00:23ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:45We're hearing the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grand Prix have been cancelled.
00:53After five weeks off, Formula One has reset and returns here in Miami.
01:10I think everyone's excited to be back at work.
01:14It's been a long few weeks.
01:22It's been too long.
01:23I was playing with the Skeletrics.
01:25I was missing Formula One so much.
01:35It's been a long gap, and I hope the teams have put it to good use.
01:38Watch, you better watch your step.
01:41You better watch your step.
01:42You better watch.
01:43You better watch your step.
01:45You better watch your step.
01:47You better, you better watch.
01:48We are back this weekend, and we're back with a vengeance.
01:55After five weeks off, it's back to work.
01:58Three races and two sprints in.
02:00And Formula One's youngest ever championship leader is still Kimi Antonelli.
02:05Despite a poor start and a five-second penalty in the sprint here in Miami
02:09that left him finishing down in sixth.
02:13But Lando Norris and McLaren are reinvigorated with a significant upgrade
02:18that characteristically worked.
02:20The world champion on pole for the sprint
02:22and then converted it to finish four seconds ahead of his teammate.
02:26And McLaren won two.
02:28The cars have been worked on out of park ferme,
02:31getting ready for qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix,
02:34which gets underway in just under an hour's time.
02:39Evening, everybody.
02:40Well, it was worth the wait, wasn't it?
02:42Five weeks off, but Formula One, as I mentioned,
02:45back with a vengeance.
02:47We had a thrilling sprint qualifying.
02:49Four teams inside the top five.
02:52And then McLaren, well, those upgrades are clearly working.
02:55A one-two for them.
02:57Mercedes, a little bit out of things.
02:58We'll come on to that in a few moments' time.
03:00But let's start with the headline, Jenson Bunn, Naomi Schiff.
03:04JB, they've done such a good job over the past couple of years
03:07in getting the correlation between what happens factory wind tunnel
03:11and the track correct.
03:12And it seems to have been proved valuable again.
03:15Yeah, they might not have started with the best car on a few occasions,
03:18but their upgrade packages are just second to none.
03:22They really are.
03:22So it's not taking them long to understand the package.
03:26And I think a lot of it's from the power unit
03:28and understanding the deployment and what have you.
03:30But they came out and were super strong yesterday.
03:33And an easy one, too, it looked like in the sprint.
03:36What's the secret to it, actually?
03:38Because you see so many teams that actually struggle with that very thing.
03:41Just getting stuff that will work with the CFD and the wind tunnel
03:46and then coming to the track.
03:47When it doesn't work, it can look horrendous.
03:49But when it works like that, that's what makes world champions.
03:53Yes, and I think there's probably a couple of teams up and down the pit lane
03:55who could take a note from McLaren on that
03:57because I don't have the answer to why it makes it work
04:00because if the others can't sometimes figure that out,
04:02then I certainly can't.
04:03But one thing that Jenson obviously mentioned now
04:05is these cars have been in development for a very long time, right?
04:08They just didn't come out in Australia
04:10without having worked on these for a very long time.
04:12And Mercedes have obviously had the information
04:14for how that power unit works,
04:17all the nuances of it, for a long time before McLaren.
04:19And they've now been able to figure that out
04:21and even outperform Mercedes with their own equipments.
04:24That don't really on song.
04:26He finished in the end four seconds ahead of his team-mate.
04:28The moment was just a 19-lap sprint race.
04:31But with regards to Mercedes, they're out-sync.
04:33We know that in about three weeks' time when we go to Montreal,
04:36that's when they're going to have their upgrade package
04:38and we're going to see these big swings.
04:40But look at the start here for Kimi Antonelli,
04:42the front row of the grid.
04:43He's lost places every single start so far this year.
04:46What's going on?
04:47Yeah, the strange thing here is the team said,
04:49you did nothing wrong, Kimi.
04:51You know, we thought there was going to be more grip than there was,
04:54so the settings were wrong.
04:55But it seems strange because it's been so consistently bad for him
04:59getting off the line.
05:00And that can cost you a championship.
05:02He did actually make a very good pass,
05:04what had been passed, on his team-mate around the outside of Turn 1.
05:08But then, by his own admission afterwards,
05:10when he was interviewed, he was saying it kind of got under his skin.
05:12He was frustrated.
05:13He then violated track limit limits four times,
05:16got a five-second penalty,
05:17and it dropped him down a couple of places.
05:19Yeah, there's a lot of hype around Kimi,
05:21and I think he's doing a brilliant job.
05:22I mean, he's the youngest championship leader in F1 history.
05:25But unfortunately, we're going to see these little mistakes, right?
05:28But let's take the start out of it,
05:29because, as they said, that was not a him issue in this scenario.
05:32But the small issues of, you know, not fighting too hard.
05:35It's a sprint race, right?
05:36He just lost a couple of points there that he's just thrown away.
05:39And we know the championships have been won
05:40with far less gap than two points.
05:43Yeah, no, what we kind of expected is the team expected this.
05:46It's going to be like that, isn't it?
05:48Because he's only in his second year of Formula 1 racing.
05:50Yeah, the problem is, though, that when you...
05:52It gets under your skin, it really does,
05:54when you have that many issues doing one thing
05:57and you keep making the same mistake
05:58or someone keeps making the same mistake.
06:00So that's going to play on his mind
06:01every time he pulls up to those lights.
06:03So until he has a good one,
06:05it's just going to...
06:05I feel like it's going to get worse every race.
06:08Those Porsches, they echo around the stadium here, don't they?
06:11God, they sell things like being trackside.
06:13Right, hospitality here.
06:16Well, you might need to take a mortgage out,
06:18a second mortgage if you want to buy a hot dog.
06:20$150, what is being quoted at.
06:22I wonder if Karun and Rachel have found one.
06:26Well, yes, we've come out to one of the famous areas
06:29here at the Miami Grand Prix.
06:31I mean, we are chilling, Karun, right now.
06:33We probably should take these off,
06:35much as we want to stay.
06:36I didn't know there'd be a pool here.
06:38I mean, there's several pools here.
06:39This place is amazing.
06:40They've built these little cabanas out.
06:42Everyone looks like they're having a great time here.
06:44You've got the cable car running across as well.
06:48And, yeah, I mean, I have to say,
06:51I put my hand in the water.
06:53It is a lovely temperature
06:54because it is sweltering at the moment.
06:57It is so hot.
06:57I did dip a toe,
06:59but I think it could be a couple of degrees cooler.
07:01It just should really be refreshing.
07:03If you told me,
07:03I would have bought my swimming things
07:05and I'll watch qualifying from there
07:06because this is where these guys
07:07will be watching qualifying from.
07:09They're being very well looked after over here.
07:11Yeah.
07:11It's a good spot, isn't it?
07:12It's pretty unique.
07:13It's fantastic.
07:14They get a view of the track down this side
07:16and, you know,
07:17the brilliant high-speed section of the track.
