00:34I feel bad for Mark. He is someone who loves this game. He's so good at it.
00:38He absolutely dominated in his last season. In a season that had really dominant players, he was one of them.
00:45And he fell so short.
00:49Mark looking over at Ferris and Caroline now.

01:12Mark can no longer stand the pain. He steps out. He is out of the challenge.

01:28But without further ado, let's bring in one of the biggest players the franchise has seen.

01:41Hello, Mark. Oh, my goodness.
01:45That tribal council was so crazy.
01:48And I feel for you.
01:50You were betrayed by Caleb.
01:52How are you feeling today?
01:56I've cooled my jets, finally.
01:58Like, meeting, talking to both of you two today has taken the edge off.

02:03Yeah, look, I had a whale of a time this season.
02:08We can tell.
02:09I didn't leave anything out there.
02:12So, the fact that I put all of my love into that little rat bag that is Caleb and then
02:16he stabbed me in the back.
02:18Kind of serves me right.
02:19Maybe it's but, no, I feel good.
02:21And I'm very happy to be here with both of you.

02:24Both of you are legends.
02:24Well, I would say that that name applies to you as well, Mark, because you stamped your name all over
02:31this season and it was so good to see.
02:34So, now that you are joining us live from Samoa, you're still in it.
02:39You're still feeling, like, what is the residual feeling you have from that tribal council?
02:43Obviously, you've mentioned the rat bag Caleb, but did you think that this was going to happen?
02:49Um, you know, like, I kind of got to the point where after I played my idol and Rich went
02:55home, I just felt like there was a tidal wave of, like, people gunning for me, which was kind of,
03:02like, fair.
03:03So, I had to kind of put my head in a space where I'm like, how is this actually going
03:07to work?
03:08I don't even have a majority of numbers.
03:09So, I'm relying on, like, other people stuffing up.
03:13And I kind of just went all in on Caleb.
03:15And everyone was like, Mark, you can't trust Caleb.
03:18You've got a blind spot for Caleb.
03:19And so, I think, like, I just wanted to just go all in.
03:23And I felt like if I tried to do something else, then I was really going to be cooked.
03:30So, I was just like, you know what?
03:31Go all in.
03:32And you know what was so nice was to have Simon, Keeley, and, of course, Brooke just to go into
03:39that for me.
03:39That was just the nicest feeling.
03:41Yes, absolute shout out to Brookie.
03:43So, yeah.
03:45Like, that was so cool to have all of those players really put their games on the line, too, for
03:49me.
03:50And they didn't even trust Caleb.
03:52So, yeah.
03:53I don't know.
03:53At that point in the game, I'm just like, go all in.
03:56Try.
03:56And if it works, it works.
03:58And if it doesn't, yeah, it's absolutely going to be me.
04:00And even going all in, it's like you could have spread yourself thin and you could have put, you know,
04:06if you divided your time between three people and it still could have been the same outcome.
04:11Because realistically, all you needed is one.
04:13So, I feel like you truly did everything that you could do.
04:16And I think it's way smarter to just be like, I need one.
04:19Let me invest everything I've got into this one person.
04:23And, yeah.
04:24Like, I feel like you were doing such a good pitch.
04:27And Caleb.
04:29Spoken like a seasoned professional.
04:32Yeah.
04:32Oh, yeah.

04:35No, I mean, like, Caleb is a, I feel like no one else, maybe apart from Blanche, but, like, Caleb
04:40and I had this interesting relationship.

