00:00Good morning.
00:01Just another day of making our favorite small town better.
00:04Erin, we got to go, babe.
00:06Go fix some old sad houses.
00:08Ben, let's go.
00:09Growing up, I didn't see what was so special about Laurel.
00:12So every day we make sure our girls see it.
00:14Good morning, Katie.
00:15Hey.
00:16Can you believe we fixed up over 100 houses in Laurel?
00:18There's so much opportunity, so many unloved houses.
00:22I don't know what is going to go wrong in here today.
00:25I'm sure something.
00:27Girl, the bat just flew through here.
00:29That's not good.
00:31No way.
00:32We're about to see the house for the first time.
00:34This is the best part.
00:35Oh, my God.
00:37Holy cow.
00:38Are you serious right now?
00:40Ben, did you make this?
00:41Yeah, I made this.
00:43The real truth of living and working in your hometown is that you're going to see these people everywhere forever.
00:48It's your superpower, Erin.
00:50Color is her superpower.
00:51It is.
00:52It is perfect.
00:53Every day is different when you're renovating houses in Laurel, Mississippi.
01:05Coming up on our right, y'all.
01:07Y'all know how this is?
01:08That's the Sims house right there.
01:10So Wendy and J.R. are pulling up stakes in California, and they're moving to Laurel, Mississippi.
01:15We're going to put them stakes down here.
01:17We were inspired to come here by the show.
01:20Hey, y'all.
01:21I've dreamt of moving to Laurel for a very long time.
01:25LA was a little bit too fast for us as we got older.
01:28We both worked all the time.
01:30All the time.
01:31To just pay rent.
01:32We lived in this little, tiny, 850-square-foot house for 25 years.
01:41Wendy's father passed away and left them with a little inheritance.
01:44And they're using that to buy their first home in Mississippi.
01:47Start a new life.
01:48This is the furthest I've ever been away from home.
01:50We pulled into Mississippi.
01:52I felt like I was home.
01:54It's friendly.
01:55It's small.
01:56The houses are beautiful.
01:58They want to stay between $300,000 and $325,000.
02:01I'm sorry we got the worst possible weather for it.
02:04Oh, it's all right, though.
02:05It's so cold.
02:06But it is weather.
02:07Yes.
02:07It is.
02:08Which is different from California.
02:10Most different.
02:11Chilly, but still excited to be here.
02:13We're going to talk about this house right here.
02:14This is the Aluwalia house.
02:19Bulber and Mohinda Aluwalia were the first people to live in this house.
02:24And it's four bedrooms, two baths.
02:27Okay.
02:272,200 square feet, built in 1979, listed for $175,000.
02:33The Aluwalias operated an ice cream shop.
02:37Oh, really?
02:38Mm-hmm.
02:39That was my first job, scooping ice cream.
02:41Yeah?
02:42Yeah.
02:43I want you to look around at this neighborhood, okay?
02:45But this is what you would call a tract house neighborhood, all built at the same time,
02:49by the same builder, similar materials.
02:51Good morning.
02:53We're good.
02:53You all right?
02:54Good morning.
02:57They got garbage service in this neighborhood.
03:00Yeah, that's great.
03:01Look at these houses.
03:03They all have something in common.
03:05The river rock, right?
03:06The river rock is sort of a hallmark of the neighborhood.
03:09And most of them have a lamppost.
03:11Oh, that's what that is.
03:13Yeah, that's what that is.
03:14Well, that's what that was.
03:15What?
03:16At one time.
03:17I don't like the garage.
03:18Like, it angles.
03:19Yeah, like a barn, sort of.
03:20If you color drench it, you sort of lose the emphasis on the garage storage over here.
03:25Oh, wow.
03:26Or we could just square them up.
03:27If you paint the house a more coastal blue-green, I know that's what you love.
03:32Yes.
03:32You love the blues, the greens, the teals, the turquoises.
03:35Yes.
03:35And actually, those really complement a brown roof beautifully.
03:39Yes.
03:39So, a new front door and the trim everywhere would be sort of a camel color that I think
03:45would be our connection to the river rock.
03:47That would be lovely.
03:49And some new landscaping.
03:51All right.
03:51Beautiful.
03:52So, out here, we would be 20,000 in.
03:55All right.
03:56Let's go inside.
03:56It's freezing.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Let's go see the inside.
03:59All the design inspiration that Wendy has sent me is just this very, like, calming coastal vibe.
04:05So, I feel like I have ideas she's really going to like.
04:08All right.
04:10Come on in.
04:11I like an entryway.
04:12Yeah.
04:13It's nice.
04:14Yeah.
04:14It is great to have an entryway.
