00:03Hey, you're not nervous I'm going to embarrass you in front of your old captain, are you?
00:07Of course not. I don't know why I'm so anxious.
00:09Russ has always been one of my biggest champions.
00:11He's the one that pushed me to go to Officer Kennedy's squad for my first tour.
00:15Well, I'm sure he's not coming all the way to L.A.
00:17so that he could tell you he's disappointed with getting you.
00:19I just wish he would give me some sort of idea what this is about, but that's Russ.
00:23There she is!
00:24Hey, Russ! It's so good to see you!
00:27Okay.
00:28John Nolan.
00:28Colonel Russell Wilkes, please, call me Russ.
00:31It's a pleasure to finally meet the man behind the story.
00:34Yeah, likewise. Sit down.
00:36I really appreciate you being here, John.
00:39No, I didn't give away too much over the phone, but what I'm here to discuss would affect both your
00:43lives.
00:43It seems only fair to include you in the conversation.
00:46The SecDef has tasked me with putting together a working group inside the Pentagon.
00:50Wow.
00:51A team of my own choosing that will spearhead bring me battlefield medicine into the 22nd century.
00:55It's the most consequential assignment in my career.
00:58And you are the first person I'm asking to be a part of this.
01:04I mean, it's an honor just to be nominated.
01:06Totally. Russ is a genius.
01:08He could recruit anyone for this working group.
01:11And the fact that he called me first, I mean, that's pretty great.
01:15Yeah.
01:15A hundred percent.
01:16That's so cool.
01:17I mean, our life is perfect right now.
01:20There's no way we're messing that up.
01:21No way.
01:23Perfect.
01:29Police! Get down!
01:30This is Bailey Noon, L.A.F.D.
01:32I need an RA to Central Station Market.
01:34We have a male GSW victim.
01:36He's been shot in the head, in the back.
01:38Two suspects.
01:39Black hoodies, masks, and pants.
01:41One headed east towards Broadway in pursuit of second suspect.
01:45Move! Move!
01:45James!
01:52Go!
01:54Go!
01:55Tell him!
02:11Go!
02:14why are you texting me when i'm right here letting you sleep that's sweet wait are you looking at
02:19real estate we have to upgrade we need more room a second tub a closet that fits all our clothes
02:27i mean yeah sure that would be nice but we created our family here which i love but now
02:33we're bursting at the seams and mama's ready to crack open that trust fund and get crazy
02:38i'm not sure i like the sound of that tough we have money uh no we have some money but
02:45housing
02:45prices in a layer insane i guess it couldn't hurt to see what's out there i love that you've learned
02:52to roll with me rather than resisting yes you have successfully broken my spirit yay
02:59quickie before the kids might go oh um
03:10too late i like this one i bet you could hang a swing set from that tree right there in
03:16the back
03:16that was my favorite until i saw this it has a pool and a gym and a screening room wait
03:24hold
03:25up you got screening room kind of money depends on which one of us you ask wesley is the king
03:29of
03:30frugality so he would definitely say no but i lived on credit cards until i met him so i'm way
03:35more
03:35comfortable pushing the envelope hey nolan did you tell officer hart that the shooters last night were
03:41furries no i said they were wearing hoodies are you taking the case yeah do you mind just walking
03:48us through it yeah uh bailey and i were coming back from dinner at central station market date night
03:52no her former commanding officer came to offer her a job a pentagon think tank wow you really married
03:59outside of your league i know right so is she gonna take it no uh it would mean relocating to
04:04dc so
04:04it's a non-starter for us i mean it might be a non-starter for you but i guarantee that
04:08your
04:08overachiever of a wife is seriously thinking about it no actually she was laughing it off when we
04:14talked about oh my god she's actually thinking about it seriously okay well no no if that's
04:19something she really wants to do relocating to dc could be cool it's not i spent time there during
04:24my joint ops days it took me about three weeks to unclench every time i came home thank you for
04:30that insight so any clarity on the victim fred wilson 48 cpa married no kids no criminal record making
04:38him an unlikely candidate for a targeted assassination is there anything else about
04:42the shooters that you didn't give heart sorry i did not get a good look at them what about cctv
04:48anything there they were pretty covered up but take a look at this
04:58uh looks like litter's sf that would make him southern front no visible tattoos on the second
05:04shooter huh yeah so why would a member of a white supremacist gang partner up with a black man to
05:12execute a civilian in broad daylight told you he'd spot it you trained him well could be that our
05:17innocent cpa was helping the southern front to launder money or maybe he had a drug problem and
05:23owed them money we're trying to get the me to rush the talk screen but he's dodging our calls oh
05:28say