04:43You know, born on the first night with Don.
04:46I mean, that doesn't happen with anyone, you know.
04:49And, like, he and I, like, really bonded.
04:52And I feel like a lot of other people didn't really get Caleb the way that I got him.
04:56And so.
04:57I don't think I get Caleb.
04:57Obviously, I was wrong.
05:00Obviously, I was wrong.
05:01But, yeah, I had to go all in on Caleb.
05:05And, yeah, when I saw that little, like, monster next to my name, I was just like, took my breath
05:10away.
05:11It's like an ice pick to the heart.
05:13Yeah, yeah.
05:13Like a dark horse, I'm a nightmare, Mark.
05:16Can we just rewind a little bit to earlier in the day?
05:19You were pitching a Simon vote to Sally.
05:22I think you were trying to coalesce a bit of a group around that.
05:25Was that real or was that more just kind of misdirection?
05:28No, I, like, absolute misdirection.
05:30I wanted all of the Sallies and the Lozzers and the Camerons to feel like I was just the most
05:36pragmatic player.
05:38I would say anything that I needed to do, to say, to get through.
05:42And I wanted them to believe that me, Simon, Brooke, and Keely were not working together.
05:47So, I was just throwing Simon, throwing him under the bus, saying all these terrible things about him.
05:53He's a dog.
05:54Yeah, he's a dog.
05:55I said to him, I'm like, you throw shade at me too, brother.
05:57Like, don't hold back.
05:59Um, so, yeah, there was absolutely no way that I was going to do that.
06:04I can't play with Cameron and Sally, please.
06:06No.
06:07Like, no.
06:08Why is that?
06:09Why is that?
06:10Why have you identified them as people that, like, you found really difficult to play with?
06:13I think that, like, at that point in the game, Cameron, like, and I had a little bit of a,
06:19you know, as George would say, a direct conversation.
06:23An iron fiercer.
06:26We just agreed that, like, our games didn't align.
06:30He was saying, you know, like, everything that you want to do, Mark, is about, like, picking off these other
06:36people because you already have, like, quite a good resume.
06:38Whereas he's like, I'm trying to make big moves, so I just never thought that they would really want to
06:43work with me.
06:44I just needed them to believe that I would throw Simon under, like, the biggest bus known to humankind.
06:50So, um, so they would actually split the vote.
06:53And then they did.
06:53They actually did.
06:55He's been there before.
06:55It's okay.
06:56Yeah, it's fine.
06:57He's been under the bus many, many times.
06:59I know.
07:00Yeah, let's reverse it back and forward and back.

