00:00Can you tell us what this is?
00:01So in here we have some Tannerite.
00:03We're going to make a little bang when we finish this.
00:06All right, here's Pavel into the position.
00:09One shot, take your time, make it count.
00:13My name is Pavel and be a man with me.
00:19Yeah!
00:21Oh, that was sexy.
00:23Oh my goodness.
00:24That was awesome.
00:26Every man should know how to use a gun.
00:28It's basic self-defense, it's God-given right,
00:32and it is cool as shi-
00:35Damn!
00:36Today we are at K&M Shooting Complex.
00:39We're going to spend a day with Kyle Lemp,
00:42former Delta Force operator and Battle of Mogadishu survivor.
00:46If there's one guy I can learn from how to shoot long-range,
00:50big guns, that's the guy.
00:55Kyle decided to bring his 12-year-old grandson Denver,
00:59and I will be competing with him.
01:01The kid is shooting since age of four,
01:03so he has eight years of experience,
01:05and I've never shot a long-range rifle.
01:09Hey, Pavel, while you're at the Frothy Monkey
01:11drinking soy latte, I'm out here trading.
01:13He is a certified trash talker.
01:15He is probably the most badass kid I've ever met.
01:18And that got me thinking,
01:19if there's one thing I learned so far on this show,
01:22is that manhood is taking responsibility and serving community.
01:27Part of that is teaching younger generations
01:29how to do the same thing.
01:32All right, Denver, who's your daddy?
01:34What does he do?
01:49The judge for our competition today will be legendary John Skowden,
01:54son of TV host Jim Skowden.
01:56He has many lessons to hand down as well.
02:00This is a big gun.
02:02Well, not really, no.
02:03This is a big gun for me.
02:05Okay.
02:05Okay.
02:05It's a Sig Cross, and that is a factory rifle.
02:08So it's a six-millimeter cream more,
02:10so we're shooting a 105-grain bullet.
02:12Holy shit.
02:13I'm sorry.
02:15First thing we learned is about gun safety.
02:18Always be safe with guns.
02:20They're fun, but they're really, really dangerous.
02:22We got some safety rules we're going to follow.
02:25The first one is we're going to treat every weapon
02:26as though they're loaded.
02:27Second of all, we're going to keep our finger off the trigger
02:29unless we're engaged in a target.
02:31What's another one, Denver?
02:32Know what's behind your target and in front of it.
02:34There we go.
02:34Know your target.
02:35Identify your target.
02:36Know what's in front and beyond your target.
02:37Good.
02:38The last rule is don't point your weapon at anything
02:40you don't want to destroy.
02:41Although usually we look at it as at least one cameraman
02:45is expendable for every shoot that we do, right?
02:48Colton.
02:49That's Colton.
02:50Then they showed me how to calibrate the distances,
02:53do the tick marks, and adjust the wind so I could calibrate the scope.
02:58So that little dot in the center is where we want to put that target.
03:01Okay.
03:01Then each one of these is 0.25 mils.
03:04So John Boyd, what did he come up with?
03:06Energy and maneuverability theory for F-15s and F-16s.
03:09Very similar to what ballistic coefficient is.
03:110.25, 0.5, 0.751, 1.25, 1.5, 1.752.
03:17Does that make sense?
03:18You're familiar with John Boyd?
03:20From Mission Impossible, right?
03:21Well, actually from a real mission, yeah, but...
03:24It's a lot of math here that I didn't expect.
03:26Yes, right, and so we're not trying to make you learn a bunch of math.
03:29We're trying to make you learn a little bit about shooting and to do it safely.
03:33I still don't know how to do any of it, so that's cool.
03:38It's kind of romantic, isn't it?
03:40This is our target, and these are super, super small.
03:43About a half of an inch is the size of that target, so that's what Pavel's going to try to
03:47hit.
03:47Okay, so I put up a target at 100 yards. I'm going to have Denver get in position,
03:51and he'll show you how to do this.
