00:10Summers are brutal with the heat.
00:13It'll melt your shoes, your skin, it'll tear you up for sure.
00:18If it's too hot outside, the bad guys don't want to go out and commit crimes.
00:22When the nighttime comes, the freaks come out.
00:26Put your pants off!
00:28When that's undone, people think they can hide the bad stuff in the dark.
00:31This is the I don't believe in Facebook.
00:34One team, one family, we always pull together.
00:39Get a bunch of bags!
00:41What the f*** am I in handcuffs for?
00:45It's very dangerous.
00:46Backup isn't always closed.
00:50Get out of my emergency.
00:52You're gonna kill me.
00:54Assaults, robberies, shootings.
00:57It's lawless out here.
00:58It's gonna get hot tonight.
00:59A little bit of spice is always good.
01:01Stop having sex.
01:02Put your jeans on.
01:04Be in the wild, wild west, Tucson.
01:07It's the witching hour.
01:08Don't tap out on us yet, okay?
01:31Usual common practice for me, I like to just check license plates.
01:34You'll never know if, uh, you'll end up finding something weird.
01:39So, this guy's plate is showing suspended.
01:45So, that is definitely a violation.
01:47I'm just gonna pull him over right now.
01:49Now, he's just swerved into a parking lot.
02:00Hi, so I'm Deputy Poole with the, uh, Sheriff's Department.
02:03Always the way I'm talking to you right now is because, uh, license plate that you have
02:06on the back is telling me that the, uh, plate is suspended for some reason.
02:09Is it?
02:10Do you have your license, registration?
02:13Okay.
02:14How are you doing?
02:15Hey, doing all right.
02:17Sun's down, it's getting cooler, so, you know, it puts me, it puts me in a good mood, okay?
02:21What is your name, sir?
02:24Any alcohol, any drugs, or anything else tonight?
02:26All right.
02:29All right, we're just gonna walk right here.
02:31All right, if I just pass you down real quick, make sure you don't have anything, okay?
02:34It's the wild west, man, I can never tell nowadays, okay?
02:36So, I'll have you just stand right here facing me, okay?
02:39So, important things to remember for this test, make sure you watch your foot at all times.
02:42Ready?
02:42Go ahead and begin.
02:45Watch your foot.
02:46Oh, my God.
02:50Go ahead and stop.
02:52It's hard.
02:53It's hard to keep your balance like that, man.
02:56Close your eyes.
02:58And start.
03:00He performed very poorly on every sobriety test that I gave him.
03:03I observed that he's, uh, sweating profusely, uh, his pupils are dilated,
03:07his eyes are watery, red, and bloodshot.
03:10The impairment that I'm seeing tonight, I don't suspect is as a result of alcohol.
03:14I suspect it's because of drugs.
03:17Uh, could you just remind me of your name one more time?
03:21Okay, what's the last four of your social?
03:22Uh, honestly, I don't know my memory.
03:24How old are you?
03:2637.
03:27And you don't know your social?
03:29Not my memory.
03:30I'm sorry, man.
03:31All right.
03:32Go ahead and turn it up.
03:33Put your hands on your back for me.
03:39You are lying to me, you know that?
03:42How come you're not telling me who you really are?
03:46So, yeah, let's just pretend that I know who you really are.
03:50Okay?
03:51So in that reality, how come you don't want to tell me your real name?
03:54Because I have a warrant.
03:55Okay.
03:56Well, now let's be honest with each other, okay?
03:57What's your real first and last name?
04:00Okay, so what's your warrant for?
04:06Okay.
04:07I knew you were lying to me from the get-go, man.
04:09Because you know the real was just in jail recently?
04:13Okay.
04:14Are you related?
04:15Okay.
04:17So, what was your reason for taking his identity?
04:20Were you trying to get out of trouble?
04:22You understand how serious of a crime it is to take somebody's identity to avoid jail time?
04:27Okay.
04:28Well, you know now.
04:29Okay.
04:29How much coke have you done today?
04:34Okay.
04:35You're sweating profusely right now.
04:37Your eyes and your performance and everything else is telling me something different, okay?
04:41I love it.
04:41I was just nervous.
04:43I'm nervous.
04:43I just didn't want to go to jail.
04:45Okay.
04:45Well, if you told me your real name, we probably would have had, like, a different outcome.
04:50You understand that?
04:52Okay.
04:52Any drugs, anything I'm going to find on you?