05:28no more i'll go deliver the ask in person let me collect my boot
05:34hey do you know what this is an iron you know what it's not a machete i am due in
05:40court in two hours
05:41to testify about a man attacking people on a bus with a machete okay something must have got switched
05:45around the evidence locker we'll figure it out no no the case is time not waived if we don't
05:50find it fast that psycho is going to be let free okay have you told the prosecutor no it's wesley
05:55and i am just trying to keep him in blissful ignorance as long as possible help me that's the
06:00case number no i know but it's wrong the case number isn't wrong the item might be wrong but numbers
06:06are just numbers fine um so the point is i have to be at court uh and and i need
06:14that machete like
06:15asap case number oh okay uh we're not gonna find it by using the case number the numbers got
06:20switched well if you don't have the case number then i can't help you oh wesley's gonna kill me
06:24it's uh relax maybe it's just a typo right the first eight numbers are the date the crime was on
06:30january 20th try 2010 2026. try 02-01-2026 wow 20-01-2025
06:48are you sure you use the new data entry procedure we changed it a few months ago of course i
06:53did i keep
06:56but i wasn't the one who logged the entry because you wouldn't approve the overtime i had smitty do
07:01it
07:04what the hell is your problem uh good morning i have bent over backwards to treat you well and
07:10this is how you repay me i don't i'm sorry i don't know what's happening right now like hell you
07:14know
07:14your little innocent act would be a lot more believable if they weren't in your office just
07:18know this if you go through with it i will do everything in my power to absolutely destroy you
07:31hi who are you what are you doing in my office and why has it sent vivian into a rage
07:34spiral rita
07:35sanchez this is bradley worth we work with the democratic party and we want you to run for district
07:40attorney and now it makes sense that's a hard no for me by the way but thanks for stopping by
07:46look
07:46you obviously know that vivian eckhart's running on a post since del monte dropped out of the race
07:49yeah but that was a month ago why come to me now candidly we've been having a hard time finding
07:54someone to take up his mantle so i'm your last choice hardly
08:02look mr evers i wish there was time for us to do our usual dance of seduction and ego stroking
08:08but as
08:08you rightly pointed out we're up against it the deadline to enter this race is in three days and
08:12vivian becoming da is worst case scenario for the people of the city i mean she has the most
08:16regressive record in your office oh i agree but there's zero chance of me beating her i was
08:20temporarily disbarred because of your dealings with elijah stone we know yeah and we are prepared to
08:25embrace that i mean you're a hero who put his life and career on the line to take down a
08:29very dangerous
08:30kingpin voters love a man who's willing to stand up for what's right not to mention you're married to a
08:35cop which automatically makes you a more attractive candidate to anyone worried that progressive
08:39means soft on crime look i don't want vivian to win any more than you do but but nothing a
08:46vivian
08:46victory will hurt a lot of people and right now you're our last hope at stopping her it may be
08:51a
08:51long shot but isn't it worth the risk i thought you didn't have time to stroke my ego
09:00you have to let me see i don't actually on tv the family has to identify the body yeah we
09:06don't do
09:06that anymore that's right ma'am it's no longer policy but trust me it's for the best seeing your
09:12loved one like that it it changes how you remember them forever i don't understand fred was a saint why
09:21would someone want to kill him well that's what we're trying to figure out he's really dead yes ma'am
09:28i'm afraid so and we are so sorry for your loss okay thank you
09:37thanks for the assist grief makes people a little
09:41crazy and i don't like dealing with them when they're normal why you work with the dead i suppose
09:48uh anything jump out at you the preliminary autopsy no a run-of-the-mill gun homicide the bullet to
09:53the
09:53head killed him instantly but the shot to the body was fatal as well any signs of drug use no
09:59but the
09:59the talk screen is underway i'll let harper and lopez know the second it comes in perfect thank you very
10:04much i once had a widower insist on seeing his wife's body back when i was in sugarland ended up
10:10suing
10:10the city for mental anguish did he win no case got dismissed when he was convicted of her murder
10:16what hey please let her go hi hi it's all it's all good she's she's fine i'm fine yeah i
10:26can see that
10:27but two minutes ago you were grieving i'm still grieving it manifests itself in unknowable ways
10:32right but you brought your boyfriend to help you identify your husband's body well i needed emotional
10:39support she's very sensitive yeah well you can emotionally support each other on the way to the