04:15This one feels a little bit tight, like you're walking into a wall.
04:19This is the dining room.
04:21I wish that we could close this door off and scoot that wall that direction some.
04:27Okay.
04:27So, you have a little more room when you want.
04:29Yeah.
04:30Nice.
04:30And then we'll talk more about what happens in here later.
04:33Okay.
04:33Let's go to the living room.
04:34Absolutely.
04:35Go sit down.
04:36I want to hear your honest thoughts about it.
04:38Oh, wow.
04:39Look at that fireplace.
04:40Oh, my goodness.
04:41It matches the river rock out front.
04:44Yes.
04:44That's such character.
04:45Oh, that's beautiful.
04:46So much going on.
04:47What are your thoughts on the beams?
04:49They're a little dark for me.
04:51The beams, I think, could be beautiful if the surroundings change.
04:55I agree.
04:55What if we made this feel more like a coastal cabin, a light blue green color on the walls
05:03in here, and then build new bookcases, new mantle, all new flooring throughout the house,
05:08an LVT wood floor.
05:10Okay, yeah.
05:11It looks and feels like the warmth of wood.
05:13Yeah.
05:13And then in here, there's also that porch that was taken in.
05:16And everything I've gotten to know about, y'all, you like to play board games.
05:19Yeah.
05:20Puzzles, board games.
05:22Could it be like a game room?
05:23Oh, that would be fun.
05:24Absolutely.
05:24Yeah.
05:25And the living room, the den.
05:26Yeah, that would be fun.
05:27And in there, you know, paint and flooring update.
05:31Nice.
05:31Okay.
05:32From the front door to the back door, so far, we're at $25,000 on the interior.
05:38All right.
05:39Okay, yeah.
05:39Now, I'm excited about what this kitchen could become.
05:43It's a little bit gray right now.
05:45Okay.
05:46Periwinkle and gray.
05:47Yeah.
05:48But this little breakfast nook is lovely.
05:51We've never had one of those.
05:52Yeah.
05:52Yeah.
05:53We lived in a very small house.
05:54Well, for the two of you, I feel like this could be your dining area.
05:58Oh, absolutely.
05:59Oh, yeah.
06:00So, imagine if we opened up this wall, so you're more open to the living room.
06:05And then this becomes a peninsula here between the den and the kitchen.
06:11You could have your sink here on the peninsula, so you're not facing a wall.
06:15Butcher block countertops.
06:16We could have your range and your hood vent over here on this wall.
06:20More of those blues and greens on your cabinetry here.
06:23Oh, yeah.
06:24And on the backsplash, too.
06:25And then forget that this wall exists with the doorway.
06:28In what is now the dining room, that would become more pantry storage, cabinets, and then the refrigerator on the
06:34right.
06:34Okay.
06:35So much more space and storage.
06:38That would be great.
06:39If you steal that room.
06:40That would be nice.
06:41Oh, yeah.
06:42This is a $50,000 kitchen.
06:45Understandable.
06:46Absolutely.
06:47Kitchens are worth it, though.
06:48Yeah.
06:49Absolutely.
06:49But I want to talk about this bedroom, bathroom, because you're going to have your own bedroom.
06:54Yes.
06:54Your own bathroom.
06:55Yes.
07:23I have fibromyalgia.
07:26J.R. can have his pick any bedroom you want.
07:29There's several here.
07:30Three bedrooms.
07:31And a bathroom.
07:31Bathroom across the hall.
07:32And then this, I'm thinking, would be perfect for Wendy.
07:37Oh, wow.
07:38Yeah.
07:39And right now, it's just a room.
07:41You know, it's just a box.
07:42Take a look at the bathroom.
07:43It's big.
07:44I mean, you can just peek in.
07:45Yeah.
07:46It's open to the bedroom.
07:47And then that is a huge closet.
07:50Oh, wow.
07:52But we could make it an even better huge bathroom, I think, if we move the closet by stealing a
07:58little space from the room across the hall.
08:00Okay.
08:00You could have double doors there that open into a closet.
08:03Oh, nice.
08:04I think greens would be fun to use in this room.
08:06Okay.
08:07We've been very blue everywhere else.
08:09This would all be new flooring.
08:11And then add a door here for a little privacy.
08:14And I would want to open up this wall, remove it.
08:17And then that would be a soaker tub at that end of the bathroom.
08:21You could have a cool reclaimed piece here.
08:24And you could have a single sink or a double.
08:27I don't know.
08:28You'd probably want single if it's just yours.
08:29I like big sinks.
08:30One big sink for you.
08:31One big sink.
08:32You could have a walk-in shower on this end where there is currently a tub-shower combo.
08:36Keep the toilet where it is.