04:55Okay.
04:56How much weed have you smoked today?
04:57I haven't smoked today.
04:59Okay.
04:59But you just happen to have this in your pocket just for giggles then?
05:02It's a weed, babe.
05:05When I'm checking his license right now, it's telling me that his license status is even suspended
05:10too because of a previous DUI.
05:14At this point in time, okay, you are under arrest at least for, you know, failing to provide
05:17me a truthful name, okay?
05:18As well as assuming the identity of another person, okay?
05:21100%, yeah.
05:22That's what happens when you lie to cops.
05:23You go to jail.
05:25See, because, like, the biggest thing is you don't have that big of a scar like your brother
05:29has right here.
05:31Yeah.
05:34Oh, I didn't know you guys.
05:35At any point, did you have any remorse at all?
05:37At any point, did you want to tell me the truth?
05:40Okay.
05:40So, I'm also going to be charging you tonight for DUI as well, okay?
05:43In addition to the identity theft stuff, okay?
05:46So, I'm going to have you sitting in that car over there.
05:49He turned what could have been just a simple misdemeanor now into a felony right now because
05:53he's lying to avoid jail time.
05:55He's assuming somebody else's identity, providing false information, in addition to discovering
06:01he has a warrant for his arrest, as well as his license status being suspended for DUI.
06:06And I suspect that he's under the influence of possibly cocaine.
06:10All right.
06:11Oh, you all right?
06:13No, I'm laying down under.
06:14You're taking a nap?
06:15Yeah.
06:16Okay.
06:17So, your warrant's not even extraditable?
06:19No?
06:19No.
06:20So, I lied for nothing?
06:22Pretty much.
06:23Wow.
06:23How does that make you feel?
06:24It makes me feel like a ****.
06:26All right.
06:33In the span of one hour, one drug driver, removed from the road, charged with two felonies.
06:40I was just genuinely curious at what point in time he thought he was going to get away
06:43with everything.
06:47I've had many instances of identity theft before.
06:51We need to be on our toes.
06:53We need to be vigilant.
06:58Theft is rampant right now.
07:00You can't go in a store and not see somebody shoplifting.
07:04And we have to get serious about prosecuting these repeat offenders.
07:10Out here in the desert, we have a lot of low-light neighborhoods, not a lot of streetlights
07:15running through those neighborhoods.
07:16People think that they're able to move around completely unseen, undetected.
07:19The low-income areas, it's very constant where people are stealing and just trying to get
07:27ahead in life.
07:27Because when they start making those mistakes and committing those crimes, a theft, burglary,
07:32robbery, whatever it may be.
07:35As I kind of drive into the district, that's when I start looking for crime occurring.
07:51I don't know what is the location of your emergency.
07:54A couple of weeks ago, a guy stole all my tools at my house.
07:57And you think that the person's back in the area?
07:59Yes, and I just saw the guy trying to steal.
08:02And on the next street to my house, he stole a white male wearing a black shirt.
08:07And I think he was wearing jeans.
08:08And he has like a horseback.
08:11This guy told the dispatch that he had made a report about this guy that stole a bunch
08:16of tools from him.
08:18I guess the guy came back to either steal more stuff.
08:21Sounds like the guy that stole the stuff is a white male wearing a black hat, black shirt
08:28and jeans.
08:29We're going to go check out the park and see if he's over there.
08:34Hey, come here.
08:36Let me talk to you for a minute.
08:38Everyone male, black over blue.
08:40Everything all right?
08:42I'm good, but I just apologize.
08:43I'm waiting to call to my mom.
08:44I told her she was on the way home.
08:45She said, just wait.
08:46I'm homeless.
08:47I just barely got into town.
08:48Okay.
08:49But I don't know where her house is, and I'm waiting for her to come.
08:52You have your ID on your man?
08:53I don't.
08:54I hate that.
08:54That's hypermint.
08:55Want to call the police was on?
08:57Yeah, they said that he might be doing some weird stuff, so we're just making sure.
09:00I'm doing some weird stuff?
09:01Yeah, we're just making sure.
09:01I can follow up.
09:02Okay.
09:0420 seconds.
09:06Hey, favorite.
09:07Take your hands back.
09:09Am I being arrested?
09:10First of all, you're not being arrested.
09:11So why am I being detained?
09:12Let go of your stuff.
09:13Why am I being detained?
09:14Because of the drug care failure in your hand.