07:20They've got the big screen here
07:21so they can watch it all.
07:23You know, it's just brilliant.
07:24And actually, I have to say,
07:26the whole fan zone
07:27that's on the other side of this structure
07:29is absolutely packed.
07:32I mean, the crowd have turned up in force today.
07:34They have indeed.
07:35It's a great setup for people
07:37to come and sit and relax and watch the race.
07:38And in these temperatures,
07:39it is one of the most popular places around here.
07:42Are we going to go for a little bit more of a wonder?
07:44Yeah, why not?
07:45Let's go.
07:46Let's...
07:46Where are we going?
07:47You lead the way.
07:48I'm going to come up this way.
07:49So the cabanas you have to book...
07:51Look, the food's out for lunch already.
07:52This is awesome.
07:53Cabanas you have to book.
07:54Ferrari fans here on our right
07:56in their cabana.
07:57More fans up here.
07:59And Pete is going to sprint up the ramp
08:02to show us the bigger pool up here.
08:04Look at this, Karun.
08:05This is where you'll find me
08:06during qualifying later.
08:07This is the Senna Lounge.
08:08So they've got various people here
08:11I've seen in Senna merchandise as well.
08:14So they've got a special lounge in here for them
08:16and an even bigger pool
08:18with the kids swimming in there as well.
08:19Look at that.
08:20Yeah, that's the Senna Lounge, Pete, there.
08:22And here is the big pool where...
08:24Karun, do you fancy a dip?
08:25You've got a spare outfit change in the office.
08:27I know you have.
08:28No, I haven't.
08:28And we've got to go back to work in a minute.
08:31All right.
08:31Great stuff.
08:32Well, we'll be here a little bit longer, Simon.
08:33But back to you guys in the heat.
08:37Oh, get your top off, Karun.
08:39What a shame.
08:40What a shame.
08:40Anyway, perhaps next time.
08:42I know it's a bank holiday weekend
08:43back in the UK.
08:44So in case you are out and about,
08:46here's a reminder of what happened in the spring.
08:53It's lights out and away we go.
08:55And this time, Charles Leclerc getting a better start
08:58against Kimi Antonelli,
08:59who's getting bogged down once again
09:00into the first corner.
09:01Lando Norris leads from Oscar Piastri.
09:04Then Charles Leclerc.
09:04George Russell is now going wheel to wheel
09:07with Kimi Antonelli who gets past him.
09:09And there is Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton
09:12having a great old scrap going through turn one.
09:16Well, is this George Russell making a move
09:18into turn 17?
09:19Looks like it, doesn't it?
09:21He's decided, I can't wait any longer here.
09:25There is Antonelli ahead of George Russell
09:28and Verstappen squeezing down the inside
09:30on Lewis Hamilton.
09:31And they both go off the track.
09:34So Antonelli's got back ahead of George Russell
09:37and Lewis Hamilton, I think,
09:40is allowed to go past by Max Verstappen.
09:44Here goes Max Verstappen down the inside
09:47at turn 17 and repasses Lewis Hamilton.
09:51But this time, it's on the track.
09:5519 laps of a sprint race here
09:58at the Hard Rock Stadium,
09:59the Miami International Autodrome.
10:01Lando Norris in what is sprint race 26
10:03is going to pick up sprint race victory number four.
10:07Orlando Norris crosses the line.
10:09A very comfortable winner here.
10:12Nice win.
10:13Great job.
10:14Let's do it all over again.
10:21Yeah, that's what they'll be aiming to do.
10:23McLaren finishing one, two in the Miami sprint
10:25and for second Kentucky's consecutive season.
10:29Piastri finishing second in the Japanese Grand Prix
10:31and the Miami sprint.
10:33Charles Leclerc finishing in third.
10:34George Russell and Max Verstappen moving up a couple of places
10:37because of Kimi Antonelli's violation of track limits.
10:41He, in the end, finished up sixth.
10:43Lewis Hamilton in seventh.
10:44And Pierre Gasly, the only other one to pick up a point.
10:48But he's going well in his Alpine.
10:50Franco Colapinto had outqualified him for the first time
10:53in any format going into that sprint
10:55but finished outside of the points.
10:57Nico Hülkenberg, well, a race against time
10:59to get his car ready for the start of qualifying
11:02because it looked to go pop the power unit
11:04because there were flames coming out the back of it
11:06as he went to the grid.
11:07Arvid Limbad had a clutch issue
11:09and also did not start.
11:11What it means then to the driver standings,
11:13it was nine points, the difference between the two Mercedes drivers
11:16at the start of the day.
11:18It's now down to seven.
11:19Charles Leclerc extends his lead over his teammate to 12 points.
11:23Lano Norris and Oscar Piastri closing the gap on the Ferraris.
11:26Behrman's still the best of the rest outside the top three teams.
11:29But Max Verstappen, pretty happy, actually,
11:31with the way that his car is performing so far this weekend.
11:34Reckons that it's half the gap to the leaders.
11:38Further down, as we were saying,
11:39Carlos Sainz has been absolutely livid
11:41with the way that his Williams has been performing at this weekend.
11:46But so too, I should imagine.
11:47Aston Martin to Valonzo and Stroll,
11:48who have, crumbs for comfort,
11:50apparently solved out the vibrations,
11:52or solved the vibrations that were coming from the steering wheel.
11:56So the constructors, 45, the gap between Mercedes and Ferrari.
12:00And a closing gap on the scooter rear to 37.
12:04Now, some extremely sad news as we came here.
12:07Overnight, we learned that yesterday,
12:10former IndyCar driver and twice a winner of a championship over there,
12:15Alex Zanardi, former F1 driver as well, passed away.
12:19He was, I'd say, a quadruple Olympic champion in hand cycling as well,
12:24and a real inspiration.
12:25It wasn't just that.
12:26As a double amputee, he came back to racing.
12:28He was racing in touring cars all the way up to sort of 2019, Jensen.
12:32And, you know, the Italian prime minister has chipped in
12:37and just said what an inspiration he was.
12:38But I think everybody up and down the pit lane
12:40are feeling really sad today.
12:42Yeah, really sad.
12:43And I obviously followed his career.
12:47And we kind of crossed paths at Williams.
12:49In 1990, he finished at Williams,
12:50and I jumped in his seat in 2000.
12:53So, and then we, I've spent some lovely times with him.
12:56One at Goodwood Revival,
12:57where my wife and I were sat next to him
12:58and just listening to his stories,
13:01it's unbelievable how much he's been through.
13:03And still, he's so, it was so positive.
13:06A real inspiration to all of us
13:08and what he achieved in cars,
13:10in F1, in IndyCar, in touring cars.
13:13But then to go and win, you know,
13:15the Paralympics four times is exceptional.
13:19I know that you used to drive for his cars in Tink.
13:22Is that right?
13:23So, I mean, you must have met him.
13:24What kind of a person was he?
