00:02:35it's deceiving how uh how quick this current really is
00:02:44cut off by the yukon river
00:02:48to the west of the legendary gold town of dawson city in a remote corner of the yukon lies the
00:02:55fraught in mind
00:03:00in 2024 the yukon territory produced over 200 million dollars worth of gold
00:03:07with dawson city's gold revenue rising by 34
00:03:19morgan here sounds like he never takes a day off he wants to make a good living for his family
00:03:24being able to make a good living mining uh you know is a possibility but it takes a lot to
00:03:29do it
00:03:29you know there's been a lot of people that have come out here to to make a fortune but have
00:03:33lost
00:03:33their shirts yep exactly
00:03:40i think we need to go down that road looks a little sketchy
00:03:44pop in the side by side and go down there huh yeah i think so let's do that
00:03:52oh
00:04:01the froughton mine sits in the valley bottom at the end of five miles of remote road
00:04:19That must be them right there.
00:04:23How are we doing?
00:04:25Good.
00:04:25Good.
00:04:26How are you guys?
00:04:26How's it going, guys?
00:04:27Pretty good.
00:04:28Juan, Dave, Juan, Morgan.
00:04:30Chrissy.
00:04:30Chrissy, Freddie.
00:04:31Nice to meet you.
00:04:31Nice to meet you, Morgan.
00:04:32Nice to meet you, Juan.
00:04:33Nice to meet you as well.
00:04:35Well, welcome.
00:04:36We're so excited to have you guys here.
00:04:38The road's not that great.
00:04:41We got to the top of the hill, looked at the road.
00:04:42I'm like, yeah, we better not.
00:04:44Yeah.
00:04:44Well, it's a good choice because we had so much rain yesterday.
00:04:47Beautiful spot down here.
00:04:48Yeah, it is.
00:04:48It's beautiful.
00:04:49How many acres do you have?
00:04:50I staked 288 claims.
00:04:53It's about 6,000 acres.
00:04:55We're about two kilometers down to the mouth of the creek
00:04:57and goes into the Yukon River,
00:04:59and then it's almost 20 kilometers upstream.
00:05:02Oh, wow.
00:05:03Yeah.
00:05:04What did you do for gold last year?
00:05:07So we were hoping for 200 last year.
00:05:09We got 150.
00:05:11We didn't get as much as we wanted.
00:05:13We got a lot of bills, and we're trying to grow the business.
00:05:17We're trying to buy new equipment.
00:05:18He started with a gold pen walking through the bush.
00:05:21Really?
00:05:21Yeah.
00:05:22Yeah.
00:05:24There's so much to love about gold mining for me.
00:05:27Being outside, exploring in the place I grew up.
00:05:31I was born here, and gold's just in the air.
00:05:35At 25, I started a job with a prospector.
00:05:39It turned him into a multimillionaire,
00:05:43maybe $100 million or more.
00:05:45I couldn't believe how wealthy he'd become,
00:05:48and it was just a motivation for me to try it for myself.
00:05:5341-year-old Morgan set up his full-time mining operation
00:05:57six years ago.
00:05:59So now here I am with a gold mine.
00:06:02Gold's super hot right now.
00:06:04The price is high.
00:06:06I want to find millions of dollars of gold in the ground
00:06:09because it's going to help me grow my family.
00:06:14I want to contribute to my country's wealth,
00:06:17and I want to build a mining empire.
00:06:19That's my dream.
00:06:20That's why I want to be rich so I can continue that.
00:06:23What do you do here?
00:06:24You mine with them?
00:06:25I don't mine with them.
00:06:27I'm at home with three little kids that are growing like weeds,
00:06:30and we also homeschool the kids.
00:06:32And I just do a little bit of the bookkeeping for the business.
00:06:36Three full-time jobs, really, what you got going on.
00:06:38Yeah, three full-time jobs.
00:06:40So over the last six years, how much have you produced out of here?
00:06:42I've gotten 600 ounces.
00:06:46It's all you in here?
00:06:47I've got a couple employees, but I've still got to show up every day,
00:06:50direct everybody what to do, trying to make a living at it full-time.
00:06:55What's your goal for this year?
00:06:56It's 200 ounces.
00:06:57Again, okay.
00:06:58Yeah.
00:06:58How close are you to it now?
00:06:59We're at 40 ounces so far.
00:07:02We're averaging eight to ten hours on a sluice day,
00:07:05but we spent a good chunk of the first part of the season fixing things, maintaining.
00:07:10But, you know, things are breaking down,
00:07:13and I don't have expertise in fabricating, welding,
00:07:17and so that's a roadblock for me.
00:07:19Do you have any gold that you're with you?
00:07:21Yeah, actually, I brought some gold.
00:07:24So that's an ounce of the gold we get.
00:07:28Yeah, this gold hasn't traveled along, does it want?
00:07:30But that's still pretty jagged, yeah.
00:07:32Closer to the source.
00:07:34So how much do you have invested in this mine, Morgan?
00:07:37I've put over a million dollars into this.
00:07:40I am investing the gold in this business to this point.
00:07:44The gold's paying for the excavators and the trauma,
00:07:46the payments to the employees, the fuel.
00:07:49Do you have a ton of ground left in your cut
00:07:51where you're getting that gold right now?
00:07:53This cut's coming to an end, and I've got to find a new spot.
00:07:56I'm so tied to the mine, I can't get out there and do the exploration.
00:08:01Really?
00:08:01We usually kind of stand back, just watch what you do and how you do it.
00:08:06Yeah, and then, you know, we'll go from there.
00:08:09Before we go, the kids would really love to meet you guys.
00:08:11Well, let's meet your children.
00:08:13All right, I'll go get them.
00:08:18Well, how are we doing?
00:08:19Nice to meet you.
00:08:20Juan.
00:08:20Nice to meet you.
00:08:22Nice to meet you.
00:08:23Hey, buddy.
00:08:23How are you doing?
00:08:24Good.
00:08:24I like your haircut.
00:08:25Nice to meet you, young lady.
00:08:26Nice to meet you.
00:08:27Pleasure.
00:08:28Pleasure.
00:08:29Pleasure, sir.
00:08:30Well, let's go run a test.
00:08:34It was good meeting you guys.
00:08:35Nice to meet you.
00:08:36Morgan actually came down here and found this gold on his own.
00:08:39But mining isn't just prospecting.
00:08:41You've got to be able to fix your equipment,
00:08:43you've got to be able to fabricate and weld,
00:08:45and he has to know where he's going next.
00:08:47Morgan's got a lot of ground here,
00:08:49so we've got to go find where he's got more gold on his property.
00:08:54Nice looking plant.
00:08:55Yeah.
00:08:56Been sturdy and it runs.
00:09:01Doesn't get as much dirt through it as I want.
00:09:08Now, when you bought it, did it come with carpets?
00:09:12I don't know if that...
00:09:13I've never run carpets in it.
00:09:14So I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
00:09:18And what kind of yardage you're running out of it, you think?
00:09:21We're doing 20, 25 yards an hour.
00:09:24A lot less than we hoped.
00:09:25But I can't get it to 40.
00:09:27Well, let's watch it run.
00:09:29Let's watch it run.
00:09:47First bucket, Juan.
00:09:48Start at a timer.
00:09:58Morgan feeds Pei into a 6-by-8-foot hopper,
00:10:02which is then washed down into a 24-foot trommel.
00:10:06Small material travels down into the 5-foot-long sluice,
00:10:12where hydraulic riffles help the gold to settle.
00:10:26If I don't get to my target,
00:10:28I can't blame anyone else if I fail.
00:10:30It's just me.
00:10:32Every year, I get the season started
00:10:34on high-interest credit cards maxed out.
00:10:37It might be $100,000 of debt
00:10:39from a few different loans and lines of credit
00:10:41because the bank, they won't touch a gold miner.
00:10:44And I've just got to hope that it comes back
00:10:46out of the ground to pay those credit cards off.
00:10:50Otherwise, it's over, because 21% payment
00:10:52on a $100,000 credit card through the winter,
00:10:55it's a lot of money.
00:10:58Hey, Morgan.
00:11:00Yeah?
00:11:02Do me a favor this go-around.
00:11:04Overfeed it.