09:15That's why.
09:16All right.
09:17See, but I'm not being arrested.
09:18Why am I being detained?
09:19This is against the law, right?
09:20Do you know that, right?
09:20Okay.
09:21You know it's against the law, right?
09:22It's not against the law.
09:23Absolutely, you know.
09:24All right.
09:24We'll sort all this out in just a second, man.
09:26I'm not doing nothing against the law.
09:28Okay.
09:29And I ain't got no warrant for nothing, so y'all are being hella aggressive and way out of line
09:32about this, okay?
09:33And I know my rights, okay?
09:35You guys are treating me like I'm a criminal, dog.
09:37This is wrong, bro.
09:39Stop pushing on me.
09:40I'm not going nowhere, dog.
09:41You're hurting my hand, dog.
09:42I'm not doing nothing wrong.
09:43That's tense up, man.
09:44Just relax.
09:45I'm not tense up.
09:46You are tense up.
09:48You won't feel my other hand.
09:49He's over here twisting my up and down.
09:50This is what I did here to tell you.
09:52You're all right.
09:53You're being arrested for the arrest of a drug fare penalty?
09:58What was that?
09:58Crespassing and possession of a drug.
09:59Hang tight, man.
10:06They're going to bring the original report to you over here so that they can see the subject
10:11that we have obtained.
10:12We call this a show up.
10:14We'll just be sitting in a patrol vehicle so that they can have a clear visual of the suspect
10:19and they can confirm for us whether or not that's the person that was stealing stuff.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Yeah.
10:29They did end up just getting their positive ID on our suspect, so that's always nice.
10:44So the initial report referenced this outstanding suspect was that he had actually committed
10:49a theft about a week prior where he's stolen approximately $1,000 worth of power tools from
10:54our victim here.
10:55That same victim spotted the suspect again in a nearby neighbor's yard attempting to
10:59steal a bike from that yard.
11:01When he tried to confront the guy, he ran off to the park here, which is where deputies were
11:04able to locate him.
11:19Knowing that you were able to fully service that member of the public that needed our assistance,
11:24it does give you a pretty fulfilled feeling and in a very, very quick manner, you know.
11:29It didn't have to take, you know, a week of investigation or, you know, months or something like that.
11:36It is a really great feeling.
11:37You don't always get to have it, though.
11:54Tonight's been quite quiet, but I've definitely seen how a quiet night can go from zero to
12:00a hundred in an instant.
12:03That car looks completely blacked out from the back.
12:19He's a, that was just a single, it's a car stunt.
12:22Get back in the car now.
12:24Get back in the car.
12:31Turn the car off.
12:33Put your hands out the window.
12:37Why are you trying to get out the car?
12:42Keep both your hands out the window.
12:46Sir, I swear to God, I was not trying to jump out.
12:49I swear to God, I was...
12:50Get out.
12:52Keep both your hands out the window.
12:53Get out.
12:55Sir, I have no weapons, no nothing in the car.
12:58Get out.
13:00Sir, I only jumped out because I just...
13:03You got anything on you?
13:05Nothing.
13:05Nothing.
13:06Nothing.
13:08Sir, I only jumped out because I just crashed my damn car.
13:12I don't want to go.
13:14All right.
13:15Get over there and stand back there by my car.
13:17Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
13:18Can I just look real quick?
13:22Oh.
13:24Don't walk in, don't walk in.
13:26Don't walk in.
13:27So let me explain to you why I pulled you over.
13:29As soon as you left that neighborhood back there and started flooring it, you were completely blacked out from the
13:33rear.
13:34And I've been trying to catch up to you since before I turned onto this first initial road.
13:38Were you even aware of that?
13:40I was not aware of that.
13:41Have you had anything to drink tonight?
13:43Beer.
13:43Just one beer?
13:44I had more than one beer.
13:46Okay, how many beers have you had?
13:48I had more than one beer.
13:49Okay.
13:50So my next question is would you be willing to do some field sobriety tests?
13:53Absolutely not.
13:54No?
13:54Cool.
13:55Put your hands behind your back.
13:55You're under arrest for DUI.
13:56Okay.
13:57Okay.
13:58Okay.
13:59You don't have to be rough.
14:00I, I, I, I, I'm complaining.
14:02Yeah, I'm complaining.
14:03.
14:13I guess his car got stuck when he pulls over.
14:15He goes to get out the car.