13:26Well, look, I think, firstly,
13:27it was such an honor to just wear the badge,
13:29the Zanadi badge,
13:30because of what he stood for
13:31and the message that it delivers for young kids out there
13:34to, you know, how you can face such terrible things,
13:37but you can come back and be so successful.
13:39So, he really redefined
13:40what the world in sports can look like.
13:43He was always really funny,
13:44but also didn't waste time being very direct if he had to.
13:50I raced it within his team
13:51in the World Championships
13:52alongside Nick DeVries, actually.
13:53And, yeah, what a memory.
13:55I mean, it's obviously a very, very sad loss,
13:57but at the same time,
13:58you've got to think what an incredible life he lived
14:00and what an inspiration he is.
14:01Yeah, extremely, extremely sad news.
14:04We'll be talking more about that tomorrow,
14:06looking back on Alex Zanadi's unbelievable career.
14:09But Alex Zanadi, who died yesterday at the age of 59.
14:21OK, let's move it back on to matters from today.
14:24And I mentioned that about Max Verstappen.
14:27And actually, when we look at the way
14:29that Isaac Hadjard started the season,
14:31actually, in terms of race, qualifying for the race,
14:34out-qualified Max two to one.
14:36But then we get here,
14:37and Max has clearly found something in the car
14:39that Isaac hasn't.
14:41He was about 25 seconds ahead, I think, I'm right in saying,
14:43of his teammate was Max Verstappen.
14:46That's more, I suppose, red than what we saw
14:49over the last few years against other teammates, Naomi.
14:51It is what we've become more accustomed to seeing
14:54from Max and his teammates.
14:55I think Isaac obviously had an incredible start to the season,
14:57but we heard yesterday from Laurent
14:59that actually there was maybe something more going on
15:01in the car, and it wasn't just Isaac's performance.
15:03But you've also got to say that things have slightly changed, right?
15:06There have been some tweaks to the regs,
15:08and I think that Max has been able to deliver more.
15:11He's more on the limit,
15:12and therefore he's able to make more of a difference.
15:13And so happier Max Verstappen who's maybe applying himself
15:16a little bit more now that he's got the equipment he wants.
15:18And this took us back a bit.
15:19Some fabulous racing with Lewis.
15:20That one, he was a judge to obviously overtake him,
15:23or done the overtake off the track.
15:25So he gave it back, but he gave it back.
15:27You just missed it there just before the overtake line.
15:30It was a little bit like Sound in 2021
15:32where they were playing DRS Chicken,
15:34but that's Max being Max and Lewis being Lewis.
15:36Yeah, and the problem is when Max is being Max,
15:39it takes your breath away a little bit,
15:41and you're like, hang on, what should I be doing?
15:43Should I ever take him or not?
15:44I don't know what I'm doing right now.
15:45So no, it was an unusual situation Lewis found himself in,
15:48but I have to say the move that was great was turn two.
15:51Three abreast through turn two.
15:53There's real trust and belief in the people you're fighting with
15:57to do that, and really, really good to watch.
16:01So he's a catch-eye.
16:03He's a different kind of character, I would say.
16:05I mean, I think we all think this, don't we?
16:06He seems like he's extremely sure of himself.
16:10He doesn't suffer fools gladly, are they?
16:13He calls it as he sees it.
16:14It's much like his teammate,
16:16but he just hasn't looked right this weekend,
16:18and I wonder when you're having a weekend like this,
16:21how you kind of pick yourself up.
16:22You've got another opportunity, as we said,
16:24because it's out of Park Fermi now to make a few changes.
16:27Let's see what happens.
16:28Well, exactly, and I think that's the beauty of these sprint weekends.
16:30Even though we get a good taste on Friday
16:32and the beginning part of Saturday,
16:33we get a clear reset right now, right?
16:35Park Fermi's over.
16:36They can make the changes they need.
16:37We only had 90 minutes of practice
16:39with a lot of upgrades coming onto these cars,
16:42small tweaks with the regulations,
16:43so there could be a little bit of that as well,
16:44and we keep saying that we keep seeing small issues with these cars,
16:48some ECU stuff, some software stuff,
16:50so there might be a bit more that we don't really know about
16:52that could be playing into it.
16:54Okay.
16:54Right, when we come back, more on McLaren.
16:57They have returned, as we said, with a vengeance.
17:00And they had a show run downtown on Wednesday night.
17:07That's Oscar Piastri in Lewis Hamilton's 2008 championship-winning car
17:12going around the streets here
17:14and showing it off in front of the fans.
17:16What a way to start race week here in Miami.
17:42Ted!
17:42What?
17:43Come on.
17:43New era.
17:44New cars.
17:45New jargon.
17:46Break it down for me.
17:47Let's start with the engine.
17:49Ooh, the beating heart of the machine.
17:511.6 litre, so quite small, but turbocharged.
17:54Yeah, but some teams have bigger turbos than others.
17:56A small one, like Ferrari's, is great for the starts.
17:59Yeah, those Ferrari starts are insane.
18:02But isn't there also an electric motor
18:03bolted onto the side of the engine?
18:05Yes, it's a motor and a generator,
18:07so it motors on acceleration
18:08and generates electricity
18:10by effectively slowing the car down.
18:12Like the car's harvesting electricity.
18:14Why do they even call it harvesting again?
18:17Ah, yes, harvesting.
18:18Sounds quite romantic, doesn't it?
18:20Like harvesting wheat
18:21at the end of a summer with a scythe.
18:25Ted!
18:26Sorry.
18:27But instead, they're harvesting electricity.
18:30I guess in an engineering context,
18:31it's basically recharging the battery.
18:33Recharge.
18:34Got it.
18:35But do I really need to know
18:36about kilowatts and megajoules?
18:38Well, it depends how much you're interested.
18:40The electric motor kicks out a maximum of 350 kilowatts,
18:44the kilowatt, of course,
18:45being the unit of power produced by an electric motor.
18:48That is quite a lot, 470 horsepower.
18:50But what is all this about megajoules?
18:53Well, the megajoule is a measure of energy,
18:54of work, basically.
18:56F1 cars are allowed to generate
18:58and then pump out up to 8 megajoules per lap,
19:01although they are considering changing that from track to track.
19:03And what about deployment?
19:05Well, that's just using the boost from the battery.
19:07And overtaking mode?
19:09Ah, well, if you're within a second of the car in front,
19:12you get half a megajoule extra.
19:14That's not very much.
19:15Boost button?
19:16That's much more useful.
19:17Press that boost button,
19:19you can use all your battery energy
19:21and steam past someone.
19:22Now you're talking.
19:24What about active aero?
19:25That's when the wings go up on the straights
19:27when you don't need the downforce
19:28and then down in the corners when you do.
19:30That makes sense.
19:31I actually knew that already.
19:32Well, we got all this way
19:33and you haven't even mentioned superclipping.
19:36Superclipping!
19:37Superclipping is when you run the generator off the engine
19:40when the engine's at full beans.