00:11:05Yeah.
00:11:06I want to see what that water does
00:11:07coming out the back there.
00:11:08Yeah.
00:11:14I had him overfeed it to try to get
00:11:16what I think would be 40 yards an hour
00:11:18to see what the issues might be.
00:11:22That's his biggest choke point.
00:11:24And that's what's scaring him.
00:11:27That's why he's slowing down on his feet.
00:11:30See here?
00:11:31The amount of material coming out.
00:11:33Oh, yeah.
00:11:36That's really slow.
00:11:38Morgan's overall production is half the speed it should be.
00:11:43But any faster, hay spills out.
00:11:52You can tell that they're screaming really big.
00:11:55Right now, there's a sluice box.
00:11:58It has nothing for fine gold recovery.
00:12:00And that's an issue.
00:12:02Want to pan it, Fred?
00:12:05If the pan shows fine gold,
00:12:09Morgan could be throwing thousands of dollars away.
00:12:19How's that looking?
00:12:20You know, there's some in there.
00:12:22For sure.
00:12:23Little bitty guys.
00:12:24It's not a ton, but, you know, again,
00:12:26it was a tiny bit of material.
00:12:27Every speck adds up.
00:12:28You know, looking at his jar of gold there,
00:12:30he doesn't have a lot of fine gold in that jar,
00:12:33but that doesn't mean there's quite a bit of fine gold
00:12:35on these flames either.
00:12:36That's why we want to look at their gold
00:12:38before we watch their plant run.
00:12:40Yeah.
00:12:46Last bucket!
00:13:02Bueno.
00:13:04There we go.
00:13:06We did see a few things
00:13:07that we can definitely improve on.
00:13:09Pull the box and get it all cleaned up
00:13:11and see what we got.
00:13:12See you in the morning.
00:13:13Have a good night, guys.
00:13:15Thanks for coming out.
00:13:18Turn the water off for a sec,
00:13:19and then we can push
00:13:20the rest of the material this way.
00:13:24You should be able to wash the rest through.
00:13:28If you're losing a big percentage of that fine gold,
00:13:30you need help.
00:13:32Honestly, he needs help with his cut,
00:13:35and honestly, he needs help with his plant.
00:13:38I think I see gold!
00:13:39You can see it over here.
00:13:41I got a gold, Pete!
00:13:44Put it in the pan!
00:13:46I've got good gold so far
00:13:48in this spot I'm in,
00:13:49but when it comes to an end,
00:13:51I can't guarantee there's going to be gold
00:13:52anywhere else on these claims.
00:13:54That could be the end.
00:13:55If I'm not making gold,
00:13:57I'm not paying those bills.
00:13:58We're just winging it.
00:14:01Everything's riding on this.
00:14:18I think Morgan's trying to make a good living for his family.
00:14:21Morgan's a great guy, Fred,
00:14:22but I'm nervous about how he's running things.
00:14:25He's let the prospecting go,
00:14:26and now he's got a real problem
00:14:28because he's got nowhere to move to.
00:14:30If he wants to succeed,
00:14:31he can't do all this on his own,
00:14:33the prospecting and the mining.
00:14:47How's it going?
00:14:48It's good.
00:14:49Freddy and Juan meet Morgan
00:14:51to see the results from the four-hour test run.
00:14:55Did you get all the gold cleaned up then?
00:14:56We did last night.
00:14:58Well, let's weigh it up, huh?
00:14:59Yeah.
00:15:01Morgan needs two and a half ounces from this run
00:15:04to hit his 200-ounce target.
00:15:11Chunky stuff there, Fred.
00:15:13It is.
00:15:17There's a little more in there.
00:15:21Let's see what we got.
00:15:232.35.
00:15:242.35.
00:15:25Yeah, it's not bad.
00:15:26Uh-uh.
00:15:27Not terrible, no.
00:15:27But with roughly a month to go
00:15:29before the season ends,
00:15:31this would leave Morgan over 50 ounces short.
00:15:35Honestly, I'm a little nervous
00:15:36because I'm looking at it.
00:15:38You know, we got a lot of coarse gold,
00:15:40but we're really missing a lot of fines.
00:15:42Yeah, I haven't been able to catch it.
00:15:43I've tried.
00:15:44Well, and this gold's easy to catch.
00:15:46You can catch this gold behind, you know,
00:15:48a piece of rebar in this loose box.
00:15:51But that super fine gold,
00:15:52that's a whole other story.
00:15:54And that's what I've made my career on
00:15:55is recovering dust.
00:15:57One of the important things
00:15:59is looking for more ground.
00:16:01And you've got a huge property,
00:16:02so, you know,
00:16:03it might be a needle in a haystack.
00:16:05I'm nervous about that.
00:16:06We really need to find a new spot
00:16:07or there's no gold coming in
00:16:09and the bills don't get paid,
00:16:11and that's stressful.
00:16:12We're limited on time,
00:16:14but we'll try to help you however we can.
00:16:16Well, we'll go put our heads together
00:16:17and see what we come up with.
00:16:19Yeah, okay.
00:16:19We'll get back with you.
00:16:22You know, two ounces is great,
00:16:23but the reality of it is
00:16:25it's all relative to your bills.
00:16:27When you have excavators, plant,
00:16:30overhead with labor,
00:16:31it doesn't go very far.
00:16:41You know,
00:16:42what I'm thinking on that plant, Fred,
00:16:44you know,
00:16:44and you're the one that brought it up,
00:16:45you had them overfeed that shoot.
00:16:47So we've got that shoot
00:16:48coming in right here.
00:16:49Well, right now,
00:16:50it has that little mouth
00:16:51that goes inside the trommel.
00:16:53Need to extend it.
00:16:54I think that's going to be
00:16:55one of the number one fixes
00:16:56because I think we could get him
00:16:58around 40 yards an hour
00:17:00instead of the 25
00:17:01just by doing that.
00:17:02And what do you think
00:17:03about a side sluice?
00:17:04I like it.
00:17:05It's going to be able to be set up
00:17:06for fine gold
00:17:07and some coarse gold as well.
00:17:09His riffles right now
00:17:10that he has under the plant,
00:17:11so we need some under carpets
00:17:13underneath that.
00:17:14Everything we do,
00:17:15we're going to have to do it up here
00:17:16and then take it down there
00:17:17with the side by side
00:17:18and weld it down there.
00:17:20Equally as important as this
00:17:21is looking at the ground.
00:17:23He doesn't have a whole lot of idea
00:17:25of where to go next.
00:17:26He's got a lot of ground
00:17:27and we're only here a week.
00:17:29I'd like to look at
00:17:30some of these higher benches.
00:17:31I could see going in,
00:17:32you know,
00:17:33some rounded river gravels up high.
00:17:34So the river was there at one time.
00:17:48Hey, Morgan.
00:17:49How's it going, Morgan?
00:17:51Hey, guys.
00:17:52Good to see you.
00:17:53Yeah.
00:17:53Yeah.
00:17:54Freddie, during the test run,
00:17:55he actually had you overfeed the plant
00:17:57because the reality is
00:17:58you need to run more.
00:17:59When I did that,
00:18:00you know that feed chute
00:18:01that comes off your hopper
00:18:02that goes into the trommel?
00:18:03Yeah.
00:18:04It's not in far enough
00:18:05and that's why that material
00:18:06is hitting there
00:18:07and then backing up.
00:18:08Back out.
00:18:10We're going to extend that chute
00:18:11further into the trommel.
00:18:12Who should get you
00:18:13from 25 yards an hour
00:18:14to around 40 yards an hour.
00:18:16What we need to do
00:18:17is work on your gold recovery as well.
00:18:19So we're going to put new carpets
00:18:20underneath your riffles
00:18:21but on top of that
00:18:22at the end of the chute
00:18:23we're going to do a new chute
00:18:24with a new sluice.
00:18:26Fine gold sluice.
00:18:27That's going to tell you
00:18:27how much gold you have
00:18:28in your deposit.
00:18:29So let's say it gives you
00:18:30an extra 10 ounces a year.
00:18:31That's a big amount of money.
00:18:33And then you've got
00:18:33a big deposit out there
00:18:35but at least we can get
00:18:36some eyes on it.