08:38Let it feel like the best little coastal cabin, bathroom, bedroom.
08:45It needs to feel like a vacation, I think.
08:47I would love for it to be bright and airy, but have the option of going dark.
08:53Blackout curtains.
08:54Yeah, like blackout curtains.
08:55Because with my condition with the fibromyalgia, I do have sensitivity issues with light, sound, smells.
09:02We could have something that feels very linen and beautiful that still has 100% blackout.
09:07Yeah.
09:07All of the renovations, it's $125,000.
09:10It's a $30,000 bathroom.
09:12Okay.
09:12Okay.
09:13Listed for $175,000.
09:14So it comes in at $300,000.
09:16Okay?
09:17Okay.
09:18You couldn't get this in L.A.
09:19No.
09:20Oh, no.
09:21We have another house that I am very excited to show you.
09:24Okay.
09:25It's in the same.
09:26Same neighborhood.
09:27No kidding.
09:27Okay.
09:28So we're just going to walk.
09:29Is that all right?
09:29That's fine.
09:30Sure.
09:34I want to talk about the Watts house.
09:37What's up with this house?
09:39Ben.
09:39Okay.
09:40It is three bedrooms, two baths, 1,900 square feet, listed for $170,000.
09:48Gerald and Maxine Watts retired and moved here in 1984 and lived here for 20 years.
09:55Okay.
09:55You can tell that the front door used to have side lights there.
09:58Oh.
09:58This is the most affordable way to handle it, where we would patch in with some brick on
10:04each side of the front door, a new front door that feels friendlier, natural wood, paint
10:09the whole exterior, a really soft sage green, and then a lighter version of that same color
10:14on the trim.
10:15And then this was open when I was here taking photos.
10:19Okay.
10:20I'm sorry.
10:21So I did not know that garage door was everywhere.
10:22So there's actually a two-car garage.
10:25Uh-huh.
10:25Nice.
10:26This one comes in at $20,000, just like the other house.
10:28On the exterior.
10:29Okay.
10:30Let's get inside and warm up.
10:31Yeah.
10:32Absolutely.
10:33The heat is on in there.
10:35All right.
10:35Watch out walking in.
10:37Meets you right in the face.
10:39Right into the wall.
10:40But come see the big living room.
10:44It's pretty.
10:45Another fireplace.
10:47I like the mantel.
10:48That's really cool.
10:49Yeah.
10:49It's better.
10:50We would, I think, do well to just paint the brick.
10:53Okay, good.
10:54Floors are very cool.
10:55I like the floor.
10:56Oh, this is gorgeous.
10:57Different colors.
10:58There's a million different flooring choices throughout the house.
11:01I would love to find this and match it everywhere.
11:04Oh, that would be lovely.
11:05And then this is just like a room.
11:08Maybe it was a home office or something.
11:10Yeah.
11:10Okay.
11:10There's no closet.
11:11We could open up a cased opening.
11:14Oh.
11:14So then your den just becomes much bigger.
11:18Okay.
11:18And that could be the game room.
11:20Like the game room.
11:21Gotcha.
11:21Yeah.
11:21Okay.
11:22For these rooms, 30 grand.
11:26Okay.
11:26Yeah.
11:27Let's talk about the kitchen.
11:28Okay.
11:28Fantastic.
11:29It's kind of a blast from the past.
11:31Oh, wow.
11:32You know, I've been in a million kitchens in my life that looked like this cabinetry.
11:37Oh, my gosh.
11:38It does.
11:38At the other house, we took what was a dining room and made that more kitchen.
11:43Oh.
11:44I would want to do the same thing here.
11:46Oh, yes.
11:47Absolutely.
11:47I think lose these uppers that block the view here, build a new peninsula.
11:51We can have butcher block countertops again.
11:54Yes.
11:54And here, I think I would want to go with like a buttermilk color on the cabinetry.
11:58Oh.
11:58And the natural wood tones against it.
12:00The sink stays where it is.
12:02Oh, I like that.
12:03And here, there's a breakfast nook again, but it's a little bigger.
12:06Don't like that wallpaper, but I like it.
12:08No, the wallpaper is hideous.
12:10We can lose the wallpaper for sure.
12:12And then here, we would have the range and the hood vent built in where that pantry is.
12:17Okay.
12:17And you would lose this wall here.
12:19This would become more kitchen, and you would have the fridge.
12:23Yeah.
12:23Lots of counter space.
12:24And then we'd build a wall at the end of the room to make that all a walk-in pantry
12:29where
12:30the window is.
12:30Oh, wow.
12:32For the kitchen, 55 grand.
12:35Okay.
12:35Okay.
12:36Okay.