10:44station let's go oh this way this way yes okay put your hands down yes sir wow i know this
10:53looks bad
10:55understatement your husband was murdered and in less than 24 hours you were getting busy with your
11:00side piece down the hall from his body i didn't even want to be there uh i told faith it
11:06would look weird
11:06but she insisted so you were just trying to be a good boyfriend todd is a terrible boyfriend he's a
11:15lot
11:15of fun but anything that requires emotional depth okay what about fred what was he like he was always
11:20super cool anytime that i came by you're saying fred knew about the affair it wasn't an affair it was
11:27an
11:27open marriage the whole thing was fred's idea i wanted a little bit of peace is it possible that todd
11:35wanted you all to himself listen i am twice divorced i am still paying alimony to the first i am
11:43not
11:44trying to put a ring on it there's a reason why todd is divorced todd is a good time like
11:51coney island
11:52and fred on the other hand was deep and soulful and romantic like paris coney island is fun to visit
12:06but you don't move there oh her paris what do you think i think people are crazy but neither of
12:14them
12:14is a physical match for the shooters still doesn't rule out murder for hire um yeah did you put wesley
12:20up to this no idea what you're talking about but if it's pissing you off i'm happy to take credit
12:25if he insists on moving forward i can't guarantee that i'll be able to keep you out of the crossfire
12:32did she just threaten me sure seems like it but why no idea but i'm gonna find out oh husband
12:42you only call me husband when you're mad what did i do you tell me vivian just stopped by
12:47she told you i was running for da wait you're running for da since when no wait it got sprung
12:53on me this morning what does that mean some people came to talk to me about taking over sean's campaign
12:57and you told them no i did initially but but now you're thinking about it i mean i'd at least
13:05like
13:05to discuss it but i am supposed to be my way to court right now only lucy texted to tell
13:10me that our key
13:10piece of evidence is missing so is there any chance that we can just table this until tonight fine but
13:15only
13:15because yelling at you in the bullpen might come across as unprofessional thank you i love you
13:25everything okay are you free for dinner tonight depends can i bring james as long as you tell him
13:29he has to be team lopez on the penalty of death uh we'll be sure to prep him i remember
13:37lucy gave me
13:38the machete and i logged it like i always do okay so that right there is the problem smitty the
13:43system
13:43changed most of the world uses day month year month day year was causing all of these issues for us
13:49with
13:49our international cases which is why we switched you know didn't you read the memo sorry wait i just
13:56heard that out loud of course you didn't important memos are always covered in the roll call
14:02why do i have a panicked ada knocking on my door to ask for my help to find a missing
14:06machete because
14:07smitty wasn't listening when he went over the change and how we filed case numbers
14:11what the day month year thing yeah i didn't go over it my last day as watch commander was crazy
14:17i left
14:17it for you to do i thought you handled it oh it's not my fault it's yours everyone got the
14:22memo it's still
14:22your fault smitty well it's still on him for trusting me i didn't trust you i thought he covered it
14:27and i
14:27just didn't follow up i can't believe i dropped the ball out i don't care whose fault it is i
14:31need
14:31the machete smitty used the old system right try 01 20 20 26. i i can't it's a drop down
14:39menu there's
14:40no 20th month what so you can enter the 20th month but you can't retrieve the 20th month correct no
14:44that's
14:44wrong it shouldn't work that way but that is how it works wesley says the judge is losing his patience
14:51if you can't produce the evidence he's prepared to dismiss the case guys this is bigger than one case
14:56everything smitty log has been misfiled going back two months did the widow shed some light uh not
15:03exactly but her doorbell cam did this is from two days ago the car is registered to a rider frost
15:09known member of the southern front well that tattoo is a match definitely could be our shooter any idea
15:14who the other fella is not yet but his tats are 54 street gang besides the racial element don't sf
15:19and
15:19the 54 compete for the same meth business they did up until a few months ago when the armenians pushed
15:24southern front further into the valley but they are certainly not allies they case the garage but
15:29not the house any idea what they were looking for we've got a last known for ryder we're hoping you
15:34go
15:44ask him wait
15:50control and pursuit of suspect at dream royal lake apartment send backup
16:00go
16:07come on
16:10Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
16:15That's the third floor, Eddie, to the roof!