14:17Stuff like that is like indicators that you're either going to get into a shooting or somebody's
14:21going to run.
14:22He kind of turned his body towards me, which is why I drew my handgun and pointed it at
14:26him and gave him commands to get back inside the car.
14:29I can tell he's heavily intoxicated.
14:31He doesn't want to do field sobriety tests.
14:34So based off the driving behaviors, him not realizing the lights were off, him kind of swerving
14:39a little bit inside out the lanes, his slurred speech, the strong odor of the toxicants from
14:44his breath and the way he was immediately losing his balance as soon as I got him out
14:48the car.
14:49Those are just telltale signs that he's under the influence.
14:58He's got a freshly opened beer right there in the center console.
15:01I didn't get in the car because I hit that ramp and I was in the rear of the car.
15:06Okay.
15:06But you do understand, it's no weapons, no drugs.
15:10Okay, but let me explain something to you.
15:12A completely blacked out car from the rear and as soon as I pull it over the driver try
15:16and hops out.
15:16If you were a cop and you don't know if you have drugs or guns, you wouldn't think that's
15:21a little suspicious too?
15:24Well, okay.
15:24Come on.
15:25Okay, okay.
15:26Come on.
15:26I'm sure you've seen the videos on social media where the guy jumps out of the driver's
15:30seat and starts shooting at the car.
15:31I've seen both sides.
15:33Exactly.
15:33So now you understand.
15:35Honestly, I've seen both sides.
15:36Okay.
15:37But as soon as you were cool with me and I got you out of the car, the gun went
15:39right
15:39back into the holster, right?
15:41Be good, be good, be good.
15:42Alright.
15:43Damn, bro, I stand by the corner and I'm just guilty of trying to go.
15:48They can get some .
15:51You're under arrest, okay?
15:52You're under arrest for aggravated DUI.
15:54The reason it is an aggravated DUI is because within the last seven years, you've had two
15:58prior arrests for DUI.
16:01You will be taken down to Pima Addict Detention Centre.
16:03We'll speak to a judge in the morning.
16:04Let's go.
16:05Oh.
16:32You are following the two
16:35911, where's your emergency?
16:37Hi, I'm traveling on West Valencia.
16:40I just got in a hand run.
16:41Someone crashed into me, told me to pull over, and he set off.
16:43He's in a truck.
16:45I'm following him.
16:46He's speeding.
16:47He's trying to escape from me.
16:49He's going way over 80, and the road is 45.
16:53Okay, well, I don't want to put yourself in any danger.
16:55Do you want to pull over?
16:56I want to make sure that I get this guy.
16:57Hi.
16:59Suspect vehicle is blocked.
17:00Truck north run on mark.
17:02Touch it.
17:05So it's a vehicle hit and run.
17:08She's saying a U-Haul hit her, and it's taking off,
17:11but she's following it.
17:16It is a U-Haul.
17:23Right for further behind the truck.
17:25I can't get this.
17:33Hi.
17:33What's going on?
17:34You got any weapons in the vehicle or anything?
17:36No.
17:37You do have weapons?
17:38No.
17:38I just have my armor.
17:40Just don't grab for it, though.
17:41Oh, yeah.
17:41What is it?
17:43Sir, don't grab for it.
17:47Don't reach in for it.
17:48Just tell me where it's at.
17:49Oh, it's right here.
17:50Okay, don't reach for it.
17:51Why would you reach for a gun?
17:53I'm not.
17:53Okay, come stand over here.
17:55So why didn't you stop?
17:57For what?
17:57You hit that vehicle over there.
17:59That's why she's...
18:00So you didn't realize you hit a vehicle?
18:03Okay.
18:04Do me a favor.
18:04Go stand in front of my patrol car.
18:06Can you stand with him?
18:08Don't let him go back in the car.
18:09He has a gun right there on the thing.
18:10Just hold this for a second.
18:11I'm going to see what she has to say.
18:12Cool.
18:13And ask him, like, about the U-Haul stuff.
18:15Because he's saying, like, he didn't know he hit her.
18:19Ma'am, so where did he hit you?
18:21In front of the Circle K that he rear-ended me.
18:23And I rolled down my window.
18:24I pulled over to the curb.
18:25I said, hey, can we talk about this at Circle K?
18:28And he was like, yeah, go, go, go.
18:29Oh, so he knew he hit you.
18:31He's dead.
18:31He did the dash.