12:37So, it is a three-bedroom house.
12:39We think it'd be better if it were two bedrooms, two baths.
12:42Okay.
12:42Well, two, three.
12:44It's currently two bathroom.
12:45We're adding a bathroom.
12:46That's true.
12:47Oh.
12:47All right.
12:48So, there's a bedroom there.
12:50Bedroom.
12:50Bedroom.
12:51Okay.
12:52This would be JR's wing.
12:54Okay.
12:54Oh, that's large.
12:55Oh, it's a nice room.
12:56Yeah.
12:57Man.
12:58An ensuite bathroom for you.
12:59Oh, nice.
13:00And you will too.
13:01So, this would become your bedroom, Wendy.
13:03Okay.
13:04And then this would be a bathroom.
13:08Oh, yeah.
13:09Very big.
13:09Now you're talking.
13:10That would be a huge bathroom, right?
13:11Oh, yes, it would.
13:12And so, if your bedroom is on the other side, we'd open up a doorway.
13:16We would steal that closet space and build out some closet space here on the right that
13:20you would access through a little hallway between the rooms.
13:22Okay.
13:23But the bedroom plan would be much the same as what I had talked about at the other house.
13:26Soft, light colors, blackout drapes.
13:30Then, in here, this door would go away.
13:33You would have your shower over here.
13:35Okay.
13:36A toilet over here.
13:37Mm-hmm.
13:38Yeah.
13:38You're standing in front of the vanity.
13:40And I think we stick with that reclaimed plan that we had at the other house with maybe
13:44some sort of, like, farm-type sink.
13:46Oh.
13:46And then a big soaker tub under the window and some open-shelving linen storage here.
13:52Yeah.
13:52Okay.
13:53This would be a great bathroom.
13:54Would give you a great thing.
13:55Yeah.
13:55It really would be.
13:56I mean, that bathroom in there, it's an okay size, but it's a bit small for what you
14:00need, Wendy.
14:01This would end up being $40,000.
14:03Gotcha.
14:04Okay.
14:04All the renovations come in at $145,000.
14:09Okay.
14:09Okay.
14:09This one comes in a little bit higher, $315,000.
14:13Oh.
14:13Okay.
14:14So what do you think about the Watts house?
14:16I like it.
14:17Yeah.
14:17There's a lot of potential.
14:19So the first house, it's got an extra bedroom, but only Wendy gets her own bathroom.
14:24With this house, you both get your own bedroom and bathroom.
14:27So it's, they're little things that each house has.
14:30Right.
14:37Weave, weave, weave.
14:40Up and over.
14:42Good job.
14:42Wendy and JR train dogs.
14:44They are AKC certified dog trainers.
14:48It's a passion.
14:49It's a love.
14:50Passion.
14:51I couldn't live without doing it.
14:53Bring him close to you.
14:53We'll do a hip turn.
14:54And we have one dog that could use a little...
14:57Training.
14:58Help.
14:59Sit.
15:00Come here.
15:01Hey, buddy.
15:02What a good dog.
15:03Good boy.
15:04Good boy.
15:05Excellent job.
15:05Good boy.
15:06So we got a new dog.
15:08Full-blooded, beautiful golden retriever.
15:10He's new at our house, so we haven't had a lot of time to teach him much.
15:15Sit.
15:16Little tickle spot right back there.
15:18There you go.
15:19Good boy.
15:19Good boy.
15:20Good boy.
15:21Also, it's very hard to train when there are two little blind girls who are constantly trying
15:26to train them to do the thing you're trying to train them not to do.
15:29That is an amazing dog.
15:31So we heard y'all bought a house.
15:33We did.
15:34I don't know which one.
15:35We did.
15:36Well, both houses were so great.
15:38I thought you were just about to tell me we got both houses.
15:40I know.
15:41We got both houses.
15:42And then I was really confused, but...
15:44No, we chose the Aluwalya house.
15:47All right.
15:47Yes.
15:48Absolutely.
15:48Yes, yes.
15:49We're so excited because we want to be able to have the game room, the craft room, and
15:54a guest room.
15:55And that house gives it all to us.
15:57Yes.
15:57Plus, JR's room doesn't need much, so we can focus on Wendy's room and the main
16:01living areas.
16:02I think it's going to be really fun because I haven't ever done a house like this before
16:05that has so much of the stone accents with the fireplace and on the outside, and I'm like,
16:10it's going to be a new skill.
16:11I'm going to see.
16:12Can we make it feel more coastal when it feels deeply cabin right now?
16:15Right.
16:16Look at this.
16:17Look at old Brinkley.
16:18Look at it.
16:19Look at it.
16:20But if Mayor Helen walks up, he's jumping.
