00:19:53That was right from the start.
00:19:54They're in perfect structure.
00:19:55Four guys.
00:19:56One guy pulls out.
00:19:57Now Tampa's out of their zone.
00:19:59And if you look at the zone time here, in that period, Tampa has 230.
00:20:03Montreal only spent 25 seconds in the Tampa Bay zone.
00:20:07Now, you want to get up that in like four, five, six minutes per period.
00:20:11For 25 seconds, that's not even close to being good enough.
00:20:15So they're not forechecking hard enough.
00:20:17They're not putting the puck in where they can get it.
00:20:19They're not putting the puck in where they can pressure Tampa.
00:20:23Tampa's breaking out way too easy.
00:20:24Going corner to corner, making plays or flipping the puck out.
00:20:27And even the shot attempts.
00:20:28They only had five.
00:20:29They didn't have a shot on net.
00:20:30They only had five shot attempts that whole period.
00:20:33They had 18 in the first.
00:20:34And they had five that period.
00:20:36So they're going to have to get, if they want to win this game,
00:20:38they've got to get that forecheck going.
00:20:40They've got to spend a lot more time in the Tampa zone.
00:20:42And they've got to obviously get a lot more pucks going to the net.
00:20:46Is it hard changing your team's mentality in between periods right now
00:20:49by saying, boys, we've got to be way more on our toes?
00:20:52Is it that easy?
00:20:53Or is it kind of like you're already in the rhythm of the game?
00:20:55Well, right now it's desperation time.
00:20:57This whole season's on the line.
00:20:59So they see that.
00:21:00So you go in and say, okay, guys,
00:21:02clearly we're not spending any time in their zone.
00:21:04Clearly we're not putting enough pucks on the net.
00:21:06So we've got to change our whole mentality.
00:21:08If we're going to go for this, we're going down fighting.
00:21:10So let's go get it, right?
00:21:12Let's not live to fight another day.
00:21:15Let's go get it.
00:21:16So you've got to get a lot more aggressive.
00:21:17But you've got to have four lines.
00:21:19If that's a rolling four lines,
00:21:21defend five guys on the same page.
00:21:23Every time we know where the puck is going,
00:21:25keep it away from Vassie and get five guys in on that forecheck
00:21:29and hem them in, spend a little bit more time in that zone.
00:21:32The good thing for the Montreal Canadiens too,
00:21:34won 61% on their faceoff.
00:21:36So they're at least starting with the puck.
00:21:37They have the puck.
00:21:38They have the puck.
00:21:39Now make smart decisions when you have that puck on the third period.
00:21:41And I don't think they can wait, Biz.
00:21:43There's seasons on the line like Bones is talking about.
00:21:45Got to go.
00:21:45Play not to lose.
00:21:46You've got to play to win.
00:21:47That's what it feels like.
00:21:48It feels like Bones, you want to get their attention.
00:21:49Say, if we keep playing like this, it's over.
00:21:51It's over.
00:21:52You're making it way too easy for Tampa to just take the pace of the game.
00:21:56Massive third period coming up in a series
00:21:58that has been extremely tight.
00:22:01Four overtime games.
00:22:02It's 1-1.
00:22:03As we get to the third in game seven.
00:22:05I'm coming, boys.
00:22:07I'm coming.
00:22:07I'm coming.
00:22:10Carried the weight of a champion.
00:22:13My head to the sky, McQueen.
00:22:16I carry the weight of the team.
00:22:20I'm coming.
00:22:23Today I'm going to make them believe.
00:22:30Both goals tonight scored on deflections.
00:22:34The Stanley Cup playoffs on TNT presented by Geico.
00:22:38Dominic James on the left.
00:22:40Nick Suzuki on the right.
00:22:41The goal scorers tied at one.
00:22:45As we begin the third period, Montreal, no shots on goal.
00:22:49Only five shot attempts in the second period.
00:22:54And they had two power plays.
00:22:56And line changes coming for the Canadians to start this third period.
00:23:00Our SAP Coaching Insights app.
00:23:02Fewest shots on goal.
00:23:04In a game seven.
00:23:08After all, only four so far tonight.
00:23:11Doesn't matter.
00:23:12It's 1-1.
00:23:14Yes, it is.
00:23:18Buffalo Sabres await the winner.
00:23:20Here's Hagel.
00:23:21Fires the puck around.
