00:12It's moving!
00:16Water's getting wider and wider.
00:19Ah!
00:21Ah!
00:24The water's coming up, son.
00:26Yeah, it's coming up quick.
00:28Looks like Niagara Falls, dude.
00:32I can't hold it.
00:38All right, you're done.
00:40Up it out.
00:45That was a hard dive.
00:48Good job, James.
00:49If we don't get any gold in this hole,
00:51we're gonna be in real, real, real, real trouble.
00:55I wonder if there's anything in the box.
00:57Probably not, but...
01:01Holy .
01:04Hey!
01:05You got gold, buddy!
01:07Woo-hoo!
01:09No way!
01:11That's gold!
01:12Breaking nuggets!
01:14Oh, my God.
01:16Awesome.
01:17Oh, my God.
01:19If we keep falling the wall down,
01:21it's just gonna pile up the big fistfuls and handful of nuggets.
01:26Just nuggets, nuggets, nuggets!
01:29That's amazing!
01:32That's gold!
01:32We know there's gold here.
01:33It's everywhere.
01:35We just gotta dig it up.
01:37Wow.
01:37That just gave me gold fever up the ass.
01:43It's back to the class of whitewater.
01:45This water's trying to stop us.
01:47Every piece of my equipment is trying to stop us.
01:50Oh, .
01:50Man, am I this high?
01:52Go!
01:56I'm kinda stuck between irreparable damage to my hand
02:00or miss out on a season.
02:02It's an easy choice to me.
02:06I'll give up a finger for that.
02:11I'm on the pen rock wall, man, and it's just diving down, dude.
02:14I'd like to hear that.
02:16Gold on my first dive!
02:18We're gonna be coming out with hundreds of thousands of dollars,
02:21maybe millions.
02:42Let that dry out a little bit, and our umbilical will be nice and clean.
02:47Nearly a month into the gold diving season,
02:50Dustin Hurt is MIA, and old work has ground to a halt.
02:56If I'm gonna take some time off to go get his hand checked out, man,
02:58it must be pretty bad.
02:59The question is, is how long will we be down the guy?
03:01I don't know.
03:02You know, is it just for a couple days?
03:03Is it a week?
03:04Or is this kind of deal gonna mess up the whole season, you know?
03:07This is a dangerous job.
03:08Any of us could get hurt at any time.
03:12It is beautiful up here.
03:15In this do-or-die season,
03:17Dustin staked his future on the most extreme ground yet.
03:23There are a bunch of waterfalls all the way up here that could have piles and piles and piles of
03:30gold.
03:30This has to be the year.
03:32I mean, another season not hitting a jackpot?
03:34I'm gonna have to think seriously.
03:36What do I do with these claims?
03:39Out of money.
03:40If Dustin can't uncover Nugget Creek's proven riches,
03:44he'll have to sell his claims to pay his debts.
03:49It's not melting any time soon.
03:51If we don't get a bunch of gold, I could lose a claim.
03:54Desperate for gold.
03:57Waiting for 80 feet of snow to melt isn't an option.
04:01So Dustin shifted focus to prime ground down Creek to jumpstart his season.
04:08I've been looking at this spot.
04:09Think it'll be less dangerous.
04:11You can call it the wall.
04:12All right.
04:17Hey, guys.
04:19I found some gold over there.
04:20There's gold.
04:21We just gotta get to the bottom of it, man.
04:23To double their chances of finding gold,
04:27Wes and Paul made the deuce loose,
04:29using parts from three dredges.
04:33Oh, f***ing close.
04:35It better live up to its name because
04:37I got a lot of riding on this right now.
04:41God, f***.
04:43But before they could run it, Dustin suffered an injury
04:46that could cost him his season.
04:49One of my tendons has slipped over on one of my knuckles
04:51and it hurts like hell.
04:56I've never ever, all these years working with him,
04:58ever seen him want to go to a doctor.
05:01So that must be pretty bad.
05:02Hopefully the doctor get him a clean bill of health.
05:04What we need to do is get as much work done as possible
05:07so when he comes back he'll be happy with what we've got going.
05:09For sure, yeah, man. We know what to do.