16:24Okay.
16:25Let's do it.
16:25Go team.
16:26Yeah.
16:35Let's see how tall we can make this tower to Sean.
16:38I like a challenge.
16:44Yeah.
16:47You got to come add some drawers to our Jenga pile.
16:53Dang, Katie.
16:54That's a big door.
16:55Yeah.
16:56You're cruising for a bruising.
16:57Woo!
16:59Wow.
16:59He did it.
17:00All right.
17:01Who's up next?
17:01Wow.
17:03Oh, my.
17:04Yeah!
17:05Wow!
17:06Look at that!
17:07That was awesome!
17:10Woo!
17:13Oh, no!
17:15Don't you do it!
17:18Because we need to get to eight foot.
17:20Oh, no!
17:22Oh, no!
17:22Oh, no!
17:24Oh, no!
17:26I'm sorry that happened to you.
17:29Nobody touched it!
17:32All right.
17:32Well, I'll take these to the dumps.
17:34Yep.
17:35That was fun.
17:36Good job, everybody.
17:37My watch just said loud environment.
17:39Sorry about that.
17:47This is a lot of demo.
17:49We got to open up a lot of walls.
17:50But it's 80s demo.
17:5380s demo, you know exactly what's what, what's where.
17:56It's easy to take out.
17:58Usually not rotten anywhere.
18:00Yeah.
18:0360s and 70s demo, you don't wanna mess with.
18:05Hmm.
18:06Ben!
18:07Yes!
18:08Did you see this fireplace?
18:10Ooh!
18:11That was over the top.
18:13Well, I wasn't expecting it.
18:15I thought it would be square at the top.
18:16No, isn't that great?
18:18So why would they have covered that?
18:20That might even look like they really used the fireplace.
18:23So it's just like ready to burn a fire.
18:26Yeah.
18:27Hmm.
18:27This is going straight.
18:29Straight to trash.
18:46Hey!
18:47What do you think?
18:48That is a whole wall you've got there.
18:52So much space.
18:53Look how big the kitchen is.
18:55So good.
18:56We are building it back, baby.
18:58This one wall changes the DNA of the house.
19:01Yeah.
19:02It does.
19:03But look at this.
19:04Okay.
19:05This applies to everyone here.
19:06Hey guys.
19:07So Jay Parker is closing and they have let me come into their warehouse to look at all their
19:12wood.
19:13Jacqueline Parker, she had a big warehouse of reclaimed wood and was building tables and things
19:18like that from it.
19:19Had a shop downtown.
19:20Yeah.
19:21And she's decided to close up shop.
19:23She's selling out all of her inventory, which means a lot of reclaimed wood for super cheap.
19:29I mean, look at all this.
19:32It's crazy.
19:33I mean, there's just tons to look through.
19:35Wendy loves reclaimed wood.
19:37I think it's a flexible element that makes a really nice statement either way, coastal
19:41or cabin.
19:42We could add reclaimed here in this opening, the mantle.
19:45Mm-hmm.
19:46And maybe even do like a header across that whole opening.
19:51We could make it look like an old beam.
19:54Reclaimed wood brings patina and character and soul to a newly renovated space.
19:59I feel really excited about that.
20:14All right, JR.
20:16I'm excited about this idea.
20:18It's like essentially like a piece of furniture you'd see in a hospital.
20:22Over the bed table.
20:23Yes, sir.
20:24But pretty.
20:25One of the reasons I really want to build this for her is down the line, she's probably
20:30going to end up in bed quite a bit because of her condition.
20:33It's called fibromyalgia.
20:35Okay.
20:35It's a neurological disease.
20:37Is degenerative the right word?
20:38Yes.
20:38Over time, it'll get worse.
20:40Yeah.
20:41It's going to be a difficult thing as we get older, but we're a team.
20:46So this piece of furniture needs to be beautiful, but it needs to be functional.
20:50Yes.
20:51Functionality is very important because when Wendy's having a bad day and she feels worthless
20:56and she doesn't feel like getting out of bed or doing anything, if she can still have
21:01a project to do, if she can still feel worthy of being alive, then this would help her to
21:09do that.
21:09I mean, honestly, like for the majority of us, feeling worthy day in and day out is the
21:19hardest thing about life for everybody.
21:22Most definitely.
21:23Being able to give that gift would be huge.
21:26What I'm thinking about here, give me that board right there.
21:30Sure.
21:30Yep.
21:31So I'm imagining a console table or like a buffet.
21:36Okay.
21:37It's got to be tall.
21:38Yes.
21:39It's got to be able to go over the bed, but also over her leg.
21:42Absolutely.
21:42So legs on either side and then a top.
