00:14It's a doggone shame, ain't it, Charlie?
00:16Yep, sure is.
00:18Doc said she had pneumonia.
00:20The time he got here wasn't much to do but call the sheriff.
00:23Well, didn't anyone know she was sick?
00:25First thing anybody knew was him riding all the way in for the doc by himself.
00:30Let's go.
01:01Well, how about it, folks?
01:05None of you want him?
01:08We got our own to worry about.
01:10Well, I guess I could put him up in one of the cells till his uncle can come get him.
01:14He's only a little boy.
01:17He's all alone now.
01:18He needs a home and affection.
01:21He's tainted that kid.
01:22Bad stock?
01:24The whole tree goes rotten sooner or later.
01:26I don't want him around my home.
01:28Come on, Sarah.
01:33Well, I can't stay here all day, Ben.
01:35Yeah.
01:36Send for the boy's uncle.
01:38I'll keep the boy with me on the Ponderosa.
01:41All right.
01:41He's all yours, Ben.
01:53That's a pretty flower.
01:58Weeds will choke it out before it takes root.
02:03Son, you'll be staying at my ranch till your uncle can come for you.
02:08Pa said he'd come back for me.
02:11And I'm going to be waiting right here until he does.
02:15Well, we'll see.
02:18We'd better get your things from the cabin.
02:23I'll go myself.
02:37Pa, there's a lot of hate piled up inside that boy.
02:41Yes, sir.
02:46Pa, there's a lot of hate piled up inside.
02:47No, I swear.
02:50I swear.
02:54I swear.
02:55Bye, bye.
02:55Oh, my.
03:06Bye.
03:34Well, Lily, what have you got there?
03:36It's nothing.
03:38What is it, a secret?
03:40It's nothing.
03:43Well, you don't have to show it to me if you don't want it.
03:49Let's just have a little talk.
03:51Mr. Cartwright, look, you've let me sleep here and you've let me eat here.
03:55All right, thanks.
03:56But I can do chores.
03:57I can help each other.
03:58Now, hold on there.
04:02You don't have to pay me back.
04:04We're friends.
04:05I want you to trust me.
04:08Well, there's no one else left, son.
04:11There is, too.
04:12My pa.
04:14Do you know where your pa is?
04:16Why he went away?
04:17He had to go away.
04:19My ma said so.
04:21My pa promised he'd be coming back, though.
04:24Well, you know, Billy, sometimes we promise things and we mean to keep the promise.
04:32But, well, something happens and we can't.
04:35My pa promised he'd be coming back.
04:38And I'm going to be waiting here until he does.
04:40He doesn't tell lies.
05:05Why is he so touchy, pa?
05:07Hmm?
05:08Why did you get close enough to reach him with a ten-foot pole?
05:10Well, how should I know why he's so touchy?
05:13If I knew that, I'd be so dang worried.
05:16Take your feet off the table.
05:20Hey, Ross, how do you suppose you and I grew up to be so sweet-tempered with such a grouch
05:23for a pa?
05:24No, no, little Joe.
05:25I reckon he must have been a mite more mellower when he was younger.
05:32I guess I had that coming.
05:34That boy has me so worried.
05:38When's his uncle coming?
05:39Sherb hasn't heard yet.
05:41Look, he's got to know about his father sooner or later.
05:43Maybe you should just tell him.
05:45Mr. Cartlite!
05:46Mr. Cartlite!
05:47Come quick!
05:48Hop-Sing's having trouble again.
05:51Mr. Cartlite!
05:52What is it?
05:52What's wrong?
05:53Him bad.
05:54Him very bad boy.
05:55Oh, what did he do?
05:56He take Hop-Sing knife.
05:58The big knife.
05:58What?
05:59The butcher knife?
05:59I see him.
06:00I say you give back.
06:02He say no.
06:03Very sharp.
06:04You better get back quick.
06:05All right, Hop-Sing.
06:06All right.
06:06Well, I've just got to discipline that boy somehow.
06:09Wait a minute, Paul.
06:10Let me talk to him.
06:12Well, don't you think I'm capable of talking to him?
06:14Well, yes, sir, you are.