00:18:37You know,
00:18:38a lot of times
00:18:38a miner will get tunnel vision
00:18:40and, you know,
00:18:41they're just got to run,
00:18:42got to run,
00:18:42got to run
00:18:43and you don't have time
00:18:43to prospect yourself.
00:18:45No time.
00:18:45You know,
00:18:45we're looking at about
00:18:46$8,000 in material,
00:18:47you know.
00:18:48That's because we're up here.
00:18:50Yeah.
00:18:50At home it'd be $3,000
00:18:52and then we'd like
00:18:53two ounces a piece
00:18:55which pretty much
00:18:56just covers our expenses,
00:18:57our fuel.
00:18:59There's no profit made in it.
00:19:01Two ounces a piece,
00:19:03four ounces.
00:19:03Yeah.
00:19:04Yeah, that's a lot of gold
00:19:06and having that plant down
00:19:08for a little bit of time
00:19:10costs a lot as well.
00:19:13Well, here's what
00:19:14we were thinking.
00:19:15Yeah.
00:19:15So we know you're
00:19:17in a bind, right?
00:19:18So while we're prospecting,
00:19:20fabricating,
00:19:21run the plant.
00:19:25The end of the month
00:19:26is coming
00:19:26and there's a lot of payments
00:19:27that got to be made.
00:19:29The Gold Morgan fines
00:19:31must cover all his costs
00:19:33including weekly wages
00:19:35for his two-man crew.
00:19:38This is what feeds your family.
00:19:39Totally.
00:19:40It's the only thing
00:19:40right now
00:19:41that I've got going on
00:19:42so it's important
00:19:43and, you know,
00:19:46I think I want to go with it.
00:19:51I trust in you guys
00:19:52and I think you're going to change.
00:19:53I think you're going to change
00:19:54my life here.
00:19:56Okay.
00:19:56Deal then.
00:19:57Yeah.
00:19:59We're just a couple hundred miles
00:20:00south of the Arctic Circle.
00:20:02You've got about
00:20:02a hundred-day mining season.
00:20:04So one of the biggest things
00:20:06to help Morgan out here
00:20:07is to increase his production
00:20:09by, say, 30%, 35%.
00:20:12That adds another 33 days
00:20:14in a hundred-day season
00:20:15if we can get him up
00:20:16by a third.
00:20:17Right now on the first run
00:20:18he was running
00:20:1920 to 25 yards an hour.
00:20:21We'd like to get him
00:20:21to 35 to 40 yards an hour.
00:20:27I think he's got a good head
00:20:28on his shoulders.
00:20:29He's done a ton of work already
00:20:30and give credit
00:20:31where credit is due.
00:20:32But ultimately
00:20:33if you're going to be
00:20:33a prosperous miner
00:20:35especially with a small crew
00:20:36like this
00:20:37you have to wear many hats
00:20:38and he's going to have
00:20:39to learn that.
00:20:40You have to constantly
00:20:41stay on top of it.
00:20:42Make sure that you're
00:20:43actually collecting gold.
00:20:45Prospecting as you're going
00:20:45and moving along
00:20:46because there's been
00:20:47a lot of miners
00:20:47that have a great first
00:20:49five, six years
00:20:50like Morgan has
00:20:51and then they lose
00:20:51their shirts.
00:21:05You've got a lot
00:21:06of ground here, sir.
00:21:07I just want to make sure
00:21:08that I've got claims
00:21:09to mine into the future.
00:21:11Deep in the Klondike region
00:21:13of the Yukon
00:21:14the existing cut
00:21:15on the frotten mine
00:21:17is about to run out.
00:21:19So Freddy takes Morgan
00:21:20on a needle in a haystack
00:21:22gold hunt
00:21:23for fresh ground.
00:21:25You should have
00:21:26a nice family.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:29They're everything.
00:21:30I started gold mining
00:21:32and my family
00:21:33all at the same time.
00:21:35Morgan's 288 claims
00:21:37lie within a 40 mile radius
00:21:40of gold rush legends
00:21:41Tony Beese
00:21:43and Parker Schnabel.
00:21:47His 6,000 acre
00:21:48virgin property
00:21:50stretches from a creek
00:21:51deep on the valley bottom
00:21:53to bench deposits
00:21:54further up the valley.
00:21:59I'm nervous
00:22:00about prospecting this.
00:22:01I know there's going
00:22:02to be white channel there
00:22:03but is there enough
00:22:04to make a living there?
00:22:06The Klondike's
00:22:07white channel
00:22:08is gravel deposited
00:22:10by ancient rivers.
00:22:11A high concentration
00:22:13of quartz
00:22:14gives the material
00:22:15a white color.
00:22:16Since the 1896 gold rush
00:22:19white channel pay
00:22:21has produced
00:22:22$80 billion
00:22:23worth of gold.
00:22:30Did you dig that hole?
00:22:32Yeah.
00:22:32When we cut the road
00:22:33down there.
00:22:35The road working
00:22:37has exposed
00:22:38deeper layers of gravel.
00:22:47I like the look
00:22:47of this.
00:22:48Yeah.
00:22:50It's got that
00:22:50white channel look
00:22:51to it.
00:22:54I'm going to bring
00:22:54in a friend
00:22:55if that's okay
00:22:56with you
00:22:56that knows
00:22:56a heck of a lot
00:22:57more about
00:22:58the white channel
00:22:58deposits than I do.
00:23:00Okay.
00:23:01I'm a redneck
00:23:02geologist
00:23:03but Jeff
00:23:04used to be
00:23:04the head geologist
00:23:06for the Yukon.
00:23:06He knows this area
00:23:07better than anybody.
00:23:15Taking some
00:23:15quick measurements
00:23:16for his main plant.
00:23:17At the mine site
00:23:18Juan begins work
00:23:20on Morgan's plant.
00:23:22We're going to take
00:23:23that plant
00:23:23that was designed
00:23:24for 20, 25 yards
00:23:25an hour
00:23:25we're going to
00:23:25actually make it
00:23:26a plant that's
00:23:26going to be able
00:23:27to handle 40 yards
00:23:28an hour
00:23:28and do it efficiently
00:23:29but more of that
00:23:30material that he runs
00:23:31he'll be able to
00:23:32catch more fine gold.
00:23:38On Morgan's plant
00:23:40the feed system
00:23:41clogs
00:23:42which causes
00:23:43material to
00:23:44overflow
00:23:44and spill out.
00:23:46Juan will bend
00:23:47a half inch thick
00:23:48steel extension chute
00:23:50for the feeder
00:23:51to allow increased
00:23:52amounts of material
00:23:54to enter
00:23:54the trommel drum.
00:23:57Then
00:23:58to trap
00:23:59every speck
00:24:00of fine gold
00:24:01looped mats
00:24:02will be added
00:24:03to the riffles
00:24:04and as an extra
00:24:05security measure
00:24:07Juan will use
00:24:08whatever materials
00:24:09he has
00:24:10to make a 14 foot
00:24:12sluice
00:24:12to try and catch
00:24:14the fine gold
00:24:15being lost.
00:24:19I'm hoping to be able
00:24:20to get it all designed
00:24:21out of one sheet
00:24:21of steel
00:24:22so we don't have
00:24:23a ton of waste.
00:24:24Juan gets going
00:24:25on the build
00:24:26cutting out steel
00:24:27pieces ready
00:24:28for the wash plant
00:24:29sluice.
00:24:31One of the things
00:24:32that we've got to
00:24:32be careful with is
00:24:33you know we travel
00:24:34with as much material
00:24:35as we can handle
00:24:36but honestly
00:24:36it's not a tremendous
00:24:38amount so we've got
00:24:39to use every piece
00:24:40sparingly.
00:24:42We've also got
00:24:42the extension chute
00:24:43and distribution box
00:24:44to build
00:24:45so there's a lot to do.
00:24:59How's it going Jeff?
00:25:00Fellas good to see you.
00:25:01Good to see you.
00:25:02Good to see you.
00:25:03Hey Morgan, I'm Jeff.
00:25:04Nice to see you.
00:25:06Out on the claim
00:25:07local geologist
00:25:09Jeff Bond
00:25:09arrives to help
00:25:11Freddy decode the land.
00:25:13Here we go.
