01:05A little bit of debris on the ice before we drop the puck in this one, which allows us to
01:10show you Scott Wedgwood starting and goal for the Colorado Avalanche.
01:14So why not? First goalie ever to lead the NHL in goals against average and save percentage in the same
01:19season for the Colorado Avalanche.
01:21Yes, for Falstead wasn't the primary starter in the regular season, but the 23-year-old rookie has been fantastic
01:27here. He played all six games in round one. A win against the Dallas Stars. A best of seven between
01:34two of the best teams in the National Hockey League is underway.
01:39Rock Faber set it up the wall. Nathan McKinnon had sent Zuccarello down to the ice, racing back for his
01:46Marty Natchez for Colorado.
01:48And if Natchez didn't pick that one off, I think Leckinen wanted that one in a little one-timer.
01:53No icing here. They say it was deflected. They wave it off as everybody had stopped playing momentarily.
01:58Real Kaprizov across the ice for Hartman.
02:02Always have to be ready for Colorado off the start.
02:05They go pedal down as soon as that puck's put in play.
02:07There's a body check delivered. And it's Landeskog who gets it in deep.
02:12Falstead out of his goal to handle.
02:14That's a good aggressive play by the defenseman, Kulak, and he pinches it once again.
02:18Molding spins off that. Hands off for Daniil Urov. He's the one that's slotted in the spot of Jule Eriksson's
02:24neck tonight.
02:26Kulak one-hands it around. This one's back to head.
02:29Kornichuskin lays it out there in Nelson's direction.
02:32Brock Nelson towards Kulak. D-man up on the rush. Leading down by Middleton.
02:37Kitshed out of the pile by Nelson. Backhand to Kulak.
02:41Looking. Shooting. Change direction. Slow it up by Bolstead.
02:46Yeah, good decision there by Kulak. Kulak to bring that to the middle of the ice and fire it right
02:50off the hop.
02:51And just see how the nerves are of this young rookie goaltender that played so well against the Dallas Stars.
02:56Behind the net, a little scrum right there at Brock Nelson. Smart play on the backhander.
03:01They can see they're starting with purpose at the beginning of this series.
03:04It's quick plays through the neutral zone and already attempts towards Bolstead here.
03:10And how about that? The goaltender's hands are up high.
03:12Natushkin's taking a look at that. Goaltender's hands high. The deflection went low.
03:15So he caught that in a bread basket.
03:19Colorado won the President's Trophy as the league's top team in the regular season.
03:23Minnesota finished third in the Central. He's also third best in the Western Conference.
03:28You see Jared Bednar. All he does is get his team to the postseason.
03:31He's got a Stanley Cup as well.
03:33And now he's on to Round 2 with face to these Minnesota Wilds.
03:36Just a tremendous coach that stays evenly peeled, that prepares his team in the top echelon of the NHL.
03:44What did they win? 2-1, 2-1, 4-2, and 5-1 against the Kings.
03:48Boy, those first couple of games were tough defending games.
03:50I think he's real proud of the way his team played those games.
03:55Colorado playing their first game in exactly one week as they took care of business with the sweep of L
03:59.A.
04:00only trailed for 3 minutes and 21 seconds during that entire series as Wedgwood floods down the long-range shot
04:06from good news.
04:07And you know, Bednar said it, and you just mentioned it, Panger, that defensive style that they had to grind
04:12it out.
04:12He was happy to see that with Round 1 against the L.A. Kings because, you know, this is a
04:16high-octane team.
04:18That offense, they know they can play offense.
04:21It's a natural ability of them, but to see them grind it out and get it done in four games,
04:25he was really happy with that today when we spoke with him.
04:27Yeah, I like that part of the Colorado game.
04:29You know they're going to score goals.
04:30You know they're great on the rush.
04:31In fact, they're first in the playoffs in rush chances.
04:33They almost average 10 per game.
04:38Now icing here.
04:39They were the number one team offensively during the regular season.
04:42They won the Jennings Trophy as well, allowing the fewest goals during the regular season.
04:47That award split between Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgwood.
04:52Brent Burns trying to hold that puck in at the line and lay there out at center ice.
04:56Man-handled by Jack Drury.
04:58He steps in with a pass for Parker Kelly.
05:01Drury with a shoulder-lock win used.
05:03Steered up the wall.
05:04Brent Kulak loads up a wrist.
05:06Sturbs deflected just wide as it crept for the crease.
05:09Ballstead shakes his mask off after taking that one off the goal.
05:13And we get a stoppage in play as a result.
05:15Well, the fans don't like it.
05:16There's a little delay there for the goaltender, Jody.
05:19I'm not sure from your angle, but from my angle, it looked like he thought he had the puck.
05:23And then when he recognized he didn't, then he obviously tweaked that neck and the mask spun off his head.
05:30You can see the action in front there.
05:32It caught him right on the chin.
05:33That's where you saw those two straps on the back pop off.
05:39Oh, yeah.
05:41Unbuckled easily.
05:43And then a little bit of a...
05:45Just a little bit of contact, nothing major.
05:47Good shift by that fourth line with Jack Drury, Parker Kelly, and Logan O'Connor.
05:51They want to set the table for this top line.
05:54They got an offensive zone faceoff.
05:55These little plays, that's what they're focused on here for the Colorado Avalanche.
06:03Nick Foligno will slide over and take the faceoff after Nico Sturm is tossed out.
06:10One by Minnesota, they'll get it out to center ice.
06:13Minnesota knocked off Dallas, who had been the three straight Western Conference Finals in round one.
06:18As McKinnon comes racing into the zone.
06:20Hit the cross and a shot was blocked.
06:22Couldn't get the backhand to go on the other end.
06:26Foligno will hit the red line and he'll dump it in.
06:29Down the car, Marcus Foligno.
06:31Marcus Foligno wins that battle.
06:34Oh, he didn't even look at the puck.
06:35He was just looking at the car the entire time.
06:3833 hits in round one.
06:40Dropped off for Devon Thames.
06:43Thames swung it behind the net.
06:45Nelson dealing with Thiem and Hunt, who has come into the lineup.
06:50And now Jonas Brodine available.
06:53Hunt took the hit, pushed the puck around the wall.
06:56Tulak and Marcus, or Nick Foligno.
06:58Got to keep the Foligno brothers drinking.
07:00They play together.
07:02Only one on the ice right now, that's Nick, who got caught out there, is Kaprizov and Zuccarello.
07:06And who really helped you, too, because 171, 117, and they're both left-hand shots.
07:11Well, one guy's got better hair than the other.
07:14That's not even close.
07:16They're coming from me.
07:18Here's Quinn Hughes, who will backpedal below his own goal line.
07:22And by the way, in the regular season, all the Folignos have combined for his 5,634 total hits.
07:29Marcus had 33 hits in round one, a six-game series.
07:33This one directed down the ice.
07:35Quinn Hughes will pick it up there.
07:37What a first-round Quinn Hughes had, as well.
07:39Eight points in those six games.
07:41He had points in five of the six.
07:42He had two goals and an assist.
07:44In the game's sixth victory to seal it against Dallas.
07:48Barrett ahead by Ross Colton.
07:50Caught the pass through for one.
07:51Just out of reach.
07:52Swimming awesome Kadri.