16:26Stop! I lift your knee!
16:29Come on, Ryder. There's nowhere to go.
16:32Put your hands on your head, down on your knees.
16:59I'm sorry, are these cases from the future?
17:02Apparently, the system didn't know what to do with month 20, and so it just made the math work, and
17:0512 months plus 8 is August 2027.
17:08Cases from 21st become September of next year, and so on.
17:11This is unbelievable. The judge granted a continuance, but we need the machete by noon tomorrow.
17:16Yep, don't worry. We will have it.
17:17I'll stick around. I'll feel responsible.
17:19It's completely on me.
17:20I don't should have clarified.
17:21You are on your way out.
17:22Okay, you guys are both Spartacus, okay? Let's please start opening the boxes.
17:25Are you coming?
17:26No.
17:29Russ, I thought you had a flight to catch.
17:31I do, but I couldn't leave L.A. without making one last appeal.
17:34Well, I guess you better come in then.
17:40Oh, you've really made a nice life for yourself here, noon.
17:43I can see why you'd hesitate before giving it up, but anything I can say to convince you?
17:53Can I ask why? I'm not a doctor or a scientist. I don't have a Ph.D.
17:58Why are you asking me?
18:00Maybe you've been around long enough to know that having a few extra letters after your name doesn't make you
18:04a genius.
18:04I also know that if I bring you a problem, you won't rest until you've looked at it from every
18:08conceivable angle twice before bringing me a solution.
18:12What if I can't find a solution?
18:13Hell, girl, that's why they call it a think tank.
18:16It does me no good to have a bunch of identical people with identical viewpoints looking in identical directions.
18:23Baseball team can't be all pitchers.
18:24You need somebody to play shortstop.
18:26Alright, I'm gonna miss my flight if I don't get going.
18:28So, you know, take a few days to think about it.
18:31Talk it over with your man and call me.
18:34I will.
18:37You know, Noon, if you don't want the job because it's not the right fit or the right time, that's
18:42fine, I get it.
18:43But deciding that you're not good enough before somebody else can, that's the coward's way.
18:50I know you're not a coward.
18:52No, sir, I'm not.
18:58Giddy up.
19:06Yeah.
19:07Alright.
19:09Okay, thanks for the update.
19:11Suspect in the Central Station Market shooting fell to his death.
19:14That's awful.
19:15Yeah, a guy thought he was an action hero trying to leap between two buildings.
19:18Any leads on the second shooter?
19:19No, but the brass has been blown up my phone.
19:21If a guy falls to his death in a police pursuit, everyone's got questions.
19:26Captain.
19:26Always a pleasure.
19:29I do not miss that.
19:31I don't think I've seen him sleep more than four consecutive hours since he took this job.
19:34I know being sidelined for the President's visit shook him up.
19:38And even though it was more of a CYA decision by the brass and an indictment on his performance,
19:44the optics weren't great for him.
19:45Do you think he should be worried?
19:46I think that watch commander is a thinkless job.
19:49You're not in the field, but you're responsible for every knucklehead that is.
19:53Patrol officers want resources you can't give them.
19:55The brass expects results that you realistically can't produce.
19:59And when there's bad press and they're looking for a head to roll.
20:02Right, I didn't think of it that way.
20:04Because I made it look easy.
20:07You'll get the hang of it.
20:11The machete!
20:13Yes!
20:14I gotta call Wesley.
20:15I'll wait a minute on that.
20:19I got a crack in my tooth and it's wiggling.
20:24Okay, that sounds horrible.
20:24It wasn't pretty.
20:26That's for sure.
20:27Nolan and I barely had time to twist before it was all over.
20:30Oh, so where does that leave the case?
