00:00There's a surreal new twist in Vrabelgate. Days after NFL reporter Diana Russini resigned
00:05from the New York Times over photographs we published, showing her holding hands with
00:10New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, she was involved in a dramatic rescue of an elderly
00:14man who'd gotten in a scary car accident. But like almost everything in the tale of
00:19Russini and Vrabel, things are not that simple. On April 17th, we got a tip that there had
00:24been a crash two days earlier in Wyckoff, New Jersey, not far from Russini's home.
00:29Russini had been driving with her mother and kids when the accident happened right in front
00:33of them. Then it was Russini to the rescue. The NFL reporter heroically asked a bystander
00:38to hoist her onto the overturned jeep, where she opened the door and helped the driver and
00:43his dog too. Local police confirmed to us that bystanders indeed had helped with the rescue
00:47before cops arrived. But wait, there's more. A second tipster reached out to us, and they
00:53told a strikingly different story. The resident of northern New Jersey said that while Russini
00:58was there to help, it was in fact the tipster's husband, not Russini, who had freed the driver
01:03and his dog by ripping open the canvas roof of the jeep. The tipster added that Russini
01:09had merely held the dog's leash after the poochie had been released from the wreckage.
01:13And she insisted that Russini most certainly had not scaled the car.
01:17This wild story comes after Page Six published exclusive photos of Vrabel and Russini, who were
01:22both married to other people, holding hands and hugging at a resort in Sedona, Arizona. Both denied
01:28any romantic involvement, although the scandal led to Russini resigning from the athletic.
01:33Vrabel also stepped away from the Pats during the NFL draft to focus on his family, as additional
01:38photos from March 2020 surfaced, showing the two canoodling at a bar in New York City. Needless to say,
01:44their whole photo scandal has been a car crash of its own.