05:11Oh, yeah, man.
05:11All right, man. Let's go to it.
05:24The pain when I bend my finger is so agonizing that it feels like I'm doing real damage.
05:3030 miles from Nugget Creek, Dustin's in desperate need of medical attention.
05:37At about 3 o'clock in the morning I must have just gripped into a fist
05:41because I jumped up and I almost ran out of my little cabin
05:45because I felt like I was being attacked.
05:47That's how much it hurt from a deep sleep to me on my feet trying to run out of my
05:52cabin
05:52because I thought something was trying to kill me.
05:54That's how bad this thing hurts.
05:58Hopefully with any luck they're just going to tell me to rest it.
06:01I'll patch it up and we'll keep going.
06:05As claim owner, if Dustin needs surgery,
06:08he'll be forced to shut down his entire operation and end his Nugget Creek dream.
06:20Look at that water.
06:22Yeah, it looks good.
06:23That's a day to dive.
06:27I have a good feeling about today.
06:29I can smell the gold.
06:31Back at Nugget Creek, it's the moment of truth for the new double dredge.
06:36Two divers on that frickin' deuce loose.
06:39That's going to be mountains of gold.
06:41I want to see gold in two boxes at one time.
06:49Holy .
06:51Holy frickin' moly.
06:54That dropped.
06:56It's a nightmare.
06:58The 2,500 pound dredge has dropped dangerously close to the water.
07:04Another inch and the brutal current would tear it apart.
07:09Looks like our dredge sunk overnight where it is right now.
07:13If we had a massive rain and we got flooded, that dredge is gone.
07:18Two years ago.
07:19What the hell?
07:21The water is coming up.
07:23Catastrophic floods wiped out their sight and their dredge.
07:28The water took everything today.
07:30This is, uh, coobar.
07:34We're just barely off the water.
07:36I don't know if the water's up a little bit more or what.
07:38Or if the dredge came down, huh?
07:40Which of the two?
07:41Need to check the skyline, anchors.
07:43I'll go take a look.
07:51I don't know.
07:54You have to go up there, dude.
07:55Let's see.
07:59Be careful, man.
08:06Oh, .
08:09Yikes!
08:10Is that .
08:11Ah, .
08:14That's ugly, dude.
08:15Is it all up?
08:16That's ugly.
08:17Every anchor is being pulled out.
08:19Oh, .
08:20That's not good.
08:21Oh, my gosh.
08:25Oh, dude.
08:27That's not good.
08:28Those cracks are made by every anchor that's in there.
08:32That's ready to rip out.
08:33Oh, .
08:34This year, this skyline is to keep that deuce loose,
08:39the biggest dredge in the world, up in the air safe.
08:43The only thing we can do is just tie it back up,
08:46go really, really big through three-quarter-inch bolts
08:48and all that with anchors.
08:49Yep.
08:50And just hope the rock stays together.
08:53That's all we could do.
08:55The 550-foot skyline was secured by a set of primary anchor bolts.
09:02But the weight of the 2,500-pound dredge has overloaded the rocks, causing them to fracture.
09:13Carlos and James' plan, find solid rock and install another set of four anchors to act as a backup.
09:22I found a new spot.
09:24I mean, holy smokes, this is solid.
09:30And it's going to be holding like this.
09:32All four anchor bolts, straight at that line.
09:36Bam!
09:54So I ended up having to go to the doctor to find out what's wrong with me.
09:58It's not good news.
10:01I thought, man, I got another broken finger.
10:04No big deal.
10:05But then, come to find out, I ruptured a tendon pulley.
10:11I mean, I can back out and go get surgery, and my hand will be great, and my season would
10:18be destroyed.
10:20Absolutely annihilated.
10:21So I would have to give up on basically gold mining for the year if I go get my hand
10:27fixed.
10:28The other choice is to just keep going.
10:32I'm kind of stuck between irreparable damage to my hand or miss out on a season.
10:48It's an easy choice to me.
10:52I'll give up a finger for that.
10:59That's working.
11:00Good job, man.
11:02If the top anchor bolts blow out, these four will be the backup.
11:06I feel better about that.
11:08That looks good.