20:32Still trying to ID the second shooter.
20:35Hmm.
20:37Hey, did you know the Armenians pushed the Southern Front's meth trade deeper into the...
20:42Deeper into the valley?
20:43Yep.
20:43Happened a few months ago.
20:44That's why I read every gang report the department puts out and I haven't seen anything about that.
20:48Yeah, see, those reports only get you so far.
20:50I mean, the best information is usually through word of mouth.
20:54Which is great for me because I know people from all over the city.
20:57Well, how could I compete with that when I just got here?
21:00It takes time to cultivate that kind of trust.
21:02True, but I mean, you'd be shocked by what some of these low-level game makers put on social media.
21:08The Ellie Gang subreddit is a great resource.
21:10Look, I gotta stay up anyway.
21:12I've got a 2 a.m. Zoom date with Raj.
21:14Why don't I show you some of my favorite accounts to follow?
21:17Who knows? You might see something on Ryder.
21:20Well, all right. Let's go, coach. I'm ready.
21:24Hey, good to see ya.
21:26You too.
21:26How you doing?
21:27Thought we might need this.
21:28Ooh. Very thoughtful.
21:31Hi.
21:31What do you guys think? Should we crack it now or save it for dinner?
21:33My vote is now.
21:34Okay.
21:35And don't be stingy with the pores.
21:39Everyone clear on the plan?
21:40Oh, yes, yes. James Snow's agreed with everything you say and keep the starry-eyed reformer talk on our minimum.
21:47Perfect.
21:48Operation Kill a Dream is a go.
21:49Mm-hmm.
21:51He has a point.
21:52We complain all the time about undocumented witnesses being too scared to testify.
21:57Instituting a policy that would protect them from deportation, that would be a game-changer.
22:02I thought it was supposed to be Team Lopez.
22:04I know, but it's a good idea. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but I think we're getting
22:09away from the larger point, which is we'd be opening our lives up to public scrutiny, which would be hard
22:15enough for you and me. And I worry what it'll do to the kids.
22:20So do I. But I also want them to grow up knowing that their father is willing to fight for
22:26the rights of everybody, even when it's difficult.
22:28Hey, ma'am.
22:28What?
22:29What?
22:31You started it.
22:32Think of what I'd be in the position to influence as the DA. I could end cash bail, expand victim
22:39services, emphasize counseling.
22:40Institutional change is always hard.
22:42Right, but does that mean that I shouldn't try?
22:45What about the house?
22:47Yeah, well, we would probably have to wait on that. I mean, optics would...
22:50And you'd be fine letting public perception dictate how we live our lives?
22:54In service of real reform?
22:58Maybe.
22:59Real change requires sacrifice.
23:02But I would not do it at the expense of our family. I would need to know that you were
23:05on board.
23:06100%.
23:10Hello.
23:11Whoa.
23:13Something smells good.
23:14Because I cooked.
23:17More than cooked.
23:18Candles?
23:19Should I be worried?
23:20No, not at all.
23:21I just know you had a really hard day and I wanted to do something nice for you.
23:25Oh.
23:26Yeah.
23:27Uh-huh.
23:27And, uh, what do you really want in exchange for this totally no-strings-attached feast?
23:35A conversation.
23:37About DC.
23:38I didn't know we needed to have one.
23:40I know, and that is my fault.
23:42But, all day, I have not been able to get this idea out of my head.
23:47And Russ stopped by on the way to the airport and gave me his final appeal and it made me
23:53question why I was so quick to shut it down.
23:57Well-
23:57And before you tell me no, or give me 100 reasons why it won't work, all I ask is that
24:02you spend some time to explore the idea.
24:06And by that you mean-
24:07See what transferring to DC police would look like.
24:10Make some calls, ask some questions, kick the tires.
24:14And what if we come to different conclusions?
24:17We abort the mission.
24:19Either we're both in or we're both out.
24:21We need both keys to launch the torpedoes.
24:23Yes.
24:25What do you think?
24:29I think I want you to be happy and if this is something you want, then I will do everything
24:36I can from my end to see if it's feasible.
24:41We're in this together.
24:48Is it just me or these numbers starting to blend together?
24:52It is not just you.
24:53Hey, everything okay with the press?