19:41It does dull the engine's power, of course,
19:43but it's a great way of generating electricity.
19:46That actually sounds like a straightforward thing
19:47that they've just given a funny name.
19:49Why superclipping?
19:51Superclipping.
19:52Sorry.
19:52Well, I guess it sort of clips the top end of the engine.
19:55In a super way.
19:57Right.
19:58When you explain it like that,
19:59all this jargon isn't really that complicated.
20:01Thank you very much, Bella.
20:03It wasn't a compliment.
20:09Got it?
20:10Good.
20:10Well, I'll probably have to keep running through it,
20:12but thanks, Bella.
20:13Thanks, Ted, for trying to simplify it.
20:15Funnily enough, I got...
20:16There's a place behind there
20:18where you can get some lovely brisket and ribs,
20:20and I got caught talking to your...
20:22Well, to Tom Stallard, basically,
20:23a year-old race engineer
20:25who's now in charge of Oscar Piastri,
20:27and he said,
20:28if you're going to explain it to someone,
20:29you're going to need graphs.
20:30Some of you might need
20:31a mechanical engineering degree.
20:33It is complicated.
20:34I think that's...
20:35The frustration for the fans has been that
20:37kind of what you're seeing on track
20:39potentially isn't actually what's going on.
20:42Is that really the issue?
20:43Well, you just explain it with sarcasm,
20:45and then us Brits definitely know what you're talking about.
20:49I agree.
20:50It's been very complicated,
20:51very difficult for everyone to understand.
20:53Being a fan of the sport, myself,
20:56but I think the important thing is
20:58that we're fine-tuning it the whole time
21:01with the drivers
21:02and what their comments are
21:03of how it's working for them.
21:05So as long as we see improvements
21:07and we see drivers getting out of the car
21:08happy with how the car feels,
21:10it's all positives.
21:12As long as we're getting nice lunges as well,
21:13like we had in the sprint race.
21:15100%.
21:15Look, it is Formula 1.
21:16We are at the start of a new set of technical regulations.
21:19There are always mines.
21:20There are always complaints.
21:21There were at the start of the turbo hybrid era.
21:24We've got some of the best brains in the world
21:26in engineering working on these
21:28to make it and improve it.
21:29And actually, the noises you were saying this weekend,
21:32I know it's an energy-rich track,
21:34have been a lot more positive,
21:35even from the likes of Max Verstappen,
21:36who's been very vocal about it.
21:38Yeah, there's obviously been some tweaks made.
21:40I mean, I was just having a little chat
21:42with a colleague of ours from the TV world
21:43here in the paddock saying,
21:44I've been gone for a while.
21:45It feels like nothing has changed.
21:46And then I said, oh, no, hang on a second.
21:48Actually, everything's changed.
21:49And it is.
21:50There's a lot of technical jargon.
21:51There's a lot of numbers.
21:52There's a lot of stuff that actually,
21:53when you boil it down,
21:54sort of starts to make sense.
21:55So like Ted and Bellum very rightly put to us,
21:58but there were some things that needed to be ironed out.
22:00Formula One have clearly said that,
22:02you know, this wasn't the end game.
22:03They've got to tweak it.
22:04There's been a lot of changes
22:05and inevitably there's going to be growing pains.
22:07So they've made some tweaks.
22:08The drivers do seem to be happier,
22:10even though, as you say,
22:11this is a track that lends itself to harvesting.
22:13There's a lot of hard braking points,
22:14so easier to recharge the cars here.
22:16So let's see in a couple of races
22:17if we still feel the same way
22:18or if there's going to be further tweaks.
22:20Absolutely.
22:20I think everyone's keeping an eye on things
22:22and there will be improvements
22:24if improvements are needed.
22:25And I think that's what Max would say.
22:27It's a tickle,
22:28but he still needs more perhaps in the future.
22:31Well, watch this space.
22:32Talking of watching spaces,
22:34the space downtown was occupied
22:35by several very impressive McLarens on Wednesday
22:38and Rachel went down to have a look.
22:50Well, it was 1963
22:51when Bruce McLaren started the McLaren team,
22:54but I bet he never imagined scenes like this.
22:57Thousands of fans on the streets of Miami
22:59to see their F1 cars.
23:02That's Oscar Piastri
23:03in Lewis Hamilton's 2008 championship-winning car
23:07going around the streets here
23:09and showing it off in front of the fans.
23:11What a way to start race week here in Miami.
23:23It's cool just to celebrate the history
23:24and to be part of it,
23:26to feel like you're a small part of it is special,
23:28but also then to celebrate it with our fans,
23:29the people who kind of make it all happen
23:30in the end of the day.
23:31So it's a win-win,
23:32and it's nice to do it every now and then.
23:34You know, only 1% of the fans
23:36actually come to see Formula 1 around the world.
23:38So for those 99% that are diehard race fans
23:43but don't get a chance to meet the drivers,
23:45see the race cars,
23:46to be able to bring that to them.
23:47So it's something we want to do more of.
23:50Oscar's driving a Hamilton car.
23:52So for me, I'm like, damn,
23:54what a lucky guy.
23:54Did you lose a game of rock, paper, scissors for that?
23:56I said, should we now do a rock, paper, scissors?
23:58But he didn't want to do it, sadly.
24:00It's going to be cool.
24:01Obviously, it sounds awesome, that car.
24:02And, you know, for me,
24:04that's kind of just as I started to watch F1.
24:06So it's pretty special to be in that car.
24:13Formula 1, I mean, it's fast,
24:16it's gritty, it's sexy.
24:19That's Miami.
24:20Well, I'm a big Santa fan, Ayrton Santa.
24:23Oh, yeah.
24:23So I heard his car is coming,
24:25and McLaren's the best team.
24:26I started watching it,
24:28and I fell in love immediately,
24:29and Oscar and Lando, they caught my eye,
24:31so they became my favorite drivers.
24:32I think with McLaren,
24:34they've been able to bring the love back
24:36to the United States
24:37with a lot more events like this,
24:39so it's open to the public, open to people.
24:43What's this year been like?
24:44Because you came back into it as a world champion.
24:46Yeah.
24:47Yet your car isn't quite there to compete
24:49for the wins at the moment.
24:51Or is it, and you need to get used to it?
24:52Where does it sit?
24:54Well, I think Oscar proved
24:56that we have a decent car, for sure,
24:59and he had a very good chance of winning in Japan.
25:01I think that gave the whole team
25:03a bit of an extra kick, hopefully,
25:05but it was nice.
25:07I think, yeah,
25:09it's not been the easiest start to the year,
25:11obviously, with Melbourne and Shanghai.
25:14This is the worst possible start for McLaren.
25:18Suzuka was nice to get things back on track
25:20and at least be able to show our potential.
25:22How big do you think the gap is to Mercedes at the moment?
25:25And do you have a time frame
25:26on how soon you think you could close that gap to Mercedes?
25:29We have a decent amount of upgrades here in Miami.