11:10Even with the backups in place, there's still a deadly threat from above if the primary anchor bolts break loose.
11:19If we break the skyline with this thing, then we can't pull boulders.
11:22We still can't pull the dredge up.
11:24So, I mean, we're just going to shoot ourself in the foot if we keep putting this thing to the
11:28max.
11:29I think we need to figure out a plan B or something.
11:31I'd almost say it'd be safer to pull the dredge up here every day and tie it off.
11:35I would, too.
11:35We could build a nice little ramp.
11:37What's up, guys?
11:38Yo.
11:38Yo.
11:39How's your hand?
11:40I just wanted to let y'all know what's happened.
11:42I'm here.
11:43I'm back.
11:43That looks bionic.
11:45I made it myself.
11:46That's how the doctors want you to do is put a splint.
11:48They want me to go get surgery.
11:50I'm not going to do it.
11:52It's a six-month recovery, so I made the decision.
11:56I'm going to come out here and work.
11:57I'm just going to be on light duty.
11:59I won't be diving with you.
12:02If there's a broken bone, wrap it up.
12:05By the end of the season, you'll be diving again, but this one's a bigger injury.
12:09That just won't allow me to dive this year at all, and I'm sorry.
12:14That just means one of us is going to have to dive every day,
12:18and maybe we can figure out some kind of rotation.
12:20We did it before.
12:21Two days on, one day off.
12:23Thank you, guys.
12:24Appreciate that.
12:25Being that Dustin's got a busted hand right now, we've got to do a rotation,
12:28so everybody's going to dive two days in a row, get a day off, two days in a row.
12:33I'm sure it's going to get tiring.
12:35We just got to pace ourselves.
12:36Welcome to the human condition, man.
12:38Yeah, I know.
12:39You can check out those anchors right quick.
12:40Yeah.
12:41Take a look.
12:46You can see that one anchor bolt came completely out.
12:48It's just hanging.
12:49I don't think we can pick that dredge up anymore with that system.
12:52We're going to lose it.
12:53We've got our backup plan for getting the dredge up on land.
12:56You can do that every day?
12:57Until we can get that fixed, we have no choice.
12:59Here's the equation.
13:01Time to fix this thing, to go reset the anchors.
13:04What are we going to spend?
13:05Two days?
13:06I'd probably say a couple days.
13:07At least two days, right?
13:08Yeah.
13:09In three weeks, we'll be done with this area.
13:11My brain tells me, just tighten that sucker up and it's going to keep crumbling.
13:15And just tighten the hell out of it until that whole mound is gone.
13:19That's not going to allow that to slip over the edge.
13:22That could only take less than a day of work, opposed to a couple days to do it the right
13:28way.
13:28That's going to be risky.
13:30We can't afford to lose the skyline.
13:33My plan is to keep tightening the damn skyline up.
13:36Then the rock breaks, tighten it up again.
13:38Just keep tightening the hell out of it.
13:40Break it.
13:41Dustin's radical break-it-to-fix-it plan?
13:45Crank the skyline so tight that the primary anchors blow out the unstable rock
13:54and transfer the load to James' secure backup anchor bolts, allowing them to re-tension
14:02and raise the dredge clear of the water.
14:06Just take your time, bro.
14:08For real.
14:08Just clicky, clicky, click.
14:14Right now, intentionally, we're going to break some stuff.
14:17We want to see the mountains come down.
14:28I think that's it.
14:30Copy that.
14:31Hey, should I go check those other anchors?
14:36Not a bad idea.
14:38It feels like it might be pulling pretty hard.
14:40James, tighten it up.
14:42I'm talking about banjo tight.
14:43I mean, you can't get any tighter than this.
14:45It's still holding.
14:47We've got the cables so tight that I'm going to put something heavy on it
14:51and see what I can break.
14:52The primary anchor bolts won't come out.
14:55So Dustin resorts to extreme measures.
14:59All right, guys.
15:00Let's find us a rock.
15:01I need a rock to pull on.
15:03What about that one you're standing on right now?
15:05Would that move?
15:06Who cares if it moves?
15:07Put an anchor in it.
15:08Pull it.