18:32So she says that you said you were going to pull over
18:35and then you took off.
18:36What's the deal?
18:36No, I didn't.
18:37I didn't say any of that.
18:39OK.
18:39How long have you had this U-Haul?
18:40Like, yesterday.
18:42OK.
18:43Your license is suspended.
18:45You're not supposed to be driving.
18:47Why do you have a truck?
18:48Well, obviously, I'm moving.
18:50OK.
18:50Well, I don't know that.
18:51I'm just asking.
18:52Well, I wouldn't have a U-Haul to be joyriding in it.
18:55You'd be surprised what people do.
18:57So he's just going to get a citation for hit and run
19:01and then for driving off suspended.
19:03You guys, somebody?
19:03Is there a way I can get my phone?
19:05I'll make a call.
19:06Yeah.
19:07Is there someone that you can call to come get it?
19:10Yeah, I could call somebody.
19:12Your friend?
19:12Yeah.
19:13Hold on.
19:13There's a gun in the car.
19:14Why are you letting you go back over there?
19:18Thanks, man.
19:19Huh?
19:20I'm trying to get in the car real bad.
19:21Who?
19:22I know.
19:23I'm trying to get away from you.
19:24Why?
19:24Because I don't like police.
19:26You don't like police?
19:26Not really.
19:28He pushed us.
19:29I almost rear-ended someone else.
19:30Like, it was almost a pile-up.
19:31And he for sure said, like, he knew.
19:33Yeah, he waved at me and he pointed.
19:35And I said, are you sure?
19:36And I was pulled in the side on the curb.
19:38And I said, are you sure?
19:39Let's go right here.
19:39And he said, yeah, yeah.
19:40Go, go, go.
19:42He's going to get cited for a hit and run.
19:44The fact that he hit you and took off was just illegal, right?
19:46Yeah, that's crazy.
19:47All right.
19:48Yeah.
19:48He doesn't have a valid driver's license.
19:50So I'm assuming that's probably why he took off.
19:54Still, you can't do that.
19:55You can't hit somebody.
19:57Her car didn't have any damage, just like the little scratches.
20:02I think she was more mad because of the principal.
20:15Not to sound cliche, but it is nice to help people.
20:18It is like something different every single day.
20:22I have two little girls.
20:25My youngest is very wild, so I can see her being a cop because she's so interested in it.
20:32She always asks me every day, what did you do at work, Mom?
20:35I would encourage her to do whatever she wants, whatever makes her happy.
20:39My significant other is also a cop, so she sees her mom and her dad.
20:55This is the sheriff's department.
20:56What's the emergency?
20:58I'm the manager of the AutoZone.
20:59Some guy just ran out with a big air pump.
21:01It's a big lime green box, so somebody sees him.
21:04He's wearing a baseball cap and a dark gray t-shirt.
21:10Okay.
21:11I got a call in place.
21:11They should be up there, Shirley.
21:15That's a theft.
21:17Somebody stole a compressor.
21:19It's gonna be a Hispanic male wearing a dark gray and light blue shirt with a baseball hat.
21:26He's carrying a green box.
21:42The suspect may have changed his clothes.
21:45We're not too sure.
21:49Aw, looks like we found a backpack.
21:52Oh.
21:53There's a hat.
21:54It's a gray shirt.
21:55It has to be that dude in the white.
21:57They changed.
21:59It has to be one of them.
22:02Hey, bud.
22:02Get me a pair.
22:03Put your hands down, guys.
22:06All right, bud.
22:07So you're being detained, all right?
22:10You got any weapons on you?
22:11Oh, yeah.
22:11There's a knife right there.
22:12Just a knife?
22:13I'm gonna take it off you and give it to you when you're done, all right?
22:15Mm-hmm.
22:16I think I see it perpetually.
22:17Let's go to this one.
22:22Anything in there that belongs to you?
22:24Anything in there?
22:25All right, what about that compressor?
22:28Where's that from?
22:33Oh, he has a warrant.
22:36He has a warrant for shoplifting.
22:37What a surprise.
22:40So two items of clothing were located in the bag.
22:42It was a black hat and a gray shirt, and those are the items that the reporter described
22:46that the suspect was wearing.
22:49So we got the compressor back, and they're taking it back.
22:52And he has warrants, so he's gonna go to jail.
23:00I like to catch thieves.
23:02You have the hardworking family who's paying using their last penny, and then you have these
23:09thieves who just come in and steal, and then prices go up, and I just have a thing.