24:55Ryder's death was ruled an accident, but there's always a chance they could reopen the case.
25:00Or blame me for this whole evidence-logging mess.
25:03Hey, just take the win.
25:05You're right.
25:07Look, I swear, if I lose Watch Commander because of Smitty-
25:10That's not gonna happen.
25:12I have been manifesting that we will find this machete all day.
25:16Manifesting?
25:16Mm-hmm.
25:17God, I got you away from waters just in time.
25:19Shut up.
25:22You gotta be kidding me.
25:24Hmm?
25:27Oh my God.
25:31This is it! This is it!
25:32Thank God.
25:33Alright, let's go home.
25:37Wait, where are you?
25:39A yurt in Finland.
25:41The Northern Lights have been amazing the last few nights.
25:44Jealous.
25:45I know, I wish you were here to see them with me.
25:46Me too.
25:47I miss you.
25:49Hey Selena, I might have found something.
25:51So Ryder...
25:51Is that Miles? Hey Miles.
25:52Hey man, how's the Great White North?
25:54He saw the Aurora.
25:55Oh, cool.
25:56Who's Ryder?
25:57A suspect and a murderer.
25:58Well, that sounds important. Do you need to go?
25:59No.
26:00Just give me one second.
26:02What's up?
26:03Okay, so I was looking through Ryder's jewelry file.
26:06Between the ages of 9 to 14, he lived in four different foster homes.
26:09One was located in the 54th Street territory.
26:12Foster parents were Mabel and Raphael Sinclair.
26:14And Raphael died a few years ago of heart attack.
26:16But look at what I found on Mabel.
26:23Uh, babe, I'm sorry, I gotta go.
26:25No worries.
26:26Uh, have fun solving your murder.
26:28We will.
26:32This is Mabel Sinclair.
26:34Most of the kids in the neighborhood just call her mom.
26:36Since they know whatever they need, food, a place to stay, clean clothes, Mabel will hook them up.
26:41Well, last week, Mabel was the victim of a hit and run while crossing her street.
26:44Witnesses saw a red sedan speeding away from the scene, but no arrests have been made.
26:49Anyone care to guess what kind of car Fred Wilson drove?
26:51A red camera.
26:52So you think Fred hit Mabel?
26:54Oh, more than that.
26:56Selena ran his vent and found the body shop doing the repairs on his car.
26:59The bumper tested positive for blood.
27:02French sticks are running the sample.
27:03What's Ryder's connection to this woman?
27:05Oh, Mabel was his foster mother.
27:10That's the second shooter.
27:11That is Kingston Holmes, 22, proud member of the 5-4 and former foster brother to Ryder Frost.
27:17So they murdered Fred Wilson as revenge for killing Mabel.
27:21Well, Mabel wasn't dead.
27:26All I remember is going out to bring my trash cans in and then waking up here and they told
27:34me it was a hit and run.
27:36Unfortunately, the man suspected of hitting you with his car was murdered.
27:39We have reason to believe your former foster sons, Ryder Frost and Kingston Holmes, want a revenge for what happened
27:46to you.
27:47It was painful enough losing Ryder and Kingston to the streets.
27:52I don't think I can take knowing that they killed a man because of me.
27:58We're very sorry, but I'm afraid that's not all.
28:01Ryder died yesterday trying to jump between rooftops.
28:05They were just hurt little boys underneath it all, you know?
28:09When Ryder first came to us, he was so shut down, he barely said two words to me that first
28:20month.
28:20But Kingston, he always had this way about him, this lightness, even after all he'd been through.
28:31But then they started to do everything together and bit by bit, I got to see Ryder for the sweet,
28:45sensitive boy he was.
28:48What happened?
28:49Ryder's mom came back into the picture with her skinhead boyfriend.
28:54And once he was gone, all of Kingston's light went with him.
29:00He started to act out, getting in trouble.
29:07And he was finally put away on some trumped up vandalism charge.
29:14And then he joined the gang in prison.
29:20And suddenly the two boys I saw become brothers were turned into mortal enemies by the streets.
29:32I'm sorry for how much pain this has caused you, but we'd like to bring Kingston in without any more
29:37bloodshed.
29:38Do you have any way of contacting him?
29:45What do you want me to say?