06:15But maybe you've been talking to us roughnecks so long you done forgot how to talk to a little fella.
06:22Well, maybe you're right.
06:25Go ahead.
06:28Haas.
06:29Yes, sir?
06:31Be careful with that knife.
06:44Billy, did you find one of Hop-Sing's knives out here?
06:48I didn't find it.
06:50I took it.
06:53Oh.
06:57Go ahead.
06:57Let me see you chunk it.
07:00Go.
07:06Hey, that ain't bad.
07:07It's hard to throw.
07:09Well, I don't wonder.
07:10Come here.
07:10Let me show you something.
07:15See, this here knife's got a thick edge here on the back and a thin edge here on the front.
07:20Sure.
07:21That's the cutting edge.
07:24That's right.
07:25You see, this knife here was made for carving up meat, not throwing, not like an engine's knife.
07:29I didn't want it to throw.
07:33I wanted it to whittle.
07:38Hey, how'd you like to have this one?
07:47No, thanks.
07:49Well, Billy, I wasn't going to give it to you.
07:52You got to earn it.
07:54How?
07:55Well, by, by doing some chores for me tomorrow.
08:00Well.
08:02All right.
08:03Here.
08:04Go ahead and take it.
08:05You just hold on to it sort of as long until you can do them chores for me.
08:11Thanks, Mr. Cartwright.
08:13Just one other thing.
08:15Son.
08:18It ain't right to take something that don't belong to you.
08:21Let me take that knife back.
08:22Let me take it in to him.
08:24Old Hop's thing's pretty riled up right now, won't you?
08:26Won't you let me take it in to him, and then you can go by and tell him you're sorry
08:29later.
08:30All right.
08:31If you want it that way.
08:33All right.
08:34All right.
08:35All right.
08:35All right.
08:37All right.
08:37All right.
08:38All right.
08:43I'm seeing.
08:45All right.
08:55All right.
09:17Mr. Hoss.
09:20What happened to little boy?
09:23What you doing in Hop's thing kitchen?
09:25I just brought your knife back, Hop's thing.
09:29That's so?
09:31The little boy take knife.
09:32The big boy take a donut.
09:35Bad boy.
09:36Very bad boy.
09:37I got some real important things to be doing, Hop's thing.
09:39I'll see you.
09:50Who's there?
09:51Me, Hop's.
09:53Just a minute.
10:08I sort of thought I'd come up and show you some real fancy whittling.
10:12Well, I'm sort of busy now, Mr. Cartwright.
10:19All right.
10:21All right.
10:26Where'd you cut yourself, fella?
10:28What do you mean?
10:30Bill.
10:34Don't you think it's about time me and you quit playing around like a couple of puppy dogs?
10:38Don't know when they're fighting for real or just funning.
10:43Let me sit.
10:53I knew you'd cut yourself when I first come up here.
10:56I should have come right on out and said it in the first place.
11:01It hurt?
11:03No.
11:05Yeah, I got some medicine here for it.
11:09Will it sting?
11:12It's not a bad cut.
11:14They always seem like they bleed a little bit more when they're on the thumb.
11:26Here's your knife back, Mr. Cartwright.
11:35Billy, that wasn't your fault.
11:38It was all mine.
11:40Any fool ought to know better than to give a man something that he don't know how to use, right?
11:47I shouldn't have told you I knew how to use it.
11:49Everybody makes mistakes, Billy.
11:52But it takes a real man to admit it.
11:54You go ahead and use that knife till I learn you how to use it.
12:02Gee, thanks, Mr. Cartwright.
12:06Hoss.
12:07That thumb don't get the feeling better you let me hear, you know?
12:14Billy.
12:18Are you hungry?
12:20Yeah.
12:21I guess I am.
12:22Well, what do you say me and you go down and get us a couple of them donuts while Hopson
12:25ain't looking?
12:26Well, would that be all right?
12:28All right?
12:28Well, he'd be downright insulted if any of them things was left by supper.
12:34Well.
12:35Besides that, I'm bigger than he is.
12:38You're about bigger than anyone, Hoss.
12:40Come on.
12:41Hey, Hoss.
