00:01A heated verbal clash between Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and European Parliament
00:07President Roberta Metzola erupted on Monday at the European Political Community Summit
00:12in Yerevan.
00:14During his intervention, Aliyev accused the Parliament of, quote, spreading slander and
00:18lies about Azerbaijan and of sabotaging the peace process with Armenia over the disputed
00:24region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
00:25This gathering, instead of supporting the peace process, refers to sabotaging.
00:32Since May 2021, six months after the end of the Second Karabakh War, until 30 April 2026,
00:42European Parliament adopted 14 resolutions full of insults, lies about Azerbaijan.
00:50Just imagine, 14 resolutions in five years, kind of an obsession.
00:57Metzola responded sharply to the remarks made by Aliyev.
01:01I think meetings with a degree of disagreements are always healthy, but I would like to quickly
01:08respond and underline that the European Parliament is a directly elected democratic body with
01:14resolutions that are adopted by majority, understanding that the outcome might be
01:20uncomfortable for some, but we will never change the way we work and defend the positions that
01:25we take.
01:25The exchange comes days after Azerbaijan's Parliament said it would cut ties with the European Parliament,
01:31accusing it of waging a, quote, smear campaign.