00:23:23Stopped behind the net by Doves.
00:23:27Canadiens with a goal from Suzuki in the first period.
00:23:30James answered for the Lightning at the second.
00:23:33Here's Devinoff.
00:23:34Up the boards and down.
00:23:38Mozer and Devinoff come together.
00:23:41Point.
00:23:42Unable to clear.
00:23:44The pinch in there by Dobson.
00:23:46Now Mozer with it for Tampa Bay.
00:23:51There's Hudson.
00:23:52Back into the Lightning zone.
00:23:54Quick hit from Hagel.
00:23:56Corey Perry works the puck back to McDonough.
00:23:59And then Radish.
00:24:02Foul for the puck along the boards.
00:24:04Hudson kept it alive for Dobson.
00:24:06Two pinches there by the Canadiens defenseman.
00:24:10Now Anderson in deep.
00:24:11Dobson.
00:24:12Puck rolled off his stick.
00:24:14McDonough with the log outlet pass.
00:24:17Grab it in by Dobson.
00:24:19Back up the left side.
00:24:20Too far for Dobson.
00:24:25There's Gouley for Montreal.
00:24:27A minute and a half in.
00:24:29Third period.
00:24:31Play is offside.
00:24:36So the New York Islanders back in 2015 against Washington.
00:24:41In the expansion era.
00:24:44And since 1967.
00:24:47Fewer shots on goal in a game seven.
00:24:50Marty St. Louis Canadiens with just four.
00:24:58Only two shots from forwards.
00:25:01One of them, the deflection by Suzuki.
00:25:04There's a player sitting on that bench for the Canadiens.
00:25:06You know you haven't had a shot on goal in forever.
00:25:11Everybody understands the first time you get an opportunity to get it to that head.
00:25:15Everybody's going to, you're not going to try to make any fancy plays or anything.
00:25:19You're just going to try to get there with it.
00:25:23There's Paul turns and shoots.
00:25:25Missed it in.
00:25:26Puck flipped back around by Little Bird.
00:25:29Gouley over for the Canadiens.
00:25:35Game seven here in Tampa.
00:25:38Paul keeps it alive.
00:25:41Paul held up by Texier.
00:25:45And now it's Evans.
00:25:46Settles the puck down for Montreal.
00:25:51Texier with it.
00:25:52Back across for Carrier.
00:25:54As the Canadiens go for a change.
00:26:01There's Goldeuss.
00:26:03Willeberg back on it for Tampa Bay.
00:26:05Here comes Gallagher.
00:26:10And now McDonough goes up the middle.
00:26:14Offset along by Gonsalves for James.
00:26:16This line has been outstanding all game long.
00:26:19Closed up there by Hudson.
00:26:21Gonsalves sends in deep.
00:26:24Yorkstrand for Tampa Bay.
00:26:27Puck knocked out of the zone by Kirby Dunk.
00:26:30Here's Paul Duke.
00:26:31And across the Tampa Bay line with a shot that's blocked by Yorkstrand.
00:26:36Hicked up by Hudson.
00:26:38And now Gallagher sends it back.
00:26:44Three minutes gone in the third.
00:26:46Kenny Albert.
00:26:47Eddie Olchek.
00:26:48Brian Boucher.
00:26:48Jackie Redman.
00:26:49In Tampa.
00:26:51Demidoff.
00:26:52Into the corner.
00:26:53Moser.
00:26:54Back on it.
00:26:55Hicked by Suzuki.
00:26:57Slavkovsky comes over.
00:26:59And now it's Hegel.
00:27:03Lightning.
00:27:03Back into the Canadian zone.
00:27:05And now the puck is clear.
00:27:07Played by Slavkovsky.
00:27:09Closed up there by Moser.
00:27:10There's Sorelli.
00:27:13There's Sorelli.
00:27:13Couldn't get it past Demidoff.
00:27:16Demidoff.
00:27:17Into the far corner.
00:27:18Suzuki.
00:27:19Suzuki and Moser.
00:27:20And Moser's stick goes flying.
00:27:23They're kept alive by Dobson.
00:27:25And now Hagel clears.
00:27:28One thing that is very noticeable boost from up top.
00:27:31The defenseman for Montreal being a little bit more aggressive in the offensive zone.
00:27:36Trying to keep longer shifts in the ozone to keep some plays alive.
00:27:40Yeah.
00:27:40And Biz talked about it in the intermission.
00:27:42I think in the second period just a little too passive.
00:27:45Maybe after scoring that first goal you start to subconsciously take your foot off the gas a little bit.
00:27:51But they look a lot more aggressive here to start this third period.
00:27:53Here's Deneau for Montreal.
00:27:55Back out to the right point for Carrier.
00:27:58Off the stick of Deneau.
00:28:01And the Lightning again.
00:28:02Move the puck out.
00:28:05Gunsel dropping it back for Corey Perry.
00:28:07A shot.
00:28:08That was blocked.
00:28:09It winds up out of play.