25:32We will have a few more in Canada.
25:35And I think after Canada,
25:36we will see where we are compared to Mercedes,
25:39but also compared to Ferrari.
25:41And I think this will give us a measure
25:43of what is possible during this 2026 season.
25:47Have you had a go at Max about nicking GP yet?
25:50No.
25:51No, no, no.
25:53No.
25:54Not yet.
25:55No, I haven't.
25:56I mean, you know,
25:58it's, yeah, I don't know.
25:59I'm sure I will.
26:01What can you target then this weekend, realistically?
26:04Hopefully we can target being the second best team.
26:07I think that would be a good effort for us.
26:10I think Mercedes is still going to be too far ahead.
26:12We expect the upgrades for our car to be quicker,
26:14but, you know, we need,
26:16we need a lot to go and get Mercedes.
26:18So hopefully we can at least be ahead of Ferrari
26:21and kind of maintain that order.
26:24But we'll have to wait.
26:31Formula One has grown exponentially in recent times
26:34and nowhere is that more evident
26:37than here on the streets of Miami tonight.
26:46Yeah, some great cars in there.
26:48In your time in, uh, at McLaren,
26:50which of those did you drive?
26:52Which was your favourite?
26:53I drove a lot of great cars.
26:55A lot of Ayrton's cars, Alain's cars.
26:58But I also drove my cars,
27:00which are historic now.
27:02So, no, amazing collection of cars.
27:05Yeah, they really were.
27:06Yeah, let's pick up on GP
27:08because we talked about this yesterday,
27:09but we haven't today.
27:11Obviously a great signing for McLaren.
27:13You joined at the beginning of 2028.
27:15This is Max Verstappen's race engineer.
27:18What kind of a signing is he, do you think, for them?
27:21And what does it say about McLaren
27:23and their desire to keep on cherry-picking
27:25the best from up and down the paddock?
27:27Well, look, I think they've obviously seen
27:28something special in him that, you know,
27:30there's obviously this iconic duo of Max and GP,
27:33but it kind of is strange to see them come apart
27:35because it's like Robin and Batman.
27:37You can't imagine the two of them apart.
27:38But he's obviously done great things.
27:40He's been so successful here at Red Bull
27:42and at other teams before as well.
27:43I think what's going to be a challenge
27:45is obviously integrating into a new environment
27:47and he's got obviously two more years at Red Bull,
27:49so he's got some time to think about that.
27:50But yeah, McLaren have clearly proven
27:52to be an incredible environment
27:53for teams up and down the paddock
27:55and people are very interested
27:56in being a part of this team
27:57who's now won two consecutive world titles
27:59in the last two years.
28:00So it's a positive place to be
28:02and they're going to keep stealing talent
28:03from other places
28:04and they're only going to get quicker because of it.
28:06Well, Red Bull have had a bit of a brain drain,
28:07I think you can call it that.
28:08I mean, it happens, doesn't it,
28:09with all the best teams
28:10where when you have been the best
28:12then people will come and poach you.
28:13We talked to Lauren McKees with regards to GP.
28:16He said, look, I'm not going to stand in his way.
28:17No one can stand in his way
28:18because he's going somewhere
28:19to become team principal.
28:21Then we asked Zach for clarification.
28:23He said, no, no, no,
28:24he's not coming across as team principal.
28:27Thought it might have been lost in translation.
28:28We saw clarification from Red Bull.
28:31No, no, Lauren McKees believes
28:32he's going across as team principal.
28:35It's he said, he said at the moment.
28:37So you probably have to believe the team
28:38that he's going to.
28:39Either way, we know that he's going to go in
28:42and probably learn from Andrea Stella
28:44or at least take a little bit of a weight off him
28:47because he has to do so much.
28:48I know he stays across
28:49quite a lot of the technical aspects
28:50of the car as well.
28:52Yeah, exactly.
28:53I mean, it's a tricky one.
28:54It's great going up and down the pit lane
28:55and trying to pick the best people
28:57and trying to bring them into your team.
29:00But then you've also got to think of the people
29:02that have been there for 10, 15 years
29:04that have been, you know,
29:05slowly getting higher and higher up
29:07within McLaren.
29:09For example, the engineers in the team
29:10or the chief engineer,
29:11maybe they thought they'd have that role.
29:13So it's keeping everyone happy
29:15within a team as well
29:16and make sure you're plugging in
29:17those new individuals in the right way
29:19that the atmosphere is still good in the team.
29:21How's the culture?
29:22Just to come back to you,
29:23the culture that you saw
29:25probably in the latter days of Ron Dennis
29:28and then now since Zach has taken over
29:31and since they've kind of transformed,
29:32is it a different place, do you think?
29:35I don't really know it now.
29:36That's the thing in terms of behind the scenes.
29:38I do know what it was like
29:39and it was very strict
29:41in everything that we did.
29:43And I respected Ron for that
29:45because he built the team up
29:47from where it was
29:48and won multiple championships.
29:50But I also love this era of it.
29:51It's a bit more relaxed.
29:53Zach, obviously,
29:53a super fan of Formula One as a whole
29:55and I think that's a great leader.
29:57A bit more colourful, isn't it?
29:58The transition to Papaya
30:00which has been around now
30:01for a number of years
30:03compared to the grey of old
30:05and certainly they've enjoyed the upgrades
30:07that they brought here to Miami.
30:08We're going to discuss Ferrari
30:09when we come back
30:10as we begin to build
30:11towards qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix
30:14under half an hour to go
30:15until cars on track.
30:16Don't go anywhere.
30:30We saw a video of you
30:32in Japan, I believe it was.
30:33You were sitting in the cockpit.
30:34You had your eyes closed, helmet on,
30:36holding the steering wheel
30:37and sort of visualising
30:38your way through the lap.
30:40Put your hands up.
30:41Can you take me
30:43to a lap of the Miami
30:44International Autodrome?
30:46Oh, sure I can.
30:48Okay, there you go.
30:49Start, finish line.
30:52Braking for turn one,
30:53going to second gear,
30:55going on throttle,
30:57very difficult turn two and three.
30:58Quite a lot of snaps actually
31:00out of three very often.
31:01I'm in the middle of the straight
31:03before turn four.
31:04I'm going into turn four now.
31:06Five, six, seven, eight.
31:09Very difficult to get the apex in eight
31:11because all the tyres are,
31:12they're hitting a lot.
31:13Now I'm on the way to turn nine.
31:15It's a very long straight.
31:16Yeah, okay.
31:17So we can add brake.
31:19Yeah, I can see.
31:21Think about the flowers
31:21we're going to buy Alex later.
31:23Yeah, exactly.
31:24I've got a flashback actually
31:25from last year
31:25on the laps of the grids.
31:27Not a good flashback.
31:29Try to forget that.
31:30Going into turn 11 now.
31:33Braking.
31:34Very important to keep
31:35a lot of entry speed
31:36in this corner.