03:53First thing Denver's going to do is pull out his empty chamber indicator,
03:56then he's going to turn on his level.
03:58There we go. So see what he's doing with his left hand?
04:00He's putting his left hand back there to control that bag in the rear.
04:03If he squeezed the bag, the gun goes lower.
04:05If he loosens it, the gun goes higher.
04:08Okay, Denver, load it up.
04:09Now what he's doing, he's getting his eyes on the target,
04:11then he's going to reach up and close the bolt.
04:13He's going to make a good shot.
04:16Okay, you see where it went, Denver?
04:18Yep.
04:25Drop that magazine out. Show Pavel how you take the mag out.
04:29He just pressed that.
04:30It turns out.
04:31All right, let's get Pavel down here.
04:32I'm nervous.
04:34Don't be nervous.
04:34That's why I'm like...
04:35No, don't be nervous. This gun does not recoil whatsoever.
04:38Okay.
04:38Okay, it doesn't kick at all.
04:41Second I got there, they started dumping a lot of information
04:44on me, so it went from zero to 100 in one second.
04:47Okay, let me extend this stock for you so that we get it back to the man setting,
04:52because I think this is called be a man, right?
04:54Apparently. We'll find out about that.
04:56Look over your scope at where that target's at.
04:58Try to align it.
04:59I'll try to find that in the scope.
05:01You see in it?
05:02Nope.
05:02So for you, let's go the next line down.
05:04You go the second line down on that target.
05:07We're not on target.
05:08Go to the right, Pavel.
05:09There you go.
05:10Down, buddy, down.
05:11You're kind of getting close on the gun.
05:13We need to have this to your shoulder.
05:15Look at him from behind.
05:16He's turning the corner and his head's too far up.
05:18Pull his hips back.
05:19There you go.
05:19And then let's turn our shoulders square and try to just drop down behind the scope.
05:23So he's three lines down right in the middle of target, not on a dot.
05:26Okay, you did.
05:28Right in the middle, exactly where the gun was pointed.
05:30Okay, we're going to...
05:30He just wasn't pointed at a dot.
05:32Can I go up in power?
05:33At least I gave him a little more.
05:34Relax, relax, dude.
05:35You're tense, bro.
05:36Let me give him a massage.
05:38We got to relax, bro.
05:39Relax.
05:39There's a lot of voices in his head right now.
05:41Yeah, right.
05:43I don't think I retained a lot of it, but I think basics are there.
05:47And there's a translation going on too.
05:50Perhaps yes, no.
05:51I will shoot target.
05:52I will shoot this target where I feel like I put my crosshair.
05:55It does not matter.
05:56Shoot that.
06:00Not bad, right?
06:01Damn.
06:03There's your first round you ever fired.
06:04Put that in your pocket.
06:05Yeah.
06:06That's actually cool.
06:07Dude, good job, man.
06:09Good job.
06:09It's stressful.
06:11It's cool, but it's stressful.
06:17That gun's a hammer, dude.
06:18Yeah, that gun's a hammer and he knows how to use it.
06:20You know what?
06:21Let me shoot.
06:21I'm going to shoot three rounds real quick too.
06:25Perfect break.
06:27Perfect break.
06:30If anything, right edge.
06:32But that's three right on top of the black.
06:33Okay, let me put a chamber flag in this thing.
06:37And that dude, you got a better group than Kyle.
06:40Yeah, you outshot me, Pavel.
06:42Look at this.
06:42He has a better group than Kyle.
06:44You got a better group than everybody.
06:46I think that was coincidental and the miracle and amateur lock.
06:50I'm feeling like he might be a bit of a ringer, dude.
06:52I think he is.
06:53I think that he was probably a former Grom guy and he's holding out on me.
06:57I swear I've never shot a gun like this in my life.
07:00Now that you've seen Pavel shoot, do you feel like you have some competition today?
07:03Not really.
07:05Honestly, not really.
07:07Sometimes I even surprise myself.
07:09Not terrible for the first time.
07:11But now it's competition with a little bit of time restrictions.
