00:25Thank you for listening.
00:58Thank you for listening.
01:00Thank you for listening.
01:09Thank you for listening.
01:39With more agony last season.
01:43Did Julian Alvarez's penalty clip his left boot after it left his right?
01:48Now, a new look at Lettie are back in the final four.
01:53This time, Simeone's side are more fluid, more open, with wingers.
01:58Adam Ola Lutmerna.
02:00The tireless Julian Alvarez leads the line.
02:03Alvarez!
02:04Oh, my word!
02:06The timeless Antoine Griezmann pulls the strings.
02:10Real are gone.
02:11Arsenal await.
02:13And Diego's dynasty could be three games away from its defining glory.
02:19Your commentator is Guy Mowgli.
02:22One year ago, Arsenal got this far, but no further.
02:27TSG were always a challenge one step beyond.
02:31This time, well, the Gunners have a great opportunity to reach the Champions League final for the first time in
02:3720 years.
02:40The Atletico Madrid line-up for this first half of the challenge shows four changes from their La Liga win
02:46against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
02:48Slovakian defender David Hanchko is back from an ankle injury.
02:52Johnny Cardoso replaces the injured Pablo Barrios.
02:55And there are returns after missing the last two games for the former Premier League pair of Adam Ola Lutman
03:01and Julian Alvarez.
03:03For Arsenal, two differences from the weekend against Newcastle.
03:07Gabriel Martinelli and Victor Jokeres come in with Everett Yeza on the bench and Kai Havertz ruled out by a
03:13groin strain.
03:14But Kai Osaka continues his comeback to fitness as a sub, as does Riccardo Calafiore.
03:21Great opportunity for Arsenal.
03:24But for it to come to fruition, they'll have to be absolutely on top of their game this week and
03:29next.
03:32Madweke getting through the gap.
03:37And his view was obscured by Martinelli's attempt to finish.
03:43Really clever from Noni Madweke.
03:45Stood it up.
03:47Over all the striped shirt in defenders.
03:50Maybe Martinelli would have been better.
03:52Leaving it well alone for Incafier.
03:57Strange form, Atletico Madrid, lately.
04:00They beat Atletico Bilbao on the weekend.
04:033-2 at home.
04:04That came after a run of four La Liga defeats in a row.
04:09Here's Matula Chari.
04:11Chari to fire it across towards Alvarez.
04:15Alvarez stepping away from the tackles.
04:18Oh, that's a brilliant effort.
04:20Well saved, David Ryan.
04:24How Alvarez had the strength and awareness to get this sort of quality shot away is beyond me.
04:30But Raya watching like a hawk every step of it.
04:38Griezmann.
04:40Rogeri.
04:42He's headed over the bar by Alvarez.
04:47One shot saved.
04:48One header too high.
04:5019 goals this season.
04:53Nine of those have come in the Champions League.
04:56Which is a club record in a season.
04:59Koke.
05:01Luckman beat to it.
05:02Oedegaard takes over.
05:04Madweke now.
05:05Madweke having a look at...
05:07Goal!
05:08Not far away from it.
05:10I think Oblak knew he was going wide.
05:13Well that's a great sign for Arsenal if Norley Madweke is willing to have one look up and only think
05:19about the shot.
05:21Had the chance to square the ball.
05:23Zubi Mendy was there.
05:23Martinelli was close.
05:25Looking at that, maybe Oblak wasn't so sure.
05:28He went for it.
05:33Alvarez has gifted Arsenal ball.
05:35Giving it to Zubi Mendy.
05:37Zubi Mendy again.
05:38Jocherez!
05:39Goes down and the referee gives Arsenal a penalty.
05:47Atleti players surround the referee.
05:49Simeone's fingers wagging too in front of the fourth official.
05:53Jocherez' positioning was excellent.
05:55Getting in front of the defender.
05:56Waiting for the contact which was inevitable.
05:59Look at Hatchko's hands, they're wrapped around Jocherez.
06:05It is an Arsenal penalty.
06:08Victor Jocherez is on the spot.
06:11It's a huge moment in this semi-final tie.
06:16Jocherez.
06:18Jocherez fires in.
06:43Jocherez fires in.
06:48Arsenal are likely to have to weather a storm in a football sense and a very real sense.
06:54There's been thunder and lightning around in the air.
06:57There's been thunder and lightning around in the air.
07:23I think the rain's coming.
07:24It's going to fall and making sure the contact was there.
07:27It's going to be Alvarez who's going to take on the shot.
07:32And now it's Adamola Lohmann.
07:32Side netting struck.
07:34Many in the Metropolitano thought it pulled off a wonderstrike there.
07:40And he got the curl as he intended.
07:43Just a little bit more needed.
07:44Don't think the keeper's getting there.
07:46Diego Simeone.
07:47He will have a plan.
07:48Those black suited sleeves.
07:52Lovely little touch there from Antoine Griezmann.
07:55And now it's Adamola Lohmann.
07:57Straight to Ryan.
07:59Griezmann's effort.
08:01And his second one is safe somehow.
08:05Top reactions from Ryan.
08:09First safe from Ryan.
08:10He was ready for whatever came next but Gabriel did it for him.