07:54Kadri took the hit from Hartman.
07:56But puck's still there.
07:58And it's Waugh who has it now.
08:00Waugh's pass.
08:01Taves, look.
08:02There's Brent Burns with a wrist and it goes Waugh.
08:05Takes a Minnesota bounce all the way down the ice.
08:07Yeah, the one area that you can't afford to miss it on there, the far side.
08:10No one there at the left point to be able to keep that puck in.
08:14I like the angle of the goaltender, though.
08:16Didn't give Burns much room there.
08:18Goldie wouldn't let McKinnon out of the zone with all that speed.
08:21And so the battle continues inside the Colorado end.
08:25Is it a partial block by Taves turning to a deflection and a tough stop for Wedgwood.
08:29A turnover and now it's Boldie.
08:31Trying to spin away from Lekkonen.
08:33Boldie to the blue line.
08:34Spurgeon over for Middleton.
08:36A wrister floating in.
08:37Held on to by Scott Wedgwood.
08:42When you talk about bullet train speed, top of the circles and top of the circles, and
08:45that would be Nathan McKinnon.
08:49A regroup in the defensive zone.
08:51Nate just comes back and a little weak punt play right there, and that allows McKinnon
08:55to be off to the races.
08:56But you've got to credit the Minnesota Wild, Jody.
08:58They're good at clogging up the middle.
09:00They're good at taking away the rush.
09:01They know that's going to be a challenge for them.
09:03This is where they're going to miss Brodine, too.
09:05Good skating defenseman.
09:07You can see a little panic there by Spurgeon, but he got in a good position to clog it up
09:10in that last second.
09:12Face-off win for the Wild, and a blocker save from Wedgwood as Hunt put it to the net.
09:18Tarasenko around for Trenyon.
09:20Yakov Trenyon with a wrap try that was directed away by Wedgwood.
09:24Murray's pass intended for Parker.
09:26Kelly cut off, but Kelly stayed with it.
09:28That's the puck in deep.
09:29Logan O'Connor for Kelly.
09:32Slip away from Hunt.
09:33They wrestle for it.
09:34Pagosian got involved.
09:36Logan O'Connor took a pass at it, but it's Parker Kelly.
09:39Gulak's calling for it.
09:40He gets it.
09:40He shoots it.
09:41That one never made it to the net.
09:43Stumped by Trenyon as he stumbled down to his knees.
09:45So it flipped this one through the neutral zone.
09:48And Colorado, with both teams making changes, have an opportunity for Malinsky to get a team.
09:55Five and a half minutes into the opening period of the opening game of round two between Colorado
10:00and Minnesota and Minnesota.
10:07Quinn Hughes will stop the length behind the net.
10:11Mike and it will watch him.
10:13Who are the Olympic gold medalist there?
10:16We've got plenty of Olympians in this game.
10:2015 of them between the two teams.
10:23Brister, save made.
10:25Here to side by Wedgwood.
10:27Around the boards it was kept alive.
10:30And now Blankenburg.
10:32Stopped back behind the net.
10:34Blankenburg allows us to mention that he's in the line because...
10:37Josh Manson is missing.
10:39Here's Natchez.
10:40Coming back his way in.
10:41Held onto it for Tames.
10:43Drags and it's poke-checked away.
10:45Lightning goes Sturm.
10:48Lekkonen.
10:48Got the pass out to the line.
10:50McKinnon.
10:50Gets the feet moving.
10:52Zuccarello trying to hang with him.
10:53McKinnon down low.
10:54Burns.
10:55Around for Natchez.
10:56The 100-point producer from the regular season.
10:59Natchez towards McKinnon.
11:01Who bested him with 127 to the line.
11:05Malinsky.
11:06Good look for Lekkonen.
11:07Blocked.
11:07Brock Faber with the two-pad stack to take it away.
11:11What a read by Faber.
11:12And timing him.
11:13That play to get over there to the right so quickly.
11:16Good setup by Colorado too.
11:20Zuccarello lifted in.
11:21Greg Kulak.
11:22Angled off by Hartman.
11:23Came around the wall for Natchezkin.
11:26Mal Natchezkin.
11:27Carries in over the line.
11:28His pass intercepted by Hartman.
11:30And here comes Minnesota in a hurry.
11:32Kaprizov crossing the line.
11:34Kirill Kaprizov.
11:35Rester just missed wide.
11:37Malinsky able to chop it ahead for Nelson.
11:40Three on two here for Colorado.
11:42And it's got to drop Nelson to the congested middle of the ice.
11:45He shot.
11:46Redirected away.
11:47Head to the blue line.
11:48Kulak.
11:49Wide.
11:49Big rebound on the back.
11:50Oh!
11:51And cut across the open mouth.
11:53Here's Kulak to the net.
11:54That one trickling through and pushed away.
11:56And the leg pads a ball stick.
12:26Colorado Pressley.
12:27For Volstead.
12:30Both teams have had their looks.
12:33No team has broken through.
12:35Early stages.
12:36Opening period.
12:38What a matchup we've got for you here tonight.
12:40The Wild and Avalanche.
12:47NHL on TNT is brought to you by Geico.
12:50Feels good to have a winning team.
12:52It feels good to Geico.
12:54And by Vanda Pharmaceuticals.
12:56Innovate in the service of people's pursuit of happiness.
13:01Hale McCarr is missing from the Colorado Avalanche bench.
13:05He has only played a minute and 11 seconds so far in this game.
13:08We talked about the Flinos getting in the forecheck.
13:10And this seems to be the hit right there.
13:12His right leg goes up hard.
13:14Waits on his left side after he takes that hit right there.
13:17And has not returned.
13:19I remember he was injured late March.
13:21They did have the luxury of resting players.
13:24So they said it wasn't that serious.
13:25But here in game one, he's out right away.
13:27An awesome catchery called for a penalty here.
13:33As they get him for a hold by the net.
13:35Caller out on the 91 is a two-minute minor for holding.
13:40Kyle Raymond and Garrett Rank are the officials here.
13:42And you can see that...
13:43Who's holding who?
13:45Yeah.
13:46Yep.
13:46And then the legs fly out there from underneath Middleton.
13:50Yeah, better in play by Middleton there.
13:52A little gamesmanship here.
13:53Lock it up.
13:54And that's why Kadri's not happy at all.
13:56So it sets up a Minnesota Wild power play.
14:00Not even halfway through the first.
14:03Yeah, their power play on the road.
14:04The Minnesota Wild in the playoffs.
14:05They're three for 11.
14:07Six best in the playoffs.
14:09As Middleton takes a break there.
14:10He did his job behind the net.
14:12Got his boys a power play with that play behind the net.
14:17Vanda Pharmaceuticals power play for Minnesota.
14:20Kaprizov kept it in initially and then it pops out of his own.
14:23Wild went four for 25 in the first round against Dallas.
14:26They went three for 15 in their first three games.
14:28Just one for 10 in the last three games of that series.
14:31As Brent Burns took that right off the stick of Boldy.
14:34Kaprizov couldn't handle it.
14:35It's cleared down.
14:39Colorado's penalty kill meanwhile gave up three power play goals on 16 chances that the LA Kings had.
14:45That was the number one penalty kill during the regular season.
14:48Colorado had better than 84%.