07:15I might get annihilated by 12 year old, but we'll see.
07:18Maybe not.
07:19We're going to start right now.
07:20We're going to have him shoot some of these positions to get comfortable with it.
07:23So now we're setting up behind the vehicle.
07:25It's a little bit trickier because the gun will slide around.
07:27Denver's been shooting for many, many years.
07:30For eight years, he's been shooting.
07:32We've practiced just for what we're going to do here.
07:34Okay, good.
07:35One more.
07:36Pavel come completely cold from the stable and he's shooting really well.
07:40Yeah, he doesn't have a chance of winning, but he definitely has a chance of shooting
07:43really well on this and that's what matters to me.
07:46If he goes through this and he gets most of his hits, I'll be ecstatic.
07:49If he just goes through and shoots and doesn't do anything, well then that sucks.
07:52I want him to learn and do it correctly.
07:55What I love about you truly and what I think every man should be,
07:59you are some dangerous guy.
08:01At the same time, you're the warmest, sweetest human on earth.
08:06And I think every man should be that way.
08:09Okay, good.
08:10Okay, bolt to the rear, drop the mag.
08:12So the Bible says the meek shall inherit the earth.
08:15A lot of people think that meek is a translation for weak and meek is not.
08:20And I've always looked at a meek person is the man that carries a sword and knows how to use
08:28it,
08:28but he has decided to keep it in the sheath.
08:31But watch out when he pulls it out.
08:34So look what he's doing.
08:35He's got his body square.
08:36He's got his left hand here and that's controlling the gun to keep it from bobbling left and right.
08:41The men that I respect are good God-fearing men that love their wives,
08:47that love their children, that do the best they can for the people around them, their neighbors.
08:52So what are your hopes for Denver?
08:54I hope he can fulfill his dreams.
08:57He's leaned in the direction that he wants to do some military stuff and he wants to be a pilot.
09:02Half mil left, Denver.
09:03And he wants to be an engineer.
09:05So he's got to figure out what part, which direction he wants to go there.
09:08There's so many opportunities that we have in America.
09:12All they got to do is figure out where they want to go.
09:14Okay, good.
09:15One more.
09:16What do you think about your grandpa?
09:18Very high expectations, but I really like him.
09:22What happened there?
09:23I hit it.
09:24No, it went to the right.
09:25See where it went?
09:25Yeah.
09:26I think it's pretty good that he has good expectations because
09:28he's just making me be the best I can be, which I like.
09:31Not pushing me too far, at least.
09:32Do you have any role models?
09:34Somebody I'm trying to be exactly like or somebody I just get?
09:37Someone who inspires you.
09:39Okay, they're my grandpa.
09:42Got it.
09:43I love that you're still wearing the goggles.
09:47Did you forget?
09:49Yeah.
09:51I'm going to keep wearing them.
09:55All right, good hit.
09:57You know what, my friend?
09:58I think you're ready for competition.
10:00Okay, we got the most awesome thing that happened right now.
10:04We got scope eye.
10:05Look at the camera.
10:07Oh my gosh.
10:08I knew that would happen.
10:09I saw that earlier.
10:09He was hunting.
10:10Scope eye, brother.
10:11He was hunting.
10:12That's good.
10:12That's a rite of passage.
10:14What happens to a lot of shooters, they get tight on the scope because they think it's going
10:17to make them shoot better.
10:18And what it actually does, it restricts your view and then the scope will come back and hit
10:22you.
10:22I didn't see you get that close, but you got it good.
10:25Look at the camera now.
10:26Look at this guy.
10:29All right, let's do some competition, I guess.
10:32This is going to cost you extra, bro, to have me do this cosmetic surgery on you.
10:37All right, dude, you look awesome now.
10:40Competition's about to begin.
10:42We got four locations, two rounds per location.
10:45Each round worth five points.
10:46A miss is worth minus 10 points.
10:48We're starting here at the trailer.
10:50We're going to come down here at the rocks.
10:52This is location number two.
