00:00An economist has suggested that the Budi 95 subsidy scheme be limited to those in the
00:05B40 and M40 income categories, as this can save Putrajaya up to 1.5 billion ringgit
00:11a month.
00:12Pointing out that those in the T20 still get to enjoy raw 95 subsidies, Ahmad Razman Abdul
00:17Latif of Putra Business School said this could be a targeted measure to manage the cost of
00:21living.
00:22He told FMT that it was previously said that over 30% of raw 95 is used by the T20
00:27and
00:28that if 5 billion ringgit is spent on raw 95 subsidies a month, that 30% would equal to
00:33the government saving 1.5 billion ringgit a month if the T20 did not get the subsidies.
00:38Bank Muammala Chief Economist Abzanizam Abdul Rashid also said Putrajaya should review the
00:44raw 95 subsidy structure, maintaining it for the vulnerable and limiting the high income
00:48group from receiving it, given the government's fiscal pressures.
00:52He said it was uncertain when the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz restrictions would end,
00:56having already impacted global energy supply and prices.
00:59Instead of removing the T20 from Puti 95 as a whole, he suggested giving them a lower monthly
01:04quota compared with the lower income groups.