15:17They set it up for Boldy.
15:19He left the puck behind.
15:20There goes O'Connor the other way.
15:22Short-handed.
15:23Good.
15:24Hughes lays it back.
15:25O'Connor says for an outside shot.
15:27That missed one.
15:31Almost a power play goal for Kaprizov and then almost a shorthanded breakaway for Logan O'Connor.
15:37Good speed by Hughes to get back there and break it up.
15:40Hughes caught in a tough spot there just inside the line.
15:43He's kicked along from Kuchuskin to Nelson.
15:45Instead of dumping it in, he eats some more time.
15:48The pass back for Kulak.
15:49Fellas, that's a great sound too on the power play.
15:51They did everything they wanted to do.
15:52Working it to the point.
15:53Working it to the one side.
15:54Flighting the one side.
15:55And then trying to go backdoor in the opposite direction.
15:58Just missed by the Wild.
15:59Full speed ahead for Marcus Johansson.
16:02Hartman's pass to him though.
16:03Intercepted and cleared by Brock Nelson.
16:0510 seconds left on the Kadri minor.
16:10Barrett Spurgeon set up Johansson with the drum.
16:15Kadri is out of the box.
16:17And Brent Byrne stripped that puck for Johansson as he entered the zone.
16:20He didn't know where it went.
16:22This one lifted along for Kadri out of the box.
16:24Now is him Kadri.
16:26Loads up a shot.
16:27Kicked out by Volstead.
16:28What a smart play by Kadri.
16:30Dragged that puck a little bit.
16:32Waited for the defenseman to spread the legs and then tried to fire it short side.
16:35Good read by the goaltender with his left pad.
16:40Minnesota had that great opportunity with Dupree Sawb.
16:42But no official shots on goal during that man advantage as McKinnon came in all by himself.
16:47And ripped it on goal.
16:49The save made by Volstead.
16:52Still scoreless halfway through a period one in Denver.
16:58Boy, Brock, you sure had a good look on that power play and just missed right there.
17:02That's some of the things you guys are working on, that goal line to the jam play?
17:06Yeah, trying to work it low.
17:09You know, I think early in the power plays we got to shoot the puck.
17:13You know, and then once we get set up, that's when plays happen.
17:16Your two-pack slide in the defensive zone was excellent.
17:18Road hockey goalie when you were a kid?
17:21No, but yeah, no, that was a little bit of luck.
17:24I'm glad it hit me.
17:25Thanks for doing this, Brock.
17:25No problem.
17:29Brock Faber, an Olympic gold medalist this season, trying to add a Stanley Cup to it.
17:33There's a block from Sturm.
17:35That broke his stick.
17:36Puck taken by Marcus Galeno.
17:38He'll try and dump that win in.
17:39Malinsky just knocked it out of the air.
17:41Great hand-eye coordination there by Malinsky.
17:43That tells the forwards of the Minnesota Wild, you can't kind of soft-chip that in there.
17:48The hands are too good.
17:49You've got to put that in deep and get it to the right spot to get in the forecheck.
17:52Yeah, brother Nick was trying to get on the forecheck there.
17:54He got stopped.
17:56And then how about Blankenberg, defenseman.
17:58He's in the lineup tonight, his second playoff game.
18:01He's on the backside of this playoff.
18:03Comes off the end boards.
18:04Right-handed shot.
18:05Just tries to get a bounce and pisses off that post.
18:08What an opportunity for him.
18:10Another good read.
18:12He's not the biggest guy in the world, but boy, he's a competitive player.
18:15He's got a good edge to his game.
18:17Especially without Josh Manchin.
18:19Two different defensemen, obviously.
18:20He doesn't know he's not Big Bang.
18:23Here's Natchez across from Malinsky.
18:25He scores!
18:29Sam Malinsky filling in for the injured.
18:33Kale Makara on this shift.
18:34Gets the first goal in game one.
18:42And what a shot it is.
18:46The talent on that right side.
18:48Entry into the zone from our AT&T connected cam.
18:51And Natchez just waits and waits and waits.
18:53And he finds his late man.
18:55And this was an absolute bullet.
18:57High.
18:58Over the glove and under the bar.
19:00On the short side.
19:02There was not much room right there.
19:03What a shot that is by Malinsky.
19:05And look who's in front.
19:06McKinnon, Lekkonen.
19:08They're drawing back the defenders.
19:09That's why Natchez had so much time in the middle of the ice.
19:12Then he finds Malinsky.
19:14And he's got a great lane there.
19:17Sam Malinsky from Lakeville, Minnesota.
19:19About 30 miles south of St. Paul.
19:21Playing against the Minnesota Wild.
19:23Has the first goal of the series.
19:26First career playoff goal for Malinsky as well.
19:30Marty Natchez will get the primary assist.
19:32And then the Colorado Avalanche with the first goal of the hockey game.
19:35And comes at even strength.
19:37Here's another chance.
19:38Kicked out.
19:38Rebound after the catch retry.
19:41It's vacuumed up by Falstead as he fell into the ice.
19:46Good pressure after scoring a goal.
19:47And that keeps the fans on their feet right here.
19:51And it's really simple hockey, isn't it, Panger?
19:53I mean, you think of these Colorado Avalanches.
19:55You think high flying through the neutral zone.
19:57High skill plays like we just saw.
19:58But when they're in zone, it's low to high, D2D to the net with traffic.
20:03I think Jared Bednar, his only concern right now is obviously his all-world all-star defenseman.
20:09And Cale McCarr only playing a minute and 11 seconds.
20:12We'll find a word on that.
20:14But in the meantime, the pressure after scoring a goal is good.
20:17Next shift, five on five.
20:19Good.
20:19Good save by Falstead.
20:22Kavon Taves gets the secondary assist on that Molenski goal.
20:25He now has points in four straight games.
20:28Nothing in game one of that series against L.A.
20:31Finish strong.
20:33A goal in game four.
20:35In the sweep.
20:37There's a steal.
20:38And a chance.
20:38They score!
20:42Jack Troy.
20:44Two goals in less than a minute for Colorado.
20:54Well, we talk about the great forecheck of the Minnesota Wild.
20:57Well, the Colorado Avalanches did just that.
21:00And it looked like Middleton had the turnover.
21:02There, Jody.
21:03And with that turnover, let's take a look here.
21:06He's a left-hand shot.
21:07He's got, oh, he fanned on it.
21:08He whiffed on the flipper.
21:09That's what happened.
21:10Tough luck there for Middleton.
21:12And the Avs take advantage of that.
21:13And this fourth line for Colorado wanted to have more of an impact in this second round.
21:18Good pressure.
21:19Good opportunity.
21:20They take advantage of it.
21:24Jack Troy's first goal of these playoffs.
21:27This point, the last four games.
21:29Officially 52 seconds between the goals.
21:32Third of the career in the playoffs for Jack Troy.
21:36Colorado, they just keep on coming.
21:38Kulak across.
21:39Beletsky a wrister.
21:40That one gloved and held by Bostet.
21:42And then things get pushed out in front.
21:45From Faber.
21:45About in the face of Rambastok.
21:48It landed a few gloved punches on the Aids captain.
21:50There was an original call before this skirmish started.
21:58So we'll see if the original call holds up.