10:53Location number three is going to be at the car down here.
10:56And then finally, we're going to end up on the perch where it's going to be location
11:00number four for the last location.
11:02Good luck, Pavel.
11:03You're going to need it.
11:05We have instituted a 60 second time limit for the engagement.
11:09So any shots not fired in 60 seconds count as misses.
11:13Obviously, that adds an additional pressure.
11:15I'm going to have him shoot at 500 yards.
11:27Shooter ready.
11:28Stand by.
11:29Go.
11:30So on the go, this first position will play in Denver's favor.
11:36He's compact.
11:37This is going to be a tight kneeling position for Pavel as a full stature man.
11:41Good.
11:41Denver's got all the moves.
11:43He knows how to manipulate the rifle.
11:46He knows how to build a quality position.
11:48Oh, he shot high.
11:50Take your time.
11:51Take your time.
11:54Okay.
11:54Impact.
11:55Go to the rear.
11:56He's at minus five points then.
11:58Yep.
11:59That hurt.
11:59That hurt.
12:00That's a tough scoring system.
12:02All right, Pavel.
12:03Make it happen, brother.
12:04Okay.
12:05Ready?
12:05You got the band-aid for padding, which is helpful.
12:07In the event you do crunch over the rifle again, I genuinely believe he learned his lesson
12:12on that other position.
12:13I sure hope so.
12:15But here's where we find out.
12:16Okay.
12:17Here we go.
12:17He's going high.
12:18Looking around the range.
12:19Where is the target?
12:20I've gone fishing for it.
12:22Hit.
12:23Okay.
12:24Impact.
12:24Five points to the good.
12:26If he can make this one, he will be in a significant advantage position.
12:30I can see his back straps literally through his Euro Asian shirt, and it genuinely appears like...
12:36If they make those shirts in men's sizes, we might have to invest in one for him.
12:41There's no way that was a hit.
12:42Impact.
12:43Was it?
12:43Wow.
12:44Drop the out.
12:44Pull the bolt to the rear.
12:46Wow.
12:47Okay.
12:48After the first engagement, the score is Pavel 10, Denver minus five.
12:53Three, two, one, minute.
12:56All right, Denver.
12:57Make them count, buddy.
12:59This is a very generous time limit for two 500-yard shots from a stable, otherwise stable position.
13:06Impact.
13:07Nice.
13:08Okay, take your time.
13:09You've got plenty of time.
13:10Denver, you've got plenty of time, brother.
13:13Impact.
13:14Golly.
13:14Okay.
13:15You're going to like that when you see the trigger cam.
13:17That was hot.
13:19That's definitely Kyle Lamb's grandson.
13:22Three, two, one.
13:24Go.
13:24One minute on the clock.
13:26He's got 10.
13:26He needs to miss.
13:27Okay, here we go.
13:28He's on it.
13:30Impact.
13:33Uh-oh.
13:34Impact.
13:35It's good.
13:36Okay, drop the, uh...
13:37Two quality shots and no more blood.
13:40Hey, dude.
13:41That was awesome, bro.
13:42He's killing it.
13:43He's killing it right now.
13:44He's better than he should be.
13:45That's all I'm saying.
13:46At this point, I was feeling real good.
13:49This big rifle.
13:51Every time you pull the trigger, you feel like absolute badass.
13:55The last two engagements, the data for elevation had already been applied to the rifle.
13:59In this case, competitors are going to have to add the data to the rifle.
14:04Find it.
14:05Then add the magazine and the ammunition.
14:07Then build a quality position.
14:09Then acquire the target.
14:11Then determine the amount of hold based on the wind and environmentals.
14:14And then make a quality shot all in 60 seconds and not hit themselves in the head with the rifle
14:19scope.
14:21Okay, miss.
14:22Uh-oh.
14:23Minus 10.
14:24I think he's letting that time get into his head.
14:28Impact.
14:29Okay, unloading so clear.
14:30I think you rushed that first shot.
14:32Yeah.
14:33A bit nervous.
