00:00Where did you get it?
00:01Uh, it was my mom's in the 80s.
00:04Vintage!
00:05Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most sought-after retro fashion trends,
00:11alongside the ones that are way less popular.
00:14She's so wise.
00:15And yet she thought a purple velour tracksuit was a good idea.
00:20Number 5 Most Vintage Chanel Suits
00:23Few brands have a more luxurious reputation than Chanel.
00:28Ah, my favorite.
00:31I know.
00:33Well, those rich Texas society women, they're gonna eat you up.
00:37The French company was established in Paris in 1910, then rose to global fame in subsequent decades.
00:44Their suits became a staple of 60s fashion, with Jacqueline Kennedy famously wearing one in Dallas when her husband was
00:51tragically shot.
00:52There were wanted posters everywhere.
00:55I have a jack with Jack's face on them.
01:02Let them see what they've done.
01:04Now, their suits in this style rarely sell for less than four figures.
01:08Even pre-owned, ones aren't much cheaper, making these suits a clear flex of wealth.
01:14A reason they're so expensive is that each jacket can take up to 130 hours to make, with Chanel's head
01:21seamstress supposedly overseeing the craft of every single jacket.
01:25Gabrielle Chanel is known for making clothes that women would really love to wear and would feel at ease in,
01:34that they were comfortable, simple in style, but still truly elegant.
01:38Number 5 Least, Loci Bracelets
01:41Loci is a jewelry company located in New York City, most famous for its adventurous bracelets.
01:47My name's Steven Eisen. I'm the founder and CEO of Loci. We're a lifestyle brand.
01:52Our first product is the Loci Bracelet, which incorporates water from Mount Everest and mud from the Dead Sea.
01:57They were notable because they were made of random components from natural landmarks.
02:02For instance, their classic bracelet includes parts of both Mount Everest and the Dead Sea, a fact many were skeptical
02:09of.
02:10Is there water in there?
02:10There's not one drop of water in there.
02:13What?
02:14Nothing on the entire paper towel.
02:17There's nothing.
02:19That's weird.
02:19Not one drop of water.
02:22Not one drop, literally. Like nothing at all. It's just plastic.
02:25It's intended to be symbolic of balance, representing the highest and lowest points on Earth.
02:31They also kindly donated 10% of the profits to charity, but it wasn't enough to keep them popular for
02:37long.
02:38When people buy a Loci, they usually buy a cause that's really important or passionate to them.
02:43They have a deep-rooted story that they carry with them, and the bracelet is just a physical representation of
02:50that they wear on their wrist.
02:51The bracelets peaked in popularity during the mid-2010s and have been rarely discussed since.
02:57Loci has apparently donated over $8 million to charity, though, which is pretty impressive.
03:03Number 4 Most Vintage Leather Jackets
03:07You can probably get loads of leather jackets for relatively cheap online, but the vintage ones are what people are
03:13really after.
03:25Some of the most desirable come from over 70 years ago, such as those from the mid-20th century.
03:31They were first created for aviators around the 1920s, but by the 50s, they were everywhere.
03:39Ones from that decade can sell for over $10,000, depending on the designer and brand.
03:45Comparing a 70-year-old bomber jacket to one fresh out of the box is simply not a fair comparison.
03:50If you want a complete 1950s rebel look, try pairing a jacket with authentic vintage cowboy boots.
03:56These are equally sought after, with the most expensive selling for over $100,000.
04:02I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle.
04:14You forgot to say please.
04:16Number 4 Least Jelly Shoes
04:18You loved them?
04:19I did!
04:19I had these purple jelly shoes when I was a little kid, and I wore them every single day.
04:24I literally wore the life out of them.
04:25PVC plastic is an exceptionally cheap, mass-produced material, making it an interesting choice for budget shoes.
04:33Unfortunately, as you could expect, they are horrible to wear.
04:37They were first manufactured after the Second World War.
04:40But no one cared about them until the 80s when the company Jelly Shoes became widely known.
04:45People criticized them for having a negative environmental impact.
04:49Plus, they're considered some of the most uncomfortable shoes you can get.
04:54The fashion and textile industries make up 9% of ocean microplastic pollution a year,
05:00use about 15,000 chemicals, and take up close to 215 trillion liters of water.
05:07PVC doesn't support your arches, alongside causing sweat, which then leads to blisters and other issues.
05:14After their 80s peak, they've come back a few times, but rarely for longer than a summer.
05:19We've been seeing lots of celebrities rock these as well.
05:22Rihanna's wearing these.
05:23So these are fun, a great fun trend that you can add in.
05:26It's a jam.
05:26I've been waiting for this trend to come back around, so it's great.
05:29My babies have all worn jellies.
05:31Oh, I know.
05:32We never let that go.
05:33Number three most, Levi's 501 jeans.
05:36By 1890, we changed to an inventory system where we used simply three numbers, 501,
05:45that identified this product.
05:47We've remained consistent in our use of it.
05:50It's been over 170 years since Levi Strauss & Co. were established,
05:54and now their denim jeans are known globally.
05:57Specifically, their 501 style, which has been in production since the 19th century.
06:02But the 501 always just remains very simple and classic.
06:06So it's not going to follow the trends, period?
06:09No.
06:09It's something you can rely on.
06:10On their website, newer varieties sell for a few hundred dollars,
06:14which is pretty affordable compared to other entries on our list.
06:18The most expensive were the specific Levi's worn by Kurt Cobain,
06:22which sold for over $400,000 in 2023.
06:26I always say, if only they could talk, what they have witnessed,
06:30the conversations and the craziness on stage and all the things.