00:28:31Well, Jake Gensel makes a nice little play here to Corey Perry.
00:28:35Perry comes out and gets that stick-on-puck mentality.
00:28:39And Perry wasn't happy about the end result with that puck going into the netting.
00:28:45A good play to create the chance, but a better play defensively by the Canadian.
00:28:50Last time Montreal won a Game 7, 2021, in Toronto, Corey Perry had the game winner for the Canadians that
00:28:58night.
00:29:02They would then lose to the Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final.
00:29:06Offside.
00:29:07Or the Lightning.
00:29:08Corey Perry wearing a microphone for us tonight.
00:29:14You're going to the corner.
00:29:19Oh, yeah.
00:29:25Red hand turn.
00:29:35Check this out.
00:29:36Corey Perry coming into this game.
00:29:4011 career Game 7s.
00:29:42The entire Canadians' roster combined had 12.
00:29:51Perry playing it as 244th playoff game, most among active players.
00:30:02We remain tied at 1.
00:30:05Five minutes gone, third period.
00:30:07Here's Willeberg.
00:30:09Buck deflected in deep.
00:30:12Doves will leave it behind the net.
00:30:15Dobson couldn't play it.
00:30:16And a save by Doves.
00:30:18What a beautiful pass there by Bjorkstrand.
00:30:21Stole the puck.
00:30:23Got it out to Gonsalves.
00:30:28Again, I think Tampa just not getting the puck up top.
00:30:34On Doves.
00:30:39You see the roll of the ice there, knowing that that's a quality chance.
00:30:47Good effort there by Bjorkstrand with the steal.
00:30:52Now, Talvis with the overtime winner in Game 6.
00:30:54An assist on the Tampa Bay goal scored by James here tonight.
00:30:58On the power play.
00:30:59Punched in on goal by Kucherov.
00:31:01And it's covered up by Dome.
00:31:16No goals on either side through regulation in Game 6 in Montreal.
00:31:20Boosh, what is Vasilevskiy thinking about since last time he had a shot here?
00:31:25Well, I mean, you mentioned it's a 1-1 game, right?
00:31:28So you've got to worry about the next shot.
00:31:30And if you can handle pucks as much as possible, talk to your defenseman, stay engaged that way.
00:31:35The one thing about Vasilevskiy is that this is where experience matters.
00:31:39And I think you learn how to manage the game and stay within yourself, even though you're not getting a
00:31:44lot of work.
00:31:44But it can be a stressful time when your team only gets you one goal, one goal of run support.
00:31:52But you've got to worry about it when it comes over the red line your way.
00:31:55And I think for Vasilevskiy, that experience will pay off well in a situation like this.
00:31:59I don't think he's going to beat himself.
00:32:00He will find a way to stay engaged, even in the tightest situation.
00:32:05Here's Suzuki with a shot.
00:32:10Finally, the first shot on goal for Montreal since the Suzuki goal to the latter stages of period one.
00:32:18And there it is, right?
00:32:20You get ready for it.
00:32:21And that's what I mean.
00:32:22When the puck gets over that center red line, that's when you start to really get engaged.
00:32:27And for Vasilevskiy, calmly makes that save.
00:32:30You wouldn't know that he hadn't had a shot in a long time.
00:32:32And then the fans in Montreal giving LeBron's cheer.
00:32:37As the Canadiens finally get a shot on goal.
00:32:40They went just under 27 minutes.
00:32:43I think it's more like the Shakutami cheer there, Boosh, not the Bronx.
00:32:4926 minutes, 57 seconds.
00:32:52In between the shots.
00:32:54To Montreal, number 4 and 5 on the night.
00:32:57Now Slavkovsky with it.
00:32:59Tried to cut around Radish.
00:33:01Slavkovsky moves it back over to Dobson.
00:33:05Slavkovsky.
00:33:07There's Hudson.
00:33:09Locked off by Kucherov.
00:33:11Locked out with pass.
00:33:12Hagel.
00:33:13Hagel there with a shot.
00:33:14And that's blocked by Govesh.
00:33:16Beautiful pass there by Kucherov to hit Hagel.
00:33:24Just over six minutes gone.
00:33:26Third period.
00:33:27Game 7.
00:33:28In Tampa.
00:33:30Still tied.
00:33:30What a piece.
00:33:35And that's what we're going to do.
00:33:35We're going to have to take a look at the tablet on the bench.
00:33:39And they might be looking at a couple of their shifts where they have been much more aggressive.
00:33:46In this third period.
00:33:48Game 7.
00:33:48Tied up at 1.
00:33:52And yeah, it can be risky at times.
00:34:23But instead of sitting on your heels.
00:34:25Paul had a lot more.
00:34:26I think he had way more time than he thought.
00:34:29Trying to get to the center of the ice.
00:34:32And Cooley was able to deny him.
00:34:34Here comes Paul.
00:34:37He pains control of the puck.
00:34:39Nick Paul for Tampa Bay.
00:34:41Now Yanni Gorn.
00:34:43Pass.
00:34:43Picked off.
00:34:44And cleared out of the zone by Anderson for Caulfield.
00:34:48A bouncer.
00:34:49In on Vasilevsky.
00:34:58Got to be really smart here.
00:35:08Anderson and Lillierberg.
00:35:15Heavy collision after that bouncer boost.
00:35:18Went in on Vasilevsky here.
00:35:20How about that?
00:35:21Not a lot of work.
00:35:22If he did a little short hopper.
00:35:30What are you focusing on, Boosh?
00:35:32On a dump in like that.
00:35:33Well, you don't want to get cute.
00:35:35That's where you just got to.
00:35:36You want to get as big as possible.
00:35:38You may leave a rebound.
00:35:40Because you're trying to block it.
00:35:41You have no idea where it's going to bounce.
00:35:43If it lands.
00:35:44If the puck lands on its edge.
00:35:46It's almost like one of those funny balls.
00:35:47You have no idea where it's going to go.
00:35:49And you're better off blocking it than trying to be cute.
00:35:52And for Vasilevsky.
00:35:53Fortunately for him.
00:35:54He was able to get it.
00:35:55And it kind of hit him in the bread basket.
00:35:57He was able to get a whistle.
00:35:59A smart play by Suzuki.
00:36:02Trying to short hop that one.
00:36:06New hook on the draw with James who wins it.
00:36:11We approach 13 minutes on the clock.
00:36:13Third period.
00:36:14Game 7 in Tampa.
00:36:17Here's Chernak.