21:45Okay.
21:45Okay.
21:46Caster's underneath it.
21:48So it could roll up to wherever she's sitting.
21:51Okay.
21:52Maybe a little drawer or something so that she has stuff to put in.
21:55Do a drawer under here.
21:56Okay.
21:57I like that idea.
21:58You like white oak?
21:59It's nice and durable.
22:00I love white oak.
22:02I'm glad that you're here to help build it.
22:04All right.
22:05Rock and roll.
22:17A lot of time we build furniture because the house needs it.
22:21They don't have a dining room table.
22:23They need a dining room table.
22:24Pretty matched up nice.
22:25Like that?
22:26Mm-hmm.
22:26This is a unique piece because this is something that will make Wendy's life easier.
22:31How do we feel about it?
22:32I absolutely love it.
22:34This is going to help her in so many different ways.
22:36It's hard to list them all.
22:48Well, Erin is upset.
22:50She's got a cold.
22:51She caught it from May.
22:52And she couldn't be here this morning, but she said to tell you hello.
22:55Poor lady.
22:56She's jealous that she couldn't hang out with Tony there.
22:58I don't think she knew Drew was going to be here.
23:00All right.
23:01So as far as the front of this house, the homeowners just hated these clipped corners,
23:06which it does kind of date it to the 80s.
23:09Yeah.
23:10We thought we were going to just cut here.
23:12Uh-huh.
23:12And cut across, expose the header.
23:14Thought it'd be quick, easy peasy, right?
23:17Mm-hmm.
23:18No, sir.
23:18It's never that.
23:19Never that.
23:23It's rotten down here at the bottom.
23:25Yep.
23:26That's just from years of neglect of deferred maintenance.
23:30So I mean a complete demo.
23:32Oh, gosh.
23:33Now that we've opened this can of worms, this needs to be fixed.
23:38Yes, it do.
23:42I showed up today thinking, oh, this is going to be so easy.
23:48This is such a simple fix.
23:49We're just going to knock those corners out.
23:51They're not structural.
23:54Nope.
23:56We now have to remove all the siding here on the front.
23:59We have to remove all the trim.
24:01We're basically rebuilding the front of the garage today.
24:04We need to talk to Wendy and JR about it.
24:07Let them know what we found.
24:08We've got to fix the rod before we can fix anything else.
24:15Hey.
24:17Hey, babe.
24:18Hey.
24:19I'm seeing all the reclaimed wood is going up and I just don't love it.
24:24I'm worried about that beside that.
24:28You're worried about the new trim beside the old beams.
24:32Wendy doesn't love these beams.
24:35She wanted them painted.
24:37I said, Wendy, I think I can make you love these beams once you see the whole picture come together.
24:44But now I'm starting to see the whole picture come together.
24:47And I feel like Wendy's is right.
24:50Yeah.
24:51With all this reclaimed wood we're adding, even with all our light, bright coastal color, I just feel like if
24:56we keep the beams as they are, it may be pushing us a little too cabin heavy.
25:00Like, I want to paint the beams, not the color of the ceiling, like a two-tone color so they
25:06still make a shadow.
25:08Yeah.
25:08You still want them to be an accent, just not a wood accent.
25:12Yeah.
25:12It'll be good.
25:13The beams have been a big deal.
25:15Yeah.
25:16Because we've had to put a whole new header in over here.
25:18Me and Tony were working over here.
25:19We noticed the sag in the wall.
25:22And we needed to get a look at that because it looked like they had done something they shouldn't have
25:26done.
25:26Because one time it's an exterior wall, there was a window here, a window there, and then there was a
25:33door here.
25:34So all this weight was on this with no headers in it, wasn't carrying any load.
25:39There was nothing here in 12 feet.
25:42They just cut it off so you were headed towards catastrophic failure.
25:45That's as dangerous as it gets in the building world.
25:48Because all these rafters, the weight of this roof is here.
25:54Wow.
25:55Mike, how long you been doing this?
25:5735 years, ma'am.
25:58And Mike's been doing this longer than I've been alive.
26:00Thank you, thank you, thank you for fixing it.
26:08The mantle will just be simplicity, you know?
26:12We've got so much to look at.
26:14It's about the stone.
26:14It's about the arched opening of the fireplace.
26:16It's about the bookcases.
26:18I love the shape, the color.
26:21The mantle is the side character here.
26:24We don't really care about the mantle the way we care about everything else.
26:27Cream on the ceiling, blue on the walls.
26:30And then I think we're in a good place.
26:33We got it.
26:34I hope it'll be the serene coastal cabin feeling that Wendy wants to feel comfortable.
26:44Good morning.
26:45Good morning.