00:25:16So
00:25:18Freddy kind of
00:25:19got me oriented here.
00:25:21You've got a tremendous
00:25:22amount of bench claims
00:25:23on here.
00:25:24You've got some
00:25:25really nice grades
00:25:25generally like this
00:25:27yellow line on the map.
00:25:28If we can find a piece
00:25:30of that pay streak
00:25:31up on the bench
00:25:32you've got a potentially
00:25:33big deposit
00:25:33because that runs a long
00:25:34ways up the valley.
00:25:36So that's reworked
00:25:37white channel left up
00:25:38on the bench?
00:25:39Ideally, yeah.
00:25:41White channels,
00:25:41it's your oldest gravel
00:25:42in the valley.
00:25:44Any gold that's in
00:25:45your creek
00:25:46has been reworked
00:25:48out of that white channel.
00:25:51Over hundreds of
00:25:53thousands of years
00:25:54rivers cut through
00:25:55the ancient
00:25:56white channel
00:25:57pay streak
00:25:58re-concentrating gold
00:26:00and making even
00:26:01richer bench deposits
00:26:03on the side
00:26:03of the valley.
00:26:05You've already got
00:26:06a pit up there
00:26:07so that's great
00:26:07to start there
00:26:09and go deeper
00:26:09but until we test it
00:26:11we won't really know.
00:26:18First step
00:26:19Freddie takes
00:26:20Jeff back
00:26:21to the gravel pit
00:26:22that showed signs
00:26:23of possible
00:26:24white channel
00:26:25pay.
00:26:26White channel
00:26:27it's a very
00:26:27very thick
00:26:28sequence.
00:26:29You have to
00:26:30dig deep
00:26:30to get to
00:26:31the bedrock
00:26:31contact
00:26:32to get to
00:26:32that pay streak
00:26:33at the bottom.
00:26:38Here we go Jeff
00:26:40first bucket
00:26:41see what's down
00:26:42there.
00:26:46The Klondike
00:26:47is a unique
00:26:48area
00:26:48it's an ancient
00:26:49landscape
00:26:50it's been
00:26:51very very
00:26:51geologically
00:26:52stable
00:26:52that means
00:26:53the landscape
00:26:53has not
00:26:54changed
00:26:55it's just
00:26:55been exposed
00:26:56to weathering
00:26:57by water
00:26:58gravity
00:26:59and wind
00:27:00over a long
00:27:01period of time
00:27:01then you get
00:27:02this really
00:27:03really high
00:27:04grade gold
00:27:04deposits in the
00:27:05creek.
00:27:14next one
00:27:15give us
00:27:15some of
00:27:16that
00:27:17thank you
00:27:19we're going
00:27:19to take a
00:27:19sample from
00:27:20the 25 foot
00:27:21level
00:27:21and see if
00:27:22there's any
00:27:23color in it
00:27:45well let's have
00:27:45a look at it
00:27:46huh Jeff?
00:27:46yeah let's get
00:27:47her done
00:27:48see what he's
00:27:48got here
00:28:00no gold
00:28:07nothing
00:28:15so this is
00:28:16going to be
00:28:16the start
00:28:17of it
00:28:18at the
00:28:18fixed site
00:28:19Juan is
00:28:20kicking off
00:28:20his first
00:28:21fabrication
00:28:23what I'm
00:28:23going to do
00:28:24first
00:28:25every two
00:28:26inches
00:28:27just like
00:28:28that
00:28:29we're going
00:28:30to come
00:28:30and we're
00:28:31going to do
00:28:31a relief
00:28:32cut
00:28:32and what
00:28:33that relief
00:28:33cut's
00:28:34going to
00:28:34do
00:28:34as I
00:28:35cut it
00:28:35we're
00:28:36going to
00:28:36cut it
00:28:36a little
00:28:36over half
00:28:37of the
00:28:38way
00:28:38through
00:28:38this
00:28:38plate
00:28:39it's
00:28:39going to
00:28:39give us
00:28:40a place
00:28:40where we
00:28:40can
00:28:40actually
00:28:41bend
00:28:41that
00:28:41plate
00:28:45once we
00:28:45get it
00:28:45to the
00:28:46radius
00:28:46we need
00:28:46we'll
00:28:47weld it
00:28:47and then
00:28:48that way
00:28:48it holds
00:28:49that shape
00:28:49that form
00:28:50this extension
00:28:51although it
00:28:52seems small
00:28:52really it's
00:28:53going to
00:28:53be a big
00:28:54fix
00:28:55on
00:28:56Morgan's
00:28:56plant
00:28:57material
00:28:58isn't
00:28:58falling
00:28:59far enough
00:28:59forward
00:29:00into the
00:29:00trommel
00:29:01causing
00:29:02it to
00:29:02back up
00:29:03and fall
00:29:03out
00:29:05by making
00:29:06multiple
00:29:06relief cuts
00:29:07across a
00:29:08half inch
00:29:09thick steel
00:29:09plate
00:29:10one will
00:29:11be able
00:29:11to bend
00:29:12an extension
00:29:13chute
00:29:13that should
00:29:14bridge the
00:29:15gap
00:29:15into
00:29:15Morgan's
00:29:16feeder
00:29:18that's going
00:29:19to allow
00:29:19us to be
00:29:19able to
00:29:19follow the
00:29:20contour
00:29:20of the
00:29:20chute
00:29:21extend
00:29:21it
00:29:22and that
00:29:22way
00:29:22it's
00:29:22like
00:29:22an
00:29:23additional
00:29:23piece
00:29:24with
00:29:24the same
00:29:25radius
00:29:40now
00:29:41we got
00:29:41it all
00:29:41welded
00:29:41back
00:29:42together
00:29:42Freddy's
00:29:43going to
00:29:43get it
00:29:43installed
00:29:44more
00:29:44material
00:29:45means
00:29:45more
00:29:45gold
00:29:45at the
00:29:46end
00:29:46of the
00:29:46day

00:41:14gallon
00:41:15buckets
00:41:16it's
00:41:17taking you
00:41:17so long
00:41:18Morgan
00:41:18these
00:41:19big
00:41:19size
00:41:19see
00:41:19those
00:41:20yeah
00:41:20oh man
00:41:21look at
00:41:21those rocks
00:41:22I'm trying to dig in between them
00:41:23if there's any gold
00:41:24that's where all the nuggies are hiding
00:41:26yeah
00:41:28the interesting thing about
00:41:30placer geology and looking for gold
00:41:32in the creeks
00:41:32is you've got to be prepared
00:41:35to pivot
00:41:37you've got ideas formulated
00:41:38in your head
00:41:39you think you know
00:41:40what you're doing
00:41:41and where you're going
00:41:42and where you're going
00:41:43and where you're going to find it
00:41:44and it's not necessarily going to be there all the time
00:41:46so you've got to be ready to adjust to sort of a new reality
00:41:51when you start to get some evidence on the landscape
00:41:53in order to be successful
00:42:05well this is the first trommel I ever had out here
00:42:08it's a good test plant
00:42:10to properly bulk test his 6,000 acre property in the future
00:42:15Freddie and Juan take a look at Morgan's out of service test trommel
00:42:21so the first summer I put the road into the claims
00:42:25and drug it in this small trommel
00:42:27and washed dirt that whole summer
00:42:29and I was able to get 70 ounces that summer out of that small trommel
00:42:33so at that point I knew I had a good gold deposit
00:42:36and the next steps were just get more gold out of the ground
00:42:41help you get your start really
00:42:42I really wanted to convert it into a test plant
00:42:45but I'm just kind of stumped on how to fabricate
00:42:49and make the right sluice runs on the end for a quick clean out
00:42:53I think this has got great bones
00:42:55and this would be a great test plant
00:42:56to be able to take up to your different areas
00:42:58and test your cut before you actually get in there
00:43:01and move a ton of material
00:43:02we're going to be right up against the clock on this one
00:43:06but maybe we can do something here
00:43:07very cool
00:43:09it does put a little more pressure on Freddie and I
00:43:11it's really a two-in-one rescue
00:43:13we're going to be fixing both plants
00:43:15but genuinely I want to make sure
00:43:16that we're able to set up his small test plant
00:43:18so that way he has a future to be able to go out
00:43:20and do the prospecting that he needs as well
00:43:36now we're cooking with gas
00:43:38now we're mining Freddie
00:43:40let's get some gold
00:43:42hopefully, huh?