29:48Hey, the judge signed off on the wiretop. We should be good to go in a few.
29:51Great. What you were saying yesterday about DC and needing to unclench, it can't be that bad, right?
30:00All right, maybe I've just, I've been spoiled by L.A.
30:03I'm sure the city has a lot of great things about it.
30:06But from what I saw, being a cop there just means a lot of crowd control around government offices,
30:12usually in crappy weather, snowstorms in the winter, swamp-like humidity in the summer.
30:18You get two weeks of cherry blossoms a year and that's about it.
30:22Huh. Also, speaking as someone who thought transferring to another department would be easy,
30:28be prepared to relearn everything you thought you knew.
30:32Yeah. All right, we gotta go.
30:46Mama?
30:47It's me, baby.
30:48Oh, thank God. I tried to visit you in the ICU, but they said blood family only.
30:53They made it sound like you were dying.
30:54Well, I am a little banged up, but I'll be all right.
30:58I wish I could come see you.
30:59Well, me too. You heard about Ryder?
31:05Uh, you know, me and Ryder don't really mess with each other anymore.
31:10He's dead, baby. Killed. Running away from what you boys did.
31:17I don't know what you're talking about.
31:19Kingston, please. You never were a good liar.
31:26You need to turn yourself in.
31:29I can't. You know what happened the last time I went inside?
31:31I had to join the 5-4 just to make it out alive.
31:34What other choice do you have?
31:36Just don't worry about me, Mama, okay? Just don't worry. I got a way out.
31:40Into Mexico where I can disappear.
31:42Mexico? What the heck do you know about Mexico?
31:45You know, Kingston, this is Detective Nyla Harper of the LAPD.
31:49Are you working with the cops?
31:50She is trying to save your life. Listen to me. If you run, things will end badly for you.
31:56But if you turn yourself in, we can try and help you.
32:02Please. He's scared. Don't hurt him.
32:07He's not a kid anymore, Miss Sinclair. He killed a man in cold blood.
32:10So now we have to go get him.
32:32Let's go.
32:33Yo! What's up, Kay?
32:36They got you working the door already, huh?
32:38Damn. A little tray on the come up.
32:42That's what I feel for life.
32:56Yo, P-Mac.
33:00Can we talk?
33:00For sure! Come here.
33:04You good?
33:08Talk to me.
33:12Uh...
33:12I-I gotta...
33:13I gotta get out of town.
33:15You sure you got that hookup with the cartel tunnels into Mexico?
33:19For sure.
33:20But why?
33:21What happened?
33:22Unless you know the better. Just trust me on that.
33:25When you say trust me, I trust you, okay?
33:27Make a few phone calls.
33:29Look, relax.
33:30Have a drink.
33:31You know we got you.
33:34You know we got you.
33:51Yo. What?
33:53I truly didn't believe you'd be stupid enough to bring your dumb ass back around here.
33:58After all the disrespect shown us.
34:02Yeah, you hidden civilians.
34:04You working with Nazis.
34:06Trace on Kingston's phone landed at 4700 Hilldale.
34:09Copy that.
34:13Pull over up here.
34:17But the address is on the next block.
34:19Yeah, you recognize that tag?
34:2254th Street.
34:24The roll-up hop, they could have spotters anywhere.
34:27Exactly.
34:28Let's go.
34:35Yo, youngin.
34:37It's your big moment, man.
34:39This the moment you prove how much you love the streets by taking care of a traitor-ass bitch that's
34:43disrespecting her.
34:44This the moment you prove to me you a good soldier.
34:47And you follow orders.
34:49Alright, and in return, the streets gonna love you back.
34:52And wherever you go, the five foe follow.
34:57For life.
34:58Now you take care of this bitch.
35:19We ain't got all day.
35:26Swat's ten minutes out.
35:27You got eyes on Kingston?
35:28Yeah.
35:29We're looking at a potential murder in progress.
35:31We can't wait.
35:36Now smoke this fool.
35:41Police!
35:42Go, go, go!
35:44Hey!
35:46Police!
35:47Drop your weapons!
35:55Show me your hands if you're up there!
36:01Go!
36:04Martin!
36:07Go!
36:08Go, go!
36:11Cover us.
36:12Go.
36:20Stay down, stay down!