15:09That's right.
15:10You want to put a little bolt in it?
15:12Let's do it.
15:13it.
15:20Bingo.
15:23Break it!
15:32That cable is not even flexing.
15:34That cable is tight.
15:36Whoo!
15:37We're putting a pretty good pull in it right now.
15:39Cable's not really even dipping.
15:41We can't get the rock to move yet.
15:43I'll just go wiggle it upstream a little bit and see if that'll grab it.
15:47The winches generate 60,000 pounds of pulling force.
15:52If the skyline snaps, it could slice a miner like a hot knife through butter.
16:03Holy .
16:17Look out!
16:17Get out of the way!
16:32Look out!
16:34Get out of the way!
16:34That cable is .
16:35That cable is tight.
16:36Woo!
16:48It just blew out.
16:50I just saw all the rocks come down.
16:52I saw that.
16:53At the wall dive site, Dustin's attempting to remove the failing primary anchor bolts on
16:59the skyline.
17:01All right, Carlos, what's the situation up there, buddy?
17:05Oh, my God!
17:07For his plan to work, he needs the cable to stay firmly on the ridge.
17:13It blew out the face of it.
17:15There was no anchors.
17:17No anchors attached!
17:19Nothing's gonna flip, shift, or jump except for the rocks.
17:22It looks that way, man.
17:23Looks like it's pretty solid right now.
17:24It buried itself into the dirt.
17:27The backups look beautiful.
17:28Yes!
17:29Oh, my God!
17:30Yes!
17:31That's kind of what I was hoping on right there.
17:34The skyline is now anchored with James' rock-solid bolts and resting on the ridge strong enough
17:41and high enough to lift the 2,500-pound dredge clear of the raging creek.
17:48It's not our original anchors, but I don't see any difference.
17:51No, not if it's solid.
17:53Yeah.
17:53My plan actually worked out to fix it by breaking it.
17:56I know that sounds weird, but it worked.
17:59One single good day of diving would set this all right.
18:03It's got me a little bummed because I don't have any gold in my hand yet.
18:07I'm ready.
18:09Let's do this.
18:20Today, I want the dredge running perfect.
18:23Everything has to be on track now.
18:25I busted my hand, and I'm sorry I'm letting y'all down with this, but it is what it is.
18:29We're going to have to keep going.
18:30I've got no choices no matter here.
18:32I'm counting on the two-diver thing to catch us up.
18:34I think two divers are going to make it exponentially more than ever.
18:38I'm banking on that, by the way.
18:39It's going to.
18:40It's going to make all the difference.
18:41All right.
18:42Well, let's get out there.
18:45I need something to work out.
18:46We need a win here.
18:48I expect to see gold on day one.
18:50We have to work during the winter as hard as we can to fund our life.
18:56Why do it?
18:57If it's not paying for itself in a big way, I need to know if there's any gold down there.
19:10Look how high the dredge is.
19:12Yep.
19:12Skyline better than it's ever been.
19:14Best it's looked.
19:15Yeah.
19:20A couple hose clamps to go on.
19:22Put the foot valve on.
19:24I think we'll be ready to fire this thing up.
19:26Paul and Wes spent two weeks building the Deuce Sluice.
19:30The season rides on its maiden voyage.
19:35This is a new dredge built with a bunch of old parts.
19:38I mean, getting two divers in at the same time is something that we've never really been able to do.
19:43Hopefully it works like I planned it.
19:46I'm getting frustrated.
19:47We need some damn gold to show our labor.
19:51I need this to start happening because we're just working.
19:56There's no money coming in, but there's a lot of money going out.
19:59Ready to give it a try?
20:00Yep.
20:10Are you kidding?
20:13Wait a minute.
20:19Okay.
20:26It's running.
20:27Whoo!
20:31Look at that.
20:34This part is great.
20:35I love it.
20:37Two sluices running.
20:38You wouldn't believe it.
20:40Can you imagine, at the end of the day, shutting those babies off and seeing both sluices chalked
20:47of gold?
20:50All right.
20:51I'm gonna go get ready.
20:52I'll see you in a minute.
20:54This is a big moment, man.
20:58Ah, this should be a fun dive today.