08:15Can't he go deep with that?
08:16Really deep.
08:17And Saliba puts him behind for another one on the other side.
08:22That was a follow-up attempt from Antoine Griezmann.
08:26Could only kick out at the frame of the goal in frustration.
08:36Griezmann.
08:37Griezmann.
08:37Now to Llorente.
08:39And ball shouts.
08:41Strong handball shouts.
08:43They're not going to let that go lightly.
08:46The referee didn't see it but the cameras will have done if it happens.
08:56It's Ben White.
08:59It was a sinner from Llorente.
09:01Look how far the hands away from the body.
09:03That is going to be an Atletico Madrid penalty.
09:08The hand left angling.
09:10The ball hits the hand.
09:11Penalty.
09:11Atletico is coming.
09:23David Raya gets his instructions.
09:25I don't think he's faced a penalty at all this season.
09:29The last one was in last year's Champions League semi-final.
09:35At PSG in the second leg.
09:37And he saved it from Vitinha.
09:41Julian Alvarez.
09:42He's scored his last four penalties.
09:45He's nine out of ten for Atleti all told.
09:48He's put in a nine out of ten performance so far tonight.
09:51This might take him to top marks.
09:56And it does.
09:58Raya could only watch.
10:01That's an exceptional conversion of the penalty.
10:04And it might just be the kick that turns the tide.
10:12That's fantastic.
10:14Raya was grasping thin air.
10:17Just a slight wave of the right hand.
10:19See you later.
10:19Not getting near you.
10:22He got to 25 Champions League goals in 41 games.
10:26Faster than any other Argentinian player.
10:28Which means yes.
10:30Faster than Messi.
10:31He got to 25 in 42 games.
10:33And faster than Sergio Aguero.
10:35He took 48.
10:40Luckman.
10:41Out of his feet to Griezmann.
10:44Raya was beat by that.
10:45In comes Cardoso.
10:46Now it's Ruggieri.
10:48Griezmann again.
10:49Deflected wide.
10:53Arsenal clinging on.
10:56The storm has come.
10:59What an effort that is.
11:01From the evergreen Antoine Griezmann.
11:32That was a test that was too ambitious.
11:33Knap.
11:37Knap.
11:39Knap.
11:39Here's Declan Rice.
11:40Can he move into an advantageous position.
11:45Hide Saka.
11:49He's got there first inning.
11:51He did.
11:53Penalty again for Arsenal.
11:57That came out of nowhere.
11:59And have a look here.
12:01Saka into Eze.
12:03Look where his boot is.
12:04It's on the ball.
12:05That prevented Henschko's boot getting onto the ball.
12:08He had to go through Eze.
12:09Yeah it's only a tiny touch.
12:11But by the standards of everything we see in the top leagues.
12:15It's a touch enough.
12:18Well I wouldn't want to make this decision.
12:20Is that enough to force Eze off balance into the floor.
12:26Here we go.
12:28No penalty.
12:30Oh Mick and Arteta will be livid.
12:37Simeone is relieved.
12:39It's come up on screen now.
12:42Athletic player number 17 did not commit a foul on the opponent.
12:45But there you go.
12:46Short and sweet.
12:47Well that will be talked about.
12:52Eze.
12:56It's not getting stronger again.
13:01Mosquera.
13:02Eze.
13:03It's come back to Mosquera.
13:05Up in the air from Oblak.
13:07Saka into the mix.
13:10Trossard.
13:13An absorbing first leg.
13:15It's been tense from the start.
13:17Second leg will only be worse.
13:19Atletico Madrid 1.
13:21Arsenal 1.
13:23I mean the whole sequence starts the story.
13:25I mean it's a clear contact.
13:26You make that decision.
13:27You can't overturn that decision.
13:29When you have to look at it 13 times.
13:31It's just at this level.
13:32It's completely unacceptable.
13:34Obviously it's a wrong decision.
13:35And it changes the course of the time.
13:38The referees in the end he chucked it.
13:41And he decided that it wasn't.
13:43And we agree with him.
13:45I think in the first half we controlled the game quite well I think.
13:50And had a few good opportunities to score.
13:54Managed to score out of one of them.
13:56And then I think in the second half they started much better.
14:00Maybe they served to get a goal eventually.
14:03And yeah tough game.
14:05We know it's a tough place to come.
14:07But yeah it's only half time.
14:08We are in an incredible position.
14:10Semifinal of the Champions League.
14:12We have to play in front of our people.
14:13It's in our hands.
14:15And that's it.
14:16And I recover and Fulham.
14:18But there's only one place to start.
14:20And Stephen we're going to start with you on the Eza penalty.
14:23Which was given on the pitch.
14:25And then obviously overruled.
14:27And there was a little bit of discord and disagreement when we were watching this live wasn't there?
14:31Yeah I think this is going to split opinion.
14:33I really do.
14:33I think there's going to be a lot of people watching at home thinking I can see contact.
14:37I think when you see the initial sort of angle here.
14:41You do think there is a touch on Eza's foot.
14:45And you see it as he steps across there.
14:48I just don't think there's enough contact.
14:51If any contact.