00:36:27Knocked to the ice by Hudson.
00:36:29Knocks head back around.
00:36:32And hustling over was Chernak.
00:36:34Cut off behind the net by Dobson.

00:36:39Off the skate of Chernak out of the zone.
00:36:41Moves it back down.
00:36:46Jobs now 24-6.
00:36:48In favor of the lightning.
00:36:54There's Cooley.
00:36:56Into the Tampa Bay zone.
00:36:58Closer back to pick it up from his goaltender.
00:37:03Radish couldn't handle the pass.
00:37:05Cooley with it once again.
00:37:07And now Yulai Slepkovsky.
00:37:09Here is Suzuki who has the Montreal goal.
00:37:12That shot blocked by Kutcheron.
00:37:15Boy, Suzuki had a chance, Busch, as he entered the zone.
00:37:21To get that puck over to Demidov.
00:37:24Right part of your screen.
00:37:26He's going in the net.
00:37:27It was even like, it's not a great look to be able to show what we saw.
00:37:31But it was one of those situations where there was a lot of open ice.
00:37:36Demidov is there, and you know what Suzuki's doing.
00:37:40He's got the puck on his forehand, and maybe he didn't see it right away.
00:37:43And by that time, Kutcheron came back, put the stick in the passing lane,
00:37:46took it away, and then he tried to shoot it.
00:37:48And then Kutcheron did the right thing defensively and blocked that shot.
00:37:55Ball and duck.
00:37:56Lightning control the draw.
00:37:58That's two in it.
00:37:59That's one of those there where Suzuki just throw a little area pass
00:38:02and let Demidov skate into it.
00:38:06Down to 12 minutes remaining is Gallagher.
00:38:09No stick, Dastu.
00:38:10Gallagher fired in.
00:38:11Dastu heading to the Tampa Bay bench.
00:38:14Picks up that new stick.
00:38:17Pass was too far for Dastu.

00:38:58Good play here by Braden Point.
00:39:00It's two Canadians to kind of bite on him.
00:39:03That opens up Chernak.
00:39:04And then the traffic at the front of the net.
00:39:06Govesh had no idea where that one was and went up into the netting.
00:39:15This is the fifth game in this series in which the teams were tied heading into the third period.
00:39:22All six games decided by one goal.
00:39:26Four have gone to overtime.
00:39:31Now it's Gergensen's.
00:39:33Bucks away from Deneau.
00:39:37Gouley back on the puck for Montreal.
00:39:39Now Dobson hit by Gergensen.
00:39:42Escapability there by Dobson.
00:39:45Here's Deneau.

00:39:52Back out of gunshot by Gouley.
00:39:54Another block.