12:42You want to see something?
12:44Yeah, I reckon I do.
12:45What?
12:46Just a minute.
12:57It's a picture of my ma and pa.
12:59It has it all in advance on the back.
13:11I'm always a real pretty woman, Billy.
13:14That's the only thing that's really mine.
13:17Except for this knife now.
13:20You know something?
13:22Sure is going to be fun when my pa gets back.
13:25Ain't it?
13:29Yeah, Amelia.
13:30It's long to be a while.
13:32I can wait.
13:33Come on.
13:40Come on.
13:41Come on.
14:09You, get out.
14:11Come on out, Vance.
14:13It's safe now.
14:16I said get out!
14:19Say, if he's got something, I can use on this iron.
14:21I can barely walk.
14:26Old fool.
14:27You've come too far to play games.
14:29You've come too far to play games.
14:40Here.
14:41Stone chisel.
14:42That ought to do it.
14:44Yeah.
15:01Look at this.
15:02Plenty of paper money.
15:04That's luck.
15:05We can get straight to Sacramento now.
15:09No, Pike.
15:11We agreed.
15:12I go for the boy first.
15:14I ain't getting killed for no kid.
15:17We need him, Pike.
15:18He can get food for us.
15:21It's a long way through those mountains.
15:28You wouldn't try and lose me, would you, Vance?
15:31You know these mountains and I don't.
15:34How do I know you'll come back for me?
15:38You keep the money here with you.
15:41All right.
15:42I'll give you 48 hours.
15:44If you're not back, I go on without you.
15:47No money goes with me.
15:49I'll be back.
15:51Sure you will.
15:53Now, you better get that thing off your leg
15:55while I get us to change your clothes.
15:57Then you and me will find me a place to wait
16:00for 48 hours.
16:16Good morning, Ben.
16:18What brings you out our way, Fred?
16:19It's not election time again, is the sheriff?
16:21Where's the boy, Ben?
16:23Well, Billy?
16:23Oh, he's off fishing with Hoss.
16:25Say, did you hear from his uncle?
16:26Nope, but we sure heard from his father.
16:28Him and a killer named Pike
16:29broke out of the penitentiary.
16:32When?
16:33Three days ago.
16:34And yesterday, I got word
16:35a stagecoach was held up
16:36about 30 miles from here.
16:38Driver and guard both killed.
16:40You think it was Vance?
16:42I don't know,
16:42but there ain't been no trace of them
16:44since they killed a farmer
16:45right next to the prison.
16:47Probably on their way to California.
16:49They'd be safe there.
16:50That's what I figured.
16:51Vance knows this country well enough
16:53to slip right past us into the mountains.
16:55Yes, he does.
16:56And there are three passes
16:57into the mountains from the Ponderosa.
16:58I was hoping you and your boys
17:00would point him out for us.
17:05Oh, well, uh...
17:07We'll be right with you.
17:08Thanks, Ben.
17:09We'll wait for you.
17:13I'll take some men to the truck here.
17:15Adam,
17:16you and Joe
17:17will have to take the sheriff
17:18all the way to the Donner Gap.
17:19I'll take a couple of days.
17:22Hoss better look after the boy.
17:24I'll get back here as fast as I can.
17:27Tell Hopsink to wrestle up some food.
17:28Right, Pop.
17:43Hey, Hoss!
17:45Hoss!
17:45Got me another one, Hoss!
17:48Look!
17:53Best fisherman west of the Mississippi.
17:56Ha!
17:57Ha!
17:58Oh, my God!
18:40Hey, hey, hey!
18:42Hey, Benny!
18:43Billy, I done caught
18:43the biggest dang fish in the world!
18:45Hey!
18:46What are you laughing about?
18:47I got a real fish here!
18:50Not one of them puny little outfits
18:51like you got over there.
18:53Ow!
19:00Well, I ain't never seen no fish like that before.
19:10You're not sore, are you, Hoss?
19:14Pistol, you know I ain't sore at you.
19:16I told you I'd catch something, didn't I?
19:18Even with my eyes shone.
19:19Now, I'll tell you what else I'm going to do.