23:14I don't like thieves.
23:28OK, well, what is your emergency?
23:29This car was coming maybe 100, 120 miles per hour.
23:33It looked like a rocket just went fire.
23:37Oh.
23:38Oh, what is it over there?
23:40Whoa.
23:42OK, so you don't see the vehicle anymore?
23:44It's in the bushes.
24:02we just got a call about a vehicle collision they described a gray older florida sedan going about
24:09120 miles per hour crashed into some bushes so we're gonna head over there
24:15first thing we want to do is make sure that there's no significant injuries with a crash at speeds like
24:19that is this your car yes you feel any injuries or anything just a couple cactuses when i got out
24:34okay what happened so when i had stopped at that stop sign yeah over here i came around like 60
24:42miles per hour and i jumped over that bump right there okay and i had spun this way and then
24:48i
24:48over corrected and i gotcha so how much have you had to drink tonight i had a drink about two
24:56hours
24:56do you remember what it was it was a margarita house mix okay i just want to determine your
25:03whether or not you're safe to be traveling on the roadways man i see your speed coming up here
25:06it looks like you were going pretty quick to blow through that stop sign lose control right there
25:11you look really lucky you don't look like you're injured at all to me so that's great
25:14but it definitely could have been worse man all right i'm gonna walk you through some
25:18field sobriety tests yeah are you all right what's going on
25:29you got a lot going on here i mean if it helps man your lady's here after we get all
25:35done with this
25:35and stuff like that i'll let you talk to her and you guys can work on whatever you guys got
25:38going on
25:39all right all right so i'm just gonna have you stand straight up if you can i'll have you put
25:47your feet together arms down by your side all right i'll have you stare at the tip of this pen
25:52okay you're gonna use your eyes and your eyes only do not move your head okay
26:06yeah i'll 26 and
26:10so you've been pretty calm for this whole thing man all right so we're gonna be pretty calm with
26:14you as well all right okay at this time you are gonna be placed under rest for dui okay
26:19we're gonna put your coast in the front as long as you stay yeah as long as you stay calm
26:23we're gonna try to get this all completed out here so that you can be on your way tonight
26:27any weapons anything on you man any knives bombs grenades hidden somewhere
26:32you always gotta ask all right you're gonna
26:36do you think you should have been driving with the amount of alcohol that you have consumed
26:41on a scale of one to ten with one being completely sober and ten being extremely impaired where do you
26:46think you are maybe five there's another deputy here he's a department qualified phlebotomist
26:55okay i'm gonna speak with him shortly on the next step and this would be uh getting a blood draw
27:00from
27:00you will you consent to the test yes my name's deputy castles all right i'm a qualified phlebotomist
27:09i'm gonna try to get it done and get you on your way okay man i already know it's gonna
27:13come up with
27:14alcohol baby weed okay well that's not that's not for me to determine man definitely got some of the
27:22telltale signs got a little bit of odor of intoxicants an intoxicated person like this individual is going
27:29from calm cool collected to kind of getting really emotional starting to cry a little bit sometimes maybe
27:35it's reality setting in surprised i didn't like the cars because it doesn't worry okay yeah man that's
27:42super lucky coming through there how that thing dips down man he could uh hit one of these uh power
27:46poles or something crazy you're all set man thank you yeah no worries you know miraculously was uninjured
28:05from that collision from the looks of it and the damage to the roadways it looks like
28:10he was going you know over 100 miles an hour it looks like that's the second doi case that he
28:17now has in less than two years so hopefully he kind of has a bit of a wake-up call
28:23from from that crash
28:46and i'm on the road right now and there's this gentleman that almost got in a car accident
28:54he literally almost stopped in the middle of the intersection some vehicles oncoming traffic was
28:59almost hit up i'm gonna get it okay you just took off with the driver's door open you guys can
29:08get
29:08somebody quick
29:10oh he's getting on the freeway you better get on the freeway you can get it quick
29:20we're finding an erratic driver we don't know if he's intoxicated or having some type of medical
29:26episode i'm really scared because he's just going without stopping he's doing a u-turn oh my god
29:32you really have to get somebody out here quick because this could be dangerous
29:37so we're gonna see if we can locate him just to make sure there's not an emergency situation going on
29:45we don't want a collision to occur our reporting party's following behind him i think this will be our
29:53guy right here actually six folks going to be behind the vehicle at i-10 and i'll post 262
30:02just continuing northbound doesn't seem to notice that i'm behind him
30:07the pressure needs breaking now pulling on the shoulder