00:39:56Here's Gouley looking for the stick of Anderson.
00:39:59Now a drive by Dobson.
00:40:00And that's blocked by Gonsalves.
00:40:02Another block in front.
00:40:04Puck is loose.
00:40:06Went to the boards.
00:40:09Now Gouley with it.
00:40:11Cross-eyes Caulfield.
00:40:13Puck comes back around for Dobson.
00:40:16The former New York Islander.
00:40:18Dobson leading it for Gouley.
00:40:21Back it comes to Dobson.
00:40:24Dobson shoots.
00:40:25Another block.
00:40:28Bergensen's once again.
00:40:30Puck flipped wide of the net.
00:40:32Kept away from Anderson.
00:40:34And it's cleared out by Gergensen.
00:40:36Five shot blocks by the Tampa Bay Lightning on that last shift.
00:40:42Gergensen's with two huge ones.
00:40:45Fans showing their appreciation here in Tampa.
00:40:48In a 1-1 game.
00:40:50Just past the midway point.
00:40:51A period three.
00:40:52And the first block really stung him.
00:40:54And he hung in there to do a job.
00:40:59Puck sent in deep by Sorelli.
00:41:01Chased by Hagel.
00:41:03Here's Hagel for Tampa Bay.
00:41:05Cuts away from Bathyssen.
00:41:07Leaving the puck for Kucherov.
00:41:10Rock-a-cross.
00:41:11Pass was too hard from Moser to Kucherov.
00:41:14Slavkovsky over from Montreal.
00:41:16Kept in the zone by Kucherov.
00:41:18And now Hudson with it.
00:41:19Moser's got to shoot that puck in the middle of the ice.
00:41:24Flipped ahead by Demidoff.
00:41:25Knocked down by Suzuki.
00:41:28Wiping goal for a change.
00:41:29And Edzo Hagel comes right to the bench.
00:41:31It's exactly what he said.
00:41:32Shoot it.
00:41:33He couldn't believe it.
00:41:35I love when the forwards yell at the defense.
00:41:40Kucherovsky out for Newhart.
00:41:44Here's Hudson with a shot.
00:41:45Sticked aside by Vasilevsky.
00:41:47They score!
00:41:48Banked in off.
00:41:49The goaltender Vasilevsky and the Canadians
00:41:53take a 2-1 lead.
00:41:55What a play by Newhook.
00:41:57Backed it in off the goaltender.
00:42:08He makes an unbelievable play.
00:42:12He knocks this puck out of midair.
00:42:16And he bats it towards Vasilevsky.
00:42:19Watch his bounce right here.
00:42:21It bounces off the pad, off the backside,
00:42:27and into the back of the net.
00:42:30All in one motion.
00:42:33And the Canadians somehow, someway,
00:42:37with eight shots on goal,
00:42:39got two goals,
00:42:39and they got a 2-1 lead.
00:42:43That is unbelievable.
00:42:49What a play by Newhook.
00:42:52Tough for the goaltender.
00:42:53You know it goes off the end wall,
00:42:54and you've got to try and get back to your net
00:42:56as quickly as possible.
00:42:57And it's bouncing.
00:42:58You don't expect the guy to bat it out of midair.
00:43:00You think you've got a little bit more time.
00:43:04Here comes Gensel, cutting wide.
00:43:07Huck out to the point.
00:43:09Moser got the flex to the corner boards.
00:43:13Alex Newhook, the only member of the Montreal Canadian squad
00:43:16with a Stanley Cup ring.
00:43:17He won with Colorado in 2022.
00:43:21Has given the Canadians a 2-1 advantage.
00:43:25Down to 8.20 remaining.
00:43:28Tremendous play by Newhook.

00:44:052-1 Montreal.
00:44:07Third period.

00:44:19Coming up next, out to Denver.
00:44:21Second round in the West gets underway.
00:44:23Quinn Hughes in the Minnesota Wild getting set to take on Alex Newhook's former team.
00:44:28The Avalanche and Cale McCarr.
00:44:31Game 1 of that series.
00:44:32Puck drop 9-10 Eastern.
00:44:34For now, though, let's go back to Kenny.
00:44:35Edzo, Boosh, Jackie.
00:44:39Thanks very much, Liam.
00:44:422-1 lead for the Montreal Canadiens.
00:44:46Alex Newhook, go-ahead goal.
00:44:48Saved by Dobish.
00:44:49Dobish is lined up right with Gensel.
00:44:52With the face-off.
00:44:53If you look before the face-off is dropped, the puck is dropped.
00:44:57He's lined right up with Gensel.
00:44:59He goes back to the face-off, but then he knows that that's a left stick off a face-off
00:45:04win that's available for a one-timer there.
00:45:05Good save by Dobish.
00:45:15Lightning control of the draw.
00:45:17Here's Lillenberg.
00:45:19A bouncer through the crease, wide to the left of Dobish.
00:45:22If you ever saw it, that thing changed direction and also slowed up and just missed to the far side.
00:45:28Here is Gastew for Tampa Bay.
00:45:30Across to Lillenberg.
00:45:32Casing with Newhook.
00:45:33Perry sends the puck around.
00:45:36Anderson over for Montreal.
00:45:40Dumped at the line by Gensel for point.
00:45:43Now it's Gensel.
00:45:45Dave Gensel, back out.
00:45:47And the Lightning must reset.
00:45:517.15 remaining in regulation.
00:45:55Newhook from Hudson and Gouley.
00:45:58Gouley's second assist of the night.
00:46:00At 11.07 of period three.
00:46:03Now Suzuki slots the puck ahead.
00:46:05Chasing with Radish.
00:46:06Suzuki stopped by Vasilevsky.
00:46:08Here comes Kucherov.
00:46:10Into the Montreal zone.
00:46:12Puck poked off his stick.
00:46:15Bouncing puck.
00:46:16Knocked out of the air by Sorelli.
00:46:18Out it comes to Radish.
00:46:20Shot misses the net.
00:46:22Suzuki picked off.
00:46:23Gouley's second assist.
00:46:24Gouley's second assist.
00:46:25Gouley's second assist.
00:46:26And that's reflected away from Brandon Hagel.
00:46:28Yeah, he was looking for Hagel as he was getting some separation in the offensive zone.
00:46:34Now Slavkovki sends the puck on back.
00:46:37Dobson with it as the Lightning go for a change.
00:46:39And Logan have had a couple of chances in this game.
00:46:41They just haven't been able to get the puck elevated on the glove side of Dolbysh.
00:46:46And it's got to be up around the shoulder or the ear area.
00:46:51A lot of them have kind of been mid-level type of shots.
00:46:54And see if they get a clean one and go to that area.
00:46:58Burnett couldn't play the puck.
00:47:01Kept in the zone by Tampa Bay.
00:47:03And now it is cleared out by Matheson.
00:47:08Nice and call Montreal.
00:47:09Oh, he showed the chance by Getzel off the faceoff.
00:47:12And there's that chance by Bjorkstrand.
00:47:14And he pulls this thing into his body.
00:47:17Again, just kind of off his midsection there, Boosh.
00:47:23I think there's some room up in that area.
00:47:25And you'd be able to speak to it better than anybody.
00:47:27Being able to get that glove over the shoulder or by the ear.
00:47:30Well, you said it.
00:47:31Right up by the shoulder.
00:47:32If you get him to move and then back against the grain,
00:47:35it's almost impossible to get your glove up in that area.
00:47:38Right up by where the red part of his shoulder is.
00:47:42Above the glove.
00:47:43I mean, that's a very difficult save.
00:47:45If you're moving to your right to get it with your left shoulder.
00:47:50Knocked out of the zone by Texier.
00:47:53Sends it down into the Tampa Bay end.
00:47:55And now the Canadians go for a change.