19:22I'm going to throw you out there with the rest of them.
19:24No!
19:24No, it's not!
19:25One, two, and three!
19:31No!
19:36If I ever hear anything about this from little Joe or Adam,
19:39I know a little boy that's going to have a mighty sore bottom.
19:42Well, I wouldn't tell on you.
19:44Well, I wouldn't spank you either, Billy.
19:46I was just teasing.
19:49Hoss?
19:52I wish I were this happy all the time.
19:57I do too, Billy.
20:45Billy.
20:47Billy?
20:51Hello, son.
20:54Car!
20:56I'll come back for you, just like I promised I would.
20:59I knew you would, Pa.
21:01I didn't know it.
21:05Easy, boy.
21:08We can't talk much.
21:10I need your help, son.
21:12Sure, Pa.
21:14Do you think you can keep a secret just between the two of us?
21:19Yeah, but...
21:21There's something I gotta tell you.
21:23About your mom?
21:25I know.
21:26I heard before I got here.
21:29I couldn't help it, Pa.
21:31I know.
21:34Listen.
21:36You gotta pretend you ain't seen me.
21:38You mustn't tell nobody, hear?
21:41This is what I want you to do.
21:43Tomorrow night,
21:45I want you to make sure everybody's asleep.
21:48Make real sure.
21:50Then get some food.
21:52Now, do you remember the cave on the back hill up Spider Creek that you and me found?
21:56You mean our secret cave?
21:59That's right.
22:00I want you to bring the food to me there.
22:02In a couple of days,
22:04you and me are going to California.
22:07California?
22:09I can't stay no more.
22:12Pa?
22:17You didn't tell me where you were all that time.
22:22son,
22:24I kept my promise, didn't I?
22:26Like I said I would.
22:27You sure did, Pa.
22:30trust me, son.
22:33I'll tell you everything later.
22:35Pa?
22:43I'll be waiting.
22:45And remember, son,
22:47this is our secret.
23:01Hey, Billy.
23:02Come on out.
23:03We got company.
23:08Hello, Hoss.
23:09Howdy, Mr. Sherman.
23:09How are you, sir?
23:11Fine.
23:11Horrible.
23:12Hello, Hoss.
23:13Pa's got the contracts ready for you, Mr. Sherman.
23:15Come on in.
23:15Good.
23:16Well, how's the lumber business?
23:18Well, I don't reckon it can be any better, Mr. Sherman.
23:20These dang trees keep growing as fast as we can cut them.
23:23That's good.
23:24Keep building in the city,
23:26and I'll make you Cartwright's the richest men in Nevada.
23:30Orville,
23:31wait outside here.
23:32Daddy won't be gone.
23:35Hello, boy.
23:40I'm Orville Sherman.
23:42Who are you?
23:48Over here at the desk.
23:51Sheriff must have sworn in a dozen extra deputies
23:53just to help find that boy's father.
23:56Yeah.
23:57I reckon folks will be blaming them two convicts
24:00with everything that happens within a hundred-mile radius of here.
24:02Probably so.
24:04How's the boy taking it?
24:07Well, sir, he just lost his maw.
24:11Don't seem hardly fair to me
24:13to have to tell the boy about his pa right after that.
24:15I suppose not.
24:17My father told me he broke out of jail.
24:20You're a liar.
24:22Your pa's nothing but a dirty old convict.
24:26He is not.
24:27He is a murderer.
24:29Murder.
24:30You liar.
24:32You liar.
24:34Say it.
24:35Say he's a murderer or eat dirt.
24:37No.
24:38Say it.
24:39Say he's a murderer or eat dirt.
24:42No.
24:42Say it.
24:43I'll break your arm.
24:44Say it.
24:45Say he's a murderer.
24:46You're going to eat dirt.
24:47Say it.
24:48Orville.
24:49He called me a liar, pa.
24:51I'm going to have to take a switch to you.
24:53Rolling around in the dirt like a barroom brawler.
24:56Now get in that buggy.
24:57Go on.
25:02Billy.
25:03You all right?
25:04He said my pa was a convict.
25:08Are you hurt?
25:09It's all right, Mr. Sherman.
