00:00Sorry, I'm chewing gum.
00:01Welcome to the after show, everybody.
00:05So movie theater attendance is down.
00:09Yes.
00:09And they came up with a great way to make more money.
00:14Get people back?
00:15Well, not necessarily to get people back to make more money.
00:18Okay.
00:19Some movie theaters are charging $50 a ticket.
00:27$50 per person.
00:30And they sold out.
00:31It's the Dune 3 movie that's coming out later this year.
00:34What comes with it?
00:36It can't just be a seat.
00:38I don't even think it's like one of those souvenir popcorn buckets.
00:41You have to pay for those, don't you?
00:44Well, apparently it's a 70 millimeter IMAX theater that's being sold.
00:48And they sold out in minutes.
00:50The $50 ticket sold out in minutes.
00:53I'm mad.
00:55I wouldn't do that.
00:56But I'm mad at myself for considering.
00:59So Marvel Cinematic Universe, they're going to release the Doomsday movie in December.
01:05And they said, hey, so because if you haven't really been paying attention, like they're all over the place with
01:13their movies.
01:13Because Jonathan Majors got how he got accused of domestic violence or whatever.
01:19So they fired him.
01:20And he was supposed to be the big bad guy for their next phase of movies.
01:25But when that happened, they fired him.
01:27And they're like, shit, what are we going to do?
01:29Oh, I got it.
01:30We'll bring back Robert Downey Jr.
01:32Who played Iron Man in all the movies in the beginning.
01:35We'll bring him back as a different character.
01:37Because everyone loves Robert Downey Jr.
01:39But we'll bring him back as a bad guy.
01:41Dr. Doom.
01:42Who's an awesome bad guy.
01:44So now, but they're like, how are we going to set this up?
01:48How are we going to set up this Doomsday stuff?
01:50So did you hear about this, Leroy, what they're going to do?
01:51No.
01:52They're going to re-release Avengers Endgame in September.
01:56But not just any re-release.
01:58They're like, hey, listen, we added a few scenes into this movie that's going to set up the whole Doomsday
02:06stuff.
02:07Ooh, I think that's smart.
02:08I know.
02:09But I don't, like, at the same time, I'm like, yo, I don't want to go see that movie.
02:12I can see that movie right now.
02:14Yep.
02:14Like, I'm going to pay to see, like, probably five minutes at most of scenes.
02:20Yes, if you wouldn't pay to see, like.
02:23I'm not paying to see a whole movie.
02:24Paying to see literally maybe five minutes, maybe two minutes.
02:27I get that.
02:28But I equate it to when they do re-releases of, say, older movies.
02:32Like when Prince, they did the Prince Purple Rain re-release.
02:35I don't pay for those.
02:35I paid money to go and see Purple Rain in the theater again.
02:39It's a nostalgia thing, I think, for some people.
02:42But in a situation like that, I feel like their people would do that.
02:46They want to see the movie again on the big screen, and you're getting a bonus by getting
02:49whatever extra scenes they're getting.
02:51It is if it's a reasonable price.
02:54Like, if you say, hey, $50 to see Avengers again with an alternate ending, I'm not doing
03:00that.
03:01I would pay $50 if we were able to watch Avengers again, end game, alternate ending, and then
03:08we get a break, and then we watch the new one.
03:11That's good.
03:12Then I might do that.
03:14That's good.
03:14But it can't be the norm.
03:16I need snacks.
03:17Can they include popcorn in this?
03:19Yeah.
03:19No, we need more than we need popcorn.
03:21We need a drink and a candy.
03:23I think you need all three.
03:24If they added that, that makes sense.
03:27Makes sense.
03:27Some pretzel bites, maybe?
03:28No, seriously.
03:29It doesn't have to be a ton, but $50 for just the movie?
03:35No.
03:35No.
03:36Just the movie?
03:36That's a lot for just one movie.
03:38Throw something in that bitch.
03:39People are doing it.
03:39They sold that Dune 3 movie out in minutes with the $50 ticket.
03:44You know why I think with the Dune movie it worked is because Dune in general isn't targeting
03:49families.
03:50So, if I'm going, I love going to the movies with my family.
03:54Yeah.
03:55You're talking about six tickets, $300 to go to the movies?
03:59I'm not doing that.
04:00Most Dune fans, if you agree, it's going to be either them with one other person, maybe
04:06a crew, and everyone's going to probably be able to buy their own ticket.
04:10But if you've got young kids and a full family you want to go and enjoy together, $300?
04:14Yeah.
04:15It's like, yeah, you can do that, I guess, with the hardcore nerds who like to,
04:20that they need to see it right away and stuff.
04:23Well, the average ticket for a movie, just a regular movie, is $18 now, which I think
04:28is okay.