14:52Now that one looks like there is enough.
14:54And it looks like there's clear contact.
14:57But you've got to challenge for the ball at some point.
14:59You've got to go toe to toe if you like.
15:02That one there is the one that you watch.
15:04And you think there's not enough contact.
15:07And Eza almost expects it to happen.
15:10And invites the challenge.
15:11And then goes down.
15:12And so for me I don't think there's enough to give a penalty in that incident.
15:17I think you've described that very very well.
15:19But like in a kind of safe way.
15:20Because you don't think it's enough to give a penalty.
15:22But I think for most people the discussion is around.
15:24Is it enough to overturn the penalty?
15:27That's the issue.
15:27Yeah.
15:28Because when we first saw it.
15:29And this is myself included.
15:30I thought you know it's a penalty.
15:32Yeah.
15:33But the more I sort of watched it back.
15:34Like that bit there makes it really clear and obvious.
15:38And he's going to be stepping onto Eze's foot.
15:40Onto Eberra's foot.
15:41But the fact is like it doesn't finish that way.
15:43Then you start to see some more angles.
15:45And you start to sort of doubt yourself.
15:47And I think in some ways the video system referee has probably done a good job by allowing the referee
15:50a chance to see it again.
15:52Yeah.
15:52And the referee could have said it's still a penalty.
15:54But the fact that he didn't means that he didn't see enough.
15:56Had he stuck with his decision do you think you know it wouldn't have been perhaps on field you know
16:02and not gone and looked again.
16:04Do you think that would have been the fair decision?
16:07Would that have been right?
16:08Would you have been happy with that?
16:09I've got a bit lost now with what we're meant to be doing with penalties.
16:13To me that isn't a clear and obvious error which I think is still the bar.
16:16They may have changed it several times since this programme started.
16:19But that's not a clear and obvious error.
16:20You can see why he's made that decision.
16:22There is one angle where it looks like there's contact.
16:23Yeah.
16:24And there's a couple where to be honest you can't really tell.
16:26Because the shot's not right.
16:28I'm surprised it was overturned.
16:30Sorry.
16:31Overturned by him.
16:32By the referee.
16:33Because you're talking about the VAR now.
16:35You're surprised that the VAR have called a name.
16:37No no it's the referee's decision.
16:38But it does seem to be the case that if the VAR calls the referee over.
16:41We could spend a lot more time on this.
16:42We've got loads of penalties.
16:43Okay.
16:44What's next?
16:45Yeah.
16:45Well we're going to go straight to Ben White's handball actually.
16:48And Nedim you can have a little look at this.
16:49Because there is consistency in the inconsistent interpretation of the rules.
16:54Yeah there's a disappointing consistency with the way that UEFA handballs are given.
17:00And I think as far as the game goes.
17:01If your arm is anywhere away from anybody at all.
17:04Doesn't matter whether it flicks off your leg.
17:06You know flicks off somebody else.
17:06If it hits your arm.
17:07It seems like the referee is going to give these decisions.
17:10And they seem very quick to be able to do so.
17:11And even we saw yesterday with Alphonso Davies.
17:15Because it's come off his leg and it's hit his arm.
17:17Usman de Bele is adamant that's a penalty.
17:19If we're in the Premier League and we see that.
17:21That's not going to be given as a penalty.
17:22I think most people say that's not a penalty.
17:24But in Europe the consistency is there.
17:26Because that was yesterday.
17:28This was today.
17:28And if there's another one in the next few games.
17:30We'll be given again.
17:30And to be fair to Arteta.
17:31He did say after the game.
17:33That UEFA have been really consistent.
17:35That that is a penalty in UEFA competitions.
17:37Which I think most of us probably disagree with.
17:38What's strange for me is that it relies on a really strict interpretation of IFAB's rules.
17:43The body that sets the actual laws.
17:46UEFA seems to have taken that really literally.
17:50Which I don't think they have to do.
17:51That's a conscious choice.
17:52But that feels to me like a punishment outweighing a crime.
17:55And it's not consistent with how we see the Premier League operate, is it?
17:59But obviously we're going to break up the penalty incident, Stephen.
18:02Actually there is another one to come.
18:03Don't worry.
18:03But you are going to look at the fact that actually the second half played out very differently for Atletico.
18:07Because of a tactical tweak.
18:10Yeah.
18:10And at half time they decided to take Simeone off.
18:13And bring on Robin Lamont.
18:15And they went to a back five.
18:17And you see here Luckman and Llorente were the wide players.
18:20Griezmann and Alvarez become the forward two.
18:22The link up between these two players.
18:23And it was almost 4v4, if you like, going forward.
18:27And it caused Arsenal problems.
18:29Luckman got in here.
18:30You see Griezmann had an opportunity as it falls back to him.
18:34It's a really good block from Gabriel.
18:35But the way that they set themselves up, they had the two wing-backs.
18:40But Ruggieri on this left-hand side and Llorente on the right.
18:44And Ruggieri's got brilliant movement.
18:45He's got athleticism.
18:46But Luckman's position, that touch is absolutely brilliant.
18:49But it causes a problem now for right-sided centre-half, right-back.
18:53They're scared of Luckman.