30:14hey sir hey how's it going deputy carter sheriff's department we're stopping out with you because
30:21you've been driving all over the road you seem kind of confused on where you're going and your
30:25vehicle doesn't have a license plate on it okay is this your car yeah you have a license on you
30:38okay i got you go ahead and step out for me
30:43you have a cane or a walk or anything just off to the side right here
30:50how far from home are you can i see that real quick oh you're about 10 minutes out
30:53where are you where are you going i can't have you walking down the freeway man
31:01no i'm not gonna have you stay with your car right now i'm gonna have you stay right here in
31:03front of
31:03the truck once everything's squared away if you're good to go man we'll cut you loose okay
31:11well deputy's gonna take you home okay
31:14because you can't drive right now all right we can't let you get back on the road you had too
31:19many
31:19close calls all right you almost caused a few accidents so we can't let you drive right now
31:24i got you you can get in touch with your family and when they can help you out you can
31:29come get your
31:29car it's gonna still be right here okay we'll most likely be submitting some uh forms to the dmv
31:37to have his driving privileges reviewed and possibly have him uh retest to make sure that he's actually
31:42able to drive properly he seemed completely oblivious to the multiple collisions that he almost was involved
31:57in working for pima county is it's pretty cool i think my style of policing is is definitely a
32:04reflection of my upbringing out here and seeing the different struggles um i think it's helped me a lot
32:11to develop a lot of long-lasting rapport with the community i definitely don't try to be two different
32:17people you know inside and outside of work outside of work you know i'm i'm spending time with my
32:23family with friends and stuff but you know when you come to work you're still the same person
32:37911 where's your emergency like to report a four-wheeler driving erratically out here on valencia road by
32:43casino del sol i think he's intoxicated it doesn't have any lights and he's almost hit me going against
32:49traffic it's a dark colored atv there was uh just a report of a atv driver causing a bit of
32:56a scene so
32:56we're just gonna be checking to see if we can locate the vehicle
33:02hey can i get your social from you don't give me that lie dude my picture comes up every time
33:06i've been in
33:07county and my parents bring in with you guys what's the next slide you're gonna say was the last time
33:13i
33:13was in trouble like i told you i came out of the desert i wasn't on the road you'll look
33:17and you'll
33:17see my tracks you'll know it he's saying that he came from the desert area that he wasn't driving on
33:22the roadways at all so we're gonna see right now if the reportee that called in that vehicle has any
33:28additional information that can help clear this up for us i got my career trimming on what's going on
33:34here hello hey this is w carter with the sheriff's department we're just calling about that atv you
33:41reported earlier were you able to see the driver at all maybe his late 20s early 30s or something like
33:47that i think he had like a hat on but i wasn't i can't be sure all right sounds good
33:52man i appreciate
33:53it all right it sounds like it was more closer to probably a juvenile now we've got a more clear
33:57description a little bit of education man anytime you cross over a road to get to somewhere right
34:01you're subject to the same laws right right you had to cross me right there where the lights at
34:06sitting at right there that's right that's where i crossed if you're crossing over county roads which
34:10you did to get here right you're subject to the same laws all right that checks out push it across
34:14the street then i'm just i'm letting you know what's up right man we're not here messing with you
34:17i got a real call saying that somebody was driving around you're right here i came straight
34:20from my house to get something to eat came across the road that's fine but somebody calls in
34:23gives us this intersection into the quad all right so now you know that we're not messing with you
34:28okay we don't just pull up and talk to random quad guys all right man all right all the pushback
34:32from
34:32you though is the thing about it is you guys get your day on this thing yeah i never ride
34:36it i don't
34:37think we've ever i don't think we've ever talked no we haven't because you're probably one of the new
34:40sheriffs that just got pulled you no i've been here for years i've been here since 86 bro that's fine
34:45i'm just saying i'm just saying if we're always crossing paths and i've never talked to you that kind of
34:49let you know that i'm not messing with you right okay all right i'll let you go on your way
34:53but
34:54if you're gonna be driving on roads out here and we're gonna be contacting you then yeah get your
34:57stuff sorted we'll leave it at that all right all right yeah
35:05so we sent him on his way i'm sure he was glad about that he wasn't uh too happy to
35:09be making
35:10contact with us in the first place so it ended okay you know i educated him on a few things