20:59First dive of the year.
21:01First time having two divers.
21:03Now it's time to bear down, get going, and just bust ass.
21:08We need to get to work.
21:10You know, a lot of people back home is counting on this.
21:14You know, just let the team, man, there's people back home that's counting on this as well.
21:17So, gotta do it.
21:19Addie gots to do it.
21:24Carlos and Paul are about to get in the water.
21:26They're getting geared up.
21:27It's go time.
21:29You remember how to do this?
21:31Got me?
21:31Yeah, we got you.
21:32How's your air?
21:34Air was good, dude.
21:35All right, man.
21:36Feel like we're ready to rock and roll?
21:39All right, here we go.
21:41All right.
21:43Moment of truth.
21:44All right, guys.
21:45Let's make a living.
21:49Diver in the water.
21:52All right?
21:53Oh, yeah.
21:53Good morning, water.
21:57Two divers in.
22:00Here it is.
22:02Two divers.
22:04Two.
22:05Two divers.
22:07Two divers.
22:08Finally.
22:09We have two divers, everyone.
22:11Two divers.
22:12Come on.
22:13The race is on.
22:14Who can take the fastest?
22:15After nearly a month of work, the whitewater gold diving season has officially begun.
22:22And with two divers in the water, they have doubled their chances of a massive payday.
22:29Come on.
22:30River's left, man.
22:32Come on, river right.
22:33All right, man.
22:35That's the first time I've ever seen us do salutes.
22:38One machine that runs two divers.
22:41Hopefully this pays off.
22:43Finally, we are in the water.
22:46Now let's see what they can do.
22:49This new salutes, I think, is going to do the trick.
22:51We can get two guys in the water, you know, and get twice the dredging done in one day that
22:56we normally do.
22:57That means at least twice as much gold this year.
23:07Hey, fellas.
23:08How's it looking down there?
23:10Going good, man.
23:12He's already digging pretty good.
23:14We'll see what he's got.
23:16Dustin's convinced the wall dive site is the perfect nugget trap.
23:21When the gold travels down creek, it hits the vertical rock face and drops to the deepest
23:27point.
23:28If they can dig deep enough, they should find a bedrock bonanza.
23:36The water's pretty fast right here.
23:39It's only coming up.
23:40It's raining upstream right now.
23:54Did the water turn dirty?
23:56Yeah, it got dirty, didn't it?
23:58Holy crap.
24:00This water's got hot!
24:04Look out!
24:05Come get out of the water.
24:19Holy crap, this one's got me hot.
24:25Scouts, I'm trying to work.
24:34Drop them tight.
24:36All right, yep.
24:38Did I call that or what?
24:39Son of a god, man.
24:42At Nugget Creek, after just two hours,
24:46the Deuce Sluice's debut run hits a wall.
24:50The foot valve is completely jammed with sticks right now.
24:53Give me one minute.
24:56At least the boil over valves are working.
24:58It blows out when it gets too hot.
25:00That's how they were designed.
25:02Debris washed in from up creek, clogged the filter basket on the water intakes, restricting
25:10the flow, superheats the hot water supply into deadly steam.
25:17Fortunately, the boil over valves opened and released the steam before it could get to
25:26the divers.
25:30Oh, there it goes.
25:32Okay, that's good.
25:35Carlos, are you good to go?
25:36I'm good to go.
25:41Hey, James, can you tell me how hot this water is?
25:45It's warm.
25:46It feels pretty good.
25:48Paul, how you doing?
25:50Right now, it's all feels good.
25:55About time, we're back in the water.
25:58We need to get down to gold.
26:01Gold gods are teasing us right now.
26:03To keep his Nugget Creek dream alive past this season, Dustin needs the Deuce Sluice to
26:10work as promised.
26:16I'm on the bedrock wall, man, and it's just diving down, dude.
26:20Is it going straight down?
26:22Yep.
26:24It's getting down.
26:25It's getting deep.
26:26Yep.
26:27It's about like three feet, four feet.
26:30I'd like to hear that.
26:31So it looks like the Deuce Sluice is going to turn out to be a pretty good dredge.