18:55And then Ruggieri plays that ball in.
18:56Griezmann hits the bar off this opportunity.
18:58So they were spreading the back line of Arsenal as much as they could in certain situations.
19:05And then you see the two forward players really stretching the game here.
19:08You'll see the way that Atletico players drop deep.
19:12And now you've got runners in behind.
19:14And you've got spaces in behind that midfield.
19:17Lovely little ball from Griezmann in behind.
19:19And then runners beyond.
19:20And it just felt that Atletico made sure that they isolated in 1v1 situations.
19:26Luckman possibly should do a little bit better here.
19:28Maybe has a little bit more time.
19:30But when you look at Luckman in 1v1 situations, he's just brilliant in here.
19:34Arsenal defend it well.
19:35But watch the way that they ring-fence it.
19:37They make it so difficult to get out.
19:40And then you'll see here, Hanko steps in, wins the ball back.
19:43And then they're on the attack again.
19:45And then they get a strike and a goal from Molina.
19:47But the way that Arsenal sort of struggled in this second half was much to the credit of Diogo Simeone.
19:55Well, they were absolutely taken out of the game, weren't they?
19:57They were nullified.
19:58Any kind of threat that came from them.
19:59Look at that.
19:59You know, that is incredible.
20:01That is between the 45th and the 84th.
20:03Because actually they rallied a bit in the last 10 minutes or so, didn't they?
20:06Yeah, the Eze penalty actually seemed to take the sting out of Atletico a little bit.
20:09They lost their way a little bit for maybe five or ten minutes after that.
20:12And had a bit of another sort of surge right towards the end.
20:16But I think in that sort of half an hour period, Simeone will have seen enough, particularly from Griezmann, to
20:22think they can hurt Arsenal in London.
20:24The question might have been Julian Alvarez went off injured.
20:26If he doesn't play, that's a massive boost for Arsenal.
20:29He had four shots and eight touches in the opposition box, Griezmann.
20:32So, yeah, he really did in those 40 minutes or so come to life, didn't he, for them?
20:37It all started for Arsenal from Jokeres and a penalty that he won and then scored.
20:43Let's have a look at his first half, shall we?
20:45For sure, yeah.
20:46I think his first half was really good.
20:47And it's what Arsenal needed because it's a tough place to come.
20:49But you need some of that strength, some of that physicality and the direct play that he has here running
20:53down that left-hand side.
20:54Like Llorence, the full-back for Atletico Chesum there.
20:57He's big, he's strong, but Jokeres is stronger.
20:58What I like is the fact that it finishes with a great ball back to Odegaard.
21:02In a different moment, maybe Odegaard scores that.
21:04But here we see how he wins that penalty.
21:06And he finds himself in a good position and immediately opens up his body to the goal.
21:10And the defender's in the wrong position, but Jokeres, with the strength that he has and the position that he
21:14has,
21:14means that he has to be fouled.
21:16And then once he gets up, he's got a chance to go and take that penalty.
21:19I think Oblak, the goalkeeper, has probably created somewhat of a gap between his arms there.
21:23Yeah.
21:24But the strike from Jokeres certainly was there.
21:25And at half-time, Arsenal were winning 1-0.
21:27And I think, for the most part, it's down to Jokeres.
21:29And they are going to need him.
21:31Obviously, Havertz is out now.
21:32And they've got a very, very important few weeks ahead.
21:36So, a performance like that and the contribution that he made tonight is heartening, obviously, for Mikel Arteta, isn't it?
21:42Yeah, it is to a certain degree.
21:43I just think he's more suited to away games.
21:45I think he's better at being your focal point, holding the ball up, drawing fouls him, making life difficult.
21:50When you're going to be asked to dominate the ball at home in the next game,
21:54is he capable of doing that?
21:56Is he capable of scoring that important goal?
21:58He scores a lot of penalties, Jokeres, but he needs to make sure he's getting in better positions to score
22:04from open play.
22:05He's on 19 goals now.
22:06The only players ahead of him are Thiago and Haaland, who's way, way, way ahead.
22:10And that's what they brought him in to do, wasn't it?
22:12Score 20-plus goals this season.
22:13Yeah, it's funny.
22:14That's what we sort of thought they might need to get over the line of the title, was a $20,
22:18$25 season strikeout.
22:19It's only 12 in the Premier League, so it depends where you want your $20 to be.
22:23It just feels as though he is a little bit short of that kind of absolute elite level from this
22:28first season.
22:29Maybe next season he's better when he's settled a little bit more.
22:31But at the moment, I'm not sure he's quite in that class that maybe Arsenal fans were expecting.
22:36Is that a scoreline that Mikel Arteta tonight will feel comfortable with taking back to the Emirates next week?
22:42I think so. I think so.
22:43I think we showed earlier how much they suffered in that second half.
22:45And the fact that they came away from the game with a 1-1 draw,
22:48knowing you're going to have 60,000 of your own fans in that second leg next week.
22:52I think overall he'll take it because he knows he wasn't perfect, but they can get better.
22:55OK. Brace yourselves, guys, and settle in for this one.
23:00I mean, this is why you've stayed up, isn't it?