07:04Let's talk about Brooke because I've played with Brooke.
07:07Yes.
07:08Shonny's played with Brooke and now you have.
07:10What is it about her that makes people so threatened?
07:14Um, I think Brooke is so funny.
07:16I think she is so silly.
07:18And when, I think it's that, like, that, like, disconnect between expectation and then when you meet her, you're like,
07:25wow, she is just, like, so relatable, so funny.
07:29And she's had, like, Survivor in her life for so long as well.
07:32So she just kind of, like, dips in and out of it, but it doesn't dominate her life.
07:36So it's just that perfect mix as a player.
07:39But then, as she gets deeper into the game, you see her, like, put on waterworks at the drop of
07:46a hat to win a pie.
07:47Or she can play, like, she can, she is so good at, like, acting scared, but you know deep down
07:54she's, like, ready to stab them in the back.
07:55So, um, she is, she has so many skills.
07:59And then, obviously, like, in challenges, she's, she's so good.
08:02But I actually think that her, um, her, her, like, ability to connect with people around camp is, is her
08:09actual best asset.
08:10And then just being a challenge beast is a, is a lucky bonus.
08:13So, yeah, I reckon Brooke is.
08:15She's the full package.
08:16She really is.
08:16She is the full package.
08:18I want her to win so bad.
08:19I hope she can make it.
08:20Now, Mark, you were in a very close alliance with Faith.
08:24What happened there?
08:26Talk us through regrets.
08:29Happy with your choice.
08:30Tell us.
08:31I have no regrets with Faith.
08:34I think it was definitely a good move for me.
08:37Um, Faith is such, she's one of these people that you meet in Survivor.
08:41And I instantly was like, she's my girl.
08:44Like, just off the bat.
08:46Her, like, confidence, her strong energy, her decisiveness, and her willingness to, like, not give two Fs about, like, other
08:55people is quite attractive to me.
08:57And I always align myself with these sorts of women.
08:59So, I love it.
09:00I knew, as soon as I met her, I'm like, I'm aligning with Faith.
09:02But as, like, the game got, as the game progressed, I think she started to really tell me her honest
09:11thoughts, possibly a little bit too much.
09:13Like, I, she was basically telling me, like, Mark, I'm not going to take you to the end.
09:16I'm going to stab you in the back.
09:17I'm going to put you on the jury, and you're going to vote for me to win.
09:19I don't want to vote you off.
09:21Like, I have to put my, like, eggs in a basket.
09:26Of course.
09:27Like, I know, this is the thing.
09:28You say to me, like, this is, here's the honest, some honesty for you.
09:32If you get to the end, yeah, you win over me.
09:35Because you're who you are.
09:36Like, you already have a status.
09:38So, of course, you're going to say that to me.
09:40But I'm not going to say that to you.
09:43Like, you know, because I've seen your game, and your game outshines mine.
09:48But without you, my game is great.
09:50But I feel like with all the attorneys, there's, like, this respect of giving them the jury.
09:57And it was, like, it was getting very honest.
10:00And then I also felt like she was trying to dictate my game to me a lot.
10:06And I don't like that.
10:09So, I think when I saw the opportunity, it was just irresistible to take her out.
10:16Yes, we've all been in that position before.
10:18We know that feeling.
10:20And it is kind of like, if you let that opportunity pass up, you might not get it again.
10:25So, I fully understand where you're coming from with that.
10:28Now, one of the things I loved was early on in the season, you made a comment at Tribal Council
10:35that the Samoan jungles are full of the voices of your dead allies.
10:41It was dramatic, poetic, loved it.
10:45We have a really diverse tribe.
10:48Some people have played games before outside of Survivor.
10:51And some people have the Survivor DNA in their blood already.
10:56So, even though I might have a little experience under my belt, I'm not underestimating this tribe.
11:01But how do you figure out who has that Survivor DNA?
11:04I listen to my gut.
11:07And the jungles of Samoa are haunted.
11:12Is there a chance the jungle is haunted by bad decisions?
11:16Bad decisions and dead allies.
11:19They are constantly whispering in my ear, reminding me of my mistakes and reminding me to look after my people.
11:27Whose voice was it specifically?
11:29And what were they saying to you?
11:31And can you hear them better now that you're dead too?
11:34Are you now in the Samoan jungle whispering to your tribe?
11:40Keely's like, is that you, Mark?
11:44Yeah, I forever live rent-free in their heads.
11:47That's my...
11:47Yes, yes, yes, yes.
11:48Yeah.
11:50Literally, I was on the beach where Viola got voted off.
11:54And it haunts me.
11:56When Viola got voted off, I literally put her shoelaces into my shoes and I scattered her clothes around the
12:03camp to haunt other players.
12:04Like scattering the ashes.
12:05Oh, God.
12:06It's getting very voodoo.