26:35It's been a lot of work, but we're going to get caught up to where we should be and surpass
26:39where we need to be, so this year is going to turn out to be good.
26:47All right, guys.
26:48You're almost on four hours right now.
26:56Who was that?
26:58It's the third milky.
26:59Yo, hey, if this goes chocolate milk, we're going to stop you.
27:04I don't want your machines to stop up.
27:06If your foot mouth stops up, the water stops up.
27:09If the water stops up, you steam up.
27:11Gotcha.
27:12Copy that.
27:14The sharp right angle at the wall dive site makes it an excellent nugget trap, but when
27:20it rains in the mountains above, it's slammed by the full force of the raging creek.
27:33You guys doing all right?
27:35No!
27:42I don't think this is going to pass me.
27:52It must turn up or what?
27:53Yeah, it turned up a lot.
27:57All right, guys.
27:58I'm going to call it.
27:59I'm going to call it.
28:00I'm going to call it.
28:01I'm going to call it.
28:01I'm going to call it.
28:01I'm calling it.
28:02Let's go dive her up.
28:03Let's go dive her up.
28:05We're about to get so much to bring in this machine that it's going to mess with the
28:08hot water.
28:09I can't take that chance right now.
28:12That's dirty, dude.
28:13Damn it.
28:16Holy crap, dude.
28:18White water sucks.
28:19I couldn't see anything.
28:21Isn't it?
28:22Nah.
28:23Nothing but pyrite.
28:25That's disappointing.
28:26We got a lot to discuss about today.
28:28We got a few bugs we got to work out.
28:30Yeah, yeah.
28:30It's our first day.
28:31But we still got some material moved.
28:32Yeah.
28:33Yeah.
28:33Got some holes, Doug.
28:35Nice diving, man.
28:36I didn't dig through other, but yeah, man, there was a bunch of pyrite in the box.
28:40But at least if you have pyrite there, there's going to be gold around it.
28:43It was a successful day in that we got both divers down.
28:48There's a few things.
28:49The foot valves keep getting stuffed with sticks.
28:52As soon as you're having a problem with water, check your foot valve because that's probably
28:56what it is.
28:57Right?
28:57Yep.
28:58All right.
28:58We'll do better.
29:00Somehow, we always do.
29:01It sucks that I can't do my job.
29:03I can't dive again.
29:05So, are you okay to go back in tomorrow?
29:07Yeah, sure.
29:07I can go back to it tomorrow.
29:08We'll do better tomorrow.
29:09Good job today, though.
29:12Today was frustrating.
29:13White water, man.
29:14White water won't give you an inch of mercy, man.
29:17It does not care if you're miserable.
29:21I'm not going to sleep very well tonight.
29:22I'm going to be on my inner chalkboard in my brain trying to figure out how to fix all these
29:41issues.
29:42Let's do this.
29:46Check it out.
29:47Look at all the rocks coming down.
29:49Holy crap.
29:51It's moving today.
29:52That's some harsh water.
29:54At the wall dive site, a disappointing maiden voyage for the Dew Sluice piles on the pressure
30:01for Dustin's make-or-break season.
30:07All right.
30:07James and Carlos, if you're going in today, everybody be safe today, all right?
30:11With the water being up this high right off the bat, what's it going to be this afternoon?
30:14It's going to be awful.
30:15All right.
30:16Let's go get the dredge in the water.
30:17Dive as long as we can.
30:19We need to see some gold, y'all.
30:21On the last dive, Carlos discovered the bedrock wall dropped straight down into what
30:26could be a deep nugget catch.
30:30I've been waiting to dredge against the wall.
30:32I want to follow it down.
30:34I want to get gold.
30:35The water's up.
30:36It's going to be hard water to sustain.
30:39And I'm putting a lot of weight on today because it's back to classic whitewater.
30:49Now I'm starting to get excited.
30:51We got the dredge in the water real easy.
30:53It's like we're getting better at this or something.
31:01There she goes.
31:04There it goes.
31:05There it goes.
31:06I'm filling up.
31:06Stop that bitch.
31:08Hold on.
31:09Stop.
31:10A little bit.
31:12Hold on.