23:01Holders PSG taking on six-time winners Bayern Munich ahead of last night's game.
23:06They were the two highest-scoring teams in the competition, and they did not let us down.
23:11Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
23:14A match-up which would have been fit for the final again.
23:18Bayern have actually won each of their last five UEFA matches against PSG,
23:24including a win here on match day four this season.
23:27But Paris Saint-Germain won the FIFA Club World Cup meeting in Atlanta in July,
23:32when Luis Hernandez and William Pacho were sent off,
23:35and Musiala broke his leg and dislocated his ankle.
23:39Safe to say that there is history.
23:42The only real decision for Luis Enrique was Barcola or Due.
23:46As expected, he's gone with Due.
23:48So no changes from the second-leg victory at Anfield.
23:51Barcola on the bench,
23:52where the return of Fabian Ruiz from a knee injury has bolstered their options.
23:58The last club to successfully defend the Champions League
24:01was Real Madrid eight years ago.
24:05Vincent Kompany, who is suspended for tonight's game after three yellow cards,
24:09makes two changes to the XI,
24:11which saw off Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarterfinal.
24:15He fit again Musiala for Gnabry
24:17and Alphonso Davies for Lima at left-back.
24:23After huge anticipation,
24:26it's arguably the two most informed sides in Europe
24:30who meet up in the semi-final first leg.
24:37Zaire Emery,
24:39Paritz-Galier,
24:40his danger.
24:41Davies got his head on it.
24:43Luis Diaz has it for Bayern
24:44and he'll charge away downfield.
24:47Luis Diaz ploughing a bit of a lone furrow,
24:49but Olise is to his right-hand side
24:51and he looks to use Michael Olise.
24:55Harry Kane,
24:57Kimmich,
25:00and touched off beautifully for Luis Diaz.
25:02William Pacho,
25:03it's a penalty kick.
25:05William Pacho lunged at Luis Diaz
25:08and the referee,
25:10Sandro Pacho,
25:10says penalty.
25:12It's a brilliant run by Luis Diaz.
25:16Kimmich
25:18touched off to
25:21Luis Diaz.
25:22William Pacho says he got the ball.
25:25Well,
25:26he certainly did get the ball with the second movement,
25:29but not with the first.
25:32Penalty
25:33to Bayern
25:34Munich.
25:35And you know what this means.
25:38It means Harry Kane
25:42scores for the 54th time this season
25:48and more importantly
25:49gives Bayern the lead in the semi-final.
25:56Absolutely no doubt about it at all.
26:00Sending Safanov the wrong way.
26:03Harry Kane
26:04and Bayern
26:05strike first
26:06in this semi-final.
26:11Doing it,
26:13toff it.
26:13No foul.
26:14Here's Harry Kane.
26:15Olise to his right.
26:17Olise!
26:18Massive moment
26:20off the line
26:21by Marquinhos
26:22after
26:22Safanov had
26:23half-smothered the shot.
26:29Olise goes to ground.
26:31It's no foul.
26:32Well,
26:33it was very nearly
26:33two in two minutes here.
26:35That is such a crucial stop.
26:38Took all the pace off it,
26:39allowing Marquinhos
26:41to make sure
26:42it didn't sneak in.
26:44That's a really,
26:45really big let-off
26:45for Harry Saint-Germain.
26:53That's a great ball.
26:54Dembele will reach this.
26:56Dembele for PSG.
26:57He's put it way wide
26:58of goal.
26:59Way wide of goal
27:01from Ousmane Dembele.
27:03When you can
27:04scarcely believe
27:06that he's missed it
27:07and missed it
27:08by so much.
27:17That's a good ball.
27:18Trainscalier is in behind.
27:19Stanisic Dembele
27:20in the middle.
27:21Trainscalier will come inside
27:22if he can.
27:23And he can!
27:26Can't he just!
27:28He's done it again!
27:30Trainscalier
27:31with another
27:32brilliant goal.
27:34What a great ball
27:36by Due
27:36to knock it over the top
27:37of Stanisic.
27:38He knew he was
27:39in trouble here.
27:40And knowing what
27:41Trainscalier is going to do
27:42is very, very different
27:44from stopping him doing it.
27:46That is fantastic.
27:48PSG won,
27:49Bayern won.
27:50We've only played
27:5125 minutes
27:53of this semi-final.
27:54We could easily,
27:56easily
27:57have had two goals apiece.
28:03Luis Diaz.
28:14He's got away from
28:15Nuno Mendes again.
28:16He's done that
28:16two or three times.
28:17Takes on Marquinhos.
28:19Goes along the by-landing,
28:20hits the post
28:21and Safanov
28:22clutches it.
28:23Well, he's so full of pace,
28:24so full of tricks,
28:25so full of confidence.
28:26Got away from Nuno Mendes
28:27and from Marquinhos.
28:29Kept the ball in play
28:30and it rebounded
28:31onto the post
28:32off João Neves.
28:33Now here's Desiree Doué
28:35and that is only just wide.
28:37He wants a corner.
28:39What about this game?
28:40You cannot take your eyes off it.
28:42Brilliant from Desiree Doué.
28:44I think he has a case there.