22:00But it's the only one where there's going to be some extra players heading to the box.
22:09Two goals in 52 seconds.
22:11And then just 20 seconds after the goal, there will be penalties here.
22:14It looked like Kyle Raymond looked at Faber and said,
22:17You're going to the box, if I'm not mistaken.
22:20Yeah, I read that too.
22:22There's the hook.
22:22There's the broken crosscheck.
22:25And Landis Scott's not going anywhere.
22:27He's a great leader.
22:28He's got characters standing in there.
22:31I think the original, though, might be...
22:36For roughing.
22:37Yeah.
22:38That's exactly right.
22:38They gave a two-minute minor for crosschecking.
22:41And then they both got two for roughing.
22:42Faber first, and then they both get two for roughing.
22:44So it is a power play here for Colorado.
22:51And this is what Minnesota wants to do.
22:53They want to play this physical game.
22:55I know they want to sit the box.
22:56There's a fine line, of course.
22:58But they've got a team right now with size, compete.
23:01They want to get back in this game.
23:03Kind of slow things down and drag Colorado into the mud a little bit.
23:08So Colorado to the power play without Cale McCarr.
23:11Devon Taves is out there in this spot for a unit full of incredible players,
23:17but somehow have not been able to figure out their power play this season.
23:20Well, you just saw Hackstall.
23:21He's in charge of the power play.
23:22And he went to work on what Dallas had success with in that first round against Minnesota.
23:30Avalanche finished 27th during the regular season in power play percentage.
23:34Just over 17%.
23:36They went 1-4-11 in round one against L.A.
23:41See our Geico on the ice and the five Avalanche players.
23:45Ryan at a third first career goal.
23:47Here's McKinnon getting loose to the slot for Lekkonen.
23:49Kropp for Natchez.
23:50Moved across and Volstead was there for the try from Nazem Khadri.
23:54Good speed.
23:55And I think if Nick Foligno had that over again in the offensive zone, Jody, he'd get that deeper.
24:00He kind of lightly played a backhander.
24:02Wasn't deep enough.
24:03And the Avalanche are too quick to go the other way.
24:06That's a good save by Volstead.
24:07Fighting that one off.
24:08It was on end just a little bit right there by Khadri.
24:11Yeah, you're feeding the monster in transition, right?
24:13You want him to go 200 free feet all series long, especially here in game one.
24:21Minnesota will get the easy clear after the face-off win.
24:25Colorado's power play was their undoing in last year's playoff series.
24:29A seven-game loss to Dallas.
24:31They went three for 22.
24:32Cost Ray Bennett his job.
24:36Trying to get something going here.
24:38This is going on net by McKinnon.
24:39Got his own rebound.
24:40Score!
24:43McKinnon makes the play and Lekkonen gets the goal.
24:46It's three goals in the first period for the Avalanche.
24:54The presence of mind to go against the grain.
24:58All the speed going forward.
25:00Volstead makes the save.
25:02It looks like McKinnon might fire it on the forehand.
25:06Instead, he goes back against the grain where no one finds Lekkonen.
25:12Well, Marty Nates is there with that speed.
25:14Back it all up.
25:15And then it's a slingshot to one of the fastest players in the world.
25:19But this second effort banger.
25:20Oh!
25:22Unreal that he found Lekkonen there.
25:25And no one on Minnesota was watching the late man.
25:28And it goes between Spurgeon's legs and in the empty net.
25:32I was looking over to see if there's any timeout being called.
25:35But the under six would benefit the head coach, John Hines, here to calm things down.
25:41Here comes Brock Nelson trying to break on in.
25:44After three goals in two minutes and one second for the Colorado Avalanche.
25:50Arturi Lekkonen.
25:51We have enough of the sample size.
25:53He is a playoff performer.
25:54And he has his third goal of this postseason already.
25:57That's all without Kael McCarr on the ice.
26:00Power play goal.
26:01And here's Devontae.
26:02They'll leave it for Nichuskin.
26:04Across the ice.
26:05And it missed.
26:06Brock Nelson set up all alone inside the circle.
26:10Zuccarello trying to bank pass.
26:12Kaprizov down there to at least beat out the icing.
26:15Lipsky takes a hard shove into the wall by Kaprizov.
26:20You're always curious about that rest versus rust debate.
26:23We saw last night there was no problem with the rest for Carolina.
26:27There seems to be no problem with the rest for Colorado.
26:31Their last game was last Sunday as Quinn Hughes to the puck from Nichuskin.
26:35Meanwhile, a good look is broken up as Tarasenko tried to make his way to the net.
26:40Spurgeon, Tarasenko holds it in.
26:43Pass across.
26:44Shot on goal.
26:44Save made by Wedgwood.
26:47And then Logan O'Connor got popped by Trenyon.
26:51He was a little slow to get up.
26:54Spurgeon and Quinn Hughes will settle things back down while they make changes.
27:01Coming up on five minutes to go here in the first period that has been controlled by Colorado.
27:08Attempts are 25-9 here in the first period in Avalanche favor.
27:16Brown tries to get on the 23-year-old rookie goaltender Jesper Volstead.
27:19Here's a chance.
27:20They score!
27:22Puck popped onto the stick of Marcus Johansson.
27:26And Minnesota bites into that three-goal lead.
27:32Big, big goal here by Johansson.
27:34Spinning around the left-hand shot.
27:35Clanks it right off the bar.
27:37And down low pressure.
27:38A little two-on-two right here.
27:40And you can see the third man highs, Johansson.
27:42Not real high right there.
27:43But he ends up coming back, top of the circle, spinning, shooting, and into the net.
27:47I don't think Wedgwood saw this at all.
27:49And great job by Boldy in the corner.
27:51Good positioning on Blankenberg.
27:53And then hand-eye coordination to knock that puck to the middle of the ice.
27:56And that's where Johansson cleaned it up.
27:58Yeah, because they were swarming.
27:59You had three forwards down low, and I'm watching going, boy, that puck bumps loose.
28:04There go the avalanche going the other way again.
28:06But great job by Johansson to read that play and come out himself and get the shot.
28:1235-year-old Marcus Johansson in his 13th trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
28:17Scores the goal to give a little bit of life here to Minnesota.
28:21But Colorado racing back into the offensive end.
28:23Natchez and Lekanen couldn't get their half on the same page.
28:29And this one fired across for Aturi Lekanen.
28:32He'll stop and wait.
28:34Four goals in three minutes and 50 seconds both ways between these two.
28:41As Lekanen slips away from the hit of Bogosian.
28:43Lekanen centers.
28:45Nelson's shot right on and swallowed up by Jesper Volstead.
28:50Oh, it didn't take long to get this series started.
28:53Sam Molenski, Jack Turi, Aturi Lekanen, and Marcus Johansson.
28:58Four goals, less than four minutes.
29:00How about our start to round two?
29:02A lot of tape at the end of that blade right there.
29:04But he was able to trap it, curl it, and go.
29:06But give a lot of credit to Boldy here on this two-on-two battle.
29:09You mentioned it.
29:12Jody, the hand-eye coordination right there to midair by Boldy.
29:16And he's so good at just keeping that puck in the air.
29:19The area everyone wants to get to is right around the blue paint, even in front of it.