31:13It's going to work.
31:14It's going to work.
31:14Hold on.
31:15Hold on.
31:15It's going to work.
31:17We've got a big old air bubble in here still.
31:19It's all right.
31:20Yep.
31:20OK.
31:22Holy .
31:23What the was that?
31:24You all right?
31:25It blew the foot valve off.
31:28Grab the foot valve.
31:30That's long gone.
31:31The whole problem is this water.
31:33We need it dammed off like we used to, so we can actually dredge in this .
31:37The raging whitewater has ripped one of the dredge's intake valves clean off.
31:44It just snapped out like it was nothing.
31:46Wow.
31:48Without a replacement foot valve on site, the Deuce Sluice can only operate with one diver.
31:55Starting to lose my cool, Carlos.
31:58Already sick of this .
32:00Wish I'd have never let this happen, this double dredge .
32:05I mean, that dredge is starting to part ways right now.
32:09I hate that dredge.
32:11The stress levels are reaching a dangerous level for everyone else here.
32:16Just need a break.
32:18Stop wasting my money.
32:20This is turning into a waste of cash if we just keep messing with little parts.
32:26It's not even big picture stuff.
32:28It's like a foot valve.
32:30We've all worked too hard for this not to work.
32:33I need a successful season, which I haven't really had yet.
32:36We had some big nuggets, but we haven't had any real, real success.
32:40Today, I need this.
32:43All I'm asking is find some gold, if that's so hard to ask.
32:46It's sitting here.
32:48Are we just too incompetent to get it out of the ground?
32:50It's right there.
32:54You got one hat rocking.
32:56One of those could be enough to need a diver.
32:58It's got me a one-diver day today.
33:00She wants me to dive.
33:02You sure?
33:03I'll do it.
33:04Why don't you get dressed up, man?
33:05Yep.
33:05Let's get a suit.
33:06Suit up!
33:08Their chances of finding gold cut in half.
33:12Dustin's faith in the new dredge is fading fast.
33:18We need a high.
33:20We're tired of lows.
33:23I sure hope, uh, this all pays off after all the chaos.
33:30This is not a hobby.
33:31Gold, it's not just some shiny thing you just put around your frickin' neck and put it in your teeth,
33:37man.
33:38It's what put food on the table.
33:39If we come up zero today, you know what that means?
33:42You're falling behind your bills, bro.
33:44Then you start wondering, what the heck am I doing here, man?
33:48I put all this frickin' work and effort into all this.
33:52And what are you getting out of it, you know?
33:58Can you hear me?
33:59Yes, sir.
34:00I need a good, solid day of dredging after all this nonsense.
34:05Let's get it right.
34:06All right.
34:07Thoughts to gold down there?
34:08I'd love to, man.
34:10Good luck, James.
34:11Yeah.
34:12Have a great day.
34:16Good doggy.
34:18That's definitely whitewater fillers.
34:21James' mission?
34:23Follow the bedrock wall, dredging out material to get down to its deepest point.
34:32I'm diggin'.
34:34I'm diggin'.
34:35I'm diggin'.
34:40We're divin'!
34:41We are divin'!
34:43We are divin'!
34:44It kinda comes down, and then it goes back in.
34:49It comes down and goes back in, so the wall's doing this.
34:52I love hearing that.
34:55What's the material looking like?
34:58It's, uh, overburdened so far.
35:03The material's starting to get a little tougher as I go.
35:09But I'm diggin' quick.
35:11Be careful.
35:12That water's shovin' you back.
35:17I've got rocks comin' at me right now.
35:25What starts to happen is these rocks start rolling.
35:29It's a hell of a fight.
35:30It's almost fillin' in as fast as he's diggin' it.
35:34For the next two hours...
35:36The water's getting wider and wider.
35:39The water's comin' up, son.
35:41Yeah, it's comin' up quick.
35:43James fights the fierce current...
35:47...as he dredges down towards bedrock gold.
35:55It's movin'!
35:57We've got about a four-foot-ish hole right now.
36:01We're trying to find out which way the bedrock's going.
36:04What's the material look like?
36:06Stuff like that.
36:08Pretty important dive.