28:45He just flicked off the toe
28:46of Jonathan Tarr's boot
28:48and it is a corner
28:49to Paris Saint-Germain.
28:52Dembele is going to take this.
28:56And it's in!
29:01Nuno Mendes with the header.
29:03Paris Saint-Germain 2.
29:04Bayern Munich 1.
29:07And they've turned it around.
29:09The European champions.
29:13Nuno Mendes with the header.
29:16He makes that run.
29:18And Musiala didn't really go with him.
29:21Didn't get tight enough.
29:23It's a brilliant header.
29:25And Neuer could not quite
29:28get his fingertips to it.
29:3035 minutes into this
29:32enthralling semi-final
29:34which is promising
29:36to become one of the classics
29:38of its type.
29:41Dembele's pass is glorious.
29:43It's Desiree Doué!
29:47Well, some of the football
29:49in the first half
29:50of the first leg
29:51of this semi-final
29:53has been from another planet
29:55from both sides.
29:57Absolutely brilliant.
30:06Olisse in a really good position.
30:09Olisse!
30:10Brilliant!
30:11Brilliant!
30:13Brilliant!
30:16What a game!
30:19What a game!
30:21It's 2-2!
30:24And these two sides
30:26are really serving up
30:27something sensational here
30:28for both the best form
30:30of defence's attack
30:32and this has been
30:33one of the best
30:34first halves of football
30:35you could ask to see.
30:43Karetscalia
30:46Dembele
30:48and they're claiming
30:49a penalty

31:14I mean that movement

31:18is making himself
31:19bigger
31:19which you're not
31:20allowed to do
31:20but it does flick
31:22off his midriff
31:23he's giving it
31:26it's a penalty
31:27to Paris Saint-Germain
31:28in the last seconds

38:1724
38:17hours
38:18reflection
38:20honestly
38:21I can't
38:21say
38:21it's
38:22just
38:22memorable
38:23isn't
38:23it
38:23you know
38:24that's
38:24one of
38:24the best
38:25performances
38:25in games
38:26that I've
38:26seen from
38:26an attacking
38:27standpoint
38:27and what I
38:28love is
38:28like
38:28Vincent
38:29company
38:29who wasn't
38:29even able
38:30to be
38:30on the
38:30sideline
38:31there
38:31as a
38:32defender
38:32legendary
38:33defender
38:33in the
38:33Premier League
38:34he's seen
38:34his side
38:35concede
38:35five goals
38:36and he can
38:36see by
38:37the look
38:37in his
38:37eyes
38:37he's
38:37very confident
38:38for the
38:38next week
38:38he's
38:39doubling
38:39down
38:40tripling
38:41the highest
38:41praise I
38:42can give
38:42is that
38:42I felt
38:43quite guilty
38:43sending my
38:44son to
38:44bed at
38:44half time
38:46he said
38:47the second
38:47half will
38:47never be

41:17so many
41:18problems

41:20thing is

41:27you've
41:27also

41:40understandably
41:41full
41:41of
41:41praise
41:41for
41:50return
41:50leg
41:51should
41:51be
41:51another
41:52thriller
41:52the
41:53headline
41:53in
41:53build
41:54is
41:54thanks
41:54for
41:55this
41:55football
41:55night
41:55but
41:56the
41:56German
41:56tabloid
41:57also
41:57says
41:57that
41:57Bayern
41:58gave
41:58PSG
41:58too
41:59much
41:59space
42:01so
42:01Stephen's
42:02very
42:02brilliantly
42:03articulated
42:04how it's
42:04not actually
42:05a front
42:05three
42:05there's
42:06a four
42:06there
42:07are you
42:07going to
42:07tell us
42:07the same
42:08thing
42:08for PSG
42:09about their
42:09attack
42:09listen I like
42:10your front
42:10three
42:11I'll raise
42:11your mind
42:14and I think
42:15it's really
42:17clever in terms
42:17of how they
42:17do it
42:18because they're
42:18one of the
42:18best attacking
42:19sides in
42:20in European
42:21football
42:21and in these
42:22three they're
42:22so dynamic
42:23so good on
42:23the ball
42:24but there's
42:24an awareness
42:24about running
42:25into space
42:25as well
42:26this here
42:26from
42:27when he
42:27gets the
42:28ball
42:28and as
42:28soon as
42:29he gets
42:29it there
42:29he's
42:29thinking
42:30about
42:30end
42:30products
42:31and just
42:31a little
42:32touch
42:32there
42:32takes
42:32it
42:32to the
42:33side
42:33and what
42:33an
42:33incredible
42:34finish
42:34and this
42:35is how
42:35they play
42:35throughout
42:35the
42:36game
42:36and it's
42:36not just
42:36the
42:36front
42:37three
42:37it's
42:37Hakimi
42:38the right
42:38back
42:38always
42:39coming to
42:39support
42:39the play
42:40through
42:40here
42:40now
42:41Desiree
42:41one of
42:41the quickest
42:42players
42:42on the
42:42pitch
42:43he finds
42:43the space
42:43and now
42:44here come
42:45the front
42:45three
42:45again
42:45trailed
42:46on the
42:46far
42:46side
42:47by
42:47Hakimi
42:48and the
42:48danger
42:49they can
42:49bring
42:49in what
42:50feels like