26:46We're going to build a kitchen today.
26:48We are ready.
26:49Today?
26:50Today's the day.
26:50This all looks so good, Erin.
26:53It does.
26:54This is new.
26:55You don't know, but this is all new and it looks so good.
26:57Yeah.
26:57It looks good.
26:58I like it.
26:59So let's talk about bookcases now.
27:01And I just want an updated version of what we had before.
27:05Bookcases here, storage below.
27:07Perfect.
27:08Really simple.
27:09All right.
27:10Great.
27:11Thank you so much.
27:12All right.
27:16Paint is extremely transformative in this house because the most dated parts of it were
27:21the colors of it.
27:22Wendy loves how being close to the ocean makes her feel.
27:24So we're going to bring in a lot of oceanic colors.
27:27Wendy and JR lived in a house that was so extremely modest.
27:31And so I think to live here, they're going to feel so much gratitude to have this kind
27:36of space.
27:37They're going to feel like they're living a whole different life.
27:49Hey, y'all.
27:50Scott has the vanity stone and he has the dog bowl stone too.
27:55Can we just pop that in?
27:57I didn't know we were doing dog bowl stone.
27:59Yeah.
28:00A little dog vanity.
28:02Yep.
28:04I love it.
28:06Little custom moments in a house are what make it unforgettable.
28:10This is the first time we've had Scott from Stoneworks, Ronnie and Mario from Scottsman
28:15here and it's like we're two competing countertop companies.
28:18All of us installing countertops.
28:20Y'all try not to get in a ball.
28:22It's going to be like the West Side Story.
28:24We don't even have a gang war in here.
28:25All over.
28:26You're on my turf.
28:28Y'all can do a dance fight?
28:29Yeah, no.
28:30That's probably not happening.
28:35That will never happen.
28:39Anyway, you need help bringing in the big piece.
28:41I do.
28:41Okay.
28:42And also that if a fight breaks out, I want you on my team.
28:44Oh.
28:45Those raspberries are scrappy.
28:50You got it?
28:54This is what this house needed so badly.
28:59These look gorgeous.
29:02Cherry is my very favorite right now.
29:04I think it looks good with everything, especially the fireplace.
29:07Because we have a better balance of cool and warm color now.
29:11And once the flooring comes in, that'll add even more of warmth.
29:15It's good.
29:16I love it.
29:17You know when we straightened these out, the garage doors?
29:20Mm-hmm.
29:20There's the ghost of, yeah, the old angle.
29:23We are getting new garage doors.
29:25My initial idea was to just color drench the whole exterior,
29:28which would solve our garage door problem.
29:30But the truth is, they're just in such bad shape.
29:32We really can't leave them.
29:34Now that we can get the garage doors, we gotta pick a color.
29:37Can we do custom color?
29:39Can we paint them?
29:39Not in our budget.
29:41Okay.
29:42Well...
29:45You got four colors to choose from.
29:47Cool, cool.
29:47What are the four colors?
29:48We've got white.
29:50No.
29:50Almond.
29:51Maybe.
29:51Brown.
29:52Black.
29:54Brown.
29:55Like dark brown or light brown?
29:56Like dark brown.
29:57Darker than that?
29:58A little smidge darker than that.
29:59Okay.
30:00Okay.
30:01Let's do brown.
30:02But I've got some other cool news.
30:04Got a new project for us.
30:06Chance's family has this cabin.
30:08He and his grandfather built it together.
30:09You guys have to come see it.
30:11We think we should do the cabin together.
30:14Do a little update?
30:15Yeah.
30:16You know, like a cobbler's kids never have shoes.
30:18Uh-huh.
30:18The cabin are my kids' shoes.
30:20And I just can't get it together.
30:22Before we go out there and get excited, you have to let us surprise you.
30:27Because you'll want to be there the whole time.
30:29And then why are we even there?
30:30That's not very fun for us if we can't just surprise you.
30:32Maybe you could like surprise me at the end.
30:35Either way.
30:35The control freak said.
30:37I have to be there to control it or I can't control it, you know?
30:39How am I going to control this?
30:40Just putting words in my mouth.
30:42How are you going to control it if you're not controlling?
30:45Yes.
30:47Love that.
30:49This is the bathroom sink?
30:50Yes.
30:51You didn't see that coming.
30:52I did not.
30:54Wendy had a wish for an old fashioned vintage sink that you would typically see in like a laundry room.
31:00It's like a utility sink that's enameled cast iron.
31:04This was Wendy's dream.
31:06It was very important to her that we have this exact sink.
31:09I mean, it looks extremely retro.
31:12But it does, I love the idea of having a huge sink in the bathroom.