04:29And then if you want to go to like Romero, I know you like the snobby, stuck-up theaters,
04:33which I actually like too, the Superlux theaters here locally.
04:36You're paying probably $5 more, which I think is still okay.
04:40That's fine, because you get an awesome seat.
04:43You could hit a little button and they come to you and go, what would you like?
04:46Yeah.
04:47$30 is the most I'm going.
04:49$30 is the most I'm going.
04:52But you wouldn't see just any movie.
04:54Like, I feel like they're doing it, they're jacking up the prices for only the premium
04:58movies, like the big blockbusters, the anticipated blockbusters.
05:01Yeah, you can't do it for everything.
05:02You wouldn't do it for everything.
05:04Yeah.
05:04No.
05:05You definitely can't do it for everything.
05:06Oh, man, it's got to be a good seat.
05:08Like, you know, I need my feet up.
05:12Right.
05:13Yeah.
05:13I need to be chilling.
05:14So wait, so they're quitting on trying to get people to get out off their couch and
05:20come to them.
05:21Yeah, they're quitting on trying to get more people.
05:22They're just like, you know what?
05:23We're just going to get the most out of the people who, I mean, honestly, that's not a
05:28good sign that that thing sold out right away.
05:31That's not a good, because now they're going to do it more.
05:33Right, because I guess what they're not, their thought process is, people aren't going to
05:38the movies like they used to, and there's really not much more that we can do to entice
05:42them.
05:42So let's get out of people that are still going everything we can.
05:47Right.
05:47But are they going to keep going if you keep doing that?
05:51You know what I mean?
05:52That's what they're going to do.
05:53They're going to keep, they'll keep pushing it.
05:56They'll do it now for like the blockbusters, like Dune.
05:59They'll probably do it for freaking Doomsday or whatever.
06:02Then eventually they're going to go, I mean, everybody would love to come see Michael Jackson,
06:09you know, like, and then they'll do it for like a movie like that.
06:12And then they'll go, everybody's excited for Devil Wears Prada too.
06:15And then they're going to attempt it for something like that.
06:17And then they're just going to be like, you know what?
06:19Channing Tatum has a lot of fans.
06:21Let's do it for his next movie.
06:22They'll try it until people finally go, I ain't going to go see that shit for $50.
06:26You're not going to get away with it for like a random everyday movie that, you know,
06:30like when I can't even think of a good example of one right now, but you won't get away with
06:35that.
06:35But see, even though there's excitement around the Devil Wears Prada,
06:38like I would not pay $50 to go see the Devil Wears Prada.
06:42I just wouldn't.
06:44Especially now when, let's be honest, there's, well, I don't even want to say it out loud,
06:49but there's all kinds of bootleg programs where you can see movies for free
06:54in the privacy of your own home when they come out in theaters.
06:58Hell yeah.
06:59Like a couple of my friends were showing me some of the things they had the other day.
07:02I was like, I'm like, how are you seeing the Michael movie already?
07:05They have these like bootleg things.
07:07It's kind of like from back in the day they used to have them, but they still got them.
07:10That and how fast do movies come from the theaters and start streaming?
07:14It's usually pretty quick.
07:16So it's like, I don't know how much you're going to be able to get away with the $50 tickets.
07:21I'm noticing a trend.
07:22Are you noticing the trend?
07:24Traditional media is just being lazy and doesn't want to reinvent themselves.
07:29Oh no, traditional media is like, they don't know what the hell's going on.
07:31I mean, like maybe come up with more original movies like that Spielberg one that's coming out.
07:37Did you see it?
07:37Oh yes.
07:38The alien one.
07:39Yeah, I can't wait.
07:40I saw the trailer.
07:42I can't remember, but I saw that trailer.
07:45I saw, yeah, I'm there.
07:47Come up with some original movies.
07:49Maybe there's a different approach to the in-movie experience.
07:55I don't know what that is, but sit down.
07:57You're getting paid big bucks to find answers to the questions and the problems within the industry.
08:05Charging more is just, that's lazy.
08:06You know what?
08:07What if you did, you know how people are into binging, right?
08:11What if you did like, let's say there's a series of like 12 episodes of something and you bought like
08:21a set of binge, like you would go and watch like four episodes and then maybe you'd buy four like
08:28another time.
08:28I don't know.
08:29I'm just thinking, just thinking out loud.
08:31Well, you know, I might do, I might do that.
08:34They should try.
08:35Okay.
08:35So for example, like Invincible, the boys, those shows on Amazon, right?
08:40They'll, they'll, they'll drop.
08:43Let's say if it's like an eight episode or 10 episode season, what they'll do is they'll be like, okay,
08:46we're going to give you like for the first week, we'll give you two or maybe three episodes.
08:50Right.