42:50a split
42:51second
42:51and it
42:51always
42:52ends
42:52with a
42:52shot
42:53with an
42:53assist
42:54or you
42:54know
42:54with a
42:55goal
42:55and it's
42:56so so
42:56impressive
42:56the energy
42:57that they
42:57have
42:58the skill
42:58that they
42:58have
42:58the timing
42:59the combinations
43:00again this
43:01start off
43:01in the
43:01defensive
43:01third
43:02but we
43:02blink
43:03and before
43:03you know
43:03it
43:04Desiree
43:04is going
43:04through
43:05on the
43:06Bayern Munich
43:06goal
43:06and he's
43:07unlucky to
43:07just drag
43:08this shot
43:08wide
43:08but I'll
43:09be honest
43:09I would
43:10have hated
43:10to play
43:11against
43:11players like
43:11this
43:11they're so
43:12sharp
43:13so clever
43:13so composed
43:14and the
43:15organisation
43:16and the
43:16time and
43:17understanding
43:17when to
43:17go
43:18when not
43:18to go
43:18and an
43:19appreciation
43:20for the
43:20pass here
43:21Hakimi
43:21goes down
43:21the right
43:22hand side
43:22he plays
43:22it into
43:23the box
43:23first time
43:24finish
43:24for
43:25Clarice
43:25Gellier
43:25second goal
43:26of the
43:26game
43:26and the
43:27quality
43:27they have
43:27as I say
43:28it's
43:29breathtaking
43:34and now
43:34here's real
43:35danger
43:36because it's
43:37Desiree
43:37Dway
43:37because it's
43:38Usman
43:38Dembele
43:38and even
43:39though
43:39Bayern have
43:39players back
43:40he's buying
43:40his time
43:41to protect
43:41the ball
43:42then he gives
43:42the ball
43:42to the
43:43Ballon d'Or
43:43winner
43:44in Dembele
43:44and he hits
43:45the finish
43:45straight through
43:46the legs
43:46of the
43:46Meccano
43:47and that
43:48is a
43:48huge goal
43:49I know
43:50Steven's
43:50front three
43:50was really
43:51good
43:51but to be
43:52honest
43:52I think
43:52my front
43:53three
43:53got five
43:53goals
43:53yesterday
43:55Hakimi
43:56is going
43:56to miss
43:56the second
43:57leg
43:57we don't
43:57know
43:58quite how
43:58long
43:58he's going
43:59to be
43:59out for
43:59undoubtedly
44:00he will
44:01be a miss
44:02they do
44:02have other
44:02players to
44:03come in
44:03of course
44:03but let's
44:04have a word
44:05on Luis Enrique
44:06and what
44:07he has
44:07built here
44:08and he's
44:08now the
44:09fastest
44:09manager
44:10to get
44:10to 50
44:11Champions
44:11League
44:12wins
44:12and that
44:12is an
44:13illustrious
44:13list
44:13he sits
44:14in there
44:14of those
44:15behind him
44:17can he
44:17do this
44:18with any
44:18other group
44:18of players
44:19could they
44:19play that
44:19way
44:19this is
44:20just such
44:20a special
44:21combination
44:21of players
44:22not just
44:23their talent
44:23their speed
44:24their fitness
44:24everything about
44:25the fluidity
44:26because his name
44:27is going
44:27to be banded
44:28around isn't
44:28it with all
44:29the big jobs
44:30over the next
44:30few years
44:31I think he
44:32needs players
44:33of an incredibly
44:34high level
44:35obviously I don't
44:35think he could
44:35do it in
44:36like League
44:362 necessarily
44:37but
44:38the Premier
44:39League
44:39obviously
44:39yeah I think
44:40he could
44:40if you think
44:40about his
44:41Barcelona team
44:42which is always
44:42a bit overlooked
44:43as we think
44:43of Barca as
44:44Guardiola's
44:45construction
44:46but the team
44:46that won the
44:47Champions League
44:47in 2015
44:47was Luis Enrique's
44:49masterpiece
44:49the Messi
44:50Neymar Suarez
44:51131 dollar
44:52season
44:53trio
44:54it was the same
44:55it was that
44:55sort of
44:56interchanging of
44:56positions
44:56it was the
44:57fluidity
44:57it was the
44:58speed
44:58they did
44:58everything at
44:59and what he
44:59won't have
45:00if he came
45:00to the Premier
45:01League
45:01is quite
45:01that help
45:02that he
45:02gets sometimes
45:03with the
45:03fixtures
45:04and how
45:04they're able
45:05to move
45:05games
45:06to create
45:07a bit more
45:07space between
45:08Champions League's
45:08fixtures
45:09which they get
45:09in League
45:10and also
45:11to be able
45:12to rest
45:13players
45:13in the way
45:14he does
45:14and you
45:15look at
45:15how many
45:16minutes
45:16his top
45:17players
45:17have played
45:18and it's
45:19quite significant
45:20isn't it
45:21in terms
45:21of their
45:22rest time
45:22yeah and
45:23this is the
45:23this is the
45:2311 who
45:24started last night
45:24Zaire Emery's
45:25a slightly
45:25strange one
45:26because he's
45:26been playing
45:27as Fabian Ruiz
45:27has been injured
45:28but everybody
45:29else you know
45:29you're looking
45:30at kind of