29:23And look what Johansson does there as he finds a pocket between four of the Avalanche
29:27to get the first goal for the Wild in this series.
29:30Colorado briefly had possession there between that Boldy play and the goal,
29:35so it's officially an unassisted goal for Minnesota.
29:38But it is a goal for the Wild, who desperately needed it
29:43after surrendering three goals to start this game.
29:46Quinn Hughes trying to create, and he found Hartman.
29:48He scores!
29:50What a pass from Quinn Hughes, banged home by Ryan Hartman.
29:56And the goals just keep on coming.
30:00Very unlike Game 7 that we just saw there between Tampa,
30:04obviously the Montreal Canadiens, but listen, give Ballstead credit.
30:07I mean, there was a good chance against the goaltender.
30:10Could have been a 4-1 lead.
30:11He makes the save, settled things down,
30:13and now the Minnesota Wild got a couple of goals here.
30:17Tricky play there, obviously, by Quinn Hughes.
30:18And look at what Hartman does right away.
30:21The spin around by Hughes.
30:22He plays it on the back end, finds his man.
30:24Amazing.
30:25He's got eyes in the back of his head to find him on the doorstep.
30:28And Hartman points right at it here, Jody, after this goal was scored.
30:31Giving him all the credit in the world, and why wouldn't he?
30:33Well, it's not a zone defense like Dallas played.
30:36So, Hughes there, he's got Nelson on him.
30:38He drags him low.
30:39He's shake and bake.
30:40That's why he found that passing lane to the middle.
30:42That's something to watch for Colorado,
30:44because Hughes, he's going to be all over the zone
30:46trying to create that confusion as a man-on-man down low.
30:50Ryan Hartman had a goal in Game 1 against Dallas.
30:53He has a goal here in Game 1 against Colorado,
30:56as this could be in icing.
30:58And it will just go wide of the net.
31:03The NHL app is your place to get every highlight
31:06from every game of every series.
31:09Behind-the-scenes playoff content you won't get anywhere else.
31:12The most NHL edge advanced stats.
31:15The Stanley Cup playoffs are better on the NHL app.
31:20Quinn Hughes picks up his ninth point of the playoffs
31:23on the goal for Hartman.
31:24While we came into this game,
31:26building the Hughes' first McCarr matchup.
31:28We've only seen two shifts from Cal McCarr.
31:30He's in the locker room.
31:32It has been for quite some time for Colorado.
31:34And you wonder, on that goal with Devon Taves
31:36and Brent Burns playing together,
31:37if maybe that came into play
31:39with a wide-open Ryan Hartman in front of the net.
31:41That's a really good point.
31:43You know, McCarr is, of course,
31:44he did have an injury at the end of the year.
31:46It was, you know, they did have the time to rest players.
31:49But, yeah, McCarr is that important.
31:52And, of course, with Taves.
31:55So things have moved up, moved around with 5-D here
31:58for the Avalanche.
32:00What a response by John Hines, Minnesota Wild,
32:03after falling down 3-0 here in hostile territory.
32:05The crowd all over them.
32:08And they're able to bounce back,
32:10get the next two goals in just over a minute.
32:13Yep.
32:14The LA Kings were able to get on their forecheck,
32:15and they took a piece of skin off of Manson,
32:18and he's not playing.
32:18And now you see it.
32:20It's hard to get a piece of McCarr,
32:22but it's exactly what Marcus Foligno did.
32:26Bresov and Hartman.
32:27It's Malinsky who's able to angle them off.
32:29They're just so elusive.
32:30Same with Quinn Hughes.
32:32Everyone's like, well, drill him.
32:33Hit him.
32:33Hit him.
32:34Well, it's hard to hit him.
32:36McKinnon.
32:37Natchez.
32:38One more pass,
32:39and it was Hartman to break it up
32:40as Malinsky slid in for the blue line.
32:43Natchez.
32:44Wrist shot.
32:45Falstead has it secured.
32:47Let's go back to the Hartman goal here.
32:49Panger has two goals for the wild,
32:53and Quinn Hughes is a factor
32:55every time he's on the ice.
32:57But here, keep it on Nelson.
32:58Nelson's got him on the right side.
33:00Now this puck's gonna work,
33:01and as Hughes gets it,
33:03he knows he's got the full attention.
33:04There's confusion in the middle of the ice
33:05as Burns gets locked up there
33:07with Lankanen,
33:08and that allows Hartman
33:09to come right down the middle of the ice
33:11and accept that pass.
33:13That's the brilliance of Quinn Hughes right there.
33:15He wants a guy to play him one-on-one.
33:18You know,
33:19of that attention,
33:19he's gonna create confusion
33:21and take him on,
33:22and then open space.
33:23I mean,
33:24it's against the zone.
33:25All that happens,
33:26you end up staying on the outside.
33:27On the outside,
33:27the middle gets collapsed.
33:29The zone defense and protection takes place,
33:31and hard to find the seams,
33:33but you get a chance one-on-one.
33:34I mean,
33:35you can spin on a dime
33:37and give you a five-cents change
33:38like very few in this game,
33:40but you know it, too.
33:42Hines was saying that
33:43in the last series
33:44when he was asked,
33:45do you just let Hughes go?
33:46Does he just go
33:47throughout the whole zone?
33:48And Hines took a step back
33:50and smiled.
33:50He said,
33:50no,
33:51they're playing zones.
33:52You're a point banger.
33:52There's no sense
33:53just going around the outside.
33:55How about the crowd here
33:57applauding
33:57because some of them
33:58just noticed Kale McCarr
33:59come back to the bench.
34:01They just showed him
34:01on the video board here as well.
34:04But Kale McCarr has returned.
34:06He's only taken two shifts
34:07in this game.
34:08It's something to celebrate.
34:09Yeah.
34:10I wonder how many fans
34:11were watching the tunnel
34:13just hoping that number eight
34:14was going to emerge.
34:16Blankford bangs this one along.
34:18Worked its way to Logan O'Connor.
34:20O'Connor,
34:21wrist or blocker save
34:22made by Volstead.
34:24O'Connor took the crunch.
34:25Parker Kelly knocked down
34:27by Euron.
34:28Stretch pass on for Trinion.
34:31Watched by Devontae.
34:33Back off Trinion.
34:34Should have get the puck
34:35off the stick with Taze
34:36all over him.
34:37Help came from Euron.
34:38Pass to the slot
34:39and rolls out.
34:40Here's Hunt with a chance
34:41blocked by Landeskogh.
34:42It goes and sets him up again.
34:44Hunt, Trinion,
34:45wrist or with traffic
34:46and it's somehow pushed away
34:47by a sliding Wedgwood.
34:49On the exchange,
34:51Johansson takes it wide.
34:53Looking to wrap it.
34:54He'll take it the long way around.
34:55Hit Hunt, get it back.
34:57Johansson, wrist shot.
34:58Now it's blocked by Landeskogh again
35:00and out of the zone.
35:02Rick Boulders is talking
35:03about that between
35:04periods of the last game
35:06is you've got to get that puck
35:08through that first
35:09layer right there.
35:11Landeskogh gets his shin pads
35:13in the way
35:13but the Minnesota
35:14got to get through.
35:14Natchez had it
35:16and it was stripped away
35:17by Boldy.