12:07I love this.
12:08Little did I know that it was actually going to haunt me the next time I played.
12:13And so, yeah, it was just that idea that you sometimes have an opportunity in the game and if you
12:20don't take it, you may never get it again, which is what Shani said before.
12:23And so, when Kat started saying to me, oh, I don't trust faith and that's going to be a future
12:29problem, I'm like, the future is now, Kat.
12:32You don't get to like, we don't get to like vote off Johnson and you're already planning where the next
12:38vote's going.
12:38And that's exactly kind of where I, I mean, that's where like my allies, a lot of my allies got
12:43voted off.
12:43Last time was that I think like I could see the problem in the future, but I just wished it
12:49away, put like a mic on and then was like, I'll deal with that problem later.
12:53And so, as soon as Kat was saying that, I was like, I have to pick who I want to
12:58align with.
12:59I like Faith, I like Brooke, I like Keely.
13:01So, it was Viola's name that was whispering, Viola's voice in my ear.
13:05And I was like, I'm not going to have Kat make a Viola out of Faith.
13:09So, she had to go, but like doing that in the first Tribal, I was just like, I'm, I'm like
13:15just blowing up any idea that I'm going to fly under the radar.
13:19I'm just going to go for it.
13:21And, and Keely was like such a, it's like showed such skill in that Tribal Council.
13:27She, she really understood what I was saying and she was not afraid to play live at Tribal Council as
13:32well.
13:32So, I don't think I could have done it without Keely.
13:35I'm a huge Keely fan myself.
13:37Huge Keely fan.
13:38Oh, she reminds me so much of you, Shonny.
13:41Really?
13:41She is great.
13:42Yeah, she's, she's really, really cool.
13:44Another Queenslander.
13:45I was just about to say, oh, I can't wait to talk to her, but hopefully we don't talk to
13:48her.
13:50Let's talk about another one of your losses, not to rub it in.
13:53But you lost at fire making in that double Tribal fire.
13:57Can you talk about that?
13:58He's like, no, it's too triggering.
14:00I can't, I can't.
14:01Off limits.
14:02Next question.
14:02No, I mean, that was kind of, I felt like I got like a little gimme there because it was
14:08like,
14:08if I lose at fire, Fez goes home.
14:11Yeah.
14:11If I win, then like, I get like another little gold star and then I win at fire making.
14:17And I, in my last season, one of the things that I've grappled with is should I have put
14:21myself up in fire against Ferris, like, and actually try to show down at that moment.
14:26So I was kind of thinking, actually, I don't want to, I want to see how I go in this
14:30fire
14:31making challenge, um, just to like the survivor experience.
14:35And so I knew that they would probably put up Simon as well.
14:38And I wanted to have a little strategic chat at the fire making challenge.
14:41I thought that'd be pretty fun.
14:42Um, but yeah, I gave it a go.
14:44Like it wasn't, it wasn't the greatest fire I've ever made.
14:47Like it was a bit crap.
14:48It's better than any fire I've ever made.
14:50I was about to say, have you done a fire making before?
14:53No, I've tried, but I'm just there.
14:55Like the cows will be home and I'll still be clanging on that thing.
14:59I did one with Brooke in season one.
15:00It was so much fun.
15:01It's such a, that is a tick, tick off moment.
15:03So yeah.
15:04And I kind of thought that like, if I actually find myself in that final four position somehow,
15:09I don't know how it was going to happen, but I was like, I would like to have known like
15:13just like the nuts and bolts of doing the fire up at that station, as opposed to like
15:18doing it back at camp.
15:19So it's not like the most like fun answer, but I was just like doing my homework, like
15:22a good school board.
15:23Yeah.
15:23No, this is like a, this is like a, like a dry run for potentially when I really need
15:28it in the future.
15:29Um, but yeah, but like the thing with that fire making challenge was the smoke was going
15:34everywhere.
15:34It was really getting in our eyes.
15:36And then I really wanted to do, use my suit jacket to like protect it.
15:40And then like, I've seen it where people have like sweat dripping off their face and it's
15:45like they're getting sparks and the sweat is just like dropping.
15:48I'm like, Oh my God.
15:49I'm sitting there like backseat driving.
15:52Do it like this, like talking to big game.
15:55Like I can make a fire.
15:56When you've got the sweat dripping down your face onto a fire, it's a real look,
15:59Shonny.
15:59Yeah.
16:00I recommend.
16:01That glamorous do.
16:03I just love the way you talk about the game, Mark.
16:05I just feel like you've got such insight.
16:08I just love it.
16:09I think that you have a real mind for it.
16:12And I love the way that you carry yourself with, I don't think it's ego or overconfidence
16:16like you said before.
16:17I just think it's like a real sense of, I know what I want to do and I'm going to
16:21execute