35:14uh in regards to
35:15him operating his quad on the roadways and letting him know he's he's subject to the same laws as
35:20everybody else just another night out here
35:42i've been with the pimi county sheriff's department for a little over six years now
35:46i love working midnights you know there's a lot of dangerous people that like to commit crimes at night
35:53and that's the kind of people i like to go search after
36:08i'm one of the police police somebody just walked out with a bunch of stuff okay do you remember what
36:15he was wearing a navy blue shirt with a little white spot we got a report of a shoplifting just
36:23drive around see if we could find the guy
36:28yeah 145 we got eyes on the uh west side of the family dollar in the uh ravine hey sheriff's
36:36partner
36:36brother brother let me talk to you what you doing sleeping you got any weapons on you no all right
36:49well we just had somebody do some thieving next door
36:53no that's fine man it might not be you but we're gonna check it out just because
36:56he was last seen ahead in this direction he went running that way okay
37:06you said he's all in that right now yeah do you know what he was wearing um he was in
37:11i think black
37:16do you mind if i just try you down real quick yeah i was up here i heard him right
37:22i don't know why i'm getting in trouble okay all right you're good man have a seat yeah so i
37:29initially checked that the back of the family dollar working eastbound and then as i'm coming back
37:34he's just laying there with the back against concrete so i'm just gonna trace back and see
37:40if there's something that's back there all right what is this
37:47let me go to the other side of this tree that's a lot of snacks there we go
37:55oh i could see the blue shirt with white spots as described by the clerk and this was laying exactly
38:01where i had seen him common thing is to strip down after you do whatever crime you do right change
38:06your
38:11appearance
38:11let me see your shoes real quick
38:18i'd show you what they do all right i mean not born yesterday man right same shoes same sweatpants the
38:28only thing he did was he took his shirt off and just kind of used it as a bag to
38:32hold all this stuff
38:34the shoes matters because almost 100 of the time when somebody commits a crime they don't have time
38:38to change their shoes nor does anybody really think about bringing in a second pair of shoes to change
38:43into you i don't know why people decide they want to steal i'm not very good at it we usually
38:49end up
39:05catching him hey it's 682 on west will you make me at large please okay thank you being at large
39:11essentially means we can go from uh beats two and three which are our residential rural areas to
39:17beat one which which is our more metro populated area where we border with the city a bit more
39:23there's just a lot more going on in beat one for the most part on most days the vehicle in
39:30front of
39:30us is showing some signs of impairment it's swerving a bit in its lane we're just gonna have to pull
39:36it over
39:44you made a pretty aggressive lane change having a little issue staying in your lane
39:49i'm just tired okay have you had anything to drink tonight ma'am nothing at all so where are you
39:55headed these children got strangled and they asked for a ride all right just give me one second she
40:01seemed like she was honestly making up her story as she was going along i'm not smelling a strong odor
40:06coming from her but uh we'll perform a hgn and see what her eyes look like follow the tip of
40:14my finger
40:14with your eyes all right ma'am have you been drinking at all tonight okay i understand you say you
40:25don't
40:25drink however some of the things i've observed is telling me different so i'm just really exhausted
40:31i take two people all right i promise you don't drink i was at home midnight these children uh
40:41messaged me the kids said do you mind giving us a ride okay should you be taking those and driving
40:47well i just took a tiny amount but should you be taking those and driving i'm just gonna have you
40:54sit back here for now it could be a drug dui or maybe this is a simple mistake either way
41:03she
41:03shouldn't be driving so we we have to address this i've never had to do it i've never been to
41:08jail
41:09you don't have a criminal history you don't seem like this is going to be a ordinary thing for you
41:15so because of that instead of giving me a dui i'm going to request that the mvd
41:21redo your driving test to make sure you are okay to drive you said you have a fiance right
41:25can he come give you a ride perfect you can go in and step out now i feel like she
41:31is potentially
41:32impaired however there are prescription drugs and she isn't abusing them bad as her driving behavior
41:38really was it wasn't necessarily dangerous and on top of charging her for dui you'd also be charging
41:45her with felony endangerment because she has a 15 year old and two other minors in the car and that's
41:51a real hammer for someone that seems like they just made a mistake when taking their meds she won't be
41:58getting an arrest tonight and more importantly we will be getting her off the road safely
42:04you