00:48:40Alex Newhook with the go-ahead goal.
00:48:42About an hour before the game, Eddie, after we met with John Cooper, you and I were walking towards the
00:48:47elevator to get up to the broadcast booth.
00:48:49And about 10 of the Canadians were playing soccer in the hallway.
00:48:53After we walked past that group, Alex Newhook was all by himself.
00:48:57He was so focused.
00:48:58He was doing exercises with his eyes.
00:49:01And you talk about the hand-eye coordination on that go-ahead goal.
00:49:07Gobson stung by that shot by Hagel.
00:49:10There's Lovkovsky.
00:49:13Lovkovsky has his shot blocked by Radish.
00:49:16And he's breaking his stick.
00:49:21Under 5 to play.
00:49:25Changes on both sides.

00:49:37James out here with Gensel and Kucherov.
00:49:40Anything goes right now for the Lightning as far as line combinations.
00:49:47On control by Matheson of the Canadians.
00:49:51Looks to cut away from Kucherov.
00:49:54Punks that into the Tampa Bay zone.
00:49:58Gets man out on his new hook.
00:50:00Now Dastu over for the Lightning.
00:50:04Up the right side, Kucherov.
00:50:07Kucherov only one goal in this series.
00:50:12Into the Montreal zone.
00:50:13It's Gensel off the skate of Evans.
00:50:15Cleared by Anderson.
00:50:21Neither team has won consecutive games in this series.
00:50:25They have alternated wins.
00:50:26Here's Bjork Strand.
00:50:28Puck comes back out to Chernak.
00:50:30Chernak shoots.
00:50:32Where's the puck?
00:50:33Knocked down by Texier.

00:51:04Down to 315 remaining.
00:51:06J.J. Moser.
00:51:08Lightning need a goal.
00:51:10Railing 2-1.
00:51:13Now Radish up the middle.
00:51:15Puck flipped ahead by Hegel.
00:51:20Battle for the puck.
00:51:21Deneau comes away with it.
00:51:22Knocked off his stick and then cleared by Evans.
00:51:27Pass-2 back on it for Tampa Bay.

00:51:42This will be an icing call.
00:51:43No, it hits a stick.

00:53:38Whistle was blown.
00:53:43Deneau got up and tripped Radish.
00:53:46Radish gave him a couple of pretty good shots when he was down over the puck.
00:53:50Crosscheck to the back of the head.
00:53:53Deneau gets up and gives him the business as well.
00:53:58As much as Radish gets this puck.
00:54:00Watch the shot that he gives Deneau.
00:54:01Right there.
00:54:02A little crosscheck right in the head.

00:54:41This puck's got to get out.
00:54:42Got to get out.

