00:05President Roberto Metzola at a high-level political summit held in Armenia.
00:10EU trade chief is scheduled to meet his US counterpart on Tuesday, a few days after Trump
00:16threatened the EU with 25% tariffs.
00:20The US president's decision to slap 25% tariffs on EU cars is aimed squarely at German carmakers,
00:27German MEP Bernd Lange told your news.
00:31A heated verbal clash between Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and European Parliament
00:37President Roberto Metzola erupted on Monday at the European Political Community Summit in
00:42Yerevan.
00:44During his intervention, Aliyev accused the Parliament of, quote, spreading slander and lies about
00:49Azerbaijan and of sabotaging the peace process with Armenia over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
00:55This gathering, instead of supporting the peace process, refers to sabotaging.
01:02Since May 2021, six months after the end of the Second Karabakh War, until 30 April 2026,
01:12European Parliament adopted 14 resolutions full of insults, lies about Azerbaijan.
01:20Just imagine, 14 resolutions in five years, kind of an obsession.
01:27Metzola responded sharply to the remarks made by Aliyev.
01:31I think meetings with a degree of disagreements are always healthy, but I would like to quickly respond
01:38and underline that the European Parliament is a directly elected democratic body with resolutions
01:45that are adopted by majority, understanding that the outcome might be uncomfortable for some,
01:51but we will never change the way we work and defend the positions that we take.
01:55The exchange comes days after Azerbaijan's Parliament said it would cut ties with the European Parliament,
02:01accusing it of waging a, quote, smear campaign.
02:07The EU's trade commissioner is set to meet his US counterpart on Tuesday in Paris,
02:14amid rising tensions over tariffs.
02:16EU trade chief Maros Shechovic is scheduled to meet US Trade Representative Jameson Greer
02:24a few days after the US president said a 25% tariff would be placed on cars imported from the
02:32EU.
02:32Sources told Euronews, however, that Tuesday's meeting was planned prior to Trump's latest tariff threat.
02:39The move would be in breach of a US-EU trade deal that was agreed last summer,
02:45which caps US tariffs on EU goods at 15%.
02:49It led to the European Commission reiterating on Monday that if the US takes measures that are
02:55inconsistent with the deal, all options would remain open.
02:59Trump's threats followed criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the US' stance on Iran,
03:06and came as Washington announced it would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.
03:18US President Donald Trump's decision to slap 25% tariffs on EU cars is politically motivated
03:25and aimed squarely at German carmakers.
03:28German MEP Bernd Lange, chair of the European Parliament's Trade Committee, told Euronews on Monday.
03:34This is a political decision.
03:38He is really angry against Germany.
03:42We just heard it.
03:44And I'm convinced that in this context, he also is targeting specifically German car manufacturers.
03:54And this will perhaps lead to an extra tariff volume from around 15 billion.
04:01So that's really, and of course, there are no legal or no economic reasons for that.
04:09This is really politically against Germany.
04:13Lange's remarks come days after Trump announced the tariffs,
04:16following criticism of the US war in Iran by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
04:21The US President has accused several European countries of refusing to contribute
04:27to Washington's military operations against Iran.
04:30If enacted this week, the measures would breach the 15% ceiling agreed
04:35under a trade deal struck in July 2025
04:38between Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
04:43Lange expressed doubts about the agreement,
04:45which was reached after weeks of trade tensions between Europe and the US,
04:50following Trump's return to power and the launch of a nationalist trade agenda.
04:55I'm not sure that we can really go on Lange said of the deal.
05:02Ukraine launched a drone attack on Moscow overnight,
05:05striking a residential building in the Russian capital.
05:08Moscow's mayor confirmed the incident,
05:10claiming air defenses intercepted the drone and that there were no casualties.
05:15However, photos and videos on social media show visible damage
05:18to the upper floors of the Mosfilm Tower,
05:21a high-end apartment building just 7 kilometers west of Kremlin.
05:25Drone debris was scattered across the street below
05:28as emergency crews worked on the scene.
05:30The incident marks one of the deepest strikes into central Moscow
05:34and comes just days before the Victory Day Parade on May 9.
05:38Russian officials have significantly tightened security,
05:41reportedly transferring hundreds of air defense systems to the capital.