00:43:44down at the settling ponds
00:43:46Freddie and Morgan joined Jeff
00:43:48to manually clean the bulk sample
00:43:50they took from the exposed bedrock section of the bench
00:43:54instead of just doing four gold pans
00:43:56we're going to run these buckets
00:43:58we had four or five gallon buckets of material
00:44:05if we don't see, you know, decent gold in this test
00:44:09oh, I don't know what to do
00:44:10we're running out of time
00:44:17feeling a bit nervous, I guess
00:44:19this is going to be the first test
00:44:21that's going to show if there's gold up there
00:44:23in the bench or not
00:44:24long time coming
00:44:2610 years
00:44:27if we find gold here
00:44:29then that's where I can go next
00:44:31this is it
00:44:32these four buckets will show us
00:44:35we'll know more when we pan it
00:44:37if Freddie and Jeff can't find anything out here
00:44:40then I don't think anybody can
00:44:43I've been using that gold in the ground as an ATM
00:44:46it's my currency
00:44:47so that's bad news
00:44:48for me, my family
00:44:50and the future
00:44:52that's everything we caught in that sluice box
00:44:54those four buckets
00:44:56down to this little bit of dirt
00:45:00bring her over, Morgan, we'll pan her
00:45:03just dump it in this one
00:45:17moment of truth
00:45:34how's it looking, Freddie?
00:45:40got some color
00:45:46yeah
00:45:46holy
00:45:53not bad at all
00:45:55yeah
00:45:56that's pretty good
00:45:57yeah
00:45:57I think there's some pretty chunky bits in there
00:45:59that one's really good
00:46:00yeah, it's not bad
00:46:01yeah, for sure
00:46:03holy smokes, man
00:46:06that's a tenth of a yard
00:46:08that's pretty incredible
00:46:09let's weigh it up tomorrow
00:46:11let's weigh it up tomorrow
00:46:11and see what we got
00:46:13yeah
00:46:14I've done a lot of four pail samples
00:46:16I rarely get anything close to this
00:46:19wow
00:46:19this is really good
00:46:20I'm happy
00:46:21yeah, me too
00:46:23is it enough to jump in the water?
00:46:27that was a pretty impressive little test right there
00:46:30and that's very mineable
00:46:31especially with what little overburden's on there
00:46:35you know, that's where Morgan goes next
00:46:37that might be his future right there
00:46:45coming up
00:46:49something's not right, Juan
00:46:52holy
00:46:54without doing this
00:46:55we won't be able to run, period
00:46:58stinger
00:47:002.35 is the number to beat
00:47:03oh wow
00:47:17at the fixed site
00:47:18it's all hands on deck
00:47:20but despite the pressure
00:47:22Juan teaches Morgan
00:47:24essential welding 101
00:47:28welding is one of those skills
00:47:30you have to have
00:47:31if you're going to be mining
00:47:31yeah, I agree
00:47:32I mean, it's a big skill set
00:47:34that I'm missing
00:47:35when you're mining
00:47:36and you're remote
00:47:37you have to be self-sufficient
00:47:39sometimes the mechanic
00:47:40won't be able to come out here
00:47:40for a week, two weeks, three weeks
00:47:42you've got to be able to do it yourself
00:47:48did you see that puddle?
00:47:50yeah
00:47:51you're basically just letting
00:47:52the rod do the work
00:47:53yeah, okay
00:47:54you're pushing too far
00:47:56you turn the arc off
00:47:57so you've got to have
00:47:58a little bit of a gap
00:47:59I see
00:48:01okay
00:48:02I'll give it a shot
00:48:05get a little closer
00:48:08the rod's getting hot
00:48:09don't hold the rod too much
00:48:10get a little closer
00:48:12burning faster than I thought
00:48:13okay, stop
00:48:16that's okay
00:48:17okay
00:48:17go for it again
00:48:18strike it again
00:48:24there you go
00:48:25way better
00:48:26you're getting your rod
00:48:28closer now
00:48:29that looks really good
00:48:30that's perfect
00:48:31perfect speed
00:48:34with Juan
00:48:35teaching me how to weld
00:48:36it gives me the confidence
00:48:38to tackle some of those
00:48:39lighter jobs
00:48:40and save a lot of money
00:48:41on hiring welders
00:48:42it's going to help me
00:48:43do things more efficiently
00:48:47lesson over
00:48:48with just 24 hours
00:48:50before the final test run
00:48:52Juan gets back
00:48:53to the fixes
00:48:54with Freddy
00:49:04there's a few more
00:49:05fine pieces in there
00:49:06Yukon geologist
00:49:08Jeff Bond
00:49:08weighs the gold
00:49:10he and Freddy
00:49:11took from their test
00:49:12of Morgan's
00:49:13white channel bench
00:49:15we took a tenth of a yard
00:49:18and we were predicting
00:49:19somewhere around
00:49:20a third of a gram
00:49:22and it dried overnight
00:49:24so I thought I'd give it away
00:49:25and see where we're actually at
00:49:28nice chunky piece there
00:49:30little nugget
00:49:4051 milligrams
00:49:42that's a lot better
00:49:43than we thought
00:49:43it was going to give us
00:49:44so that's really good
00:49:46it's a 25% increase
00:49:48in gold per yard
00:49:49compared to the material
00:49:51Morgan is currently sluicing
00:49:53that's a phenomenal number
00:49:55for four pails
00:49:56that's half a gram
00:49:58of gold
00:49:59if Morgan is able
00:50:00to run this material
00:50:01at 40 yards per hour
00:50:04for a full 10 hour day
00:50:06it will potentially deliver
00:50:08six and a half ounces
00:50:11people will mine
00:50:12this kind of grade
00:50:14at depths of 30 feet
00:50:17and this is literally
00:50:19four or five feet
00:50:20below the surface
00:50:20yeah Morgan should be
00:50:22really happy with that number
00:50:23I'm very happy
00:50:24yeah I am
00:50:26it's a great sample
00:50:31all packed up
00:50:32you bet guys
00:50:33thanks Jeff
00:50:34been a pleasure
00:50:35thanks for inviting me out
00:50:36Freddie really appreciate it
00:50:38appreciate you coming
00:50:39Morgan it's great to meet you
00:50:40you're doing a great job here
00:50:41thanks a lot Jeff
00:50:42it was really good
00:50:43to have you out here
00:50:44yeah you're welcome
00:50:45we'll drive safe
00:50:46yeah I will
00:50:47and let's keep in touch
00:50:48yep
00:50:49do this again
00:50:49got it
00:50:50it's so useful
00:50:51having Jeff out here
00:50:52he was a great help
00:50:54see you later sir
00:50:55bye Jeff
00:50:56we found some ground
00:50:57for Morgan
00:50:58but it's our job now
00:50:59to get the plant
00:51:00running more material
00:51:01per hour
00:51:02it's more money
00:51:03in his pocket
00:51:07you got it set
00:51:09at 1700 RPM
00:51:10despite an inefficient
00:51:11wash plant
00:51:12Morgan must keep
00:51:14running what pay dirt
00:51:15he has left
00:51:16from his existing
00:51:17pile
00:51:18to cover
00:51:19his approximately
00:51:20$20,000 a week
00:51:22overhead
00:51:23every day we're
00:51:24sleicing
00:51:248 to 10 hours
00:51:25that's the minimum
00:51:27we want to get
00:51:27on the sleaze box
00:51:30you only have so much
00:51:32time each summer
00:51:33to get everything
00:51:34in that you can
00:51:35one missed day
00:51:36is significant
00:51:37so I'm glad
00:51:39that Freddie and Juan
00:51:39are letting me
00:51:40run the plant
00:51:41while they get on
00:51:41with the build
00:51:45I've been working
00:51:46with Morgan
00:51:46for three years now
00:51:48I'm from Belgium
00:51:50originally
00:51:52so I was working
00:51:53in plumbing
00:51:54for about five years
00:51:56which was a good job
00:51:57but I wanted to change
00:51:58I wanted to be outside
00:52:00this job can be a little
00:52:01risky
00:52:02like the equipment
00:52:03breaks down
00:52:04it slows down
00:52:05the production
00:52:05it's a gamble
00:52:07I'm willing to take
00:52:10okay just wash
00:52:11those riffles off
00:52:13I've been working
00:52:14on this mine
00:52:15for two years
00:52:16before I met Morgan