31:37Same for turn 12 actually.
31:40And then that's
31:41a very interesting part
31:42because you've got to be
31:43very close to the wall
31:43into turn 13.
31:45Take a little bit of apex
31:46for turn 14
31:47but not too much either.
31:48Otherwise the car starts
31:49bumping around.
31:5116, good exit.
31:55Long straight.
31:56Okay.
31:57I think I'm on a good lap now.
31:59Okay, really?
32:00It's really interesting
32:00that you can do this
32:01while also chatting to me
32:02and you're still counting.
32:04Well, you'll compare it then.
32:06Okay.
32:07Braking for turn 17 now.
32:09Taking, using the apex
32:11is very important
32:11to get the rotation right.
32:13Good exit.
32:14Very poor grip on exit there.
32:16Okay.
32:17And I'll say finish.
32:27Wow.
32:28That's impressive.
32:30Four seconds out.
32:31Four and a bit seconds out
32:32just doing it
32:33whilst having a full
32:35conversation with you now.
32:36I'm not saying you'd have
32:37put him off
32:37but you know,
32:39you can do that.
32:40But I mean,
32:40that visualization,
32:42actually,
32:43I mean,
32:43it was really fascinating
32:44to see that.
32:44Were you able to do that?
32:45Were you able to kind of
32:46sync up and know exactly
32:48when you're doing it
32:49track by track?
32:50Like an exercise you did?
32:51Yeah, it was.
32:52I always used to do it
32:53before qualifying.
32:54It obviously didn't work
32:55so I didn't qualify that well.
32:56But every shift as well.
32:58Every shift you took
32:59you could feel.
32:59But I'm sure there's
33:00a lot of people
33:01that really enjoyed
33:02that video out there.
33:03Charles Leclerc
33:04with his eyes closed
33:04with a little smile
33:05on his face
33:06for like almost two minutes,
33:07right?
33:08It's amazing.
33:10Anyway.
33:11Depending on how
33:12you're looking at it.
33:12Yeah, I suppose.
33:13But yeah,
33:14I mean,
33:14he's really impressive.
33:15They were impressive as they.
33:17We've just lost you.
33:18Oh, God.
33:19I won't tell you
33:20I said that.
33:21But yeah,
33:22pick up on how he was
33:23in sprint qualifying yesterday
33:25because again,
33:26we'll just go back to it
33:27on the mediums
33:28which you have to do
33:29for the first two parts
33:30of qualifying.
33:31Great.
33:32And then
33:33it's now,
33:34it now looks like
33:35it's similar conditions
33:36to where it was yesterday
33:37on the softs.
33:38It wasn't quite there for them.
33:40They'll,
33:40I've had to have addressed
33:41that weren't they for this.
33:42Well, look,
33:43I don't,
33:43it's relatively,
33:44well,
33:44you obviously can't change
33:45the weather, can you?
33:46But there are some things
33:47you can do.
33:48Tire pressure is one of them.
33:49But the drivers
33:49have been mentioning
33:50that this is one
33:51of those circuits
33:51where they do kind of
33:52have this all four wheel
33:53sliding.
33:54And you could tell
33:54that yesterday
33:55he was just struggling
33:56to get the car stopped,
33:57struggling to get it
33:58rotated and get back on.
33:59So lost a little bit
34:00at the end of the lap
34:00there, Charles.
34:02But, you know,
34:03I think what's great
34:04with these weekends
34:05is they do get a full reset.
34:06And they brought
34:07a huge amount
34:08of upgrades this weekend.
34:09It's obviously not proven
34:10to deliver exactly
34:11what they expected
34:12as a whole.
34:12But let's wait
34:13and see now this session
34:14if they can extract
34:15a little bit more
34:16out of the car.
34:16I mean,
34:17he still did finish
34:18in front of the Mercedes.
34:19So when you look at it,
34:20it's actually still impressive
34:22and he was in touch
34:22with one of the McLarens
34:23as well.
34:24But, you know,
34:24today's different in qualifying
34:25because they get a couple
34:26more runs,
34:27don't they?
34:27So whatever happens
34:28on that first set of softs
34:29in Q3,
34:30they can work on it
34:31and hopefully improve it.
34:32So I expect
34:33it'll be closer.
34:33The most upgrades
34:34of everyone.
34:35Come on in, Si,
34:36and have a quick look
34:37at the front of this car.
34:38It's really impressive.
34:38I mean,
34:38obviously they're always
34:40trying to outwash
34:41these things.
34:41And that front,
34:42we're just talking
34:43about the front wing
34:44and what they've done
34:44with the end plates there.
34:45Just one of many upgrades here.
34:47But they're striking this year
34:50and strikingly different
34:51to what we saw
34:52in 2025 and beforehand.
34:54Yeah,
34:54it's such a good looking car,
34:56isn't it?
34:56I mean,
34:56it's not just the color
34:58or because it's a Ferrari,
34:59but looking at the lines on it
35:01and there's a lot of effort
35:03that's gone into
35:04minute details,
35:05which is a big thing
35:06considering we're so early on
35:07in the sort of development
35:08race of these wrecks.
35:10Well done,
35:11Lewis,
35:11two so far this weekend.
35:13Yeah,
35:13he's obviously been trailing
35:14a little bit behind
35:15his teammates.
35:16Seems like yesterday
35:17he had some sort of issues
35:19with the software,
35:20so that was apparently
35:21worth three tenths of a second.
35:22Let's see now
35:23if he can reset
35:24and gain a little bit
35:24more out of it.
35:25But just to say
35:26on these cars,
35:27I mean,
35:27I've been watching from home
35:28for a little while now
35:29and to get up
35:29and close with them,
35:30they do look so much
35:31more racy.
35:32I mean,
35:32they are smaller,
35:33they look just quick,
35:35a lot better.
35:35It looks really good.
35:36I mean,
35:36it's not much,
35:37is it?
35:37But it just has made
35:38a massive difference.
35:41Right,
35:41talking about attention
35:42to detail,
35:43let's head to the SkyPad.
35:45The Ghost Car
35:46is ready
35:47from Sprint Qualifying.
35:49The first time
35:49we've seen the Ghost Car
35:50this weekend.
35:51All yours, crew.
35:54Thank you, Simon.
35:55I hear you've
35:56brought back
35:57your head of aerodynamics
35:58of Sky F1
35:59with all that
35:59front-wing chat.
36:00Very good.
36:01Let's take a look
36:01at Kimi Antonelli
36:03and the Ghost Car
36:04of Lando Norris.
36:06Now,
36:06what was interesting
36:07for me yesterday
36:08through the first corner,
36:09pretty similar.
36:10Now watch the Ghost Car.
36:12Watch the McLaren
36:13disappear off
36:14down the street.
36:15And this is because
36:16McLaren opted to use
36:18a different deployment setting.
36:20They opted to use
36:20more of the electrical
36:21energy
36:21early in the lap
36:23in that first sector.