05:45The Kremlin announced this year's parade will be significantly scaled back
05:49due to the current operational situation.
05:57A Dutch couple and another man have died of suspected Hanta virus infection
06:03on a cruise ship in the Atlantic,
06:05while three more have fallen ill.

06:17Meanwhile, a 69-year-old British citizen who has been diagnosed with Hanta virus
06:23is still in intensive care, South African authorities said.
06:27Two crew members aboard the ship are also ill.
06:30Local authorities have boarded the ship to examine those showing symptoms,
06:36according to the shipping company,
06:37while the ship carrying 150 passengers and 70 crew members,
06:42which left Argentina three weeks ago, is moored off Cab Verde.
06:46For the moment, no one is allowed to disembark.
06:49The antivirus is spread by rats and very largely spreads from human to human.
06:58Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is hospitalized in critical but stable condition,
07:05a spokesperson said on Sunday.
07:07The news comes days after the Republican hoarsely told his talk show audience
07:12that his voice was, quote, a little under the weather.
07:15According to his spokesperson, the 81-year-old is battling the health condition,
07:20which turned critical on Sunday.
07:22Reacting to the news U.S. President Donald Trump Giuliani has been a longtime supporter of,
07:29described him as a true warrior and the best mayor in the history of New York City by far.
07:35As Trump's personal attorney and advisor,
07:38Giuliani became a vocal proponent of the president's allegations of fraud in the 2020 election,
07:44won by Democrat Joe Biden.
07:47Giuliani served two terms as mayor of New York City,
07:51most notably leading the city through the 9-11 attacks,
07:54earning him the nickname America's Mayor.
08:00Nine artifacts dating from the 2nd to the 7th century
08:04are being returned to Uzbekistan
08:06after being recovered by the Metropolitan Police in London.
08:09The items were seized in November 2025 during an investigation
08:14codenamed Operation Inherent Vice
08:17after being illegally exported from the country.
08:20They were presented at the Uzbekistan Embassy in London before the transfer.
08:25The objects include statue heads and fragments of gypsum frescoes
08:30linked to periods associated with the Bactrian and Kursan empires.
08:34Obviously, the message is historic, is cultural,
08:40is a lot to do with the historical memory of the Uzbek people
08:44and might serve as a message for more and more such artifacts
08:49to head back to their home country.
08:53The handover took place during an international cultural event in London,
08:57linked to the anniversary program marking 690 years since the birth of Amir Timur.
09:03Discussions during the event focused on international cooperation
09:07to prevent the illicit trafficking of cultural property
09:11and to strengthen legal frameworks for its protection.
09:14The artifacts will be transferred to the Center of Islamic Civilization,
09:18a newly opened museum and research complex in Tuscant.
09:22The center states that the items will be preserved,
09:25studied and displayed as part of its collection.
09:28The current president of the center said the efforts to recover additional artifacts
09:48will continue through cooperation with museums, galleries and auction houses.
09:56At the Foundation Bailer, outside Bazaar,
09:58visitors are swapping their usual etire for swimming costumes.
10:03The Swiss Museum invited art lovers to browse its galleries in their swimwear.
10:09Those who braved the unusual dress code were granted free entry,
10:12saving the usual 25-franc fee.
10:16Some visitors even donned swimming caps and walked around barefoot,
10:20taking time to sunbathe in the museum garden.
10:41The Day of the Baiters event was conceived by the renowned Italian artist Maruzio Cattara.
10:47It is designed to complement the current exhibition of works by French post-impressionist Paul Cézanne.
10:53Cézanne's famous Baiters series depict nude figures integrated into nature,
10:58closely intertwining bodies and the landscape.
11:01The museum says the unusual setting opens a dialogue between art and the viewer,
11:06introducing a touch of humor and freedom.
11:09He wants to be inspired by the nature and expose that organic experience of the nature, of the people.
11:20And I feel that dressing a swimwear, it's close to that because you are almost naked.
11:26Many attendees agree that the concept successfully breaks traditional museum codes.
11:32Organizers hope the playful invention will continue to encourage people to step out their comfort zones
11:37and experience art in a completely new way.