00:52:17I swore I would never
00:52:18work on a mine
00:52:19then I was like
00:52:20yeah okay
00:52:21let's give it a go
00:52:21might as well
00:52:22slide that one
00:52:23over this way
00:52:24Morgan's great
00:52:25to work for
00:52:25he's the best boss
00:52:26I've ever had
00:52:27he really takes care
00:52:28of the employees
00:52:30he's out here
00:52:30sometimes 14 hours a day
00:52:33if we do a really
00:52:33good season
00:52:34I'm going to get
00:52:34God for my bonus
00:52:36if he really doesn't
00:52:37do well
00:52:37then I'm not
00:52:38going to get paid
00:52:39because he just
00:52:39doesn't have the money
00:52:40I'm going to have to
00:52:41find other work
00:52:51you know we probably
00:52:52have two days worth of work
00:52:54on this little trommel
00:52:55there's quite a bit to do
00:52:56we're going to be
00:52:58pressed for time
00:52:59on the other side
00:53:01of the cut
00:53:01Juan begins work
00:53:03on Morgan's
00:53:04inoperative test trommel
00:53:05while Freddy finishes
00:53:07fixes
00:53:07for the main plan
00:53:10I'm taking some
00:53:11quick measurements
00:53:12for the drop chute
00:53:13we've got to build
00:53:14for this
00:53:17right now
00:53:17it's got a pan
00:53:19that's set up
00:53:19to be able to
00:53:20discharge on the front
00:53:21there but the problem
00:53:21is it's not real
00:53:23adequate so we're
00:53:24going to build
00:53:24a whole new pan
00:53:25underneath
00:53:25that way the material
00:53:26that comes out
00:53:27of this test trommel
00:53:28can drop in there
00:53:29get concentrated
00:53:30into one spot
00:53:31and then drop
00:53:31into the sluice box
00:53:35on Morgan's test trommel
00:53:38Juan will design
00:53:39a custom made
00:53:40drop pen
00:53:41that will concentrate
00:53:42all the material
00:53:43falling out
00:53:44of the trommel
00:53:45then
00:53:46replace the existing
00:53:48nugget catcher
00:53:49with an all purpose
00:53:5010 foot
00:53:51by 24 inch
00:53:53sluice box
00:53:53for both coarse
00:53:55and fine gold
00:53:56capture
00:53:58it's kind of unfortunate
00:54:00we're not able
00:54:00to get the truck
00:54:01from the cut trailer
00:54:02all the way down
00:54:02here on site
00:54:04so we're going to
00:54:04have to take this
00:54:05up to the trailer
00:54:06this afternoon
00:54:06so we have it there
00:54:07so we can do
00:54:08all the repairs
00:54:08on it up top
00:54:10and then I'm going
00:54:11to have to put a
00:54:12welder in the back
00:54:12of the side by side
00:54:13and bring it down
00:54:13so we can do
00:54:14all the install
00:54:14on the plant
00:54:19let me sneak in there
00:54:21don't use that
00:54:22when you use those
00:54:23flat like that
00:54:24they'll come apart
00:54:25on you
00:54:29at the wash plant
00:54:30Freddy shut down
00:54:32sluicing for 24 hours
00:54:34to begin the installation
00:54:36of the fixes
00:54:38so this is the catch
00:54:39chute at the end
00:54:41of their existing
00:54:41sluices
00:54:42we're going to
00:54:43repurpose it
00:54:43but modify it
00:54:44we're going to cap
00:54:45that end off
00:54:46then we're going to
00:54:47build an extension
00:54:47chute to feed the new
00:54:49sluice off this end
00:54:55morgan moves one
00:54:57of his excavators
00:54:58to help install
00:54:58the new fixes
00:55:01i'm feeling really
00:55:02nervous about
00:55:03shutting my plant
00:55:04down and letting
00:55:05them make changes
00:55:06but i'm super happy
00:55:07that freddy and
00:55:08one are here
00:55:09it's the opportunity
00:55:10to increase production
00:55:12on this trommel
00:55:13and find out
00:55:14all the ways
00:55:15that i can improve
00:55:44this weld is coming
00:55:47apart
00:55:48i can't fix this
00:55:55so you felt it wobbling
00:55:56huh
00:55:57yeah the top was rocking
00:55:58and the bottom wasn't
00:55:59moving so something's
00:56:00going on
00:56:01oh
00:56:04how far around does it go
00:56:09it stops here
00:56:10it looks like it's
00:56:12separating for more
00:56:13than half
00:56:13half of the total
00:56:15circumference
00:56:15that's not good
00:56:16you've made yourself
00:56:17a hinge now
00:56:18wow
00:56:19because you want to
00:56:20air arc it in right
00:56:21you know what air
00:56:22arcing is
00:56:22i don't
00:56:23so it's carbon
00:56:24gouging
00:56:25so you're actually
00:56:26removing steel
00:56:27and putting a v in
00:56:28there
00:56:28okay
00:56:29yeah
00:56:29to do it
00:56:30proper proper proper
00:56:32you're looking
00:56:33three or four days
00:56:34wow
00:56:35we don't have
00:56:36the time to fix it
00:56:37while we're here
00:56:38we're doing all
00:56:39kinds of stuff
00:56:40and we can't stop
00:56:40doing that
00:56:41oh man
00:56:44the way that's broke
00:56:45do not take it up
00:56:46the hill again
00:56:48the modern mine
00:56:49everything's made out
00:56:50of steel
00:56:51and on top of that
00:56:52steel's always breaking
00:56:53wearing out
00:56:54luckily he's got a
00:56:55second excavator going
00:56:56so we got a backup
00:56:59that's my machine
00:57:00down
00:57:01it's a sinking feeling
00:57:02i'll make $50,000
00:57:04in the next week
00:57:05but it better go
00:57:05towards a fix
00:57:06it's frustrating
00:57:07i'm just not getting
00:57:08ahead
00:57:08it's a rough situation
00:57:14do you want to
00:57:28someone to cut that
00:57:29up for you
00:57:29yeah
00:57:33hopefully we're
00:57:33going to be
00:57:34sluicing all day
00:57:34we only have
00:57:35one excavator running
00:57:36i need to fix
00:57:38the other excavator
00:57:39i'm waiting on
00:57:40the mechanic
00:57:42to come and fix it
00:57:43it's not fun
00:57:44it's like
00:57:45a $20,000 fix
00:57:46really
00:57:47yeah
00:57:47ooh ouch
00:57:48that's a big
00:57:50price tag
00:57:51yeah but
00:57:52not doing it's
00:57:53more expensive
00:57:56a few years ago
00:57:57we were stressed
00:57:58about paying
00:57:59like $400
00:58:00$500 gas bills
00:58:01and now
00:58:02we're sitting here
00:58:03and we're paying
00:58:04$20,000
00:58:05in order to survive
00:58:06now our bills
00:58:08are so much bigger
00:58:09we don't have
00:58:11investors
00:58:11we don't have
00:58:12family that can
00:58:13bail us out
00:58:14and it really
00:58:15can be
00:58:16extremely stressful
00:58:17on us
00:58:18we are really
00:58:19all on our own
00:58:20okay guys
00:58:21i gotta get
00:58:22going
00:58:22Sasha
00:58:23i gotta run
00:58:24okay
00:58:25say bye to daddy
00:58:25bye bye daddy
00:58:28bye guys
00:58:29bye guys
00:58:52really has no way
00:58:53to be able
00:58:53to put it
00:58:53together
00:58:55just six hours
00:58:56remain
00:58:56until the second
00:58:58test
00:58:59freddie takes
00:59:00charge of the
00:59:00installation
00:59:01on the main
00:59:02plant
00:59:02while juan
00:59:03races to
00:59:04complete
00:59:05morgan's
00:59:05test trommel
00:59:07i'm getting
00:59:07everything designed
00:59:08for the sluice
00:59:09box right now
00:59:10because it really
00:59:10didn't have one
00:59:11before
00:59:11it had kind
00:59:12of a nugget
00:59:13trap
00:59:13that's not
00:59:14good enough
00:59:14we gotta be able
00:59:15to recover
00:59:16everything that's
00:59:17there
00:59:17whether it's
00:59:17chunky gold
00:59:18or fine gold
00:59:19this sluice
00:59:20should be able
00:59:20to do it
00:59:31got this box
00:59:32all done
00:59:34i got it all
00:59:34kind of lined up
00:59:35the way i want it
00:59:36there's still a
00:59:37drop pan to do
00:59:45one's final job
00:59:46for the test
00:59:47plant
00:59:48fabric
00:59:48fabricating
00:59:49the drop
00:59:49pan
00:59:52we're gonna
00:59:52have very little
00:59:53scrap on the end
00:59:54of the plate