31:27Surprisingly heavy.
31:29Yeah, this was Wendy's grandfather's sewing machine.
31:32He had an upholstery shop.
31:34And I was thinking, we build a game table, or really a puzzle table.
31:41Are they big puzzlers?
31:42They like putting together puzzles, they like playing games.
31:44And Wendy likes to paint, do arts and crafts, when she's feeling good.
31:48So what's your idea on this?
31:49Take the top off, make a new top.
31:52Man, they made so many of these.
31:55Yeah, they're everywhere.
31:56Cool.
31:57You may get into sewing again.
31:59Man, I might.
32:00All right, I'm going to work on the top.
32:10This sewing machine table base, these were everywhere in the early 20th century.
32:16I still know people who work in like automotive upholstery who use this type of sewing machine.
32:27We're using the reclaimed pine that we've been using in Wendy and JR's house.
32:32I think it's going to look great in there.
32:34We're just going to do a clear seal on top.
32:37Boy, that's a big tank top, huh?
32:41Oh yeah, that's way too big.
32:43Well, you know what the good news is about making something too big?
32:46You can always take away.
32:48That's right.
33:03Wendy and JR's house is finally not peach.
33:07And this is really crazy.
33:09Steven painted it.
33:11Peach.
33:12Like 20 years ago?
33:1320 years ago?
33:15It's been exactly 20 years, you know, give or take.
33:18But it's the very first job I did starting off for myself.
33:22This is the very first job I ever did.
33:24In 20 years, if we're all still doing this, we'll call you up.
33:29All right, and I'll come put a fresh coat on.
33:31I love it.
33:32I love it.
33:39This house was completely transformed and color did a lot for us.
33:45We got a lot of cool colors because Wendy loves the way being close to the ocean makes her feel.
33:52Oceanic colors, soft, reclaimed woods, she really loves.
33:58And so finding all of those elements and bringing them together is what changed the personality of the house totally.
34:05Wendy has some health issues.
34:06And so everything we did in the house needs to accommodate that beautifully though.
34:11The whole house should make her life a little bit easier.
34:14I hope.
34:24All right, y'all.
34:26Been a journey to get it this far.
34:28Yes.
34:29Welcome to the Williams house.
34:31Oh!
34:31Oh!
34:31Oh, my goodness!
34:33Oh, my goodness gracious!
34:35It's beautiful, Erin!
34:37Nice job, y'all!
34:39Oh, my gosh, that's not my house!
34:40Wow!
34:40I can't recognize it!
34:42It's very different!
34:43This isn't our house!
34:44No way!
34:45This is it!
34:46Oh, my gosh, you guys!
34:48I love it so much!
34:50Thank you!
34:51Ben, thank you so much!
34:53You're welcome!
34:54You're so welcome!
34:55It's so beautiful!
34:57I can't believe it!
34:59And look at the garage doors!
35:00Look at the garage doors!
35:01How they're...
35:01Oh, my gosh!
35:02Oh, they did!
35:03They changed them!
35:03I hated that!
35:05They're just square!
35:06Oh, I love that!
35:07Look at the posts!
35:08Oh!
35:08The front door is amazing!
35:10And the lamppost works!
35:12Oh, my goodness!
35:13The front yard is completely different!
35:18And that rock, it pops!
35:21It does!
35:22The colors you picked are amazing!
35:24I...
35:24Oh, wow!
35:26It's beautiful!
35:28I can't believe this is our house!
35:30Yeah?
35:30I can't believe I get to live here!
35:31I told you I would ugly cry!
35:34It's beautiful!
35:35This is a big transformation!
35:36Yes, sir!
35:37And the inside transformed completely!
35:41It's so good!
35:42Come on!
35:43Y'all go see it!
35:44Okay!
35:49Open the door for her, JR!
35:51Oh!
35:51Ladies first!
35:53Oh!
35:58Wow!
35:59Wow!
36:02Oh, my...
36:03Oh, my...
36:03It's so beautiful!
36:04Stunning!
36:06Oh, wow, you guys!
36:07Just amazing!
36:11Oh, I love the reclaimed wood!
36:13Oh, it's so beautiful!
36:14The wood kind of changed the personality of the whole room!
36:17Absolutely!
36:18And then with the beams in here, you know, we all...
36:20Erin and I convinced y'all...
36:21I was not gonna paint them!
36:22Yeah!
36:22Yeah, we didn't wanna paint them!
36:24But once we started putting in the reclaimed wood...
36:26They did not talk!
36:28Yeah!
36:29And the floors!
36:30My gosh, guys, the floors!
36:32The floors!
36:32Yeah!
36:32You guys did an amazing job here, man!
36:37Oh, my...