00:55:38Out of the zone.
00:55:38A minute 10.
00:55:43Now Radish.
00:55:47Here's Hegel.
00:55:48Kucherov.
00:55:49Final minute.
00:55:50Third period.
00:55:51Puck is cleared.
00:55:53Chasing after it is Suzuki.
00:55:55Rolling for the empty net just wide.
00:56:01Now Slavkovsky.
00:56:03Keeps it alive in the Tampa Bay zone.
00:56:06Kern shoots.
00:56:06It's blocked.
00:56:07Down to 40 seconds.
00:56:09Here's Kucherov.
00:56:11Now Braden Point.
00:56:13Pass blocked off.
00:56:14Canadians clear.
00:56:16Slavkovsky.
00:56:1730 seconds.
00:56:19Slavkovsky.
00:56:20To the empty net.
00:56:21Blocked.
00:56:22Hagel.
00:56:22What a play.
00:56:24Now Gensel looks the puck ahead for Gonsalves.
00:56:27Time running out on the lightning.
00:56:29Puck kept away from Kucherov.
00:56:30By the long stick of Matheson.
00:56:32And then Anderson knocks it ahead.
00:56:36Offside.
00:56:38Clock stops at 13 and 4 tenths seconds.
00:56:43What a play here by Brandon Hagel.
00:56:50Oh my goodness.
00:56:52It was like the Matthew Kachuk empty netter save a couple of years ago.
00:56:57Incredible.
00:56:58And Slavkovsky, yeah.
00:57:00Absolutely shaking his head.
00:57:05What a play by Brandon Hagel.
00:57:09And there's going to be a timeout here for the lightning.
00:57:16They've added two seconds back on.
00:57:19Just a couple of times, Boosh.
00:57:20The refusal of Tampa wanting to dump the puck in.
00:57:24Instead of, they tried to make plays east, west, laterally.
00:57:28Instead of keeping the puck going north.
00:57:31And Montreal read it.
00:57:33They made a, I mean, their sticks.
00:57:34We touched on it, Boosh.
00:57:36Their body position and sticks in a lot of situations have shut down a lot of plays off the rush.
00:57:41And in the defensive zone for the Canadiens.
00:57:45Yeah, and the last one was when it got to Kucherov on that right side wall.
00:57:48He tried to make a play to beat a couple of guys.
00:57:51And as you mentioned, good sticks, knock it down, get the clear.
00:57:55And they almost were able to ice the game.
00:57:57But if not for a terrific play there by Brandon Hagel, this thing would be lights out.
00:58:02Let's see if the lightning have a little, a little more trickery up their sleeve.
00:58:08With 15.3 to go.
00:58:14Face off in the neutral zone.
00:58:18It'll be Paul and Donneau.
00:58:20Just over 15 seconds remaining.
00:58:22Donneau wins it.
00:58:23Back to Matheson.
00:58:25Blocked off and settled by Radish.
00:58:2610 seconds.
00:58:27Sticked aside by Gobech.
00:58:29Matheson fires the puck down.
00:58:31That's a penalty.
00:58:32That's a penalty.
00:58:34Yes, it is.
00:58:35Delay a game on Matheson.
00:58:38With just under six seconds remaining.
00:58:41It's going to be a six-
00:58:42Delay a game.
00:58:44And Chris Rooney, referee, was right on that.
00:58:46He had the perfect sight line.
00:58:48They're going to check the clock here.
00:58:49They're going to check it.
00:58:51The puck is on edge.
00:58:53Never touches anybody.
00:58:54Goes directly into the crowd.
00:58:58They're going to go to 6.3 seconds here.
00:59:01And now the Lightning huddle up.
00:59:03Try to set up a play to Boosh's right.
00:59:08Referee Chris Rooney comes over and says,
00:59:10No, let's go.
00:59:11We're going to drop the puck.
00:59:13So there is more than enough time.
00:59:18On a clean win here to set something up.
00:59:22But understanding the situation and how much time is left.
00:59:26Remember, Radish has that booming shot.
00:59:28And Montreal's taking a timeout.
00:59:29Oh, they're going to use their timeout here.
00:59:34And Marty St. Louis is going to get the dry erase board out.
00:59:40For the Canadians.
00:59:43Assistant coach Jeff Halpern of the...
00:59:46Tampa Bay Lightning will do the same.
00:59:526-on-4 advantage for the Lightning.
00:59:556.3 seconds on the clock.
01:00:05The key is, is that if it's a 50-50 puck
01:00:10off of the faceoff,
01:00:11the urgency goes way up for Tampa.
01:00:14Because you...
01:00:14Whatever play you have set up,
01:00:17that kind of goes by the wayside.
01:00:19But if it's a clean win,
01:00:21and it's a direct touch,
01:00:23then you can get into your...
01:00:25into your offensive set.
01:00:29And if you're Montreal,
01:00:30you're trying to make this one of those...
01:00:32one of those scrambles
01:00:34to buy and kill some time
01:00:36to move on to round two.
01:00:43Buck is dropped.
01:00:45Paul sends it on back.
01:00:46There's Kucherov with a drive.
01:00:47It's blocked and cleared!
01:00:49Suzuki the block!
01:00:50The Montreal Canadiens win game 7 on the road!
01:00:54And will take on the Buffalo Sabres
01:00:57despite nine shots on goal,
01:01:00the fewest ever