25:11I'll take care of it.
25:11You go ahead.
25:13Children can be very cruel sometimes.
25:16Yes, sir.
25:20Get up.
25:25He said my pa was a murderer.
25:29And that he'd escape from prison.
25:33Billy, it's true.
25:36I should have told you a long time ago.
25:39They think he might be coming this way.
25:51He couldn't make me eat dirt.
25:54You're proud of that, ain't you?
25:55No one's going to say anything about my pa.
26:01Billy, I...
26:04I ain't saying they should.
26:10The thing is that...
26:12It don't matter what your ma or pa was, son.
26:16Because you ate them.
26:19Now, my ma was a real pretty woman.
26:23But that don't mean that folks have got to enjoy looking at a...
26:27A big ugly cuss like me, does it?
26:30Don't you see what I mean, Billy?
26:32It's more important what you are...
26:35Than what your ma or pa was.
26:36Or what people might say about him.
26:38Good or bad.
26:40But, Hoss, my pa promised he was going to come back for me.
26:45When he does, he's going to explain everything.
26:48To everybody.
26:54We better get you fixed up.
26:56I hate to lose a hand with just me and you running this ranch by ourselves, wouldn't you?
27:00We better get you fixed up.
27:02We better get you fixed up.
27:17We better get you fixed up.
27:18We better get you fixed up.
27:20We better get you fixed up.
27:23We better get you fixed up.
27:27So now, first of all...
27:28The affected loved ones...
27:28I think that didn't vary.
27:29The mother어요 много.
27:29To party and theари чет ones...
28:04From now on, it's just the two of us.
28:11We haven't got any friends?
28:15Folks ain't interested in you and me, son.
28:18I never was, and I ain't never gonna be.
28:22Nobody?
28:24Nobody.
28:26Pa?
28:28What?
28:30Would it be all right if I said I love you?
28:37Sure.
28:40That's a good thing.
28:43From my honest son.
28:47To say to each other,
28:52we better get back to the cave.
28:54Paul?
28:56Yeah?
28:58He said you were gonna tell me about where you've been.
29:05You don't know?
29:07A boy said you were a convict.
29:10And a murderer.
29:12Billy.
29:15I shouldn't have been sent to prison.
29:17But nobody cared.
29:19So that's why they sent me.
29:22It was pretty bad there, son.
29:24So I...
29:26I got out.
29:27And I come back for you like I promised I would.
29:33I knew you would, Pa.
29:35You'd have done the same for me, wouldn't you, son?
29:38Sure.
29:40No matter what.
29:42No matter what.
29:45You better get going.
29:51Pa, do you have to go back to that cave?
29:54Yeah.
29:55But maybe by tomorrow night
29:56we'll have enough food
29:57so we can go to California.
29:59Now you hurry.
30:00I don't want no one to find you gone.
30:03Be back tomorrow, Paul.
30:05Pa.
30:06Pa.
30:16Pa.
30:19Pa.
30:20Pa.
30:22Pa.
30:22Pa.
30:23Pa.
30:23Pa.
30:24Let me go, Hoss.
30:26I ain't aiming on pulling this trigger
30:28unless you make me.
30:29Don't you remember me, Hoss?
30:30I'm Vance Allen.
30:31I rented my farm from your pa.
30:33I remember you, Vance.
30:35You could say you've never seen me.
30:37I can't do that.
30:39I can help you turn yourself in
30:40and then do what I can for you.
30:43I got a bad deal once, Hoss.
30:45Vance, you got a fair trial.
30:48The jury found you guilty.
30:50Now busting out a prison
30:52ain't gonna help you none.
30:54I'll go to California.
30:56Nobody knows me there.
30:57I'll go through the mountains.
30:58Nobody's gotta know.
31:00What about the little boy?
31:01I won't wait for him.
31:03I'll go now.
31:04I'll send for him later.
31:06He brung you that food, didn't he?
31:09Yeah, he's a good boy.
31:11You could tell him, Hoss.
31:12He'd understand.
31:15Vance, it just ain't no good.
31:17Come on, let's go.
31:19Can't you understand?
31:21They kept me in a cage like an animal.