36:34Wait!
36:56Wait, wait, wait, wait, please, please, please, please, please, please, you can just say that you didn't see me, you
37:04can say that you didn't see me, you can say that you didn't see me, Trey, please, please.
37:08Get out of your stomach.
37:10Go.
37:14Drop the gun. Hit it with you here.
37:36The kids, process.
37:37Ah, thank you for that.
37:39Um, look, I realize this was a bit of a tough one. You all right?
37:43I'll be all right.
37:45I know I shouldn't feel sympathy, but he's just a boy.
37:50Look, no one is saying you can't feel sympathy, but at the end of the day, he did make the
37:54choice to pull that trigger.
37:58Why don't you go home? I'll take care of the paperwork.
38:00Yes, sir. Thank you.
38:02You bet.
38:05Uh...
38:08It amazes me how one man can wreak such havoc on the entire LAPD.
38:14Smitty is a force of nature.
38:16Uh, got a minute?
38:17Yeah, Sean, what's up?
38:18Well, Bailey has been offered a pretty impressive job in D.C., a Pentagon think tank.
38:25And I was just wondering what a transfer to the DCPD would be like.
38:30Yeah, I can get you in touch with a few people.
38:33But you do know you would have to start at the very bottom again, including redoing the academy.
38:39I've done it before.
38:40You were also five years younger.
38:42Yes.
38:43You would get a pretty hefty signing bonus.
38:46That's a perk.
38:47But your annual salary would be much less than you make in L.A., plus the cost of living in
38:52D.C. is just as expensive.
38:53So in the long run, your bonus really won't make a difference.
38:57Especially if Bailey's only making the government salary.
39:00Right.
39:01I'm sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for.
39:03No, no, that's, um, I was just looking for the truth.
39:09Yeah, well, good luck.
39:17Hey, the L.A.P.D. would be sad to see you go.
39:21Thank you, sir.
39:29Guess what?
39:30What?
39:31We won.
39:32That's great.
39:33Did the judge give you any grief about the evidence?
39:35I think he was too confused by the explanation to challenge it.
39:40Take the win.
39:40Mm-hmm.
39:42I prepared a ten-minute lecture for tomorrow's roll call to make sure no one can ever again use ignorance
39:47as an excuse when mislabeling case numbers.
39:49You know, you're a really good watch commander.
39:52I'm figuring it out.
39:53No, listen, no matter what kind of craziness is going on at the station, you're always the center of comm.
39:59And the rest of us need that. I need that.
40:03Mm-hmm.
40:03Tell you what, list of things we can't trust Smitty with is getting longer.
40:07Do you think he's doing it on purpose?
40:09Weaponizing competence?
40:10Yeah.
40:11I don't think he's that strategic.
40:19Hey.
40:20Sorry I missed dinner.
40:24And bedtime.
40:27You should run for DA.
40:30Are you sure?
40:32Because if you're not in 100%...
40:34I'm in.
40:35The more I thought about it, the more I realized this was exactly why you joined the DA's office in
40:40the first place.
40:41Hmm.
40:42And I'm proud you want to set that example for our children.
40:45Especially because every day I see firsthand the people our system has failed.
40:50And inevitably the ones who suffer the most are other kids.
40:56You sure you're okay waiting on a new house?
40:58No.
40:59But like you said, real change requires sacrifice.
41:05And I love this house.
41:09We brought home two babies here.
41:13We also made two babies here.
41:16So we did.
41:18Mm-hmm.
41:22No food to entice me with, I see.
41:24No, but I have wine.
41:27No.
41:30Listen, I don't want to beat around the bush.
41:32I did my due diligence, and I am sorry, honey.
41:36I don't think I can do DC.
41:38It would mean starting all over again as a rookie.
41:43Only this time, instead of being 45, I'd be 50.
41:47Oh.
41:51What if...
41:54I'm not ready to say no.
41:57Well, you did say we both had to be in, or you would walk away.
42:02I know.
42:02And I meant it when I said it.
42:07But now...
42:08You still want it.
42:13So where does that leave us?
42:27I'm not ready to say it.
42:30There's no way to't find your movie.
42:31I'm not ready to say it.
42:36You're ok.
42:51You're good.
42:54You're like, you're fine.
42:57You