00:59:55here
00:59:55for the most
00:59:56part
00:59:56we were able
00:59:57to nest
00:59:57everything in
00:59:58there
01:00:00a plasma
01:00:01cutter's arc
01:00:02can reach
01:00:03temperatures
01:00:03of up to
01:00:0440,000 degrees
01:00:06fahrenheit
01:00:11the test
01:00:12trommel
01:00:12is gonna be
01:00:13one of his
01:00:13most important
01:00:13pieces of
01:00:14equipment
01:00:14the reason
01:00:15for that
01:00:16is because
01:00:16that's gonna
01:00:16be the plant
01:00:17that goes
01:00:17ahead of the
01:00:18main plant
01:00:18and finds
01:00:19the better
01:00:19material
01:00:20that way
01:00:20he can have
01:00:21a good
01:00:21test program
01:00:22so he knows
01:00:23where he's
01:00:23going
01:00:23and he knows
01:00:24the future
01:00:30one's new
01:00:31creation
01:00:31will catch
01:00:32the gold
01:00:33bearing material
01:00:34from the trommel
01:00:34and diverted
01:00:36and diverted
01:00:36and diverted to
01:00:49well the drop
01:00:50pan is all
01:00:51done
01:00:51once we install
01:00:52it
01:00:52that little
01:00:52test trommel
01:00:53will be ready
01:00:53to go
01:01:01ready
01:01:02down at the wash
01:01:04plant
01:01:05the second test
01:01:06looming later
01:01:07in the day
01:01:08Freddy races
01:01:09to complete
01:01:10the installation
01:01:10of the fixes
01:01:16well we're gonna
01:01:17have to put
01:01:17this extension
01:01:18on here
01:01:19morgan
01:01:19okay
01:01:21okay
01:01:23let's try to
01:01:24use my foot
01:01:24there on that
01:01:25side
01:01:31oh we're just
01:01:32putting that
01:01:32extension in
01:01:34the hopper chute
01:01:35well you want
01:01:36to get with
01:01:36your guys
01:01:37and throw
01:01:37those carpets
01:01:38in
01:01:38yep
01:01:38we'll work
01:01:39on that
01:01:39thanks Freddy
01:01:40I'll see you
01:01:41later
01:01:41I'll finish
01:01:41this up

01:01:54morgan
01:01:54and his
01:01:55crew place
01:01:55fine gold
01:01:56catching mats
01:01:57under the
01:01:58riffles
01:02:07done
01:02:10the chute
01:02:11extension
01:02:12I put on
01:02:12here
01:02:13it welded
01:02:13like heck
01:02:14I think
01:02:15something's
01:02:15magnetic here
01:02:16something's
01:02:17magnetized
01:02:18but uh
01:02:19it'll hold
01:02:23we won't know
01:02:24until we run
01:02:25but hopefully
01:02:26that chute
01:02:26extension
01:02:27allows him
01:02:27to get up
01:02:28you know
01:02:2835-40 yards
01:02:30an hour
01:02:30instead of
01:02:3020-25 yards
01:02:31an hour
01:02:32like he's
01:02:32running now
01:02:33and if that's
01:02:34the case
01:02:34it's gonna be
01:02:35big for morgan
01:02:35and his family
01:02:36if you get a
01:02:37third more

01:04:29time
01:04:29so that
01:04:3040 minute
01:04:30round trip
01:04:31it doesn't

01:06:49we're going to bring the
01:06:50tracko in and change the
01:06:51contour of the ground
01:06:53next to the plant so we
01:06:54can get that sluice box
01:06:55in place
01:07:06right now it'll be a bit
01:07:07too flat we'll need to
01:07:08take that down probably a
01:07:11foot on that lower end
01:07:12there
01:07:17that bottom end's the
01:07:19most important morgan
01:07:20that far end
01:07:21right
01:07:28let me have a look at
01:07:29it
01:07:31let's try and eyeball it
01:07:32here
01:07:33the gradient of the
01:07:35sluice must be perfect
01:07:37to ensure water flows at
01:07:39the correct speed for
01:07:40fine gold to settle
01:07:42might take a little more
01:07:43off that end just the
01:07:44very end just with the
01:07:46shovel that high point
01:07:47down there right in
01:07:48front of you then we'll
01:07:50need to there you go
01:07:55so the next step is uh
01:07:57get the sluice back up
01:07:58here pick it up with the
01:07:59tracko and swing it into
01:08:00place
01:08:02you're good
01:08:10leave it long so we can
01:08:11spin it
01:08:17this past week I've
01:08:18learned a lot from
01:08:19Freddie and Juan
01:08:19they've really come in to
01:08:21my mind sight and given
01:08:22me a leg up and I just
01:08:24can't believe that
01:08:26there's people out there
01:08:27doing things like this for
01:08:29people like me that's
01:08:30incredible
01:08:32good
01:08:37exact
01:08:41oh no way
01:08:42no way perfectly level
01:08:46I can't believe that but I
01:08:48got lucky I held the level up
01:08:52just guessing I figured I'll be
01:08:54within six inches
01:08:55pretty good
01:08:57well we'll get the chains out
01:08:59of here
01:09:00while we're doing this guys if
01:09:01you guys want to grab those
01:09:02grab those riffles and bring them
01:09:05over
01:09:12that's a little change in the sluice
01:09:14right okay and one piece of gold that
01:09:17doesn't like one situation may like that situation
01:09:22pretty's finishing touch is the insertion of looped mats which sit under custom made expanded steel riffles that help fine
01:09:33gold settle
01:09:34so we'll grab our boards and I'll grab a hammer and we'll lock it in right up against the ramp
01:09:40same on the other side
01:09:42yeah put the wedges in so the woods doing multiple things for us guys one it's protecting the sides of
01:09:49your sluice box number two what happens when wood gets wet expand expand so that pushes your ripples down tighter
01:09:54so go ahead and just uh
01:09:59get it snug and then sideways get to right up against the side give or agree make sure they're tight
01:10:07first impressions we got a lot more sluice run here than we used to have so a lot more square
01:10:13footage of sluice and a lot of different types now so hopefully it's going to catch that fine gold that's
01:10:19coming off the end of the sluice box
01:10:22we got everything installed ready got the extension on the chute for the hopper in
01:10:26that's 100% ready to go we were able to get the distribution box here with the downspout that's in
01:10:31and we got that new sluice box in as well so looks great
01:10:38now we're at the point we're going to do is test run
01:10:40you know with a combination of everything we did we should be able to get more material through the trommel
01:10:44and ultimately be able to catch more of that fine gold
01:10:52can't wait to get this wash plan up and going again time to get started get some dirt in there
01:10:57let's go
01:11:36something's going on over there yeah he's got the hood open in the back
01:11:41something's not right one can go look at it
01:11:46shut down huh i'm not sure here what's going on
01:11:52we're just starting our final test and getting the excavator ready and i just lose power and a light
01:12:00comes on and you know you just get that sinking feeling none of my equipment's working i don't
01:12:05know what we're going to do the problem's got to be with that injector there is that oil or is
01:12:11that
01:12:11fuel coming out of it that is uh it's fuel coming out you got a lot of grit and stuff
01:12:18in there so
01:12:18and to me that tells me that the gasket's gone
01:12:22well i think uh you know unfortunately we don't really want to use that other excavator but we may
01:12:27have to okay you know we're not going to be tracking it back and forth it's going to be
01:12:31kind of in the stationary spot so we uh we have something to use
01:12:38honestly we got it down the machine we have a massive fuel leak and what the fuel's coming out
01:12:42of the injector oh really there's no way for us to fix it in the field and uh as of
01:12:47now we don't
01:12:47have anything to run a second test
01:12:51one of them might be salvageable uh but it's going to take freddy and i both of us to get
01:12:54together and
01:12:55weld on it to get it fixed there's two excavators down i can't feed that trommel without an excavator
