EU and US trade chiefs to meet as tariff tensions escalate

The Turnberry deal is still under negotiation between EU governments and lawmakers before it can take effect on the EU side, and the Commission warned that if the US takes actions deemed inconsistent with the agreement, it reserves the right to consider all options.

00:00The EU's Trade Commissioner is set to meet his US counterpart on Tuesday in Paris amid
00:07rising tensions over tariffs.

00:25Sources told Euronews, however, that Tuesday's meeting was planned prior to Trump's latest
00:31tariff threat.
00:33The move would be in breach of a US-EU trade deal that was agreed last summer, which caps
00:39US tariffs on EU goods at 15%.
00:42It led to the European Commission reiterating on Monday that if the US takes measures that
00:48are inconsistent with the deal, all options would remain open.
00:52Trump's threats followed criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the US's
00:58stance on Iran and came as Washington announced it would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.