36:24And you can just see
36:25how that's pulled
36:26Lando away
36:27from Kimi here.
36:28It's about four-tenths
36:29of a second
36:30in that early part.
36:31But as we get
36:32through this section
36:33of the track,
36:33you can see
36:34the Mercedes
36:35starts to come back.
36:36That high-speed balance
36:37still very good.
36:38Slightly different
36:39track usage.
36:40I'll just move it here
36:41as we switch on board
36:42to Lando.
36:43Play it along
36:44as we get into
36:45the entry of Turn A.
36:47Just look at his
36:48positioning.
36:49Tighter
36:49compared to where
36:50Kimi is.
36:51So a slightly
36:51different line.
36:52Kimi does carry
36:54a bit more speed
36:54and catches up.
36:55So he lost a bit
36:57in that straight line
36:57bit in the early part.
36:59Then in the section
36:59from four to eight,
37:00he's pulled so back.
37:01Now the Mercedes
37:02is going to deploy
37:03more energy,
37:04a bit more power
37:04because they've saved
37:05it early on.
37:06And watch.
37:06And as he draws up
37:08behind the McLaren
37:09on the entry
37:10to Turn 12.
37:12Underbraking
37:12through here,
37:13slightly different lines.
37:14Kimi was a little bit wider.
37:16Then you get the long
37:16right-hander
37:17off 12
37:18and up into the chicane.
37:20Now earlier on,
37:21Jensen and I
37:22were just looking
37:22at Lando.
37:23I'm going to show
37:24everyone who maybe
37:25didn't see the coverage
37:26earlier for the sprint.
37:27Look at that.
37:28Look at the judgment
37:29up against the wall.
37:30And I'm going to stick
37:31with Lando
37:31just to show you
37:32the entry to 16
37:33because he actually
37:34went out of that chicane
37:36and bounced off that curb
37:37a bit too much.
37:38He ended up
37:39a little bit wider,
37:40I think,
37:40than he would have liked.
37:41And that meant
37:42when he gets to
37:43the left-hander's 16,
37:44watch the front left,
37:46there's a little bit
37:47of under-rotation
37:47and he missed
37:48the inside curb
37:50by a fraction.
37:51That would have
37:51compromised his run
37:52onto the back straight.
37:54But he's still in front.
37:55As you can see,
37:56he's still got that gap
37:57that he built
37:57early in the lap.
37:58Now watch Antonelli
37:59come back at him
38:01a little bit
38:01in the final part
38:02of the straight.
38:02Again,
38:03Mercedes saving up
38:04a little bit of energy
38:05for the final part.
38:07But it wasn't enough.
38:08The gain that Lando made,
38:10he gained four tenths
38:11in the first part
38:12of the lap,
38:13as I said before.
38:14Kimi pulled back
38:15two across
38:16the rest of the lap.
38:17So I'd be interested
38:18to see as we head
38:19into Grand Prix qualifying
38:20coming up
38:20whether Mercedes,
38:22the works Mercedes team,
38:23have listened
38:24and learned something
38:25from their customers
38:26at McLaren
38:27and do it
38:28a bit differently here.
38:29Let's see how it plays out.
38:31Yeah, I mean,
38:33you tell me,
38:34Jenson,
38:34I mean,
38:34whether or not,
38:35I mean,
38:35the characteristics
38:36of the car
38:36will probably determine
38:38when you'd prefer
38:39to be maximizing
38:41the deployment,
38:42but do you think
38:42they'll have learned
38:43from what Lando did
38:44and will try
38:45the same sort of thing
38:46or is it not
38:46going to be different
38:47garage by garage?
38:48Yeah, Mercedes has already
38:49come out and said
38:50that they see
38:51what McLaren did
38:52and they did a better job.
38:54So they will learn
38:55from that
38:55and it'll be interesting
38:56to see the differences
38:57in qualifying.
38:58But I love having
38:59the ghost car for that
39:00because we did a side-by-side
39:01earlier,
39:02but you couldn't really
39:02see the difference.
39:03But it's a big difference
39:04and it's amazing
39:05how McLaren
39:06were the ones
39:07to find that advantage
39:08over the works team Mercedes.
39:10There's a nice analogy
39:11that you guys
39:12were using in practice,
39:13actually.
39:13It's about like
39:14Mercedes built the laptop.
39:17McLaren have got to
39:17understand the laptop.
39:20In very latest terms.
39:22But that's it, isn't it?
39:23And it only took them
39:23perhaps Australia.
39:25They didn't really know
39:26what was going on then.
39:26But after that,
39:27very quickly
39:28they got on top of things.
39:29They did.
39:29And I actually had a conversation
39:30with Alex Elbin
39:31and he was describing
39:32how, unfortunately for them,
39:34obviously Mercedes
39:34is working on this power unit
39:35for a long time
39:36before the customers
39:37get delivered it.
39:38But not only that,
39:39they develop it in a way
39:40that suits the car
39:41that they know
39:42that they're building,
39:42in a way that suits
39:44the drivers that they've got
39:45and the driving style
39:46that they have.
39:46So for them,
39:47as Jensen says,
39:48to be able to come here
39:49and outperform them
39:50on their own equipment,
39:52pretty impressive
39:53if you've got to give it to them.
39:53OK, let's pick up
39:55on one of the stories
39:55from Sprint Qualifying.
39:56A DNS for two drivers.
39:59Arvid Lindblad
39:59had a clutch issue
40:00but then this
40:01was Nico Alkenberg.
40:03His garage beforehand
40:04there was a leak
40:05and then we saw this,
40:07the smoke coming out the back.
40:08Then flames,
40:09he pulled over
40:11and I wonder
40:12what damage was done.
40:13Obviously,
40:14a lot of work
40:15for the mechanics to do.
40:17Let's head down there now.
40:18What is the state of play
40:20in Hulk's side
40:21of the garage, Ted?
40:24Well,
40:25thank you very much, Simon.
40:26Well,
40:26let's see if you can read
40:27Nico Alkenberg,
40:28the look on Nico Alkenberg's face.
40:31The state of play
40:32is it's a race against time.
40:33A good old-fashioned
40:34Formula One
40:34race against time.
40:35So it wasn't helped
40:37by the fact
40:38that they couldn't
40:38get the chassis back.
40:39They couldn't get
40:40Hulk's car back
40:41until after the sprint race.
40:43So it was a good
40:4440, 45 minutes
40:45before the slightly
40:47burnt out wreckage
40:48of the Audi
40:49was delivered
40:49on a low loader
40:50back to this garage.
40:52Then,
40:52about 25 mechanics
40:53have got to work.
40:54I'm seeing a lot of mechanics
40:55from Gabriel Bortoletto's
40:57side of the garage
40:58trying to fix this car.
41:00They've changed the power unit.
41:01They've changed
41:03everything else.
41:04You can see
41:05they were just about
41:06I thought they were
41:07just about ready
41:07but then some of the panels
41:08are getting put back on
41:10and the floor had to come off
41:11for something else.