06:34And I think of them as a scrapbook.
06:36The wear, how they were customized, all that is part of this American story.
06:41Some of the oldest Levi's jeans were a pair from 1873 found abandoned in a mine in Nevada.
06:48These fetched roughly $100,000 at an auction.
06:52But given their condition, it's unlikely anyone would be wearing them.
06:56Number three least, fake glasses.
06:58Which one of these fake glasses makes me look more highly educated?
07:02This one or this one?
07:05The early 2010s are far enough in the past that many of us feel nostalgic thinking about them.
07:11One bizarre trend from that time we don't miss was fake glasses.
07:15As the name suggests, they serve no purpose other than to look fashionable.
07:20I want her to think I'm smart.
07:22What about fake glasses?
07:24It worked for me.
07:25Many would be marketed as vintage items, but they haven't retained their value in the years since.
07:31Some could sell for up to $500, perplexing the people who needed glasses and hated having to spend so much
07:37on them.
07:38That's with the fake glasses.
07:39As an actual glasses wearer, this is offensive.
07:42It's like non-disabled people who park in handicapped spaces.
07:45Now the bigger trend is blue light glasses, which are intended to protect your eyes against digital screens.
07:51Science has yet to find any clear health benefit from blocking blue light though.
07:56Number two most, vintage Hawaiian shirts.
07:58One old shirt, $1.50.
08:02One classic Hawaiian Aloha shirt, $7.00.
08:06Also known as an Aloha shirt, there are no prizes for guessing where they originated.
08:11They've been about since at least the 1920s, but the most valuable come from around the 40s and 50s.
08:18I look at Aloha shirts as wearable art in the late 40s and 50s.
08:23That's considered the golden age of the wearable art.
08:27All the shirts we have hanging from the ceiling are from that period.
08:31It's because during this era, they were made of rayon, a fiber that made the colors look especially vibrant.
08:38Unfortunately, it had a lot of other issues, like not being environmentally friendly to crafts, leading to it being phased
08:45out.
08:46Such shirts can sell for over an incredible $10,000 at auctions.
08:50Newer shirts are generally made out of cheaper materials.
08:53But there are so many varieties that vintage Hawaiian shirt collecting could become a lifelong hobby.
08:59Once it became my thing, people started giving me Hawaiian shirts and I've just been collecting them.
09:04And this is just a very, very, very small portion.
09:08You have more?
09:08Well, a lot of them got given to Goodwill.
09:11Oh, did they?
09:11Because at one point my wife said, we gotta pair this down.
09:14Number two least, velour tracksuits.
09:17I'm gonna need more of these and I'm gonna make these just a part of my personality at this point.
09:21Cause this is all of my like 2005 dreams come true right now.
09:25Look how cute this zipper is.
09:27I love it. I love it so much.
09:29Track suits are still commonly worn, but those made of velour are a bit more niche.
09:34They first became popular in the late 70s, but we associate them more with the 2000s.
09:40Brands such as Juicy Couture were massive just after the turn of the century, making them a staple of the
09:46Y2K aesthetic.
09:47I have an entire closet that's only Juicy Couture.
09:50It's somewhere I go in every single day and just put on my juice.
09:54If you're really into that style, then you may already own a few velour tracksuits.
09:58Most people aren't though, making them a lesser known nostalgia item.
10:02The Juicy Couture ones were pricey and they had little Swarovski crystals on them.
10:06Oh wow, so it was the thing.
10:07You could really pick them.
10:08And you would wear that out to go to a...
10:10Wherever you wanted an item.
10:11As such, they're not worth much at all anymore.
10:14With official Juicy Couture tracksuits selling for less than $100.
10:19Number 1 Most Vintage Wristwatches
10:22It should come as no surprise that watches are one of the most valuable fashion accessories you can own.
10:28It's a Patek Philippe, so...
10:31It says Patek Philippe.
10:33Yeah.
10:34It's incredibly accurate.
10:36Every time you look at it, it tells you exactly how rich you are.
10:38They've been manufactured since the 16th century.
10:41Meaning now many collectors watches are selling for millions of dollars.
10:46The most expensive ever auctioned was a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime.
10:50Selling for $31 million in 2019.
10:53This was one of the most complex watches ever crafted.
10:57Pushing the limits of how many tiny mechanisms you can fit onto your wrist.
11:01Of course, not all watches cost a fortune.
11:04But if you really want to show off your wealth,
11:06A fancy watch is one of the most common ways to do it.
11:09This is the first time they used diamonds on steel.
11:13So it makes quite a statement.
11:16This is the Mac Daddy.
11:19If you're a serious watch collector and you want to make a statement,
11:22This one doesn't whisper, it screams.
11:25Number 1 Least Pandora Bracelets
11:36This jewelry company used to be so popular that apparently they sold one piece every second in 2011.
11:43They still exist, but their peak is long behind them.
11:46Their customizable bracelets were all the rage in the late 2000s.
11:50But people mostly forgot about them in the 2010s.
11:54So this is the snake bracelet.
11:56And it's like very flexible.
12:00So if you want to add quite a lot of charms, I would go for this one.
12:05Pandora's primary appeal was the customizability of their bracelets.
12:09The bracelets and charms were sold separately, allowing for a ton of personalization.
12:14Pandora would also collaborate with major companies like Disney.
12:18But it wasn't enough to maintain the momentum they used to have.
12:22And now you rarely see them.
12:24Prince?
12:24Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.
12:28All you need is a little bit of magic.
12:31What fashion trend are you most nostalgic for?
12:34And did we mention it today?
12:35Let us know down in the comment section.