35:18Lekkonen going to the middle
35:19of the ice
35:20hoping for either Nelson
35:21or Natchez.
35:23It's Boghossian now.
35:25He'll hit the red line
35:26and softly play it in.
35:30Boghossian who lost
35:31a Stanley Cup championship
35:32to Colorado
35:33as a member
35:34of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
35:39is it 20-22
35:40as this pass connects
35:41for Arturi Lekkonen.
35:43Lekkonen for Kulak.
35:45A wrist shot off
35:45the skeet of Brock Faber.
35:46I'll say
35:47McCarr's on the bench
35:48but he has not
35:48come on the ice just yet.
35:52Faber
35:54ripped around
35:55waiting for
35:55Marcus Foligno.
35:57Now off for Quinn Hughes.
36:00Hughes moves to the middle.
36:01Wrist shot
36:01tipped on its way through.
36:03Went off to the corner.
36:04Nathan McKinnon
36:05and Marcus Foligno
36:06goes shoulder to shoulder.
36:08Foligno emerges
36:09with the puck.
36:10Sent it for Sturm.
36:11Now off for Faber.
36:13It's Hughes
36:13with the spin move.
36:15Trying to shake
36:15Arturi Lekkonen.
36:17Hughes on the forehand.
36:18He'll drop it off.
36:19Wide open.
36:20Marcus Foligno.
36:21Lots of traffic.
36:22No problem
36:22for Wedgwood
36:23as he was able
36:24to keep his eyes
36:25blocked on that puck.
36:27Well, the second round
36:29is set as we look
36:30at the upcoming
36:30playoff
36:31action.
36:32Monday on ESPN.
36:33Philadelphia and Carolina
36:34at 7.
36:35Followed by Anaheim
36:36and Vegas
36:37at 9.30.
36:38Tuesday, ESPN
36:39will have game 2
36:40of this series
36:41between Minnesota
36:41and Colorado.
36:43And then Anaheim
36:44and Vegas
36:44on Wednesday
36:45here on TNT.
36:47Game 1
36:47between Montreal
36:49and Buffalo
36:50after the Habs
36:51with the game 7 victory
36:52earlier tonight.
36:53You know, Jody,
36:54he was not putting much weight.
36:55He was testing the right leg.
36:56That's what happened
36:57when he kind of did the
36:58one leg went up
36:59really high
36:59and had to put his weight
37:00down when he came back down.
37:01That appears to be
37:03what he's ailing from here.
37:05And not a good look
37:06when he tests his leg.
37:07Now he's back on the bench.
37:11Kaprizov.
37:11Just 8 seconds
37:12to go on the period
37:13as that one hit off
37:13of Brock Nelson.
37:15Hartman looking,
37:16tried to shoot it.
37:17Wedgwood couldn't find it.
37:18Hit the outside of the net
37:19and as Kadri kicks it
37:20to the wall.
37:21An action-packed first period
37:23comes to a close
37:24but question marks
37:25surrounding Kale McCar
37:26who will go test out
37:27the wheels here.
37:29Only played two shifts
37:30in that first period
37:32which makes a combined
37:33five goals.
37:35Vanda Pharmaceutical
37:36intermission report
37:37is coming up.
37:38Liam McHugh,
37:39Anson Carter,
37:40Paul Bissonnette,
37:40and Rick Bonas
37:41with plenty to talk about
37:42after one period
37:43in Denver.
37:46Touching the Stanley Cup
37:48playoffs on TNT
37:49presented by Geico.
37:51Getting sent for the start
37:52of the second period.
37:53Mr. Miyagi worked his magic
37:55between periods
37:56one and two
37:57and Kale McCar
37:58came flying down the tunnel
38:00onto the ice
38:01and he will start
38:02the second period
38:03for the Avalanche.
38:04And much needed too
38:05for Colorado.
38:06Certainly there's a dip there.
38:07You look down the bench,
38:08no number eight
38:09and then 43
38:10on the other side.
38:11Quinn Hughes takes it over
38:12with a little razzle-dazzle
38:13and a backhand
38:14beautiful pass
38:14over there to Hartman.
38:16He missed the final
38:1717 minutes
38:18of the first period.
38:19He's only taken two shifts
38:21but he is ready
38:22for his third
38:24in game number one.
38:25On pace for 15 goals, guys.
38:28Buckle up
38:28for period number two.
38:30It was a 3-0 lead
38:32for Colorado
38:33for not even two minutes
38:35before Minnesota
38:36got back into it
38:37and now a penalty
38:38taken by Lekanen
38:39on the opening shift
38:40and the opening seconds
38:41of the second period
38:43will set Minnesota up
38:44on a power play
38:45unless they score first.
38:47Capri Sons' pass
38:48redirected.
38:49Try to pick it up
38:49on the other side
38:50could not
38:51and a hooking minor
38:52against Arturi Lekanen
38:53and the Minnesota Wild
38:55power play
38:56coming up.
39:00Colorado Pony number 62
39:01two-minute minor
39:02for hooking.
39:03Hartman has a
39:04has a knack.
39:06has a way
39:07getting in the middle
39:08of the mud right here
39:09and you can see
39:09he's actually losing
39:11his step
39:11and his balance
39:12on the edges
39:13cutting back
39:14with his sticks
39:15in the midsection
39:15and the blade
39:16was turned around.
39:18Referee makes the call.
39:23That's a good start
39:23for the Wild
39:24as they come out.
39:25You know,
39:25it's great news
39:26to get Makar back
39:27for the avalanche
39:28but here they have
39:28an opportunity
39:29on this power play
39:30to tie it up.
39:31And Matt Boldy
39:33wins the faceoff
39:34and serves it
39:35around the ice
39:35for real Caprizov
39:36set a franchise record
39:38with 19 power play goals
39:39mishandled that puck
39:40though.
39:41Pressure from Chuskin
39:42he'll just punch it over
39:43for Quinn Hughes.
39:4519 power play goals
39:46in the regular season
39:47for Caprizov
39:4811
39:48for Matt Boldy.
39:51Quinn Hughes
39:52who's the facilitator
39:53on the man advantage
39:55plays it out
39:56for Matt Zuccarello.
39:57His pass interrupted
39:58by Brock Nelson
39:59he'll just slap this one
40:00out of the zone.
40:03Nelson peels off
40:04for a change
40:04while he was near the bench
40:05and Zuccarello
40:06enters
40:08plays down
40:09for Brock Faber.
40:11Faber
40:11to the wall
40:12for Zuccarello.
40:13Now Boldy.
40:15Zuccarello again
40:16taking a look
40:17they give him some space
40:18he'll hang out
40:19on the half wall.
40:20Boldy will come
40:21to join him.
40:22Boldy from the goal line
40:23he'll stop
40:24and Quinn Hughes
40:25gets it right back
40:26halfway through
40:27the power play
40:27for Minnesota.
40:28Down low
40:29wide open
40:30Caprizov
40:30Wedgwood
40:31took a peek
40:32behind him
40:32but he made the save.
40:35Very good position
40:36there by Wedgwood
40:37on that shot.
40:38Caprizov might have
40:39had a chance
40:40to step out
40:41a little bit more
40:41change that angle
40:43but you gotta give
40:43credit to Wedgwood
40:45for his patience
40:45and his control
40:46of his crease
40:47right here.