45:3016-17 full
45:31games they've
45:32played in
45:32League
45:33this season
45:34compared to
45:34the Premier
45:35League teams
45:35particularly
45:36Arsenal
45:36obviously
45:36being left
45:37in the
45:38Champions League
45:38that is
45:39a relatively
45:40easy workload
45:40offset a bit
45:41by the Club
45:41World Cup
45:42last summer
45:42because obviously
45:42they made
45:43the final
45:43so they didn't
45:44have a break
45:44but then they
45:45had a very
45:45slow start
45:46to the league
45:46phase
45:46didn't they
45:47they can
45:47kind of
45:47afford to
45:48take it
45:48easier a little
45:49bit in the
45:49league as well
45:50because they are
45:51so much stronger
45:52they're so much
45:52richer than
45:52all their
45:53rivals and
45:53you know
45:53the most
45:54league minutes
45:55played outfield
45:55this season
45:56of the teams
45:57left in the
45:57semi-finals
45:58the top four
45:58players are
45:59all Arsenal
45:59players
46:00however for as
46:00much as that
46:01is a good
46:01point I think
46:02you look at
46:03say those
46:03Arsenal players
46:03have played
46:04all those
46:04minutes
46:04they could
46:05have been
46:05rotated better
46:06throughout the
46:06season
46:07so for as
46:08much as
46:08yes they
46:09you know
46:10have played
46:10fewer games
46:12I think there
46:13are some
46:13managers that
46:14like to
46:14maintain a
46:15consistent
46:15not necessarily
46:16starting 11
46:16but 5 or 6
46:17players and that's
46:18what we've seen
46:18in Varteta
46:18but then come
46:19the end of
46:20the season
46:20maybe that's
46:20why sometimes
46:21they'll fall
46:22away I don't
46:22know if it'll
46:22be this season
46:23but maybe that
46:23I feel like
46:24we've gone too
46:25far away from
46:25what a brilliant
46:26game that was
46:27sorry my bad
46:27no no I've
46:28led you down
46:28that path
46:29we're going to
46:29come right back
46:30into the moment
46:31because Rory's
46:32been going back
46:33through the history
46:34of the competition
46:35because many people
46:36saying this is the
46:36greatest game in
46:37Champions League
46:38history
46:38well there are
46:39some contenders
46:40on Rory's list
46:41and so let the
46:42debate begin
46:43I mean Stephen
46:43came in today
46:44into the office
46:44and said the
46:45greatest game of all
46:45time
46:46we're just putting it
46:46in Champions League
46:47parameters here
46:48I just thought it
46:49was brilliant
46:49I mean the
46:50quality on show
46:51and the way that
46:53they think so
46:54quickly on the
46:55pitch they react
46:56to things whether
46:56it's defensively
46:57offensively I
46:58thought the game
46:59was absolutely
46:59brilliant I mean
47:00the standout game
47:01for me on Rory's
47:02list is obviously
47:03Istanbul AC Milan
47:05versus Liverpool
47:05I think it's
47:06arguably the greatest
47:07final that we've
47:07ever seen such a
47:09story around it
47:10but in terms of
47:11quality of what we
47:12actually saw on the
47:13pitch I think last
47:14night's game was
47:15just phenomenal
47:16any contenders for
47:17you that could
47:18nudge it off top
47:19spot
47:20oh there's some
47:20really good ones
47:21there and some
47:21real memorable
47:22moments like for
47:23example the
47:24Barcelona game
47:25against PSG
47:25where Sergio
47:26Roberto scores
47:27were like one of
47:28the last kicks of
47:28the game you can
47:29feel the raw emotion
47:30around that but
47:31that's also a team
47:31losing 6-1 but I
47:33think that game
47:33yesterday when it
47:34was 5-2 to PSG
47:36that should have
47:37been game set and
47:37match but with the
47:38quality that Bayern
47:39have instead we've
47:40got two more goals
47:41from them and now
47:41the tie is in the
47:42balance
47:43it's your list
47:44yeah I mean I'm
47:46similar to Nadem to
47:46be honest I think
47:47PSG Barca was the
47:48most kind of
47:48breathtaking game that
47:50I've ever seen that
47:506-1 the Ramon
47:51Sada last night felt
47:52like watching Nadal
47:53Federer it was two
47:54teams just going at
47:55each other constantly
47:56yeah a game for the
47:57ages a game from the
47:58gods I think that's
47:58my favourite
47:59headline well join us
48:00next Wednesday to
48:00see if Arsenal can
48:01make their second
48:02Champions League
48:03final ever 20 years
48:04on from their first
48:05and to see if Bayern
48:06and PSG can score
48:07even more goals in the
48:09second leg or maybe
48:10they'll grind out a
48:11one-all draw from
48:12more of us
48:12goodnight
48:42you
48:43goodnight
48:45you
48:47goodnight