14:34Didn't you?
14:34Yeah.
14:35Okay, that's all right.
14:35Minute on the clock starts.
14:37Three, two, one, go.
14:39So essentially, Denver has landed back at zero for Pavel.
14:44Once again, assuming a very retro sort of dance club position,
14:49here we are again.
14:51Retro dance club position.
14:53We are...
14:54Oh, he's found the target bank.
14:55That's good.
14:57Miss.
14:59You hit low.
15:02But I can tell you this right now.
15:04It's going to be a miss.
15:06Oh.
15:06And I'll tell you why, ladies and gentlemen.
15:08Unload.
15:09You forgot to dial your data.
15:11Yes.
15:12Okay.
15:13I think they're tied.
15:14Yes.
15:14It is currently all tied up at zero.
15:18I totally forgot about data.
15:20It comes down to two shots.
15:22If I'm going to make it, I'm going to win the competition with a 12-year-old.
15:28Awesome.
15:29Don't forget to dial, Denver.
15:31Okay.
15:31Final position.
15:33You guys all ready?
15:34Okay.
15:35Timer whenever you're ready.
15:36Half mil left.
15:37Three, two, one, go.
15:39Half mil left.
15:40There is no data on the gun.
15:42We've got wind now greater than we've had all day.
15:45The good news give back is they get a prone position, which is about as stable as it gets.
15:51Make it count.
15:52Half mil.
15:52You got time.
15:55Shoot again.
15:57Take your time.
16:00Good.
16:01Okay.
16:01He just barely hit that one.
16:03Okay.
16:03One miss.
16:04Four seconds to spare.
16:05Three, two, one.
16:07Hit it.
16:07All right.
16:08Here's Pavel into the position.
16:09He's found it.
16:11Half mil left.
16:18He's got his hand on that thing so hard.
16:22Ripping time.
16:24Impact.
16:25Last one was over time.
16:27Oh, was it over time?
16:29Oh, man.
16:30Oh, yeah.
16:31Tie.
16:31Back to tie.
16:32Back to tie.
16:33Okay.
16:34Clear the weapon.
16:35Oh, the official timekeeper said that shot was late.
16:39That makes it a tie.
16:40We've come down to the final engagement between Denver and Pavel.
16:43This single shot is worth 25 bonus points and should be pretty entertaining.
16:59Yeah.
17:04All right.
17:05Yo.
17:05Bolt to the rear.
17:06Oh.
17:07That was a good one.
17:08Okay.
17:08Pavel's up.
17:09Let's make it happen, Pavel.
17:11My name is Pavel and be a man with me.
17:24Why should every man learn how to shoot a gun?
17:27A firearm is simply a tool.
17:29I think it falls under the canon of manlyhood.
17:34Whether you intend to be a competitive shooter, whether you intend to just have an understanding
17:42of the safe function of firearms, a real man is a provider.
17:48A real man is prepared.
17:51And if you've ever heard the adage, be the warrior in the garden versus be the gardener
17:57faced with war.
17:58Yeah.
17:59That really sort of ties it all up for me.
18:04Perfect.
18:05Perfect break and follow through.
18:07Well done.

18:15Be involved with your children.

18:22Men should develop his skill, be responsible, and protect his family.
18:28And after years of experience, he should pass along his knowledge to the future generation.

18:37I'm beyond grateful.
18:38Mr. Kyle is that man.
18:40And I hope that one day I can be that man as well.
18:44Tell me about the competition.
18:45How did I do?
18:46Much better than I expected.
18:48Me too.
18:49What were you predicting without knowing me and meeting me?
18:53Oh, I was expecting some guy with like a tactical vest with like half of his life of experience.
18:59Really good.
19:00And what did you get then?
19:03An amateur?
19:04Yes.
19:07You are cool.
19:08Cool.
19:09I mean, you are cool.
19:10I appreciate it.
19:11You're cool, too.
19:11I try to be cool.
19:13I'm not as cool as you.
19:14No, you're very cool.