16:22And I loved watching you, you know, at tribal council, people would get up and then you'd
16:25be like, no, not now.
16:26Like I'm talking.

16:27Yeah, you just like, there was like a, I feel like you were so good at curating your
16:32space and the space of other people around you.
16:35And I don't think you can teach that.
16:37No.
16:37I think you either inherently have that or you don't.
16:40And you're someone who does.

16:45You found an idol this season and you didn't even need to smash a box open to get it.
16:51Oh my God.
16:52That idol, that, I looked so long and hard for idols.
16:56I was like, maybe they just don't exist in Survivor Redemption.
16:59It's just like old school, no idols.
17:01Like literally Faith and I were, Faith was looking at this log and it looked, it looked
17:06like two pieces of wood kissing each other.
17:08And I'm like, that's a, that's a pretty little log.
17:10You know, that's the way you get with logs after, you know, 70 days in the jungle.
17:14You look at something and you're like, oh, that's a nice little basket.
17:18Yeah.
17:19And so I go to Faith like, hey, did you, did you check this log?
17:22She's like, yeah, I already checked it.
17:24Nothing there.
17:24In that voice?
17:25In that voice.
17:26Yeah.
17:26She's a Cronulla Sharks fan.
17:27You know, it makes sense.
17:28Anyway, so I walked over to that log and I go, I'm just going to double check it.
17:32And it's literally right there.
17:34And I can't believe she didn't see it.
17:36And yeah, like I was, I was playing such a big game already.
17:40I needed an idol.
17:41So yeah, I was pretty happy to get it.
17:44Hello, he did a beauty idol.
17:47Oh my gosh.
17:49Oh my God, my hands.
17:51My hands are shaking.
17:53This is going to change my game.
17:56And I'd already found the one under the flag with Brooke, which was so much fun.
18:00And then now I had one of my own.
18:02So yeah, that was really cool.
18:03And I couldn't wait to tell Brooke.
18:04As soon as I got it, I was like, oh, I really probably might keep this to myself.
18:08And then the other voice in my head was like, just go and tell Brooke.
18:10Yeah.
18:11It'll be better for you.
18:12And lucky I did.
18:13Because I think she really told me that I was in a lot of trouble.
18:17It's actually so funny what you just said about how like you notice two like logs that
18:23are like this.
18:23And it's so true because I would find myself walking around and I have like, oh, no, this
18:28this is like a unique like little plant.
18:31Like I need to check that every day.
18:33And you have like your little favorite spot.
18:34Yes, your rituals.
18:35Yes.
18:35Where you're like, okay, now I'll go check that.
18:37And then I'm going to go where that hermit crab almost beat me the other day.
18:40You know, you have to stick your hand in there.
18:42And like any type of like unique place is just like, oh my God, today that's my to-do list
18:47is go check all the favorite spots.
18:50Absolutely.
18:50And I also used like previously my old diplomatic job.
18:54I did all this security training.
18:55And one thing that I learned there was to scan from right to left rather than left to right.
19:00Because your brain like deletes stuff that's irrelevant when you're looking from left to
19:04right.
19:04Because it's just picking up big things and it deletes little things.
19:07Got to remember that.
19:08Yeah, I know.
19:08Yeah, it's actually a little tip.
19:10So for the future of Survivor Plays out there, look right to left and you find more things.
19:14Mark, one of the most insane tribal councils I think we've ever witnessed was the one where
19:20Richard went home.
19:21And poor Richard, huge Survivor fan, but a truly insane tribal council.
19:28Give me the blow by blow from your perspective.
19:31So much fun.
19:32Like it was so much fun.
19:33I realized at the very end of the scramble that I was in trouble.
19:39Brooke gave me the signal.
19:40We had a little signal and I was like, oh goodness.
19:42So when I went into tribal council, I like didn't know what I was going to do.
19:46I had no idea what I was going to do.
19:48All I knew is that I trusted Brooke and I had an idol in, an actual idol in my breast
19:53pocket.
19:54And so it took me a while to figure out that one, Ben was leading the charge on me.
19:59And then that basically Richard and Loz and all of these other people were against me.
20:06The thing was, was that only Brooke knew about my real idol, but then Simon whips out this
20:12like huge fake idol, the biggest fake idol ever.
20:16And then he like shoves it in my pocket.
20:18So then I'm kind of like...
20:19So you didn't know that was going to happen?
20:20I had no idea that he was going to give me a fake idol.
20:23None at all.