01:01:01in a playoff win in NHL history.
01:01:08Montreal
01:01:10takes game 7.
01:01:27The Tampa Bay Lightning fall in the first round of the postseason
01:01:31for the fourth consecutive year.
01:01:38there's Andre Vasilevskii, standing to lead the line of his team all by himself.
01:01:52There's Andre Vasilevskii, standing to lead the line of his team all by himself.
01:02:05What a game, Jakob Dobich.
01:02:08You know what it felt like tonight?
01:02:10It felt like 2010 Canadian Ziaroslav Holak, where his team was hemmed in and the goaltender did a job.
01:02:18What a performance by the rookie.
01:02:19Boosie is the first rookie goaltender to win a game 7 on the road since Jordan Bennington with the Blues.
01:02:26Stanley Cup Final in 2019, then Boston.
01:02:41Martin St. Louis, Montreal Canadiens win the series in 7.
01:02:48There's Corey Perry, veteran of 244 playoff games.
01:02:52Remember, St. Louis won a Stanley Cup in this building.
01:02:55Game 7 with Tampa Bay in 2004.
01:02:58We asked him prior to the game, Game 7 in Tampa, when you walked in today,
01:03:03what memories come flooding back?
01:03:04You said, yeah, there are some, but I'm just worried about tonight.
01:03:07And the Canadiens got it done.
01:03:30Corey Perry was on the losing end of the Stanley Cup Final with Montreal against Tampa Bay.
01:03:37Josh Anderson was one of his teammates that year.
01:03:42Nick Suzuki played for John Cooper at the Olympics over in Milan.
01:03:51And Marty St. Louis played for John Cooper when Cooper first took over as the head coach of the Tampa
01:04:00Bay Lightning.
01:04:04That was back in 2013.
01:04:15Nick Suzuki scored the first goal for the Canadiens.
01:04:18He's their captain, and he's standing by with Jackie.
01:04:20Nick Suzuki, congratulations.
01:04:22They say good things come to those who wait.
01:04:25You get your first goal in this playoffs in the biggest game of the season.
01:04:28How important was it for you to make an impact tonight?
01:04:31Yeah, you know, it's been a hard series.
01:04:33You've got to give them a lot of credit.
01:04:35They made it super difficult for us.
01:04:37And, you know, to get one in the first period, you know, made the group kind of settle down a
01:04:41little bit.
01:04:41But, yeah, it was just a great battle the whole series, to be honest.
01:04:46Zero shots on goal in the second period was a bold strategy.
01:04:49What did you guys talk about in the second intermission to get things going the other way?
01:04:54Yeah, it was kind of our worst period of the whole series, and luckily Dolce stood on his head there
01:04:59for us
01:04:59and, you know, kept it a tie game.
01:05:01And, you know, we just didn't want to end on that kind of effort.
01:05:04And, you know, the guys really dug in there at the end.
01:05:07What was Marty St. Louis' message coming into this game?
01:05:10There was a lot of talk about the experience on the other side.
01:05:13What can you say about his leadership as your coach?
01:05:17I mean, yeah, his leadership's incredible for us.
01:05:21You know, we trust him with our lives.
01:05:23And, you know, he just told us, you know, we played all these games before and felt like game sevens.
01:05:28And, you know, this is just another game.
01:05:29And he really got us fired up to go out there in the third and do a good job.
01:05:33How did he get you fired up?
01:05:35Just a lot of motivational speaking.
01:05:38You know, he always seems to know what to say, which is probably his best trait that he has.
01:05:42He strikes me as a guy that might dabble in the motivational YouTube videos that are out there.
01:05:47But you guys said you were ready for this challenge.
01:05:49You proved that you were.
01:05:51So what can we expect in the second round against Buffalo?
01:05:54You know, a lot more of the same.
01:05:55I mean, they're a really talented team.
01:05:58You know, we've gone up against them a bunch this season already.
01:06:00And it's been good battles.
01:06:02So, you know, just got to rest, recover, and get ready for the next game.
01:06:06Well, congratulations on this one.
01:06:07You're headed to Buffalo.
01:06:08Thank you.
01:06:09Thank you.
01:06:09Thank you.
01:06:41It'll be the eighth playoff series between the Canadians and the Sabres.
01:06:46The first since 1998 in Lindy Ruff's first season as Buffalo's head coach.
01:06:52Coming up next, the Wild and the Avalanche.
01:06:55For Eddie Olchek, Brian Boucher, Jackie Redmond, and our entire crew.
01:06:59Lead up in the gang coming up after these messages.
01:07:02The Wild and the Avalanche.
01:07:03The Wild and the Avalanche.
01:07:06The Wild and the Avalanche.
01:07:06The Wild and the Avalanche.
