00:00And Venezuela appeals to the International Court of Justice to defend its historical
00:04rights over Guayana Ezequiva.
00:07The legal delegation led by Foreign Minister Ivan Hill, which is reviewing the contentious
00:11proceedings, reaffirmed that it is participating in the hearing to reaffirm its position of
00:15not recognizing the jurisdiction of the ICJ to settle the dispute since the Geneva Agreement
00:20is in force and establishes that Venezuela and Guyana must sit down to negotiate in a
00:24consensus-based and mutually agreed manner.
00:27Venezuela has reiterated that it will defend its historical rights in any forum and that
00:31the outcome of this international court does not change the substance of the matter, since
00:36the Geneva Agreement, at the time of its signing in 1966, set aside the 1899 Paris Arbitral Award.