01:13:02we can't shovel dirt in there with our hands so it's a rough situation if freddy and one can't
01:13:08fix the excavator i don't know what what we're going to do it's always something on one
01:13:23you see it one yeah at the front and mine two excavators are down
01:13:28and the second test run rests on freddy and one's emergency plan just put like 18 inches of weld
01:13:36front and back i was going to do four here here and in the front the same way yeah it's
01:13:42cracked just
01:13:42like this in the front too we're in a real bad situation right now you know to do it right
01:13:49it
01:13:50would take us over a week to be able to do it we don't have that kind of time we
01:13:52have to do a test
01:13:53run today because tomorrow we're on our way so what we're going to do is as much welding as we
01:13:58can
01:13:58and uh just patch it together to try to get it where it's stabilized and we can use it
01:14:04it's the only option we have right now without doing this we won't be able to run period
01:14:13stinger
01:14:26it's broke bad i mean without putting a band-aid on it like we're doing we couldn't do the test
01:14:30run
01:14:31it's gonna have to be done right all these bolts will have to be pulled air arched out
01:14:36gouge through and then weld it properly freddy and juan double teamed the turntable welding opposite
01:14:45ends in a bid to get the second test run back on track
01:14:59well freddy and i got the the excavator welded back together honestly it's not exactly how we wanted it
01:15:04normally it would take about a week to fix it in a shop but we didn't have that luxury we
01:15:08cobbled it
01:15:09back together hopefully it's good enough to be able to get it through the test run but we're going
01:15:12to find out we did some good teamwork there fred let's do a test run huh round two
01:15:36if freddy and juan weren't here to make this fix then we'd just have two excavators down and we'd be
01:15:41waiting on mechanics a couple weeks before anyone's going to make it here if they can make it here at
01:15:47all
01:15:57well that band-aid we put on the excavator it's holding for now
01:16:06against all odds freddy and juan begin the four-hour test start a timer
01:16:15first bucket on
01:16:25water looks good
01:16:33but you're feeding it a bit faster than you were it's faster yeah good
01:16:44perfect
01:16:45extension's working yeah
01:16:54now that's loose bucking installed feels absolutely great we're running more material
01:16:59and i know if we're losing gold out of that box we're going to catch it here
01:17:03i couldn't be happier with it
01:17:04it looks like we might be running about 35 40 yards an hour but we really won't know till tomorrow
01:17:11good run ready
01:17:14very good
01:17:16that patch weld we put on the excavator it's holding up well
01:17:20i'm happy with that
01:17:23hope there's gold in it
01:17:24well there should be
01:17:52you guys want to get it cleaned up and uh we'll see you for a gold way
01:17:55yeah we'll finish this perfect all right gentlemen we'll see you in the morning
01:17:58see you in the morning appreciate it thanks guys
01:18:02do the nugget trap first
01:18:05and then do the riffles
01:18:17what a day ups and downs
01:18:20let's hope we got a good result here
01:18:37let's go see what we got huh fred yeah i'm curious how we doing hello hello hi little ones hi
01:18:45How are you guys doing?
01:18:46Hi, guys.
01:18:46Good.
01:18:47Heard you guys had a busy week.
01:18:49Oh, yeah.
01:18:49Yeah.
01:18:50It was good, though.
01:18:51You got your gold?
01:18:52I got the gold.
01:18:54You know, sometimes it'll fool you.
01:18:56Mm-hmm.
01:18:56You think it's a lot, but it's not as much as you think.
01:18:59Here we go.
01:19:01Yep.
01:19:03In order to hit his 200-ounce seasoned gold and cover his overhead,
01:19:08Morgan needs more than 6 ounces per day,
01:19:11and this four-hour test needs to deliver at least 2.5 ounces.
01:19:17There's one ounce.
01:19:27There's two ounces, guys.
01:19:292.35 is the number to beat.
01:19:34Look at there.
01:19:342.35, and look how much is left in the jar.
01:19:37Wow.
01:19:39More yards per hour.
01:19:41Recovery is better.
01:19:42Better recovery, yep.
01:19:45There's three.
01:19:45There we go.
01:19:47Oh, that's a big old chunky one.
01:19:49That's a nice nugget.
01:19:50Oh, wow.
01:19:51Good, hey?
01:19:52Yeah, we got more fines in there.
01:19:54Just unbelievable.
01:19:56There's three and a half.
01:20:02Call it out, Morgan.
01:20:05372.
01:20:073.72, guys.
01:20:08Wow.
01:20:09Wow.
01:20:09From a 10-hour run, Morgan will get more than three ounces over his daily target,
01:20:16earning him a potential $200,000 worth of gold a week.
01:20:22Yay!
01:20:23372.
01:20:24Yeah.
01:20:24That's a big nugget.
01:20:26Wow.
01:20:26That's great.
01:20:27Yeah.
01:20:27That's a huge increase, guys.
01:20:30That goes a long way to pay for repairs.
01:20:32You know, you got two track hose down there that need work.
01:20:34You know, it's going to help a lot.
01:20:36You've only got weeks left on this material, right?
01:20:39Then you're going to have to concentrate on that bench up there.
01:20:42You need to get some rubber tired equipment.
01:20:44You know, whether it's a loader, a haul truck, that's going to be your next step.
01:20:47Yeah.
01:20:47Because, you know, as you start coming up, you know, uphill, you can't get your equipment up there.
01:20:52You can't put a wash plant up top.
01:20:54Keep on expanding.
01:20:55Keep on growing your empire.
01:20:56Yeah, well, thanks a lot.
01:20:58Like, just, we're getting more dirt through now, and obviously that means more gold.
01:21:02So, just unbelievable.
01:21:03Don't spend it all in one place.
01:21:06I couldn't be happier for Morgan.
01:21:08All this tells me is they have a future.
01:21:11He has the ground.
01:21:12He has the equipment now.
01:21:14All he needs to do is run.
01:21:16This is always the worst part of any rescue.
01:21:18Same bye.
01:21:19You know, I think these changes you guys made could be felt in this family for generations.
01:21:27My kids just have a couple of things they want to give to you.
01:21:32Excavator.
01:21:33And a bulldozer.
01:21:35That's awesome.
01:21:35Did you draw that?
01:21:36Yeah.
01:21:36Well, that's sweet.
01:21:38Thanks for helping my daddy.
01:21:40You're very welcome.
01:21:41Thank you for this.
01:21:42Thank you for helping my dad get lots of gold.
01:21:45You're very welcome, buddy.
01:21:47I got another excavator.
01:21:49I like it.
01:21:49Thank you, Sasha.
01:21:51Ah, look at that.
01:21:52Well, thanks.
01:21:52You guys just worked so hard for us, and we really appreciate it.
01:21:56You're welcome.
01:21:58It feels really good to help a family like this out, right?
01:22:01You got kids stacked up like cordwood.
01:22:04Like a lady.
01:22:04Like a mother that just cares greatly for them.
01:22:08You can see it.
01:22:09You know, and you got Morgan that works 15 hours a day trying to put food on the table.
01:22:13So, yep, means a lot.
01:22:28Bye, guys.
01:22:30Bye.
01:22:31Stay in touch.
01:22:33Yeah.
01:22:46Here's the sliice run that Juan and the guys built.
01:22:54It's got some nice bigger rocks in it, which is a great sign for gold.
01:23:00Looks good.
01:23:06Okay, here's the pines.
01:23:09Eight, ten, eleven, twelve.
01:23:13Twelve point three six.
01:23:15We've got the course here.
01:23:16It's pretty much 200 ounces.
01:23:22I want to thank Freddie and Juan so much.
01:23:25There's no words that can really describe it.
01:23:28And I'll be right back.
01:23:31Thanks, friend.
01:23:31You