31:23I had to get up when they say,
31:24eat when they say,
31:25sleep when they say,
31:26work when they say.
31:27I can't go back!
31:28I can't go back!
31:29Ugh!
31:32Oh.
31:40Oh.
31:41Oh.
31:42Oh.
31:45Oh.
31:50Oh.
31:52Oh.
31:52Oh.
31:53Oh.
31:55Oh.
31:55Oh.
31:57Oh.
31:58Oh.
31:58By the way.
31:58Lamps
32:18Billy
32:32Good morning, Mr. Cartlite. You take enough food along?
32:36Yes, everything was fine, Hopsin.
32:38Hoss up yet?
32:40He never get up until he smell cooking.
32:43The other boys get back?
32:44No, sir.
32:45Well, I'm hungry enough for three people.
32:47Unsaddle the horse to see that he's spared him.
33:05Hoss, I thought you were upstairs asleep.
33:07What are you doing up?
33:23Vance.
33:23Vance.
33:28Paul, I couldn't help it.
33:33He pulled a gun on me, Paul.
33:38I didn't even have time to aim.
33:44Sure, son.
33:46He came back for Billy just like he said he was.
33:53I'm going to tell the boy.
33:55And Paul.
33:58I'll tell him.
33:59Ain't nobody can do it for me.
34:06Billy?
34:10Oh, Billy.
34:16He's dead, son.
34:18He's dead, son.
34:24That's your horse, Paul.
34:27I'm sorry, Billy.
34:29I'm terribly sorry.
34:32You said you were my friend.
34:34You knew he was coming back for me.
34:37You killed him.
34:40Billy, he didn't leave me no choice.
34:45I'm terribly sorry, Billy.
34:47I'd do anything to bring your poor back to you, but I can't.
34:50I'm sorry.
34:54I hate you, huh?
34:55I hate you, I hate you.
34:57Kill my pa.
34:59I hate you, you killed him.
35:01I'm sorry, Billy.
35:02I'm terribly sorry.
35:03I hate you.
35:04Bye, Billy.
35:11I wish I were big enough.
35:13I wish I were big enough to kill you, huh?
35:26How is it not your fault?
35:29Me alone, Paul.
35:50Paz, that boy was not responsible for what he said.
35:53You did what you had to do.
35:57Paul, I never had to do anything like that.
36:02I hope I never have to do it again.
36:07I didn't even sight my gun, boy.
36:11I just pulled the trigger.
36:13And if you hadn't, he'd have killed you.
36:17If I hadn't have buddied in, he never would have drawed on me, Paul.
36:20Paz, Vance was a fugitive from justice.
36:23You obeyed your duty to the law.
36:25There ain't no law that says I can go out and take a man's life away from him.
36:32I ain't got no tin badge that says it's all right for me to kill a little boy's paw.
36:40A little boy that trusted me.
36:44I wish I had some words to take your pain away, Arthur.
36:51What am I going to say to him?
36:55What's he going to think about trusting folks and letting folks be his friends now after what I'd done to
37:01him?
37:02What did you think when your mother died?
37:08I thought the world had come to an end.
37:12But you got over it.
37:14And so did I.
37:20Paul, I can still feel him little fist hitting and hitting me.
37:28It hurts, Paul.
37:30It hurts worse than anything.
37:31I know, son, I know.
37:35I've been sitting here praying as hard as I know how that God would tell me what to say to
37:43him.
37:45We were friends, Paul.
37:52I killed his papa with that.
38:02Paul.
38:06I got these big hands, Paul, and I can lift a heifer clean off in the ground.
38:11And I can whip most near any man I ever met.
38:15But I'd cut them both off.
38:18If it'd make that little boy quit looking at me like he wanted to spit.
38:25Why don't God help me, Paul?
38:28Why don't he tell me what to say?
38:32Why do I have to just be a big dog horse?
38:47There's nothing you can say.
38:50He'll have to understand by himself.
39:00Why don't he tell me?
39:17Why don't you tell me?
39:20All right, I'll go on ahead. I'll try to find Adam and little Joe.
39:25What about the boy?
39:27He's going to come along with me.
