00:00One of the great voices in New York sports history has passed away.
00:05John Sterling has died.
00:08So did not see that coming.
00:11Obviously, we know he was older, but he had seemed so spry and energetic
00:15the last time we had heard from him.
00:18Definitely just brutal news this morning.
00:22John was as good as it gets, entertained us for so many years,
00:26had so much fun with him.
00:27He was just everything that a play-by-play man should be
00:32in loving his audience, loving the sport, loving the Yankees,
00:36and delivering it in a way that was truly his own
00:39and a voice that certainly will never be forgotten
00:42because a lot of people come through these jobs, come through this city,
00:47and not a lot of them can say that we'll remember them
00:50and reference them for many, many years until we pass away.
00:54And his memory will live on through those calls, through our memories,
01:00as long as we're on this planet.
01:02Tonight's going to be an amazing night at Yankee Stadium.
01:05An ode to John Sterling.
01:07Truly, I mean, entertaining.
01:11And as you said, Gio, he loved the sport.
01:13He loved the Yankees.
01:15And he loved it so much that he lasted as long as he did.
01:19I mean, there are many times where he could have retired, and he didn't.
01:22He stayed right there.
01:24And, man, I'll tell you what, there were moments where he was just amazing.
01:32He reminds me of what Marv Albert used to be with Sam, big Sam for us,
01:39for the Rangers, Sam Rosen.
01:42I mean, just that level of broadcaster that you as a fan become so comfortable with
01:48that when you turn on the game and you hear his voice, it meant something.