40:47He doesn't get
40:47swimming at all.
40:49And good save
40:49with the right elbow
40:50and the side of the body.
40:53That's on our
40:54AT&T connected cam.
40:55You can see
40:56four lefties
40:57of one right
40:57he's ready his favor
40:58he was on the back side
41:00and that was a good
41:01opportunity for
41:01Grease offense
41:04Wedgwood look
41:04very unsure
41:05on that shot.
41:06Well you just gotta
41:08make sure
41:08that it doesn't
41:09sneak through you
41:10and that's what
41:11causes uncertainty.
41:13A hot potato
41:14between your arms
41:15is a good squeeze.
41:16Yes it is.
41:19Boldy able to keep
41:20that one in
41:21played across
41:22for Quinn Hughes
41:23Hughes
41:23steps down the wall
41:24and peels back
41:25Hughes
41:26from the dot
41:27saucers it
41:29below the goal line
41:29for Zuccarello
41:33Brister
41:33wide of the net
41:34comes to Hughes
41:3530 seconds left

41:43of the ice
41:43Caprizov
41:44first shot blocked
41:45second shot
41:45directed over the net
41:48now Faber again

42:00and Brock Delson
42:02will clear
42:03and Colorado
42:04able to navigate
42:05through the Lekinin
42:06penalty.
42:07Yeah that was the
42:07stick of Burns
42:08in that corner
42:09he was able to
42:10push it out of
42:10that scrum
42:11and his teammate
42:12easily able to
42:13get out of his own
42:15twisted right on
42:16through
42:17picked up by
42:17Hartman
42:18he's got Johansen
42:19tried to force
42:20that one through
42:21but it was cut off
42:21by Devon Taves
42:23intended for
42:24Natchez
42:24Naves finds it
42:25again
42:27Ballstead stops
42:29plays for Middleton
42:31turned over
42:33Brister
42:34knocked down
42:35in front
42:35loose puck
42:36in the crease
42:36Ballstead
42:37able to locate it
42:38just in time
42:39and get the glove
42:40down on top of it
42:41turnover results
42:43in this scoring
42:44opportunity
42:46and the veteran
42:47Middleton
42:48had some issues
42:49flipping one out
42:49in that first period
42:50plays the backhander
42:51looking for Hartman
42:52the outlet
42:53in the D zone
42:54but instead
42:55the Colorado
42:56Ambulance
42:56take advantage
42:57and give Ballstead
42:58a lot of credit
42:58for being firm
42:59on that goal line
43:00not getting pushed
43:01back
43:13faceoff win for
43:14Michael McCarron
43:17Ross shoved down
43:18by Middleton
43:19and this punt
43:20rolls to center ice
43:22and it's dumped in
43:23by Ross Colton
43:26saw another shift
43:27we're seeing one right now
43:28with Molenski
43:28and Tades
43:29you wonder
43:29if it's because
43:30of the penalty
43:31killing
43:31and the units
43:32getting separated
43:32or if
43:33Cal McCarron's
43:34not taking
43:34his regular shift
43:35with this stop
43:35pocket stop
43:36by Ballstead
43:39Trinion
43:40unable to get it
43:41in initially
43:42found its way
43:42to Vladimir Tarasenko
43:44stripped from behind
43:44by Kadri
43:45awesome Kadri
43:46first into the
43:47offensive zone
43:48cuts it back
43:49into the slot
43:50rolling off
43:51the stick
43:51of Ross Colton
43:52he got up
43:52and it's
43:53Michael McCarron
43:54yeah
43:55McCarron was right
43:56to my left
43:56here fellas
43:57and he
43:57snapped the stick
43:59on the bench
43:59it was weak
44:00got a new one
44:00hopped onto the ice
44:01here
44:03Nachuskin right on
44:04a save made
44:04by the shoulder
44:05of Ballstead
44:07picked up again
44:07by Nachuskin
44:09Blankenberg
44:09Wrister
44:10blocked by Hunt
44:11Sturm
44:11knocked off it
44:12by Nelson
44:13McCarron had it
44:14swept away
44:14by Sturm
44:15from along the ice
44:17and Marcus Foligno
44:18will get it in
44:21Foligno
44:21oh he was a wrecking
44:23ball in game 6
44:24against Dallas
44:25he drives to the net
44:26on the backhand
44:26wraparound
44:27Wedgwood able
44:28to seal it off
44:29here comes
44:30Nachuskin
44:31driving as
44:32Blankenberg
44:32scores
44:43first tryer
44:44playoff goal
44:45for Nick Blankenberg
44:46and Colorado
44:47restores their
44:48two goal lead
44:49and that's how
44:50quick this transition
44:51works
44:53Blankenberg
44:53comes up
44:54right alongside
44:55the bench area
44:56with some speed
44:57just keeps going
44:59to the net
44:59and it's a 200
45:00foot play
45:01number one
45:02the same
45:02by the goaltender
45:03on the jam
45:03wraparound
45:04and then the speed
45:05by Nachuskin
45:06fireside
45:07what a beautiful
45:08pass that was
45:09by Nachuskin
45:09Blankenberg takes
45:11it on the backhand
45:11of the forehand
45:12high over the glove
45:13after this perfect
45:14flat pass
45:17well it's his second
45:18NHL Stanley Cup
45:20playoff game here
45:21and he's a great skater
45:23and the execution
45:24to pick that up
45:24on his backhand
45:25and find that net
45:28and how about
45:29Makar there
45:29he emerged
45:30with that puck
45:30took a couple
45:31strides
45:31and he's the one
45:32who set that
45:33play off the ice
45:34I thought that
45:35shot of his
45:35went higher
45:36over the glove
45:37it didn't
45:37it was midway
45:39and it's one
45:40that Ballstad
45:40will look at
45:41get that glove
45:42in a better position
45:4527 year old
45:46Nick Blankenberg
45:47who made his
45:47playoff debut
45:48in game 4
45:49against the Kings
45:50with an injury
45:50to Josh Manson
45:53came over
45:54from Nashville
45:54just before the
45:55deadline
45:55and makes
45:57a certain impact
45:58here
45:58in game 1
46:00Nathan McKinnon
46:01chases after this
46:02gets to it
46:03tried to center
46:04took a funny hop
46:05awful shin pad
46:07and then off
46:07of Volstead
46:09and Hartman
46:10on the dump in
46:11trying to fool
46:11Wedgwood
46:12as Minnesota
46:14gets a quick
46:14wholesale change
46:15you gotta give
46:16Natrushkin credit
46:17though for
46:17laying that puck
46:19ahead like he did
46:20and so flat
46:21perfectly
46:23here's a turnover
46:23right in front
46:24O'Connor
46:25couldn't get it
46:26cleanly off the backhand
46:27as Boldy was pressuring
46:28Boldy took his shoulder
46:30from Drury
46:31Minnesota gets it in
46:32Johansson and Taves
46:33pushing one another
46:34McCarr and Taves
46:35together here
46:36as that puck got
46:37through O'Connor
46:38out of his goal
46:40comes Volstead
46:41and it does sneak
46:42out to center
46:44Vanilla you're off
46:45puts it in Boldy's
46:46corner
46:46Boldy leaned on
46:48by Taves
46:49down goes
46:49Boldy
46:50Taves right there
46:53Johansson and Drury
46:54involved as well
46:55as this puck
46:56stuck along the boards
46:58hold to the slot