36:10Tough size of today, you guys.
36:20You gotcha?
36:26Pull him up!
36:27I can't hold him.
36:36This one spot, the wall, it's frickin' really scary.
36:41I mean, this is Major's booby trap.
36:43And it can go at any frickin' time.
36:45You gotta remember, right here where we're diving at,
36:49that's the focal point of all that water coming down hard as hell.
36:53That's it. We're in the frickin' danger zone.
37:11It's a tough dive in today, you guys.
37:15Man, you're moving some material. That's good.
37:17I love it.
37:18On his first dive of the season,
37:21James is struggling against the raging white water.
37:25Ah!
37:30I got you?
37:33I can't hold it.
37:40As soon as I get the current, it takes me away.
37:44All right, you're done. Pump it out.
37:48The water's coming back up again.
37:50I don't feel comfortable leaving him in there.
37:53That was a hard dive. Not gonna lie.
37:57Good job, James.
37:57Ah!
38:00I just need a break.
38:01I just need you to calm down for a day or two.
38:04Is there so much to ask?
38:06Just chill out for a day, water?
38:12I wonder if there's anything in the box.
38:14Probably not.
38:17There is so much material in here.
38:21A lot of pyrite.
38:25Holy .
38:26Hey.
38:28No way.
38:29No way.
38:31You got gold, buddy.
38:32Yeah!
38:34No way!
38:36That's not even small.
38:38That's not even small, man.
38:40Oh, my God.
38:41Look at that.
38:43Holy .
38:44That's gold!
38:45Frickin' nugget!
38:46Oh, my God.
38:48Awesome.
38:49Wow.
38:50That just gave me gold fever up the ass.
38:52That is spectacular, dude.
38:55It's gold down there, so...
38:58Thank you for proving that, because now we know we're in the right spot.
39:02Good job, man.
39:03This is what we needed, because we started getting down a little bit with all the issues we've had.
39:07I mean, the dish loose is badass, but getting it here, getting it set up, getting in the water to
39:12start dredging, it doesn't get any better than that.
39:15Gold on my first dive.
39:18Gold on my first dive, dude.
39:20Right here at the wall proves that if we keep falling the wall down, it's just gonna pile up into
39:26big fistfuls and handfuls of nuggets.
39:29Just nuggets, nuggets, nuggets!
39:31This is what we're here for.
39:33That's not a small piece of gold.
39:35That is a large piece of gold right there.
39:37All the work that we put into this, that makes it all worthwhile.
39:42It's a golden day.
39:43Good job, James.
39:46You could be tired tonight, buddy.
39:47Oh, man.
39:48That was one of the hardest dives I've done in a while.
39:51This year, we're gonna get more gold than we've got from last season.
39:56Oh, yeah.
39:56That's what I think.
39:57This is gonna be the most gold we've ever seen in our life.
39:59Well, good job, everybody.
40:01Just keep trudging, all right?
40:02This is the start to our season, boys.
40:05Right here today is the start to our season.
40:07Good job, man.
40:08Awesome, James.
40:09Way to go, man.
40:10Yeah.
40:12We're gonna be coming out with jars full of nuggets.
40:14Just handfuls, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
40:18Maybe millions by the time we clean all this out.
40:23Whoo, what a dangerous job.
40:25But I love it.
40:28We dredged.
40:29We found gold.
40:30That's amazing.
40:32We did what we came to do.
40:35It's a great start.
40:36We know there's gold here.
40:38It's everywhere.
40:39We just gotta dig it up.
40:46On the next Gold Rush, Whitewater.
40:50What did Robbie today?
40:55I'm standing on the hard pack.
40:56And the bedrock's somewhere underneath.
40:59Get close.
41:01We're rocking down, man.
41:03This whole area's frickin' good, dude.
41:05It's loaded, bro.
41:07Whoo!
41:08We're gonna have tons and tons of gold.
41:12Y'all ready?
41:13Hell yeah.
41:16God dang it.
41:17We have no power.
41:19It's spitting and sputtering, backfiring.
41:21Mayday!
41:21Mayday!
41:22Mayday!
41:22Whoa!
41:24Come on!
41:25Oh, .