39:58Billy, you better get going.
40:18Oh, my God.
40:59I reckon I ought to let these old ponies rest here a minute.
41:15Still cool.
41:17Howdy.
41:22Sure, I'm glad to find you, mister.
41:24I'm near dying of thirst.
41:27What happened?
41:31My horse broke his leg last night.
41:34I must have got lost.
41:44Who you got under there?
41:48It's Vance Allen.
41:53He's one of the two escaped convicts the sheriff's looking for.
41:59What about the other one?
42:02I don't know.
42:04Well, you sure are lucky, mister.
42:07You just found me.
42:09Don't try anything.
42:10Now, put your hands in the air.
42:11You, kid, keep your mouth shut.
42:15Mister, the sheriff's got every man in this country looking for you.
42:18You ain't got a chance.
42:20You ain't got a chance.
42:20Oh, you're wrong.
42:22I've got every chance now.
42:23I've got all this and you to show me through the mountains instead of Vance Allen.
42:28That's where you got it wrong.
42:31I ain't helping you.
42:33Oh, you're gonna help me, all right.
42:37Or I'll kill the kid right here.
42:40You're what?
42:41I had no pushover like Vance Allen.
42:44Now, what's it gonna be?
42:46The kid?
42:47Or are you gonna show me through those mountains?
42:57Run, Billy!
43:16You're the one I need now.
43:18It may take me a while to convince you, but you'll show me through those mountains, won't you?
43:31It's Billy!
43:38Well, Billy, what are you doing out here?
43:41Where's Hoss?
43:43He's with that other man, back in the woods.
43:46What other man?
43:48The one that was with my pa.
43:51Where are they?
43:53Can you lead us back to where they are, Billy?
43:55Listen to me, boy.
43:57That man is desperate.
43:58Now, he could kill Hoss.
44:00Hoss, I want you to lead us back to where they are.
44:03Hoss killed my pa!
44:05I hope he does kill Hoss!
44:07I hope he does!
44:08Did you hear what I said, Billy?
44:09Take it easy, Pa.
44:10Billy!
44:14Billy!
44:21Billy, Hoss is my son.
44:23And to you, he's big and tough.
44:26But he's my boy.
44:28Now, I know how you felt about your father.
44:30He loved him.
44:32No matter what he did.
44:34And he loved you.
44:36And that's a good thing between a father and a son.
44:41Now, Billy, that's the way it is between me and my boy.
44:44No matter what you think of him.
44:47I love Hoss, Billy.
44:49He's my son.
44:51Now, you understand how I feel?
44:54Well, I'm begging you to save his life, Billy.
44:58He's the only one who can.
45:03I'll show you.
45:06That man.
45:08He's being here for me.
45:21Well, big boy, did you have enough?
45:24You gonna take me through those mountains now?
45:26Well, it's not.
45:34You're welcome.
45:36Fuck.
45:39Fuck.
45:40Fuck.
45:42Fuck.
45:44Fuck.
45:45Fuck.
45:48Fuck.
45:49Fuck.
45:49Fuck.
45:51Fuck.
45:52Oh, yeah.
46:07Oh.
46:16Hoss!
46:21Hoss!
46:31Easy boy. Easy.
46:36You did quite a beating.
46:39I reckon I'm lucky.
46:40My old head's as hard as it is, Paul.
46:43We'd have never found you if it hadn't been for Billy.
46:46He's a good boy.
46:49He's gone.
46:52We'd better go after him.
46:53Wait a minute.
46:56Let me go.
47:04Let me go.
47:05Let me go.
47:31Billy, you can't catch many fish without a pole, can you?
47:35You're alive.
47:36Yep, I'm alive now.
47:39My father.
47:40He was like that man, wasn't he?
47:43Well, I...
47:45I reckon he had a little mean streak in him, Billy, but...
47:49lots of folks do.
47:52Billy.
47:54Your papa loved you, son.
47:57But he did come back for me, didn't he?
48:01You bet he did.
48:03Can I go back to the ranch?
48:06Until my uncle comes?
48:09Come on.
48:11Come on.
48:22Come on.
48:27Come on.
48:28Come on.