41:12So I believe
41:13the floor is being put back on.
41:15Nico Alkenberg
41:15is just talking to his engineer
41:16trying to stay calm
41:17trying to assume
41:18that they're going to get this
41:19get this fixed.
41:21So I would imagine
41:22looking at it
41:23given that
41:24qualifying one
41:25is longer than
41:25sprint qualifying one
41:26they've got a decent job.
41:27I'd give them
41:28better than
41:29I'd give them
41:29probably a 60% chance
41:30of getting this job done
41:31which would be
41:32impressive work
41:33boys and girls at Audi.
41:35Yeah, it would indeed
41:36and actually
41:37they've just been
41:38outside of the top 10
41:39most weekends actually
41:41that Audi is
41:42bearing in mind
41:43you know
41:43first time
41:44first season
41:45in Formula 1
41:46and that's
41:47they've done well.
41:48They have done well.
41:49I mean we can't ignore
41:49the fact that
41:50Sauber prior to
41:51when it became Audi
41:52was already starting
41:54to develop
41:55much better form
41:55last season
41:56particularly
41:57so they've obviously
41:57brought that on board
41:59they've brought
41:59that momentum
42:00into the season
42:01but as you say
42:01to be just outside
42:02of the top 10
42:03is really great
42:03performance for them
42:04and such an unfortunate
42:05thing for him
42:06to happen there
42:06and it's not just
42:07a classic engine failure
42:08ride
42:09it's the flames
42:09as well
42:10that creates
42:10an even more damage
42:12that they've got
42:12to get done
42:12so I hope for them
42:13that they'll be able
42:13to get that car together.
42:14Okay, let's throw it
42:15forward then
42:16to qualifying now.
42:17Are we expecting
42:18a repeat of sprint qualifying
42:20or do we think
42:20there's going to be
42:21some differences out there?
42:22I think it's going
42:23to be a lot closer
42:24than what we saw
42:24in sprint qualifying.
42:25I think both drivers
42:26from each team
42:27are going to be
42:28closer together
42:29so it should be
42:30a big fight
42:30for that pole position.
42:32I couldn't pick anyone.
42:33Could you?
42:34No, but that man
42:35has to be the favourite
42:36after the way
42:37that he's driven
42:37so far this weekend.
42:39Lando Norris
42:39took a commanding
42:41sprint qualifying pole
42:44and then converted
42:45that pole
42:46into victory.
42:47Will Max Beer
42:48threat?
42:48About to find out.
42:50Look at him.
42:57We're hearing
42:58the Bahrain
42:59and Saudi Arabia
43:00Grand Prix
43:01have been cancelled.
43:05After five weeks
43:06off, Formula One
43:07has reset
43:08and returns
43:09here in Miami.
43:11Listen up,
43:12you punk.
43:13You better watch us.
43:19Watch.
43:19You better watch your step.
43:21You better watch your step.
43:23I think everyone's
43:24excited to be back
43:25at work.
43:26It's been a long
43:27few weeks.
43:28You better watch your step.
43:29You better listen up,
43:31punk.
43:31I'm going to tell you what.
43:32Better sit down,
43:33better keep your mouth shut.
43:35It's been too long.
43:36I was playing
43:36with the Skeletrics
43:37and I was missing
43:37Formula One so much.
43:39Straight chiller
43:40with the Airpoint gang
43:41in my low legs.
43:42Don't get out
43:43from right off track
43:44like a runner-weep straight.
43:45Watch your step.
43:46Don't get in my lane.
43:47It's been a long gap
43:49and I hope the teams
43:49have put it to good use.
43:50Watch.
43:51You better watch your step.
43:53You better watch your step.
43:54You better watch.
43:55You better watch your step.
43:57You better watch your step.
43:59You better watch.
44:00We are back this weekend
44:02and we're back with a vengeance.
44:08We are back with a vengeance.

48:24The teams say they've discovered a problem.
48:27I think it's to do with the fact that they have some issue actually satisfying the rules
48:32because Bortoletto has been disqualified from the sprint race
48:36for his car exceeding the engine air intake pressure,
48:40the allowed engine air intake pressure.
48:42You're only allowed 4.8 bar of it,
48:44and if you go over it, obviously, then you're getting more charge, more air, more power,
48:48and that's not allowed.
48:50So Audi don't really understand why that is.
48:53So as you can see from those pictures, there's a chassis there, but no rear end, no engine.
48:59So they're investigating it, but they can't really send Gabriel Bortoletto out into qualifying
49:04while not knowing exactly what the problem is.
49:07So there was a good reason.
49:08I didn't quite notice that Bortoletto's car didn't have an engine on it,
49:11and he was sat there in a chair because I was focused on Nico Hülkenberg,
49:14who, ironically, is in the car and I think is going to qualify,
49:17but his team-mate Bortoletto isn't.
49:19So on the one hand, good news after Nico Hülkenberg's engine failure.
49:23On the other hand, bad news.
49:25What the Lord giveth, he taketh away.
49:26It's amazing to get that much pressure, isn't it, in the intake.
49:304.8 bar, I mean, one bar is atmospheric pressure.
49:331,012 millibars.
49:35So, yeah, 1,000 millibars, basically, isn't it?
49:38So it's surprising, it's amazing they can get with the design of those air boxes
49:43just over the driver's heads are pivotal to not just the aerodynamics of the car,
49:49but, of course, energising the engine.
49:521,012 bars.
49:53Sounds like a good night out to me.
49:55International standard atmosphere is 1,012 millibars,
49:57but, of course, a bar must be 1,000 millibars I'm going to receive.
50:00Thank you, Professor.
50:02I like it.
50:02Captain, I think you mean.
50:05Yes, all right, oi, oi, skipper.
50:07So, we normally lose six cars,
50:09but we still are going to lose six cars from the first part of qualifying,
50:12but of those six cars, one of them's already gone.
50:14That's Gabriel Bortoletto, who won't be coming out.
50:17That means that it'll be 14 apiece in their Grand Prix qualifying battle
50:21as teammates between Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoletto.
50:25Who else is likely to be on the receiving end of an early day
50:29in terms of qualifying?
50:30The two Aston Martins, you would imagine, the two Cadillacs,
50:32and then, well, it could be up for grabs a little bit
50:34because Williams have looked a little bit better.
50:36Haas maybe have been drawn into that Williams battle a touch.
50:40It could be nip and tug, yeah?
50:41Absolutely.
50:42And two drivers who I think would be very unhappy after the sprint race
50:46would have been George Russell, Mercedes,
50:47and his former teammate Lewis Hamilton in the second Ferrari
50:51who was well over 20 seconds behind in a 19-lap race.
50:54So, he was not happy with the way his car was using its tyres.
50:59So, they're two drivers that would have made some changes.
51:01The Ferrari Sporting Director walked past me in the paddock.
51:05I said, Lewis, tyres?
51:06He went...