46:59only
47:00Parker Kelly
47:01was there
47:01but then he gave it up
47:04Minnesota needs a change
47:05so
47:05a brief respite
47:06for McCarr
47:07and the avalanche
47:08that pass
47:08tipped in by O'Connor
47:10from McCarr
47:11and put Damon
47:12hunting to the wall
47:14well before
47:15McCarran
47:16takes his shoulder
47:16from Colton
47:17Blankenberg
47:18off the visor
47:19of Tarasenko
47:23play settles down
47:24and it's Molenski
47:25put that one
47:26right behind the back
47:27of O'Connor
47:27it'll travel down
47:28for an icing goal
47:32well going back
47:32to that goal
47:33by Blankenberg
47:34from the goaltender's
47:35perspective
47:35maybe thinking
47:36that as he got this
47:37on the forehand
47:38that he was just
47:38going to flip this
47:39up high
47:40and it doesn't
47:41I mean it goes
47:42over the pad
47:42under the glove
47:43and you can see
47:44that the position
47:45there of Ballstead
47:46kind of stabbing
47:47at that one
47:47right there
47:49and look
47:49at the crowd
47:50outside here
47:51on a beautiful night
47:52here in Denver
47:55not everybody
47:56could fit
47:57in this building
47:57they're excited
47:58outside
47:58they're excited
47:59inside
48:00had a heck
48:01of a start
48:01through a hockey game
48:02pass to the line
48:04kept by Quinn Hughes
48:06oh
48:06that one hit
48:07referee right
48:08in the back
48:09Eric Rank
48:09wearing that one
48:12turned over
48:13O'Connor
48:14Ross Colton
48:16he's got some space
48:16in front of him
48:17and offside
48:18was
48:19casually
48:20at the line
48:2313 and a half
48:24to go
48:25second period
48:26action
48:26six goals
48:27already combined
48:30the NHL
48:31on TNT
48:32is brought to you
48:33by Capital One
48:34what's in your wallet
48:39I know what's in your wallet
48:40there big guy
48:41here's the pressure
48:42that Colorado
48:43puts on Jake Middleton
48:44and they end up
48:45scoring a goal there
48:46play the outlet
48:48backhand pass
48:48to the middle
48:49miss the mark
48:50and Nate just takes
48:51advantage of it
48:52and so do
48:53the Colorado Avalanche
48:54now listen
48:55I know we're showing
48:56Jake Middleton
48:56here on these scenarios
48:58but a lot of ice time
48:59for him with
49:00Brodine
49:00not in the lineup
49:02it's a significant miss
49:03on the backhand
49:04certainly
49:05for the Minnesota Wild
49:06because Middleton
49:07would go down
49:07with Bogosian
49:08and of course
49:09Brodine would be
49:09with Spurgeon
49:11he is familiar
49:12with Spurgeon
49:13though
49:13they have played
49:13quite a bit together
49:14in the past
49:15but right now
49:15he's got to simplify
49:16and do it a little bit
49:17quicker
49:17I agree
49:20here comes a chance
49:21for Tarasenko
49:22what a move
49:23and he scores
49:28Tarasenko
49:29a la Peter Forsberg
49:31brings Minnesota
49:32back within one
49:36beautiful play
49:36going one way
49:37holding it out
49:38the other way
49:39and it looked like
49:40he had nothing at all
49:42he has scored
49:43some big goals
49:44in his NHL career
49:45scored on his first
49:46two NHL shots
49:47and one of them
49:48was like that
49:49at Madison Square Garden
49:50I remember
49:51going one way
49:51one hand the other way
49:53Wedgwood Bites
49:53sliding to the right
49:55the extension of the stick
49:56a marvelous move
49:58uses his right skate
49:59to get it to the stick
50:00and then barely
50:01getting this pass
50:02before Burns
50:03can help the goaltender out
50:04that is just a brilliant move
50:06by Tarasenko
50:07and how about
50:08in the neutral zone there
50:09a little zip and tip
50:11as McCarron got the puck
50:12it's a little chip
50:13to the middle of the ice
50:14to speed
50:15and then when Tarasenko
50:17got that puck
50:18boy
50:19high end skill
50:22I remember
50:23at Madison Square Garden
50:24the first goal he ever
50:25scored there
50:26was
50:26that exactly
50:28down the middle
50:29of the ice
50:29made that move
50:30and it was a thing
50:31of beauty
50:32it's a comfortable move
50:34for him
50:34as you can tell
50:35right there
50:36Tarasenko
50:37a two-time Stanley Cup
50:38champion
50:39won with St. Louis
50:40in 2019
50:40won it in Florida
50:41in 2024
50:44and he scored
50:45a big goal
50:46in game six
50:48to tie the score
50:51against
50:52the Dallas Stars
50:53now he's got his second goal
50:55of the postseason
50:55it brings Minnesota
50:56within one
50:57in this back and forth affair
51:0151st playoff goal
51:03for Vladimir Tarasenko
51:06and guys
51:07Minnesota
51:08already has
51:08three even strength goals
51:10that is one more
51:11than Colorado allowed
51:12in their entire
51:13first round series
51:14against the Los Angeles Kings
51:17it is as we expected
51:19going to be a different
51:20series here
51:20but it also is as expected
51:22it's going to be a whole lot
51:24of fun
51:24oh I mean this was
51:25this second round collision
51:27with Colorado
51:28was predicted
51:29and tinkered
51:30by each lineup
51:31from Dallas
51:31and Minnesota
51:33months in advance
51:36both teams
51:36expected
51:37to be here
51:38both teams
51:39are here
51:40putting on a show
51:40let's go back
51:41to this goal
51:41by Minnesota
51:42as Faber makes
51:43a great play
51:44off the wall
51:44and then it's
51:45to the middle
51:46of the ice
51:46keep an eye
51:47on McCarron
51:4747
51:48he's going to
51:48work his way
51:49to the red line
51:49then the far blue line
51:50and Faber
51:51with pace
51:52and there's a little
51:53tip to speed
51:53and that's when
51:54Trenion
51:54gets it to the middle
51:56of the ice
51:56and that's why
51:56they were so excited
51:57on the bench
51:58because that's something
51:59they would have worked on
52:01that shot
52:01never made it through
52:02breaking up ice
52:03is Boldy
52:04the pass
52:04banked in his direction
52:05Boldy against
52:06Molenski
52:06trying to spin
52:07from his knees
52:08his pass
52:08came to the wall
52:09and Johansson
52:10took a hit
52:10from Landis God
52:13down Machuskin
52:14his pass
52:14into the skate
52:15of Kulak
52:16calling up
52:16by Landis God
52:17Machuskin

52:24for Kulak
52:25slap pass
52:26through the middle
52:26of the ice
52:27oh that puck
52:28caught Molenski
52:29at that face
52:30it sure did
52:32here's Middleton
52:33walks on in
52:36Kulak
52:36trying to keep
52:36away from the net
52:37Middleton's got his
52:38stick back
52:39he's trying to get
52:39back into the play
52:40and that puck
52:41does escape the zone