20:24And then he just, he plonks it in my jacket pocket and I thought that they saw it.
20:28So then I'm like, okay, well, I have to like use this fake idol.
20:32And I'm like, literally like my brand.
20:34And then I tell Brooke, I've got a fake idol.
20:36And so then I like kind of start showing it.
20:51And Brooke's like, no, I've got the buff on my left hand.
20:54You need to use your real one.
20:55I know.
20:56Forget about the coral.
20:58Well, the coral in the end, I was like, look, I showed it.
21:01And then I was thinking, how can I make use of this?
21:03And Ben, I showed it to Ben and Ben goes, why did you show me that?
21:06If that's real, you would just play it and vote me off.
21:10And then I was thinking, okay, I'm going to use this to draw votes towards me.
21:14And then so like, I can actually make sure that I play the idol correctly for myself.
21:19That's so quick thinking to do it in that moment.
21:21Oh my, I can't believe that it actually came to me.
21:25And then, so then I tell Brooke, I'm like bloody flashing around.
21:28Like, hey everyone, look at this like stupid, ridiculous, fake idol.
21:31And then Brooke and I, and then we realized that Rich is just lying to me.
21:35And it was just annoying me.
21:37And I said to Keely, Rich is the weakest bloody ally in the history of Survivor.
21:41And I go to Caleb and I say the same thing.
21:44And then eventually I say to Brooke, Simon, I think was going to vote for me.
21:47I think he was like going to jump ship and, and vote for me.
21:50And so Brooke said to me, Mark, I think you need to tell Simon about the real idol.
21:55And so I like actually had a little bit of chain hanging down, like a, like Oliver Twist,
21:59like the dude from Oliver Twist, like the, and so I showed Simon, that's him.
22:05I showed Simon the real idol and he was like, oh my God, you're wild.
22:09And so he said, do you want to actually idol out Ben?
22:12I'm like, nah, I want to idol out Rich.
22:14And he, and he was like, can we do laws?
22:16I'm like, nah, Simon, I want to take Rich away from you.
22:18Keely was down because Keely's so much fun.
22:20And she was annoyed with Rich.
22:21And I told Caleb and then the best part of it for me was because I was so fired up
22:27at Rich.
22:27I was probably a little bit too fired up, but when all the votes were coming, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark,
22:32I turned to Rich and I go, mate, you voted for me, didn't you?
22:35And he goes, yeah, but you voted for me before.
22:38And I was like, and I just did again.
22:40And then it was like, Rich, Rich, Rich.
22:42And he was like, what?
22:45That is like Victorian melodrama.
22:47That's amazing.
22:48Such a good idea, though, to like think on the spot, show around the fake idol, get all the votes
22:55to make sure that you can send home who you want to send home.
22:58But isn't, isn't that a classic Simon thing though, right?
23:01Like we love Simon here.
23:03Love.
23:03We love Simon.
23:04Yeah.
23:04But it's just like a funny thing that like, he'll try to do something in the game, but it will
23:09get gazumped by someone else.
23:10Like he thought maybe the story of that tribal was going to be his fake idol.
23:14And then you whip out the real one.
23:15And then you're like, don't worry, Simon, like you keep that little thing.
23:18I got this.
23:19Don't worry about him.
23:21But, but, but good on him for doing that.
23:23What I was thinking about the fake idol was I was like, I could play it, but I actually want
23:27Simon to cop heat for giving me the fake idol.
23:30So that's why I gave it back to him.
23:31Because I'm like, I'm returning this to its rightful owner, Simon.
23:34And so that I wanted to obviously work with Simon, but I wanted to kind of taint his game with,
23:39with like the bands and the other people.
23:42So yeah, unfortunately for Simon, I was like, here you go.
23:45Have your coral back, buddy.
23:46And this is the real one in Lily's pocket.
23:47So yeah, it was, it was pretty fun.
23:49I couldn't have done it without Brooke though, because Brooke was like a really good sounding board and I always
23:54trusted her.
23:54So again, couldn't have done it without Brooke.
23:56Is that why Simon threw the coral in the end?
23:58Because you'd kind of just revealed that it was.
24:00I'd outed him.
24:01You tried to do something nice for someone in this game.
24:03Throw it in your face.
24:06So at this point, you were fully locked in with the returnees in Keeley.
24:10If you could draw up your ideal final, who did you actually want to go to the end with?
24:17Yeah.
24:18And you can't lie.
24:19Good question.
24:20No, no, no.

25:39anyone would actually, anyone would actually take me to the final tribal council.
