see Mr. Ben.
41:13They take Mr. Ben away on ship.
41:15They fight you for a while.
41:17Okay.
41:18You follow me.
41:19Come.
41:24Don't fight it, Mr. Cartwright.
41:26It just ain't no use.
41:46If Johnny hadn't wanted to buy some silk for his wife, he wouldn't be in this mess.
41:52Oh, we've been in worse messes back in the Ponderosa.
41:55We've always been able to get out of them.
41:57I know it.
41:59My heart just ain't in it.
42:01Well, my heart is in it.
42:03And after what I've been through, the ship and 40 sailors are beginning to look pretty small.
42:10Captain!
42:13Captain!
42:15I don't mind to see your captain!
42:18Come on, now.
42:19Where's your captain?
42:22I want to see you.
42:23Sailor, in the future, if you want to see me, you come to me.
42:26Don't send for me.
42:27It isn't done.
42:28Oh, it isn't, isn't it?
42:29Will you listen to me?
42:30Have you ever heard of mutiny?
42:31Mutiny?
42:32Why, you're worse than a pirate.
42:34You and your high principles and your temperance,
42:37I'll see to it that your license is revoked on every sea in the face of this earth.
42:40Just who do you think you are?
42:43I'm Ben Cartwright of the Ponderosa.
42:46The Ponderosa?
42:48The Ponderosa.
42:49I know her well, Captain.
42:50A four-masted schooner out of New Orleans.
42:52The Ponderosa is a ranch.
42:55A ranch.
42:58I always wanted a little chicken ranch.
43:01There's a place up in Santa Rosa.
43:03I'm an American citizen.
43:05I know my rights on board of every ship.
43:09Take Mr. Ben on that ship.
43:12I have enough men in those mountains to sink every ship in this harbor,
43:15and so help me, I'll do it.
43:17That's our pa's voice.
43:19Music to my ears.
43:20It's like a bugle call saying charge.
43:23Let's go.
43:24You'll keep a civil target.
43:29The best showers were being parted.
43:40Hey, Paul, where have you been hiding?
43:42Huh?
43:42Where have you been hiding?
43:46Hang on, Uncle Boss.
43:50All away, Humphrey.
43:51Hey, come here.
43:56Come on.
44:05Come here.
44:07Come on.
44:14Come here.
44:18Come here.
44:26No, no, son, no, son.
44:52Oh, I thought I told you to stay out of trouble.
45:12Well, it took you fellas long enough to find me.
45:19Oh, my God.
45:50Here, son.
45:54Thanks, Paul.
46:01Toss?
46:04I'd rather eat it, Paul.
46:06I know.
46:08Hmm.
46:11Paul, what must that little red-headed gal get for you?
46:17I wouldn't tell him, Paul.
46:20If she did get enough, we might want to sell you back.
46:22If she didn't get enough, you wouldn't want to admit it, would you?
46:26Very funny.
46:29Come in.
46:35Hi.
46:36Hi.
46:40Here are your clothes, Mr. Cartwright.
46:42Oh?
46:42How'd you get them?
46:44We had little business left to finish with cut-rake Joe.
47:16Yes, I see that.
47:18At least we're all together again.
47:20Oh, yes.
47:21Thank you, boss.
47:22Thanks, boss, for everything.
47:23And tomorrow morning, bright and early, we're going to start off on a little vacation.
47:27How about it?
47:28Well, Paul, I just assumed we went back to the Ponderosa.
47:32Well, you're the one who was yelling about getting a vacation.
47:35I know, I know, but a vacation's time for a change, isn't it?
47:39Yeah.
47:41Well, I think I got my change.
47:44Boss?
47:45Well, Paul, if it's all the same to you, there's a little den of wildcats on the Ponderosa
47:50I think I'd rather tangle with than any more of these city folks.
47:53You mean you want to go back to work?
47:55I reckon I do, Paul, and that way we can let old Adam have a vacation.
48:00All right, then.
48:01Tomorrow morning, bright and early, we'll head back to the Ponderosa.

48:34Hey, Paul.
48:36Sure enough, how much did that little gal get for you?