08:50And then after that, once a week, there probably are people who were like, I don't want to wait.
08:54I'll pay a certain amount of pricing for the rest.
08:58Yeah.
08:59For the rest of the.
08:59There's something there.
09:00Yeah.
09:00Like I'm thinking in turn, you're thinking the boys.
09:02I'm thinking K-dramas.
09:03You know what I mean?
09:05Another thing.
09:06Now they are, I don't know why we're giving these ideas out loud, but okay.
09:10So it would work for a movie like Dune.
09:12It would work for like a cinematic universe, Marvel.
09:17It would work for an avatar type movie.
09:20So at Disney, right?
09:21The avatar ride, it's like you're riding on one of the bird things and you're seeing everything
09:26from that point of view.
09:27It's one of the most just like beautiful rides ever.
09:30Oh, I love it.
09:32So do, you know, whatever the movie is and you charge extra, but in that charging extra,
09:40I don't know.
09:41You have a little device or glasses where you could experience certain scenes from the point
09:47of view of a specific character.
09:51Yes.
09:51Like you would pick which one.
09:53Yes.
09:53So like for the avatar movie, be like the dude hops on the bird.
09:57Right.
09:57And in the movie, they're showing the guy flying with the bird and stuff.
10:00But you're like, you hit a little button and like now you're on the bird and you're feeling
10:03it the way he is and stuff, you know?
10:06And then me who would want to stay on the ground, I would pick somebody.
10:09Yeah.
10:09Yeah.
10:09So now everyone's getting a, we're all seeing the same movie at the same time, but we're
10:14seeing it in different ways.
10:15And you, it might even, they might even get those hardcore people who are like, oh, you
10:18know what?
10:19Last time I saw the doomsday movie, I was fighting or I was like watching as Thor while he was
10:25fighting in space.
10:26This time I want to see it as, um, fucking one of the fantastic four or some bullshit,
10:31you know?
10:32I'm thinking about maybe if they, we might need bigger screens and this might take a while,
10:39but can you imagine going to the movies and it being like almost surrounding you, not
10:44behind you, but at least to the size.
10:48Like the, the, the, the, the planetarium and something like that, but this is fear.
10:54Yes.
10:55Yes.
10:56Disney is doing that now instead of green screen.
11:00Yep.
11:00They have like a, almost like a dome, you know what I'm talking about?
11:02Right.
11:03Yep.
11:03And you feel like you're in the scene filming as opposed to like, Hey, pretend that, I
11:09don't know, pretend that you're in a freaking volcano.
11:11You're like, oh shit.
11:13Right.
11:13I'm in a volcano.
11:14I see the lava coming down on me.
11:15So do it like that with the, the, the, the, the person watching the movie.
11:20Now you charge $50 for that.
11:22And I'll be like, you know what?
11:23Yeah.
11:24Yeah.
11:24Cause then again, the movie has to be good and you can't just make it so that it's visually
11:30going to keep you locked in.
11:32But cause we'll, we'll get tired of that.
11:34We'll be like, all right, we get it visually.
11:35It's beautiful.
11:35But if the story suck, then it's like, what's the point?
11:38Well, have you all ever gone to the movies to see any concerts?
11:43No, I've never done that.
11:45See, I've done that.
11:46Uh, yes.
11:47Whitney Houston.
11:50It would, no, not a, not the movie.
11:52A concert movie?
11:53You mean like an actual?
11:54Like an actual concert.
11:56Oh.
11:57Like the weekend has a show.
11:58They either streamed it or delayed.
12:00Not a live stream, but the Whitney thing, it was a concert.
12:03It was, it wasn't a movie.
12:04It was a, it was a video of her concert.
12:06But I'm thinking concerts like, cause I've gone and, and those costs like 30 bucks.
12:12But if you threw in some extra stuff, like I might pay $50 if you know.
12:18And they encourage people to participate like they're at a concert.
12:22Yeah.
12:23Okay.
12:23Something.
12:24I don't know.
12:25No, I just think that there's, there's other opportunities there for movie theaters.
12:30And I don't know if they're necessarily taking advantage of it.
12:34You could do it.
12:35And then it could be like, yeah, something like that.
12:38Then it could be like the Guardians of the Galaxy ride where when people were like, oh,
12:41I saw the movie and they're like, oh, but what version did you get?
12:44You know?
12:45And then because of that, it would probably cause people to go multiple times to see different
12:50versions.
12:51Exactly.
12:51Oh, you saw it that way.
12:52I didn't see it that way.
12:53That sounds interesting.
12:54I'm going to go back and do the same thing.
12:56Yeah.
12:56But again, if it's like a whole family, I don't think everybody's paying $300 every time
13:02you go.
13:03Don't forget to like and subscribe.
13:04And if you have any good ideas, comment below.
